Saturday is World Radio Day and Sunday is Valentine’s Day.
We're listening to love songs on the radio, and holding our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your latest fragrance crush, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Wow, first. Good morning all!
Love the picture. The vinyl record makes me think of the song my husband put on a tape for me when we were dating. It was when I began to think he was falling for me. Alex Chilton’s Big Star, Back of a Car (not as outré as one might think).

Vinyl folks, what song speaks to you of love?
SoTD: Chanel No 19 EDP, a most working scent.
Of course I meant hard-working scent. Lol
I’ll be there by The Four Tops
I *love* the picture too, and it reminds me that, given what vintage elementary school valentines sell for on Ebay, why don’t card companies just make those adorable cards again??!!??
Aja by Steely Dan.
“Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.
Yes. That one brings back Memories.
yep good one
Purple Rain
yep another good one
Sara Smile by Hall and Oats
That would be Oates
Agreed. That’s a beautiful song.
Love it
Colour My World by Chicago.
Something in the Way She Moves by James Taylor.

I’m just going to comment on your SOTD – you smell fabulous and yes it is a hardworking scent❣️
Thank you hajusuuri! I’m working up to 8 sprays 🙂
“Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce. It was sung at our wedding 30 years ago.
Seconded!
“Time In a Bottle” might be good for a blog about music AND perfume, or else an essay about same.
I think “Time in a Bottle” would be a good name for a blog about vintage perfumes.
Lovesong by The Cure.?
Love the Cure. Robert Smith is under-rated as a torch singer

Oooh, lots. “The Book of Love,” by the Magnetic Fields. “When I’m Thinking About You” by the Sundays. “Anniversary Song” by Cowboy Junkies. “This Is Love” by PJ Harvey.
And +1 for “In Your Eyes”. 🙂
The Book of Love is such a great song.
Wow this blew up. So many great songs! They will be the soundtrack for next week. Thanks!

Happy Valentine’s day weekend! ❤
I started early my dose of chocolates and roses layering Dame Chocolate Man and FM Une Rose. Yummy combo! ??.
Sharing some time with my sisters and their families later this afternoon to exchange some sweets and most likely have dinner.
Expecting the unpleasant wintry mix in a couple of hours, so ready to have my second cup of coffee and out to run some quick errands.
Happy weekend, everyone! ?❣
Happy (wintery) Weekend! In a rare move, the MossyBerrys got out and finished shopping before lunch!!! We have the same iffy forecast of snow or something. Back home, well-stocked and ready to get comfy. Some books, some chocolate and fuzzy blankets are in order. But I am going to get my steps in this weekend….
I just got back and it is awfully cold outside. Wintry mixed expected this evening into tomorrow morning. After gathering with my family tonight I will not go out again this long weekend. The weather is to be horrible! I will relax, watch tv and eat my sweets! ??
Glad you get to see your sisters and the families, too!!
Enjoy your snuggly, chocolatey weekend, pl67! Glad you are able to see your loved ones today. ?
Thank you, Nancy! ?

Good morning! Off to pick up a new chair for the DH, wearing Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours.
You smell great, hope your DH enjoys his new chair ?
The roads are clear here, but everything else is still covered with half an inch of ice. I feel pretty bad for our mailman as most of the sidewalks are still awful.
My stepfather’s mother passed away last night at the age of 89. I didn’t know her very well. He and my mother married when I was in my twenties, so she wasn’t really like my grandma. I only met her once, but she was always kind to me and sent me cards on my birthdays and for Christmas. Mostly I’m feeling sad for him. He’s planning on leaving for Iowa today to be with his dad and brothers. The forecast says he should be able to get the driving in before more bad weather.
Wearing Hyde by Hiram Green. Basically, I smell like a campfire, which I happen to think is awesome and especially nice on this cold, icy day.
You smell so potent. For me Hyde was a killer, too much for me to handle.
It definitely has a strong personality!
I’m going to revisit my Hyde sample. I wasn’t quite in the mood for a campfire when I first tested it, but I could see sharing your thought that it might be just right on an icy day. Thanks for reporting.
I find it very warm and cozy, but I understand how it might be too aggressive for some.
Hyde would have been a good one for the CP.
It’s a strange one. I didn’t like it. Then I tried it again. Then I liked it. Now I’m not sure what I think. Must wear again soon!
I wasn’t sure the first wearing, either! It definitely is not the first thing you think of when you think about perfume.
You smell amazing! I blind bought Hyde (I do NOT recommend this for anyone else!) and it worked out magnificently for me.
What a brave blind buy. Glad it worked out! Hyde and Slowdive are both on my list.
I hope your stepfather has a safe drive!
Thank you, sistine.
Condolences to your stepfather, NovemberRose.
Thanks, Robin.
Safe trip and hugs to your stepfather.
Thank you. We are making sure to shower him in hugs.
My condolences to your family, and wishing a safe trip for your stepfather.
I’m in a rose mood, wearing Calligraphy Rose on my left wrist, and Gourmandises on my right. Both are jammy, but the Gourmandises seems lighter and more transparent, with the Calligraphy coming on as much more warm and spicy. All I need now is a spritz of something chocolate-y, and I’d be my own Valentine’s Day gift.
Chocolate Greedy from Montale?
I don’t have that one, but I do have some Cacao Noisette from Kyse Perfumes that might do the trick…
Your left wrist smells wonderful! CR is, I think, a hidden gem. Still around for +/- perfume math free.
MossyBerry, I really like Calligraphy Rose, too. However, the best of the bunch, in my opinion, is Calligraphy Saffron. It’s not just that it’s good in an absolute sense (which I think it is), but that it works so well with my chemistry. I smell so good when I wear it!
CS is what first drew me into the Calligraphy series. I think I “wear” Rose best, but like the other two better, go figure. If you need a decant of any of them let me know! kclberry in the land of the scape of net. Dot net, you know.
I was going to offer you the same, as I’ve got bottles of all three. 🙂 Thanks, though.
But hey, wasn’t there something the other day that you were interested in, that I was referencing? My brain is mush. Wait a sec……
I did a quick check, and there was! I was wearing Etra, and we talked about Messe di Minuit. Give me a holla (lisadarty in the land of haute mayle) if you’d like to try some – it’s really good!
Happy V-day to everyone and their loved ones, may your love bloom and show not only on this special day ❤
I’m wearing Musc Dahabii from Maison Incens. It’s a nice, powdery one with iris, leather, some balmy notes and sandalwood. Nothing groundbreaking but pleasant and effortless to wear.
Started my split of L’Ivree Bleue few days ago but there aren’t enough people interested to move on. I’ll wait for few more days before calling it quits.

