It's Hump Day and Robert Redford is 85 today. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons, which started me on the road to white florals.
Reminder: on 8/20, wear the first scent that made you a fan of a particular note. Suggested by PriscillaE.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Ginger Piccante, today. I started loving ginger in fragrances after wearing Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple. I picked up Ginger Piccante unsniffed after reading about it here. I love it.
You smell wonderful…I blind bought a decant from one of our NST fragrant friends and just love it….maybe I will join you in some ginger today!
Morning all! I love that picture Robin! I think Caesar’s Woman was my first foray into tuberose/florals. Cheap as chips, $18, so my SOTD, wearing the original Michael Kors, just a teeny bit as it has huge sillage.
Bleary-eyed and snappish, the day started with my insurance agent informing me that my roof didn’t have the necessary hurricane protections (I installed and paid for hurricane strap installation in 2015).
So my roof isn’t protected and my wind insurance for the FL home is doubling. 😯
Bit Mr. SmokeyToes head off, and accidentally stepped on Smokey’s tail. I need to avoid people today and go to the gym… This much drama isn’t a good thing.
YAY for the original Michael Kors. BOO for all the crappy stuff.
So the straps are not considered sufficient? What exactly do they require? Sorry for the rough start to the day.
They provide protection, but not as much as clips, anchored with three nails (more protection and meets the criteria for an insurance discount) or wraps, which is the industry gold standard, but very expensive. I likely won’t do it until I have a new roof installed in 12-15 or so years.
Tomorrow is a new day, and this one is nearly over. I went to the office, met with a few new student supervisors, gave them student supervisor orientation so at least it was productive and they are prepared.
Ugh — hate it when you pay for something to be done and it doesn’t turn out to be right! Blah. Hope the gym helps, though!
I think that tree is actually an invasive weed tree in some areas, but since I don’t have that problem here I think it’s lovely 🙂
AKA Chinese Lantern tree aka Sickle Bush.
Robert Redford is 85. How is that possible?
Test Cedrat 37 today. Nothing special so far but we shall see.
I know, I was thinking the same thing…
I feel really old thinking of RR being 85. Sigh.
So, that means I am really 68 and I was 20 when I watched The Way we Were w/ the person who I thought was my Hubble. It was the way we were.
Ohhhh, that movie! That dance scene with RR in a tuxe?
Now I need to watch it tonight…
enjoy!
Robert Redford…..when I lived in NYC (early ’80’s) I used to see him at a little French bakery on the upper upper East Side. I was too dumb struck to speak, but I did nod and smile on occasion. He would nod and smile back–oh, for the small pleasures in life!!
Oh, I would have made a complete idiot out of myself…. *sigh*
WOW.
Hot(tish) yesterday, same today and tomorrow, then a respite from the heat. I’m wearing 4711 cologne, possibly the most refreshing scent in the world. I bought it at the actual 4711 shop in Cologne/Köln and I’m just about out of it. Time for another trip… (in my dreams).
Yes! 4711 is definitely one of my go-to refreshing summer scents! I bought mine in Germany but not in their actual shop. That would have been fun. 🙂
Love 4711–a trip to purchase it from the source would be amazing. Actually, a trip anywhere right now would be wonderful!!
Good morning, everybody! I’m enjoying the spicy goodness of Jacomo Art Collection No. 08, hoping that it helps get me through my day. It’s a great all-weather scent for me, and I’m easing into the Hajusuuri Method with four sprays.
Thanks for the reminder, I’m going to grab mine out too.
LOL at easing into hajusuuri spray levels!
I’ve been swanning around the house for the last 36 hours in the original Fendi perfume. It’s rare for me to respritz something more than a couple of times in a row but I love reliving my years when it was my signature. SO GOOD!
Portia xx
You smell fab!!
Thanks. X
What a divine choice.
That’s a perfect word descriptor Aurora!
I love this one, too.
SNAP SpringPansy!
Interesting orange sunrise… we had a lovely day yesterday, clear and not too hot, but we’re back in the smoke today. Boo hiss.
