It's Monday, Taco Day, Vodka Day and World Animal Day. (And don't forget that Donatella will be by later!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in By Kilian Sacred Wood.
Reminder: 10/8 will be Thinking of You Friday...wear a perfume that reminds you of someone else (a friend? a family member? another NST reader? a celebrity? anyone, really). Adapted from a suggestion by chocolatemarzipan.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Got a tea gift this morning , a friend sent me two samples of August uncommon and a note to stay cozy in fall. Sipping ? and made eggs with toast this morning. Watching the rain ☔️
SOTD Shiesido Zen
Ohhh, You smell lovely! We’re house twins today, wearing Murasaki.
A gift of tea is always great.
The vintage or the new one?
the new one
The sun has finally appeared, and I’m smelling great in Prada Infusion d’oeillet!
I’m staring down a mountain of grading this week, but it comes with the territory. Have a great week, everyone.
Enjoy the sun!? Please send a little my way.?
Good luck with that mountain Irisjasmine!
I’m in Dame Earth Mother. My little decant has really suffered from evaporation and the last little bit came out in streams of oil and not a mist. This is a must try for patchouli lovers, it’s really well done imo and perfect for the overcast day we are having.
Today is my dad’s birthday, 77 years young. Three days from today, it will be my son’s birthday, my dad’s name is his middle name.☺️ I think it would have been really cool if they had had the same birthday, but alas, babies come when they want to. I’m baking brownies to send him since I can’t be there to bake his favorite chocolate cake. We’ll see how they survive the 1000 mile trip.??
happy birthdays all around!
My sister mailed lemon poppy seed cake to her son from Florida to Osaka every year and it made it – so I think the brownies will taste delicious even if a bit smushed.
Thanks apsara! Yeah, I figure if they end up a crumbly mess, he can just eat them over ice cream.
Happy birthday all around.
How is your skin doing? I am thinking of upgrading my retinol but wanted to see how your new one is doing? I forgot which brand you are using.
I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ve had very good results with PC products. There is a 0.3% retinol to get you started and then you can step up to the 1%. I’ve been using these products (as well as many others in the line) and have had excellent results.
Here is the 0.3%:
https://www.paulaschoice.com/clinical-0.3pct-retinol-and-2pct-bakuchiol-treatment/81B-8015.html
Hers is the 1%:
https://www.paulaschoice.com/clinical-1pct-retinol-treatment/801-8010.html
They have sample sizes as well, which are great for travel, but you really need to use the product on a regular basis to see results.
I just use medical grade tretinoin 0,5%, it’s cheap as chips and works great on me.
Oh, I’m sure that would work fine for me, too. But I like all the additional “anti-aging” ( HATE that term!) benefits in Paulas Choice!
Thanks ltsg! My skin is doing well. I am using First Aid Beauty retinol (0.25%) and plan to gradually ease my way up to 1%. I have sensitive skin, so taking it easy to begin with.
Oh! Did someone say patchouli?? I must try this!
Happy birthday to everyone! And I bet those brownies are delish!
Yes! You must!? Dame is really generous with the samples too. Thanks for the bday wishes.
I’m always looking for a good patchouli for my Mom, a noted patch fiend, so I might have to check this one out.
It has a lovely caramel note too. I think it’s a really “smooth” patchouli, some can be a bit harsh.
Happy Birthday to Your Dad and Son!
Thanks lillyjo!
Happy Birthday to your father and son! Mom and I were 4 days apart. She was really hoping for me to wait a few days. Years later, my sibling’s child was born on her birthday.
You never know what your future holds!
And you just gave Dame Perfumery a lot of samples to make. ?
Thanks! Did you order some samples? Which ones? Do report back!
Happy Birthday to your Dad. Same birthday as my older sister whose birthday we celebrated this past Saturday. Also, advanced Happy Birthday to your son. We have a good number of October birthdays in the family – must have been a cold winter …
Thanks for the birthday wishes! Yes, January is a very cold month.?
Earth Mother is my favorite of the Dame perfumes that I have tried.
And on that note, Important Perfume PSA: Dame is not making or sending out samples for September or October. They will resume samples on November 1, as per their website.
I think it’s my favorite too.?
SOTD is Hermes Santal Massoia. Part of discoveries during the weekend fragrance re-org.
Donatella will need to grace me with a good bit of forgiveness this time around.
Me too. Donatello forgives always
You can borrow some of mine, since I didn’t use any of it 🙂
of course! why didn’t I think of that?
You have such restraint!