You really should go into advertising. Your pictures are so appealing. I want you to get paid for them!
That’s so sweet of you! If only I had some connections that coukd help me get noticed ?
You have the people with whom you interviewed about 2 years ago, perhaps they can help.
That picture is so cozy, peaceful and inviting! ❤
The one for Purple Rain?
The one for The Acqua di Colonia.
The Purple Rain is more sensual and elegant to me! ?
I see! Thank you! Citta di Kyoto goes well together with that Chinese deco sign that I have.

Baking a Persian Love Cake
Ordering Marco Polo and French Breakfast tea on Culture Cup (no affiliation )
I don’t know what a Persian Love Cake is, but pretty sure I want one 🙂
Right!
Ohhhhhh… that is just a lovely song… great voices! Thank you for posting. ??❤️ I will be looking for more from both artists!
The name of your cake brought to mind a song I have loved since the 1980s… here is the story of how it came to be and at the end of the article, a YouTube video of the song!
https://musicaficionado.blog/2016/09/26/persian-love-by-holger-czukay/
Very cool!
Just googled Persian love cake. Oh my. But it looks delicious. Hope it came out perfectly!
Persian Love Cake always reminds me of this song:
https://youtu.be/COuYNphxdLk
The lyrics reference a beautiful girl scattering flower petals.
Adore!!! So beautiful
I’m snowed in here, Dapper’s vet appointment was rescheduled because none of the vets could make it to the clinic, city transit is not running and lots of major roadways are closed. I will go defrost the hummingbird feeder in a few minutes, but for now I’m warm and wearing Shalimar Mexique. Might go for a walk if the snow stops, but it is still coming down hard.
Wow, that’s a lot of snow! Stay safe and warm.
A nice day to stay home by the fire with a kitty or two. 🙂
I’ve heard about all the snow you’re getting, wow! I hope it warms up soon so that you’re not marooned for long.
Perfect SotD. 🙂
Good morning. I’m in my vintage Coco again. It’s cold and windy and snowy in Seattle. I think we already have 6 – 8″ of snow.
I made a delicious German chocolate cake last night a Valentine’s Day/Mr SP’s bday cake. His bday was back in January but we had a family trip that weekend and he didn’t get a cake. German chocolate is one of my least favorite cakes so I usually try to talk him out of it, but this time, I just looked for a recipe that I thought would be better and here it is (from Cafe Latte café in St. Paul MN, known for their desserts –or at least supposedly their recipe!):
https://cookbookcreate.com/recipes/32659-german-chocolate-cake
It turned out really well. In fact, I had a piece with my coffee this morning. Life is short, right?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPT7C2lF8C/
Ha, German chocolate not my favorite either, but that’s one impressive cake! Bet it was delicious, too–imagine the mr. was pleased!
We’re both pretty happy about it. 😀
I love German Chocolate cake, you can send the leftovers to me 🙂
Same here. I have been in love with that frosting since I was a child, and I’ve never gotten over it.
You smell fabulous. Funny story on how I first smell vintage Coco: I ordered a mini of Royal Secret and the seller (a long-time Ebayer who has lots of vintage perfumes) sent me a half-full 30ml Coco in error, that must have had a lot of residue around the spayer. When I unwrapped the box, I was greeted with a cloud of fabulous. I was so tempted to try it, and I still remember that fabulous smell, but I felt honor bound not to touch it. She made all good but often I have wished she’d said, oh just keep it 😀
Thanks. I actually just have two large samples of vintage Coco that a kind swapper sent me once. I’ve been wearing it regularly this winter. LOVE the drydown–so gorgeous. My new hunt will be vintage fragrances at garage sales when we do that again!
Yes; just last year, I finally nabbed a few vintage Coco sample viles and ah, that drydown….desert island scent for sure!
Mmmmm wow that looks delicious and beautiful!
I’ve had two small pieces. Carrots and celery for lunch, anyone?
?I’ve definitely had those days 🙂 I’ve found roasted broccoli does a good job of filling the role of “healthy but still tasty”!
And I have some broccoli! Perfect!
That’s how I feel about roasted broccoli!
Wow! You smell wonderful, just the thing to go with such an impressive cake! ?
I love German chocolate cake, and it seems I’m in the minority, since it seems that if I have a hankering for it, I have to make it for myself, lol! Thanks for posting the recipe and the pic – looks delicious.
You smell fab, too. There is nothing else like vintage Coco.
German chocolate is one of my least favorite cakes as well. Regular chocolate cake is my very favorite, but I simply do not like coconut.
I love German chocolate cake and I’m the only one in my family who does so I salute you for your sacrifice! I’m sure your husband really appreciates it!!
As a German this recipe is completely unknown here….
Valentine’s Day, an excuse to wear rose perfumes all weekend. Not that I needed one!
Starting with Memo African Rose. Swoon worthy!
How does African Rose compare to African Leather?
It’s got the same prominent saffron-leathery notes but instead of the spicy richness (cardamom-cumin) it’s a jammy rose that shifts into a little powdery as it dries down. AF is a bomb of a scent on me, 2 sprays gasses out the whole house – AR is softer in comparison but hardly a skin scent.
If you’re a cumin hater, go for the rose over the leather. It’s in both per fragrantica but I can’t detect it in African Rose. I’ve been loving them both.
Thanks for sharing. African Rose sounds lovely although its price is twice as much as African Leather costs. I wonder why.
That I can not explain. Pretty sure it’s not LE. At that price I can let it go when I finish this sample.
Testing some of the Anna Zworykina fragrances: so far I tried My Vanilla(a very smoky vanilla), Cuir Russe (I am not a fan of leather but this one is a love for me – try leather with a nice floral dry down), coffee and chocolate (like the overall effect but have time picking up coffee notes. Chocolate comes is more a boozy chocolate which is just nice for me) and Black Gardenia (leathery dark floral). Also tried Shiny Amber – nice summer amber but a bit too citrusy/grapefruity for me and Winter Light (nice but a no). Quite impressed with Anna’s skill especially when it comes to leather notes. Would to hear other’s experiences with her work!!
I’ve never heard of the line but you’ve made me curious,
She is on Etsy. Samples are pricey and it is a long shipping timeframes from Russia. I think you will like My Vanilla and Coffee and Chocolate and you might enjoy Cuir de Russe. Luca Turin was impressed with her work.
Oooh I love when people post reviews! Haven’t heard of this line but very intrigued now! Thank you for the heads up.
Happy Saturday and long weekend for those with Monday off.
Slept for 12 hours, then lazily had coffee and read New York Times in bathrobe with lovely leftover Rose 31.
