It's Almost-Friday, Mango Day and Hammock Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of Monocle + Comme des Garçons Scent One: Hinoki for David Rose of Schitt's Creek.
Reminder: 7/23 will be Sitcom Friday...name a favorite sitcom, and wear a fragrance that reminds you of the show in general, or one of the characters.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Been lurking for awhile, first time posting. SOTD is also hinoki (just some perfume oil I picked up from a farmers market a couple of summers ago). It’s so hot where I live, this very light fresh smell is perfect!
Hello there!
Hello!
Welcome Adrihazel, looks like we are scent cousins today!
Thank you! I’m so impressed by this website and all the people running it!
It is a wonderful place. Welcome!
Welcome! 😀
Thank you! Your SOTD sounds beautiful!
Welcome!
Welcome!
Welcome to the club!
Hello and welcome!! This place is one and only!!
Hello – I lurked a long time and was really glad when I finally joined the fun 🙂
Hello! I’m excited to talk perfume with people!
welcome!
Good to see you join, I bet you smell great.
*waves* Hello! You smell lovely!
Thank you!
Welcome!
Hello and welcome!!
Hello Adrihazel! Nice to meet you. I was new to NST a few months ago and everyone has been very welcoming. It’s a good group!
Thank you! Nice to meet you too!
Hello and welcome Adrihazel!
Always happy to see new blood!
Hi there! I lurked for a long time before I started commenting here. NSTers are a great group of people.
The last of my Penhaligon’s sample set: Blenheim Bouquet, citrusy and peppery, old-fashioned in the best way. Sort of the epitome of classic men’s cologne. Perfect for work, which is convenient because that’s where I am.
Sorry you’re at work though!
Blenheim Boquet is one of my favourites. It’s one of my „gotta get tough and get on with it“ work scents. Don’t ask me where the „tough“ comes from – certainly not the scent. Maybe the association with Churchill?
Maybe! I can see it, though: it smells very crisp and professional, very roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-to-it, the exact opposite of the dandified Hammam Bouquet (which I wore on Monday and also love). If this were more men’s signature scent I wouldn’t mind it a bit.
You smell great today! Blenheim Bouquet is the one Penhaligon’s I own.
That’s a good description of BB, thanks! I have been trying to appreciate citrus and “Summertime” fresh scents lately, but so many citrus notes get all sour and bitter on me – grapefruit, lime and most oranges. That leaves out a lot!
it’s supposed to be Prince Charles’s scent.
three sprays of OJ Damask for a warm day.
We are finally warm but not hot! Have all the windows open 🙂
nice. Cali is hot, even by the Pacific. but it’s a dry heat….
I’m sampling Memo Sicilian Leather this morning … and, of course, falling in love with it. What’s not to love? Leather, of course, but bitter orange? Yes! Violet leaf and cedar? Please! Cardamom and coriander? Always! If I run across a travel spray I’ll leap on it with the speed of one of Miss Fisher’s wombats.
This one sounds so good!
That’s the way I feel about Winter Palace: what’s there not to love? Starting with the most beautiful bottle design like ever to a masterpiece of a scent.
I love it too. After the first two hours it kind of disappears on me. let us know what you think by the end of the day!
It was lovely right up to shower time – very good longevity over those four hours, but not a lot of scent development (it prolly needs more time than I gave it). Then post-shower, because the notes are similar (on paper) and I had a sample, I switched to African Leather to do a back-to-back comparison. Sicilian Leather wins over African Leather for me! African has a geranium note that’s a little bit sharp, and Sicilian has a lovely dusty note, meant to evoke Mt. Etna I think, that works much better on me.
That scent sounds divine. The one time I visited Sicily the trash collectors were unfortunately on strike and people had reacted by simply leaving refuse wherever, but I admit that that’s hardly a fair or everyday representation. I’ll try to think of Sicily smelling like this instead! Far more romantic.
Marshalls and TJMaxx online have had decent deals on FB of Memo Paris lately, if you decide to go that route. No affiliation, just hunting deals.
Wait, sorry, I mixed up Sicilian Leather and Italian Leather. IIRC, SL is a new one, so it’s probably not discounted yet.
