It's Hump Day, the International Day of Democracy and Agatha Christie’s birthday. RIP Norm Macdonald. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Maria Candida Gentile Lankaran Forest for Rainy Night in Georgia, the Conway Twitty + Sam Moore version from the 1994 album Rhythm, Country and Blues.
Reminder: 9/17 is International Country Music Day. Name a favorite country music song and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Below, Conway Twitty and Sam Moore singing Rainy Night in Georgia. The song was written in 1967 by Tony Joe White (here) and popularized by Brook Benton in 1970 (here). There is also a fantastic Lucinda Williams version (and while you're at it, she has great covers of Ode to Billie Joe and The Games People Play), and of course Ray Charles.

We finally have a day that feels like fall, so my sotd is Chergui. It smells so good! The hay note is my favorite. I’m feeling less tired today than yesterday, how’s everyone else doing?
I am also less tired today. Something was in the air yesterday!
It really was!
Was just thinking about Chergui yesterday…will have to break it out soon!!
I am MORE tired today because I’ve started my new work hours starting at 6 am ?
Yikes, 6 am is early. I used to start at 7 and thought that was early. Now I start at 7:30 and it’s amazing what a difference just a half hour makes. Do you get done early then? And have the afternoon to enjoy.
Yep, off at 2:30 so I have plenty of time after, which is nice! Just gotta adjust ?
Hope that happens soon – being off so early in the day is often very convenient, but I hope your family won’t expect you to still be rockin’ at 10:30 pm, lol.
My H’s schedule was 6-2 for pretty much all of his working life. Until recently. It’s now 7-5. We’d both prefer his previous schedule for obvious reasons, but it took me years to adopt a similar sleep schedule and there were some rough years in there.
As I’m not working, I much prefer a 2p quit and 4p dinner ?
Those were my hours for nearly 30 years. My favorite thing now is to sleep till I wake up naturally.
Doing great! Glad you are too.?Chergui definitely smells like fall.?
I am glad You are feeling less tired… I am feeling more tired today because my 2 year old decided she needs to sleep in my bed last night and even though she had a good amount of space on her side she kept pushing me off the bed. I mean several times I woke up almost fell off the bed while she threw her arms and legs on my side. She even bumped her head on mine. And lastly I woke up to a weird pinch in my toe and I woke up immediately thinking it was a spider!! Nope, it was just my little one next to my feet pinching my toes in her sleep!!
love pinches!
Yay very sweet but scary in my sleep love pinches!! ?
I’m more tired today. Maybe I’m just behind because I’m on west coast time? 😉
That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! 😉
yeah, me too.
You smell great!
Add me to the more tired than yesterday club. I’ve been tired all week but today takes the cake because I slept poorly and had to wake up earlier to start work an hour earlier than usual.
I’m at about the same level of tired as I was yesterday. Looks like this round of jet lag will take a little longer to fade away than previous ones.
Beautiful picture, Robin!
Trying to wear my summer perfumes the most I can, while temperatures are still warm and humid.
I am in Arielle Shoshana Saturday, which I love and I have forgotten about.
On my second cup of coffee with a dash of pumpkin pie spice and a challah roll.
Happy Wednesday! ?
Challah rolls! That sounds so good and I have not had challah in ages. Have a great day, PL67 🙂
I have discovered that there are no-knead recipes for nearly every kind of bread imaginable – including challah! It is easy-peasy and I made a ton of it this past spring.
I just pulled down the Zoe F no knead recipe from kitchn. It seems to be very popular! Thanks for the inspiration. ?
I tried the no knead basic recipe years ago, and still have the big buckets and Swedish stirring thingy. Sweet doughs have always been a challenge for me, so we’ll see how it goes.
Thank you, MossyBerry!
You always have the most delicious breakfasts.
Thank you! ?
I would not like to see that sky in person, but it is gorgeous!
Lol! I think it would be interesting!
You smell lovely! I have a decant of that one; it has the polished hajusuuri look about it. ?
