Hump Day plus Random Acts of Kindness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm matching today's cheerful image with Aftelier Candide.
Reminder: on 2/19, we're doing the Picture Challenge, edition 6. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is The Girl by the Window by Edvard Munch, 1893. More reading here; larger copy of the image here. New: more background in So Typecast You Could Scream at The New York Times.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from The Sun by Edvard Munch, 1911, via Wikimedia Commons. You can read more about this mural, and see it in its original setting at Oslo University, here.
In Aftelier Ancient Resins Body Oil layered with CdG Jaisalmer.
Coffee with toast and avocado with some extra drops of white truffle oil.
I am ready for now for my next Zoom meeting.
Happy Wednesday! ?
Your toast and truffle sound amazing ?
Very tasty! ?
Hadn’t decided yet what to wear, but Jaisalmer it is.
Twins! Yay! We smell great!
Dang, you are KILLING the breakfast game and you smell marvelous!!
LOL! Taking advantage that I am working from home to enjoy breakfast. Once I am back to the office I will barely eat in the morning.
Wow, you smell great!
Thank you! ?
I’ve been doing savory breakfasts more often – it does seem to help my energy level as opposed to even lightly sweet cereal, which is my go-to. But I love me some “Basic 4” over Shredded Wheat and Bran, with walnuts and cinnamon tossed in.
Before the pandemic I rarely had breakfast, because I was always rushing in the morning. Usually coffee and a toast. Since I started working from home I have focused more seriously in making savory breakfast and I have seen a big difference in my daily performance, especially in the morning.
Interesting! I know a lot of “morning people” who don’t like breakfast, which seems weird to me; but I wonder if they should be the ones who need the “steak and eggs” or ” beans and rice” starters! 🙂 This perfumed person just wakes up wanting *coffee* and *FOOD!” ;D
I always crave for food in the morning, I just didn’t have time for it before. Just coffee and oatmeal. Therefore I needed
lunch, but just a small portion. Now I am enjoying breakfast, a fruit or salad for lunch and early dinner which is the “heavier” meal of the day. But COFFEE is a must have 3-4 times a day. ?
The biggest takeaway for my attempt at a very-low-carb diet in the late 1990s was what a positive difference a higher-protein, lower-carb breakfast made to my day. I still try to avoid processed and added sugar in the morning — even a little bit of jam, for instance, will make me crave sugar throughout the day.
This is my experience too. I don’t eat a low carb diet overall, but a low carb breakfast (esp. with eggs) really helps with hunger for the rest of the day.
Yum on the breakfast AND scent layering combo! So creative.
Trying my best! ?
Smelling great!
Thank you!
This week Major League Baseball officially opens training camps to pitchers and catchers, who begin training before other players.
In their honor, I am wearing Cobachard, for its predominant thick but supple leather note.
Yay for baseball and Cabochard!
Truck Day is an unofficial holiday here in Boston. Can’t wait for baseball. Dear John Henry, please bring back Mookie and un-do the trade of Benintendi.
I miss Mookie! My son and I couldn’t help but root for him with the Dodgers in the post season last year.
Put on some Boucheron Pour Homme EDP from a very old sample and oh the top is *not good*: it’s gone horrifically off and turned into something that nobody should smell like. For a minute there I thought I was going to have to scrub it off. After that’s gone, though, it’s still its old self — rich, complex, herbal, with *immense* quantities of oakmoss, just buckets of it. So gorgeous!
Boucheron Pour Homme is gorgeous stuff.
Glad to hear someone else sticking up for a good perfume with pesky dead top notes. I have quite a few like that – not so practical with so many perfumes, but I spend enough time around the house that I am grateful to have found them!
I have a bottle of L’Arte di Gucci EdT that does that – top notes go waaay off, but dries down much better.
What a great idea! Visual art and perfume both evoking powerful emotions. I love the 19th and early 20th century painters and I would love to go to Oslo and see the Munch museum. That picture makes me think of something a bit brooding like irises as in l’heure exquise by Goutal or l’heure bleue.
Scent of the day is Dusita la Douceur the Siam. Still following the rose theme!
