Happy Hump Day and World Nature Conservation Day! (Also, National Milk Chocolate Day). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando for my last few hours at the beach. I'm thinking Sarah Jessica Parker Stash SJP for the drive home later today.
Reminder: on 7/30 we're doing BUB Frenzy. Wear a fragrance that inspired you to buy a backup bottle (or that you wish you wish you had a backup bottle of, or you're thinking about buying a backup bottle). Adapted from a suggestion by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Nicolai New York. I have two bottles of it so I guess that’s a bub except that I thought I lost my first bottle. No problem as I love it. The cool, dry citrus should cut through the heat today.
And if you’re going to lose a bottle, at least it was a PdN and not something outrageously spendy!
I’m wearing Chaman’s Party by Honore des Pres, which is another dark, smokey vetiver, good for cool days, but not so much Texas in summer. If I wear another vetiver this summer it will have to be Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, for it’s citrus.
Ah, I can see that being too strong for the weather, but you do smell great.
Morning all, my SOTD is vintage Opium another BUB selection. Just a light spritz as it’s supposed to be hot today. đ
Happy Hump Day! đ
Ciao ST!
I wanted to ask you , do you use any other products from DRTLGY besides the sunblock?
Ciao L2SM! I do! Their Peptide Night Cream and Vitamin C are fabulous.
I use their TINGL pads (Salicylic Acid 2%, Glycolic Acid 5%, Lactic Acid 5%) to address discoloration on my chest area. It’s lightened up my discoloration substantially. It’s too strong for my face, so I avoid that area.
So, ST, you are the enabler here for DRTGlY?
I am hooked on the vitamin C and the neck cream.
Yes, unfortunately, I am! I’ve been a fan for a few years, they are very reasonably priced and their sunscreens are great!
You smell lovely! My wallet has a firm “see vintage Opium, buy vintage Opium” policy. ?
I’m right there with ya! I have a dab of the vintage perfume and I treasure it. It’s super thick and oily…
How lovely! I’m lucky to have quite an array, though I must admit that I prefer the EdT. That spicy carnation sends me!
I love the EDP or perfume, the EDT with carnation is a little difficult for me to wear. I love carnation on others…
Sorry, I’m lost, but interested. DRTLGY?
Yep, DRMTLGY is a new(er) skin care brand, effective and reasonably priced.
Oh, got it. DRMTLGY is the name! I thought this was an acronym. đ Thanks! I’ll be in need of Vitamin C serum soon and will check it out.
Vintage Opium! I tried wearing it in 1980, and it just didnât smell as gorgeous on me as it did the friend who wore it. Made me quite sad. Wonder if it would work on me nowâŠ
One of my friends that is a big qvc shopper gave me a bottle of carmindy perfume. I smell sort of like the beach. I get all the leftovers she doesn’t like.
Chai tea and off to my language lesson
Oh, lovely on all counts! Enjoy the lesson!
In Vanille Insensee today as a palate cleanser. I just wasn’t feeling inspired this morning.
There’s definitely something to be said for palate cleanser, easy-to-reach-for fragrances.
Hope it worked!
A small bottle of VI is on the way to me. It was part of a lot. I am so curious; glad to hear it’s working for you, missionista.
Sotd is Fragonard Beau de Provence (thanks to inspiration from Pixel)
And BUB of the day is SL Ambre Sultan
Iâm in Indochine this morning, and contemplating the pile of money I spent on clothes yesterday. My niece is having a marriage celebration later this year (small wedding actually held already, without most of her friends and extended family because of the pandemic), and in chatting with my mom yesterday I realized that I have nothing suitable to wear to the celebration events ⊠so of course I immediately went online and hunted a few possibilities down. I fully expect to return a lot of what I ordered, but my credit card is reeling a bit nonetheless.
you smell so great! I was in a hurry for an early meeting so I think I will go to the closet of delights and twin with you!
Oh yay â I seldom get to twin! Hi!