Thank you, Nancy! ?
Too funny!
You smell wonderful! I hope the work drama has gone away!
Thank you. Things have calm down, for now!
Good morning! SOTD is Chanel Paris-Venise, which is pretty but gone within the hour. Making last minute Fantastic Fest arrangements today.
Just took a peek…I want to see some of those movies!
I’m in Shalimar Philtre de Parfum, which felt like the perfect choice for today. It is another gorgeous morning. A crisp 60 degrees with blue skies and not a cloud to be seen. I love it! It will warm into the mid 70’s.
Today marks the one year anniversary of my son and his gf leaving for utah. One week from today, I will be sitting drinking tea with him. I am so excited, I can hardly stand it.? I rearranged my work schedule to have off the entire time that he’s home. When I texted him that his response was *that will be just wonderful* lol. He doesn’t fool me, I know he’s excited too. The waiiiiiting is the hardest part.?
For kpaint and/or anyone else interested in my mom’s banana cake recipe:

2 or 3 ripe, mashed bananas
2/3 c buttermilk
2 eggs
Mix dry ingredients with oil and eggs. Add buttermilk, add bananas.
Bake at 350 for ~35 minutes for a 9×13 or 25-30 for two 9 inch rounds (depending on how hot your oven runs)
Chocolate frosting:
1 stick butter
1/3 c buttermilk
Cream together and gradually add
3 c powdered sugar
1/2 c Hershey’s unsweetened 100% cacao (the powdered kind)
1 tsp vanilla
Or, Buttercream frosting:
1/4 c butter
2 1/2 c powdered sugar
2+ Tablespoons cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
This is an easy recipe that turns out delicious every time. Report back if you try it!?
Yum! I want to try your recipe, you smell great, and enjoy your long-awaited visit!
Thanks irisjasmine!?
Thanks for sharing! This looks easy to convert to gluten-free! 🙂
Thank you!! I am going to try this soon! Have never added buttermilk to icing, but the combo sounds delicious.
I bet there will be more baking at your house for your son’s visit. Your mom’s recipe sounds great, thank you for sharing.
You smell wonderful, and I am adding this cake to the two yummy-sounding NST’ers’ scone recipes in my to be baked cue. I got out a new pound of butter from the freezer today…that’s progress, right?
Gorgeous day here too!
Thanks for sharing the recipe! I’ve screenshotted it and will halve the recipe since it’s just hubster and me. It looks delicious!
That cake looks delicious! It’s lovely to have something exciting to look forward to.
I’m in the wonderful CSP Vanille Café on a pleasantly coolish morning.
I need a bottle of that.
I am wearing Diptyque Vetyverio and drinking my second cup of spearmint tea.
You smell very nice!
At the office a work meeting. Luckily I still have an office with a door I can close to keep out potential Delta fumes. I forgot how annoying commuting is.
SOTD is JM Oolong Tea. Office appropriate but interesting, and will be gone by this evening, so I can pop into the mall on my way home to try a couple of testers. I get tobacco, honey, and tonka, all with a light touch, but mostly I get peach skin. Maybe from the hay? Reminds me of an introductory version of Mitsuko, but with some honey sweetness (although maybe I had better actually try it against Mitsuko before saying that out loud).
Hopefully people who want to continue to WFH can do so. It’s just about the only upside of this pandemic. Commuting (and being trapped in an office) are 2 of the worst downsides of working.
If you have a vent inside your office, you’re probably better off leaving your door open.
I’m wearing another discovery set fragrance, this time Bruno Fazzolari Zdravetz. This isn’t a favorite.
I do not love all of his, but the ones I love, I really love 🙂
Robin, which ones are your favorites these days?
Still Feu Secret and Lampblack! I think I am at least 2 or 3 behind now though.
SOTD is ll Vanille 44. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I smell great!
Yes you do! I love that one and have gone through way more of it than I ever thought I would.
that could happen!
Yep.
I’m in Amouage Gold Extrait. I thought certainly I could find a country song about gold, and I did, but I didn’t admire any of the results! Oh well, at least I smell great.