I would love to see the museum too!
The Munch museum is excellent. So many interesting pieces. And if I may, I will make a pitch for visiting Oslo in late November or December, when the city is decked out for Christmas. Yes it is cold and the days are short, but the candles lining the street make it beautiful and inviting outside, and every store and restaurant is cozy inside. Of all of the cities I have visited, Oslo is my favorite.
Sounds amazing! I’ve been wanting to go for so long but was not sure about wintertime. Thanks so much for the tip. Written down as short trip to make as soon as pandemic allows. 🙂
Yes, what Cicely says. 🙂
The one drawback we found was that the nicer restaurants had no tables available for walk-ins, because there were so many friend, family, office groups, etc., having holiday dinners together. We made it work by eating at the bar for places we really wanted to try, but I’d recommend reservations if there are any restaurants you don’t want to miss.
Thank you! The search for a place to eat is always a bit stressful, especially in touristic places. I had not thought about the Christmas dinners factor!
Good morning Y’all,
Testing out Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée and really enjoying it! I like this one better than the original Twilly. Nice and peppery as named, and the patchouli is really nice…..
Seriously thought there’d be another flanker to Twilly by now! Glad you’re loving yours.
Long time no post! Hope you are all well.
In Frederic Malle Iris Poudre from a sample. Where has this fragrance been? My reaction within 5 second of first spray was – ‘oh no’. But just after that it turned to love. Although, do I need this *and* Chanel 19? not sure. They fulfil the same purpose and convey a similar mood to me.
Hey there! Iris Poudre is so gorgeous, you smell wonderful! I do adore Chanel No. 19….. Must always have it in my stash.
It is gorgeous. And yes, No19 is so beautiful. It get’s labelled as “cold” a lot but I find it has a very soft heart. It takes getting acquainted with.
I think it depends on the skin whose wearing it and the concentration. EdT vs. Extrait or Cologne are different animals. That was the beauty of the vintage versions.
Yes (she said firmly), you need both … or all three, if I include 19 EDP and EDT as separate scents, which they are. You probably don’t need both Iris Poudre and 19 Poudre – those are too similar to my nose.
? noted
Iris Poudre is indispensable! It’s probably the one fragrance that never lets me down.
And now you’ve reminded me that I never got around to trying No 19 edp. Will remedy that soon!
No19 edp is one of the very very few scents I have a backup of! Highly recommend it f you haven’t tried it yet.
Morning everyone, my SOTD is Dior’s J’Adore – stemmy greens and white flowers for today’s full day of meetings and testing a new HR software.
I made a huge batch of soup/broth with veggies and noodles last night, it felt good to get a big bowl of something nutritious in my belly. Jenny Plague Diet is going well, I’ve lost 10 lbs. 😀
I started reading a new book West With Giraffes, by Lynda Rutledge. Set at the end of the Great Depression 1938, 105 year old Woodrow Wilson Nickel, feels his life is coming to an end but remembers an extraordinary experience with two giraffes as a younger man and his travels getting them to their final destination.
I finished The Blessings of the Animals, by Katrina Kittle but it was a struggle. It started out very strong, I initially liked it but faded quickly. Formulaic characters, predictable plot and unrealistic veterinary situations that undermined the premise of the book.
Next on tap, Nine Coaches Waiting and The Ivy Tree by Mary Stewart. Touch Not The Cat (SmokeyToes might appreciate this) and Airs Above The Ground (I love Lipizzaners, I have friends who train them) also look good.
Book twins (or at least cousins)! I just finished re-reading Airs Above the Ground after first reading it several decades ago. There was so much I had forgotten about the story. It’s quite good, in Stewart’s signature style, which always includes luscious descriptions of her protagonist’s surroundings (and in this case, of the dancing steps that are the “airs above the ground”) along with adventure and excitement.
Oh, I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for the detail! I noticed in Amazon, many of her books are deeply discounted, priced $1.00-$3.99. That’s a steal.
J’adore is one of a kind, so beautiful.
