It's Almost-Friday. RIP Eric Carle (of The Very Hungry Caterpillar) and Lois Ehlert (of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in full-on summer vacation in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
Reminder: 5/28 will be Summer Vacation Friday...wear a fragrance that reminds you of a favorite vacation, that fits an upcoming vacation, or that would work for a vacation you wish you could take. (If it's winter where you are, adjust accordingly.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Put on a little Lubin Korrigan from a sample vial, and then just dumped the rest of it on. Better to burn out than to fade away. It’s too good to dole out in tiny droplets: caramelly warmth and a ton of smoky cedar, probably my favourite wood.
Full bottle worthy then?
It *is* FBW, but I am trying very very hard to not buy anything new (which is why I’m determinedly burning through all my samples) and it’s pricey for me (180 USD = 220 CAD!)… but never say never. I win the lottery, I’m buying all five of the Lubin Talismania bottles justlikethat.
Hope the money will drop in your lap then 🙂
That sounds great! I’ve had tiny samples but need to get a real decant.
Hmm……. I love wood and, for me, when Lubin’s are good they are really good…..
Another gorgeous picture, Robin!
In Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess for the CP. It fits the warm, sunny, summery day, before we drop to the 50’s for the rest of the week and rains arrives.
Having my third cup of coffee in a very hectic work week. Looking forward to the long holiday weekend, yay!
Happy Thursday! ?
Happy Thursday to you
I need 3 cups of coffee as well, but having tea instead
Enjoy your tea ?!
Enjoy your third cup! I’m about to do the same!
Coffee twins! ☕☕. Enjoy!
Glad you will get a long weekend!
Thank you, Robin! Almost there!
I’m in one of my favorite summer scents, Balle de Match. Grapefruit and pepper, yum!
Double yum!
Feeling just a tiny pain in my arm when I raise it, nothing seriously bothersome after the vaccine.
It’s also my first day of holidays although I’m home until Tuesday, that’s when I’ll be leaving for the seaside.
Sotd is Nuda Veritas from Atelier des Ors.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CPXxw-QBjJA/?utm_medium=copy_link
I am 200 pages from finishing Crescent city..loved loved the book
Happy to hear that! The finale is beautiful.
I heard there is a sequel, hope it’s true. I will let you know when I finish
When I got the first COVID shot, I had a mild bout of flu-like muscle aches that lasted exactly twelve hours — you could have set your watch by it — and no other symptoms, except the injection site was sore for six days! Never had that with a flu vaccine, but all things considered I was lucky.
So glad you got the shot! I love Nuda Veritas, such a beautiful scent. I keep waffling about getting a bottle — haven’t sprung for one yet, but it’s on my mind. I first tried it and the other two in the White Collection when I was able to visit the Atelier des Ors’ office in Cannes, thanks to fellow blogger MeganInSteMaxime. I even met Jean-Philippe Clermont, the brand’s founder!
Essential perfumes Bois Imperial
woody basil patchouli
From this brand I onky know Orange x Santal which is nice.
Robin, I just heard from one of the perfume boutiques here that Marie-Helene Rogeon, founder of Les Parfums de Rosine, passed away today.
May she rest in peace.
Oh no. :-(. I had the good fortune to meet her in person at the Rosine boutique years ago when I bought Rose d’Amour at the launch. RIP.
Oh, how sad! Thanks for letting me know.
Oh no, how sad! She leaves a great legacy, I hope the brand continues.
SOTD is Heretic Smudge. I forget how much I like this.
You smell great!
Ooh, that’s a real beauty! You smell fabulous.
Another rainy day. Wearing Geisha Noire while we go out shopping for wood flooring. Any recommendations welcome!
My only advice is that while dark flooring is currently popular, I think it shows every speck of dust. I much prefer a mid-tone. Good luck!
I totally agree! I’ll be going with a medium shade.
I am on a virtual holiday in brasil and wear lots of Batucada. Now I crave a Caipirinha.
I love Batucada. Good choice.
Happy almost Friday everyone, my SOTD is GreenWitch by Roxana Illuminated Perfume. Not a cheerful beachy scent, it’s more inspired by a cold, blustery day at the beach in the Pacific NW. When it fades, I’ll apply Heeley’s Sel Marin.
