Monday, plus Daiquiri Day if that helps. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hiram Green Vetiver, which I found too much in hot weather last week. It's just right this morning (it's cool enough here to open the windows this morning, although I imagine we'll have the a/c on by early afternoon).
Reminder: 7/23 will be Sitcom Friday...name a favorite sitcom, and wear a fragrance that reminds you of the show in general, or one of the characters.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the top image shows the main cast of 30 Rock, one of a number of sitcoms I ignored while it was on the air but binged during the pandemic last year.
My favorite sitcom is All American and I am currently waiting for season 4 but from what I hear it won’t be til January of 2022…
Second place goes to the new Dynasty but it gets so complicated sometimes it is hard to follow it.
Oh, there’s a new Dynasty? Interesting! Years ago, I ran into Linda Evans in the Financial district of SF. Still stunningly gorgeous, those cheekbones were recognizable from a block away. đ
Wow I love such an experience of running into a celebrity!! Did You ask for an autograph? I certainly would!!
Yes there is new dynasty. Me. Blake’s affairs and situations are all there… Fun to watch but it gets sooo twisted LOL.
Unfortunately, no, I was so star struck that I didn’t ask for her autograph.
I walked by and barely mumbled “hello”. đŻ
Maybe not a sitcom since its French, but Call my Agent
SOTD to fit Twilly by Hermes
I have to put this one in the queue. Sounds like a perfect scent match.
it is funny..and there are movie stars that make appearances in the show
Itâs in French so I can use subtitles? I had started watching Lupin, but the dubbing was so awful I just couldnât.
This is such a great show! I’m wearing Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes today, and I could imagine a lot of the characters wearing it, since they all have egos the size of a child of a god! I can especially see Andrea, Hicham, or Mathias in this one…
I love Hichman (maybe because he is Moroccan and I am obsessed with that country)
Hello twin!
I absolutely think of Call My Agent as a sitcom! Great show.
What a fun show! And it’s a great one for scent pairing too…. you could do a celebrity scent. Hee hee!
I’m in my favourite Penhaligon’s scent, Hammam Bouquet, a dandyish powdery floral for men. It’s *really* powdery. It makes me feel as if I should be dressed up (as if that’s going to happen). It reminds me of a lot of unburnt papier d’Armenie, mostly the rose one that François Kurkdjian did â I have two booklets of that one to make sure I don’t run out any time soon.
That’s my favorite papier d’Armenie, too! My laundry closet smells like it right now.
I remember Hammam Bouquet from smelling it eons ago, and that’s exactly how I remember it — very powdery. I should dig out that sample kit one of these days — I wasn’t a huge fan but I do remember liking Hammam Bouquet and one or two others.
I don’t usually burn papier d’Armenie but I do tuck it into drawers or just leave a strip on my desk â it’s potent stuff! I’ve even used it as a bookmark for a pleasant surprise when I reopen the book.
I tuck away, too.
I’m wearing Eau de Cartier Concentree, which I really like. I’m not sure that I can wear anything stronger than an Eau or a cologne this week. Today the heat index will be at least 106. As to the CP, I have never been a fan of sitcoms. My sister did recommend that I watch Schitt’s Creek.
Schitt’s Creek is pretty great. If you’re going to watch one sitcom, you could do a lot worse.
Second Schittâs Creek!
Definitely Schitt’s Creek! I’m not a big sitcom watcher, either, but have binged this twice over the pandemic. I remember seeing the ads on bus shelters when the show first started on CBC, and thinking, “really?” The concept seemed too broad / obvious from the posters & name, but the show is actually quite lovely, and funny.
Me four.
I am going to be similarly lost. The last “sitcom” I watched… I honestly don’t know.
Mr. Teebear had me watch Firefly sometime in the last decade, that’s about all I’ve got.
I have the attention span of a goldfish for television. I always go awkwardly silent when people start discussing what they’re watching these days.
OoohhhhâŚ.that heat index. Stay safe.
I find binge watching some sitcoms to be soothing. Lately it’s been old episodes of Mom, with early 1930s Barbara Stanwyck movies in between. Having a hard time engaging with the world still, even though I’m fully vaxxed, so soothing is good. Wearing Coco Mad Intense, I think the character Jill on Mom would wear it.
Barbara Stanwyck was so great.
Wasn’t she? I thought no one could top Bette Davis but after watching Barbara I’m not as sure.
Madonna Truth or Dare Naked tonight. The amber with a few bells & whistles. It’s always so comfortable and warming. Perfect cool evening scent.
