Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and B.B. King’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate for the classic Pancho and Lefty, by Townes Van Zandt.
Reminder: 9/17 is International Country Music Day. Name a favorite country music song and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Townes Van Zandt sings "a medley of his hit". (Also: Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett & Marty Stuart, Bob Dylan)

Commando today for a medical appointment, sadly. I’m going to stash a decant of Copal Azur in my bag, though, for later!
Smell good, everybody.
Good luck with your appointment!
Good luck with the appointment!
Good luck!
Hope all goes well and it’s good to be prepared with perfume at the ready!
Good call on the perfume stash! Hope the appt goes well.
Best wishes for good outcomes!
Medical appointment twins.
I love having perfume to look forward to after a medical appt. Good luck!
Hope it went well!
Hope that your appointment was a good one!
good morning all,
another early start. Love the picture, open western skies.
we have have a bit of cool here. I will maybe break out Chergui for the day.
Flu shot after work.
Everybody’s talking about Chergui and now I think I’m going to have to wear it tomorrow. Or soon, anyway. It’s so good.
Halston Catalyst for Men. Smells like the eighties (with a list of notes to match), but it’s actually mid-nineties. Phenomenally good, a nimbus of spices and woods without a sharp edge in sight, and probably the best packaging of any men’s fragrance ever.
That sounds really nice, pyramus. You always send me over to Fragrantica to check out stuff, lol!
Ohhh yeah, you smell amazing! I think I’ll wear something from Halston today….. House twins! 😉
That sounds great!
In Byredo Pulp.
Had the flu shot last night after work and I am feeling exhausted today. Hope to feel better as the day goes by. On my second cup of plain coffee, which is not helping.
Happy almost Friday!
Hope you feel perkier soon!
Thank you Cazaubon! I am sure I will be ok tomorrow.
I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you, SmokeyToes!
Feeling exhausted was my main reaction, too. Yeah, coffee won’t help but hopefully your immune system is getting *pumped up!* Does BP remind you of anything else?
I do not remember having smelled anything similar to BP. Does it remind you of any other scent?
Yay for getting that flu shot taken care of!
I can’t think of anything else that smells like Pulp. I recall that AS Saturday also has a passionfruit note. But I don’t remember those two being similar.
I am glad I had the shot earlier this year. One more thing out of my checklist.
I agree that Pulp and Saturday have nothing in common. One is fig and apple and the other passion fruit. I am not a fan of fruity perfumes, but those two along with Bombay Bling are my 3 favorites!
I recall Pulp having a tropical edge to its fruit in my sniffing. Also something tart that made my mouth water.
I need to get to my doctor for a flu shot, and I hope that I will be eligible for the booster for Covid. I’m wearing No.22 today from a small decant that I got from a freebiemeet. Very aldehydic (is that a word?). Anyway not a favorite.
I hope you can get the booster, getting mine put me at ease that’s for sure. My team at UCSF recommended it and in many Walgreens in my area it’s walk in, no appointment necessary.
Which variation of No. 22 do you have? The EdT? Is the exclusifs version?
I have no idea about the version. It is the remains of a small decant (3ml maybe). The label (a piece of tape) just read #22. I got it from a generous NSTer during a freebiemeet, I think last year, and this is the first I’ve worn it, as I am not a great fan of Chanel.
I have vintage Chanel No 22 cologne. It’s a beautiful meditative beauty; white florals over incense. The new EDP is screechy to me.
The EDT of 10 years ago is a joyful, effervescent, white floral, without the depth of the vintage, but still pretty.
I have the EDT and it’s a top love for me! Of course, a lot of that is also sentimental — No. 22 EDT was the first Chanel I ever bought for myself, decades ago.
I find Chanel 22 very “high-pitched.” That’s the main thing that comes to mind for me. Not a favorite for me at all.
Ooh, please do let us know if we can get the flu shot and the booster (not eligible yet) at the same time.
I heard that Moderna is working on a combo flu/C19 vax, but it’s not yet available. Not sure of any others. I know there is quite a bit of “conversation” around the booster, and that the director and deputy director of Offices of Vaccine Research and Review have resigned over the issue. Interesting that this big event is hardly covered by mainstream news channels. And that’s all I’m going to say about that! ?