West with Giraffes is on my shelf. 😀 Glad you enjoyed it, now I’m motivated to start reading.
Your soup sounds delicious!
Thanks! Currently, soup is really just about all I can eat right now.
I recently found a Youtube channel called Aaron and Claire, their 9 New Ways To Enjoy Korean Ramyun Ramen Recipes hack video is delightful! Of course, after nine bowls of soup with copious amounts of noodles, I’m left wondering why Claire still appears to be a size 00. 😯
I have to adjust everything so it’s gluten-free, but that’s no issue.
I also have a new le Cruset Dutch Oven to break in, so there’s that…..
Oooh, on both the Korean Ramen and Le Creuset fronts!
And, it’s Orange, my favorite color!! My friends do really know me well.
Oh, those Le Creuset Dutch ovens are the BOMB! And so many pretty colors to choose from!
I love, love, love those Mary Stewarts. I have them all (collected from various used bookstores over time). They are just fun with great writing. West with Giraffes sounds very interesting! I get the best book ideas from this blog!
Me too! Mostly paperbacks, but I have one big hardbound collection that has four of them in one volume. I treasure them all.
What would you start with by Mary Stewart, SheriG?
Oh, well, my absolute favorite is Madam Will You Talk, but also high on the list is The Ivy Tree. Either of those would make a good start. Oh, or Nine Coaches Waiting. Save Thunder On The Right, Wildfire at Midnight and This Rough Magic for later (although both are good), and maybe skip The Gabriel Hounds altogether.
I agree mostly – but wouldn’t skip any. They’re just too fun. The Ivy Tree is amazing. I also love My Brother Michael which had a lot of history in it.
Ok, now I want to read some Mary Stewart! What’s a good one to start with?
Now that I’ve weighed in, I’m interested to see what springpansy recommends as a first-read.
I trust both of you not to steer me wrong ?
Yes – Mary Stewart fan here, too: I think I first read This Rough Magic. Don’t know if that is one of her best, but it was such a delight.
But to start with, yes, Madam Will You Talk? is a good rec. Really, I might just read them in the order she wrote them and I think Madam Will You Talk *was* the first. But however you do it, you can’t go wrong. (Stormy Petrel was my least favorite, but still fun for the setting.)
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve loaded The Ivy Tree on my Kindle.
Lol – I could talk Mary Stewart all day. But I don’t want to build expectations too much. They’re very much of their time, as far as the love stories. But her descriptions of setting are beautiful and her plots are fun. They’re just an enjoyable read.
I think someone here on NST mentioned Mary Steward and that’s what got me down the wabbit hole….
Glad you are able to tolerate something besides tea and clear broth!
I’m back to work, even though it is still icy. I get to go home an hour early though, so that is something. SOTD is Tokyo, my last scent from my Gallivant discovery set. I have not fallen in love deeply enough with any of these to even purchase a decant. I’m going to work on finishing my Bruno Fazzolari discovery sets.
yay for going home a bit early! 🙂
2nd that, but be careful PriscillaE!
SotD = 31 Rue Cambon
I’m playing decant bingo, trying to enjoy as many as I can as fast as I can. The angel’s share of perfume hits me in the face as it wafts away every time I open the perfume cupboard.
Yesterday was for Paris – Riviera. I enjoy both of these scents, but may add some No. 5 EdP to 31RC. She makes quite a statement, almost too serious. She makes me want to say “hello, prettyyyyy laaaaaadyyy” in a Jerry Lewis voice just to tone things down a bit.
Truly hope everyone facing the winter weather is warm and well. Hugs to you all.
LOLing at the idea of Jerry Lewis toning anything down. ?
yah, haha, somehow 31RC feels bigger than the madcap action of a Jerry Lewis movie to me. 😉
31RC is hard for me to wear.I get a little of it with Le Lion, which I love.
And totally LOL at Jerry Lewis. ?
What do you mean, lillyjo? 31RC not quite working for me either but I am not sure why. I think I am a bit anosmic to some Exclusifs.
It turns particularly animalic on me. I also can’t wear Beige because of instant headache. I like Coromandel and No.22 and Le Lion best of what I’ve tried.
