It's a Tuesday in February. Happy birthday to LeVar Burton, and congrats on being named the inaugural PEN/Faulkner Literary Champion. (And if your calendar is open tonight, he'll be doing a reading at the launch of the new book Unsung: Unheralded Narratives of American Slavery & Abolition. Tickets to the livestream event are free.) Other literary birthdays: Henry Adams, Richard Ford. (Oops, almost forgot...happy Fat Tuesday!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Serge Lutens Santal Blanc, because pyramus mentioned it on Friday. Tea at the moment is what I've been drinking lately on cold mornings: 1/3 each Numi Chinese Breakfast, random Assam from Upton, Mariage Frères Chandernagor. Sometimes I mix in some Numi Golden Chai as well.
Reminder: on 2/19, we're doing the Picture Challenge, edition 6. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is The Girl by the Window by Edvard Munch, 1893. More reading here; larger copy of the image here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: "Kazuhiko Tomita’s Ciacapo Cast Iron Teapot takes its inspiration from traditional Japanese design without affecting the quality of the materials or the functionality of the object. Available in two sizes, the teapot is a robust and sturdy design that is perfect for brewing a flavorful cup of tea. The cast iron has a textured surface that is inviting and indicative of the material." The small is $140, the large is $168, at Luminaire.
SOTD: I used the “blind reach” method to chose a fragrance today: A Lilac A Day.
I like to do that! I also like to just wear whatever someone else here is wearing. Either is easier than deciding myself!
There is the even lazier version: wore what I wore yesterday. 😀
Ha, and the variation: whatever is still sitting on my desk!
😀
I’ve been wanting to try the monthly perfume tray idea, but my tray is where all my minis live, and somehow I can’t get passed the literal part of “perfume tray.” 😀
Great teapot! Wearing Kyoto to celebrate the clean, pure white snow in the sunshine. It’s really beautiful, especially since I don’t have to go anywhere. Peace out!
You smell wonderful. Enjoy your day in!
Kyoto is a great choice!
Twins!!
I love Kyoto! You smell great!
You smell great! The fiance loathes it though so I can’t wear my decant right now 🙁
That’s interesting – Iv not heard of anyone loathing it before!
Koyel’s fiancé hates almost all perfume. There have been some notable exceptions, though.
I’ll be wearing Cuir Cannage until we get back home, since that little decant is all I brought to our no-power-at-home motel hideout.
Glad you were able to get to a place with power.
Me too … although I’m kind of bored. But then, I would be at home too, and much colder. 😀
Uh oh, do you know when your power will be restored? Heading to a motel is always my contingency plan if the furnace breaks. Hope you don’t have to be there too long!
So far, our power utility is so overwhelmed that they won’t even guess at how soon our neighborhood’s power will be restored. There were photos in our local paper this morning of downed trees all over the area – ice on top of accumulated snow equals sad trees – which made me glad we took an aging, very leggy plum tree out of our front yard recently.
I’m glad you found a way to manage. I have been worrying about Texans (not that I know whether you are one) for several days, since the whole snow storm and power outage is not an experience for which few Texans are prepared. I grew up knowing the rules; including long underwear, flashlights, hurricane lamps, serious boots checking on neighbors.
Good luck with your power! You smell magnificent.
Thank you! I love CC, and really wish I had invested in more of it before it disappeared.
Enjoy your hotel break, SheriG! Whenever we’ve thought to do that, we’re always too late and they’re all booked.
We had some trouble finding a room, but Mr. G is resourceful and relentless in the face of no tv for him and no coffee for me. 😀
You smell great! I’m sorry they discontinued Cuir Cannage. Hope your power is restored soon.
Thank you! Why is it always the best fragrances that get d/c’d?
STC and TPC still carry it in case you’re interested in buying another decant.
Glad to hear that you are somewhere safe and warm!