Was Bewitched a sitcom? I can watch it again and again. MASH is another.
I love MASH, guaranteed to get laughs.
YAY! Another fan. 100% guaranteed to get laughs, sometimes tears too.
I loved Bewitched! What a fun show to match fragrances to! So many oddball characters. What would you put Endora in?
Poison! Lol
âď¸ âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸!
Perfect!
I think I’d put Endora in Cabochard.
Or maybe LouLou because the bottle would match her favourite eye shadow.
Yes to the eyeshadow match ?
Spot on!
Cabochard or Emeraude!
I love MASH! Trapper or BJ? Burns or Winchester? Henry Blake or Co. Potter?
Definitely Burns over Winchester and Potter over Blake, but for me itâs a toss-up between Trapper and BJ. Bad Boy vs Good Boy. ?
BJ had his bad boy moments though. Remember, he had a thing with Kate Jackson in one episode! Trapper was definitely more funny.
I loved them all but if you make me choose. Trapper, Burns (because he looks like Tom Ford) and Blake.
Wait… who looks like TF? Burns? I have to go look now.
Yes, Frank Burns, Old Ferret Face is a dead ringer for Tom Ford.
When TF first appeared on our radars I laughed heartily.
Another TV lookalike is Andy Tauer and Ned Flanders from The Simpsons.
And hot lips! What a perfect nickname!
I think I’d have to flip a coin if it comes down to Trapper and BJ, both had their moments.
Bewitched! love that one….
YAY! Snap.
Yep, Bewitched is definitely a classic sitcom.
I must have slept wrong because I woke up with a kink in my neck.
Iâm in Hermès Eau des Merveilles. Just because. I hadnât worn it in awhile and it is always so good.
Today is packing and last minute preparations for madtownteen. She heads to camp tomorrow.? Her PCR test was negative. Yay! I really had no doubt but itâs reassuring to know.
Also meeting with the house painter today to pick out colors. Exciting. When we bought our house 11 years ago repainting was part of the negotiations but we didnât get to pick the color.âšď¸ And the sellers stuck with boring white. No offensive to those of you with white houses. I know itâs a classic color but Iâm ready for a change.
I used to like all white. Then I had kids..
Good luck to your daughter’s at camp!
Lol, you crack me up.?
Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your neck, what a bummer! I remember heading off to camp as a kid, I was always ready to find new adventures. I used to go to Camp Quinipet, on Shelter Island.
I wish I had gone to camp as a kid. I get to live a little vicariously through my kids. They have all loved going and share such great stories.
My dream as kid was to go to sleep away camp like they did in the Parent Trap. It looked so awesome! I was stuck with day camp in my town where they must have had rampant poison ivy because all I remember about camp is being covered in it (and buying Fun Dip at the concession stand, which was definitely not allowed at home đ ).
I hope madtownteen has a fantastic time!
Oh, I loved Fun Dip! That definitely wasn’t allowed in my house. I had to wait for camp to get any!
I had a deprived childhood…. *sulks*
House twins!
Sending healing thoughts-hope your neck recovers soon
Hey house twin!? Thanks ltsg.
Yay for camp, and for house painting! Have fun picking colours!
Thanks!
You smell amazing! I hope your neck feels better soon. What kind of colors are you leaning towards for the house?
Thanks sistine! Well, after spending many hours perusing the internet, I am thinking a dark steel gray with eggshell trim and black shutters, lighting, numbers and mailbox.
Gorgeousness!
That sounds awesome! And fun to get to choose.
Hope that the kink in your neck has worked itself out now! ?
So Iâm stealing Portoâs idea and playing the CP with Bewitched, since itâs been so long that Iâve regularly watched sitcoms, that I may as well go back this far, lol!
Todayâs will be YSL Y for Samantha. The day is not hot but awfully humid, so this should fare well. I hope.
Portia. Apologies!
I love that you picked Y for Samantha. What an excellent choice.
Thank you!
Good morning. Oh my gosh I. Love. 30. Rock! ?
Sotd is Twilly. I still havenât tried the new ginger flanker. Can anyone tell me if itâs any good?
It is so hot I am using my cup of iced tea as a cooling device on my neck.
Hi Twin! We smell so good…
I haven’t tried any of the flankers for this one
I tried the Poivree and wasn’t into it, which surprised me because I am a rose fiend. The pepper was more like ground pepper than pepper berries tho, and that made it too powdery for me. I had bought it from Costco online because they have it for a good price, but I waited until I could test it at the mall before opening it, and I’m glad I did because I returned it. That said, for someone who likes powdery & pink rose (as opposed to red) and wants one with some spicy zip, this is worth trying.