You smell marvelous! Indochine is gorgeous…
Thanks, ST!
I purchased a few new dresses to wear this summer and haven’t worn either of them yet! I did wear a new jumpsuit for my husband’s bday dinner which I really love. Buying clothes is so weird right now.
You donât hear much about jumpsuits these days. This brought back a memory from the late 70s, when my first husband (before we were married) was in a band and I made black jumpsuits for all the band members. They actually looked pretty spiffy, for that era.
I have three pairs of quite-fabulous shoes that I’ve purchased during the pandemic but haven’t yet gotten to wear out into the world since they’re date-night/cocktails-with-the-girls/presenting-to-the-Board kinds of shoes. There they sit, taunting me with the life I’m not currently living…
Ha! I went the other way by breaking down and finally getting Crocs. So ugly, but so comfy and perfect for gardening.
Today I’m wearing Yesterday Haze from IA. It’s definitely in my top four I got from the sample pack but it might be moving up a little bit because the smell is hitting in a new way almost today. Very happy about it! Going to watch a couple of my siblings kids later, which I’m looking forward to.
This is my favorite of the line too! Smells like toasted coconut on my skin. I have to say the name really annoys me though. I wish it was Yesterday’s Haze, or yesterday in a haze – or something!
I did have to check that before I posted and I agree it should be yesterday’s in order to be correct, but hey at least it smells good!
Good morning, all! Still wrestling with headaches but wearing a bit of Bronze Goddess and enjoying the cool of the morning before the temperature starts to climb. Taking my son to a local sporting goods store later today to get kitted out for his first soccer season, and firmly in denial that I may have set myself on a path towards becoming a soccer mom.
Lol.. soccer mom, yay! Once you see your kiddo doing his thing you’ll love it.
Hope the headache goes away soon.
LOL on the soccer mom. :-). I hope your headaches ease off! With all the stress Iâve had quite a few myself. Thank god for aspirin with codeine.
Scentless today, as I got a bad dose of some pesticide or chemical the day before yesterday that invades my system and comes out in the saliva glands and makes everything taste bad and my lips and tongue go numb, so I am detoxing at the moment with things I know are safe – half tin of coffee which has been fine, some bison burgers I have frozen, fresh organic produce….wish I knew what that chemical is – I encounter it a couple times a year at random intervals. Don’t know where it comes from. Ugh. I have no BUBs at the moment because I am out of Mohur Extrait, and I have been trying to buy a BUB for half a year, but there have been other things demanding my dollars. If I was wearing scent today, it would probably be Wisteria Hysteria, which is great in hot, humid weather…
Ouch, that sounds awful! Please take good care of yourself!
Ugh. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Good heavens. With the numbness, it sounds like a neurotoxin â hopefully someone is trying to track it down and eliminate it.
Oh no, I hope that is very temporary.
Sounds terrible, hope you’ll recover quickly.
Ack! Hope you feel better soon.
Any chance it is a nut allergy? I have a similar reaction to brazil nuts. Hope it goes away soon.
Has that ever happened to you before?
I think I’ve read that Siberian pine nuts can do that. Most of the pine nuts available in the US now are from Siberia rather than Italy. It’s a bit of an ecological scandal because of the destructive harvesting, I’ve read.
What a week of weather for you, Robin! Gorgeous beach days.
SOTD: Iris Nobile edt (excited to check out their new LOTV you posted info. on!)
QQ: Anyone interviewing these days? Kind of surprised not one of the 3 people I interviewed sent a thank you note and I was wondering if I missed some new rules of hiring?
I’m going to be interviewing and thank you for reminding me that I must send thank you notes! I haven’t done a lot of it in my life so reminders of etiquette are much appreciated! I’m guessing the the thank you letter can be an email these days right?
Yes, email is fine and you’ll want to do it within 24-hrs.
Each person you meet with should get one đ
I’ve got such a bad taste in my mouth re this behavior by these interviewees. Bad move IMHO.
