It's Monday and the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. (A quick PSA: I am at the beach this week, and so the blog will be even lazier than usual.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando, other than the lingering remains of last night's Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus.
Reminder: on 8/27 we're doing People change... wear something you never would have worn in your pre-perfumista days.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Eau de Cartier Concentree. To me, this has a strong peppery scent, which might be the coriander. One of my favorite eaus.
I’m off until Thursday this week? so I’m trying out the Molecule+ samples that I got a few months ago. Today is Molecule 01 + Patchouli. So far, so good. I’m not a huge patchouli fan in general. My first experiences with patchouli were in college when I smelled it on other people, and those people seemed to soak themselves in it, which was a big turn off for me. I do love Coromandel though, so I guess I’m on point for this week’s cp.
Even though madtownteen just got home from camp 2 weeks ago, today is registration day for next summer! Next year she will spend 2 weeks canoeing and camping in Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park (assuming the border stays open??). Her older sister did this trip 4 years ago and absolutely loved it. It will be fun for them so have a kind of shared experience to talk about.
Ohh, enjoy your time off!
Thanks! Hey, SmokeyToes, you get a DRMTLGY enabler pin!? I got my first order on Friday. I’m trying out their vitamin C serum. So far I like it. I’ve tried a few in the last several months (Maelove, Skinceuticals and Timeless) in search of my perfect formula. I like the consistency of this one. Have you tried their “needle-less serum”?
mtg, SmokeyToes got me going too. I love the vitamin C more than any I have tried.
Enabler!!
Awesome! I think Skinceuticals is great but whoa is it pricey!
I haven’t tried their needle-less serum, I’m considering it though!
SotD = Parfum d’Hermes
Yes to Hermes! I’m feeling very polished in a big 1980s floral way, thanks to this perfume sample and the wonderful NSTer who shared it with me.
I sorted through the sample stash a week or so ago and found so many forgotten lovelies. About a dozen are in a little blue glass vase on my desk waiting for their turn.
Soon I will be off to school, wearing a mask and smiling underneath, happy to see the littles on their first day back in the classroon. I won’t bother with much makeup as the mask covers it and wipes it off anyway.
Grabbed my lunch and car keys, now I’m off. Have a wonderful day, NSTers!
Parfum d’Hermès is one of the greatest scents ever made. Enjoy!
oh goodness yes, she’s a beauty! 😀
Have a good day back at school!
thank you, cazaubon, it was a good day! 🙂
Glad you seem excited to be heading back to school. Parfum d’Hermes is old school in a good way, you smell great.
you’re right, Aurora, old school is a perfect description. I love a good “everything but the kitchen sink” perfume.
Hope your year gets off to a good start!
thank you, MB 🙂 It was a good day. Even with a few surprises and mishaps, it felt good to be back on campus with all the little learners.
Our supposed hurricane turned out to be rain and a little wind. Everyone ran for cover anyway. I wore Cuir Noir yesterday, and today I am thinking about another Chanel, probably Chance again. I feel like going big, and you just can’t go wrong with those.
go big! 🙂 I hope your day smelled lovely.
Demeter Tiramisù, on a whim, one of their fun little dessert scents. Mostly sweet creamy coffee, very light.
Hope it’s a wonderful break, Robin, and enjoy your family you’ve not seen in so long!
SOTD: Gourmand Coquin
Trying to not nap just yet on this overcast, raining Monday. So very tempting.
You smell perfect!
A belated thank you, floragal!
Enjoy a restful break Robin!
Experiencing perfume indecision today. I’ll go with Eau des Merveilles by Hermes, salty & easy to wear amber. 🙂
Cup of coffee #2 done, and I’m headed out for a three-mile walk and then the gym (chest day). I overindulged yesterday, went to a friend’s house – I brought a salad and dessert, a New England Spider cake.
Nearly finished reading The Collaborator, by Diane Armstrong – I was up until 11pm reading it. So very enjoyable! Apparently there’s another book of the same name written by S.L. Stebel. I might have to add that to the reading list.
I’d never heard of a New England Spider Cake! I had to Google it immediately. Looks delicious. I truly do learn something new everyday. ?
