It's Tuesday and National Beer Lovers Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando for a quick doctor appointment this morning, and drinking a cup of Upton Season's Pick Jin Jun Mei black tea.
Reminder: 9/10 is Karl Lagerfeld's birthday. Wear a Karl Lagerfeld fragrance, or a fragrance from his stints at other fashion houses (Chloe, Chanel, etc). Or, wear a fragrance he wore (scroll down, although I am sure he wore other fragrances as well...feel free to investigate).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the K/Ikonik Takeaway Mug ("Karl and Choupette are along for the ride on this playful takeaway coffee mug.") is €49 at Karl.
Good Morning ☀️
Dropped the kids off at their first day of school. 2nd and kindergarten
Peace and quiet at home
Reading Sally Rooney’s new book
SOTD with the CP will be Boy
Looking over at BdJ perfume blog article on perfume trends. Interesting about citrus . Has anyone smelled Valentino Donna Born in Roma Yellow Dream? She mentions it and I am curious
Enjoy the quiet.
?
Ahhh, first day of school is always exciting! I bet they will have stories when they come home. 🙂
Enjoy the new book!
I will! I am a fan of her writing
Enjoy your day! Exciting for the kiddos.
Do let us know how the book is — I’ve been circling it, along with the new Lauren Groff.
I’m jealous of the kindergarten start — do the kids just go in straight away for the full day? We do a 3-week gradual entry for the kindies here — a neighbour with a kindie reminded me of that this weekend. Let’s just say I don’t remember those 3 weeks fondly. 😀
oh my ltsg! I remember when baby buddha first arrived!
Yay for school! And where oh where does the time go?
I tried the Yellow Dream but was not a fan…smelled synthetic and unoriginal to me.
Hi all! My sotd is Zoologist Hummingbird. Not a fan of Karl but that cup is perfect for the CP.
Isn’t it?
(I am neither a fan nor a not-fan…I pay very little attention to fashion and most of what little I know about Karl I learned in a New Yorker profile some years ago.)
Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon. No particular reason, it just jumped out of the cabinet at me. Almond patchouli amber: can’t go wrong with that.
Haven’t heard of this one ☝️ Tell me more
As ever, I don’t know what a new bottle on the store shelves is like, because things do get reformulated, but when it was created in 2003, it was a warm, plush, creamy oriental with amaretto in the top, some irrelevant flowers in the middle (you wouldn’t call it a floral — gardenia is there but it doesn’t overwhelm), and lots of benzoin plus patchouli in the base. It’s entirely unisex, and sort of reminiscent of Bulgari Omnia. The bottle’s gorgeous, too, a very restrained Chinoiserie with a black dagger piercing the liquid.
Hmmm…intriguing scent.
I haven’t worn that in too long, you smell great!
Mon Precieux Nectar – probably the sweetest perfume I wear regularly….chilly here this morning – I have on a pink fleece and a black fleece bomber hat because my hair is wet and my head is cold. Fall is coming.
Wow, that is cold! I guess I will be in Prada Candy before I know it, right?
yes, a cute cup! Satori for what I hope will be a non chaotic day at work.
I am late, but hope it was a calm day apsara!
Good morning all, and rest in peace Michael K. Williams, I loved his work in The Wire (Omar) and Boardwalk Empire (Chalky White).
My SOTD is Coco by Chanel, EDP. 🙂
On cup of coffee #2, about to head out the door for a three mile walk and a gym workout. I spent too much time eating this three-day weekend. Oof.
I just started reading Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth by Noa Tishby. I can’t put it down, it’s so good!
Sounds like a good read ? If we lived in the same coast I would say let’s start a perfume/book club
I always thought Burma was the most misunderstood country on earth.
We went to Myanmar 5 years ago. We thank our lucky stars we went when we did. It was beautiful, cities are bustling, countryside not much changed in 100 years. Best memory, our guides friend was getting married and she wanted to stop in at the reception. We were invited along, apparently a very common practice so not so weird. The couple and their families couldn’t have been more gracious. We had tea and little cakes, chatted with others, had our photo taken with the couple!! And had a grand time. Trekking through the remote countryside and overnighting at farms or monasteries are another highlight, although I never want to see another squat toilet again!
