It's Monday and World Water Day. Happy 90th to Mr. William Shatner! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying to wake up in Prada L’Eau Ambrée.
Reminder: 3/26 will be Guessing Game Friday, edition 4. Describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from the Prada Resort 2021 ad campaign.
I needed something pretty today to compete with the gray skies, so I’m in Chanel 1932. It was beautiful and sunny over the weekend, so I won’t complain.
We watched Ghostbusters on Saturday with madtownteen, lol. I haven’t seen that movie since I don’t know when. Possibly 1984.? We figured she needed to see it since the kids from Stranger Things dressed up like Ghostbusters for Halloween. Plus, I love Bill Murray, I’ll watch him in anything.
Definitely a movie that should be watched with one’s kids. I would argue it’s culturally important. ???
also a movie to be watched without the kids.
You can’t go wrong with Bill Murray ever! And I will add Rick Moranis.
Ghostbusters has become our annual halloween movie. So good! And I’m just now realizing that with annual views of Groundhog Day, Scrooged, and a Very Murray Christmas, Bill Murray factors into my holidays quite a bit! 🙂
There is no Dana…only Zuul.
Ghostbusters is absolutely essential viewing. It’s in my top 10 favorite movies for sure.
I think, it’s a great idea to watch something that has cultural significance with the kids. I re-watch Ghost Busters every 3-4 years and still enjoy it.
I like Stranger Things too.
Bill Murray is so great. Larger than Life and The Man Who Knew Too Little don’t get enough love.
It is a very strange thing, and I adore Bill Murray, but I have never seen Ghostbusters, and I hate to give in now 😉
Oh but you must!?
Monday so soon?
Oye.
Maybe a spray or two of Tigers Nest post shower for a long day of meetings ending with Monday night trash out.
Living large, I know!
Weekend flew by, didn’t it?
(And we do trash out the same night. Part of what makes Monday so special.)
I am wearing L’Artisan Champ de Baies. I am trying to be more restrained in my application, especially when wearing scents that are new to me or which I don’t remember. I think I was a little too restrained, and now can’t smell much at all.
Oops!!
Couldn’t say why, probably being out in this bright spring morning, but I had the sudden urge to wear something that smelled unabashedly of flowers (I know: “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”), and so I am in a drop of Eau de Joy, the 1960s reworking of the classic (my bottle is early ’90s) with less animal and less dirty jasmine than the original, plus aldehydes forming a sort of shiny candy-coated top note which is very modern but very nice. It’s probably not as good as the original, but it’s still pretty good.
Oh, you smell lovely! I have an old solid of Joy from the 1980s and an extrait that I treasure. I don’t wear them often but so enjoyable when I do.
Good Morning!
Perfumes from this weekend:
Saturday: Dream Angels Divine (again)
Sunday: Duality
Today: Most likely will be Decadence. I am in the mood for something a little spicy and wild-ish today.
Very happy birthday to Captain Kirk, 90 is no small achievement.
I bought myself a pot of daffodil bulbs last week. They bloomed beautifully, but the stalks are so tall that they are starting to droop over. I may have to wrap something around the whole bunch. I just love their scent, and I tell them every day how pretty they are. I am searching for a spot outside where I can plant the bulbs once the flowers die off, someplace where they won’t get mowed down by our maintenance crew’s lawnmower (that happened to neighbor’s blooms last year).
Happy spring, everyone!
William Shatner spoke at my nephew’s graduation ceremony a few years ago. He did a nice job. I had no idea that he was close to 90 at the time.. What I did notice is that he is pretty short. ?
I am also trying to wake up 🙂 ! Chanel No 19 Poudre for me, and a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Barqs, how does it last? I’m sorely tempted.
Decent. Its not a heavy hitter, and that is okay with me. Very well mannered fragrance.
Good morning all, my SOTD is Rem by Reminiscence, just lightly sprayed – the allergies are going nuts today. Flonase and Claritin aren’t putting a dent in my sneezing. Today going to be fun! 😯
I’ll wait for the wind to calm down before I head out for a walk. I hope it’ll warm up! It’s cold out there!
enjoy your walk
also a Flonase user!
I’m in good company! 😀
I’m trying to spread out the Flonase, using one squirt in the morning, and squirt #2 in the afternoon. I notice I have a serious sneeze-fest about 3 or 4pm!
Pollen alerts are starting to show up on my weather forecasts. Spring has sprung!
Yes, it has! Pollen is everywhere!
I have spring fever! Snowdrops, crocuses, glory-of-the-snow are blooming in my back yard, and who-knows-what-else as it’s my first spring in this apartment and it’s all a surprise! I’m so excited!