No where to be go or do today
Yippeeeeeeee
Post shower more Rose 31 and clean house from top to bottom
That’s a gooooood day, apsara! A thorough housecleaning is in my immediate plans, too!
I loathe cleaning the house, aspara! You are a better person than I. Can’t wait for the once-a-month luxury of the lady who does the heavy work – shower doors, floors and so on. She is paid quite well for her efforts. I keep up with the rest but it makes me so annoyed. I actually play angry music to clean! LoFidelity All Stars her I come.
Aha, maybe that would help me — angry cleaning music!
Commando at present. No new snow here today; we have brilliant sunshine — a rarity in a Finger Lakes winter — and it is COLD. (Currently feels like 10 F.) Last night’s bonfire was so much fun — we stayed for three hours, buoyed by homemade chili, friends we hadn’t seen in ages, and yes, a bit of whiskey. It got down to about 7F but there was no wind and we were well layered up! Even post-shower I can smell a little woodsmoke today.
Other weekend treats are a video chat this evening with our daughter who lives on the other side of the planet AND takeout dinner tomorrow from a local restaurant. We do not do much for Valentine’s Day but the restaurant’s prix fixe* special was too tempting to pass up.
*Took FOUR tries to convince autocorrect to let that phrase stay as written.
Sunny frigid days are the best! Good on you for supporting your local restaurant.
I’m glad your bonfire was a blast!! What a great weekend for you.
It’s 10°F in my neck of the woods too and I salute your courage and am glad you had a blast venturing outdoors! I have left my apartment only when absolutely necessary because I’m a chicken.
Saturday! Well yesterday’s plan of vetting my Smell Bent’s didn’t come off so looks like that’ll be today’s plan.
The sun is coming out! Perhaps I’ll get in a walk later. In the meantime, continuing my slow progress on cleaning out every cabinet in the laundry room / pantry. The room currently looks like a junk heap thanks to the mess I’m making plus the mess DH is making working on an electrical project. Yikes.
Happy almost-Valentine’s-Day everyone!
My theory is when everything looks like a junk heap, you are about to have a breakthrough to the world of orderliness!
Heh. It’s the exploding cabinet syndrome. It’s always kindof astonishing how much *stuff* is hiding in each cabinet.
I hope that’s true 🙂
I hope you’re right but so far, eh ?.
It always gets messier before it gets better!
Pixel’s FREEEEBIES! Every week I think I won’t have anything to give away this weekend, and then every week I find something else that needs a new home.
1. Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose, 30 ml spray, 99% full
2. Elizabeth and James Nirvana French Grey, 30 ml spray, 99% full
US only. Contact me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of gee-mayle.
Wow! Pixel, you are really cleaning house. You must have had quite the perfume hoard to start with.
It’s very generous not just to offer the freebies, but to give your time to package and post them.
Yes – NST folks are the best.
I don’t seem to be making much of a dent in the hoard, though.
Now somebody please claim these 🙂
Well…in honor of Valentine Roses, dibs on No. 1. Emailing you now….
Still on my Iris Cendre sample bender, and gearing myself up for yet another round of snow removal this afternoon. It’s only about 11 degrees and plunging to -6 overnight. Cannot wait for February to be over!
Me too! I’m so tired of shoveling.
Same! So sick of this cold.
I wish the snow could be funnelled to California! We have had almost no winter here and I fear that will mean another dry, fire-filled summer. We need some snow/rain.
I’m wearing a sampler of Galivant Brooklyn. Nice, but (at least in winter) very close to the skin.
The NY Times website has a bunch of Valentine’s related stories.
1. A certain species of cockroaches settle down for a monogamous life in a log home, by a literally clipping each others wings, engaging in a ritual of taking turns eating the other’s wings off. That’s commitment.
2.Happy news from the Tessica Brown, a plastic surgeon with a talent for chemistry developed a formula and scalp massage technique to remove the Gorilla Glue from her hair Ms. Brown clarified that she never intended to sue, and again warned others who might be primping for a special event that it is better to just wear a hat if you run out of hair gel.
3. Elementary School Kids are now able to distribute to their class mates those stale candy hearts that are a staple of grade school valentine day parties. Although the NECCO company shut down, another firm bought the rights to those candy hearts and has even created new sayings so the little hearts are once again available this year.
Oh wait, the school kids are not actually in school. I guess they can hold up the little hearts to each other over zoom.
Whaaat??? NECCO shut down??? Say it ain’t so!
Per the Wall Street Journal “The maker of Necco Wafers, Clark Bars, Sweethearts and other vintage candies is shutting down abruptly, weeks after the billionaire who bought it out of bankruptcy, C. Dean Metropoulos, complained he wasn’t clued in about sanitation issues and refused to pay the final $1 million.”
Another company, Spangler brought the candy heart rights began to make the hearts sometime in 2020.
Thanks for the report. Will check it out. Too bad; not that those hearts and wafers were so very good, but there was nothing like them……
It was always fun to pick the exact roll of wafers that had the most colors I liked best. Kinda neurotic, I know. ?
I happen to love Necco wafers, although I haven’t had any in ages. I hope somebody rescues them.
You can currently buy them on the Vermont Country Store website. Don’t know if it’s a “while supplies last” situation or what.
They can also save them, let them age like fruitcake, then give them away!
Jumped on the rose bandwagon…wasn’t even thinking of Valentine’s Day. It was more about mixing some rose oil with my after-shower lotion and following that with Ta’if.
Taking it easy today. We’ve had a bit of a scramble the past week. When I mentioned we went on vacation to Door County last summer/fall, it was to explore the purchase of a home. We closed yesterday. It was new construction on a duplex condo…next door neighbor and seller is my husband’s best high school friend. Most people move to warmer climes as they age…we are doing the opposite. ??. It will be extremely hard to leave NYC. Especially for my husband…this city runs so deep in his blood. I’ll be sending him on visits multiple times a year. So, now the packing begins for a move, hopefully in late March. And it means my days of easy sniffing access are over. ?. But, we will be near the water and close to downtown.
Congratulations on buying a new home and here’s hoping for a smooth transition! You smell great in Ta’if, of course ?
Wow, that’s so exciting!! Congratulations on closing.
Very exciting – hope your move goes quickly!
How wonderful! Congratulations to you!
You really are doing the opposite! Congrats on the new place.
Congratulations and all the best for your move!
That sounds pretty awesome to me. Ready to get out of the city life.
Congratulations, hope the move goes well.
Also – wanted to ask which town you will be in? (If you don’t mind saying.) We’ve been interested in that area as well.
Egg Harbor. The town is smaller than my NYC apartment building. We are a short walk to the market, restaurants and library. Our only view is woods, but it’s a fairly short walk to the water. (My husband lived in EH as a kid.)