I don’t watch tv news as a rule, but it has certainly been covered extensively by mainstream print / internet media — have read quite a bit about it.
I was just on the CVS website and they are offering the booster and the flu vaccine together.
SOTD is Angelique Noire.
Today the weather is lovely, one of these crisp not so warm September days. I love the Autumn light.
Looking forward to the weekend!
You smell fabulous! Love AN.
Ditto! There are a few of us fans here, but not many. I may wear this later today.
I am definitely a fan.. my first love from l’Art et la Matiere. Such a great contrast between the sharp herbal aniseed-like angelica and the vanilla ❤️
She is classified as country but I am not so sure..now she is more American..but I am still a fan.
My SOTD of the day fits purrrrrfect By Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad
and this song..
https://youtu.be/e-ORhEE9VVg
Ohhhh, I love that song! And you smell fantastic! Good Girl Gone Bad is one of my favorites from the Killian line.
me too 🙂
I have a decant that I am almost finishing up and I wonder if I should just spring for a FB.
I also love Love Extreme. My kids adore this scent on me.
What are your favorites?
Yesterday I wore Chanel foundation and thought of you…
Also did you see that they are coming out with Le Teint cushions? I am not a fan usually of these, but if Chanel can do one I may like it.
Morning L2SG! Straight to Heaven and Good Girl Gone Bad are my two favorites. I purchased S2H when it was first released and it was instant love – no regrets! I have the little travel spray that I can pop any refill I want into the canister. I love how it has that ‘click’ to let you know the top is secured.
Oh, if anyone can do a cushion, it’s Chanel. I’ll be on the lookout for that! Thanks!
Oh Robin, I was delighted to see Townes van Zandt mentioned – thank you! He’s one of my all time favourites. I was lucky enough to go to a TvZ concert on a couple of occasions when he played in Scotland. I visited Nashville many years ago & happened to be in a bar which had a poster display of people who had played there, & Townes was one – I got chatting to the venue owner & mentioned I was a huge fan. When I was leaving, the owner came chasing after me & handed me a cardboard tube containing a poster which had obviously been created as a tribute after Townes’ death, as the wording is ‘Townes van Zandt, Poet, 1944-1997’ – the photograph shows him in sunglasses, his jacket slung over his shoulder, with a cigarette in his mouth. Needless to say I was absolutely thrilled at his kind gesture, & the poster was duly framed & has been on display in our house ever since.
Lovely story, and a great memory.
Great story!! And you were lucky to see him — wish I had when he was still around.
Great story, I remember when he died.
SotD for the CP is Lubin Idole EdT, and dedicating Lucinda Williams’ “Drunken Angel” to a beloved family member.
https://youtu.be/wLUf7X5ILJA
It’s a dark, rainy day here. What can I say?
Scent twins! ?
Yay! I’m finding this is just what I needed today.
SOTD is Halston today, again for Neko Case songs: “I’m from Nowhere” and “South Tacoma Way.” The latter is her at her most country, I guess:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8iz8oNzOxM.
Realizing that with yesterday’s Incendo, I could also have mentioned the entire k.d. lang album “Drag.”
Love that album!
Hi all, more trouble sleeping, on cup of coffee #2. My SOTD is Halston Couture, from the frosted glass, silver topped bottle (90’s edition, I think).
Everyone have a great day today!
I had trouble sleeping too! My burst of energy yesterday might have made me too jumpy to sleep well.
I have had trouble sleeping all week…whats in the air???
It is strange, isn’t it??
Me four. It does seem to go around.
I started my next class in the series for my HR certificate, “From Equity to Diversity, managing Institutions in times of change”. Engaging topic, also a little intense.
I am definitely not surprised I had trouble sleeping.
Oh, I bet that really is intense.
I’m in Tabac Aurea by Sonoma Scent Studio for a cool, sunny day.
