Monday, plus a whole slew of holidays: Hippo Day, Singles Awareness Day, Presidents Day, National Flag of Canada Day, Susan B Anthony Day, ENIAC Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Sarah Jessica Parker Splash SJP oops no that's STASH, because MossyBerry brought it up yesterday.
Reminder: on 2/19, we're doing the Picture Challenge, edition 6. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is The Girl by the Window by Edvard Munch, 1893. More reading here; larger copy of the image here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning and Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It’s rainy cold gray here, but at least it’s not sleeting or snowing here…..
Doing the almond powdery thing in Guerlain L’Instant Magic. Good stuff! Dries down to a nice soft cozy dealio….
Omg, JadainGA – – someone else who loves that?! I used an entire large bottle in my mid-30’s, then got another in 2018 as I started my perfume hobby & wanted to revisit all the lovelies from my past. This is not meant as an insult, but rather a compliment: It kind of smells like supuh-high-end Love’s Baby Soft to me. (And yes, I drenched myself in LBS as a teenager, as did my sister, lmao…) I find it an extremely sexy scent, as well as cashmere-cozy. It’s different from its parent-scent, which I also find warm & comforting.
Oh wow! I TOTALLY get the Love’s Baby Soft vibe too! It really is great stuff. Full bottle worthy for sure! When my decant runs out I may have to invest in a FB! 🙂
I got mine on fragrancex back in 2018 (50 ml bee bottle for ~$40). I just checked and they’re out. I avoid fragrancenet, but just checked there and they’re out too. The Guerlain website is still selling a 100 ml bottle for not too steep a price:
https://www.guerlain.com/uk/en-uk/p/linstant-magic-eau-de-parfum-P013314.html
Although it may have been reformulated between 2007 when I first got it and 2018 when repurchased, it smells exactly the same to me. Anise is listed in the top notes and I don’t know anyone who hates anise (including licorice/pernod/ouzo/sambvcca) more than me, but I don’t smell it at all in L’Instant Magic. I definitely smelled it in Guerlain’s Apres L’ondee, which is why I gave my bottle away after 2 sprays.
Yep, love it too, quite a simple perfume really.
Had to dig out my sample from several years ago, thankfully not evaporated. Pretty good stuff! Amazing what a few years and more experience help you to appreciate.
Shalimar Philtre de Perfume today. Philtre is recognisably Shalimar, but Shalimar in tilt-shift. The opening is a sherbet blast of bright, zesty citrus and iris, almost but not quite rooty. The petrolic quality of regular Shalimar is there, but it’s pushed right back into the distance. As the citrus fades the rose and jasmine come into hazy focus and the vanilla appears for a really lovely creamy effect. The drydown is gorgeous, as the ever strengthening vanilla is joined by a chocolatey patchouli for a more gourmand take on Shalimar’s base. However, it’s never cloying or overpowering because Philtre is rather demure and quiet. Right now I love it more than the EDT version of Shalimar, but not as much as the EDP or EDC.
In more exciting news, after a 4 week wait (and frankly I’d given up on it ever arriving), my bottle of Passage d’Enfer Extreme turned up this morning!
I want to try your SOTD
How is the silage and longevity?
Longevity is good, I’ve had it on for a good 7 hours now and it’s still going strong, but it is quieter than regular Shalimar. It’s one you can overspray without gassing everyone in your vicinity!
Thanks for the report – I am very curious to test it.
Yay for the new bottle arriving!
Lovely review. How does Passage d’Enfer Extreme compare to regular PdE? The regular is a favorite of mine. That’s great that your bottle finally arrived.
Dunno yet, I love the original too so just went for it – what could possibly go wrong…
Enjoy that new bottle, I am a tad jealous!
Me too!
Thanks for the review…that one is on my sample list.
Now I am really curious about the Philtre!
Inspired by BobH, I am in Shalimar EdP
And don’t we smell fantabulous!
FanTabulous is perfect way to describe us!
Triplets!
SotD is Samsara, edp
a vintage-ish version i think, from a mini,
it smells rich and lush
Rich & lush is exactly how I’d describe this beauty!
Gorgeous perfume, that one.
Sotd is Lush – Orange Blossom, this is my favourite lush fragrance. If you are a orange blossom fiend, you must try this.
Agreed. The Lush is a very good orange blossom.
I wear the heck out of this one in the summer — it’s lovely!
Two Lush solids, Lust and Rose Jam, smooshed together, because everyone knows that jasmine and rose are best buds and this combination really is nice.
Nice combo!
You smell wonderful and Lush solids are really nice. Simon Constantine left Lush and started his own fragrance brand called and, with a little circle over the a, in England, of course, so he currently cannot ship any of the new line in liquid form but he can ship the solids that come in a little tagua nut complete with cap. The initial roll out is Mad(vanilla), Bare(cedar), Frank(frankincense), Bean(tonka), and Sand(sandalwood). Now the good part. Everything is sustainably sourced and profits from the line actually go back to the small farms that produce the ingredients. Essentially, Simon has cut out the middleman and gone right to the source building partnerships with farmers and actually helping with the replanting of single source and endangered plants. I ordered Frank and Sand and not only are the solids luxuriously textured, they melt readily into your skin, they are both interesting riffs on materials you think you already know. Frank is definitely lemony, fresh not church. Sand is Australian sandalwood with mimosa and vetiver and has some lovely banana facets. I am eager for someone to carry this line in the United States. P.S. The seal on the tagua nut is no joke. My husband had to place the little thing in the vise grip and gently encourage the lid off, wiggling it side to side. I have Sikkim Girls(jasmine) in solid and it would mashup beautifully with either of these.