Ohhhh, that really sounds lovely. I grew up in a small town and want to retire in one as well. I’ll let you know if we end up there! 😉
Absolutely. You could always come visit to check it out!
Oh definitely. My husband grew up in Chicago but is a huge Green Bay fan. Pretty sure he will like it. 🙂
Congratulations on the new place!
Holy cow! Congratulations!! That all sounds perfect to me, I hope you love it! We used to be able to walk to Lake Michigan when we lived in whitefish bay, I loved walking along the shore. The kids used to collect tons of “sea glass.”
Maybe someday you’ll make a trip to Madison?!?
Thanks! We very much plan to.
Congratulations! Will you be moving furniture or starting new?
Movers. We have some things we must move, and some things we wIll get rid of.
Congrats, LizzieB! It will be a big change, but as you say, close to the water! Yay! I grew up on the other side of the lake and usually go back to visit family every 2-3 years. I was hoping for this summer, but we may have to make it 2022.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!!! What a wonderful change it will be and I’m sure visits to NYC will be a perfect balance.
That’s so exciting!
Congratulations and yay to new construction!
Congratulations! That’s so exciting to have a new adventure ahead of you.
Sounds lovely — it’s a nice part of the world, and nice to get out of the craziness. We’ve been thinking about trying to get at least a second place out of the city; spending this weekend exploring one potential area we’ve been thinking about. Good luck with the move!
Good luck with the move, LizzieB. It sounds perfect to me.
Congratulations and best of luck with your move LizzieB. Will you be making an occasional trip back to NYC?
Happy Saturday!
It’s rainy here but no ice, snow or frigid temperatures like many of you are experiencing at the moment.
It’s been a busy day in the kitchen for me. I made meatloaf, a big pot of matzo ball soup and chocolate chip cookies (with some dried sour cherries and candied orange peel thrown in) and I’m ready to relax with NST and a book.
I started the day in Anima Dulcis and later switched to Vanille Havane (Les Indemodables).
Be well all!
Mmm, all of that sounds so yummy, including the perfumes!
Are you / did you get a FB of Vanille Havane?
I did not. I’m still using my sample. I like it but not enough for a full bottle (yet; I may change my mind). I did end up getting decants of Iris Perle, Chypre Azural and Musc des Sables.
Have you tried these? What do you think?
Not yet … slow tester here
The cookies sound delicious!! Would you mind sharing a recipe
Clarissa, here is the recipe:
https://www.parsleysagesweet.com/easyrecipe-print/18-0/
These cookies are supposed to be a copycat of the Levain Bakery (in NYC) ones. I don’t think they are quite the same but they’re pretty good nonetheless. I use Ghirardelli (or Guittard) bittersweet chocolate chips and no nuts but usually add candied orange peel for something extra. I also form the dough into balls and freeze all of them, taking one or two out to bake as needed.
My husband is getting Anima Dulcis for Valentine’s. I am hoping to sneak sprays!
You absolutely should! Plus, it’s a big bottle, there should be enough for both of you ?
No scent of the day yet; maybe that pre-SotD spritz of Queen Latifah. A perfumed story: I was just blathering on about Plato’s Closet as a source of discounted perfumes at NST a few days ago. Our town has one next to the Kroger, so I can stop in every week. Today, they had a Bee Bottle; but it looked funny. The label was very plain, only said Guerlain. Took a chance and when I got home did the research and it turned out, almost certainly, to be someone’s customizable choice: https://www.happi.com/contents/view_breaking-news/2018-06-05/guerlain-showcases-custom-bottles/ It looks like the yellow one in the front, and the bottom sticker says it contains Aqua Allegoria Pera Granita edt. Who knew?!?
Great find!
Wow! My thrifting finds are never that good!
What a great find!
Note to self to check out Plato’s Closet some time.
It’s another cold and rainy day – we’re hovering at the border between “really cold rain” and “freezing rain”. I’m having a lazy day doing laundry and going through my makeup collection – I am soooo bad at throwing out makeup that is old. But I never finish any, and it seems so wasteful just to toss it. I guess I need to try to find just a few products that I like and stuck with them. Lip products are the worst, because I never realize how many I have when they’re scattered between purses. I gathered them all and was horrified to realize that I had 3 different lipsticks that I’ve unintentionally purchased more than one tube of. ?♀️
My SOTD is Bois Blond by Parfumerie Generale. I’ve been reading all of your rose choices and thought “I should wear a rose perfume”, but roses and I have a complicated relationship so I chose Bois Blond instead.
I sometimes keep older makeup because: 1. I am the only one who’s used it, and 2. I am very conscientious when I use make up. I would not recommend anyone else keep old makeup, but….
If it hasn’t hurt you yet…
I use make-up that’s years old. I’m careful not to end up with old moisturiser and foundation and such, but I still use lipsticks that are at least 10 years old, and I’ve got eyeshadows that I bought over 30 years ago – they’re still fine, and I seem to be too 🙂
Lol
I’m kind of like you, Gaynor. If it’s a pressed powder, eyeshadow or blush, I keep it forever. It’s basically inert. Now, I’ve had lipsticks and gloss go bad, so I go through that stash every so often.
That’s very reassuring!
Yeah I definitely have some some makeup that is well over a decade old… oops?
The liquid formulas definitely don’t hold out very well but the pencils, lipsticks and powders seem to do fine. Some shades I really just don’t reach for that often!
I feel much better!
You smell amazing. I think we are the two primary PG Bois Blond fans here!
It’s just soooo good!
I definitely keep eyeshadow and blush and powder for as long as it takes to use them up. I pulled out some eyeshadow that’s probably 15 years old the other day; I’ve been using it over the years, and it’s nearly gone. The cases go rubbery-sticky before the powder goes bad (if it ever does).
Lipstick I keep until it gets that old lipstick smell. I’m sure it’s still good, but I just can’t take the smell. Also it seems more sticky and not creamy over time.
I feel a lot better now – I really didn’t want to throw out lightly used makeup. From now on I’ll just be a lot more mindful about what I’m purchasing!
I have some eyeshadows and blush that are easily 15 or 20 years old and still look fine.
Powder product last nearly forever, if you don’t use them with your fingers. Lipstick is okay as long as it smells normal and not rancid. But I don’t use mascara after 6 months.
Clarissa freebies. I will ship to the US only. I am asking you to cover the shipping charges. I can be reached at marianna_r in the world of yahooooo

Resting on the couch after some intense Sunday morning cleaning. I’m always surprised at how much dirt gets transferred to me! I haven’t decided yet on a morning perfume, but something reasonably light, as we’re joining friends for a yum char lunch.