I went for the first time in 1986 and took the train to Mandalay as there were no planes or phones or much of anything. Pagan had no running water and was still called Bagan.
Shortly thereafter the country was shut down.
I was able to take my sister in 2013 when Burma’s’ generals appeared to make some changes.
It is the most beautiful, mysterious and heartbreaking country I have been to. I am glad to find someone else who has traveled there!
What a marvelous memory! And how fun to be part of the festivities!
I have several coworkers from Burma, and hearing their stories and memories is simply amazing.
One coworker had a restaurant, and was kind enough to share some of her recipes with me. It’s on my list of places I must visit. 🙂
Oh you smell wonderful, SmokeyToes! My vintage bottles of Coco are going fast, have you tried the latest one? I can’t get anywhere to sample it. I’m sure it’s not the same glorious perfume but I have Ulta points to spend and am thinking of buying a new bottle.
I like the newer Coco but I don’t know if it’s full bottle worthy. I have a ton of the lotion to work through, which is glorious.
Thanks! Chanel body products are so luxurious.
Good luck at the doctor’s, Robin!
Am in a “get stuff done” mood today. Got up early and wrote an essay for school, worked out, and am halfway through the laundry. I just read yesterday’s comments and I see I am not alone in wondering how one person can produce so much laundry. . . In other news, I found the cap for my bottle of La Chasse, which has been missing for months, under my bed today. I am now horrified by my lack of housekeeping skills.
I am going to go put on sunscreen and hang out on the porch with a textbook. Wearing Histoire’s 1899.
Went fine, thanks! Very jealous of your get-stuff-done mood, I have had relatively little of that lately, yet have so much to do!
But do not be horrified! You did find it, after all, in a matter of months…from my perspective, that is not bad. Do you really want to spend time cleaning under your bed every week when there are so many other more enjoyable things to do? Like hanging out on the porch with a textbook, even 🙂
Bal d’Afrique from a sample I’ve been kind of hoarding. I think this is my favorite Byredo. I guess Karl’s kitty didn’t like it, so he stopped wearing it. No reaction so far from my girl.
And it works on this rainy morning. Was woken up by the husband’s early alarm…he had a breakfast 3 towns north of us. Big flash outside, distant rumble and the wind kicked up. Squall went through for about an hour…lots of flashes and thunder (not horribly loud.) I was very cozy. Heard from my husband that he had to take back roads. Both main roads had trees down.
About to attempt putting up a bed frame in guest room. ??
Does Agnes kitty ever react to any of your perfumes?
Not really. She doesn’t seem to like it when I wash my hands. She must not like our soap.
Hello!
Sotd is Bee and wearing it heavily too. Weather is starting to cool off a bit here so I can start “strongly” perfuming myself again. So excited. ?
Cheers to that! It cooled off here a week or two ago and I went straight for the stronger perfumes. 🙂
Wearing Ariana Grande Cloud. I am surprised how much I like. It is nice and comfy and the small bottle is pretty cute. I layered it with Alien last night and I agree with some of you here that it makes a nice dupe for BR540. 540 never worked for me, so I will enjoy Cloud by itself when I need a no brainer scent.
Having my second cup of coffee with a moon cake ?
Happy Tuesday!
I like Cloud too. Don’t need a bottle but I always spritz a bit when I get a chance.
I am clearly going to have to get over to Ulta and smell Cloud.
It is worth trying! Let us know what you think about it.
What is a moon cake?
Is a traditional Chinese dessert that is eaten during the mid-auttumn
festival.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooncake
And the ones with double and triple duck egg yolks are the best!
Thanks for cluing me in!
I don’t know what moon cake is either. Hope it was a good day!
See my answer to Jalapeno above.
Eau de 34 for what is supposed to be the last 90 degree day of the year. Ready for fall!
Done with that then! I hope we are not going to get any more…just weeks and weeks of mid-70s 🙂
Still feeling out of sorts and grumpy. Wearing Ysatis, which is sort of working for me.
I hope you re-center soon!
Really sorry Oakland Fresca.