Thanks for your thought. I like the original Twilly. Its easy to wear and online some Hermes, its last on my skin!
*unlike some
Nancyleandros and I both sniffed it last Thursday at Saks. She liked it more than I did and sprayed some on skin. I thought it was just way too sweet and the ginger didn’t make up for that. After having it on for awhile she also found it too sweet. (Note: I also don’t like the plain Twilly.)
I see. Thanks! đ
Calypsoâs comment is spot on. It started out crisp and not too sweet, but gradually started reminding me of the Origins ginger, but a little heavier. YMMV, though.
I am glad we never saw it when it was on — I don’t think I would have liked it, whereas it was a real treat in 2020.
Wearing L’Occitane Verveine Cactus today which Robin posted about back in May. Very green citrus cologne and notes are accurate. I am loving it! Have been craving all things orange blossom since Sintra triggered and happily opened up my orange blossom brain receptor a few months back. ;)?Thanks, Robin!
https://nstperfume.com/2021/05/26/loccitane-verveine-cactus-new-fragrance/
Oh, then I am very tempted to get some of the body products!
Daiquiri Day! I love a classic daiquiri, a REAL one, not a frozen sweet one. So in honor I dug out Demeter Daiquiri ?
Favorite sitcom right now is The Big Bang Theory.
I still have never seen that! But I will get to it some day.
My favorites from BBT were the first 5 seasons. YMMV, of course.
Morning all, happy Monday ~ My SOTD is Jil Sander No. 4. I love it’s warmth, can’t wait for the dry down! đ
A few favorite sitcoms are….
Classics – MASH, Designing Women, Golden Girls, Night Court, Soap, Sanford & Son, Monty Python, Frasier, All In the Family, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, Absolutely Fabulous.
Contemporary – Schitt’s Creek, Scrubs, Modern Family, Insecure 30 Rock, Big Bang Theory, the IT Crowd, Sex in The City, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Derry Girls and Being Human are great….
Did you hear about the sex and the city sequal? Its just the 3 gals minus Samantha
No, I didn’t! I will definitely see it when it’s released! For the first two, a bunch of us ladies got dressed up, had cocktails and saw the movie. Fun times…
https://www.womenshealthmag.com/life/a37048888/sex-and-the-city-and-just-like-that-release-date-cast-spoilers/
Its a HBO series like the original
We are classic sitcom twins!
Oh, Night Court! So silly, but with such a good heart. And John Laroquette. â¤ď¸
Sounds like you could try Boston Legal, too! John Laroquette and James Spader (per your comment below) are both in it! I don’t know if it can be found anywhere, though. It wasn’t considered a hit in its day.
I sometimes watch clips on YouTube.
Yes, I completely forgot about Boston Legal! I loved James Spader’s character.
So many on your list are ones I’ve watched! We also started re-watching Mike & Molly; the entire cast is hilarious!
I have to add Mike & Molly to the watch list. Come to think of it, I always thought I didn’t watch much TV until I looked at my list.
Oh, I remember my brother and I sneaking in a few late night episodes of Monty Python or Red Dwarf on PBS when our parents were asleep back in the 1980’s! We were desperately choking down the laughs so we wouldn’t wake them up. Plenty of weird sounding snorts as a result.
Thanks for the flashback.
Where I lived as a kid, Flying Circus came on in the middle of the afternoon, around 2 I think. I didn’t understand why I was laughing, but I was?
Oh, some of their comedy is slapstick, so that would appeal to young kids. My brother and I were old enough to get the dry British humor…
In Glossier You so as to be polite while I attempt to stop in at a walk-in vaccination clinic this afternoon and finish off my shots!
I am useless for sitcoms, but when I’m not away on work, Mr. Teebear carefully curates some anime he thinks I’ll sit through while we eat dinner together. He knows my attention span better than I do, frankly.
Left to my own devices I watch nothing other than occasionally a movie and just read, read, read.
For anyone who likes NYC and mysteries, a friend recently lent me “The Dancer” by Eric Bernat and I recommend it! My friend, a Montrealer, didn’t quite understand the hype, but as a girl who grew up in Philly with an uncle working homicide, I could HEAR all the accents and the dialogue was just *chef’s kiss*.
You smell great! I wore that one to work a couple of weeks ago and got compliments from 3 different coworkers! Thatâs a record for me.
How do you like it? Good luck with your shot!