Agree. But also note how many employers go dead silent after in-person interviews. Not a good look when companies show such lack of consideration.
I thought of you when I saw the new LOTV scentâŠ
True.
On the hunt, LizzieB!
Thank you! I definitely want to make good impressions on these interviews!
I started a new job last year and was told that my sending an email after the interview to say thank you for the time and confirm my interest weighed in my favor bc several others hadn’t bothered. It definitely wasn’t the reason I got the job, but it apparently reinforced the decision. Such an quick thing to do, I don’t understand why a canidate wouldn’t do it (even if it can be a bit painful to figure out what to say).
You smell fabulous.
Thank you!
I wish my husband liked this one so I could wear it more. I love it. It is one I’d def get a BUB for but it’s hard to find this version.
When I’ve interviewed people I typically only get a few thank-you notes afterwards, but they definitely make the applicants look good!
I’ve been interviewing people for a job on my team and it’s noticeable that people are not sending thank yous. Wow. Such a simple thing to do. And since I work in a fundraising office and we spend a lot of time thanking our generous donors, we particularly notice when people don’t send an interview thank you!
Also, I do always get back to everyone who interviewed on where we are with the hiring process and the final decision.
My parents are back in town and haven’t gotten into the shower yet. So I am still in Lyric but Coco Mademoiselle is calling my name today.
Were they able to replace the kindle?
I don’t think she has noticed yet about her Kindle.
I am wearing Penhaligons Endymion today.
Nice picture Robin. Beautiful and scary at the same time ?
Endymion sounds interesting!
Wearing Eau de Merveilles today, which I do not have a BUB of but is definitely worthy of a BUB.
I’m in the home stretch of my summer semester, and then I get a little break until the fall semester starts! Other than my part-time survival job, I don’t plan on doing much. I’m just going to relax and read books for fun.
You smell great! I would agree that one is BUB worthy.
Enjoy your break from school. May I ask what you are studying?
Nothing very exciting. It’s the Medical Information Technology program at my community college. Think EHR/Information Privacy/arguing with insurance companies. I would have preferred to hole up in cave and study philosophy, but didn’t think that would pay any bills. . .
SotD = Chinatown
A classic…
So good
Always meant to get that one. Enjoy yours.
Thanks so much. It is an “oldie” but goodie!!
Hello all!
This week’s poll was made for me and my crazy hoarding tendencies, but I’d have to admit to those out loud….
I chose vintage Byzance EdT. I’m not quite sure how it happened but I have 5 (!) bottles, though if my memory serves, I spent less on the lot that some of those bottles individually get listed for on eBay. Eventually I might destash but I really do love this scent.
Stay safe everyone.
Forgot to ask, is anyone else taking advantage of the Etat Libre d’Orange promotion they’re having (in the US at least). Buy one 100ml, get another 100ml bottle free. I like a few of them a lot but can’t make up my mind, which is probably a sign not to do it….
Sun and showers today, typical English weather.
I was wearing Molton Brown Muddled Plum from my new bottle. It had faded so now I am in Acqua di Parma Profumo. I wear it quite a lot but I have a vintage BUB, in this case I hope it will smell the same because I adore my newish version.
I’m a fan of MB’s Milk Musk. I need to try Muddled Plum as it’s a great name!
Sorry, my mistake, it was supposed to be a stand alone comment.
Not a single worry. I heard Muddle Plum is fab. Congrats on your bottle.
Thank you! It’s very gourmand but not too sweet, boozy, lots of plum.
Byzance was one of the first perfumes I smelled and liked. Yay for 5 bottles!
Isn’t it lovely? I don’t think it’s too dated at all, and almost subdued for the 80’s (but still too much for the 90’s!).
I feel a bit mad saying it out loud, “I have five bottles of one perfume.” ?
Not mad at all!!