Lovely!
Morning all, my SOTD is Jour Ensoleille by Sonoma Scent Studio, a lovely golden chypre, perfect for today’s cooler weather. Trying to catch up on sleep, and feel slightly more rested this morning.
Throwing on the gym clothes and headed out. Busy day today and I have class tonight!
Robin, I love today’s picture, the colors are gorgeous! Isn’t it sad to hear about Norm Macdonald? It’s a surprise to hear but I’m glad he’s no longer suffering.
I have a sample of that, which I haven’t pulled out for forever. You’re inspiring me to go root around for that after the Incendo wears off!
You smell fabulous, which I can say given it’s one of my favorites!
Isn’t it lovely? I really adore this one, it’s on the all-time list for sure…
SOTD is La Curie Incendo, for Neko Case’s song “Hold On, Hold On” — “It’s the devil I love.” Nice bonus is that she used to live in Tucson, where La Curie is. Also from that song: “I left the party at 3 a.m., alone, thank God” — I will be spending the day working alone today (as always), and I think my colleagues probably wouldn’t appreciate the heavy smoke in this perfume, so they’re going to be thankful for that.
I’m also wearing my fox necklace, which fits the album this is on (“Fox Confessor Brings the Flood”). 🙂
I’m having fun with this CP…and didn’t think I’d be able to come up with anything. 😉
Wow, isn’t her voice gorgeous?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0vk5SGmw3w
She’s a force of nature! I adore her voice. She’s also an awesome human in general, from what I can tell from her Instagram feed, which is pretty real, not that sanitized.
Spent last night and this morning testing out Musc by Essential Parfum. I will say that this is not my cup of tea but the 10ml was cheap enough. I like my musk perfumes to be a little more slutty. Celebrating my birthday today and ordered Coromandel in extrait form last night. I have some explaining to do this quarter to Donnatella. After my shower, I think I will wear Epic.
Happy Birthday, Dawn! ?
Happy birthday!! Yay for the new purchase!! ??
WOW! Congrats on the bottle and Happy Birthday!
Oops wrong place ?
Happy Birthday, Dawn! There’s alot of September babies here.
Enjoy your new bottle!
Many happy returns.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Oh my! Happy Birthday. What a great gift!
Happy Birthday! And enjoy the new perfume!
Hope it is a great birthday Dawn!!
Happy Birthday and yay for your purchase
Happy Scented Birthday Dawn! ??? And congrats on your new bottle! ??
Happy birthday Dawn! Enjoy your fabulous new bottle! ?
Happy birthday, Dawn! Enjoy your new purchase!
Wonderful photo! I love photographing sunrise/sunset. Don’t usually make the sunrise unless I’m working, though. ?
Like many others, I’m feeling much better today! Thanks to all for the well wishes. Between the dog and myself we’ve not had a good couple of weeks. I hope I don’t have to see the inside of another medical facility (human or animal) until I go back to work next month.
I’m going Box of Eels today because it’s gentle and non-dominant. I need just a little waft of scent today, not a wall of chemicals blasting me.
BoE certainly doesn’t resemble any country song I’ve heard, but I still love this one:
https://youtu.be/Lq3Av1IA8rc
So gritty. So honest. So universal.
That photo is stunning! I’ve never seen a sky that color in person.
Not as dramatic as that photo, but still! That red is stunning! And very real..!
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CTi8ziIAKY3/?utm_medium=copy_link
I’m glad both you and T-Rex are on the mend. And of course you smell lovely!
Thank you!
BdI is always the perfect background music. Enjoy the hum.
I was in Box of Eels yesterday, the EdT.
I don’t have a back up after I thunked that one yesterday.
You smell so divine and blissful
Glad you and T-Rex are feeling better today!
I agree with you; that IS a gorgeous sky pic that Robin posted!
Enjoying Chanel Paris-Venise today. Now this is a perfume that I qualify as summery but I like to wear it also in the transition between summer/fall season.