Wearing an ancient sample of Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue (now just called Lexington Avenue because I guess their contract with the Warhol foundation expired?). Cool spices for a cold snowy morning. Nice, but I wouldn’t buy a whole bottle.
Yep, and wonder if the Foundation minded that they kept the scents. I always liked the Silver Factory one, but yeah, would not buy a full bottle and not at that price.
Sunny and 48 in NYC and I’m so excited!
I pulled out my sample of current Diorissimo because my vintage is still packed away in a box. I was hoping that I’d find it pretty close, but it just isn’t imho. Now I can utilize three more spritzing spots for sampling!
48!!?? Enjoy!
Thank you, I did! I hope you had a lovely day as well.
Enjoy the warmish day! And have fun with three more samples!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your day as well.
I sprayed for the rain/mist this morning, and now I’m all discombobulated…
I was stunned when the sun came out and the sky was so clear and blue!
Envying the folks who had blue skies today!
I think I’ll repeat in Adam Levine today, since I quite enjoyed it yesterday.
We are thinking of looking at cars tomorrow, since we know we will need one. AWD and heated seats are required. There seems to be an auto row in Queens where we can hop from one place to another. I dread dealing with this. Last time I bought a car was in 2007, and I basically handled it online.
Good luck! I hate car shopping too. Subarus seem to be very popular in Wisconsin…well at least they are in madison. I leased an outback for 3 years and was extremely happy with it. It handled great in the snow. I turned that in last may and purchased a vw alltrack (which also has heated seats and awd?) and it has also handled well this winter.
DH got a Subaru Outback last spring, and he’s loving it this winter. Handles great in the northern Illinois weather.
I have a 2014 Subaru Forester and am thrilled with it. And the seat heat is great!
Their ‘Gus’ ad is great! Is it aired in the US too?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YSbvZqV8rp0
My niece has a Crosstrek, which she loves and we are considering. But I want to look at Foresters too.
I used cargurus.com when I was looking at cars. I ended up finding the car I wanted through them, although I bought from the dealer. For used cars my sister swears by carmax.
Good luck LizzieB!
I bought my last car over the phone in 2009, a Honda Fit, and am so bummed they stopped importing them (had planned on buying another in 2020) that I will just drive the current one until it dies.
That’s what I’m doing with my 2008 Fit! There’s nothing out there this size and I really love my little car.
Exactly! Plus, it has never given me a minute of trouble…might get years more out of it.
I saw a number of those in WI when I visited. Nice!
Good luck car shopping! I have only bought two vehicles in my life (I’m 40), and fortunately both were winners. I have no helpful advice except to check out Certified Pre-Owned. It’s like getting a new car at steep discount.
Good luck with car shopping! For research, I liked True Delta in addition to Consumer Reports when doing the research for my last car.
If you stumble across one with a heated steering wheel in addition to your other requirements, jump on it! I don’t even live in a cold climate, but hand warmth is always appreciated.
I love that my car has a heated seat. It’s soooo comforting!
Good luck shopping, LizzieB. Don’t let a salesman pressure you into a purchase. My last car purchase was a panic buy, because the car I was driving – an older Audi – cost a fortune in repairs. I panic-bought a used 328i. Didn’t get as good a deal as they said I would, but I do have heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Seemed dumb at the time, but I love it. Good car, but I’m nearing the dreaded 100k mile mark when German car engines tend to become IEDs. Will drive it until it dies.
Also, know the car you’re purchasing. In 2011, I purchased a three year old Mercedes with 7,400 miles. When it got time to speak with the sales manager to sign the loan paperwork, he tried to sell me insurance for my ‘low profile’ tires.
He didn’t know that he was speaking to a former gear head. I knew my tires were not low profile. I declined the offer – he still insisted that I would regret my decision.
When my sales person Carlos delivered my car to work the next day, he confirmed my tires weren’t low profile.