Frank sounds wonderful!
In a tiny spritz of Nomenclature Shi_So to wake up and then Tauer Rose Delight Body Oil post shower.
Very sleepy today. On my first cup of coffee and still in bed. Need to set up my new cell phone that arrived earlier this morning after it slipped from my hand last week when outside and the screen broke into million pieces. Not that I needed a new phone, but there was no option.
Planning on doing some minor cleaning and then relax for the rest of the day.
Happy Monday! ?
Oh, no! I drop my phone all the time and still amazed that I’ve managed to not shatter my screen. Sorry that happened for you.
Thank you, Floragal. I also drop my phone continuously, but this is the first time that it was so bad. I slipped on the street thanks to black ice on the sidewalk and the phone flew from my hands and crashed in an insanely way. I hope winter is over soon!
That black ice is so dangerous. Worry about this as I get older, especially in the city where it is all concrete. Be careful out there!
Thank you, Floragal. You too be careful outside!
Oh ouch!! Glad you are ok.
Thanks, Robin!
Better for the phone to smash into smithereens than you! I say that as someone who took a tumble in 2015 and broke my shoulder. Had to sleep in a medical lift chair (aka The Barcalounger) in my dining room for months, and work from home once I was off the painkillers (as quickly as possible). Silver lining: that’s when I started blogging, and really reading blogs like this one. Stay safe!
I am so sorry to hear you had such terrible fall. I was very lucky not to hurt myself this time. Walking on the street has become a dangerous activity now.
I’m glad you weren’t hurt seriously in that fall, M. It’s such a hassle to lose a phone! You smell delightful today! ??♀️?☃️
Thank you, dear! Now, I am carefully spending time setting everything up, something that in this particular case is time consuming. At least I am fine! ?
And I am thanking God for that, my sweet friend…?
Body Oil Twins today!!
Yay! We smell great! ?
Sorry about your phone. But I’m more sorry about your slip on the ice; black ice is so treacherous.
You are smelling great in Rose Delight!
Thank you, Gail! I am always scared of hitting my head, thanks God that wasn’t the case.
Sorry to be Feb. Fall Twins with you, PL67! But mine was not an ice issue – more of a klutz issue!
Fall Twins! Not good, but at least I don’t feel alone! ?
Oh that’s a beautiful oil! It sits in my shower. I’m glad you weren’t hurt when you fell. Enjoy your new phone!
It is indeed a beautiful oil. I also love the Amber Flush body oil. They are both amazing!
For a minute, I thought you had dropped your new phone, and broke the screen on it! Still, it’s a shame that you took a spill. Hopefully you don’t have any bumps or bruises. ?
Fortunately, I was wearing a very thick jacket and my back wasn’t hurt. We are expecting 46 degrees and rain for tomorrow, so I hope some of the snow melts before more arrives on Thursday.

It’s yours! ?
Hi PL67, I would like to dib on #2 if it is still available.
You got it! ?
My library is closed today and tomorrow, so I’m at home in my comfy clothes and wearing a comfy scent, Alkemia Hex. For some reason I like a perfume oil on a cold day. Southeast Texas goes crazy on a snowy, icy day. We just aren’t used to this weather. At the end of this week we are supposed to be back up into the 70s.
First, thanks to everyone for the condolences & support when I posted about my aunt passing last week. Very much appreciated. I made it to the services, really no problem at all, despite the unnerving forecasts.
Scent: started out with ElizabethW Sweet Tea, but it fades fast. I’m working with a very pretty rollerball (really, it’s a pleasure), so maybe I should just keep on rollin’.
Tea: English Breakfast, maybe Twinings? At any rate, a bit tasteless. Turns out the stuff from Upton or Harney is worth the time & effort.
Reading: browsing through Longreads.com
Shoot! I posted in the wrong place!
At any rate, I’m envious of your forecast!
Yes n Houston it’s just 15 outside with snow on the ground and a lot of power outages! I’m lucky to still have power and water, but it’s a bad situation.
Good morning 🙂 I am wearing Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche and drinking a cup of Himalayan Green tea.
Gotta love those LPRN flankers – I’m a fan of that line, especially the Black Perfectos, so I’d bet you smell wonderful!
I really love my Black Perfecto. An Eau Fraiche sounds interesting.
Black Perfecto – PSA – edt and edp are still perfume-math free at the discounters. Get that 30mls. Thank me later!
Have you tried both the edt and edp? Do you prefer one over the other? I have the Black Perfecto eau florale edp and it’s very nice. I’ve never been able to really figure out if the eau florale is different from the original Black Perfecto (flanker of a flanker!!! Hahahaha).
Ditto on the EdP vs EdT. I have the EdP. Curious about the EdT
I am already too perfumed today to re-test what the difference between them is! Will try to follow up, but there is some difference, and at about $20 for 30mls of the edt, or maybe even better, I am *glad* to have both. The edt bottle is so pretty with that bee and rose design, not that the looks outdo the scent, BTW.
A paid holiday. I’ll take it.
Anything for not waking up at 5am
Am taking sick day for dental appt on Wednesday so can sleep in then too.
Chilly start to morning sipping coffee and catching up on news
Started Queens Gambit last night, is great!
Some le lion today I think. Have a smash cake party on zoom for my friends, one year old who I have yet to see in person.