SOTD is Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate, which taught me that I really like rhubarb in perfume. I already knew that I really like red perfume bottles 🙂
Sorry about your smoke, ours has diminished but still hanging around. Boo hiss indeed.
Is there actual smoke at ground level down around you? We’ve had quite a few orange skies over the past week or two (today’s is especially bad), but the AQI has always been excellent (<40), and the air doesn't smell or feel bad.
As I’ve said before, things are different where I live than where you live… “ground level” for me is over 2000 ft higher than for you, and on the other side of a mountain. Our AQI is 190 as I type this. (Take a look at PurpleAir.com)
190 is ghastly — I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that! My asthma kicks into gear at about 50. Lots of smoke here today but we aren’t getting totally kippered.
Yeah there’s nothing like air you can taste – ICK
Good lord. That’s terrible. Stay safe!
SOTD is Pineward’s Treacle. Smells like autumn. Sweet tobacco leaves, molasses, raisins/dates, a little bit of smoke (I wouldn’t have come up with lapsang tea if not for Pineward’s notes, but it is exactly right bc this is wet smoky not dry smoky). Don’t need more than my sample, but happy to have tried it.
Mixed some bourbon vanilla flavored tea in with my english breakfast tea bags this morning to keep the Tea Bag Thunk Project interesting. The vanilla goes nicely with the Treacle.
Looking forward to trying the Pineward scents, they sound quite interesting.
Years of gagging on Tresor made me think I didn’t like peach, until I got a decant of Bitter Peach.
Despite the unconscionable racket of charging you more for raunchy names…I love it. Hoping it’ll keep my spirits up, had to get a tooth pulled yesterday and the swelling is starting.
Ack, sorry about the extraction! Hope it feels better soon.
Thanks! ?
Hope the swelling will be minimal.
Heal well and quickly, Dorsey!
Hope you have plenty of soft treats on hand, and that you heal quickly!
Wishes for a quick recovery!
Temps have dropped off and I’m enjoying the cooler weather. Pulling out Songe d’un Bois d’Été to celebrate.
We have tornado warnings…hoping a decent but mild storm washes our humidity away, although not likely.
So I will vicariously enjoy YOUR weather!
I LOVE this but it’s away in a box. Thanks for the reminder to get it out and spritz.
I’m longing for cooler weather – so glad it came to you at least!
Last night was cool and nearly smoke-free so I slept with both windows open! I almost needed my hug-sleep pod thingy to stay warm and cozy.
I cannot believe that Redford is 85. Wow! Perhaps I’ll honor him this weekend by watching All the President’s Men or The Candidate, two of my favs.
SOTD: Oeillet Bengale
DVR alert–looks like TCM’s showing Redford movies all day.
Cool!
Robert Redford movies! The Sting – that one is so funny!
Hove Parfumeur Magnolia
I bet that one is nice. Wish I was in the Hove store right now!
It’s rained a bunch and I have a new job, so this might be the best Wednesday morning I’ve had in months! Rewarded myself for getting a job with a travel size of the seven virtues Santal Vanilla which I’m wearing today!
Vanille. Love when autocorrect gets too involved.
Congrats on the new job!
Thank you!
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Best wishes on your new job–enjoy!!
Thank you, I’m excited for it!
Well done on the new job.
Thank you!
Congratulations on your new job! And on your rain. 🙂
Thank you! I’m so happy about the rain, it has been so smokey and dry here lately!
congrats to you!!
Congratulations on your new job! And the rain is a bonus!
Congratulations!
Hooray!!! That’s so exciting.
Our temps aren’t bad, but the humidity is on the rise. Boo.
Scent: Byredo Pulp, because I thought I needed to make some small, but noticeable changes today to keep my brain occupied. I would be wearing Bombay Bling if I had any; it’s perfect for this sort of distraction. My sample is empty, but if I hold it up to my nose, I can enjoy the remains.