I made sure to mention my experience to him. He got a laugh out of it. 😉
Good luck on the car search….I used CarMax about two years ago and had an excellent experience–got everything I wanted at the price I wanted, no hassle.
Good luck car shopping! Plenty of sound advice here to help out.
Sandalsun
Hazelnut accord, pure vanilla extract, myrrh essence
Tea is French Breakfast and then a almond milk cappuccino
Thrift outfit of the day is a gray tulle skirt, how can you be in a bad mood when you wear a ballet type of skirt?
I’ve never heard of sandalsun, tell me more….?
its a sweet wood gourmand fragrance, they market as a lazy sunny day under the sun but for me that is Songes. This one is nutty with vanilla, cozy and smooth. its sweet without being overwhelming
“Everything is beautiful at the ballet….” name that tune/show?
I had to look it up! I hate it when I lose at name that tune.?
I’m wearing several sprays of Reglisse Noire today, and smelling glorious. Odd, because I don’t like to eat licorice, but I enjoy it so much as a perfume note.
You do smell glorious. Maybe I’ll wear that tomorrow! Such a unique and special fragrance.
I really loved my sample of that, I need to get a decent some day.
I’m in Narciso White Cube. I almost forgot about this one but then I was reminded of it while reading a blog yesterday.
The sun is out and we are supposed to be in the teens today!? Finally out of the single digits and I couldn’t be happier. I spent most of yesterday working on a paper. Submitted it at 3:00 and the professor had it graded by 6:30! That was a first. Three months from today I will be done. It’s a good thing, I’m starting to get senioritis, lol. I need to stay focused and keep my eye on the prize.??
You can do it!!! You’re so close, just a little linger.
Only three months, yay!!
That’s exciting, congratulations on your accomplishment! Three months will fly by!
You smell wonderful – such a good feeling to be near to finishing any kind of school or continuing ed!!
You can do it!
We are having a gorgeous warm day. 48 degrees already in my area. What a nice break! Hope it reaches 50 this afternoon!
Wearing Tauer Amber Flush Body oil and drinking my second cup of coffee with a pączki to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Back to my desk now.
Happy Tuesday! ?
We are jointed at the hip….at with our Tauer Body Oil!! And, I am just finishing my second cup of coffee, but I’m going with pancakes later.
Yay! Double twins! Those Tauer Body Oils are fantastic! I hope to get the Wowilla if it becomes available again. All the oils have been out of stock for a while already, unless they were discontinued.
We’re going to have pancakes for supper. 🙂
That’s going to be delicious!
I saw 51 degrees on a couple of weather apps this afternoon. That little taste of April was nice, wasn’t it?
We reached 52. I even opened the windows for a couple of hours. It was so uplifting!
I’m back to the Gallivant discovery set and wearing Tel Aviv.
I used the blind reach method today, too, and pulled out Chloe from a bag of testers. It is such a pretty scent, but I prefer Roses de Chloe.
Drink Queen Anne tea from Fortnum & Mason and hoping the “warm” 48 degree weather melts all of the deadly-looking icicles off my roof!
I had that same tea for breakfast. Love F&M!
Scent: Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia from a sample. Nice stuff.
I love that one!
SL De Profundis. I love the ride on this one (only a sample, but may someday be more).
I’m still thinking about the cp for Friday. I have a couple of ideas.
Back to digging out of work email…
That one is gorgeous! I’m digging out work email also. 😯
I am very curious to read how everyone interprets the cp this Friday. Looking forward to some creative interpretations.
I love that one!
I’m emerging from my 4-day weekend (and denial) in Esprit d’Oscar, and oh man am I in love! Best Marshall’s blind buy ever.
Glad it worked out! My best Marshall’s blind buy was Angel Muse. Yum.
Esprit d’Oscar was gone in a flash from the department stores, it seems.