The smash cake party sounds fun to watch on Zoom ? Does one need a knowledge of chess to enjoy Queen’s Gambit?
No, one needs the ability to have Netflix and a desire for a great story.
Thanks! I just moved it updated in my list.
They very skillfully find a way to explain just enough that you’re not lost without bogging you down with the details of it. I blew through it in one lazy Sunday.
SotD Jorum Studio Phloem. Phloem is my go-to “wake up and get motivated” scent, it’s got a pungent cacaphony that inevitably hits me like an espresso shot.
Still negotiating with the production for which I’ve been offered a role. The pay has gone up but with insufficient guarantees, so we’re not quite there yet… Crossing my fingers. My industry is both hit hard by the pandemic *and* entirely un-unionized and unregulated as far as pay and work conditions go, so self-advocating is critical.
In happy news, my new pillows are ready for pickup! That was far shorter than 6-8 weeks, woohoo!
Good luck with the negotiations! I feel like companies are using the pandemic and the widespread un/underemployment to make lowball offers. I had an initial phone screening for a job a few days ago, and they asked what salary range I was looking for. As soon as I said, they tried to bring the number down! Ridiculous.
Yeah – it’s a weird situation where it’s a stunt I wouldn’t normally perform, but they couldn’t bring their international team in due to COVID, so there was a lot of back and forth in the regional market to try to establish what we felt were acceptable rates for the work.
For sure their initial number was a lowball offer, but thankfully they’ve at least been amenable to negotiating.
Good luck with negotiating and also congats on those pillows (I’m still curious to know what they are… 🙂
Tatalay latex pillows!
Hypoallergenic excepting latex allergies, dust mite resistant, ventilated so they tend to stay cool, and sustainable for the environment.
Good luck negotiating.
Fingers crossed for you teebear!
Sounds like things are at least moving in the right direction with your negotiations.
Tauer LADDM today…one of the handful of samples from my travel bag.
Packing up to leave our long weekend hideaway and head for the ferries. My kid is eating leftover chocolate cake for breakfast to get rid of it. Things you only do on vacation!
It sleeted all night on the real Mongolian yurt that is the bedroom here, which was very cozy to listen to. Amazing that it stayed pretty warm even in -7C temperatures the other night (with a couple of space heaters, of course).
Chocolate cake and a yurt sound like an awesome vacation!
Sure does!!!
Happy Monday! Robin–do you mean ‘Stash’ not Splash? Although I kind of like the name Splash.
I’m in PG Bois Blond because Sistine mentioned it the other day. I should be happy because today is a day off, but it’s gray and cold and I’m still stuck in my house. However, I truly am grateful that it is a nice warm house with plenty of food (and perfume). Maybe I’ll actually just sit and read a book for a while. I rarely get to do that.
Oh, shoot. This is not at all where I meant to post, sorry. However, I did read your post, Ockeghem, and thought “what a great winter weekend getaway!”
HA, and figures I did not get to the comments today until 6:30!!! Off to fix, thanks so much.
Your yurt experience sounds awesome!
That sounds like such a cool experience!!!
Wearing DSH Inner Sanctum with dabs of American Beauty besides. I wanted a deep rose that still has some sparkle and this is a great combination.
We’re in the cold, heavy snow part of this storm which this area is used to, though it’s been a while since we’ve had a real winter like this. My husband and I were discussing why being snowed in pleasurable while being in quarantine is not, even with the reality of digging out of a foot of snow. Sheer fear factor?
I think because being snowed in has the connotations of being cozy, an excuse to drink more hot chocolate, and is known to be temporary. Whereas quarantine has the connotation of scarcity and worry, doesn’t necessarily end, and that’s hard for our brains to deal with, plus the chances of actually getting sick, which is no fun, and possibly fatal.
*nodding* that’s pretty much where we ended up too.
Plus, you know the snow will be all sparkly once the clouds are gone, and help amplify the sunshine so that winter doesn’t seem quite so bleak.
I’m wearing Ciel d’Opale, for its light and bright notes that always trigger feelings of optimism; much needed on practically every Monday morning.
You smell good – this is one my complimented scents, and I think just really pretty!
That’s exactly how it strikes me – just really pretty!
Hello everyone, wearing Volutes in the EdT concentration, as I have been for the past 3 days. I think Sycomore is a good cold (20 degree) scent, and Volutes is a good slightly warmer (30 degree) scent. Really hitting that February point where I just crave warm enough weather to bask in all my light citrus/floral/green scents again…
You inspired me to dig out my Sycomore sample for today!
You smell great!
Good morning everyone, my SOTD is White Tea by Perfectly Scentsable (formerly Remedy NorthWest, formerly Body Time of Berkeley). For folks who want a longer-lasting, less expensive version of Au the Blanc by Bvlgari, this fits the bill nicely. 🙂
I was released from UCSF, had a bad bout of pancreatitis and an infection, elevated WBC, and fever. This visit really took it out of me.
Home sipping tea and resting, I have Smokey slippers, apparently he missed me! 😀
Everyone have a good day!
I am glad to hear you are already home, SmokeyToes, but I am so sorry to hear this visit was very tough for you. I hope you feel better soon! Sending hugs! ?
Thank you, they wanted to keep me a fourth day but I declined, better to be away from the hospital germs, and I sleep better at home anyway. 🙂
Wishing you a speedy & full recovery!