I’m taking some time off to quarantine and recover after a bout of I dunno but it felt like the flu. Coulda been that other unmentionable. Anyway, you know that feeling when you start to feel better and it’s amazing and you want to do all the things and run around and play and also reek havoc with your perfume? That. I also have the feeling that it’s a bit too soon, so I’ll just sit with my giddy self and probably stay commando but am grateful to live vicariously while reading your posts!
Eeek! I hope it’s not the unmentionable!
Whatever it was, I’m 90% better!
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you – I’m really doing fine now! Good to see you here!
Glad you feel better!
Thank you!
I’ve never heard of glory-of-the-snow before. It sounds rather exotic.
I had to look them up! The ones here are very pale blue – I’m a sucker for blue flowers.
Hi all! I have not posted here in months. I hope everyone is doing well.
Nobody is playing the guessing game yet? I will get the ball rolling.
Today I am wearing a scent from a well-known old niche house.
This flower is wild! (Or maybe even brutal?)
Some say it was born out of blood and rejection. Others, from mother’s grief. It adorned crowns. It became a symbol of revolutions. It comes in different colors, but red is probably its signature color.
something with Rose…
Nope. I think this flower is more associated with winter, while rose is spring/summer.
poppy?
I am lost with this one!
No. It has a spicy scent. I will think of a better hint.
“Wild” and “brutal” are actually the hints to the name of this perfume. Even though I would describe the scent as elegant and ladylike.
As for the main flower in it – it has a long stem and a lot of petals that give the blossom a ‘layered’ look.
The scent is spicy and powdery.
Vitriol d’oiellet?
Right flower, wrong scent. 🙂
One person from the comments above me is my house twin today.
Oillet Sauvage?
We have a winner!
Nice! I wouldn’t have guessed that one!
I was thinking L’ Artisan’s Voleur de Roses or Guerlain’s Rose Barbare.
Hiya Glannys!
?
In Chanel 28 La Pausa EdT.
Another beautiful spring day.
Drinking my second cup of coffee with saffron and few drops of rose water and a piece of wild blueberry pie.
Ready to take a walk at lunch time to enjoy the day.
I still have 10ml available from the split of Messe de Minuit I posted on Saturday, if someone is interested:
https://nstperfume.com/2021/03/20/lazy-weekend-poll-open-thread-international-day-of-happiness-2021/
Happy Monday, everyone! ?
You smell great and save me some pie please!?
Thank you, She-ra!
Passing you some ?
The split is closed. Thank you!
Guessing game-
A 2020 release from an old French perfume house. The nose for this house is handsome IMO, but the scent I am wearing today he didn’t formulate. Some notes are what one might drink when you first wake up, a flower that has no scent but its root does. It starts out strong but fades into nothing for me, but I am enjoying it nonetheless.
Iris Torréfié?
Ding Ding!
Wow, that’s so good!
I had an idea it was iris but that’s as close as I got.
Spent some time in Lyric this morning and now in vintage no 22 edt. Got the directions for Jake’s surgery for tomorrow.
Good luck tomorrow, Dawn. I hope the surgery goes well for Jake.
Wishing Jake a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
Best wishes to Jake.
Good luck tomorrow!
Sending out good thoughts for Jake.
Best of luck to you and Jake for tomorrow! ???
Best wishes for Jake tomorrow!
Guessing game: I smell like beautiful, indolic fruity pebbles, from the house that uses numbers to indicate ingredient concentration.
Le Labo? Anbrette 9?
Le Labo Jasmin 17?
You got it!
And now I want Fruity Pebbles… 🙂
*Ambrette
Guessing game: my sotd features pepper and Lily of the valley. The bottle is cute as a kitten.
Happy Monday!?
Miu Miu?
You are correct!
All I can think of is Grace Coddington but I don’t think it has LOV?
That was my thought too!
Nope, but that’s also a cute bottle! It’s Miu Miu.
That was a great ad!
I will wait to start the guessing game until later in the week, as I think it would be really hard to get people to guess my SOTD. I’m wearing my newly acquired sample of Daphne by L’Aromatica (they also make Kulfi, which is beloved by a few here). I think it will be a great replacement for the discontinued Delrae Wit, and I dare to say that I find it even more of an accurate portrayal of the daphne flower than Wit. It has more of that sharp citrus opening that you get when you stick your nose in the flowers.
Good to know about Daphne. It’s definitely on my interest list.
In the meantime, I have little vases all over the house with the actual flower and the wafting is sublime.