I’m in Mx. my current favorite any time fragrance. Always good. And kinda/sorta fits the cp: I’m planning a full bottle purchase, but I also have a 10 ml spray for the meantime thanks for the lovely and generous NST perfumista that we all know and love.
I just talked to my bosses about my goal of retiring this fall… kind of an emotional day.
Yay for retirement!!
Hi, springpansy: I had that conversation (and handed over a letter with the details and some personal thoughts ’cause I loved my job) back in April. I have not mentioned it here before, but I retired at the end of May! It was right; from how dedicated you seem to have been to work, I say you will be glad.
Congratulations, MossyBerry!
Thank you!
Congrats, Mossy! So how is it?
A retired friend pointed out that retiring in the summer was a good idea, since I like to work outside and there are so many yard/house projects calling to me. I’ve found the transition easy; my layoff last year due to COVID shutdowns turned out to be a practice run. Not to go on, but one funny thing is since I was a career-long, 8-5, M-F person, mornings can “feel” like Saturday, every day! Thanks for asking and looking forward to hearing how you do!
Exciting news!
Congratulations! And I can also imagine how emotional it must have been. It’s exciting to think about all that awaits you with more free time…
They asked me to think about whether I would have any interest in being part-time. Hmmm.
You smell great! All best wishes for retirement and a graceful separation from work!
I retired at the end of 2020 and havenât regretted it for a second. It was actually a blessing for my department head, because of the pandemic â he had instructions to trim the departmentâs budget, and I was a medium-sized part of it. I think he misses me, but not too awfully much. ?
Wearing the summery Biehl PC01. This was a perfume I loved so much I hunted high and low to get a second bottle, finally finding it in a Toronto hair salon – a confusing venue. All that effort, and then I found my love had subsided to mere affection, and drat, it’s a big bottle. Fickle Nose strikes again…
Oh, I hate when that happens! Thatâs kind of the reason I havenât felt a deep need for back-up bottles over the years â I worry that I wonât be in love with a scent anymore by the time I thunk the original bottle. (Of course, all bets are off with regard to Chanel 19 âŠ)
There’s a heat wave coming over the next three days, as if it hasn’t been hot enough already. I’m wearing Desarmant, so pretty. If I didn’t have 100mls I’d buy a BUB but I’m sure I have enough given the size of my perfume cabinet.
Desarmant is gorgeous, as thegoddessrena can also attest.
Hear, hear!
Sorry Coumarin this was meant to be a stand alone comment.
I haven’t bought a full bottle of perfume since October and so I uncharacteristically splurged and spent a good chunk of my first Denver paycheck and blind bought Santal Sultan from Ensar Oud. Hope my nose approves of my spending as much as Donatella does.
SOTD is Rosa Sur Reuse which I have a backup for but would be thrilled to obtain even more of
Do report on the Ensar Oud. I like so many mass market scents so much (Guerlain, Estee Lauder) that I have only sampled some Areej d’Or scents from the stratospherically priced realm.
This is such a coincidence! I came to NST today to post that my only BUB that counts is Ensar Oud Santal Sultan. Not that I use huge quantities; I don’t. It just seems precious and irreplaceable. I hope you enjoy it, too!
BTW, I also sampled Ensar Oud Santal Royal, which Kafkaesque preferred, but my choice was Santal Sultan.
Commando because Iâve had a low-grade headache all day. Hot shower didnât help as much as I thought it would. Allergy pill and just now took an Excedrin, which is best for these kinds of things. I keep trying to tackle more of the stuff in the garage but have to take breaks. Headache is making me tired more than anything else.
Went to movies again yesterday. This time, there was just one other person in the quite large theater. Black Widow, which was entertaining and humorous (Natasha was one of the best of the Avengers.) Completely ridiculous action sequences. Worth the $5. Joe-Bob says check it out.
Good to know! I liked the trailer and will stream it someday.
It fits in with the rest of MCU movies in tone.