Spent time in Tobacco Vanille this morning and now in Eau Premiere for work. Wanted something not so demanding.
Santal Kardamon today. Feeling lazy but I have things to do.
Same here! (on the lazy + to-do-list)
Eating Raisin Bran with a banana, sipping scalding coffee, and listening to the TOOT, TOOOOOT of ship horns in the strait while wafting a cloud of Naja.
A bit chilly this morning but the sun is blasting. Promises to be a beaut of a day.
Happy Tuesday to all ?
And hope it turned out that way Deva!
I’m CP-compliant in 31, rue Cambon.
First day of school here, too — though no peace, quiet or calm as for some inexplicable reason the first day of school lasts for 2 hours. As if none of us work and we can just pick up and drive back across the city to pick up the kid at school 2 hours later. I’m sure there’s some good teacher reason for it, but it feels like a holdover from the days of neighbourhood schools and parents (well, mothers) at home.
Just have to push through…morning meetings from the car, then back to back all afternoon at home. And maybe we’ll have three trades all tripping over each other in the kitchen today…or maybe no one will show up. Hard to tell; the designer’s been incommunicado.
??♀️As a teacher, I see no reason for just two hours. But I work with high school students, and maybe it’s different for the younger kids? At any rate, happy first day of school!
Today’s perfume is a sample that I found at the bottom of my perfume stash. It is unlabeled and I have no clue what it is but it smells delicious. It’s a bit smoky and cinnamony. I’m not even sure where I got this sample from which is going to make finding out what it is impossible. So I guess I will just enjoy it while I can, like an ephemeral Autumn breeze!
Ooh, it sounds lovely!
Sorry, not on the CP train yet.
Wearing an old favourite for our cool spring night here in Sydney.
L’Eau d’Ambre by L’Artisan. Simple, sweet, amber.
Have a good day everyone.
Portia x
Interesting. I tried the Extreme version of the L’Artisan amber, and it was dry as a bone on me. Different strokes for different folks!
Ah! That is interesting Jalapeño,
I tend to skew things a little sweeter than most. Mine is an old bottle of the original, they well may have changed the formula over the years. Plus it’s been sitting there macerating and oxidising.
Portia x
Hey all! I’m wearing remnants of the 5 Bulgari (or is it really Bvlgari, with a V?) minis I impulse-bought yesterday. I was at Macy’s looking at sofas, and stopped by the perfume counters after. I asked if they had any other mini sets besides the one I saw, which included Omnia Cristalline but not the original Omnia, and the SA handed me a box with 5 minis. I thought it included the original Omnia, but nope! I also asked if they were sprayers, and she said she thought so, but no, they’re all dabbers, and the tops on all the Omnia flankers are really hard to remove. I may decant them into sprayers. Anyway, the ones included are Omnia Cristalline, Amethyst, and Coral, and Rose Goldea and Rose Goldea Blossom Delight. I actually like the Coral; I don’t have many fruity florals. And I kinda like the Rose Goldea ones too. We’ll see.
Nah, the ‘V’ is just there to make it look all ancient-Rome-y and stuff.
Haha! Those curved letters are so hard to carve… using computers.
I think the original Omnia is discontinued.
Aw darn. No wonder. I guess its children live on!
You can still find the original at discounters. Highly recommend it because it seems to please a wide variety of folks who may have very different perfume preferences. I think it’s a unicorn ? in that respect.
I think you’re enabling a purchase–it sounds lovely!
I was one of the few people who couldn’t smell much of anything from the original Omnia. So I figured I would put in a cautionary word…
Okay, thanks! I won’t blind-buy it unless it’s super cheap.
I broke the top of an Omnia mini that I was trying to open the wrong way. They need a diagram, or a video.
I’m in a bit of Cristalle EDT this morning while waiting for my pharmacy to confirm a prescription is ready for pickup. Spent yesterday in Eau des Merveilles, and enjoyed it so much that I added some L’Ambre des Merveilles at bedtime. Smelled so good I wanted to drink it!
You smelled great yesterday AND today!