Other: some decluttering…currently looking at a few baby outfits. Very few. They are what’s left after prior cleanouts, and I’m weighing the someone-can-use-it vs sentimentality question.
Ooh, I might have to pull out my sample of pulp tomorrow, it’s a good summer scent I think!
I have the same debate over the old baby clothes that are still here! I was pretty good at handing down to younger families when my kids were still in elementary school, and donating to a local charity that serves children, but I still have some cute smocked outfits and fancy coats that bring back memories.
I’m wearing Matiere Premiere Falcon Leather today.
But soon I’m off to a jazz concert and am thinking I’ll switch to Arquiste Misfit which is a deep and mesmerizing patchouli.
Enjoy the jazz concert!
Falcon Leather is such a good name
Spent the morning in Deneuve and was being lazy. Now I am in Chanel no 5 body products layered with Eau Premiere. Bath and Body Works finally brought back the Honeycrisp Apple candles but not purchasing any right this second. Must finish at least 6 candles and the candles are not on sale. Not being on sale makes things easier.
Good luck burning those candles, Dawn!
I think you have until November / December to get the 6 burnt. How many will you have left after you use up the 6?
Cool nights, days in the 80s, no allergies to speak of, still basking in the relief of full electrical service…SOTD Mitsouko! because my modern Chypre from DSH, Toward the Starry Vault (just can’t handle the French name today) is out and I am torn between replacing this immediately, or buy some of the newly released Dragonfly – I see it is now Dragonfly 2021, but I am just kicking myself for not getting a bottle of the original version, so I might spring for this unsniffed…
but, back to Mitsouko – this is just fabulous stuff, isn’t it? Complex, beautiful, doesn’t smell like anything else…a “If I had to have only one bottle of perfume, what would it be?” contender, for sure…I remember I got this as one of a set of 5 little minis, the ones they used to put out in the 70’s and 80’s – they were nice, with the little bottles looking like the big bottles. I got the set for the Jardins de Bagatelle, I think it also included Apres ‘Ondee and Shalimar, and one of the bee bottle florals of the time, don’t remember what it was. I remember being slightly put off by the Mitsouko when I first opened the little bottle and sniffed it, but after a few weeks, I realized that that was the one that I had worn almost every day and had used it up…now I wish I had kept those little bottles, in a nice sliding red box, I think….
Mitsouko is my biggest disappointment. I just can’t like it. Shalimar took me a long time to appreciate but I did get there. (And I don’t like Chanel No. 5 but I don’t mind in the least that I don’t.)
Thanks Ede, Caz, and Viridian for the sandal recs on Monday; waiting for two pair to arrive this week. I hope they fit, it’s my first time “blind buying” shoes!
I’m wearing A la Nuit this morning before a walk and a trip to the hardware store. Such a thrilling life.
I spend my life at Home Depot it seems. Hope you find a winner in your sandal orders!
I never think of A la Nuit and a hardware store!! But….maybe if I had a handsome contractor…..
I thought I read scandal recs and was intrigued and horrified at the same time ?
Ha, I blind-buy all my shoes. The curse of wearing a size 5.5! Almost nobody stocks that size, so I gave up on shoe stores eons ago. Zappos is my BFF. Nordstrom is pretty good too.
BTW I like Merrell’s for sporty-sandals. Keens are pretty good too.
second the vote for Keens–they are all that I wear in the summer.
I highly recommend the SAS sandals I posted above in a 5.5, they are seriously like bedroom slippers they’re so comfy. They stock them in the stores too. 🙂
SotD = Winter Palace. A really tasty tea with a touch of spice and a lemon slice (not a wedge but a slice floating in the cup) that is what this delicious perfume smells like to me.
You smell amazing! One of my favorites.
I am going to join PriscillaE in Ginger Piccante. So refreshing and fizzy, almost makes the humidity bearable.