On a mission today to get the van cleaned out, stocked, and road ready for a short road trip down to Oregon for our next contract starting in October. Need to do laundry and grocery shopping, too.
But first, coffee! ☕️
Stay well, NSTers! ✌?
Totally stealing ockeghem’s idea above and pairing my scent with My Last Cigarette by kd lang. My actual last cigarette was in 2009 and I don’t miss them!
https://youtu.be/SGypFwcZ4Mw
My last cigarette was 10/31/88 and I still think of them sometimes, despite hating the smell, expense and knowledge of the dangers of smoking. You smell great today, Deva.
Good for you! That’s a real accomplishment! Those habits die hard, and if you think about them occasionally, no harm done. ??
Great choice, and great scent! My last cigarette was sometime in about 1993, but I was never really a smoker, TBH.
Great idea on your part. ? I was an off and on smoker, sometimes a pack a day, sometimes one or two cigarettes. I think it was mostly learned behavior for me. A poor coping mechanism that is right up there with eating to feel better. Congrats on quitting entirely. ??
That reminds me of my mom. She was a NICU nurse, worked 3-11 when that shift still existed. She’d hit the lazyboy when she got home, drink a soda and smoke exactly two cigarettes before she went to sleep. It helped her unwind, I think.
You smell awesome! I’m looking forward to some road trips too, tired of sitting in the house.
I see fabulous road trip in your future! ??
Perfect fragrance for a cool sunny day.
It is! ?
Sending a big thumbs up to all the former smokers who have kicked the habit for good! ?
Aerin Lilac Path and a cup of Himalayn Spice Tea.
Both of those sound lovely!
Thanks 🙂
Have you tried her new one? Cedar Violet or something like that…
No, but I would like to try it.
Wearing Lubin Idole edt for a coolish day. I feel like I’m trying to swim in mud today, where’s the nice boost of yesterday? Too much on my mind, I guess.
Well you do smell great anyway! (And join you in the swimming in mud. I do think it’s general here this week.)
Testing out Papillon Spell 125 today. It’s not what I expected from the notes. I get a rather industrial opening smell, which then softens a bit and opens up as it dries down. Not detecting any sweetness. It’s complex and I think will require a few wearings to make friends. Definitely interesting!
Interesting! Thanks for your thoughts. This one is def on my wishlist.
Oh, I’m hearing widely divergent reviews on this one. I look forward to testing it soon!
I’m looking forward to smelling this as I found all of her scents so interesting. But looking at the notes, I doubt it will be a love as I don’t usually enjoy conifer notes in perfume. Not sure why, as I love them in nature.
Do you find it to have prominent pine notes, cazaubon? Looking forward to your final verdict!
The only one I own so far is Angelique. Which reminds me to start wearing it- somehow I think it’s best suited for Fall and Spring.
I don’t smell much pine/conifer. Someone on Basenotes compared it to SSS Incense Pure, but that one has a lot more pine to it than this does. It smells like there is a fair amount of birch tar or something that resembles it.
Would love to read your thoughts on Angelique. That one keeps calling to me, with Tobacco Rose. I have and love Dryad and Bengale Rouge.
Without looking at the notes, the overall impression it gives me is of a soft leathery iris. I liked it the most with Dryad and Bengal Rouge.
Strangely both Angelique and Anubis make me think of pine kernels.. don’t ask me why!
If you are from the UK I could send you a decant?
Oooof. Industrial opening is not good.
SotD = Molton Brown Fiery Pink Pepper shower gel and a few yummi sprays of Chinatown.
By the way it was my first time using a Molton Brown product and I am really loving this shower gel!! I had no idea though that Molton Brown was servicing the queen in England.
now you are royalty (in the shower)
?
In Chloë Sevigny Little Flower, which despite its softness and accessibility, I am pairing with the (D) Chicks’ ‘Not Ready to Make Nice,’ cuz some mornings that is just how ya feel.
Great pick!
Sotd is No.19.
I matched it with the song Ten feet tall and bulletproof by Travis Tritt. It’s a cute song and funny video.
https://youtu.be/LHemwxHp1B4
Oh, lillyjo, I was cracking up at that video and the song – thanks. And you smell wonderful and I think No. 19 would be perfect at that bar or at some most elegant event – so we know it’s great.