Tomorrow I am off to the work party so I might not have time to pop up and say hi.
Love Venise! Good pick, Lucasai!
Enjoy the party! What perfume are you going to wear?
Was thinking of Amouage Boundless. A present perfume with a statement, a decadent tobacco on my skin.
Boundless sounds delicious!
Day three of onboarding at my new job and things are going well I think! Kind of funny doing all of this from home. SOTD is Ambra because it was chilly on my morning walk and I wanted to feel like I was wearing a sweater!
How nice, so glad it is going well!
Thank you!
SOTD: Cuir d’ange
I’ve missed this soft & comforting suede-centric scent. Hope my husband does too since I went heavy the number of sprays.
You smell great, Floragal!
Indeed!
I oversprayed that one time before work, thinking it would be light since it is so soft and powdery. It’s a powerhouse on me.
I’m in Fazzolari’s Monserrat because Allo and I talked about it the other day. Can’t think of any country music for this one, but I’m not very good at matching music/art with fragrances anyway. I can match with colors for sure. And this one is grapefruit colored – that pinky pale orange color, for the grapefruit, apricot and wet plaster/fresco notes.
We have a Pantone project coming up in October…so save that thought 😉
You smell lovely and citrusy!
Hello!
Nice cool day with a bit of sun and I am enjoying it.
Sotd is Rose Jam. All out of the shower gel must go buy more soon.
Currently drinking green rooibos.
You smell great!
Robin, thank you so much for that great song! And the photo…
I’m in Shalimar Philtre for what is expected to be a rainy day (in Georgia). It’s cozy and comforting for a very busy work day.
Isn’t that fantastic? I love how PLEASED Sam Moore is…
I think Conway Twitty died before the album came out.
I’m wearing Tiger’s Nest, and smelling like it should be very cold outside (which it isn’t). I’ve mentioned it before here, but this one reminds me so very much of Messe di Minuit, by Etro. Thankfully, I have two bottles of MdM, so I probably won’t ever have to throw down a few C-notes for the Tiger’s Nest.
Didn’t Laura Mercier have a Messe di Minuit as well? I remember hearing how good it was but I think it had already been discontinued by the time I started looking for it. I love those Etro bottles.
I don’t remember a Mercier one, which means absolutely nothing in the scope of things — my memory is mush. It could be because I’m not a huge make-up person, and I think she is more known for make-up. As I write that, I realize that I’m not even sure about that. I should just stop saying things. 🙂
Except to say that I, too, like the Etro bottles. They are tall enough to see in my cabinet, but wide enough that I don’t knock them over easily (I’m looking at my Lutens collection, which I have to place in a box for stability). And the caps on the Etro bottles are really pretty.
I think Mercier was Minuit Enchantee.
Ahhh, I see! Thanks for the clarification!
Hey, saw a new bottle on the bay for a mere 299.99! Guess I’ll give it a pass…
Thanks for the report – the Tiger’s Nest bottle is so lovely, I have sometimes been tempted. But after a wearing of my sample of MdM which you shared, I, cough, foundandboughtafullbottleofit! Messe de Minuit is so in my wheelhouse and I too love the Etro bottles. So I will continue only to admire Tiger’s Nest from afar. I don’t know about a Laura Mercier one, but I don’t know much about her house either.
Huzzah – I finally get an enabler pin!
Messe di Minuit is gorgeous, glad you found a bottle.
In another sweet confection today, Acqua e Zucchero by Profuma Roma. This one is pure spun sugar. Casting about for a country tune to match, I’m falling back on another by Hank Williams (I know I said I find many of his songs too sad, but here’s another exception from the master) song, ‘Setting the Woods on Fire.’ I dare you not to smile when listening to this cupcake! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lD7q0y3hUI
Robin, Just read your intro. I love that album, Rhythm, Country and Blues. I forgot all about it. I had it on repeat when it came out. I was living in NYC, but that album was on my life’s soundtrack.