Meanwhile, I’ve been exploring my Luckyscent samples. Eris’s Green Spell is rather nice and lasts longer than I first thought, so it goes on the list of possible future purchases.
Amouage’s Crimson Rocks is OK, but only OK, lots of nice spice, but it lacks the richness and depth I expected.
A real find is Lost in Heaven from Francesca Bianchi, and it’s gone straight to the top of the purchase list. It makes me think of Salome and Rubj, and other such things that I love. It’s lighter than Salome, which is a positive, Salome can be too much of a good thing and is only suitable for home.
That lunch sounds most excellent – one of my best lunches ever was at a dim sum in San Francisco. I love any restaurant with a choice of many treaty bits.
I’m really curious about the Francesca Bianchi line. Anything that reminds you of Salome sounds good to me.
Ooh… Making a note of Lost in Heaven! Public friendly Salome sounds right up my alley! Thank you for the tip!
Hearing a lot of love for Francesca Bianchi. That was one of the ones I wanted to try! Soon…
I can’t remember if I tried Lost in Heaven, my original sample kit was five scents I think. Need to try it as I love both Salome and Rubj.
We are home, watching the impeachment trial while my husband is smoking a huge pork shoulder roast in the outside smoker with the rotisserie insert. At 20F, in lake effect snow, you have to be very determined to have your pulled pork to make this happen. I’m sipping bloody marys inside, offering words of encouragement. Because of the cold and other circumstances, I’ve decided to enjoy my own bonfire with Memoirs of a Trespasser and thank goodness it’s the perfect choice. Enjoy your weekend everyone!
*Chortle*
Ah, a statement perfume.
♥️??
You smell great, and relevant.
Chamade parfum de toilette today, meal will be Mediterranean pizza.
You smell wonderful; we’re have pizza day, too!
Thank you very much, hope you enjoyed the pizza.
Tried to watch that Nose Documentary on Prime. Listed as not available yet.
I think not til the 22nd.
Snowed in in Seattle and wearing a thunked sample of Iris Perle – another lovely iris that doesn’t last long enough to justify a bottle purchase.
While I was experiencing flu like symptoms after my 2nd vaccine (and feeling extremely grateful!) I watched the Frederic Malle interview with the perfumers who created his best selling fragrances for his 20th anniversary. Anne Flipo was also included and I’m looking forward to her new fragrance.
It was interesting to hear these greats talking about working with Malle, the future of perfume, the industry, etc. It was as interesting to watch the dynamics between them (e.g. Pierre Bourdon is quite a talker and I wished I could have read Dominique Ropion’s mind as he stayed relatively quiet throughout).
Are you feeling better now??
Yes, thank you. I haven’t had the flu for years so it was strange to feel so achy.
allo, how long did you feel sick? Trying to convince my husband he should plan to take the following day off when he has his 2nd shot.
My husband had joint aches for about 24 hrs after his second shot. Not too bad, he said.
Definitely tell him to take the next day off. I got my shot at 6pm and didn’t start to feel really achy until mid to late afternoon the next day and it lasted into the night.
I also think it might be a good idea to take the day off if possible.
I worked the day after my first Moderna vaccine and my arm was sore to the point I could barely lift it. I scheduled the second one on a Friday and I’m glad I did because I had mild joint pain/fatigue for about 24 hours.
On the other hand my husband (who got Pfizer) had nothing but a vague soreness at the injection site both times and went to work as scheduled.
I’d tell him to plan to take the day off just in case. In my office, some people had almost no symptoms after the second shot and some were sick enough (just for a day) with fever and body aches that they had to call in sick. My husband had no symptoms his second day. I had a mildly sore arm and felt tired. But I also front-loaded with Tylenol and took Advil midday because rescheduling a day of patients is pretty difficult.
I had my second Pfizer shot at 7am, worked my whole shift but by 9pm I had a fever with chills and body aches that kept me up all night. I was better by noon the next day but really wiped out from the rough night. Yay for a robust immune response!
Wow, thanks so much for all the great information!! And so glad to see so many people vaccinated already. Can’t wait til I am eligible to join you.
Mr. G and I woke at about 4 a.m. to a power failure, 25 degrees and snowing outside, and rapidly falling temperatures in the house. We lit the fireplace and put big pots of water on the stove (gas, thankfully) to add a tiny bit more warmth to the kitchen. Tried to go back to sleep, but neither of us could so we got the sleeping bags out, made some cocoa and bundled up on the couch in front of the fire. Our local utility’s original estimate of repair time was early on the 15th (yes, a day and a half away), but somehow someone figured something out because the power came back on just after lunchtime. It’s still pretty chilly in here, but I have blankets and tea and, all in all, am happy.
All that to explain why I’m still commando, perfume-wise – not ready to expose any skin yet. ?
Brrrr! Have not had that happen in a while, but glad for your fireplace!
Us too!
Yikes! I’m glad your power is back on!
Yes! I’m trying not to jinx it – really hoping it holds, now that it’s back. ?
Yay, I’m so glad you made it through! Celebrate with your warmest scent after you get heat again.
Hi Ann! I finally got warmed up enough to push a sleeve off a wrist and put on a little bit of (what else?) Paracelsus. I seem to be in a very nicely scented rut lately. ?
Yay for heat! I’ve been away too long and will have to check out Paracelsus. Happy Valentines Day! ❤️
Yikes! We had an outage a couple of days ago at about 5:45 AM. It only lasted about 2 1/2 hours, but the worst thing was that when I tried to report it to the automated voice system, the robot voice informed me that the repairs had already been completed. First–if the repairs are already completed, why is the entire street dark, with no lights at all, including the streetlights? Second–how on earth could they have sent a crew to repair the problem in five minutes? Third–why oh why can I not speak to an actual human being instead of the irritating voice system. There was no opportunity to leave a message or tell it that the repairs were NOT completed and that it was not only my house that was affected, but at least a couple hundred others as well. I guess they finally figured it out, because the power cam back on a little after 8:00.
That’s so unsettling, considering the weather that’s headed our way. ?
Yeah … automation is great, right up until it isn’t. I’m just happy that the original estimate the robot voice gave us turned out to be wildly off – another 36 hours of that bone-chill would have been horrible.
This is definitely NOT the time for an extended power outage.
Joining the freebie-train if anyone’s still here: US please, email augustinehiver at gee-mail

2. Scentbox decant bundle, 4-8 ml range. Hermes Jour d’Hermes, Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois and Annick Goutal Eau D’Hadrien. Come with twist-up travel cases

oh my god I have no idea why that’s a reply, SheriG. Oops!
No worries! 🙂
Can I claim dibs on #3?
Wow, glad to hear your outage wasn’t as long as you expected! Fingers crossed that it remains on. Hope you’re warmed up by now!