I quite like it although I tend to prefer fragrances with more personality. But thankfully I don’t seem to go anosmic to You as with a lot of the other “non-scents” – maybe because of the ambrette?
I don’t get the pear other people mention (so much the better in my case as I don’t like pear as a note) but just a mildly sweet cozy scent, like nice clean cat fur.
Even if I smell like “nice nothing” I do like to smell it occasionally, so that’s why You got my vote!
I’m with you on the no sit-coms, and honestly practically no movies, either. Unless I’m under the weather, I really struggle with sitting and watching television without doing *something else.* I can clean house or workout with something in the background. That’s about the best I do when I’m feeling well.
I hope you get your 2nd shot today!
Fingers crossed for success at the clinic!
I really like You. I have found myself craving it on occasion – Iâve only had samples, so Iâll probably grab a bottle at some point.
I really like it too. In case it factors into your decision, the pink and red bottle is much prettier in person than online (where it looked like plastic to me).
Fingers crossed that you were successful in getting that 2nd shot today! ?
Shot! My arm is a bit sore as it was last time, but no other side effects so far. Crossing my fingers for it to stay that way!
I have Tommy Girl on one wrist for Barbara Cooper from One Day at a Time. I have Gucci Rush on the other wrist for her sister Julie Cooper. Lol. I would put Schneider in Fabrege Brut and Ann Romano in Charlie, but I don’t have either one of those.
I loved that show at the time but have not ever rewatched any of them…the scents sound right though!
I have rarely seen it in syndication. I can still sing the theme song though, lol.
Have you seen the One Day at at Time reboot? With Rita Moreno? It’s surprisingly good. And I did not think that show needed a reboot…
I have not seen it. I will check it out!
Perfect scent/character pairings!
Thanks! I probably should have saved it for Friday, since that’s all I have so far. Lol.
I think Brut is spot on!
I know there are episodes with him slapping on aftershave for the ladies. In my head it has to be Brut!
Brut is PERFECT for Schneider!
He could have carried it on his tool belt, lol.
Belated Song of the Day here: https://youtu.be/tH2w6Oxx0kQ
In Azemour this morning. I have gaping holes in my sitcom memories depending on how busy I was in those years, and I didn’t own a TV for most of the 90’s.
I didn’t watch anything at all from late 1996 until about 2010, other than Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and that was only because a friend insisted that I come over to watch it with her once a week.
Oh, Buffy was definitely not a sitcom. Iâm just finishing season five, which Iâm convinced was originally meant to be the final season, and itâs dark. From what Iâve read, the sixth and seventh seasons get even darker, and Iâm going to skip them – sounds like they jumped the shark more than I can stand.
Oh, that’s a shame you won’t keep going! I’m a huge Buffy fan and have rewatched all of the seasons many times. I actually think season 6 is my favorite season, although I know I’m in the minority on that one. In any case, I agree, not a sitcom. Just the only TV I watched for a long while there!
Buffy is definitely a favorite! And Angel too…. I am a fan of the TDH (tall, dark, and handsome/brooding) type.
I donât think Iâm watching any current sitcoms (although I obviously need to investigate Schittâs Creek) â my favorite recently, er, deceased sitcom was/is The Good Place. Iâll have to think what most of the main characters would wear, but Tahaniâs is easy â she would either wear one of the JARs (if she was slumming), or something bespoke with saffron, real Mysore sandalwood and diamond dust in it. And Jasonâs would of course be that body-spray-slash-energy-drink that Pilboi and Donkey Doug invented (which I will NOT be replicating for the CP – eww).
Anyway, Iâm commando at the moment, being lazy. Tried Regime des Fleurs Little Flower last night, courtesy of the very generous Vee, and liked it very much â might be a new love! If it comes in a small size, itâs a done deal, folks. ?
My advice on Schitt’s Creek…watch at least 3 episodes before you decide! It gets better. Even better towards the end of season 1 & into season 2. I am really glad we were bored at the time because otherwise I would have given up.
But I loved The Good Place too, really glad my sister talked me into that one.
Good advice â Iâve been known to decide too quickly that a show is not for me. Iâll give it a proper chance. ?
I admit, I didn’t make it through that many episodes.
I’ll second Robin’s advice and go a little further. Multiple people told me to be patient with season 1 because it hadn’t quite found it’s grove, but that season 2 had the grove, and then season 3 it started to strut. I agree with that assessment 100%.
Vee, I think I’d have to be pretty desperate for distraction to give it a try. I truly dislike almost all modern comedies–Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, The Office. The acting style is like nails on a chalkboard to me; grates on my nerves in a visceral way!