Same here, I’ve learned so much about cooking and baking in other countries. And many other things 🙂
This is the recipe I used (see below), and it’s closest to what I remember as a kid. 🙂

Good morning Y’all!
Wearing easy breezy Wildbloom by Banana Republic. Smells like a fancy shampoo. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing exciting, but smells nice. Perfume grinch improved (cause it’s barely noticeable!) 🙂
Hope your beach is warm and beautiful and quite, Robin…
I am wearing a simple Orange Blossom Cologne, all orange blossom all the time, getting powdery in the dry down, I found a full bottle with a damaged cap on line for $16.00. So happy…
I’m thinking you smell wonderful. Sounds like you are in the drugstore classic zone, and it reminded me of some of my favorites: Fleure de Jontue’s Rose de Mai, Iris de Fete and Lotus de Nuit. I especially love the Iris. Like your orange blossom, it’s a sweet and lovely single note floral that gets powdery in the dry down.
Preshower perfume and in no 5 edp right now. After work today, I will be doing some grocery shopping and prepping for my dad’s surgery tomorrow.
Good luck to your dad tomorrow and wishing him a speedy recovery.
I spent the weekend visiting my grandma together with my parents. It was a lovely trip, we had a big family barbecue party in my aunt’s garden and the weather was great to visit the seaside (still so many tourists at the beach though)
Suddenly the weather turned 180* when we were coming back and started to rain heavily and it still continues right now.
I’m in Carner Barcelona Rima XI. Preparing a review of Memo Sicilian Leather for tomorrow.
SOTD is Decennial (Luckyscent) Santal Sacre, incense and sandalwood. Every time I wear this, I wonder why I don’t wear it all the time.
It’s not as smoky out today as forecast (yay!) so I am off to run errands. Need to get more spray paint for the risers for my PERFUME CABINET since I managed to break the nozzle off one of the cans, grumble, why can’t they print the instructions in Bigger Letters for us old farts who can’t read microscopic fonts even with reading glasses….
Wish I had bought that one too, all I have is Andy’s Lys do Désert, which is wonderful.
Yay for less smoke and smelling good, too.
I chose today’s scent without looking at the CP for the week, but it fits perfectly: vintage Shalimar parfum. My mom introduced me to Shalimar when I was a teenager and I remember thinking, “Who would want to smell like that? It’s so… *perfumey*…” Then I revisited it after I’d fallen down the scented rabbit hole and thought, “Who WOULDN’T want to smell like this???” I’ve never sniffed any of the Shalimar flankers or the latest iteration because this one is just so perfect to me, and it’s one of only a few scents that I have a back-up bottle of.
Cool and mizzly today, which feels delicious this time of year. Please, weather gods, keep those fuels damp and let it rain sooner than later this year!
Ha, we had the same exact first experience with Shalimar. I’m planning to wear it Friday, so I’ll say more then, but it’s funny how much taste can change.
I put a toe in the Shalimar water with the Eau de Cologne. I had a high school mishap with the original that frightened me away for much of my adult life. Given how I adore the EdC, I’m sure the original is in my future.
Still really enjoying Niki de Saint Phalle! Hot as anything yet again here but the Niki is performing well, even through a lot of sweat!
Have a good Monday everyone!
You smell great
Wish I had my sister’s bottle of that from so many years past….
Kind of wearing the opposite of the CP because I absolutely wore perfumes like this before I discovered niche and swapping and understood how big the world of perfume is – Tocca Brigitte. It’s musky rhubarb, papaya, saffron, ginger, and more. It was discontinued a few years ago, but I tracked down a bottle at BeautyBar in Vancouver, and it arrived over the weekend. So I’m trying to finish off my decant today in celebration.
Can’t remember, do you live in Vancouver? There will be a perfume meetup this weekend if you are interested.
Butting in here: Therabbitsflower, allo and I (and others?) are in Seattle but it would be super fun –someday–if we could come up and join the Vancouver group for a get-together!
Certainly when the border situation improves that would be great!
Yes, what springpansy said! I came across the bottle of Brigitte at BeautyBar through an online search.