Wow, I had never been to TJ Maxx’s website, and am amazed to see that they have $2,000 handbags for sale. Yikes. I also saw several Memo fragrances — who knew? Well, probably everyone but me, I guess. ?
We are house twins!
??????
SOTD: Fendi Uomo, just because. Haven’t posted in a long, long time but do visit here often. Where does the time go?
Oh, you smell amazing! I love Uomo.
Hi all, SOTD is Clarins Eau des Jardins, aromatic greens and very refreshing. I’m zonkered, five faculty hires in one week, I’m ready for Friday. I’ll be at UCSF for a procedure, I’ll have a great Disco nap.
Today’s joyful discovery, Bhangra dancer Gurdeep Pandher’s videos on Youtube. Love this! So much fun and joy. 🙂
Yes, his videos are great! Fun to see the seasons change up there, too. 🙂 I found his videos on LinkedIn, of all places!
He’s fantastic!
A few years back, Kevin and I joined the “Walk with a Doc” group, we’d meet once weekly on a Saturday, at various locations. Several doctors would volunteer their time and expertise. The most fun session, by far, was the day we walked with a physician who I think was Pakistani. At the end of our walk, we had an impromptu Bhangra dance class, people of all ages, (including their dogs) joined in.
Good luck with the procedure.
Oh, he is a joy! Hahahaha I hope your disco nap coming up is quick, painless and refreshing.
Good luck tomorrow!
Hope that everything goes smoothly for you tomorrow!
Fav show! Watching it through again, actually.
And I like your pick for David, Robin 😉
SOTD: giving Dior’s new Eden Roc a try.. smells like a high-end suntan lotion.. salt, very light jasmine(?) and barely-there coconut
Curious about the body lotion if they make it.
I will watch it again at some point I’m sure. It is definitely in my top 10 all time favorite sitcoms. (And I could easily have done this project for another week.)
Inspired by both Ockeghem yesterday and the cartoons of my youth, I’m wearing Saturday.
So excited for tomorrow, I finally have inspiration for character and scent!
Saturday’s always so much fun! You smell wonderful! Looking forward to what you’ve got for tomorrow. 🙂
I’m wearing Florabellio today…not really CP-compliant, as I’ve no inspiration on who’d wear this one.
I do love your pick for David, too, Robin!
Thank you! I think it fits him, plus it would look nice on the shelves at Rose Apothecary 😉
SitCom. Good question. I owned my first TV when I was in grad school, so sitcoms weren’t much of a thing for me. The ones on tv when I was younger, I always found a little cringy–which is rich when I tell you which sitcom seems to be the one we can all watch as a family, Community! We are in the second season, which is definitely a personal best for me. If I had to pair it with a perfume, it would be something well done, dated, and mainstream: Ysatis.
In other news, I am wearing a perfume my husband hates–Diptyque’s Fleur de Peau. He thinks it smells like bleach. We’re driving down to Santa Monica late this afternoon, but I think the scent will have faded by then.
Community is my pick for tomorrow…did not watch it when it was out, but currently on season 3 and loving it.
OMG! Okay. Well, then I will HAVE to sign on to see what perfume you pair it with. 😉 😉 😉 !
Never heard of Community, but I <3 Ysatis – glad you reminded me of it.
It is a beauty!
You smell fabulous in Fleur de Peau and I haven’t seen Community yet but my 5 minutes of stardom was in a sketch I did with Joel McHale when he was just getting his start on a local comedy show here in Seattle. When I’ve run into him in town more recently, he is still down to earth and accessible and of course very funny.
Community is weirdly addicting–for being a little half-baked. But you’ve got to credit the producers for figuring out a sitcom formula that includes John Oliver, Chevy Chase, Donald Glover!, and Ken Jeong (and even Jack Black and Lee Majors in episodes!) as regulars on the show.
I just noticed that all the actors I named are men.
Huh. The women are funny too, but I did not know them before I saw the show.
Ysatis was my mom’s signature for a long time, a long time ago. I remeber the name and the bottle, but not the scent. She’s a Jo Malone fiend now, but I should see if she has an old bottle stashed away and give it a try.
Community is great. Just in case you haven’t been warned, season 4 really suffers from Dan Harmon’s absence, but season 5 is fantastic, so don’t give up if you are disappointed with season 4.