Then may I recommend Bojack Horseman. Much darker humor than a typical modern comedy. Several episodes are straight up drama. That, combined with the animation, results in a very different acting style.
Also, I need an edit feature. I meant groove, not grove, above.
Yes — definitely get through the first season before you make up your mind. The pilot, etc. are maybe a bit too broad, but the characters start becoming real after that and it starts feeling like less of a Green Acres-y thing.
I’m afraid I rather dislike modern sitcoms of any variety I’ve sampled. Most of them are what I think of as “live action cartoons,” comedies based on over-acted one-dimensional personality types rather than fleshed-out characters. I really hate the over-the-top acting style that’s become so common in modern comedies. Sends me to cleanse my mental palette and go watch an old British drama when I need a moment to sit about. Sorry to be such a snob!
I think the last thing I watched with fidelity that might qualify as a sitcom was Boston Legal, which was a spinoff of The Practice, with William Shatner, Candice Bergen and other “mature” actors. It was very pointed and political, and when it became clear they were going to be cancelled, they got really jabby at networks and the television industry, too. The self-referential comedy made the audience feel like they were part of the in-crowd. Betty White was in it and truly hilarious–I’d be tempted to scent her with Youth Dew, since it is such a classic and still carries such strength!
For my own SOTD, I’m still sampling coffee and other scents from recently purchased DSH and Luckyscent samples. The last one I tried was DSH Cafe Noir, which was lovely–coffee and spices–but it only lasted about 2 hours on me, so that’s probably not going on the to-buy list.
Boston Legal is a great show.
Good to know I wasn’t the only one who watched it!
I thought I was the only one too!
I loved Boston Legal! And yes, the last season was snarkville city. I’d scent Betty White with Youth Dew, Opium, or Ysatis, cause she’s *spicy*.
I agree with all three of those choices! Maybe we can get Boston Legal to reappear on Netflix as a cult rerun. đ Like all the folks rediscovering Designing Women or Golden Girls.
Roaring back into fragrance-ness in Le Lion. To think that I avoided perfume for two weeks because of a stoopid guy, and then another week because of my dad’s bad attitude — I’ve had it! Life without fragrance is flat and dull and grey and those are three adjectives I have no use for at present.
My son approves — he just said, “What perfume did you put on? You smell GREAT!!!”
Welcome back, Isabella! You sound like you’re yourself again.
Yay! Fragrance is a much needed balm in life’s ups and downs. Is it too cheesy to say that you smell like yourself again?
Glad you’re back.
Welcome back- and I agree. This year has made me deeply grateful for my health and the retention of all of my senses, but especially scent!
Your son is so awesome!
For a 5-year-old, he’s pretty ace!
And Leo season starts this week- youâre perfectly in tune!
That’s right! Fun fact: I almost named my son Leo, or rather, Leonardo, but since he *is* a Leo I thought that might get him teased in school.
This is so precious!
Woohoo! Jumping back in with a fierce scent, and with affirmations from a son who has good taste and knows to compliment his mama! I can feel your energy radiating, Isabella. đ
Ha ha — well, I’m pretty darn tired and low-energy, but by golly I’ve got some attitude at least!
Yes, you smell wonderful – thanks to Clarissa at the Splitmeet I’ve be able to try Le Lion. FB worthy and on the list for later this year.
It’s really lovely! Suits me to a T, and perfect for days when Sous le Vent is a bit too too…
Hurrah! Welcome back, and props to your son for his impeccable taste and his ability to give a compliment! I take âstoopidâ as a really good sign (dismissing the ex with humor; well done you).
Why thank you! đ I’m old enough now to realize, looking back on the various tears I’ve shed over various persons, that not one of those people or situations was worth the angst I felt. I wish I could have learned that lesson a couple of decades ago, but it’s coming in handy now!
You DO smell great! And welcome back to life thatâs not flat, dull and grey. Your son is awesome!
Thank you! He’s pretty rad, I must say, and so far likes everything in my collection except POAL.
I love the trillium in your avatar!
?I just realized that a flower with a scent would be more appropriate. Oh well. ??ââď¸
Congrats on smelling great and stepping back into the light, away from the grey!
Hip hip hooray for your return to perfume! ???â¨
Let there be much rejoicing and fragrant wallowing!
Keep Calm and Waft On!
I’m in Sel de Vetiver today.