Grabbed an old sample of Velvet Orchid–I guess I liked it enough to ask for a Sephora sample years ago but it’s a bit cloying for my current tastes. Driving lesson number 4 then my husband’s best friend will arrive for a few days stay. It will be a busy few days
Good luck with the driving!
Hope that your driving lessons are going well!
Good luck with the driving, and have fun hosting!
SOTD = Kilian Love don’t be shy Extreme
Just what the gorgeous day ordered! I am in the office today.

In other news, and this is just me being petty, Whole Foods sells organic figs, which I buy every chance I get. Last Saturday, someone got to the section ahead of me and begun to TOUCH.EVERY.SINGLE.FIG! Squeezing here and there to come up with her one lone pint of figs. First of all, I hope she realized that it is sold by the weight and not by the container. Second of all, she ruined it all for me so I walked away empty-handed. Ugh!
Oh, and here’s what I got muled from me from France:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CTf9llMD_IO/?utm_medium=copy_link
That Nina Ricci is most definitely EXTRA rouge! Such an intense red.
It was redder than red lips and it was not flocked at all!
Good to know! Would like a mini review once you wear it.
I think most veggies and fruits are thoroughly “touched” by many, many people if they are not bulk packaged. A good rinse with soap and water is probably all that’s needed. Please don’t deny yourself those delicious figs! ?
I actually peel them as well but the squeezing left a lot to be desired!
Oh, got ya!
Bruised figs would make me grumpy, too.
OTOH, I am looking forward to hearing more about your latest goodies from Paris!
I will report back on them!
Oh, wow – those are gorgeous scents!
They are different for sure!
I ordered the Vanille Diorama as well. Love that shiny red NR bottle!
I chose Orange Sanguine for a sunny day and a bike to work. Must use those last nice days before the rainy season starts again.
How nice!
Wearing Vetiver Tonka today, for a slightly cooler than summer, but still totally gorgeous day.
Took a long bike ride with Mr. Missionista yesterday for Labor Day, and it was wonderful. Hard to be back in the office today…
I almost did not want to return to the office after picking up lunch!
I’m wearing Hue by Hayley Kiyoko — super bright and cheerful, which is definitely needed today.
I read an article titled “The New Puritans” this morning in The Atlantic, by Anne Applebaum, which I thought was well-written, thought-provoking, and unsettling. For those interested in a balanced take on the new mob culture, it’s a good read.
Nice choice. Hope you get this happy vibes soon!
Thanks for the tip on the article, too.
Excellent article. It’s amazing to me how offended some are by an idea or thought they don’t personally agree with. And how some people choose to publicly shame (or worse) the holders of those different ideas. Raised in a household that encouraged differing ideas and perspectives, it’s especially hard to watch this happen everywhere these days.
Not familiar with your SOTD, but quite sure it’s outstanding. ✌?
Agreed — I sent the article off to a colleague of mine (we’re both professors at a small community college) who recently gave me her Notorious RBG t-shirt, because she was nervous about potentially offending people.
That is just sad…! ?
✌back at ya.
I miss comedy so much Deva.
Oh gosh, me too! ?
I wasn’t familiar with Your perfume nor with the person of that name… Googled Hailey Kiyoko and her perfume and still wasn’t familiar.
Me, either, frankly! I attended a Sniffa event with her perfume featured, and that’s the only reason I would ever really know her name (I’m way long in the tooth to be her target audience, outside of perfume-land).
I like the fragrance, though — it’s really bright and cheerful, and sheer (kinda like an effervescent Hermessence).
Sounds good!
In the 70s and desperately need to clean up the yard. I will toss on some patchouli oil to keep the bugs at bay.
Weekend poll was a great read! A few people chose my favorite note, patchouli, and yes, I do wear the oil like a hippie a lot. So many beautiful patchoulis and I love the dirty ones. My scrubber was Borneo, like another poster mentioned. I should try it again.
Happy Tuesday!
Do you really need to clean the yard, though? Maybe what you really need is a spritz of patchouli perfume and a slice of springpansy’s peach-coconut cake….
Everyone’s invited!
Thanks! Cool whip?
Honest. Only yardwork I actually did was cutting and weeding. O and I dug up some bush or weed that became a bush.