Ooh, BeautyBar you say! Just checked the site and they seem to have some Penhaligon’s on sale…
You just earned an enabler pin. I have 2 ml left in my own bottle of Brigitte so just purchased a backup.
Yay!! 🙂 Score.
Lol!! Although it was on sale I paid big bucks for ” international shipping”
And thinking of you today as I waft in Brigitte amounts (16 sprays) of Paramela….
Yes, I saw that $25 intl shipping charge, ouch! But it’s in Canadian dollars, so 25% less painful. ;-). So glad you are still enjoying Paramela!
Yay, so glad you could get more too!
???
SOTD is all about the banana. I used a BW banana tiare shower gel, then a quick spray of SdC Banana Vanille. Now I’m baking banana bread! It’s kismet?
😀
Enjoy the banana day.
SOTD Parfum d’Empire Corsica Furiosa.
Happy Monday! ?
This reminds me of Deva, it one of her faves
It is! Every time I wear it, she always comes to my mind!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!?
Happy Monday!
??
Happy almost done Monday ??
??
In honour of back in the day, never would I ever, perfume wearing, I am wearing a small spritz of ELO’s big bellybutton. Like madtowngirl I was knocked out patchouli-wearing neo-hippies back in the day, but a refined patchouli is a different story altogether.
Vancouver perfumista meetup this Saturday! Will post details when I have them.
Had an exhausting sleepless night, wearing Blend Oud Tupai Love to stain the back fence. Oh joy.
Oh no. I didn’t have a great night either. I think even when I’m retired, Sunday nights may be a struggle due to a long habit. Good luck with fence staining!
Done staining the fence, now on to painting the trim around the dining room windows. After this I don’t even want to think about any more home maintenance jobs.
Happy Monday all! My SOTD is Dark Lord, By Kilian. I’m in the B’s now with this effort to get through samples, but it also hits the cp perfectly. I would never have given skin time to a men’s fragrance before I went down the rabbit hole. This is leather, booze and patchouli and it’s wonderful. Instantly reminded me of Gucci Guilty Absolute, but not quite so strong. I don’t need this. I want this. ?
Love the name
I am wearing a decant of vintage Amazone, and I did not like Chypres before the rabbit hole. Now they are a big art of my collection.
Welcoming cooler weather with Commodity Gold and sleeves, finally!
Made a big moving push over the weekend. got most of our stuff in the new place. One more week in the old. all that’s left is to move the bed, the dresser, the TV, and the perfume.
Gold is Gold! BUB worthy!
chchchchchCherry Bomb! Shower gel, lotion and fragrance mist of Japanese Cherry Blossom. I had a desire to smell clean and fresh today.
Anyone have experience with the scent website Fragrance Revival? I’m not really tempted but someone mentioned it. I saw my junior high/HS scent of Avon Somewhere on there, and it made me smile.
Became fully aware last night that summer is winding down. Penultimate outdoor free concert in our town performing arts center. Great band. But it got chilly, which took me by surprise. I used to look forward to end of summer in NYC. Here? Not so much. There’s other evidence in the seasonal restaurants – changing their hours, etc. It’s a little bit like a “party’s over or vacation’s over” kind of vibe.
End of summer makes me melancholic, always.
You put a song in my head
https://youtu.be/dSKTb8eAnGg
Not the one you think.
? Their hair
Heh. And your video made me go find a video of Leonard Cohen doing his song “Closing Time” (the Live in London version).
End of summer makes me excited – I love fall, plus it means I can fly south for the winter to San Diego. 🙂
Monday!
1) Cap Neroli (of course)
2) Am doing a deep clean of the house because I will have a (vaccinated) visitor coming to stay for a few weeks during the labor day weekend. I am going to lose my office again but this time I am not moving it back downstairs- I just going to move the desk to the upstairs hallway. I got Basil Green Tea candles to give the house a nice welcoming air.
Sounds like fun! Minus the cleaning. ?
Fog has rolled in to stay late this morning, I actually have a hoodie on.
SOTD is Tabac 28. I do love it.
Hope it’s a great vacation with everyone, Robin!
Tam Dao today. In pre-perfumista days, I don’t think I would ever have thought that a fragrance like that (or Kyoto or other incensey, woodsy fragrances) would even be considered perfume, let alone one that I would wear and enjoy. My world has grown!