SmokeyToes! I am so sorry, and so glad you are back home. I hope your period of rest can continue as long as you – and your “slippers” want and need. I have not found my perfect tea scent yet, but I have been enjoying the real thing more during our recent Midwestern chill-out.
Glad you are better, SmokeyToes!
I hope you feel better soon, Smokey Toes!
Glad you are home and on the mend, SmokeyToes.
Glad you are home and Smokey is doing his job properly.
I laughed at the various names of Perfectly Scentsable. In fact, I remember when it was Body Shop, before Body Time. They changed names when the UK company Body Shop expanded into the U.S.
I love the company, and happy to support them but it seems they are trying to find their footing.
They are also carrying a line of skincare, but don’t know how similar it is to the former Body Time products….
Re:The Body Time thread,in Portland there was a lovely shop on Hawthorne that carried Body Time perfume oils under their shop name,Escentials? You could scent lotions, bubble bath with the scent of your choice as well as buy the perfume oils in different sizes. It went out of business before Body Time did.I loved the Sandalwood perfume oil.Glad to hear the scents are continuing.
Happy to hear you are home and on the mend. Sending big hugs and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hope you’re feeling much better soon!
Oh no, what a rough time you had, get well soon.
I’m glad you are home and I hope you are feeling better soon! And I’m looking for a replacement for Bulgari Au The Blanc, my last bottle went off, so thanks for the info.
It seems ATB was reformulated a few years ago, it has a decided barber shop note that wasn’t there previously. I have an older bottle and did a side by side comparison with the perfume oil from Perfectly Scentsible, they are identical. And the oil lasts for hours.
Everything is better with a feline “heated beanbag” to snuggle with! Hope you recover quickly & feel much better soon! ???
I am glad you are home and recovering.
Sorry to hear you were in the hospital. But I’m glad you’re home now and resting!
Thanks for the blast from the past memory of Body Shop/Body Time! I must have a crusty old bottle of Egyptian Musk somewhere. Happy to hear they are still around!
I loved their Egyptian Musk, I had a huge bottle that I recently finished. I adored many of their oils, the White Musk, Fig, Pomegranate, Muget. 🙂
Sorry to hear about your bout of illness. I’m sure the kitty nurse will do his best to aid in recovery!
Glad you are back home and that SmokeyToes is taking care of you!
Glad you are back from the hospital, and sorry it was a rough time. I hope you are feeling better very soon.
I’m happy to see you mentioned Berkeley Body Time. I remember that place from when I worked in Berkeley, and glad to know it is still around in some form.
Oh no, so sorry! But glad you are home and have nice fur slippers, of course.
I’m glad you are home now!
I’m sorry to hear you were so sick! Glad you’re home and recuperating now, SmokeyToes.
Sorry to hear that you had a rough go of it. Pancreatitis can be nasty! Glad that you are back home, and that SmokeyToes kitteh is looking after you.
Glad you are back home with your own bed and your own furry footwarmer! Swift recovery.
Beginning my exploration of Les Exclusifs today with Bois Des Iles, from a very generous NST’er. I was surprised to find it a little shy with me. It is very cold and dry here, so that may be why. It started to bloom as I got moving on some inside work, but when I did a little snow shoveling, it did not waft out from inside my coat, which surprised me. My first impression is: love. We keep getting the Winter Storm Warning, but just as our corner of the county often misses the rains in the summer, we keep missing the big snows in the winter. Just a scant 2″ of powder so far. At 18F snow does tend to be powdery! 🙂
Bois des Iles is quiet on me too.
You smell very elegant, glad you are not getting much snow ❄
Thanks but ompf! The snow finally decided to arrive. :0
Powdery snow is much nicer to deal with than “Sierra Cement” or “Cascades Concrete”!
Off to yoga in a few minutes, popping in to say I’m in Lancôme Iris Dragées.
Oh, and I received my sample of the Dolly Parton perfume. It is a cotton candy floral, not cloying or overwhelming though. Very pleasant and easy to wear.
Mine is on the way. Glad to hear it’s not cloying. The bottle is so cute & even though I’m not really a country music fan, I’ve always loved Dolly – – her songs & lyrics…and admired her spirit of genuineness…????♀️??
I was supposed to get Scent from Above today too, but I think we are going to have a mail delay due to the weather. That’s fine – I love our postal person who I hope is warm and cozy at home about now.
I know I am a broken record, but do you smell any ambroxan in it?
I’m not a pro at identifying notes/ingredients unfortunately. But it does not have an obnoxious synthetic chemical smell to me.
How is the Iris Dragees?
Not a lot of iris, mostly dragées. It’s very comforting and easy to wear, plus I’m a sucker for an almond note. My poor dog is back at the vet again, third time this month, she started peeing blood, so I needed comforting. :-/
Oh I hope your dog will be ok!
The vet just called, he thinks she will be fine, did a culture and sent us home with meds. But mommy is still worried. Thank you for your kind words.
Oh no, I hope she’s ok! Sending very good thoughts out for you and her. Glad that you heard back from the vet.
I’d probably like Iris Dragees from your report back. I love almond scents too. Thank you for your take on it!
She had an accident right before the blood peeing incident, she tried to jump from the couch to the coffee table and missed, slamming her belly against the table. Vet thinks she ruptured a blood vessel in her bladder. Crossing fingers it doesn’t form a clot that blocks the ureter.
Oh no! I hope she heals quickly!
Oh poor pupper! Hope she feels better soon.
“Cotton candy floral” does not sound promising to me, alas. Hope that your poor dog is feeling better soon!