I still have most of the album on my iPod 🙂
Had never heard that Hank Williams song, ever, so thanks! You be daffy I’ll be dilly…
I can say the name of your perfume all day..
Starting back up my Italian lessons soon.
I might sound completely ignorant but I’ve yet to find a country song I like. Unfortunately I like music more up beat.
SotD = MH Noix de Tuberose.
Really love this powdery marzipan of a tuberose. The tuberose alone in Noix reminds me a little bit of a SL favorite: Cedre.
I am going to seek this out. Sounds wonderful.
Do a lot of MH offerings tend to be powdery? I’ve not smelled much from that brand (it can be hard to get samples in the US) but I love Fleur Oriental because of the intense powder. There was another MH I looked into a while back because it promised powder but I don’t recall the name just now…
I promise You what I am wearing today, which is MH Noix De Tuberose has mucho powder in it!! And it has a great lasting power.
But to answer the question is that a lot of them aren’t powdery but citrusy.
Ah, thank you!
I am wearing Carthusia (something about) The Park from a free sample and not at all enjoying it. It went way masculine cologne-spicy on me and also has some aroma chemical(s) that go sideways on me. Am going to shower shortly, so ? that it’ll go down the drain.
I turned 50 this year, and while that’s only tangentially the cause, I have really been feeling like a techno-dino in the past few months. There are so many things I don’t know how to do on my phone, like use a QR code or any form of social media or watch youtube, and I really don’t care to learn how because I really don’t give a bleep, it just makes me feel old. I activated my old (and never-used) twitter account the other day specifically to follow the NASA Wallops Island account because we live nearby and apparently that’s the only way to know when they’re launching rockets. But now I’m being bombarded with tweets from celebrities and politicians. Who are NOT talking about rocket launches. WTH. Done.
In the words of Stevie Wonder, amiga, “Don’t you worry ’bout a thing.” More and more, it’s turning out that keeping up with (and obsessing about) all of that stuff is not that healthy. I’ve about had it with trying to unsubscribe from email notifications that I never signed up for in the first place, and I’ll be nursing my iPhone 6S until it will no longer hold a charge.
Five years from now, you’ll be vindicated after we learn that following twitter accounts is causally linked to high cortisol levels.
Srsly, I spend half my life unsubscribing from email lists ?
Seems like the negative health effects of social media etc are pretty well documented. I’ve never had any interest, so have always abstained. I feel a little bit out of the loop sometimes and am always grateful for that.
There are ways to only see tweets from accounts you follow, and also just the tweets and not the retweets…but I get that you may not care to adjust your twitter experience 🙂
Robin, thank you for all the versions of A rainy night in Georgia, I only knew the Brook Benton one which has happy associations of Sunday mornings in NYC listening to Light FM.
Was in SD Vanori today but this evening wearing Weil Suki Essence, a sweet incense with dates and plum, I have no other scent quite like it.
I do love the Brook Benton one — for many years it was the only one I knew 🙂
Ooh, the Weil sounds like a perfect autumnal fragrance!
%#@!! Meant to post to Aurora. See above re: not being able to use my $#*@ing phone ?
Yes, kpaint, it’s really yummy, just enough sweetness and very unique, I agree perfect for fall, hope the phone issues will solve themselves out ?
Don’t worry, they won’t! ?
The MH sounds lovely.
Greetings all! I am in Southeastern Michigan for work for the week, and only have two perfumes with me, neither of which are even remotely tied to any country music–Vanille Insensee and Jil Sander #4. I’m in the Vanille Insensee today.
I thought I wasn’t really a country music fan, but then thinking about it was able to come up with a bunch of songs I like, especially from Kenny Rogers, and some bluegrass from Seldom Scene.
Hope the trip is going well, missionista!
I don’t think of myself as a country music fan either but I could easily do a month of songs, so maybe I am, ha.
Iris Torréfié
When I first tried this I didn’t like it, but now I have come full circle
Is this discontinued by the way?
https://youtu.be/X2vK9-Ov5hk
I don’t think so – but I haven’t verified everything that transferred from the old collections to the new bottles.