Beige is good for me, smells like baby shampoo. Wearing No. 22 feels like being trapped (happily) in a late 1980s Crabtree & Evelyn shop, so much floralcy.
I understand that growl in some of the Chanels. Today 31RC behaved nicely for me. But that animalic part sometimes really stands out. I’ve never smelled Coromandel, and Box of Eels is a big no for me, at least so far, tho I’ll never stop trying. 😉
Then we must have a similar nose! Beige also gives me headaches, smells like a very shrill shampoo on me. Many current Exclusifs I am sure I cannot smell the notes. I love a decant of EDT 28 la pausa. And my favourites are 22 and Coromandel too! Must try le Lion.
Ack, I haven’t thought of Jerry Lewis in years! So funny 🙂
My dad enjoyed watching Jerry Lewis movies when I was a kid. At first I thought, “huh, this character is weird!” But I learned to love the silliness. 🙂
Still snickering a bit at the mention of Jerry Lewis!
always good for a laugh for sure! 😀
Back home again, after our brief motel refuge. Mr. G and I scurried home yesterday after getting a text from our neighbor saying her freezer had warmed enough to melt and had leaked all over her kitchen floor and did we want her to check ours. ? Ours was beginning to drip but wasn’t too bad, so we cleaned up a little, moved a few things to a snow-filled cooler, lit the fireplace and got a big family-style lasagna for dinner from a local restaurant. And then the power came back on at about 6! Huzzah!
Anyway, I’m doing several loads of laundry this morning (the outage interrupted my usual weekend chores and I’m about out of clean clothes) and enjoying the heck out of a latte and a muffin. Commando so far, but I’ve got my eye on 19 EDP for post-shower. Life is good. 🙂
I’m really happy your power is back!
Thanks lillyjo – me too!!
hurray for clean clothes and hot showers 😀
Indeed! The phrase “home and dry” has been in my head a lot lately, and it’s never meant more to me than it does now.
YAY. I always love big storms…until the power goes out.
Yes, it was very pretty here – we don’t get a whole lot of snow so we all appreciate it right up until something destructive happens, and then we all wish we had plain ol’ rain back.
Me too, SP: I think that love comes from the days before people were so dependent on “The Grid.” Our human nature responds to all types of weather.
Good scent choice!
I thought you would approve. ?
Glad things are getting back on track Chez Toi! Cannot even imagine the chaos, here in Montreal they are SO on top of it with power outages because it’s a reality of winter life.
Power back! That’s a relief. I have a friend in Austin who has been out for over 40hrs now
So glad about your power!
So happy for you that you’re home, and that your freezer *mostly* held up! Enjoy your post-shower scent, whatever you choose!
Hurray for you and Mr. G being back home, with power on, and a minimum of thawing in your freezer!
I’m having a triple Kilian day.
Wearing Amber Oud globally plus Roses on Ice on one and Angels’ Share on another wrist – for the review.
I find Amber Oud and Angels’ Share similar, Roses on Ice is not my cup of (cucumber) tea.
Triple Kilian is an expensive way to go 🙂
Not when it’s just samples ?
True!
I started out in Gold Knight, so we are house twins today.
Hi twin
I am wearing Chanel No 18 today and drinking a cup of black tea. In a few minutes, I will be leaving for the final walk through for my daughter’s wedding. We are meeting at the reception venue.
house twins! 😀 😀 you smell elegant and beautiful.
Thank you. The more I wear this, the more I love it.
Have a good walkthrough!
Thank you 🙂 It worked out well.
What a happy time! Sending many blessing for her wedding! <3! Does she have a Wedding Day perfume? Do share, if allowed.
Yes, ditto to all of this!
She is wearing Laila by Geir Ness for her wedding day. It is a little bit too strong for me to wear, but it smells beautiful on her.
Her bridesmaids do not know it yet, but they are going to each get a small bottle of Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt as our gift to them to wear at the wedding.
Her groom (and my soon to be son in law) got small bottles of Voyage d’Hermes and Epice Marine for Christmas from us. Maybe he’ll choose one of those for his wedding scent.