Oh well, money saved then! The dog is resting now, giving her some pain meds, vet thinks she ruptured a blood vessel in the bladder when she fell earlier today.
Yesterday I wore The Body Shop’s White Musk Libertine, which I thought was a nice, pretty, and light scent for Valentine’s Day, and some idiot at work apparently thought it was too much because everytime I passed by him he’d make a big show of flapping his hands around and acting like he was suffocating or something. It was getting reeeealy annoying, and I wanted to snap at him to grow up and stop being a jerk or something like that, but there were too many people around, and that along with my natural inclination towards non-confrontation kept me from going off. He isn’t even an employee, he’s just a friend of the manager who visits once in a while. In hindsight, I should’ve said, “if you don’t like it, then leave”. Sigh. I hate jerks. But I kinda needed to vent and knew you folks of all people Get It.
I admire your self control.
What an infantile reaction. Good for you for taking the higher ground.
He sounds super-immature, GateGirl. (Maybe, like a 12 yr old boy, he has a secret crush on you & doesn’t know how to appropriately express it, so he’s teasing you?)
I wonder how he would react to a real problem? I wouldn’t want him in charge of anything!
Gah! It’s a pity your workplace doesn’t have any visitor restrictions…
Vent well-deserved! What a maroon, as Bugs Bunny would say.
SOTD = Kilian Love don’t be shy Extreme
My humongo sample arrived late last week and ummm ummm good. It is sweet caramel musky vanilla marshmallow with floral flecks. It is LDBS amped up❣️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CLUfCVwB0FW/?igshid=umoxch1gkl0o
In continue on my quest to just keep cleaning out. I have not gone to the donation place since 2 weeks ago but I am beginning to accumulate for the next run.
Enjoy your new perfume!
Thank you – I am ?.
Humongo sample lmao. Good thing you like it!
I know, right?
Glad you love your large sample. 🙂 It was instant love for me too.
As soon as you said you love it, I knew I could pass Go and ummm spend my $200+. It’s a good thing Saks had its $$s off promotion!
Ooh, so curious about this one. It’s definitely on my sample list. Do you like it more than the original? Sounds like you do!
I do like it better than the original … definitely NOT the original original but whatever Sephora had on offer.
Sounds like your latest sample acquisition was a winner! ??
It is for sure!
That sounds positively scrumptious!
Good afternoon on Monday 🙂
Apparently tomorrow we can say goodbye to the freeze-wave that was with us for 2 weeks now. I can use a break from my warmest jacket.
Wearing Dusita Moonlight in Chiangmai which maybe partially fits the picture. I’ll think of something better soon.
HA, for a quick second I thought you meant the picture of Susan B Anthony and I was confused….
I meant the cp pic
Yeah, I got it 🙂
It ultimately did not work out for me.
Oh I see. It’s okay. Our triplet found it too masculine. But for me it works ?
Happy Monday! Heading out to work in Imaginary Authors O, Unknown! which matches the weather and my short slushy drive to the office.
Yep, plus smells great.
Rooty iris!
Sycomore. For some odd reason, I’m smelling rooty iris. Does it have that? Trying to get in the groove for work – it’s a holiday, technically, but on my schedule, it really isn’t. Still, I feel less guilty for taking it a bit leisurely!
You smell wonderful!
I don’t get rooty iris from it, but I do get quite a lot of vetiver. I wonder if the rootiness is coming from that? Or your skin might just amp up the iris…
I’ve never noticed iris in Sycomore, but loads of rooty vetiver as opposed to grassy vetiver.
Missionista and Jalapeno,
you’re both right, it’s vetiver of course! What would I do without you people!
Unintentionally wearing Gain ack! I was in a rush when I dropped off my laundry at the laundromat last week, so I didn’t tell them to skip the fabric softener. Gosh, are people actually wafting this all around me and I never noticed? It’s absolutely ginormous! So now I don’t know if I’ll re-test Moonlight in Chiangmai, The Dark Knight and Tyger, Tyger today as I had planned. I’ve made a pact with myself that if I like something I’m sampling, I’m not allowed to put it into a re-test pile where it will languish for an eternity. Perhaps changing my clothes will help, although that smell seems to be everywhere …
Hope everyone is having a peaceful day…
Oh, and Robin – there’s a typo: SJP’s Stash – although Splash sounds like it would be fun!
Thank you Holly!!!
You’re wearing “Gain” – – ???
It’s pretty funny that a laundry product is a scrubber! ?
Right: 😀
I am with you, Holly. Some dryer sheets and fabric softeners are hugely projecting.
This certainly is!
Oh no! My mother always used Downy liquid softener in her laundry routine and when I had to sleep on those pillowcases it about smothered me. I detest all those sorts of scented things and always make sure I’ve got the “Free” kind of detergents and other products.
Yep, they saturated my sheets, towels and bath mat! Fortunately I have others as I’m with you on the feeling of being smothered.
Oh no, that scent is so much! My hubby bought Gain in-wash laundry scent boost awhile ago on purpose (as if Gain needed that).
He used it when he did laundry (towels and sheets); the scent coming off the sheets was waaay too much. I asked him to never use that again; it’s just suffocating!
Good to know it’s not just me who can’t stand it! I feel like I’m saturated in it!
I had a most dear and wonderful co-worker who complained about any perfume or scent in the office, but she often was a cloud of “Bounce” fabric softener. (I being a Snuggle person at that time, could really notice.)