You smell great! Quite sure this one is not discontinued.
Definitely not, they gave me samples at Guerlain of this from the new collection when I went to panick buy soon to be discontinued scents. With Bois d Armenie and Herbes Troublantes.
I ended up with Madamoiselle Guerlain and Le Plus Beau Jour de ma Vie. And a hole in my bank account!
They have a limited amount of perfumes from this new Art et la Matiere in their website, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s another commercial strategy to amp up the interest factor.
Saks has a pop-up that opened this past Monday and it had the full suite of perfumes and accoutrements.
Bergdorf Goodman will have a pop-up shop as well with the new goodies.
I am back in San Diego and exhausted after an unspeakable flight yesterday. I will not be flying again any time soon, if ever.
Came home to a mountain of packages, wearing Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa. It is 95% santal and 5% rosa, totally unisex.
Tell me more about your SOTD!!! This is the new one!!! yay.
Did you sample the other new one?
Do vent about your flight. How was it? I haven’t traveled anywhere in forever. Maybe your experience will make me have it stay that way…
I am now testing Rose Cherie vs. French Kiss, since people were saying RC is the reworked version of FK. I find them quite different, RC is more tart fresh rose without sweetness, FK is much more sweet gourmand.
Oh, and about the flight – they are telling people to show up 3 hours early(!). Of course you have to wear the mask the whole time you are in the airport and in the plane. I had a 4 hour layover due to a schedule change by the airline, then the connecting flight was delayed. The plane was a tiny claustrophobic Bombardier jet, we were packed in like sardines and it was very hot, plus I was suffocating in the mask. My poor dog was overheated and crying under the seat. When we finally arrived I had a migraine and ran for the exit to rip the mask off. Never again.
Ugh, that stinks. And hearing your experience makes me even more certain that canceling a trans-Atlantic work trip next month was a good call. There are drawbacks to not making the trip but I’ll deal.
Flying hasn’t been fun for a long time, but now with the reduced revenues, airlines are using the smallest planes they can get away with and filling them to the max to increase profits. Makes things even more unpleasant due to the very steep pitch between seats.
Yay, glad to hear you’ve arrived safely. Enjoy all your packages, and yes, do tell us all about the new Guerlain when you’re settled in!
See comment above to LTSG!
Waving from cloudy and cool BC. Glad you made it but it sounds like it was horrific! At least you have some fun packages to go through.
It’s Christmas in September!
Uggghhh. At least it’s all over for now. Enjoy some much deserved relaxation and rest.
I assume the troubles were due to flying from Canada to the US?
We are going to Ottawa next weekend, but flying to the closest American airport to the border, then renting a car and driving across. Nevertheless, the whole process is completely stressing me out. We’re going to get 2 covid tests at hrs 72 and 48 and hope that one will give us a timely thumbs up before we board the plane, and that the other’s still live once we hit the border. ?
But that beats the 3-leg 10 hour travel time by air to go a distance that would take 12 hours of driving and would cost $800 per person ?
See my reply to LTSG about the flight. When we return to Canada it will be by car. I would rather spend two days driving than ever fly again.
Canada is a pain for the Covid test, they will only accept PCR which is time-consuming and costly. Fortunately the US accepts the 30 minute antigen test that costs 1/3 the price.
Ya, and you can do those tests from home with a 15 minute turnaround ?
Gah, hopefully we won’t have similar travel woes on the 2 puddle jumpers we’ll be on ?
Cheers to getting to Diego ?
Did you like it, cazaubon?
BTW I share your sentiment towards planes… and it is tough when you live in an island and your family doesn’t!
Enjoy your packages!!
You mean the Santal Pao Rosa? Yes I do like it, as I enjoy sandalwood a lot, and this one is very easy to wear and will likely be good layered together with the Rose Cherie.
As for Rose Cherie, I am not a big fan of tart rose so the opening is my least favorite part, but as it dries down it gets closer to French Kiss. I do prefer French Kiss.