Great choices on all of those. I especially like Voyage d’Hermes. I hope it all goes smoothly and you can just enjoy!!
Oh, Laila is so pretty!
What a lovely thought for the Jo Malone fragrance, what a wonderful memory! 🙂
How exciting! ????
It’s my day off, and I am spending it at the car repair shop. Fingers crossed it’s a quick and painless visit.
Sotd is Le Lion. I think it’s become my new “give me strength” perfume.
Lillyjo, everyone needs a ‘give me strength’ perfume. Glad you have found yours! Good luck with the car repair.
You smell grrrreat!
Wouldn’t that be “le tigre”? ?
LOL, SheriG!
Ugh, car repairs are like dental work. So expensive with little to show for it but absolutely necessary.
Hope that the car repairs are done with, and didn’t cost you an arm and a leg!
All done, for now lol.
SOTD is Purple Rain by Prada. Beautiful.
You smell soooo pretty
You smell great!
In a splurge of FM Creme Pour Les Mains Au Beurre D’Iris by Olivia Giacobetti. It is a beautiful combination of the rooty iris I love with a silky smoothness. Heaven. It could also be a good fit for the CP painting.
I love the scent of this! You smell lovely!! It’s quite a splurge indeed, but the scent lingers for awhile.
Thank you! Yes, I can’t get enough of it and keep smelling my hands!
Wearing a tiny spray of Guerlain Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Mexique. This is so wonderful!
That is a lovely version of Shalimar.
Sounds absolutely wonderful. Guerlain with more beautiful vanilla. I wish I could smell it.
I wonder if the new Shalimar flanker is anything like that?
BobH had his impressions on the new Shalimar flanker in a SOTD post earlier this week. Either Monday or yesterday (Tuesday).
Parfum Satori, from a sample. I’ve been meaning to wear this again, it’s lovely and pretty muted. I may just douse myself in the whole vial in a moment. No idea how to describe this one.
Anyone ever look at their closet and feel like getting rid of the majority of their clothes? Very tempted to do a Marie Kondo. Of course, I’d likely fill the drawers right back up! 🙂
I’m always worried that I might not have very much left (not very happy with my wardrobe). But yes, I’m seriously working on my closet this month.
I do a mini-Kondo every few months, and tend to be pretty ruthless about assessing if I’m reaching for certain clothes regularly or if they’ve become “maybe someday I’ll like/wear that again.”
That said I still have too many… in normal life I’m on the road so often that I tend to have a bit of “home” and “away” wardrobe, so that my suitcases don’t need to get fully unpacked when I do get time back in my place!
I have work clothes (thrift store finds from Talbot and the like, or from the actual Talbot when we had one in town) and they don’t really wear out, so I’m getting particularly tired of them even though I haven’t worn them much in this past year. But there’s just no good reason to get rid of them! Gah. Plus, all the thrift stores are full to the brim with everyone’s stuff, it seems.
Ha! The perils of well-made clothing.
Yes! My future grandkids can wear those pencil skirts/dresses/blazers to work one day!
I have what I think of as “home” clothes and “out of the house” clothes but of course in the last year everything has changed. I wear the same yoga pants and sweatshirt for days at a time and wonder why I own anything else.
Yeah, this.
And I’ve often wondered if I wore the same thing several days per week to the office would anyone even notice?
This is an American thing – that you have a different outfit everyday. In Germany, people wear the same top/outfit twice in a row no problem (or at least, used to). And I have a Swedish friend who once got a new top and wore it to work in America two days in a row and someone said to her “nice top. Again.”
You smell amazing! I need to wear Satori more often.
While working from home (for more than 11 months now ?), I mostly wear ‘more loud’ scents.
But Satori was a favourite for office wear…pretty quiet but oh so interesting!
Actually, I must go and re-apply – it’s vanished! Time to thunk the sample!
Wearing Reglisse Noire inspired by Lisa D yesterday. Peppery, minty licorice both cool and warm at the same time.
I really need a good licorice. Wish they would make Black Vines in a travel size.