I wish I could say that was true. It is more like I have SO much perfume left from my years of overbuying, plus, I have chronic indecision about what I could possibly need when I have so much, AND, so few of the fragrances I really want are available in small sizes. That makes it much easier to dither.
Same, as far as many from years ago. I dither and end up with something.? The 30 ml rule you mentioned before has stuck in the back of my head.
Ha, whereas I dither and just end up buying another shirt instead.
Wearing Box of Eels today to sit in a room full of people. I think I should be sitting in a forest full of trees!
It’s Monday Madness, Good Luck to all! ?
Well, got there only to find they haven’t got me in their “system” so I have to start tomorrow…??♀️
But, I smell GREAT! ?
Reprieve! Enjoy your day. 🙂
I will! Also just wanted to give a shout out to Twisted Lily because I ordered on Saturday and they’ve already shipped it this morning! Not affiliated, but with terrible customer service being the norm these days, I wanted to compliment GREAT CS when it happens.
I was just talking with my sisters about re-setting expectations! We ordered lunch from a restaurant last Saturday and my sister had to wait a while even though she was told to get there in 20 minutes.
And what’s up with people feeling entitled? I was at Target yesterday and decided to use the self-checkout line. There are two ways to approach the entry area to the section and I walked right into the area. As I put my items down to scan, this couple arrived at the entry and said to me “there is a line” — Oookaaay….and how did I offend you, my dears? And BTW and WTF, there were 2 other OPEN self-checkout registers for them to utilize. Regardless, I got there first. Did they think that spotting the entrance first gave them the right to be first in line? Not in my book.
They never have you in the system!
Enjoy your surprise day off!
I know, right? Maybe I’m missing the message they’re sending…?
Glad you got a “snow day”. Enjoy!
I’m happy it turned out this way, because they had me scheduled for “orientation” today and then return to work a full 12 hour shift tonight..?! Are they nuts? This gal needs sleep!
Good luck with your job environment Deva.
Thank you! I’ll take all the luck I can get. If EVERYONE wishes me luck, I may get lucky enough to win the 685 million power ball drawing. I’d share! ?
GOOD LUCK!!!
Remember me when you hit it big!
Don’t forget you have to buy a ticket! ??
Fingers crossed that you have a smoother day tomorrow! ??
Woke up in an oud mood, if not exactly a good mood. . . So am in Oud & Oud by Cartier, courtesy of the generous Pixel.
Hope the oud improves the mood?
Tom Ford Lost Cherry. It’s fun, something I always appreciate in a scent.
I’m in Lost Cherry also for a cool morning here in Seattle.
Monday, Monday. It’s only 8:00 and I’ve already prepared two meals, dug my bike and helmet out of the spidery garage so that the boy and I can ride our bikes to school today, sunscreened said boy, cut his nails, tidied up, panted a few times…
I’m in Cumming today, which I always secretly and laughingly pronounce “Kew-MANGZ” in my mind on account of this passage in e e cumming’s wonderful book The Enormous Room:
“Vous êtes uh-ah KEW-MANGZ?”
“What?” I said, completely baffled by this extraordinary dissyllable.
“Comprenez vous fran-çais?”
“Un peu.”
“Bon. Alors, vous vous ap-pel-lez KEW MANGZ, n’est-ce pas? Edouard KEW-MANGZ?”
“Oh,” I said, relieved, “yes.” It was really amazing, the way he writhed around the G.
“Comment ça se prononce en anglais?”
I told him.
Perfect, thanks for the story!
New week and a little too soon!
Sotd is Shalimar Vanilla Planifonia again. It is just one satisfying beauty.
Fixing myself a mug of chai laced with cocoa nibs (shell?) and sweetened with stevia.
My bottle is arriving today! Looking forward to sniffing.
Oh, sounds so tempting!
Does it smell like one of the Ode a la Vanilles? I don’t want to blind buy.
Happy Monday all, my SOTD is Shiseido’s Murasaki, iris, gardenia, galbanum, and incense. It’s going to be warm today! Must get a walk in before the heat sets in!
Murasaki sounds delightful, I’ve never heard of it!
Here’s a review from The Vintage Perfume Vault. It truly is exquisite stuff. My bottles are the original burgundy.
http://thevintageperfumevault.blogspot.com/2010/11/shiseido-murasaki-poetry-of-perfume.html
That sounds wonderful- and with a walk in warm air that would be delightful! Like an light incense cloud.
Warm, and very humid day with some drizzle.