Thanks! Yes, I meant Santal Pao Santo. I also love good sandalwood. I briefly smelt this but can’t wait to properly sample it! Maybe this weekend 🙂
Yuck and Double Yuck about your flight! That sounds utterly horrible. Wish I could have sent you some of my recent good flying vibes.
Ugh, flight sounds awful, but so glad you are back. Hope everything will be peaceful now, for a good long time.
You and me both! Thanks for the welcome back. I literally sobbed with relief for 15 minutes when I got into my house.
Glad you are back!
So sorry about the trip. It sounds awful.
Thank you! It was horrid but so glad to be here.
Wearing Safran Troublant today. It doesn’t make me think of any specific country song, but “troublant” could certainly be a mood in some country song!
You smell marvelous. ST is one of my favorite L’Artisan fragrances. It’s the first bottle I ever purchased from the line — I fell in love with it.
I love this!
Here’s one
https://youtu.be/DRxREwK-xNA
Perfect! What a fun song!
OJ Champaca from my travel spray split. I need to go heavier on this. Only did a few spritzes since I was joining others this am.
My dear friend who is visiting brought me a set of Hermès soaps from the Jardin series. Can’t wait to use them.
Hoping to do lunch at the local ice cream joint. We are doing a scenic boat ride tomorrow for her birthday, followed by dinner at the local Tapas place. Friday night we plan to go to a fish boil. Gotta get all the local things in…she’s had apple cider donuts, whitefish (bath fresh and smoked), fried cheese curds, Swedish pancakes with lingonberries. I have Culver’s frozen custard waiting in the freezer…. Not sure I’ll be able to persuade her to have a brat…
Did you say ice cream!? 🙂
What a lovely gift!
I could not convince myself to eat lake fish during my time in the midwest but we did eat lots of brats! ☺
You sound like a top notch host! Scenic boat rides are my favorite way to see an unfamiliar place.
It’s funny. My husband grew up here but doesn’t eat brats. I like them. I like perch sandwiches.
I’m in Timbuktu today for the soothingness of it. Thanks everyone for your kind comments yesterday — this continues to be such a warm and wonderful community and such a source of comfort in difficult times.
Spent the morning working in the woods and avoiding the contract documents and lawyers waiting in my inbox, thanks to a colleague who was willing to pick me up and drive me out there while I wait for my car’s return. If only I could have built a little hut and stayed out there…
Oh, Timbuktu is great!!
So glad you were able to get a little respite in the woods today, and you were well scented for it too!
First day in the office after a month of working from home, looking forward to the change of scenery. I’ve chosen Tobacco Vanille to celebrate the occasion.
You smell great! I am looking forward to Tobacco Vanille this winter.
Gorgeous photo!
I am in the magnificence that is Sintra with hajusuuri-level sprays today!
Watched the first episode of Finding Alice on Acorn…a happy diversion. Also started listening to the Murdaugh Murders podcast…rather sensational as podcasts are 😉 but awfully entertaining…?
You smell nice!
I am in a sample of MFK Grand Soir. I am not into music so alas no songs to compare. I might get a travel spray of this one.
It’s so nice!
You smell great!
I had to pull out a long-sleeved shirt today since it seems as though Fall has arrived. Will have to bring my tomatoes inside if the sun doesn’t come out in the next few days; I was wanting to leave them as long as possible on the vine. And I saw a bee still huffing on my flowers so those will remain in the planters until it gets much colder out.
Wearing Azuree today.
I had a favorite aunt who always wore Azuree. You smell great.
Thank you, ringthing! I wear it so infrequently that I forgot how nice it is.
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/oK9gLkXe0xw
Another one that requires Kleenex and/or hankies. Not a country song, but this has been on my mind a lot lately.
SO muggy today, yuck! Also in that weird headspace where you aren’t quite synced in with the local time. Not sure which time zone my brain feels its in, though…
SOTD = L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer, from the sample stash.