In Champagne Toast- took a shower in it, actually. Very refreshing for a high of 93F.
Azzaro Wanted Girl By Night which is a sweet fruitchouli w/ rum and vanilla.
Sounds good to me ?
SOTD is CdG Soda. This conveys the smell and tingle of effervence really well. Started as a lemon soda, one hour in it morphed into a gingerale, and several hours in it mornphed into a ginger and floral soda. Enough sweetness to realisitically mimic soda, but not so much that it is heavy. Reminds me of Chinotto Dark. Fantastic for summer.
Drinking French Gray tea today, bc I’m fancy. And because the bergamot & rose is a nice compliment to Soda.
That is one of the CdG I haven’t tried yet and definitely will one day
I’m wearing Bois de Violette today, I think that was my first BUB. I paid a lot for a bottle when it first appeared in the export range, then bought a second bottle when I found it much cheaper a couple of years later. Apart from the comfort of a BUB, that also brought down the average price per ml đ
SOTD = Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka
So good. Have a BUB!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CR4T7g7hKXK/?utm_medium=copy_link
In other newsâŠI live in a county in NJ for which the level of infection âqualifiesâ me to have to wear a mask indoors under the updated guidelines. I have been masking up anyway the past 2 weekends, with a very short 3-week mask freedom. Will it ever end ??
Ooh.. that owl is a definite piece of art! I’m afraid Myrrh and Tonka is not for me. I finally tried it a few weeks ago.
I don’t think this will end anytime soon. We don’t have another mandate here yet.
I donât necessarily trust the numbers anyway but I am sufficiently worried and do risk tradeoffs to determine which activities I should prioritize.
The owl is indeed artsy. I spied it on my way in to the museum and made sure I had enough time to peruse the gift shop.
I sure hope it ends! And I don’t have to tell you to be careful.
But, be careful.
Thanks AnnieP!
Although Virginia reach the original 70% goal, it has only around 50% of the total population vaccinated now. That doesn’t seem like enough to stop a highly contagious variant, and cases are ticking up again in my county. Since I’m older, I never stopped masking in indoor public spaces. Someone I know dubbed this “the new Forever War.” Maybe I’ll relax after some sort of booster someday?
BTW, it is possible for non-health workers to buy 3M N95s on Amazon again.
Itâs funny you mentioned the 3M N95s! My co-worker and I were just discussing this today!
I think age does not by itself the only determinant of how much risk one can take but it is best to be more cautious.
I see a cat reflected in the silver cap!!
Good eye! Youâre the 2nd person who commented on it! Itâs actually a cat washi tape strategically placed to avoid the dreaded reflection of the photographer taking the picture ?.
Hi everyone! I’m having a lovely day off, despite the horrid heat and humidity here. I don’t have a single BUB because I’ve never actually finished a full bottle! I’m working on it though!
Today I’m sampling Ojai Wild White Sage Leaves. I like it okay, but it’s reminding me of something else that I can’t quite put my finger on. Maybe it will come to me later.
Gotta do some errands now but will be back later to read the rest of the comments.
I bought two or three BUBs early on, before I realized I would acquire more perfume than I could use in a lifetime. And the BUBs are mostly the wrong ones, anyway. ?
Yep, I already have more than I can use up in my lifetime, I’m sure! I’d also be afraid my tastes would change and I’d end up with the wrong BUBs too, if I ever bought any. I hope you can make use of yours anyway, or trade them away!
Yeah, I intend to trade them or list them as freebies someday.
I’m in Le Labo Iris 39 today. Haven’t taken this out for a spin recently so today is a good day for it. I have a 15 ml with barely a dent in it so will have to wear this more often.
Thoughts, Gail? Is it pretty, powdery or earthy, root?
It’s not overly powdery like Iris Poudre, nor rooty like ISM. Today I’m picking up more of the dry spiciness, probably the cardamom and ginger. I also have the oil (if that’s any indicator to you). There’s always room for another iris in my collection!