Wearing CdG Kyoto and drinking my third cup of coffee. I am feeling physically and mentally exhausted today. It should be better tomorrow!
Happy Monday, everyone! ?
You smell fabulous! Mondays are the pits sometimes. I hope you’re able to get some good rest tonight!?
Thank you Deva! ?
? for a much better tomorrow.
You are a beacon of light, I hope you feel it given back to you, 1,000 fold.?
Thank you, for your sweet words Annie! Sending hugs! ?
Hope you feel like yourself soon 🙂
Thank you, Ringthing! ?
You smell great! Sorry you’re exhausted but hopefully, tomorrow will be better.
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
Same weather here – hope you get a good rest tonight.
Thank you, Cazaubon! Looking forward to a good night sleep!
Hoping that you get a good night’s rest tonight! I did last night, and it really does wonders. ?
Thank you, Jalapeno! ?
Wearing Bal a Versailles this morning, always pleased to wear this again when the weather turns towards crisp fall air. I have the vintage cologne, which I consider to be the best version of it.
I have been seriously neglecting BaV and will have to start wearing it again.
You smell wonderful! I have the vintage cologne, too and it just blooms!
Off for a bike ride, after shower it will be Clouds edp.
Let ilia know what you think of the newest Shalimar…I’m excited to hear about it!
I didn’t get a chance to chime in yesterday, I hope you’re feeling better! A bike ride sounds like a great idea.
Yes, I’m feeling better today, thank you. 🙂 I think my menopause hormones are playing with my emotions, I was up with night sweats last night.
Ugh, night sweats are HORRIBLE!
Nice and Clouds EDP is fabulous. I will chime in with please let us know about the new Shalimar.
Party time is over and heading to work. Testing out Burberry Brit today. It smells like a stripped down version of the original Hedonist. I am enjoying it so far but Hedonist is far superior.
Several of Brit’s flankers are excellent, but I never loved Brit.
Wearing Avon Candid deodorant – it reminds me of the Neutrogena Rain Bath after bath oil, and also sort of like Oscar de la Renta original – I guess it’s the white floral/woodsiness.
It’s very nice!
How cool! I have not used a roll on deodorant in years.
Original Gabrielle, again from pawing through a pile of samples. I prefer my flanker.
Disappointed at the reality of living in an area some folks/companies consider the hinterlands. I saw a headboard on Macy’s website that my husband and I liked. And it was on good sale. Unfortunately, the company that makes/sells it doesn’t deliver to our zip code. I called Macy’s to see if delivery to a store for pick up was possible. Nope. Patience wouldn’t be a virtue if it was easy, I guess.
You can maybe ask Nordstrom to price match if Nordstrom is not too far from you.
I can’t imagine why they won’t deliver to the store. That’s just nuts…
That sucks. I live in the hinterlands of Canada now, I’m likely to run into the same problem.
Robin, many years ago I posted here about smelling a perfume on a woman and asking her what it was. Her answer was it’s Killian, it’s very expensive, but she didn’t tell me the name!. I loved it so much, and finally figured out it was Sacred Wood. Of course, by then it was long gone. You smell fantastic!
My own sotd is Alien Essence Absolue mixed with a little Mariah Carey M, which is my daughter’s sotd.
I feel your pain Lillyjo and that was mean of her not to give you the name.
I agree with Aurora that it was mean not to tell you the name but felt it was appropriate to let you know it was expensive. When my former co-workers asked me what perfume I wore the one day, I gave them the name and let them decide for themselves if it was worth paying for it.
How rude and insulting! What a b*. You smell great!
Ah, that’s too bad.
That stinks (bad pun intended) about not knowing the perfume name until it was too late.
Hey, just saw Sacred Wood for sale at Nose in Paris online. So I am guessing it can still be found.
Wearing a sample of Valentia Myrrh Assoluto today. It reminds me a dear fragrance friend who gave me this sample, she is super into this scent. It’s a bit sweet for me, the bottle is gorgeous though.
I’m continuing to feel grateful that I don’t have to go into the office on Mondays!
Mondays would have been my extra day in the office except I’ve been off every Monday since last Monday and will be off every Monday in October. I do “make up” for it on Tuesdays but do not feel obligated since it is an extra day.
You smell wonderful!
That’s a great sounding perfume name.
I’m still working my way through the Les Indemodables sample set, today is Vanille Havane.
That was my favorite of the line and the only one I felt moved to purchase.
Hey all! I’m back from my out of town excursion and back to work ?