Not CP-compliant, I guess, as I’m not much of a TV watcher (except for the constant cycling stream going on in the background in my house lately) and don’t really watch sitcoms when I do sit down to see something. Schitt’s Creek is the only sitcom I’ve watched in…the last 10 years? Not sure who Sel de Vetiver would fit in that show…maybe Mutt, but then he’d be something more woodsy and masculine, probably.
Good call on the vetiver match with Mutt. Schitt’s Creek is starting over today with episode 1 on CMT.
SOTD JM Dark Amber and Ginger Lily.
Bewitched I loved as a kid.
I also loved the Dick Van Dyke show and That Girl. And Mary Tyler Moore.
I loved those shows, too!
Sotd is BDK Tabac Rose. Trying to resist a FB but I’m joining the Call My Agent crowd (Tabac Rose seems perfect for AndrĂŠa) and imagining her talking me into it…
And she *would* talk you into it.
Yes she would.
Cabotine, but no sitcom to match, because I never wanmtch them. I am more into crime or scifi. I am watching Blacklist instead, because… James Spader!!!
Heâs so charmingly weird.
James Spader… swoon ?
I’ll have to find something with Alexis from Schitt’s Creek energy for Friday. Bohemian in aesthetic but still expensive.
Today, Moscow Mule from JHAG. Still hoping something from this line will speak to me, but nothing yet. Was hoping it would be this one because I love ginger but it’s an ambroxan bomb.
They are all ambroxan bombs. The only one I love is Mad Madame. Midnight Oud is good too, is a little fecal imo.
I dont think Lady Vengeance was…but I have a dozen more interesting roses than that.
Maybe something from Heeley would work for your character match?
Good Morning!
1) SOTD: In Cap Neroli for a coolish morning into a warm day.
2) Replanted garden with basil, cilantro, celery, cucumbers and summer squash. Also, freshly replanted fennel and salad greens. I am starting to FINALLY get tomatoes! Hopefully the rest of the summer will stay steady like we have had so far.
3) SALE ALERT: Anthony Hopkins EDP is on sale. use code SAVE50!
Hooray for planting time. My yard is stuck in weeding/soil prep mode for the season. But I do have a nice habanero, thyme, and parsley in containers. And my potted jasmine is blooming and smelling wonderful. It is a tea-like, as opposed to indolic, variety. Some kind of tiny, metallic bee-like bug likes to hang out on it.
Oh you have jasmine! I bet that it makes the air smell so lovely! I like that more greener, tea like jasmine! I keep thinking about planting it in the backyard.
Container gardening is the best with herbs and peppers- you can move them around to get the best sun and bring them inside!
Yep, and you just reminded me to go move them! đ
Ohh, nice! We have a jasmine hedge in our neighborhood, it’s luscious.
My tomatoes and peppers are sprouting (I started late), I hope to have them in the ground in a few days. đ
We’ve harvested our first few tomatoes over the past week, and two zucchini, and the beans are finally happening. I can’t wait until the cherry tomatoes really start to crank and I can go back to living on various combinations of tomatoes, Bellweather Farms ricotta, and basil, either on garlicky toasts for lunch or turned into a quick pasta sauce for dinner.
Iâm trying Vacation by Arquiste today (thanks She-Ra!) because tomorrow Iâm going on vacation! Doing the chores/ packing thing today and being very excited. Headed to Las Vegas – I love the desert so much and itâs been way too long since Iâve seen one.
My Dame samples arrived yesterday so Iâll take those (and Vacation) with me and hopefully come home with some bottle-sized souvenirs.
Oh, and Vacation is fabulous. It smelled like pineapple lifesavers on first spritz, but has dried down into a gorgeous mellow tropical yum.
Have a great vacation!
Safe travels, and enjoy your vakay!
Have a great time! Hope you find some nice trinkets to bring back!
Viva Las Vegas!! Have a blast, sistine.
SotD = beautiful Japanese Cherry blossom body lotion + EdT. Love the way I smell today!!
Yay.
SOTD is PdN Balle de Match. Grapefruit, lime, black pepper; good for one of our rare humid days. Yes, y’all on the east coast and midwest can throw stuff at me for whining about a day or two with humidity.
Oooh, that sounds wonderful — I should get a sample of that.
It’s got a new name these days — I believe it’s L’eau de Sport now.
Well actually it looks like it’s discontinued under both names…
Oh drat, figures.
Well, sigh. Sounded lovely. Also like PdN L’eau Ă la folie. Fortunately have a bottle of that, though using it sparingly these days,.
like L’eau Ă la folie in that it’s discontinued, that is….