In other news, I am in breakfast heaven. We cut down a bunch of overgrown blackberry vines on our property and I got enough blackberries to make cobbler. So that and coffee are breakfast with some yogurt sprinkled with pumpkin seeds.
Blackberry cobbler is one of my most favorite things ever! My son and I made one about a month ago and it disappeared embarrassingly quickly…
You smell great and your cobbler sounds divine!
We went birding in the Skagit Valley yesterday and I couldn’t keep my hands off the Blackberry bushes everywhere. Their fragrance is intoxicating.
SotD = Nomad Tea. I smell like I like to drink my tea – mint tea, white sugar cubes, delicious!!
I discovered Nomad Tea in my early perfumista days. But even preperfumista days I loved to smell like jasmine or tea or ginger. Then with niche perfumes I found so many options to express myself in the scent notes I so love.
Twins with springpansy this morning, after showering with Shikai sandalwood shower gel — SP and I smell yummy!
♥
One more thing: preperfumista days I consider the time when I had no clue niche perfumes existed. I still loved perfumes every time I went to Sephora and stuff. Since age 13 I my perfume staple was Alchimie by Rochas. But to escape the “mainstream” perfumey scents I resorted to finding Sephora brand vials of just jasmine or ginger etc. Or I would buy stuff like Avon Mandarine EdT or some body mists that smelled like tea etc because that’s all that I knew at the time.
Sending you all plumeria-scented winds from Molokai. The entire island smells insanely good. That said, I’m not above scenting/gilding the lily from time to time. Brought along Gallivant’s Tel Aviv to amp up the 70s beachy vibes.
Happy for you that you seem to be enjoying your holiday.
Ohhh, plumeria! My family lived in Hawaii for a little while when I was young, and my mom would make me plumeria leis almost every day. If there’s one scent I wish I could surround myself with and hold close to my heart, that’s the one.
*Takes a deep breath* Mahalo!
Sounds wonderful, enjoy!
Robin, so glad you are enjoying the family reunion and the beach.
I was in Mediterraneo this morning but this evening I am in Prada l’Eau Ambrée which also has a great citrus note on top but a lot more going on.
A belated thank you, and to say you picked 2 favorites of mine!
Thank you Robin, with the time difference I read comments the day after quite often, Mediterraneo (so refreshing) is popular on NST I think but the Prada l’E A is quite confidential.
I’m in the reminder of yesterday’s SmellBent Smoked Ambergris, which was perfect for our cool, seaside camping. We have moved on to rainforest camping today, and I’m thinking I will switch to Sonoma Scent Studios Forest Walk in a bit.
For camping enthusiasts, we’re doing some free camping here. Just lovely! ?
https://instagram.com/stories/vantasticviews/2646791335308431034?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&utm_medium=copy_link
Wow I hope You are having a great time. I am so envious – I love camping!!
Robin, I hope you enjoy your time with family!
I made tomato sauce to freeze yesterday because I had So.Many.Tomatoes. Today I’m wearing Feel Oud Bengal Santal before heading out for a walk. It’s chilly here and lovely walk weather.
SOTD = Scents of Wood Cedar in Flower
Woot! Such a wonderful fragrance from one of the recent deliveries. It is spicy (cardamom) with sandalwood, patchouli, rose and woody notes.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CS7ZL-3Limw/?utm_medium=copy_link
And just a reminder, it is SANDALWOOD and not “sandlewood” which is not a valid spelling.
Still eating my way through the freezer but also added my COVID canned goods, soups, rice, etc. I wouldn’t ever eat canned goods past their expiration but tetrapak soups are fair game as long as they are < 6 months after the Best By date.
Just FYI, canned goods past expiration are accepted by food pantries. They told us that they’re still fully nutritional well after that date.
I wonder if they’ll take pandemic flour? No canned food has expired yet.
You obviously didn’t grow up in my house ???
LOL. My mom used to not give us canned food (in the rare occasions) if it is expiring in < 6 months from the Best By date.
Your perfume sounds amazing! It looks like you would have to be careful to not spray on clothes.