My mom used to use Bounce! I don’t recall the smell, so I’m going to take a sniff when I have detoxed from Gain.
I can’t stand any laundry detergent smell and use unscented. It’s funny how so many perfume folks are adverse to this smell.
I use unscented stuff too. Normally I would do my own and hang out in the laundromat or the neighborhood, but that’s not happening now.
Ew, some of those laundry detergents and fabric softeners REEK! I use unscented detergent most of the time. Towels have their own, dedicated detergent. I have one Downy that I like, and use the smallest amount possible in my loads of laundry.
I really can’t fathom that this is standard practice and people are fine with it! Maybe the staff just went ham on it that day, I don’t know!
More snow here. It’s Mini Monday and I picked a mainstream – Modern Muse Nuit. I have minis of many of the “old school” Estée Lauder perfumes and vastly prefer them. Overdose of vanilla for this flanker. At least it’s a spray….
I blind bought a bottle of that from Ebay at the end of last year and am still deciding if I like it. I get quite a bit of flowers from it w/ the heliotrope and jasmine. I’d call it a floriental whereas Fragrantica classifies it as a woody oriental. Lots of reviews mention the vanilla but I get more flowers than vanilla…have to wear it again as sometimes impressions change with multiple wearings…especially when you compulsively pour over reviews before trying it yourself. Ahem. Cough. As I did. 😉
Hey, that’s a good idea for using minis, mini Mondays! I have a lot of minis too. Some of them are hard to open, so when I’m in a rush in the morning I go for something I can spray instead. So I like the idea of having a day dedicated to minis.
Trying two from 4160 Tuesdays…White Queen and Both Sides of Clouds…preferring the latter.
I prefer BSOC as well.
I love them both!
Happy Monday, NST! I am spending it with some lovely Valentine’s Day gifts – the biggest possible tub of Rose Jam shower gel and No. 5 Eau Premiere on top. Almost makes up for the fact that I am at work.
I’ve got that bottle of Rose Jam too! Nice Valentine’s Day gift 😉
It lasts and lasts.. love it!
I’m also now a fan of L’Occitane’s almond oil wash which I alternate with Rose Jam.
I had a little travel size of that almond one once! I remember liking it.
The snow storm hasn’t quite hit yet and just arrived to work. Spent my morning in Lyric and now in no 22 edt. Was thinking about vintage no 5 edt but remembered the nitro musk. Maybe tomorrow I will wear vintage no 5.
Ooh, No. 22 EDT! One of my first fragrance loves. It was the first Chanel I ever owned and bought for myself. I have a huge backup bottle, thank goodness, as I never want to be without it.
I’m in Adam Levine, which is really quite nice. Needs respraying, though, as it quickly becomes close to the skin. I need to wear this more often.
UPS delivered all our signed and notarized docs to the title company today…the ones that were supposed to arrive Thursday in advance of closing. Even though they recorded Friday as transfer date, it’s nice to get it reconfirmed.
I thought buying a new home was a big deal, but then I spoke with friends on Sunday. They’re adopting three siblings ranging in age from teenager to first grader. THAT’S a big deal.
How exciting! Congratulations on your new adventure 😉
yay for your new home! 🙂
I hope you are feeling comfy cozy.
and yay yay yay! for your friends.
Adoption is another word for love. 😀
You smell great! And congratulations!
Congratulations! And you smell great. Adam Levine for Her is what I call a bargain beauty. And yes, adopting three siblings in that age range is heroic (speaking as a mother of 3).
Adam Levine is a nice pick for winter weather. It’s cuddly.
Reposting in the correct spot:
I’m in PG Bois Blond because Sistine mentioned it the other day. I should be happy because today is a day off, but it’s gray and cold and I’m still stuck in my house. However, I truly am grateful that it is a nice warm house with plenty of food (and perfume). Maybe I’ll actually just sit and read a book for a while. I rarely get to do that.
Enjoy your day off.
“sit and read” sounds wonderful 🙂
SOTD: Amber Oud by Parfums de Nicolaï…this one always scratches that lavender itch, such a beautiful, long-lasting lavender amber
Enjoyed an egg, cheese & sausage on bagel sandwich this morn. and now just catching up on some personal emails.
3-day weekends are the best!
That one’s on my to-buy list after I drain my sample. I love it!
A little goes a long way. I’m not sure even one of her smaller sized bottles makes sense for this one. It is potent stuff but really beautiful.
So hard to resist when they have the sense to make 30mls.
Your breakfast sounded very tasty!
I foolishly referred to our beautiful summer weather over the weekend. That was asking for trouble, today is horrible and wet. I’m going to cheer myself up with Le Temps d’Une Fête.
Yes, you were asking for a reprimand from Nature there.
Wearing Ostara because I could do with Spring!
oh, Spring? yes, please!
you smell wonderful 🙂
You smell wonderful – and Ostara is a “love the bottle, love the box” scent for me, too.
You and me both, austenfan.
Ostara is an all-time fave of mine. The scent, the bottle, the box — all of it! I wore it last week when I saw the first daffodils here. You smell wonderful!
President’s Day!
1) Am partially dug out- I ran out of melter salt and had to walk the 1/2 mile to the hardware store and back, uphill, in the snow! 🙂
1a) But seriously, freezing ice came down and compacted the snow, and I nearly landed on my caboose a couple of times getting supplies. This past year I forgot to stock up on emergency supplies the way I usually do in summer, so lesson learned!