I haven’t started yet, but I feel a big de-cluttering coming on. Maybe it’s all the back to school commercials reminding me that summer is winding down and it’s time to prepare for winter. I did a big perfume clean out last year and have not added to my stash (except for one swap and a holiday purchase of Wrappings), so I am not sure if I have any ‘fumes to let go…..but shoes and purses, that’s a different story!!
I have been de-cluttering all year. Wonder how many hundreds of pounds of stuff I’ve gotten rid of? Of course I bought new stuff too 🙂 I am down to the two worst rooms in the house (the office and the other office / junk room)… having a hard time making myself start on those. (Then there’s the basement and garage, I decline to even think about that just now…)
I am saving the attic for last……maybe during the cold winter month (it’s always warm up there!!)
That’s my excuse… er, reason… for delaying the garage clean-out. Too hot now!
I’m in excellent company! 🙂
Oops – mixed up replies. I meant to say that I know where at least 1 duffle bag of “clutter” went and I am very grateful 🙂
It has been almost cold so far this week so I’m keeping warm in Annick Goutal Sables.
OOOHHH! One of the best. You smell terrific.
Thank you, I remain faithful to those older AG.
I think Sables was the first niche perfume I ever tried. You smell wonderful.
Thank you Lillyjo, how very special that it’s your first niche.
My son is six today! Still commando as the morning has been a whirlwind of getting him off to his first day of 1st grade and then baking his cake and decorating the house, but after a shower I’ll probably join Robin in La Chasse Aux Papillons, which also endeared me to white florals along with being the gateway drug to my whole perfume habit.
One by one, the family members who were supposed to be part of tonight’s birthday dinner have fallen away, so that now it’ll just be me and my son. Yesterday I asked him if he was disappointed, and he said, “Are you kidding me? You’re the best part of my life!” We’re having spaghetti with homegrown tomato sauce, fresh basil, and Bellweather Farms ricotta at his request, and his cake is lemon layered with whipped cream and blackberries that we picked in the hedgerows yesterday. Rainbow sprinkles might get involved…
Happy Birthday to your son! He says the most profound things for a wee one.
Happy birthday to your sweetie!
Oh my goodness, your son sounds like such a sweetie. Happy birthday to him! (He also has impeccable taste in ricotta brands and cake flavors.)
Happy Birthday to your sweet son! It sounds like a wonderful, celebratory meal. I hope sprinkles are involved.
Tell your son to quit making me cry! Lol and Happy Birthday!
Wow, a birthday and the first day of first grade? This is a big day!!! I hope you both have a wonderful time and make great memories.
What a lovely birthday plan and a wonderful son to celebrate!
Your son is the BEST.
2nd that. If my son ever said anything like that to me I would drop over dead, honestly.
SOTD = Initio Side Effect
Love this spicy, boozy, tobacco and vanilla perfume!

In other news, besides not purchasing any bread in August, I am also eating my way through the freezer. I can definitely go longer than end of August and will try to limit my weekly groceries to veggies, fruits, creamer, yogurt and no more than 2 pieces of fish. Depending on when I go to Trader Joe’s next, I will probably end up buying some of the frozen entrees since I don’t go there often. Wish me luck!
You smell great!!
Thank you!
Good luck on your freezer clean-out! I’m doing the same here, frozen pizza for lunch. 🙂
Maybe I will finally unbox my air fryer. I have tater-tots that I bought specifically to try out with the air-fryer.
Please do! You can let me know if it’s easy enough for this non-cook to look into.
I always have tater and hate turning on the oven.
I got the air fryer because I was bummed for buying the 5 or 6 quart version when a 2 quart would have sufficed. And it was on sale! I say definitely look into it at Target at the beginning of November. In 2020, they did a Black Friday sale everyday in November.
I want to do this, too, but how am I going to get through three quarts of tomatillo purée, a jar of cherry syrup, some dubious pumpkin, and a container of candied violets??
Eat lots of pasta ?. I will leave the candied violets or prettify your breakfast.
Chile verde with tomatillo puree, choice pork shoulder and roasted mixed chiles, some poblano, some Hatch- yum!