It’s very good. I wish it lasted a bit longer, though. You smell great!
Feeling indecisive, will probably wear something simple and comforting like Iris Torréfié.
I’m loving this too cazaubon, and find it comforting as well. That iris is so good! Not cold but very hugging yet not too sweet.
I recently tried IT, and thought it was really good!
Felt paralyzed by choice this morning. I usually don’t think too hard about it. I wanted sweet and spicy and stared at the Chergui in my hand for a few minutes before switching to Tea for Two out of consideration for my coworkers. The kindness is just pouring out of me!
You’d smell wonderful either way ?
Wore vintage no 5 extrait this morning and now in Amouage Memoir today. Debating if I want to make a Costco run today or not.
My in-laws got their second vaccination shots last week and today was the first day they were “all clear” to venture out in the world, after strict self-quarantining since March. They went to Costco and were so excited about it! 🙂 <3
Sotd Bois d’Encens, ‘stolen’ from my husband
Compared to the warm and spicy incense of Nankun Kodo I wore yesterday, BdE feels almost austere and cold. But its a great scent as well. Its a ‘i am here to get things done’ incense. ?
Bois d’Encens is austere to me as well, I don’t find it cold though. Aloof maybe, anyway you smell wonderful, it is my favourite incense by far.
Thank you,
Yes aloof is the better word to describe it!
It’s my favorite incense too. Actually it might be my favorite perfume, period.
And that’s saying a lot!
It is one stunning fragrance
Wearing Mitsouko this morning and just taking some time to appreciate the structure of the classics, particularly Guerlain’s. I am eagerly awaiting samples of Jicky and Vol de Nuit edt in the mail. I already love Jicky edp but the edt appears to be much easier to find so I’m curious to see if it’s worth it. Haven’t smelled Vol de Nuit at all, so I’m excited about that.
I fall all in love again and again with Mitsouko every time I wear it.
Every time I wear it I wonder why I don’t wear it more.
That sounds really exciting! I’ve been thinking of doing just that. Never smelled Vol de Nuit either and I am very intrigued! Sometimes I feel like buying this and that Guerlain classic blindly but then I talk myself back into sense.
I may buy Mitsouko blindly though. Oakmoss is a note that can put me a bit off, but despite this I remember sampling Mitsouko at the beginning of my perfumista trip and being amazed at how it developed!
Enjoy your sampling!
I’ve been tempted by a few blind buys myself recently but I’ve been good and resisted. Mitsouko is so specific I would try a sample first if I was you – it tends to be a bit love or hate.
I feel neutral about Mitsouko. I don’t wear it often, and when I do, it just feels ok. I keep waiting to fall in love, as on paper I should love it.
I’ll be interested to hear what you think about Vol de Nuit, since it’s one of the classic Guerlains that I haven’t tried yet either.
After pretty much ignoring it all of last winter, I’m in Chergui again today. It’s been in fairly frequent rotation this year.
Expecting more snow tomorrow. I am over it.
Over it here too irisjasmine!
I have been wearing Aromatics Elixir from my brand new vintage bottle, the scent is still pristine but of course at the end of the day the rose has disappeared, it is in the drydown stage, lots of moss and earthy patchouli, almost like aromatherapy.
Aromatics Elixir is aromatherapy – you smell wonderful. IMOH, AE is a Perfumista Classic.
Thank you?, yes very grounding, and I can’t imagine its being created today, I also like its masculine counterpart Aramis 900.
The drydown is my favorite part.
For me too.
Vintage AE must be something else! Even the current version is a powerhouse. But yes, grounding and calming.
The modern version is still in very good shape in but I wanted a specific effect that only the vintage gave me, so that’s why I went that route and waited a long time until the right formulation and price.
Just got done cooking, ready for a shower and then some Imperial Opoponax. Love, love.
Today’s soup is totally made up, I’m calling it 4 Pepper Chicken & Black Bean. It smells good too.
Your soup sounds perfect!
Well, we’ll see lol ??
🙂
Vie de Chateau for me today. Tired after a long and reasonably productive day.