Glad to share the laugh with you!
No. 19 — you smell wonderful!
Thank you!
No.19 in any formulation is wonderful but of course you know my favorite !
I think of you every time I wear it!
Someday I will get a bottle of No. 19! I rather liked the sample I had of the EdT, and everyone needs a bottle of liquid armor.
One of these days I will try the edt. I only know the edp and Poudre.
And I know the Poudre and the EdT, but haven’t tried the EdP. Looks like No. 19 has been pulled out of stores like Saks and NM and is only in the boutiques and online. Drat.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. Spending some time in Eau Premiere today.
Happy belated!
I missed it, but still wishing you a wonderful year, a day late! ?
Ooh, you smell wonderful! Happy birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
Wearing Azzaro Wanted Girl By Night…notes are below…a sweet, boozy fruitchouli of the first order. ?
Top Notes: Rum, Chantilly cream
Middle Notes: Queen of the Night flower
Base notes: Patchouli
Ooh that sounds nice
She-ra, I’m curious if you have found your unicorn vanilla perfume yet? What would you say are your top 5 vanilla prominent scents? I know you’ve done tons of research and had a lot of “skin time” looking for your HG, and I’m really curious if you have found it.
SotD Iris Torrefie, again. Warm late Summer weather seems to bring it to swoon-worthy levels with all the notes coming out to play. I was down to my last few spritzes of my Split Meet share, and got a full bottle just before the thunk. BTW, I feel hopeful about Guerlain’s changes to the custom bottles for L’Art et la Matiere line. I think the larger bottle is more cost-efficient for the company, and the customizable option will tempt people for more sales. Therefore, Guerlain will be able to keep making a better product. OK, I really AM cynical about the state of mainstream perfumery, but this time…IDK, I trust Guerlain.
I commend you for putting a positive spin on this ?
This morning I sprayed Fennal body spray all over, and Eau de Gaga. Went for a hospital appointment (physiotherapy ). This afternoon I applied JP Sublime on my wrist as I haven’t worn it in a long time and this evening I am in Etro Royal Pavillon, a honeyed floral, it is no longer on the Etro website, but still available at the discounters, mine is vintage and I think the Fragrantica list of notes are not correct.
*Fenjal
I read it as Fennel and thought, ooh that sounds good!
? Fennel is a great note.
Royal Pavilion is lovely, I have a bottle of it too. It seemed to fly under the radar, don’t hear it mentioned much.
So glad you like it too, yes, it’s a sleeper of a fragrance.
Some of Etro’s older scents are so lovely. It’s a shame that they are almost impossible to find now.
I think so too, we don’t talk of them enough, except for the two incense ones, Messe de Minuit and Shaal Nur.
And even those have become harder to find for me.
Love the picture!
SOTD = Bath & Body Works Bonfire Bash
… Fine Fragrance Mist from my $8.50 75mL bottle. It’s cheap thrill for sure, even without a discount. Sweet, smoky vanilla for the 5 hours it lasted with hajusuuri-level sprays. I am now in a sample of Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa and will report back.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CT5F922J3jp/?utm_medium=copy_link
It’s a gray day again with a few spots of sunshine. I can’t wait for proper Fall!
On tenterhooks to read your review/impression of the new Guerlain! And yes, Robin, that is a beautiful picture.
? It sure packed a punch in a very good way: Spicy incense, rose, sandalwood and milky fig!
I love Bonfire Bash, bought the body lotion. Looking forward to your thoughts on Santal Pao Rosa.
I definitely got the rose, along with spice, incense, sandalwood and milky fig. It definitely looks like what people voted on in terms of the notes. With this said, whomever thought that this smelled like French Kiss must have smelled a different French Kiss because mine is fruity violet iris!
It is Rose Chérie that is the reworked French Kiss, Santal Pao Rosa is the only really new one. Wish I got the rose but it was pretty much all sandalwood on me. I like it and it will layer well with lots of things, including Rose Chérie I think.