And RIP Marie-Helene Rogeon (Les Parfums de Rosine).
Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts yesterday! Mr. SmokeyToes’ procedure went well, we enjoyed lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant (healthier than In N’ Out Burger)…. 🙂
Sorry to hear Mr ST is not well
I hope Mr. ST recovers quickly. And ummmm so envious of Your lunch. Nothing tastier than good japanese food.
It also eliminated dealing with the unhealthy food choices at In N’ Out Burger!! 😀
Yes, what majokkobiachan said. 🙂
That scent sounds incredible! Off to google…
Was wearing vintage BaV earlier today and now switched to Tobacco Vanille. Looks like it will be a cooler Memorial Day weekend in my area.
Ohhh how I adore BaV. It’s soooo good. I might put that by the bedside table to spritz tonight at bed time.
Started the day with Sycomore but not satisfying for some reason. I’ve added a couple of sprays of Chanel’s Venise which didn’t help.
Stay tuned.
Also enjoying the first peach of the season bought from our corner outdoor fruit & vege guy. If this is a taste of what’s to come I’m delighted. Not super juicy but sweet and perfect tartness.
I bought my first (flat of) peaches yesterday and am just beyond thrilled — they’re one of my favorite things in the world.
Peaches are the best! I love eating them and I love them in perfume. I can’t say that about everything.
Wow, peaches! Maybe I’ll find some at the farmer’s market tomorrow but I think it’s too early for here.
I am commando but about to shower and… Still go commando. Even though I really want to spritz Ashoka as usual I gotta be patient as my sample of Mohur arrives today and I’d rather save skin space for that…
Have fun with Mohur!
I’m in Un Jardin sur Le Nil today, twins with Robin.
My only regret is not having bought a big bottle of this but that can be easily remedied. It’s a lovely summer fragrance.
Looking forward to a long weekend of doing nothing ?
I regret not owning Sur la Nil every summer. Maybe this will be the year I join you in a big bottle!
Hey twin! I will never buy the big bottle, but I might buy another big bottle of the body lotion, which is better than the EdT. (Or used to be. Hope I am not in for any surprises.)
I love Sur le Nil, and I do have the big bottle! It’s such a perfect scent for hot, humid summer days.
Officially on an orange blossom bender just in time for summer! ?
Today I am sampling Oranzo and Olyssia…both are beautiful on the skin. I tried these on paper a few days ago and have come to the conclusion that paper strips are very misleading for me. Stuff never smells as good on paper as the skin. That said, sniffing on paper is helpful when one has so much perfume research and sniffing they are behind on. 😉
And just ordered the perfume below that Robin posted about yesterday. Excellent find! Orange blossom and vanilla…found another article w/ more details on the perfume below too…can’t wait to try it!

Do report back! I’m sorely tempted by the sunscreen but am worried it’ll be too sweet and banana-y.
Oh fun, do report back!
Oh, I was so tempted by the lemming! Please let us know how you like it.
I’m joining Robin in Jardin Sur le Nil. Cloudy/rainy today but weather prediction is good for our camping trip this weekend.
I’m looking forward to trying the new Diptyque Ilio (the one with cactus on the bottle), anyone else?
Ohhh have fun camping! I will go look up the new Diptyque, hadn’t heard of that one!
Yes me too, I would love to try the Diptyque one with the cactus on the bottle.
I’m itching to try that one, too!
We are triplets!
So glad you will have good camping weather. Camping in rain is not my thing.
I hadn’t even heard of the new diptyque! But I love cacti and the desert…
Wearing Audacious from melisand61’s split. It’s so good! To my nose it is honeysuckle nectar with a bit of incense and sandalwood.
The splitmeet was my first foray into blind buys. I figured a 10 ml commitment to scents that have already been vetted by NSTers would be safe bets. It’s one for one so far.
Drinking Clipper Ship’s Chocolate Pu’er again. I think this would be really good in a tea-latte, or as a panna cotta.
Oh I have a problem with blind buys all the time… But actually they seemed to work for me every and each time except for once when I burned myself on it. It was Angel’s Share and it was expensive and I didn’t like it at ALL. But my toddler daughter “helped” me on that matter by smashing the bottle against the wall…
😯 Oh no! That’s some expensive (but mighty fancy) air freshener!!!