Definitely worth picking up a sample to test it out.
Thank you! That was a great review. I am relatively new to Iris.
And, I’m seeing the love ya got for it!
What Gail said. I would have said none of the above ?. It is indeed dry and spicy!
You are too much. I love cardamom, so I think Gail gets an enabler pin.
Milk choco day? Gives me an excuse to buy some M&Ms:)
I may go on a retro perfume kick cuz just not sometimes not impressed with modern day perfume industry…smelling white musky sweet nothings that have sold like hot cakes….the discontinuation of so many good perfumes…brands that had great perfumes but generally are meh now Kilian, Lutens…just to name a couple….lol cranky maybe I do need some chocolate! Haha.
Samsara. Guerlain. Exquisite:)
Agree with everything!
I have not met a Samsara I did not like! And, there are *deals* on Ebay…just sayin’.
Exquisite. You smell great!
Sotd is Black Orchid Parfum. I sprayed some on at Sephora earlier. My son said I smell like a pumpkin ? lol. I think it’s the earthy smell he’s picking up.
Expecting bad storms overnight. I went and bought bags of ice for the freezer in case we lose power. Fingers crossed we don’t.
It would be so great if someone ( not me, of course) would fix the problem of power outages.
I used to get ready last minute. Get lots of water filled from the house, wipes for showers, but the shelves were usually empty for anything else.
Crossing fingers!
Thanks AP! You just reminded me about the water jugs.
Fingers crossed for you! I just texted my mom today and they have been without power since Monday night. Luckily âsomeoneâ talked them into getting a generator a few years ago.?
Every year I think about getting a generator but they are so expensive! I would need the kind that doesn’t need my help, lol.
I wish they could come up with a way to cover the power lines, and while they’re at it, have some kind of canopy to keep snow off the roads, lol. It’s doable, I’m sure!?
Lol, totally doable!?
In Helsinki, the roads are heated.
A lot of people around here bought generators after a couple of blizzards and a big derecho some years ago. Good luck!
Derecho has been mentioned as a possibility. I’m keeping in mind that my local weather people like to keep me scared and watching.
The Capital Weather Gang is really solid — no unnecessary hype.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2021/07/28/derecho-midwest-great-lakes-thunderstorms/
One of the bad things about a derecho is that so many people may be left without power at the same time, so the it can take days afterwards to restore power. Be sure to charge up all your devices and have power packs on hand for your phones, if possible. Good luck!!
Also, note that they will keep updating this post and it may be worth refreshing later for updates.
Also, the Twitter account for your nearest National Weather Service office would be worth checking for solid updates.
Hope you won’t get flooded or lose power.
I hope you weather the overnight storms alright! This time of year, I keep a couple of gallons of water frozen in the bottom of the freezer — we’ve managed to get through 6-day power outages without the freezer thawing this way.
I never heard the word derecho before! Hopefully they have passed you safely by, by now!
SOTD: VS Bombshell from last summer. BUB of the spritz. Also, layered with VS Crush. BUB and BUB of spritz. Great together and the heat.
Thanks for all the rev’s for the Honeysuckle perfumes and Iris lotions, yesterday!
Is Goutal available to order in the U.S. anymore? Asking for a friend.?
The Goutal US website is gone, that is all I know.
Iâm in Assam of India again. Tomorrow is my Friday.?
Yay for Thursday/Friday! I hope madtownteen is doing well at camp! I have a bottle of Oud Al-Sahraa coming, which will be my second test of Berdoues. The other was Peng Lai, but I really only remember it did speak to me. Excited to see what this oud-about. đ
Thanks MossyBerry! More storms predicted for tonight so Iâm a little worried.
Yes to Friday!
??
Chiming in late, but yesterday’s SOTD was Chanel’s Paris-Deauville. So refreshing and pretty! Perfect for a day back in a real office. I’m working from home again today (Thursday), so I may go rogue and wear something outrageous.