Mix the cherry syrup with some nice sweet vermouth, or gin, pour over ice and fill the glass with soda water, or tonic, and a slice of lime!
Make company shortbread with really good butter, really fine sugar, really fresh flour, mash some of the candied violets and stir into the dough, and put the rest on top for the prettiest tea cakes ever…
WOW– no bread! I don’t think I could do it…..good idea eating through the freezer. I am mainly working my way through my weekly farm share (the tomatoes alone are worth the cost), but I do like my bread to go with the tomato salad!!
I’ve had to change my routine and I am actually discovering stuff I left to eat later are actually very good. Whatever I don’t finish means I’ve circled around it too long that I need to just chuck them.
Hey Hajusuuri! We are trying to empty the freezer at the moment too, though it’s not exclusive. It’s fun trying to work out what to cook with what we have. If Jin gets inspired to cook something particular though we go with that.
About 50% of the freezer is prepared foods, 25% veggie burgers / meat / fish, 15% veggies and such and 10% ice cream. Although not in my current plan, I may supplement with canned goods and pasta and extend this mission to mid-September. As usual, I overthink these things but I am mixing up my nutrition routine so that’s good.
Good luck! We did the freezer clean out when we moved last year and I have been rigid about not filling it mindlessly since then. My husband thinks I’m nuts. But he wasn’t the one throwing out 60 bananas designated for “banana bread”, which I haven’t baked since 1998.
LOL. I have pandemic flour and yeast. I highly doubt I’ll be baking anytime soon so may donate those to a food pantry.
Getting through the freezer is such an accomplishment! Congratulations!
We try to do what Portia does..what can we make out of this stuff? It gets creative and kind of fun. Almost like “Chopped”!
Ha! And I would look at the stuff and go huh? and be the first one to be chopped!
Wearing Black Perfecto Florale EDT from a kind NSTer which reminds me quite a bit of the original.
Work has been busy and I have been trying to keep up with varying degrees of success. ?
My sister had her 5th chemo treatment on Monday and is feeling pretty good…7 left to go… ??
Has anyone tried the new L’Interdit Rouge flanker? I am most curious and trying not to buy it blind…Satan, get thee behind! ? I really like the Intense flanker and just caved bought a FB of that one. ?
I haven’t tried it but I hear it’s really good. ;-). Glad to hear your sister is doing well!
Holy moly, my response ended up on a comment thread of its own ? ?
I’m glad your sister is feeling alright!
The Intense flanker is pretty awesome. I’ve been trying to find a good deal on it. Where did you get yours?
Glad to hear your sister is doing ok!
I’m glad your sister is doing well!!!
I’m also glad your sister is doing well!
Glad your sister is feeling pretty good!
So many of the Intense versions are better than the original. I had been huffing my screw top sample of LVEB Intensement for the past few days. I probably should just wear it because I can freely spray. Maybe tomorrow.
This was meant for She-ra ?
Intensement is very good stuff and I only happened to find it by pouring over Fragrantica reviews…as one does…nightly… ??
Sotd – Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue – remembering this as and Infusion d’Iris as the inspirations for a very deep Iris dive. And what a happy dive it has been.
You and me with both of these and the iris love!
I am happy to be in such in excellent company 🙂
I wore Angel eau Crossiere today. I want to use my summer perfumes as much as I can the next few weeks. September is fall to me, no matter what the temperature says.
I was just remarking to myself that leaves have started to fall but I think kt is because it is fairly dry in these here parts.
Escentric 2 today.
Robert Redford is always Gatsby to me. I generally was a Paul Newman girl but whenever I saw Robert Redford I always admired his craft. Loved him in The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But Gatsby??? ?
Robert Redford is always Jeremiah Johnson to me! Scruffy, looks like he smells, padded with layers of clothes. Playing against his looks.
But he is so pretty in The Way We Were, and Gatsby, too.
Need to see Gatsby… for me, Robert Redford is Denys Finch-Hatton in Out of Africa. Swoon…. The Horse Whisperer too.