Angel’s Share didn’t work for me either. I kept wishing it didn’t have any cinnamon. His Apple Brandy was everything I had hoped AS would be, with the addition of a bit of apple (which I like but I know many ppl don’t), so you might give that one a try.
Wearing Seville a l’aube on the first day of sunshine in weeks here in the Uk! Feels like summer is finally on the way here! ?
Mmm, you smell wonderful! Three cheers for your sunshine!
2nd all of that!
We’re having typical Oregon-spring weather today, meaning sprinkles and sunshine alternating about every five minutes, so I chose Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur to keep me company.
Same weather here in Seattle. I keep trying to get out for a walk and missing my window of sun.
Yes – by the time one finds one’s shoes and keys, the sun is gone. Of course, one’s walk would have to be limited to about 5 minutes anyway, so maybe it’s for the best. 😀
Eau le blue. I don’t think Blvgari can make a bad fragrance. I don’t care if it’s mainstream, they all smell great and are at deep discount. I just realized I have 5 Blvgaris and there are more I want.
I enjoy Bvlgari perfumes, several are absolutely fantastic and at discounters, are reasonably priced…
I do think they can make a bad fragrance, but they do better than most for sure! There are easily 5 or more I would not mind having.
Here’s a quick funny video from one of my favorite perfume YouTube people
https://youtu.be/zm1amAjGWh4
Sotd is Aedes de Venustas signature. I decided that I probably won’t get around to using my back up travel spray. If any U.S regular Nster would like to swap for an unloved travel spray or partial bottle let me know. I’m gmrazoog in the village of yahoo’s. My travel spray has been sprayed a few times to test the atomizer.
Haha – great youtube clip.
?
In the village of yahoo’s. Lol, love that. How was your son’s interview?
He thought it went well. He told me some of his answers to their questions, and I am not so sure to be honest. Keeping my fingers crossed still.
I’m wearing Crabtree & Evelyn Carnation Toilet Water, issued in 1988 and found at Goodwill for $3. It smells fantastic. Hoping for a break in the showers so I can go for a walk soon. In the meantime I’ll return my library books.
Wow what a steal You got!!
Seriously!! And old carnation is better than new carnation for sure.
My Goodwill store is so odd. A flimsy, broken-wheeled suitcase was priced at $20, but the perfume is $3.
Very off CP wearing Eau de Protection. Maybe for an autumnal vacation in Scotland or Yorkshire. It feels very moody and dark and not in the least like Python’s Holy Grail (which was filmed in Scotland).
I had not worn this in a while and it is just one wonderful, moody rose.
A rose perfume with thorns, I like to say.
Diptyque Vetyverio, which always reminds me of my trip to Miami five years ago, where I first sampled it, and came home with samples. I used all of them and I finally bought a bottle about a year ago.
Am usually so-so about vetiver, but this is a really nice one.
Vetyverio has pleasant associations for me, too. It’s the first less-mainstream perfume my younger sister really liked, so I got her a bottle for a birthday, and she smells fantastic in it! You smell great.
It’s a cool and rainy day and am in Elixer des Merveilles, my saltiest perfume.
Love that one..you smell like a sea water goddesss
Oo, I thought I’d tried all the Merveilles-es but wasn’t aware of this one. I want to smell like a sea water goddess too!
Sample of the day is Wasanbon.
So thrilled that the movers will probably arrive with our stuff June 10 rather than June 26. I miss my cookbooks and perfumes but at least I have some samples and decants
It’s always wonderful to get settled after a move. Gotta have those cookbooks and perfumes!!
I’m so happy your movers will be there two weeks earlier than you expected! That’s great news.
Aww, those are two of my favorite things, too. Glad you’ll be reunited soon.
Great news to get your stuff sooner!
Wearing Habanita from an old bottle with a half broken cap, if the juice is good I don’t care about the vessel it comes in.
A great bottle with a not great perfume is much worse than a great perfume in a not great bottle.
Ah, so true Lillyjo, plus a great perfume in an unappealing bottle you use it, so then it’s gone.