Fantastic Fest was fun though, even scaled way back from what it normally is.
SOTD is Figuer Ardent.
Sorry you’re back, really glad it was fun!
I’m doing a month of samples. Today is La Fille de Berlin, which I didn’t like so much when I first tried it, too much honey. It has since grown on me and I feel quite attractive when I wear it. I’m just terrified of that color.
It was also perfect for the last sunny days before rainy autumn, which is predicted for the rest of the week. :/
Looks like we have quite a few days of clouds and/or rain coming up too.
Ted Lapidus Creation from a vintage mini a parfum is to gifted me with my partial bottle of Dryad. Maybe I will buy a bottle of the current formula to see if it will suffice.
SotD is Jul et Mad Fugit Amor to kick off the Monday.
You smell great, Lucas!
I started the day in Crown Perfumery’s Green Tea. Time to reapply.
I had this one sitting around for such a long time, and have worn it only very occasionally. A few months ago, I was obsessed with a sample of Wulong Cha, but couldn’t quite get all the way to a full-bottle purchase. Longevity was one issue. I tried the Crown again by way of comparison, and here’s the part I’m a little reluctant to confess: to my nose, these 2 are awfully close. I bet I’m missing something. I imagine Wulong Cha has better projection, since the Crown is an oil. It’s a compromise that works well enough for me and my perfume-eating skin, and my wallet is safe for now!
Gosh, I bet you’re *not* missing anything. Trust your nose!
Monday!
1) SOTD: Cloud Body spray with Cloud Intense. I smell very snuggly.
2) Today will be a very intense strength training day – I bought a bunch of delightful pastries yesterday and the piper must be paid! Also for any who are interested, I put up some pictures of the tile work from last week on the Insta. I still need to place some bulnose corners on those tiles for a finished look.
3) Also, looked at Vespas and other scooters/mopeds this weekend at a shop in St. Johns. Scooters can go farther and faster, and cost just as much as an e bike(sometimes cheaper). But there is the noise. I did not think I would be so sensitive to the noise that a moped makes. Plus the registration & fees with the state. Am still thinking!
Is it just me or does it say for everyone that your Instagram feed won’t refresh? I can’t get this little swirly circle from stopping.
I’d love to see those tiles. You are NST and DYI and youtube in one!
There is a network wide issue with some servers that supply FB and Insta, and I think Alphabet are having issues as well. Please check back later on in the day.
The tiles, when you see them, are beveled subway tiles!
I am dying to see them!!!
I’ve never had tiles and my house needs a total remodel, but I am really attached to it. I grew up in it.
*virtual perfumed hug*
Maybe you just think the house needs a remodel. Maybe it just needs refreshing with paint and organization. What a joy, to have a home that you grew up in come into your care. I wish I still had my childhood home in Brooklyn!
Instagram seems to be back, but I can’t find the post with the tiles. Will try to remember to look tomorrow, I do want to see them!
i couldn’t get in either and the conspiracy theorist in me is connecting the whistleblower revelations with this outage – there’s nothing like depriving your readers of the BIG news.
Oy oy oy!
What whistleblower news? The Pandora Papers?
Prioritizing corporate profits over the safety of the public, in particular, Facebook. Social media sites such as FB, IG and Whats Up are having issues. A lot of denials, of course.
Oh! Well, I coulda told you THAT, just based on prior actions- or nonactions- and what is actually allowed on the site PLUS my own tracking of language used on those sites (I have personally tracked similarities in responses and posts to certain groups with agendas and deep wells of funds.)
It’s part of the reason why I limit any and all engagement with FB with Marketplace- I could see and feel the deliberate allowance of disinformation, hateful rhetoric, sheer vile nastiness to seep into my feed from friends, who previously were interested in meeting up for waffles, movies and shows.
Just caught that. Are they trying to scrub?
Conspiracy theories! Let the games begin! Mine is,Influencer Pets are taking over the world.
Ugh, influencers! I suppose there is a place in the world for them as an adjunct to marketing; however, influencers should disclose if they are highlighting an item that was gifted vs. purchased. If an item is gifted, I usually don’t register a like except for the ones that consistently disclose. I am trying to discern the ones who do vs. the ones who don’t and the one’s who don’t will, at some point, hear from me, especially the ones who signed on to Christophe Laudamiel’s perfume rules (not his Manifesto).
Now, I need to look up rules.?
I don’t follow enough perfume people to see Influencers. I consider you an Enabler.