PS. Belated thanks to Sapphire and Sam for your comments last night!
It was humid and hot as hell here earlier. A storm is moving in and cooling things off, though.
Just a couple of hours of time change can really do a number on a body. Trauma and grief compounds it as well. Good to hear that you’re back to perfuming.
I tend to go commando when I travel by air. I have noticed that I don’t like one of my favorite body butters from The Body Shop anymore, since I wore that a lot during the last 2 months of my Mom’s life. That’s been the only scent casualty that I know of.
I wore Cuir Beluga almost exclusively the time around my Dad’s passing but thankfully did not associate it with that time.
I ended up reading comments late yesterday; glad you are back home. Sending you hugs, Jalapeno; it’s been a very busy and emotional time for you and your brother. Remember to be kind to yourself.
I was only outside to pick up the mail and throw out the garbage. In the meantime, the county came to drill down the sidewalk slab to the right of my kitchen window AND after 30 minutes of drilling, they left but then came back to cover the sidewalk with cement. Here’s hoping it won’t crumble like the previous one!
Sending you lots of good vibes and hugs as you come down from this very stressful time.
I’m in two spritzes of Chanel Paris-Edimbourg and one spritz of Paris-Biarritz shared between wrists. I’ve refreshed a couple of times today and I don’t mind at all!
Going with the flow today…cleaned the bathrooms and made some energy bites for the hubster. He’s going in for a stress test tomorrow and needs snacks for the break time. Need to take the Wild One for a walk sometime today. The dog park is still muddy from the rain and she definitely needs to move. As do I.
Sorting out bottles for the swap meet. I’ve gone through all of my cool weather scents and have (somewhat) ruthlessly culled the herd. The meh bottles must go.
My ? bottles = someone else’s ? bottles!
Oh wow, the swap meet is this Saturday, I need to get my act together!! Lots of bottles to go through.
Good luck to your husband tomorrow!
Thanks lillyjo! ??
Good luck to hubby. I hope you and the wild one got your walk in!
Rain all day here today, including an early afternoon thunderstorm that led to the same thunderclap and its accompanying bolt of lightning appearing on eight Zoom screens just after I saw it through my window. (All of us are in the same town but meeting remotely.)
Paris-Deauville again today, although now the weather would better suit something autumnal. Will try something different tomorrow. And yeah, I am still tired. And my students are barely scraping themselves up off the floor.
I’m multi-scented after going to Selfridges after work to disconnect and walk around the fragrance section.
I tried Chloe Naturelle-it’s mainly a mimosa perfume, quite soft and innocent. Reminded me of Iris Perle Les Indemodables in fact.
Also sprayed Honor Woman (nice white floral) and another Amouage with no name in the bottle, but I think was Jubilation XXV woman. Can’t stop sniffing myself. I used to find amouages too much for me but clearly my taste has changed.
My SOTD was l’Heure Bleue EDP + Cuir Beluga. L’Heure Bleue is becoming one of my favourite scents. I used to have the EDT, but I think I prefer the EDP.
I prefer the edp of L’Heure Bleue too. I am definitely going to try that layering!
I’m wearing Gallagher Rose all Dae today, thanks to the lovely Pl67?
I am matching it to Paper Rose’s by Marie Osmond. She’s a little bit Country! Lol

R.I.P Norm.
That’s a great match!
SOTD = Frederic Malle Synthetic Jungle
Not synthetic smelling at all. I got green, jasmine, other floral notes, light patch and vetiver (this last one not mentioned in Fragrantica). My nose could be broken or I am smelling little bits of what it does have but not in a quantity large enough to warrant being listed. It is travel spray size worthy for sure, even the 30mL version.

I was going to get together with friends this Saturday but one of the group is trying to schedule time with her niece who’s moving to California. Here I am thinking that she was talking about a little girl but this “girl” is now 24! Ha!
I want to try Synthetic Jungle but doubt any place in San Diego has it. May need to make a run to South Coast Plaza up in Orange County. I have Nordie notes to spend. 🙂