I’m scented with various things on my fingers today because I’m making a bunch of samples to send out to two NSTers!
Yesterday I tried the new fragrance from Maison Violet, Compliment. It’s a really lovely tuberose and white flower scent that would work nicely in the warm weather. Tuberose scents are not my favorite (with the exception of Carnal Flower), but I would recommend this to fans of the note.
Thanks to you all for your kind words yesterday. Perfume people are really great.
I enjoyed Do Son all day today, which is now drowned out by grass clippings and sweat from a quick after-school mow. Does that mean I can skip the workout today?
Yes! Without question.
Oh, I suppose I shouldn’t be heartbroken that Eric Carle lived to the ripe old age of 91, but I’m so sorry he’s gone. My son loves his books, and we love re-watching the Mr. Rogers episode where he goes to visit Eric Carle in his studio and he shows how he makes his painted papers and collage-creatures. Just magical.
I’m still scentless today due to a vague intimation of a montly migraine, but I may splash on something gentle a little later. SMN Caprifoglia is calling to me from the cupboard…
I learned he had died when one my students walked in looking sad. I asked her what was the matter, and she said “The very hungry caterpillar man died” and started to sniffle. I loved his work, and it obviously was adored by multiple generations.
My mother, a retired librarian, had heard the news before I had. She also feels that 91 is a good old age to reach, but she was a little sad. Her favorite jobs of the various library jobs she worked in her career were those where she worked as a children’s librarian.
I can imagine that must have had its wonderful moments! I still remember so many of the children’s librarians who nurtured my love of books as a child. I bet there are many who remember your mother equally fondly!
In D’Orsay Vouloir être ailleurs again and loving it. One of my colleagues said “What is that scent? It reminds me of my childhood.” That’s Linden flower for you.
So maybe that colleague had that “15 years old growing up in France with linden” experience!
You took the ad copy right out of my mouth!
I’m wearing Safran Triublsnt today because someone mentioned it recently. I have no particular travel in mind but it lends itself to thoughts of someplace exotic.
Troublant of course!
Oh you smell wonderful! ST is really special. I hope you had a restful day.
I’m in TF Eau de Soleil Blanc. Very beachy, despite the weather.
In the matter of 24 hours it has dropped 30 degrees and turned gray and rainy. Springtime in the Midwest.?
Yesterday my mom sent me a picture of 3 baby bear cubs climbing a tree in their front yard while mama stood guard. Just feet from their front deck! If we end up at their house for the weekend of the fourth, I will be spending the weekend INside.
Oh my gosh! Do they normally see bears around there?
Well, they live in the very northern part of the state just south of the UP border so bears are common. Not usually in the yard though! They often have deer in the yard. Summer before last a got a picture of some fawns in their driveway, they were so cute.?
??
Lol. Right?!
How cute! (viewed at a safe distznce)
Today I wore Escentric 2. It’s just such a great scent. Very happy with my blind choice.
We’re currently in the mid 90s and will be in the mid 60s by Sunday. Rollercoaster!
Sounds like NJ ??
Wore At The Beach 1966 again today. We had cloud and some rain earlier but it’s a small price to pay since we should be into summer temps next week.
We are taking next week off to go to a beach condo since the weather looks spectacular. My hubby will do some golfing and I will do the walk-along most days. Otherwise there’s a pool and beach within walking distance.
Oh how nice!
Enjoy your beach! Still cool & rainy here on the island.
I’ve hardly sat down today. PT, grocery store, back to the grocery store to pick up meds I forgot, etc, etc. Headed to the other side of town in the morning for a couple of days to see my sisters for the first time in nine months. Hugs, tears and good food will undoubtedly ensue.
I’m in hajusuuri levels of Jo Loves Green Orange & Coriander. Really should wear this more often!
Woo hoo! I think I just have a sample of it and remember it smelling nice!
Have a great time with your sisters.
Exciting! Have a wonderful visit!
Enjoy your sisters gathering! What a happy time!
Have a wonderful visit with your sisters! That is so exciting!
It’s so wonderful that you are reuniting with your sisters. Have a fabulous time!
Have a good visit with your sister!
*sisters! 🙂
Thanks you guys! You’re the best! ?