Ah, the smell of August!!
Isn’t it just glorious? It smells of hay to me, very fancy hay.
It did — I hope it still does! I should have bought it years ago when I had the chance.
Finished cleaning out another cabinet in the pantry this morning. I should be done with this room by the end of the week, yay!
I should be baking lime bars today — our lime trees are dropping several limes a day — but, don’t feel like baking. Maybe tomorrow.
Sampling Les Indemodables today. So far nothing ringing my bell; money saved. I asked Google Translate to translate the name, and it gave me: “them uncomfortable”. What?? I mean, it can’t accurately translate “les” to “the”? Go back to first year (first day!) French class, Google!
Ha! Me laughing!
I made Key lime pie with our (key) limes recently. It actually was not very involved at all. I’m not even 100% sure they are key limes, but I think that’s what I have (I bought and planted these; no excuse there).
Key Limes are a very special treat. My in-laws lived in Bradenton, Florida, and their next-door neighbor had a key lime tree. I seem to remember MIL said that was about as far north as Key Limes would grow. My dear in-laws had wonderful navel orange and Duncan grapefruit trees in their little yard. Wonderful memories!
I love all the citrus that grows in FL, I remember the orange groves smelling so wonderful!
Haha – try ‘deepl.com’ instead of google translate. It’s the best I’ve come across.
I felt the same way about les indemodables (timeless or not going out of fashion >> mode = fashion, in- = negative). All’s very well made and i’m taken with vanille havane. but no real total love, until I tried fougere emeraude ?
Had various ideas for SotD. But with such cold temperatures (8F upon waking, and 27F high), and a beautiful 6″ layer of sparkling snow, I spotted my bottle of Insolence Eau Glacee and spritzed away. But I am an Insolence fan girl so any variety of Insolence is a never-fail for me! Hope everyone’s power is on, and work and school schedules get back on track!
The snow is melting a little and the garbage truck came through, delayed from last Friday. I’m still cleaning out old makeup, skin care, and sunscreen around the house, finding little stashes here and there. I found Visine from 2003. Apparently at one time I was going to use eye and cuticle cream before going to sleep, because the night stand was chock full of little jars and tubes. All gone, and it’s remarkable how much room there is in the drawer! The tissue box fits now. I’m fighting against winter in a few large spritzes of Virgin Island Water.
Yay for the garbage truck getting thru!
SOTD is Guerlain AA ginger picante. I just received it yesterday. It was an almost-blind buy, I tried it once at duty free in 2019 (last time I was traveling before the pandemic) but didn’t remember too much about it. I just really wanted a ginger scent in my collection and the price was right! I like it so far, it reminds me of a ginger soda, and I can see it working in any weather.
You smell great! Ginger Piccante is one of my favorite AA.
Yay, happy to hear of another fan. It’s not one of the AA that gets a lot of mentions!
IIRC, it has a lot of fans here at NST. Lots of people were wearing it last summer. Or was it the summer before?
I’ve been enjoying trying two scents from the same house at the same time, so today I have Coco on one wrist and Coco Mademoiselle on the other. I used to wear Coco in high school but moved on to Angel in college and gave away the last third of my bottle to a college roommate who LOVED it. Got nostalgic for it recently and was happy to find a sample mixed in with my department store freebies, along with a sample of Coco Mademoiselle. The CM is so youthful! All that sweet citrus! I’m too old to have worn it in high school, but that one would have been more age appropriate than the Coco! The Coco, tho, wow! Not sure why it has taken me 20 years to come back to it, but I think I need a FB.
Drinking Fortnum & Mason Christmas Black tea, my absolute favorite.
What a great smelling high school that must have been! I’m sure you smelled fantastic and appropriate as would now! Personally I much prefer Coco to CM, it’s too high pitched for me.
All these scent associations to age may change and vary when you take in the whole person. As a teen I wore Lou Lou and Anáis which I find so bombastic and loud now! Coco seems much more subdued and discreet in comparison.
I agree about the great smelling high school, we mostly wore Cabot musk oil and patchouli oil and the guys overwhelmingly wore Brut. It was sweaty and bad.