Oh, vintage Ysatis is gorgeous. One spritz is all I use, it opens beautifully, spicy floral with an oakmoss, amber, and resin dry down.
Wearing Cristalle EDT today 🙂
You do smell great Dorsey!
Twins! Perfect for this summer day, when I still have to work…
Love it! You smell great!
Fabulous!
Hello.
Wearing Pleasures today. Let’s see how the heat will bloom this fragrance.
Drinking cold brew coffee.
I was thinking of Pleasures today but wasn’t quite feeling it. You smell good.
Going to work today in no 5 edt. I’ve been wearing tons of no 5 today.
Which candles are you burning?
Two Honeycrisp Apples, one Rose Water Ivy and one Honeysuckle Bouquet. All from Bath and Body Works. I have hoping to have them finished by Sunday or Monday and then I can start a different candle.
Hammock day! That’s worth celebrating. I recently acquired a hammock and feel instantly more calm any time I get in.
Sotd is Chanel 31 Rue de Cambon.
Happy hammock day.
You smell amazing and enjoy your hammock.
Not to be woo-woo, but I have a theory that being in a hammock triggers some deep, hidden memory of being in the womb. A few minutes in a hammock can work a minor miracle for me in terms of making me feel safe, soothed, and totally at peace.
Whatever it is – it works! As you say, even after a few minutes safe, soothed and at peace.
In like 6 sprays of Ashoka all over. Wow. This was an amazing blind buy – exactly what I think every time I wear it.
You smell great!
Thank You Teebear!!
Givenchy Eau de Givenchy for second day in a row
You smell so good! I went through 2 or 3 bottles.
So did I 🙂
Mimosa and Cardamon from a lovely NSTer
Sipping chai tea all day long, in laws arrived safe and sound.
Yay! And that’s a great scent. Probably my favorite JM.
I have sampled many JM but I do like this, and it’s an easy go to fragrance
You smell great, and are in a great situation!
Hooray all around!
Great news!
So glad!
Second day of EldO Vierges et Toreros since it’s warm out and it actually sits better on me in heat.
Currently walking to work with a tray of Hawaiian butter mochi for my coworkers to celebrate the official start of dress rehearsals for the exhibition! We are full steam ahead to open next week, here’s a sneak peek although my role is still being kept secret, whomp whomp:
https://youtu.be/-JCCDZ8p84E
Wah wah, it says one needs to sign in.
Yup, says video is private.
Oh no! Thanks for mentioning. That’s so weird! I’ll see if I can find a public link for tomorrow.
Sotd is BDK Crème de Cuir and thinking of Omar Sy in Lupin. It’s an unexpected leather with a citrus opening. Captivating.
Bear with me here on trying to be CP compliant. I’m doing a mashup of Coromandel and Orchidée Vanille. Why? Well I did a search on some candle scents named Caspian. They tended to be spicy, ambery and vanilla.
My tribute to Latka Gravas, who hailed from the fictional country of Caspia.
I’m sure Latka would “thank you very much” for the tribute! ?
Excellent!
I’m wearing Mint 26, from Imaginary Authors, for a perfect summer day.
Is that different from Saint Julep? I’ve used that scent a lot this summer ?
I think it’s an early version of Saint Julep. A bunch of Portland perfumistas visited Josh in his studio and he gave us bottles of Mint 26. Such a sweet man.
That sounds like such a fun experience! You smell great!
Hello all!
SOTD: Jasmin (Molinard), while drinking an all morning iced coffee. I smell great and the house smells great.
Nice 🙂
A beautiful summer day, mostly spent at the hospital. It turns out my suspected sprain is a fracture, so I’m in a cast and will probably have surgery but it will be a welcome time of inactivity.
Noa l’Eau during the day, a fruitier Noa with the same smooth musk, and this evening vintage l’Air du temps EDP.
Oh, so sorry you’ve had to spend your beautiful day in such a setting and that your injury is worse than you thought! I hope you have people to pamper and take care of you and that your inactivity can be very restorative!
Thank you Isabella, I’m well looked after for groceries by very nice neighbours and in a way I welcome the enforced break?
I’m glad you went and got it checked. Now you can be on your way to healing.