1b) Power went out and so I had a cold house for a few hours- but power – and furnace!- are back! Hot water! Soup simmering on my Star Trek stovetop! Luxury!
1c) My love to those in the SE and Texas going through this winter storm!
2) SOTD: The Body Shop Gardenia body butter after a gratefully warm shower, and a couple of spritzes of TF Noir.
Wow, what a day!! Hope you have your feet up by now.
I am enjoying a glass of wine and some yummy gourment crackers with Miyoko’s plant butter- seriously good.
I am so deeply grateful.
This seems to be a Guerlain day here, myself included. I am in Basilic Manaderine, the ultimate orange.
Oh, wonderful!
I’m in by Kilian’s Flower of Immortality today. Wearing a sample from luckyscent, but the FB is on its way from Bloomie’s. My eyes rolled back in my head when I first smelled this unbelievably feminine, delicate, and gorgeous scent. It’s definitely a skin scent, but has a decent 6 hours of longevity on me, so I went for it.
What flowers does it smell like?
Oh.. I’m probably a little slow, is it immortelle?
Lillyjo, you were right the first time – it’s not the immortelle flower, in fact. It’s a very realistic, fresh white peach blossom (not syrupy-sweet), iris, rose, blackberry, & tonka bean in a perfect blend. There’s supposedly a carrot seed note, which I can’t smell at all (and the iris is more floral, not root-y nor carrot-y). It’s ravishing, albeit very light. I can get away with wearing this to work.
SOTD is Safran Troublant.
I did an early morning grocery run today, because we were too lazy to go over the weekend. It feels good to have the fridge stocked now.
this morning I pulled eggs out of the fridge and thought how lucky it is that I didn’t have to go to the store over the weekend 🙂
You smell good!
SotD = Osmanthe Yunnan
So pretty on a Monday! I first sampled OY from a dabber and liked it. It smells softer and more floral sprayed, less tea and less leather. Swoon. 🙂 Feeling very grateful for the fabulous fragrance friend who shared this one with me.
Something fun for the eyes – pottery-making videos!
https://kottke.org/21/02/watch-two-korean-master-potters-at-work
Hope you enjoy your day, fragrant friends.
A stunning scent, but so very fleeting
Osmanthe Yunnan is a wispy little thing, but I love it so! Or perhaps I should admit that is part of the appeal. I’m a cologne girl at heart. 😉
I should re-try it — I think I have a sample somewhere — but my recollection is that it lasted about three minutes on me. Three lovely minutes, but really.
You smell wonderful. 🙂
Thanks, cazaubon! I have to say the spritzer on that bottle gives what is possibly the most delicate and luxurious mist of perfume I’ve ever experienced. Makes me want to wear it again and again and . . . 😉
Omnia today. The painting for the CP is so lovely.
Glad you like it! I take it that it is meant to convey some degree of anxiety (the text at the museum says “unsettling” and “melancholy”) but I think since we do not see her face, the viewer can interpret it as they like.
I did think it was a good pandemic painting!
Yeah.. I get worry from it. I get worry from most everything though.
I’ll have to look at a bigger version of the picture, since I don’t get anxiety or unease from it. A bit of melancholy, maybe.
Yes, perfect for uncertain times.
I’m wearing Unknown by Unknown because I sprayed from an unlabeled sample sprayer this morning. It’s a kind of funky skunky rose and I’m really wondering what on earth it is. Hmmm. We have SNOW SNOW SNOW today and it’s sticking because it is only 17 degrees outside. Coldest weather in Houston for 130 years, they’re saying on TV. Luckily I have power and water. Many friends do not. I put out extra bird seed and have been keeping the doves very very well fed all day. Right now I’m sitting here in a sweater and hat and scarf with a blanket and cat on my lap. My heat is on but can’t get things above 64 degrees. Tonight will be worse…. I’m feeling worried for the homeless people and animals out there. One of my cats always wants to go outside but even he is sticking to a bed indoors for now. Might make some gumbo tonight if the stove keeps working.
Love ‘Unknown by Unknown’. I share your worries for the homeless–its hard in winter.
We finally got a real winter storm starting about 1:00pm – and I decided to get a roast started since it was likely we’d have power at least another 5 hours. A few years ago, Duke Energy did a major clean up along the power lines in our area and even our neighborhood, and we’ve had few problems since then. So, here’s hoping! We have a flock of what I think are first year bluebirds at our suet feeder. They are so pretty. I am watching to be sure I keep it full. A giant red squirrel also has found it, and the birds are second fiddle to him.
Hope that you and your cats stay warm, and that your power stays on.
I hope you stay safe and warm!
I chose Floris Honey Oud to go on top of remnants of last night’s Anne Pliska. I’m close to thunking this decant and did thunk my Anne Pliska spray sample last night. I still have an even older small decant of Anne Pliska, but I may need to go for a bottle once that’s all gone. I wore it in the evening three or four times recently, and it works beautifully at night.
My part of Seattle ended up with about 9 or 10 inches of snow yesterday morning, which is the most we’ve had since I moved here 8 years ago. We got to watch lots of people sledding down the hill we live on over the weekend. There was even a snowboarder and a skier! But it’s been raining or sleeting on and off since yesterday afternoon, so the snow is melting at a good pace. I’m enjoying my holiday off work sitting on the couch watching GBBO while my boyfriend does some WFH beside me.
Honey Oud became cloying, so I sprayed some 5 O’Clock au Gingembre on top of it. It’s definitely helping.
Yuck, sleet!