It’s 22 degrees outside, but there’s not a cloud in the sky, so the landscape is beautiful. The pond out back has frozen over….amazing! The ducks were sliding around on the surface and quacking their indignation. I feel bad for them! They’re gone now. Hopefully one of the bigger lakes nearby are more hospitable.
We have power and water today, and I’m grateful. There are many that do not. I’m in Santal Kardamon and enjoying it. Tea is Taylor’s Assam + chai tea bag for some “extra”.
Laughing at the image of indignant ducks…
Your post brings new meaning to the phrase “Angry Birds”.
I’m wearing Twilly Eau Poivree again, from the shelf of current rotation.
We are still digging out from the winter weather that hit yesterday. I had to work, but we opened late and then closed early because there was no way the afternoon shift was going to make it in. (Only half the morning shift made it.) I wouldn’t have risked it in my Civic; I nicked my stepdad’s Dodge 4×4. I haven’t driven a big truck since being laid off from the farm in December 2019. I missed it! Anyway, it’s still lightly snowing, but I think we’ll be in the clear tomorrow.
Spending the day doing laundry, homework, and studying for a test. Hope everybody is staying safe, warm, and scented!
Hope you do well on your test – and glad you got some extra time off work!
Adding more good wishes for your test!
Here in Poland a more traditional thing is a Fat Thursday (last week) when we eat a lot of donuts (pączki).
Today I thunked a sample of Mona di Orio Suede de Suede.
Our grocery store had boxes of paczki on tables in front of the check out lanes yesterday! I, however, did not try them because we had pie at home. Maybe next year. They look very tasty.
The local news stations over in Philadelphia mentioned people getting paczki at some of the area bakeries today.
Santal Blanc is so beautiful!
And that teapot looks too dangerous to be in my kitchen – lol!
SOTD: Blue Agava & Cacao
Hope all our Texas friends are hanging in there with the snow and loss of power. Just heard from my family that theirs got restored this morn.
You smell great!
Trying Memory Motel again from Une Nuit Nomade again…this one has carnation which can be challenging for me…like clove…it’s the eugenol! 😉 No affiliation to Fragrantica.
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Carnation-and-Clove-13400.html
Eau des Merveilles because I love it and craved it. It’s an insanely busy day but at least I’ve got smelling great covered!
Hope you got a break by now sistine!
Hi all, my sotd is a dab of Narcisco Rodriguez Musc Oil for her (from the 2006 bottle).
Not feeling up to snuff, still not eating much, but if I sip on tea or broth, I seem to do okay. Hey, this might jumpstart my Spring weight loss program! I’ll call it the Jenny Plague system. 😀
I hope you feel better soon! Sending cheer, and I’m glad the tea and broth are helping.
Ha ha ha (thanks for the pun). Hope you feel better soon!
Haha – Jenny Plague. Feel better!!
😆
Feel better!
Hope you feel better soon, or you at least fit into your skinny pants! LOL. 🙂
I have my Lucky Jeans in size 8 at the ready!
Excellent. Trademark that name now!
hugs! feel better
First day of my work week means it’s a good day to wear an easygoing comfort scent. Boucheron Iris de Syracuse fits the bill, and now I’m within thunking distance with this sample. It’s similar in character to Lolita Lempicka minus the anise. I’d call it a fluffy white sweet iris, mainly iris, heliotrope, vanilla, and white musk to my nose.
Grr, adding a complaint about perfume samples, decants, or bottles where the atomizer tube doesn’t go all the way to the bottom of the bottle. I had to toss my Iris de Syracuse sample with some perfume still in it because the sprayer couldn’t reach what was left. I tried to take it apart and dump it on me, but even pliers couldn’t easily remove the atomizer part, and I didn’t want to end up with broken glass.
OTOH – thunk!
That one’s so pretty!
Was going to wear Byredo Blanche for the CP today, but I’m rotating (6 week internship) with a new lab group today and don’t remember if Blanche was office-friendly on me.
SotD is Amyris femme, I hope it helps me make a good impression!