Glad you’re warm again! This is why I will never have an all-electric house without at least a gas stove and a wood stove/fireplace. When we bought our condo in Montreal which was all electric I bought a propane generator we could set up on the balcony just in case!
It sounds like you have fallen hard for Paracelsus. Nice to be in a perfumed groove that feels comfy and reassuring!
Showered with Vitabath Spring Green gel and used the matching lotion for moisturizer today; I may have to add a spray or 2 of Wrappings.
Inspired by Tannina, there’s a pot of lentil soup cooking on the stove. It seems to be warming up outside a bit; we should hopefully be above 0 early next week.
I love that shower gel. It reminds me of my childhood, my mom always had a bottle in the shower. Usually still does.☺️
I’m in Maya Njie Vanilj. I think we made it to 2 degrees today. I have my warmest wool sweater on (again) and my best fudgy brownies in the oven. This is the longest stretch of single digit temps my state has had since 1963 and I’m more than ready for it to be over. At least the sun and blue sky peeked out for awhile this afternoon.
Inspired by pl67 and pixel and clarissa, I have a dozenish samples looking to be rehomed. Please call dibs here and you can email me p k wisdom(one word) in the land of yahoooo.
How do you like Vanilj?
I love it! It reminds me of Eau Duelle with the note of cardamom, but I no longer have my decant of that one to do a side by side. I’m tempted by the travel spray.
I ended up buying a travel spray-sized discovery set because I did not pay attention and thought the regular discovery set was sold out. No regrets though as they are all very well done.
When I feel bad about my temperature, I just look at yours. I’ve been getting into the teens, because of the lake. Below zero wind chill in the morning. It looks like next Sunday the temps will start getting back to normal.
I’m wearing many sprays of Cacao Azteque by Perris Monte Carlo from my recent sample batch I bought through Indigo. This one was just a sort of “Why not?” addition to the mainly floral-citrus things I was most interested in. Well, it may well be a winner, and is certainly comforting on a cold gray day. I don’t get a lot of cacao, but it’s got lots of spice, pepper out the wazoo, and surprising florals. I might like more chocolate, but what there is here is awfully nice. Woke up at 6 a.m. to get ready for a 3-hour Zoom conference that was at an early EARLY hour to accommodate international participants. It was good but basically ruined my day–I’m just not a morning person. I cooked (ha ha, “cooked” = microwaved) some frozen Korean dumplings for lunch and plan to do a chicken stir fry with asparagus, etc., for dinner in awhile. Houston might get temps on Monday from 5 to 9 degrees which is almost unheard of–the lowest temp ever recorded here was 5. Many people are excited about snow. I wouldn’t mind, but don’t want my pipes to burst or to lose power due to ice on the lines. I’ve put out extra bird seed and the doves have been cramming like crazy, so I think they know something. Stay warm, all of you fellow people in the Northern Hemisphere!
Stay warm!
Sometimes when I microwave dumplings, I coat them with a very thin layer of sesame oil, and then try to find some fancy vinegar to sprinkle on the cooked ones.
Those doves sound so adorable. I had to quite putting out seeds and use only suet because we have so many deer in our area. I miss the doves!
Wow, that’s so cold for Houston! Stay warm and safe.
Hi everyone! It finally stopped snowing this afternoon; I already shoveled once this morning but should probably do it again so it doesn’t get trampled and bumpy and then icy. Le sigh.
I’m trying a new-to-me sample: SL L’Eau de Paille. It reminds me of an old-school men’s cologne. If it actually smelled more like straw I’d be more into it.
I have a little sample of it, and I loved it. But it is not popular with the SL fans, it seems.
Interesting! It does seem pretty un-Serge-like so maybe that’s why.
Wearing Shalimar edt from an older bottle. Times like this, I wonder why in the world I wear anything else. ❤️
You smell wonderful – the older Shalimar edt may be my favorite Shalimar.
Well, honestly should have said the new Souffle Intense is quite close to being the favorite.
SOTD = Masque Milano Madeleine
… from the Le Donne di Masque line. It’s a not too sweet gourmand and I will describe it as a sweet and spicy vanilla chestnut cream perfume. There’s a little bit of coffee as well. Lucas did a write-up. It’s not a favorite – money saved.

So I have no dial-tone again! This usually happens when there’s inclement weather and I am now convinced that a fix somewhere usually causes something to go awry with my line. The earliest appointment I could get is for Wednesday 2/17 from 8AM to 9PM – say what??? I ended up finding my way to speak to an agent and she was able to move it up to 2/16 from 3PM to 7PM… not really that much better. I am hoping that my wireless somehow continues to work because I am not interested in using my data plan all day!
Hunkering down as ice crystals were falling earlier at 3:30ish when I got home from an earlier errands run.
Good luck with the phone line!
And scent-wise, money saved is always good! ? I’ve never really tried a fragrance with chestnut note that I loved.
Thanks. The good news is that somehow my wireless is still working. I wish I could capture the “unused” wireless and save it for a rainy day!
As to chestnuts, have you tried L’AP Noir Exquise?
I have not tried Noir Exquise. It’s on my radar since I’m always interested in a Duchaufour creation, but it hasn’t crossed my path yet. I’m trying my best to resist blind buys, so a “large sample” is off the table for now. ?
Wow, that’s a very long wait. I hope it’s fixed sooner. Stay safe from the ice!
It’s pretty typical and then magically, I get a text saying it’s fixed and to check for dial tone.
As to the ice, other than for the ice crystals falling, nothing more has come down. We are in more more snow though on Tuesday. And it’s actually a warm 36F!
I think Madeleine sounds great—it’s in my LS sample shopping cart. What part made it not a favorite?
Good luck with your phone and stay warm and safe!
There’s a sticky smell up top that smelled just overly sweet (and I love sweet) and I would love more vanilla in it.
Hmmm. Sometimes perfumes with nut notes do that to me, too. Like Carthusia Terra Mia. It sounded right up my alley, but nope. I think it was the sweet hazelnut note.
It was love at first sniff for me with Madeleine, I guess I love sweet chestnut as I love Noir Exquis as well.
You and your sweet tooth ??.
Sampling two from a lovely NSTer: The Waft from the Loft Parfum by 4160 Tuesdays and Lotus Rising by April Aromatics.
The Waft from the Loft notes are church garden, smoothed antique woods, incense infused old stone, red wine.
Lotus Rising notes are Vintage Pink Lotus, Vintage lue Lotus, Champaca, Frangipani, Jasmine, Rose, Iris, Bontanical Musk Accord.
Both very interesting and well done.
I’ve been curious about Waft from the Loft. Such a fun collaboration!