It is STILL SNOWING here. I shoveled twice yesterday and once today, and I’ll need to do it again soon. Also still very cold, but I’ve been cuddled up under my electric blanket with the puppy so I’m good.
No scent because I haven’t showered yet, but I’ve been burning my orange flower candle from Nicolet Candle, which is lovely. I hope everyone is managing to stay safe and warm!
Where are you to be doing all that shoveling?
Chicago. We’ve had an incredible amount of snow this February, and it’s still coming down. We had hardly any before this month–it’s all come in the last two weeks!
Yay for ENIAC day! It was no problem shutting my computer down for one minute in honor of the day, as our power went out again at 2 am. At noon Mr. G decided we would decamp to a motel, for the heat and internet connection (and, in all probability, if I know Mr. G, television), and we have just finished checking in. I wasn’t actually in favor of this, but I have to admit that this is far more comfortable than home was this morning. And he packed some Jameson’s for me, and my pillow, which was very sweet.
Stay warm and safe!
I agree with Mr. G. Glad to know you’re in a warm and comfortable place!
Busy day today! But now I am waiting for the incoming rain. It might be freezing rain, and it might be just regular cold winter rain. The forecasters aren’t quite sure about that.
Both the cats are camped out on the heat vents, and couldn’t care less about the outside conditions.
SOTD = back in AG Ambre Fetiche.
Kittys and heater vents! *Cuteness to the max*
Definitely! ??
I used to live in a house with a big O’Keefe and Merritt gas stove that had a built-in griddle with a pilot light under it, and my cat slept on the griddle in the winter. It was adorable — just had to give it a good scrub before making pancakes!
Yeah, “cat hair flavored” pancakes sound like a hard pass to me, too!
As much as I hate snow, I just dread freezing rain. I hope you get regular cold rain.
Thanks lillyjo! Whatever is coming is sure taking its sweet old time showing up. Nothing happening just yet.
Like lillyjo, I dread freezing rain – it’s the worst! So dangerous. Here’s hoping you get plain old cold rain of the unfrozen sort.
If worst comes to worst, I’ll hunker down. We’ve been lucky and really haven’t had much so far. ?
Nothing in these here parts. Had to and still dealing with a work issue and I will call it if I don’t get the email I’m expecting in the next 9 minutes!
Depending on which app/website I check out, there is now either fog or drizzle in my area.
That sucks you are still waiting to hear from someone re: a work issue.
We warmed back up to hear normal temperature so it’s back to snowing!
Ended up washing down the kitchen cabinet doors after doing a few dishes this morning, I must have been really bored ?. It sure will be nice to get back to “normal” one day.
Forgot to report my sotd which is Prada Amande from a cute mini.
I hear you on the “boredom tasks”! I decided that today was the day to clean all the mirrors in the bathrooms. Doing it reminded me why I go so long in between cleaning them. Streaky mirrors look nearly as bad as dirty ones…
Hello hello! I’m in PDN Patchouli Intense, from a discovery set. Mmmm, spicy and nice.
We lost power last night about 11pm, but got it back today about 3pm. Pipes okay so far. It will be colder tonight, so we shall see. The snow is so pretty, but I honestly just want it to go away at this point! I’m a winter wimp.
Take care, all of you out there dealing with the cold weather!
No shame in being a winter wimp. I hope you continue to keep power.
Thanks lillyjo, I do too!
Hope that the power grid stays up for you! ⚡
Thanks Jalapeno, me too.
Exactly what lillyjo said! I’m a total winter wimp and I grew up with it so you’d think I would like it, but nope! Spring can’t come fast enough for me.
Hope you are back to your regular weather as soon as possible!
I hate it when people say ” you should be used to it” yeah, I am. I still hate it!
Thank you Gail, I’m usually wanting more cool weather before the heat hits, but I’m ready for spring too. ?
Well, posting so very late that I already have a glass of wine in my hand and three quarters of you are probably already asleep! Wearing some rather old Imogen Rose after a big furniture-rearranging-and-consequent-cleaning adventure. When I first got this, it was too baby-powdery for me, but that note seems to have waned in the several (ten?) years since I bought it, and now it’s just an extremely pretty, pink-smelling, rosewatery rose and I’m loving it.
Not sleeping yet! Your sotd sounds dreamy!
I’ve had so much to do lately, I keep having to post late. I’m waiting on about 6 inches of snow. I know we had a relatively easy winter until February, but I just want it to go away! I’m thinking of all my Texas and NW and NE and Midwest friends! I’m not sure how the South is doing, but hope all are well!
I wore Tobacco Vanille today, so I smelled great!????
I’ll take your 6 inches of snow over any amount of freezing rain! ?☔
Nice try, but no deal!?
Not suggesting a trade, just that neither one of us has to put up with it. Yeah, if wishes were horses…
No snow here, just tons of cold rain. We had a day off from house renovation workers, which was nice. I’m so grateful for all the work getting done, but it’s very loud, especially when I’m working. Today isn’t an automatic day off in my workplace, you have to take it as a personal day. And honestly, now that my kids aren’t young enough to need supervision, and it’s cold and rainy, and I’m working from home anyway, why bother? I’ll have some time off this week when my youngest has his wisdom teeth out. Wish us luck! SOTE is Laura Mercier’s Ambre Vanille, a very comforting bedtime-type scent.
Good luck with the wisdom teeth! My son did ok, but my daughter ended up with dry socket.
Good luck with the wisdom teeth removal!