That’s a great choice. Good luck with your internship rotations.
It’s warming up just enough to snow so I’m cozying up in a gourmand, Pierre Guillaume Musc Maori. Smells like chocolate milk.
Spending part of my morning checking up on friends in places that have lost power. I’m trying to escape my cold weather climate this summer, but all this mess is making me very grateful my city has the infrastructure to handle these things. Good luck to those of you who are freezing and make sure to leave your faucets trickling!
You smell great Dorsey!
Agree! That’s an old favorite.
Here the snow was underwhelming, only two or three inches and less ice than elsewhere. We still have power. Sending positive vibes to everyone who does not.
SOTD is Shalimar EDP over Muscs Koublai Khan, which Was applied a couple of hours earlier. The MKK base seems to make Shalimar warmer, though I find it to be a warm scent already. There was no thought involved in this experiment. I am hoping to be back in the classroom next week, so my “anything goes” approach to fragrance will have to be reined in.
Glad your storm was no big deal 🙂
I never think the layer Shalimar..sounds fun!
I’m thinking about what shoes to wear to work today, I’ve got a big bruise right on my big toe joint. I was making a cup of tea last night and knocked the empty cup off the bench, it landed very hard on my foot! It’s not as painful as it was last night, but still hurts and it’s a horrible shade of purple.
So I’ve decided Mitsouko might add back some glamour in my life 🙂
Sorry about your foot, hope it gets to it’s normal state as swiftly as possible
Ow! I vote for Ugg slippers. 😉
Ouch! That sounds like something I would do. Hope it is better soon.
Yowtch! I hope that you found shoes that wouldn’t aggravate your poor toe.
I thunked my 25mL split of Vanille 44 today. I’d already gone through 5 or 10 mL previous to getting this one…I might have to actually consider buying a 50mL at this point.
You’ve already gone through about a whole bottle then! I’d say if you still love it, it might be time to commit.
You know that I will encourage you to get a FB ?
Ambre de Merveilles today, because I longed for something cosy and uncomplicated.
I made roast turkey legs for lunch with a herb and garlic compound butter plus carrots and rice. And I managed two walks outside, one after lunch and one with the boyfriend after he finished work. I am still exhausted after walking at a very slow pace, but I have time to regenerate til next Monday.
Good improvement! Hope you are back to normal soon.
Sounds like just what the Dr. ordered!
It’s hardly just a Tuesday in February — it’s Mardi Gras! I realize I may be the only Cajun here, but happy Mardi Gras to y’all!
I’m in Dzing! because it’s a party in a bottle. Making gumbo while trying to get as much work done as possible, which is a dubious effort.
I went with SI Magazine Street today! Laissez les bons temp rouler!
Isabella…do see the end of the first paragraph above…I did remember! Just not until I’d had a cup of tea.
Have a great night – gumbo is one of the best foods ever, IMHO!
I love Cajun and Creole food! Enjoy that gumbo!
Sotd is Nankun Kodo
A yummy spicy incense. I need to wear this more often. ?
I just ordered my Les Indemodables sample set, really excited about it. Hope you are doing ok in the new job.
My new job is great but very busy. And working from home and trying to get used to new stuff and people is kinda tiresome.
Love to read about your experience with the Les Indemodables set.
I couldn’t agree more on new jobs and working from home
Random sample grab of SL Ambre Sultan. I go back and forth on wanting a bottle of this, but then I look at my collection with a mixture of joy and horror and stop myself from buying more.
This is EXACTLY how I feel about the thousand fantastic scents I badly want to buy but cannot in any way justify.
I gave in and started buying 5ml decants again. Just can’t justify any more full bottles, even though I hate decants and they evaporate.
Wearing Cacharel Anaïs-Anaïs Premier Délice, chocolate over flowers with a pear note, quirky and easy to wear at the same time.
That would be a good perfume for Valentine’s Day.