Definitely a fair warning but I hardly ever spray on clothes or scarves.
I’m going to spend today working from home and testing samples. I’ve been very keen to try some of the new releases, and there is no point paying shipping for one sample from Luckyscent, I generally get 10 🙂
Enjoy your day at home.
Anyone have a recommendation for a pineapple scent? I have a blue sundress with tiny yellow pineapples all over it and always have the urge to match it with my perfume. I’m wearing Arielle Shoshana which is close but not quite spot on.
I immediately think of the new Mugler Iced Star, if you don’t mind Angel’s patchouli, your dress sounds lovely.
Yes I do: one with lavender: Frederic Malle Music for a while. Then there is Memo Tamarindo and Histoires de Parfums 1804. Love all three of them!
Where is the dearly departed L’Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz when we need it???!
I was thinking of Ananas Fizz too, but didn’t want to bring up something discontinued. ? It was so lovely, the pineapple note wasn’t sharp like in some other pineapple scents I’ve tried.
Thanks Everyone! I think I have a sample of the Frederic Malle. I will track down the others.
SOTD: Can’t remember! Fleeting whatever it was.
However, a bottle of Hummingbird just arrived and will blast. Blind buy, but Antonia from Tigerlily and I have the same taste, so I am thinking it’s all good. She actually tried to get me to just sample it before I bought it, how funny.
Totally forgot I even ordered it. Pleasant surprise!
Has anyone else ever done stupid stuff on social media? I accidentally liked a post, then felt the need to clarify in the comments section. I did a worse job of cleaning up my mess. I am overly sensitive regarding the lack of empathy and discrimination towards people who cannot take the available vaccines due to medical reasons. I feel like such an idiot.
Hope your beach trip is going great, Robin! Nothing like the water to soothe the mind.
Sends fragrant hand pats – sorry your post was misunderstood. I am sure you did not mean to condemn!
Thanks! I totally messed up, though.
I just unlike and if I left a message, delete it. I have started to be a bit more discriminating in my likes – e.g. if an influencer does not disclose if what is featured is a gift, I will not like it. If it’s gifted, I also will not like it. There’s one particular influencer who does not always disclose gifts AND deliberately misspells words (I am about to unfollow).
Miss Sandlewood? LOL.
I must find out who this is!! ?
Begins with A and ends in N. 5 syllables.
You got it!
Thanks for the great advice!
Very interesting point about the likes. I had no idea people did that.
SotD: Iris Torrefie. A FB is on the way. My NST split is almost gone, and it finally made its way into my heart, especially with the Saks Gift card and generous GWP’s called to my attention by Hajusuuri. I did not go the custom bottle route in the original enabling post, though. I’m finding it really blooms in the heat. My first wearing was to an afternoon wedding on a cool evening and I thought it was nice, but shy. But today’s outdoor summer activities made me love it.
You smell wonderful! I love it too.
Woop! I think we all just enable each other!
I love this one! Thanks PL67!
SOTD is Jour d’Hermes Gardenia. The gardenia note is fantastic. Creamy white florals, with the indoles from the jasmine turned way down, which I thinks works well for this. Ever so slightly powdery. A hint of something sour at the edges – the combination of tuberose and citrus I think – which for me elevates it to a sophisticated floral rather than a frilly one.
Fancy tea for Monday is a mix of Clipper Ship Assam and Nutcracker.
Hope you are having a fabulous time with your family at the beach, Robin.
Robin, I hope you’re enjoying your beach week!
SOTD is Guerlain Lui. This wasn’t a total love for me when I first tried it, and I certainly thought it might be too cloying in the heat. But I’ve grown to like it more and more, and today, it’s doing very nicely in the semi-heat.
Lui is very nice!
Sotd started in IUNX Talc and transitioned to Apres L’Ondee. I never thought I would be an iris and/or violet fan. But I sure am now!
You smell great!
Thank you x 2 since I think it was you mentioning Talc that sent me on that journey:)
A long busy day today. Lucky for me I had the forethought this morning to wear No. 19.
Day off tomorrow!?
Hooray for No.19 and day off tomorrow!
Love it when that fragrance forethought pays off and makes you smell so good too!
Enjoy your day off! 🙂