I love Ted Lasso. Binged it at my sister and BILâs house last month and would binge it again! Iâm in 31 Rue Cambon for Rebecca, because sheâs all business, but she eventually shows some softness toward the end of the season.
I thought Ted Lasso was excellent! My favorite show of 2020. I’m very excited for season 2.
I think the new season starts 7/23.
How have I never even heard of this show?
After googling: aha, because it’s about sports!
Yes, but don’t let that deter you from it even if sports isn’t your thing. It’s about sports the same way Friday Night Lights was about sports, or the way The Office was about a paper company. IOW, sports is the context but not the substance.
Ted Lasso (the character and the show) is sincere without being sentimental, and I think that is what makes the show so great.
Thanks Vee. I was deterred from Friday Night Lights too. But I will keep them in mind! The list is already so long đ
31 Rue Cambon is a great one for Rebecca! Actually many of the less “sweet” Chanels would be so good for her. I’m thinking No. 19, definitely.
No. 19 was definitely on my mind for her too!
Ted Lasso was so good! I resisted it for months and then it stole my heart. Hmm, what would Keeley wear…?
My sitcom today is Green Acres! I loved Lisa Douglas as a kid because she could explain everything to Oliver. No SotD yet, because I’ve in fragrant remnants on my tee shirt, but I think I will pick Chanel No. 5 for Mrs. Douglas. I am trying to imagine her dresser: Oliver gave her the No. 5, because as a busy lawyer, he only knew about the big names. I could see her picking up Miss Dior or maybe Diorissimo. The Wikipedia on GA is interesting, including this: “The roots of Green Acres derive from Granby’s Green Acres, a comedy show aired on the CBS radio network from July 3 to August 21, 1950…[2]” Who knew?
Another brilliant character/scent match. Now I want to watch GA â I am sure Iâve seen only half (or fewer) episodes.
Perfect match! Green Acres, oh man, everybody took turns explaining things to Oliver. It was surreal at times.
My old (2005) mini of Cartier Le Basier Du Dragon was calling to me today. I get coriander in the opening, which may be from age, but I like that coriander bite, so no complaints from me. Pretty quickly after I get amaretto that leans bitter/astringent and not syrupy. Indistinct, heady white florals and a whiff of rose in the mix, vetiver, patchouli, and benzoin. And I’m getting a musky dry down. I don’t get the chocolate or caramel; I’m not sure that I ever did. Overall, this is much less of a beast that I remember it being. Or perhaps my perspective has changed, because I got this during my L’eau D’issey years, and pre-Angel. (Although I had Eternity in heavy rotation then, so this shouldn’t have felt too out of my comfort zone).
I’m trying and failing to come up with sitcom character who would wear this. Daenerys Targaryen maybe, but that’s the wrong genre!
Drinking darjeeling today as the tea cabinet clean out continues. My sister wants to trade a box of her Twinings earl gray for a box of CS peach passion I have. It’s a wash on making space in my tea cabinet, but maybe I’ll drink it faster.
I need to get on the tea cabinet clean out also. Think Iâll make some iced herbal tea of some kind; I can drink it whenever due to no caffeine!
Interesting, your experience with Le Baiser du Dragon! I don’t get any bitterness at all with that one. It’s sweet and cuddly on me. No floral notes that I can pick out, either.
I have put this mini through some awful storage conditions, so it’s very possible that accounts for the bitterness. Around hour 6 today, it was all musk, so it that way it is cuddly.
Do you get caramel or chocolate?
Biscotti, amaretto, and maybe a hint of caramel are what come immediately to mind. A bit of vetiver, too, if a recall correctly.
“if I recall correctly”. Stupid typo.
Hope everyone is having a good start of the week.
I’m wearing Parfum d’Empire Acqua di Scandola today.
So far so good, and hope your week is going well too Lucasai!
I put on Lubin’s Kismet this morning, but I think my sample (2017) has died or something… The scent was faint-ish when I applied it, and nearly imperceptible in less than five minutes. Yet another reminder to go ahead and use up samples while they are still young. đ
Well that’s weird…I have had lots of samples go off, but I’ve never had one lose scent!
Sampling Rosa from Roxana Illuminated Perfumes. Pretty but nothing I need a full bottle of
My SOTD is Eau My Soul.
I find it very hard to watch traditional sitcoms these days, the laugh track really annoys me for some reason. Seinfeld was probably the last sitcom with laugh track that I enjoyed. I do love a few of the modern ones though, like Schitt’s Creek and Derry Girls.
Oh, Derry Girls! That one made me laugh until I cried!