I confessed my latest perfume purchase to Donatella in tbe damage poll, so that’s my scent for today – Armani Privé Encens Satin.
I bet you smell gorgeous.
Nice!
You smell great!
Spent the day in Cacharel Amor-Amor, bottle almost finished and won’t get a new one I think, I will miss the burst of citrus. This evening it’s Nobile 1942 Ambra Nobile, a very resinous and dry amber I enjoy quite a bit.
You have CP points from me, my mother wore Amor-Amor for a long time and it always makes me think of her 🙂
Thank you for the points ?, how wonderful that it reminds you of your mother, such a special perfume.
Tabu today – my October fragrance. Culling and packing for our move. Once I get started it becomes a contest! I may even go through a few fragrances! Value Village has been a source for a few vintage gems, it’s time I returned the favour!
Tabu is a perfect October fragrance!
I never find anything good in thrift stores! Maybe I need to go to Value Village.
Marron Chic yesterday and today. I think I was with Hajusuuri when I bought it at the closedown of Henri Bendel’s perfume department. Went to a lovely art fair yesterday–beautiful weather for browsing around.
Yes we were there together. I thought about Henri Bendel’s last Friday when I was looking at the L’Artisan Parfumeur line and you must still have been on my mind today as I wore DSH! Plus I gave my sister the DSH 18% discount code and she showed me what she ordered on Saturday.
SOTD = DSH Oeillets Rouges EDP
This is one of my favorites from DSH! No pictures today since IG is down.
I have 4 more sets of freebies – please check out the Lazy Weekend Poll for details. Please place your dibs there and send me an email.
In other news, I got my flu shot today and my arm is a-hurting. I made the tactical mistake of getting it today instead of yesterday, but it’s a strategic success. I usually wait until the end of October or even in November but something NOT COVID is hanging about and whatever it is, I at least want to feel like I did what I could to protect myself to a certain extent short of living like a hermit which I won’t do.
In more other news, I got my mail-in ballot for the November elections (we have to elect a governor, among others). I have to say this was the earliest I have received the ballot in all the years I’ve been voting my mail. Also, for the first time, there was a step by step illustrated procedure on how to prepare the ballot. I suppose too many people messed up or they are trying to further reduce the number that could not be counted due to a procedural error. I will drop it off this Saturday at Town Hall.
No politics, on here. Can I mention the system in my state? I’ve been too lazy to look up the others.
You can only vote in primaries if you are a member of one of the Democrat or Republican parties.
What if your local leadership is a different party than you might vote nationally?
The primaries were a long time ago it seemed…over the early summer. You are right in that you can only primary those in your party. That said, it doesn’t preclude you from voting in the “real” election.
My daughter was very upset about Instagram being down. She kept wanting me to fix it.
Well, you ARE Wonder Woman, right?! ?
Wait, you mean the Smurf snuffer? LOL. I hope you were able to get the blue out!
Lo!?
I did get it out of the tub. She managed to get some on the floor though, and I am still working on that.
Getting sick of the @#$%&* political ads already. And we have a month to go before they stop.
Hello everyone. To help me get through a frustrating day at work I wore Chanel 31 RC. It reminds me of one of my favourite bloggers so I am accidentally CP-compliant too! It was a blind buy during a lockdown earlier this year (very foolish I know, based on the expense involved) and after finding it disappointingly muted at first, I now love it for its restraint.
Hope tomorrow is a better work day!
Wearing 2 sprays of L’Heure Bleue edp. It’s potent stuff and should wear it more often, especially when it’s a bit colder outside.
I have so many I forget to wear!
L’HB is an excellent pick for fall! ??
I should wear it more often, too — it suffers the same fate as the “good china.” Wonderous stuff, and weirdly comforting.
It’s a Monday, and one of the cats has been particularly whiny today. ? So very humid outside today, bletch. But getting things done!
SOTD = AG Mandragore Poupre EdT, from the sample stash. It feels like and smells like a summery Goth scent to me.
It’s not even that warm here ( around 70ish) but very muggy.
Yay for getting things done!
Here’s hoping that the muggies go away soon for both of us!
Ugly day today bit at least I have the day off! I hope whiny cat becomes lovey cat tomorrow!
Whiny cat did not care for Monday either!
Give a scratch for me to the whiny cat.
She has been skritched as of earlier this evening.
Accidentally put on the wrong body butter. It is a warm wintry one, so it fits better than the clementine citrus I was reaching for.
Drowned myself in Kulfi, sweatshirt and all. Yum!
Oh, bet you do smell fantastic!