Thank you Lillyjo, yes and I think I’m in good hands, that’s something.
Sending you lots of healing vibes. And glad to hear you have some good neighbors to help you!
Thank you Tulipani, good neighbours definitively are a godsend.
I’m glad you had your injury checked out and now you can rest. You are smelling fantastic!
Thank you Gail, it will be a nice break, ‘l’Adt vintage EDP is so pristine, I will have to compare it to my absolute favorite the parfum de toilette.
Oy! Glad you got it checked out. I hope the surgery goes well and that the healing is fast.
Thank you Hajusuuri, I was a bit late as i didn’t contemplate there might be a fracture.
I’m saddened to hear that your wrist is indeed fractured, but glad that you got it checked out and didn’t try to tough it out through the pain.
Thank you Jalapeno, I suppose I’m accident prone ? lately just got to get used to it.
Oh drat. But glad you are looking forward to the rest!
Thank you Robin, yes the rest is a nice bonus?
Mango day and hammock day?? Where do I sign??! No mangoes at hand, alas, but I do have a lovely hammock and intend to spend some time in it this evening with a good book.
Wearing Moon Bloom but can’t think of a television show that it would suit. And feeling very burned out about work in spite of all that I have to do this afternoon. Fortunately, I had a nice morning with my son and we picked two quarts of blackberries from the hedgerows on the old ranch where we live. I’ve been freezing them in batches so that we can bake a pie, though the house gets so warm these afternoons that turning on the oven sounds pretty grim.
I’m afraid I would fall off a hammock.
? You can come use mine, you definitely won’t fall
It will be pie weather eventually!
My husband loves hammock time, but it’s been mostly too hot. I am fonder of the chaise lounge 🙂
Clear sky this morning after days of rain – yay!
We’ve recently been watching a lot of Futurama, does that qualify as a sitcom? I can’t think of a perfume to associate with it, so am going with a regular favourite, 31 Rue Cambon.
Yes, Futurama is definitely a sitcom in my book!
SOTD is Chanel Boy. I could picture Johnny Rose from Schitt’s Creek wearing this!
Yes, perfect!
I’m in Love’s Fresh Lemon. Would pair this to Marcia or Jan Brady from The Brady Bunch.
Perfect match!
I went back and forth on this CP but settled on the series “WandaVision” (runner-up: The Kominsky Method). What scent goes with WandaVision? Wanda Maximoff herself is a witch (“the Scarlet Witch”), so that gave me some guidance. I have several witchy scents. I settled on The Longing, by House of Matriarch, because the whole theme of WandaVision is her longing for home, family, and love. It’s beautiful and unusual, like Wanda herself, with notes of plum, jasmine, oud, orchid, gardenia, orange blossom, leather, amber, benzoin, and sandalwood, among others.
Longing sounds so good!
It’s very beautiful! The opening is a bit strong, and a little goes a long way. I also like HOM’s Trillium, and Epiphany. I reviewed Trillium here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/tag/trillium/. Epiphany is lavender-centric with oakmoss and sandalwood in the base.
Popping in late to say that that sounds interesting. I haven’t yet watched “WandaVision,” but I read the comic books. (lol!)
I’m in Beekman 1802’s Rose Apothecary for Schitt’s Creek. Beekman 1802 seems a lot like David’s idea for what he wanted Rose Apothecary to be, so I like that they are the ones who make this. That said, I can’t image David actually selling this at the store — its basically “just” a rose jam (one I happen to like). Patrick would probably appreciate the mass appeal of it tho.
Drinking Georgia Tea Co. Chai mixed with a bag of Twinings English Breakfast.
Glad that you got the Beekman! I saw it for sale one day; then when I went back to get it, it must have completely sold out.
I love the Beekman line!
I grew up with reruns of Gilligan’s Island, I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, and Bewitched, with a little Dick Van Dyke Show, Andy Griffith, Happy Days, and a lot of Three Stooges shorts thrown in. Good times! I am still a die-hard Lucy fan. Currently kind of a nostalgia lover of The Goldbergs (how are there no Emmys for this show?) and The Connors. No SOTD yet. After my husband and I have our ballroom dance lesson, will probably put on Shalimar Philtre or Le Lion. But they would be a little overpowering up close for our pregnant instructor, I think. Very curious now to try Black Opium Extreme.