LOL! Actually, my high school smelled overwhelmingly of Drakkar Noir and its dupes. Someone, somewhere must have said it was cool, and thus ALL of the boys wore it. Rough math: 1200 kids, so 600 boys x 1 spray (at least) per day = a FB’s worth of DN wafting around the school all day everyday. I actually rather like DN (I’m sure there is phycologist’s goldmine of scent-memory-associated reasons for that! 🙂 ), but oh, our poor teachers who had to live through that fog everyday! Saints!
I found a bag of samples from years ago marked “Keep” which is weird cuz I know I also have an entire Sample Sea of things I meant to try again. I figured I should just put the “Keep” bag into the giveaway pile to avoid further insanity but nooooo. I pulled out Shalimar EDC, figuring that I would dislike it as I do most iterations, and lo and behold I’m really enjoying it.
See, there was good reason why those samples were marked “Keep”! ?
Well, I do have a very old bottle of Shalimar edt that I hated. It has a non-functioning sprayer, but I could smash it open and annihilate my interest in ever smelling anything like it ever again. Of course that could backfire…?
I honestly wonder if someone would want to trade or swap for that, even in its current condition?
I was going to try to fix it and give it away, but it’s been packed in a moving box until yesterday.
Robin, the first picture kind of looks like it’s tie-dyed. I’m digging it!
We recently got a notice from our utility company saying that they would need to replace our gas meter. My first thought was “In Winter? Are you kidding?!” Has anyone else gone thru something similar? In any case, we have an appointment for that scheduled in March. Wish us luck.
SOTD = more AG Ambre Fetiche. The temps have come a tumbling down from yesterday, and something cozy is definitely called for today! Brrrrrrrrrrrr!
They replaced mine a few years ago. It didn’t take long at all.
Thanks lillyjo! That’s definitely reassuring.
I was told that they need access to all the gas-powered appliances in my house, which has me wondering what all they are going to do. ??
Hmmm… maybe they have to make sure everything is hooked up correctly? I don’t think they did that here though.
If they have to move my 300-lb clothes dryer, I don’t envy them one bit! It’s built like a tank.
They switch me from an old meter to a smart one a few years ago and it was quick. If I remember correctly, they tested all of my gas appliances to make sure they would work once the new meter was installed, but they didn’t mess with the piping or anything like that. I like the smart meter bc the meter reader can check it with some type of short range device from outside the house without having to see the meter itself. So no more scheduling appointments for them to access my basement to read it or fighting with them over ridiculously high estimated readings.
It does! Looks so much more modern than it is.
I like the concept of Random Acts of Kindness Day. I think it should run once a month, not just one day per year, especially in these times. And in case anyone is interested, there is an organization run by one of the actors from my favorite tv show called…..Random Acts.* They themselves do and inspire others to practice daily acts of kindness, big and small. Check them out at randomacts.org.
*not affiliated with them, though thinking of volunteering, nor are they faith-based, in case anyone is wondering. 🙂
Vintage Dioressence for me today! Loving it.
I’m posting my scent of the evening. It is Viva la Juicy Noir. For the last few weeks, I’ve only been wearing my “best” perfumes to get me through this cold snap. I got it in my head that I should get rid of the one’s that didn’t make the cut. When I sniffed my Sote though, I thought hey this smells really good! Lol. Of course it does, that’s why I bought it.
Variety in perfume is a good thing ?
So true! What would we do without a perfume wardrobe?
Chiming in late – SotD was Zoologist Sloth, as a counterpoint to me running around like a headless chicken!
I’ve got a job!!!! It was SUCH a frenzy of last minute negotiating this week and then scrambling to get things ready. I received the contract to review at 10pm last night, and I’m booked on a train to Toronto **tomorrow afternoon**, if you can believe it.
More details to come, but thank you to everyone for the well wishes this past week, I am sure they helped!
Congratulations! I wish you the best of luck!
Congrats and good luck getting ready!
Great news! Congratulations!
Awesome news! Congrats!
Congratulations and safe travels! Train travel is so fun!