Ah yes, now that you mention it, chocolate covered pears, although strawberries are more usual.
Wearing l’Ame Soeur by Divine. It is so, do lovely and remember buying it in Paris, in the lovely shop on the Rue Scribe. It is actually rather a good match with the picture.
You smell wonderful! I remember buying my bottle at the Divine shop in the rue Scribe as well.
My power went out on Sunday night due to the ice storm, so no heat, hot water, electricity, or phone. Fortunately I have a gas stove, so I could light a burner with a match, and a fireplace with a decent supply of dry wood. Yesterday I tended the fire, drank very bad coffee (I think I poured it through the filter too fast), and did a jigsaw puzzle while it was light. For dinner I had a freeze-dried and rehydrated pouch of beef stew that I bought in case the Big Earthquake strikes. It tasted much better than I expected, so if the Big One does hit, at least I’ll have eight days of tasty meals. I went to bed wearing two flannel layers and a hat, and woke up to power. Big thanks to the linemen who worked so hard to get the grid back up and running, conditions were so icy and cold at times. I took a long hot shower and now I’m wearing African Leather.
Foxbins, are you in touch with people on cell phone? It sounds dangerous out there!
On an entirely different note I sprayed a very old sample of African Leather last night and LOVED it. Much preferred it to Italian Leather. The only other Memo I’m familiar with is Grenada which was just exquisitely happy to my nose, but to pricey for my pocket (at the time!)
No cell service, my provider was hit by the power outage, too, but my neighborhood takes care of each other. I helped dig out the neighbor’s car and another neighbor offered me hot coffee if I needed it.
African Leather is my favorite of the Memo leathers.
That’s great to hear!
Glad you have power back, and had gas/fireplace!
Glad your power is back on! You smell great, too.
You sound very resourceful – and also we have great neighbors that help and keep an eye out. But we happily kept our power last night and had a beautiful day today to dig out.
Glad to hear that you have power back on!
In another round of Iris Dragées, it was so good yesterday. 🙂
Much appreciation for having a warm home with working electricity after power being out for a day.Wearing Boyfriend’s EDP spray today. A warm cozy scent to celebrate power being restored!
I’m sampling 10 Corso Como today, and I like it. I already have more full bottles of perfume than I will probably ever be able to use up in my lifetime, but if I didn’t I’d consider a purchase, maybe.
Today is my last day of vacation, wah! It’s been so nice. Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.
Last night’s anticipated weather didn’t show up until 1am. The good news: it was plain old cold rain. The bad news: I was awake to hear it. Hoping that I get a decent night’s sleep tonight.
Glad to hear that folks are getting their power back on!
SOTD = back in AG Ambre Fetiche EdP. It’s been nice having a “grab and go” perfume.
You smell great! I haven’t worn Ambre Fétiche in a coon’s age. Hope you get good sleep tonight!
Thanks! Ambre Fetiche really shines in cold weather. And I hope that I drop off at a decent hour tonight, too! ?
You smell good, but then again, you already know that!
SotD came late after a work day in clothes that had too many other drydowns for a new scent! Continuing to explore my Chanel samples with 31 Rue Cambon – starts with one of the best pepper notes I’ve ever smelled. Looking forward to what comes next. Going to have to take a break from Chanel tomorrow, though: my sample of Dolly Parton’s new perfume arrived today. I am wondering about the name, because the sample card does not mention “Scent from Above” so perhaps they were not sure when the samples were being prepared? Looking forward to trying it. Stay warm, all.
-8 here overnight tonight. I hope everyone here is safe and well.
Thanks to a generous Nster I am wearing Givenchy Ysatis. I smell beautiful ?????
You do smell beautiful! I wore that back when it was a new release.
I have that one too..you smell wonderful
I remember seeing bottles of that at the nice department stores back in the late 1980’s.
In Nuit de Bakelite – such a lovely and interesting Tuberose by Isabelle Doyen.