Got it. I went back to Saks and smelled Rose Cherie on paper. There are some similarities but different enough that if I were to smell it on its own, I would not have thought it similar to French Kiss. That said, I will need wear Rose Cherie …I’m pretty sure I have a sample!
They smell quite different on the opening due to the big tart rose note, but later in the drydown you can definitely see the resemblance to French Kiss.
Your description of Synthetic Jungle yesterday has only increased my interest. I might be hearing the little pitter-patter of lemming feet…
I got the lemming for SJ yesterday too.
Definitely worth a sniff!
I aim to please ?. If you like greenie florals with light patchouli, Synthetic Jungle is worth a sniff for sure!
Ooooooooooooooooooh! Dangerous info!
Let me add one more to your thousands of enabler pins. Just picked up a bottle of Bonfire Bash. Smoky vanilla is hard to resist.
? I hope you like it. I have a high tolerance for sweet!
Okay, with that, you saved me the gasoline and the trip. Thank you! ?
Here’s my IG post on SOTD #2:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CT55tolj2Z_/?utm_medium=copy_link
SOTD is Aedes de Venustas. I remember trying this years ago and not liking it at all. It was too “perfumey” for me. In fact, I was kind of annoyed they had chosen this for me as one of the free samples they sent with my order of Grisette, because I couldn’t see any connection between the two. 🙂 I didn’t appreciate it then, but at least I was smart enough to hang onto it (i.e. I’m a sample hoarder). Trying it again today, it is fantastic. Rhubarb, tomato leaf, a bit of incense, a bit of honeysuckle. All notes that I love and can’t believe blend together as well as they do. I don’t get apple as a standalone note, but whatever molecule is used to make apple always works with my skin to make the whole frag better, and no exception here. I hope the rumors about this coming back are true.
Drinking Fortnum & Mason Albion tea. I reorganized my tea cabinet last weekend and celebrated by buying more tea, including this one. 🙂
I remember not liking this one either, but I don’t have a sample to try it again. I do love Fortnum & Mason tea however. 🙂
You smell fabulous! Aedes Signature is one of my favorite fragrances, so unique and definitely a gateway perfume for me. I’ll be curious to try the new release.
I love Aedes, so glad you gave it another chance! I don’t pick up the honeysuckle at all, I’ll have to sniff closer the next time I wear this.
I’m feeling like a sophisticated lady in Sisley Eau du Soir. Googled for sophisticated country songs and came up with this gem:
https://youtu.be/eEpNJ40dX2M
Hubster came home with Popeye’s deep fried chicken nuggets after his stress test this morning. ??
Haha! Your husband is the ?!
He is a pip for sure!
It was his reward for passing? (But,hey, yum!)
I saw your comment about the no-knead challah. I use the King Arthur recipe from their website. I think I usually make a half batch (? – it makes a couple of loaves, or lots of buns) and have left the dough in the fridge for up to a week. It’s super easy to work with and comes out perfectly every time.
I’ve also made melissa clark’s NYT orange-scented (not no-knead) challah, which has a delicious flavor, but I prefer the texture of the King Arthur – it’s lighter and fluffier.
Thank you for the info on the KA recipe! It looks like it’s easy to halve the recipe, and since it’s just my husband and I, that’s the way to go.
I checked out the Clark recipe and am wondering if orange zest and juice could be added to the no knead recipe. Maybe just the zest? Not sure what the acid in the OJ would to to an overnight dough. Only one way to find out!
Oh, and the stress test was a routine thing. We’ll find out the results in a week or so.
I think it probably could but I don’t have enough expertise to know exactly how to modify it (though I’ve thought about it a lot ?). Certainly the zest wouldn’t be a problem, and with the long ferment might provide enough subtle orange flavor? I’ll have to try this myself soon… If you end up experimenting, let me know!
I will report back. ?
Yes, well. I share your hubby’s predilection. A few weeks without buying a perfume or other unnecessary treat is best rewarded by buying a treat. 🙂 😉
I know, right? Sometimes all I need to take the edge off is just getting a new shower gel. Which is why I have a plethora of shower gels. ?