Just because they were in my ? path. She can’t see so good and nights are tough. I’d chop the ? if it helped her?.
Peach-coconut cake, you say?
The weather decided it would get warm at last, we’ve had cool weather for the last three weeks, so for today I chose a cologne, R&G Fleur d’Osmantus and tonight it’s Kelly Calèche.
We have been weather opposites. It’s cooling down here after 3 weeks of heat and humidity. Enjoy the warmth ?
And enjoy your cool weather Lillyjo.
Glad to hear that you are finally getting a taste of summer weather!
Thank you Jalapeno, it’s a nice change.
Today it’s Berdoues Peng Lai for me.
SotD = The Time. My back up arrived today 🙂 no issues with this delivery. I smell tealicious!! The Time is kept in a similar atmosphere as Winter Palace. Both aromatic teas with yummi citrus in the top notes. Both spicy yet fresh. Love them both now is THE TIME to get a bottle of Winter Palace as well:)
Congrats on your new bottle!
Forgot to mention (or rather got distracted by an arrival of a package and wafting of my The Time) both my Mom and I got haircuts today, bought some lingerie and pjs, and went BIG grocery shopping. We always buy way more at the grocery store!!
Sounds fun!
Good morning, another day working from home. We’re getting our Delta outbreak under control, but we’re not back to the office yet. I think this morning will be a dab of Chergui, from a miniature I got in the Palais Royal in Paris – hard to believe that was 6 years ago!
Did the kitty come back? Also, Chergui is so good!
Wearing Coco Mademoiselle L’Eau in the white canister. This one has a surprisingly persistent sillage. As the day progresses and I get distracted by work, I wonder a few times…mmm, what smells so good?…where is that coming me from?…then I come back to the moment, sniff my forearm and remember…oh right…it’s me! ?
Remembering and missing my Mom on her birthday today. ?
Do you get much patch from this, She-ra (like the original)?
And hugs for missing your mom. August 4 was my father’s birthday; he’s been gone for many years, but I always think of him on his day. Likewise, I will remember my mom on October 13th, her birthday.
Thanks and hugs right back to you!
Yes, there is definitely some patchouli still. I scoff at some of the reviews on Fragrantica saying there is none. 😉
Hugs, She-ra.
I get it. My own Mom’s birthday will be a melancholy one for me this year, too.
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Sending you hugs, She-ra. I missed my Mom on her birthday. And my birthday was on Sunday, so I was a bit off-kilter then too,
Glad your sotd is smelling so good!
Thanks, Gail and happy belated birthday!
Thank you, She-ra.
Happy belated birthday!
A big hug for you She-ra?
Thank you, lillyjo.
Big hugs to you.
Thank you, sistine!
I hope the C.M.L’eau is soothing and positive – sending you a big hug!
Thanks, Merlin.
Big hugs, She-ra.
It’ll be 9 years this year my mother went Home. Last year I did something different. I invited a friend who loved my mother dearly to come and celebrate her with me. My friend didn’t have a mother quite like mine and my mother just took her in.
If you miss your mom when she’s gone, you have been Blessed by having a wonderful mother.
Please share stories about your mom when you feel up to it. She created this amazing vanilla perfume craving woman who brings much joy here.?
Thank you so much, AnniePerfumes. Your sweet words brought tears to my eyes. ❤️ Big hugs to you. A mother’s love is irreplaceable. ?
Di Ser Mizu sample for a lovely and subtle yuzu/herbal fragrance. Perfect for an island of calm in a crazy workday sea.
Oh that does sound nice!
Thunked a decant of Violaceum by L’Artisan today. I showered with my new (well, new to my shower as it waited it’s turn in my closet for the last many months) Korres Violet shower gel, so it felt right to wear a violet perfume afterwards. Absolutely recommendnthe shower gel to violet lovers. It also lingers on skin for a while after the shower.
I definitely shed a few tears for Michael K. Williams yesterday. What a shock and what a talent, gone too soon. Maybe it’s time for a rewatch of The Wire, one of the best tv series ever, in my opinion. He was also fantastic as a guest star in Community season three.
Thanks for the rec, I would love a violet shower gel!