Ballroom dancing! How fun! I’m sure you will smell good regardless of which one you chose!
I grew up with all of those too! Lucy is indeed timeless — some of the rest of them do not seem to have aged that well.
Running a little late today. I’ve been packing for my upcoming trip out to help with yet another move for my Mom. I will probably be going radio silent after tonight. ??
Mango day, huh? Guess I was 24 hours early. ?
Favorite sitcoms over the years have been Gilligan’s Island (hey, I was a kid!), The Jeffersons, The Golden Girls, The Simpsons, The IT Crowd, The Goldbergs, and Modern Family.
Stay safe and well NSTers.
SOTD = another day in Love Osmanthus.
You are stuck good :-). I would wait until the Sephora sale in October / November … and I can send you some to tide you over if need be.
I wish you well on your trip out. I hope your mom’s move goes well.
Thanks. I’ve had some pretty grim discussions with my brother lately, because of the ramifications of this move.
Safe travels Jalapeno!
Thank you lillyjo.
Safe travels, hope things will go as well as possible.
Thanks Aurora.
Very best wishes to you and your mom and your brother…hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.
Thank you Robin.
I hope everything goes as well as possible, Jalapeño. Will be thinking about you and your family and sending positive energy.
SOTD = Memo Paris Sintra
So perfect! Musky, green, orange blossom, milky vanilla and marshmallow ?

In other news, I participated in a virtual masterclass yesterday where 2 people pretty much read through word by word a poorly designed PowerPoint presentation. I wrote to the organizers to vent but did not ask for my money back. Bottom line, I could just as easily have read through the materials myself!
I am back to masking in grocery stores. I am scared sh-tless of the delta variant. I really think we’re now on our 3rd or is it 4th wave? I’ve lost track because it just seemed continuous. Tomorrow, I will just attend the memorial service masked, quietly enter and quietly depart. On Sunday, I am going to a memorial dinner (for my parents’ friend who passed about a month ago, in her mid 90s) so will need to be vigilant about where else I am spending my risk points.
I don’t blame you one bit for masking up in public. I’m doing the same.
Have we seen that owl in your Insta before? It’s adorable!
Yes, in February 2021!
Ooooops. My bad.
Sintra sounds *lovely*! And I’m with you on masking — we’re seeing a lot of “breakthrough” cases in our region in fully vaccinated people, though thankfully folks don’t seem to be getting seriously ill.
Bad Powerpoints are just awful to sit through. My old boss used to do one every year that involved about 40 lines of bright yellow text against a faux-woodgrain background on each slide, followed by a serious of inexplicable graphs. The work we did was so interesting, but no one would know it from those presentations!
That does sound awful. I also don’t like our “corporate standard” of light blue and gray. I think powerpoints should pop.
I am scared too. I don’t understand why a year ago everything was closed, but now testers are back at Sephora? Masks and hand sanitizer are like .99 cents ( I am taking advantage of this) I feel like nobody cares anymore in my city.
Time to stock up on masks and hand sanitizer!
Yeah, well, the next time I go to Costco, I am buying another case of TP ? (backup to a backup).
Also, due to news that my friend’s family are anti-vaxxers, I decided an hour ago not to go in person and updated my RSVP. I wish they were more forthcoming but I am absolutely not taking any chances. I’m hoping to get the link to join the livestream.
Glad you found that out in time.
Yikes!
Glad you found out beforehand!
I’m with you on the masks. Mine are going back on and restaurant dining is going to go back to take-out.
Lovely photo!! Lovely owl!!
This thread is making me feel better. I deal with health & safety for my company and I feel like ppl think I am Chicken Little when I encourage them to keep wearing masks even after getting vaccinated.
My original sotd was Chance eau Vive. I stopped at ulta after work, and sprayed the new Coach Sunset. I don’t like it. Then I sprayed Angel Nova just to be sure I still hated it, and I do! Lol.
Thanks for the chuckle about Angel Nova lillyjo!
LOL ?
lol! I’ve had so many where I liked it the first time I tried it and then hated it the next time, so seems logical it would work in reverse some times.