A realistic Daphne perfume you say?.. my nose is twitching, I longed to sample Wit but Perfume Delrae not available in Uk, I’m off to google L’Aromatica!
Uh, another week but you Robin smell delicious.
I’m in Dusita Splendiris today for it feels more like spring this time.
You smell fab!
Thank you!
And a photo of my bottle here
https://www.instagram.com/p/CMt8W8dhPpy/
Beautiful! ?
Thanks
Do you have a degree in Fine Arts, given the composition of your photos?
I wore that yesterday! Gorgeous!
It is very pretty and makes me think of spring a lot.
Trying another Chanel sample, Riviera. This one may be a winner for spring and summer. No off-putting notes yet.
Supposed to be 50 here today but my office is glacial. Perhaps a walk outside ….
Where/how do you get your Chanel samples? I have a few samples of the pillars (No. 5, CoCo Mademoiselle) from Sephora or Nordstrom free gifts, but I don’t know where to get samples of the Les Eaux or Les Exclusifs.
I bought them on eBay. I can pass one/some on to you, if you’re in the US. email is ann dot dalrymple at geeemail
Oh, wow. Thank you! This is so generous.
Paris-Riviera is very nice!
And it lasted almost four hours!
Good morning, all. Today I’m wearing a honey-tobacco scent, from a niche house that used to be king, but has fallen from favor. This fragrance in particular has been put into an uglier bottle with a jacked up price, so I’m afraid once this decant is up, the love affair is over.
Serge Lutens Chergui?
Right house, but it’s not Chergui. Chergui has escaped the black bottle, so far ?
Chergui?
No, it’s her less popular and more vanillic sister 🙂
Volutes?
Fumerie Turque?
You win! ?
Scent: Demeter Dandelion and Yves Rocher Pur Desir de Fleur d’Oranger.
Tea: Upton Lemon Drop
Topic: Decluttering the perfume. I rearranged and decluttered the closet this weekend, and am super excited to have discarded some very old (turned?) samples from early days of exploration. Bought myself a bit of space and a lot of mental freedom. It’s probably time to turn my attention to unused bottles…
I am overdue for a perfume declutter too. Probably won’t happen, but it *should* happen.
Wearing Clandestine by Guy Laroche today, it smells like a spicy rose cocktail. Also furious because my stupid city is changing the bus routes completely in a month and I STILL can’t tell if I’m going to be able to get to work in the morning because they don’t have the updated information in any of their apps, and when I call the staff just looks at the apps and says, “oh I guess they’re broken”.
That sounds super frustrating. I hope they fix their apps soon.
How useless! The apathy is so frustrating.
Wore Shalimar on Saturday and Chanel No. 5 on Sunday because if I have to do yard work, I might as well be fancy about it.
Today I’m in Guerlain Basier de Russie thanks to SarahN. Had I tried it before I would have worn it for Foodie Friday bc I get lots of caramel and vanilla. I got a hit of pine at first; I wish it had lasted. I get a little bit of plum and and a mellow cranberry, but the sweeter notes dominate. It’s quite pretty, but it would be more engaging if the pine had hung around longer.
Drinking F&M Queen Anne tea from a Countryware breakfast mug that I was very excited to find on ebay. Fancy tea deserves a fancy mug!
I love Basier de Russie.
I finished my decant so fast. Guerlian house twins
I love Baiser de Russie also and agree…wish the pine hung around longer.
It was too sweet for me, but glad you are enjoying it!
Trying a new maximum version flanker from a kind NSTer today.
I get a sharp/tart green rose in the opening with plenty of neroli, orange blossom and marshmallow later.
Also took advantage of 30% fragrance at Target yesterday and ordered some Mix:Bar Vanilla Bourbon per hajusuuri’s suggestion plus the discovery set…also got two from the new Pacifica Moon Moods line: Dream Moon and Silver Moon. No affiliation with anything here…just an impulsive blind buyer seizing the perfume math free day. 😉
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/MIX-BAR-A-New-Fragrance-Layering-Brand-For-Target-14790.html
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/The-New-Pacifica-Line-MOON-MOODS-14599.html
Very interested to hear your thoughts on the discovery set. I’m thinking it would be a fun gift for preteens to learn and play around with scents and notes, as long as the scents themselves are decent.
Are you wearing the By Kilian Love Don’t be shy Extreme flanker?
Ding, ding, ding…we have a winner!?
SOTD is Infusion d’Iris. Just made it to the gym for the second time since being fully vaccinated and I’m very happy, although soon to be very sore.
How nice!!! Hard to imagine being in the gym, it’s been so long.