All good ?. How’s the kitty with issues?
Miss Greta had the one episode and I withheld wet food for a day but continued w/ dry. A monster am I. 😉 (They go crazy for wet food.) Stools seem ok but still on soft side. I shall call and ask the vet. Seems happy and ok otherwise. She is such a sweet little thing.?♥️ Thanks for asking…hopefully not TMI.
Not TMI. Glad she is better!
SotD is Sandalwood Sacré from Le Jardin Retrouvé which is really lovely and grounding. I needed some calm and clarity today.
I got a job offer on Thursday morning!… Yay! With a salary offer that was at least 30% lower than the absolute minimum I would consider acceptable. Ouf. While I would be thrilled to get back to performing, there are limits.
Had a lovely chat with the company manager Thursday afternoon where I outlined my base pay expectations (and have some confirmation from others in the industry that those are reasonable) but am still waiting to hear back at this point.
In the meantime, KitKats and herbal tea and perfume are keeping me reasonably calm.
Fingers crossed that the company can meet your expectations!
Congrats on the job offer, and fingers crossed that the salary can be worked out!!
Congrats on the offer and hope they will raise the amount!
Oh best of luck with that. I hope it can work out.
Yay on the job offer! Is this for a full time position or for a / series of performances? Would you accept that and a percent of ticket sales? After all, they are taking a chance in the performance drawing the crowds.
Best of luck to you, teebear! We are alike in having at least three of the same things to help keep us reasonably calm. ?
Hope it works out!
I hope they come to their senses! I was in a similar position when I was applying after a year out of the workforce — got an offer that I wanted to take, but they were offering 20% less than I’d made in the same job at a similar company 10 years before. Negotiation worked — they came up to at least meet that salary.
I hope your negotiations go well and the tea, perfume and KitKats keep you grounded. Good luck!
Yay for salary negotiation and knowing one’s worth!
Good for you on not taking the lowball offer, hoping they can rise to meet your worth!
Yay for a job offer, but boo hiss for it being a lowball!

I would love #2 please, if still available. I will email you. Thanks.
2 + 3 are spoken for 🙂
I would be interested in the Imaginary Authors samples.
Sorry, group 3 is claimed!
Happy late Saturday to all!
The lunar new year is off to a good start for me, my parents finally got their vaccines today (first dose). It’s been hard for them to get appointments, so I’m thrilled and relieved. And they’ve scheduled their second dose for next month.
I’ve been sampling scents today. I spritz on two that, in my mind, reminded me of one another: MFK’s Gentle Fluidity Gold and Essential’s Divine Vanille. Side by side, they aren’t anywhere near dupes, but sort of have a similar vibe. The Gentle Fluidity is louder and more tenacious but it definitely has that synthetic MFK sweet woody note. I think I prefer the Divine Vanille, and happy to have the travel spray size but would probably never get something bigger.
Yay! Congrats to your parents!
Yay for your parents’ vaccinations!
Hooray for your parents’ vaccination! My neighbor across the street has an appointment at a Rite-Aid on Tuesday.
Whoo hoo for your parents getting their first vaccinations!
Sotd was Cafe Tuberosa. Still cold and snowy here. I received my travel spray of Black Orchid Parfum. It had leaked some. I took it back to the store but couldn’t find anything else to exchange it for. ( I didn’t want to reorder, because I realized I liked the edp better, and I already have a few samples) I tried the new La Vie Belle, the solar one. It was nice enough, but something I would get with a good discount someday. Anyway, I ended up getting my daughter some skin care. Wishing everyone an early spring!????
Glad you found something to exchange for, Lillyjo! How would you characterise the difference between the edp and Parfum? I think I may have liked the Parfum more but would need to do a side by side. On the other hand, Iv discovered a lot of Tom Fords make my eyes water so…
I wish I could elaborate but I’m not sure how to describe the difference. They do smell pretty much the same, but I would say the Parfum is slightly quieter. Many people have said it’s more smooth smelling, I can’t say I detected that. The edp lasted hours longer on me during a side by side.
Thanks so much for your impression! The descriptors we have for scent – like ‘smooth’ are apt to be so very subjective. I am curious to try them both again now!
You smelled (smelt?) great! Tuberose sits uneasily on my skin but I adore that one on others!!!
SotD = Le Lion
This one smells wonderful, though I would rather smell it on someone else, or as an ambient scent in a room. It gets a little tiring for my nose. Not surprising for something named after the king of the jungle.
A funny scent thing happened to me. The other day I kept smelling Big Red and Bubble Yum chewing gums, favorites from my youth. So strange! Where was it coming from? Finally, I realized my sweater smelled of the remnants from Ambre Narguile and Songes. Delicious. 🙂
I love mysterious drydowns!
Isn’t it fun? Mystery drydown is like a little suprise you planned for yourself when you were’nt looking. 😀
Sweater mélange is wonderful. 🙂
sweater mélange! agree, it’s yummy.
Sweater mélange sounds like a wonderful name for an artsy indie perfume. Think of all the flankers. 😀
❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day, NSTers! ❤️ I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
I’m in Geisha Noire, and am about to get the pupper out for a quick walk before the rain starts. This is so snuggly and easy to wear.
I’ll be making potato leek soup sometime today or tomorrow, and just realized I have to cut some chives and parsley from the herb bed very soon!!
I love potato leek soup – have some in the freezer right now! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Oh, you’re all set! I was going through my freezer last night, and we will be fine too.
You smell wonderful – I’ve only tested Geisha Noire, but Dear Sister has a bottle, and I plan to snitch a decant at our next visit! I will take a cup of your soup, please. 😀
Well, come on over for a cup, but bring a snow shovel if you have one! We’re getting up to 8 inches tonight. ❄️ ⛄️
Is your sister a perfumista? I’ve tried to lead my two sisters down the rabbit hole so we can share fumes, but they won’t go.
Good question! Not quite, but she recently did her first LuckyScent order, and she *found LuckyScent on her own* which I think shows promise. Our Mother was quite fond of perfume and used to wear it to church and special occasions. Sis used to wear Diorissimo regularly, and we bonded over Queen Latifah, which she always wears now and smells wonderful in. Wow! 8″! We are on the bubble; maybe will get that and maybe a dusting!?
SOTD: Sur Les Toits. This works really well in cold weather.
Which perfume is this?
Hajsuuri, I think it’s the Hermes – in the same series as Sur Le Nil but more a floral with a touch of apple
Dilana clarified that it was the Atelier Cologne but it could have been the Hermès.
Oh thank you! I never realised there was such an Atelier; stands to reason as I think that line of Hermes is specifically suited to summer… ?