I watched the first two episode of Derry Girls and it didn’t click for me, but based on the love for it here, I’m going to give it another go.
Also not a sitcom fan here and also due to hating the laughtrack, but frankly due to not finding things in them very funny.
When Mom was living with me, she loved to watch The Golden Girls on late-night TV. I’d never watched the show before, and I confess I did find a lot of that show quite funny, though mostly it was the characters and acting. Not sure what to scent Betty White or the others with. Blanche would have something pretty potent, like maybe Giorgio.
Last week shopping I bought an Acqua di Parma FB, to be discussed later. The SA gave me a lot of samples and also a travel spray of Osmanthus, with I love. Today I’m trying out Yuzu. It goes on quite fresh but develops more facets as it stays on. It has a rich floral, might be either the mimosa or lotus or both, that gives it character while it remains light in feel.
I feel confident we would smell perfume on the stage during the filming of Golden Girls! It’s so strange that that show is finding a new audience today, although maybe no stranger than me watching Mr. Ed on Nick at Night as a kiddo.
I think Golden Girls has a lot of audiences from the reruns. I remember the characters on the OC talking about how much they liked it, circa 2003. That led the future Mr. Vee and his best friend/roommate to watch a couple of episodes, which led to his entire crew of friends (all in their early 20s) becoming devoted fans of the reruns. 15+ years later they quote it to each other as often as they quote Caddyshack. It is just such a great show.
Don’t get me started about Mr. Ed! I loved that show…”A horse is a horse unless of course the horse is the famous Mr. Ed!”
I loved Mr. Ed, too: and Wilbur and Carol’s boss Mid-century Modern house was fascinating to me.
I think my all time favorite sitcom was “The Golden Girls”. LOVED Bea Arthur’s character!
Not even remotely close to wearing something that any of the main characters would have worn, though.
SOTD = Encens Jinhae again. I’m back in a little perfume groove, cuz I like it like that.
I feel like this should pair with a song. Whereâs lillyjo? Ha!
Quoting Enrique Iglesias there, so good catch on the song lyrics!
I thought it was a song reference but couldn’t place it.
I’m here I’m here!
This is the song that immediately popped in my head

SOTD = Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods
??
Like jalapeĂąo, no resemblance whatsoever to any sitcoms, but eh, maybe Iâll find something for Friday.
Somehow, this picture came out exactly how I wanted it to come out:

Itâs powdery, spicy, vanilla, sandalwood, tobacco and incense. ?
In other news, I went into the office again today as the rest of the week is impossible with too many back to back meetings (all Zoom), some double or triple-booked and the corded headset we got is quite big, heavy and the smallest setting is too big for me and I donât have a small or narrow head! If weâre asked to go in more often, I will probably do Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays. So far, Iâve heard that the powers that be are tracking in office attendance by name.
AndâŚin other perfume news, I may be liking LancĂ´me La Vie est Belle Intensement. Never say never ?. The SA was kind enough to decant some and I told her I will wear it tomorrow where I canât offend anyone but myself ?!
Introspective mood on your Insta pic today. At least, that’s how I perceive it.
Gobsmacked by your LVEB Intensement comment!
Thank you. I think the dusty green created the mood. The background matched some parts of the box.
The Intensement is ?.
Great picture! The perfume sounds nice too!. Report back on Intensement. I liked the Florale version, and honestly would have bought it if people weren’t picking on it so much. I’m weak to peer pressure, lol.
Thanks!
You are funny. I think I was overwhelmed by the overall lineup but âintenseâ always sounds good to me. Also, not that I am going to buy it from the online discounters but it seems to be more expensive even with the discount.
You really have to watch those discounter prices. They sometimes inflate the original price to make it seem like a deal.
The LVEB Intensement bottle is the prettiest of the flankers.
I did not even notice the bottles except for the signs that said âDo not touchâ – I was more than happy to have someone spray for me.
Intensement is pretty good. I need to find my little sample from Dillard’s. Just checking since email is wonky–did you get my reply?
Got it and replied!
Perfume PSA: Sonoma Scent Studio has brought back Lieu De Reves as a limited edition. I think a few NSTers have mentioned this one in the past.
Also, there is a 15% off sale on 15mL and 30mL bottles with the code “DOGDAYSOFSUMMER15”.
No affliation!
I wish Sonoma Scent Studio had a shop to which one could go, since it’s in my general vicinity!
SOTD was Paris-Deauville. Very pretty, but to my surprise I think I prefer Paris-Venise!