SOTD = 4160Tuesdays The Waft from the Loft Parfum
Nice! I wore it because cazaubon wore it yesterday! So good!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CPZEZ03hC79/?utm_medium=copy_link
Yesterday, I walked to Macy’s even though it was threatening rain. I wanted to get a mini pot I saw last Sunday that I felt was too expensive for what it was AND there was a tiny chip on one of legs. I asked if I can get it for 40% off. After much hemming and hawing (by her, including asking her manager at my request), the end result was the most I could get off was 10% off. Anyway, a few days later, I thought that I could go check it out again and perhaps it would be marked down. Nope, I couldn’t even find it! I found a different one at half the price so I ended up getting that. Lesson Learned – if you really like something, just get it! I’m a cheapie as the price of the one that got away was $9.95 ?.
10% is usually the standard discount, which isn’t great on a ten dollar item. When it’s 10 or less, it sometimes works better if you ask for a dollar amount off. Ex.. can you take 2 bucks off? Because it makes them think ” oh 2 bucks? sure” instead of thinking they just gave up 20%
Also I keep forgetting to tell you that yes I can see the?now! Yay!?
Oh something else…
Fragrance net now has the Gucci exclusives!
You don’t say …
Omg, I’m in trouble.
Wait, they don’t have Tears of Iris. I’m safe. Over and out!
You are right but I probably should have picked another person OR just take it to a register and look sad. And woo hoo on being able to see the ?!
Love the mosaic owl! And of course you smell great.
Angel Muse on a rainy, stormy day. Weather in NW Arkansas has been very wet and cool this spring. The farmers at the farmer’s market say it’s messing up their gardens. I’m OK as long as no tornadoes.
You smell nice !
Hello, lovely people!
Peeking in here as I try to adjust to dealing with the world more than I have for the past year+.
Today was nice because I went to an orchard/farm market and got fresh strawberries and pastries. Not that I needed the pastries (LOL!) but getting fruit and sweets are my idea of fun shopping. Also, they had colorful annuals, so I ended up getting begonias, red salvia and a heliotrope as well.
I’ve been weak this Spring in regards to ordering from Heirloom Roses, so I will have more roses coming. Then I need to figure out where to plant the additional roses. One named ‘Perfume Delight’ will be here soon, along with ‘Quatre Saisons,’ a remontant (reblooming) damask rose and others.
The summer damask roses are blooming now in the yard, and the albas, and the Centifolia hybrid rose ‘Fantin-Latour.’ The Bourbon rose ‘Mme. Isaac Pereire’ is starting to bloom. That’s very fragrant also. And the David Austin English rose ‘Teasing Georgia’ is absolutely covered in flowers. I’ll estimate that it’s close to 7′ tall now, so that’s a *lot* of flowers. 🙂 In a month or so — if I figured out correctly when the roses I ordered will ship — I’ll be getting ‘Heritage’ and ‘Mary Rose.’
But ‘Fantin-Latour’ and the damask rose ‘Mme. Zoetmans’ are at their peak now, if local and local-ish members here would like to come smell the roses. 🙂 The weekend is supposed to be fairly cold, but they’re hardy. ‘Ispahan’ will be blooming for a while yet, and the alba roses also. I live within half an hour or so of where Robin lives, if that gives you an idea of my location. E-mail me at neyronrose at gmail dot com if you think you might be able to stop by. 🙂
Take care! 🙂
Your roses sound fabulous! And I love fruit & pastries too. 🙂
A fellow rose-lover! I grow several David Austin roses, most in large pots as I don’t have enough sunny spots to house all the ones I want. I too grow Teasing Georgia (in the ground, lol) and it is marvelous. Year after year, covered in those gorgeous pale yellow flowers with their lovely scent. I don’t grow the heirloom roses you mention, though I do have a couple of modern hybrids that aren’t by David Austin. Mme. Isaac Pereire is gorgeous!
Debating my “summer vacation” scents: our last true summer vacation was in 2019, in Italy, when we got to see Florence and Venice for the first time. So I might go with Chanel’s Paris-Venise, or Hermes’ Un Jardin Sur la Lagune, or one of the fragrances I got in Florence. Decisions, decisions!