OH — I thought I did not know MKW because I did not see the wire, but I did see Community 3, and yes, he was really funny. I’m glad you mentioned that.
Wearing Vol de Nuit today. It ended up being quite warm so I will reapply after the sun has gone down.
Hey… Happy Belated Birthday!
Aww, thank you lillyjo!
Happy Belated!?
Thank you, AnniePerfumes!
Songs of the Day:
https://youtu.be/tAGnKpE4NCI
https://youtu.be/gscpOtPmS7s
Two from Metallica today. Feel free to skip if it ain’t your thing.
Taking a much needed break from housework of any kind today. I’ll be back at it tomorrow, sigh.
SOTD = back in Encens Jinhae, which I cannot seem to type correctly on my first attempt.
Enjoy the break. Housework won’t go anywhere. ?
I ended up doing a load of dishes in the dishwasher anyway. So much for my attempt at slacking…
I know I am late, but I want to send my condolences to you and your brother. I am so sorry for your loss.
And your songs of the day are fabulous. ?
Thank you sistine.
I always got the impression that Metallica was heavy metal!
Oh, it is! But there are several sub-genres under the umbrella of heavy metal. It isn’t just “all thrash, all the time”.
And Metallica has done a couple of albums with the San Francisco Symphony. Brings a whole new dimension to their music.
In VCA Rose Rouge for a (relatively) cool day of 80F. The humidity plummeted and temperatures dipped down beginning late last week, so we were actually able to do stuff outdoors over the weekend (and sleep with the windows open!)
That said, my skin and eyes are feeling dry without the suspended swamp air, and I’m not at all ready for summer to end so I won’t complain (I swear) when the humidity rolls back in with a thunderstorm tomorrow. ?
You smell great, kpaint. How do you humidify your house?
California Reverie – a very particular comfort scent for me – light and fresh with some jasmine haunting it, and all finally on a sweet base of cozy beeswax.
Gorgeous! One of my absolute favorites.
I’m actually quite surprised at how much iv used as I’m not much of a floral girl. Somehow this is still a winner!
Rainy and stormy here today. My weather is in the sweet spot of too cool for the air conditioning too warm for the furnace. Yay for lowering utility bills!
I had many hours to myself today and spent some time just sitting on the couch watching Norm Macdonald clips and laughing ?
Sotd is And the World is yours.
Sounds like you had a pretty good day off!
It has been pretty good. After the crazy weekend I just needed to zone out.
Great scent! It gave my husband a migraine. And that made me sad, because I loved that perfume.
Oh dang, that’s too bad. It is one I only spray lightly, but it lasts forever on me.
Sounds like a perfect day to relax on the couch! Glad you had a few laughs.
Oh my gosh Gail, some bits were so funny I was crying! Laughter is the best medicine.
Sounds like you had a great day and relaxed!
SOTD is YSL Black Opium Extreme. Finally, a Black Opium with enough coffee and less sweetness! I tried it in Sephora today and bought the travel spray right off. I think a (large) FB will be in my future!
And I love that travel mug, but will keep it at that because I already have too. much. stuff.
Oh, thanks for the mini review on Black Opium Extreme. Sounds like it is worth a sniff!
Wow, I did not even think to try it when I was there on Sunday!
I’m in Salt from Scent Trunk today. It’s flipping gorgeous.
Frustrated, anxious, just done. I need to start a new mood board! Any advice for healthy stress relief while dealing with with absolute BS at work? I will be changing careers next summer.
Check out Sephora Favorites Clean perfume sampler set. You can get a heck of a deal on a full bottle of Salt. ( certificate is only redeemable in store, but the set can be ordered)
I am sorry for your work woes.
Does any kind of music provide stress reduction/relief for you? If so, find a place where you can listen undisturbed.
Early evening walks help me greatly with stress relief. I listen to podcasts so my brain is occupied with storytelling and the scenery around me. I hope you can find a stress relief method that works for you.
I’m in the same place mentally, but due to personal life, not work. My plan is to start exercizing myself to physical exhaustion.
SOTD is Heliotrope Blanc L.T. Piver. This one can easily worn on its own or layered up.