Thunking a decant from a generous NSTer. Dry as a bone (appropriately) and filled with beautiful spices and jasmine. Makes me want to travel.
Instead, I did laundry.
Are you wearing Alahine?
Nope. European house, just not France.
Is it an Ormonde Jayne?
Nope. Continental Europe perfumer, but not Europe in scent reference. Scent evokes a different place/continent…
Tauer? LADDM? but I think the jasmine doesn’t fit this one…
Yep. There’s jasmine in it.
Shatner is 90?! Well, very happy birthday to The Captain!
Ok, I’m playing.
My fragrance is what I call an iris for non-iris lovers. We’re talking more the flower than the root. Any guesses?
Iris Ukiyoe?
Nope!
Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile?
*Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding* — we have a winner!
It’s the EDT, however 😉
Only iris I really enjoy.
I love the EDT version of that – you smell wonderfully spring-y!
No one would ever guess my SOTD. I’m wearing DSH Fire Opal. Tea, earthy, orange, spicy and green.
Definitely not me ?
Ooh, that sounds lovely!
Ir’s a great name for a perfume IMO.
My SOTD smells like someone went out into a meadow, gathered handfuls of violets, hawthorne, and early roses, and stuck them all into an old suede handbag with a chunk of dried cedar branch and a light dusting of face powder, and then forgot about the whole heap for a few days.
I have no idea, but I want some.
?
So do I! This sounds great!
Well, it’s lovely, but might be discontinued. ? Need another hint?
Not d/c’d, but no longer listed at Lucky Scent – hope that’s not an omen. Another hint: perfumeur/nose and house bear the same name.
Second that!
probably wrong but – Moulin Rouge Hdp?
No, but maybe I need to try that one! What’s an “Hdp”?
Histoire de Parfums
Oh, I see – Histoires de Parfums. ? Interestingly, Moulin Rouge has iris as a top note, and my SOTD smells like it does, but actually doesn’t. (And now I REALLY want to try ML.)
My first thought was Jolie Madame, but it does not have hawthorn.
Cuir d’Ange?
Neither of those, but you got the first word correct on your second guess. My memory may be faulty, but I think you may be familiar with my scent today, Glannys.
Cuir Cordoba?
Excellent guess, but no. Another clue: the perfumeur/nose is an Englishman.
Oh! Cuir Pleine Fleur (Heeley)?
That’s the one! Do I recall correctly that you’re as much of a fan as I am?
I used to be but eventually decided it is not for me. I might come back to it though.
I am wearing a scent in a mauve pink bottle and thinking of sexy underwear…
Agent Provocateur?
Yessss!!
Good morning and happy spring, everyone! I’m starting the week gently in Traversée du Bosphore. I mowed my lawn for the first time yesterday — my ex always used to do it. Woof! It’s a half acre of very bumpy, overgrown grass, and it took some serious arms to get through it all, and now said arms are out for the count, along with portions of most of the rest of me. But think how enormously strong I’ll be by the end of spring!
You smell great. Bravo on mowing the lawn!
2nd that!!
You go! That’s awesome, tackling the lawn for the first time.
This guessing game is hard!
I’m wearing a scent by a house that is beloved because it offers small bottle sizes. Luca Turin loves the perfumer. My particular scent is popular here, and where I live, the flower that is part of the scent is just about to start blooming, give or take another couple of weeks. Randomly, my family does NOT enjoy this one one bit.
Oooh, is this Nicolai? Perhaps the neroli?
As I say to my students: “Can you be leeetle more specific?” 🙂
I was too lazy to Google the specifics. Guilty of being a lazy student here! ?
Totally ok.
Cap Neroli?
Yes! I used to love this so much a couple of years ago – felt it was the perfect scent for me. Now it’s just….ok.
Funny how often that happens. There are more than a few of those hanging around in my closet … ?
Le temps d’une Fête?
I was top lazy to read all the replies, you smell wonderful!
I would like to smell le temps d’une fete one day, for sure!
Gotta be New York or New York Intense!
Whoops! Never mind. Not to self: read all comments.
Ditto ?
Happy Monday, everyone.
Guessing game! I’m in a cloud of yellow pollen and greeness. The house is one that first put perfumers in the spotlight, really giving reign to create and credit for their work.
Mimosa Pour Moi?
So close, with the right flower!!
FM Une Fleur de Cassie?
You got it! ?
Good one!
Thinking, though, likely a Malle scent.
Monday!
1) Late wakeup this morning- I was super busy-ish this past weekend, and the rainy, chilly weather seemed to sap strength from me.