LOL! I’ve indulged in Chick-Fil-A a few times recently. When it hits that spot, it is so darn tasty! ??
So true Jalapeno! Love their nuggets.
And I saw the Wild One giving you extra eyes of lurve ?.
Full court press hard beg.
Friday here – yay!
We’re trying to keep numbers low in the office at the moment, and it’s working. I went in for the day yesterday, and there were about 20 people at most on a floor that sits 250. Very strange. I was totally sick of working at home and very glad of the change of scenery, but almost relieved to be back at home today, and doing a bit more sample testing.
A change of scenery is good.
Still tired today, but that’s due to a patchy night’s sleep and Mr. Jalapeno’s alarm clock going off at 6:30 this morning. He’s off on a fishing trip until sometime Sunday, so I have the house to myself! I also did shift onto the correct time zone today.
But the weather is definitely grey and blah. No spots of sun to be had at all. Temps are still a touch above “normal”.
Sending out a “Heya!” to Gail, hajusuuri, and cazaubon. I did see your comments from last night after all. Dunno what is up with my Internet as of late, but Egads has it been s-l-o-w at times!
SOTD = back in Passage d’Enfer again today. Every so often I get a little whiff of it and think “Hey, that’s nice!”
Sorry you are still draggy!
I’m much more present tonight than I was at this time last night. So things are moving in the right direction.
Sorry you’ve had to deal with tiredness.
Thanks Aurora. Most of it is jet lag, so I figure it will ease up soon.
I hope you are feeling a bit better, Jalapeno. Enjoy your “home alone” time this weekend!
I am feeling better, thanks! I am looking forward to getting a bunch of laundry done without Mr. Jalapeno underfoot this weekend, ha!
I hope you have a relaxing weekend. The kitties will probably be all over you for extra attention!
Both cats have taken their turns curled up on the couch beside me tonight. One of them is a ruthless snuggler when it comes to the bed as well.
I hope you have something fun planned for your weekend sans Mr. J
(in addition to the laundry 🙂 )
Mr. Vee takes a weeklong camping trip with friends every summer and I get take out from all the places I like and he doesn’t while he’s gone.
I spent most of the day in last night’s Shalimar Souffle, which lasted most of the day until an early evening shower. Am now testing a spritz of Dusita Splendiris, which is lovely so far.
I recently bought some samples from ZGO in San Francisco, which came with a 15% off coupon on a future order. I used it to buy 2 of the small Nicolai bottles for my husband, and that order came with 6 free samples, which came with another 15% off code. Seems a girl could ride the ZGO train for quite a while…
Anyhoo, the Dusita is from my most recent order, which arrived Monday but I am just now getting to sniffing.
All on board!
Wow! Nicely done with those ZGO orders!
Yeah, ZGO got me hooked on that train a few months ago and they have gotten an order a month from me ever since. Smart marketing on their part – I can’t resist a % off coupon. Also, I love that their samples come in spray vials.
I can’t hear youuuuuuu….
Yes! Appreciate the sprays and very reasonable sample prices even without the discount!
Little did I know I would be CP-compliant when I spritzed my new decant of SL’s Five O’Clock Au Gingembre this morning! Yes, there is a country song, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere”. https://youtu.be/BPCjC543llU
And I’m loving Five O’Clock Au Gingembre, though I think I might love it even more on my husband.
Perfect!
Another work day at the office. It’s going to take me awhile to get used to it!
I was very indecisive this morning, and randomly chose my sample of Initio Side Effects. It’s a cozy and lovely tobacco, boozy scent. I like it a lot but I definitely already have a couple scents that fill the same need and this one is way too pricey!
Money $aved, then!
I liked that one too, but not enough to cough up for a FB. You smell great ?
Wore Natori today. I picked up on mostly the plum and none of the rose. This is a good scent for the transition to fall weather we are having.
Mindless guilty pleasure tv has been the Below Deck series. Should be good for the rainy weekend ahead!
Had never heard of that show, but it looks fun!!
I am very excited that Great British Baking show will be back next week.