2) SOTD: Brazilian Lime, Fig and Tea fragrance from Beauty Pie- very energizing, just what was needed. Go through a bodyweight exercise routine (oof) and a short cardio routine (oy!)
3) Just received the 2nd EIP today (the $600).
Lime, Fig and Tea sounds so nice!
I’m feeling springy in a lawless big white floral! 🙂
Tuberose Criminelle? (spelling??)
Yes!
Tubéreuse Criminelle?
Yes!
Reading fast and read ” feeling stingy”! LOL
Ha!
I’m wearing a fruity Chypre that according to its name is meant for lost souls.
L’Ame Perdue?
Yep!
SOTD = The Harmonist Royal Earth
… from a sample. It’s a beautiful powdery musky iris-violet-sandalwood. For science, I wanted to see how long 8 sprays lasted. I am 8 hours in and I can still smell it quite well. FB here I come!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CMupULLBrMM/?igshid=hkwhyojlprc6
In other news – the Shopping Chronicles:
1. Why do people stop at the narrowest place in an aisle and gab away on their phone?
2. Never mind the phone. Why do people congregate and chat in front of a refrigerated case when they have no intention of buying anything from that case?
I guess life is returning to more normal in your parts of the world – we know we’re all good when you have commuting woes again, yes? 🙂
I have to say my commuting woes have gone way way down even pre-COVID once I moved to our NY office. A lot of the fodder is from the PATH train rides (I am still twitching thinking about it).
Never taken the PATH trains. But I have been stuck in a tunnel on NJT trains a couple of times. Not an experience for the claustrophobic!
Your SOTD sounds beautiful.
I guess there are all kinds of woes…. commuting, shopping, etc…
You will smell what I mean with Royal Earth.
There’s work woes too – I had to tell someone to stop being a b-tch. You know what – her manager just left and she was feeling sorry for herself. If she is feeling like this, tell people you will get back to them tomorrow but she cannot wallow in her sorrow. If she’s working, she needs to put up a professional front, none of this whining nonsense.
I agree. I think our current environment is making matters worse.
Your “highfaluting” owl looks kind of melancholy in that photo, IMO.
We’ll call it “soft focus” ?.
Lovely owl! As for points 1 & 2, nowadays people seem to think they are alone in the world and don’t think whether they are inconveniencing others. Grrr.
Thank you. People are really selfish!
Too tired to try to come up with something for the guessing game. In original Stella. I still enjoy it a lot, even after more than a decade.
Report on the Shal-Angel experiment: after six hours in two sprays of Shalimar, I blasted my forearms with two sprays each of Angel (from a manufacturer’s sample). I’ve mentioned before that this sample seems more gentle than the Angel I remember from my (lost) FB. My first response to putting it on top of Shalimar was “oh, no” — it just seemed really sharp and screechy compared to the cozy dry down of Shalimar. But then after a while — 30 minutes? — the Angel mellowed and the Shalimar dry down resurfaced, creating a softer, deeper, friendlier (IMO) Angel. I think I’ll try the experiment again.
I’m in The Harmonist Hypnotizing Fire. It’s a very spicy rose, and I’m not digging it. I usually like spicy roses, but the pimento is off putting to my nose. Off to shower, and with a little Rossy, I’ll be in good shape. ❤️?❤️
I think it has cumin too. Royal Earth lasted 10+ hours on me with 8 sprays!
I went back later in the day yesterday, and added three sprays. That made it last longer for me!
Is that pimento like the chili, or pimento, aka allspice?
It was more like a chile pepper to me.
Good afternoon from sunny Oakland, CA. Trying a tiny sample of vintage Fracas today. I’ve had it for months and been afeared of its might, even from inside a sealed vial! But it is lovely. Trying Rogue Perfumery’s Champs Lunaire seems to have primed me to like this. 🙂
I’ve never tried Fracas, but I do love tuberose! I’m sure you smell great!
If you love tuberose, you probably need some Fracas in your life, post haste! It’s glorious stuff.
Thank you! With just a dab, it was lovely, but not overwhelming. I’m enjoying the sandalwood in the drydown right now.
Waving!
Hi neighbor!
Posting late today. Got busy and just realized the time. I did thunk that sample of Prada Candy over the weekend, and decided it was time to change up the perfume style.
SOTD = Clinique Wrappings. Glad I picked up a BUB of this earlier in the year! Now, if only they would make a shower gel…
I wish alot of my perfumes came in shower gel.
Would be nice, wouldn’t it?
You smell great and maybe you can make your own Wrappings shower gel!
Thanks for the perfume compliment! ?