I meant the Atalier Cologne. I may have gotten the name slightly wrong since I was posting in a hurry. DIH
A ha! I always refer to it in my brain as the purple one – Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Was going to wear Bvlgari Black and then realized what day it was. I think it will be Lyric instead. I want something that feels red!
Happy Valentine’s springpansy! I wore a spritz of Drole de Rose.
?Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! ?.
Wearing Amouage Lyric?. Ready to make pasta and have dinner with my mom tonight with a glas wine, chocolates and a movie. Simple and relaxing.
Enjoy the day! ?
I’ll probably be joining you in Lyric later today! You smell wonderful!
Looks like there will be at least three of us in Lyric!
Springpansy, I am not even sure if my email to you the other day went thru, because I am having issues with my cell. In case you didn’t the sea salt soap you asked me for is from A La Maison de Provence- Fresh Sea Salt bar soap. It comes in a 8oz bar or a pack of 4 3.5oz bars
Oh, I got it, thanks. I’m sorry – must have forgotten to reply. I have the soap on my list!
No worries! There was no need to reply. I am replacing my cell phone next week, because it doesn’t work properly anymore. I just wanted to make sure that you had the soap info ?.
Thank you! Hope to be twins! Lyric is perfect for today! ???
Happy Valentine’s day. Dinner with mom sounds like a terrific idea!
I enjoyed hearing about your chocolate + rose scent layering yesterday, and Lyric sounds very popular for today! I’ll have to give Lyric a try when I get the chance.
Thank you, Tulipani! ?
I had doubts about the rose-chocolate combo before layering, but it was really fun and delish! ? I will do it more often now. I love Lyric and is one of my favorite rose perfumes. If you have not tried it yet, please let me know and I will add a sample to your package ?. It is a great perfume!
Hi pl67, I would LOVE to try some Lyric! I’ve actually never tried any of the Amouages and have been very curious. It seems like a great house, but has always intimidated me with all the male/female versions sharing the same name!
I know it could be intimidating, but I have approach Amouage without paying attention to the gender. I just try and decide if I like or dislike what I am sampling. Taking it so seriously will cause tons of stress. I will definitely send you some Amouage samples. It will be fun for younto start exploring the line.
I agree with PL67… disregard the gender designations on the Amouage, and approach with an open mind. No need to be scared or intimidated! ?
Have a wonderful celebration.
Thank you, Sistine! ?
Happy Valentine’s Day, all! I’m wearing Sunshine and Pancakes this morning, because there were pancakes and there was *supposed* to be sunshine. My son and I are getting ready to go chanterelle hunting in the hopes of having something wonderful to add to our tinted-pink-with-beets homemade pasta tonight.
Well you smell delicious, and your plans also sounds delicious.
That’s a fabulous name for a perfume! It made me smile just reading it.
Your dinner plans sound fabulous! Hope the forest cooperated and gave you some treasures!
Forgot to post yesterday. Still debating on either Frozen Lake or Vanilla Bean Noel for my candle of the week. Currently in SDV and about to get into the shower so I can wear Lytic. I love Lyric, it was my first great perfume love when I fell down the rabbit hole. And besides, the red bottle is gorgeous.
That’s four of us who will be in Lyric!
Miserable and rainy here in southeastern Virginia. And there does not seem to be any let up in sight. Wearing Cartier Declaration, a Valentine’s Day tradition. The red box, the heart shaped shoulders of the flacon. Lemon, cardamom and cumin goodness. It really is very savory. Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Lunar New Year!
Cold Southern winter rain – this former Atlanta girl remembers it well.
We have the same weather in Raleigh, and I am not impressed.
Happy Valentines day to all here. If we were in a classroom, I would put little cards in your pencil boxes under your desks! In SJP Stash today, one of the few perfumes DH notices and compliments. Had many different ideas (I just joined the Fille de Berlin fan club recently) but thought why not wear what I know he likes? We have beautiful, sunny cold weather, but the winter storm may still move in later tonight. Warm thoughts to all!
You smell great. Stash was my “good luck on tests” perfume when I was in nursing school. I’d wear just a little dab to inhale & get my nerves to calm down. Graduated at the top of my class, so it has a soft spot in my heart!
Good story – and maybe an example of why everyone who can wear perfume should explore them and find the one (or six) that can give that little boost.
Finding comfort in L’Heure Bleue parfum today. Yesterday was the EDT (vintage), but I amped it up for Valentines! I find this one very romantic, if in a sentimental sort of way.
You smell lovely!
Happy Valentine’s Day. I’m in Jasmins Marzipane, which is perfectly sweet and valentiney…. We are debating going out to dinner tonight, since indoor dining has been restored.
Very good night’s sleep. I was at a perfect stage of tired when I hit the sack last night. Love it when that happens.
You smell great, I love JM!
Happy VD everyone! I’m working on another old sample today: Ormonde Jayne Ta’if. A spicy, dusty rose. I read the composition notes on the website after trying to guess, and I never would have picked up the dates but now I notice them. Or am I just really suggestible?
It’s so cold out, I’m making my little dog wear her coat and booties when we go outside. She looks so cute and ridiculous!
You smell great socks!
Happy Valentine’s Day! Not sure yet what my SOTD will be, but it’ll have to be either Azemour, LADDM, 31 rue Cambon, or Saturday, since those are the samples in my travel bag. (Hmm…probably Saturday to start, I think.)
We’re holed up in a cottage way up at the end of the road (quite literally — you cannot drive further north from here). This seemed like the safest way to not be in our house for once while seeing very few people. It’s been snowing all weekend (unusual here, not so much for everyone else!), so we’re just stowed away in a winter wonderland, doing puzzles, playing games, and occasionally hitting the hot tub. It’s very peaceful and relaxing! Later this morning I’ll start on a chocolate skillet cake for tonight.
That sounds like a great way to spend the weekend! Have a fabulous time.
Will brave snowy roads for a slice of chocolate skillet cake.??
Oh man your retreat sounds HEAVENLY! Enjoy to the fullest!
Today I showered with Rose Jam and then topped myself up with incense – Provision’s Manifest body oil followed by their Resonance perfume. I feel grounded which is good, because when I went to the grocery store it was an absolute madhouse. I haven’t seen it like that since the very beginning of the pandemic when everyone was stocking up on everything.
At home relaxing and staying out of the rain. I just feel bad for the dog – she’s not getting as much time outside and is pouty.
You must smell fabulous, a rosey incense. Stay dry and cozy!
Happy Valentine’s Day!?
Trying Vanille Botanique the last sample from a DSH gourmand discovery set…this is the best of the set but still doesn’t wow me somehow.
I have bad eczema on my hands that has flared up probably due to stress. 🙁 I use lots of unscented hand creams but am finally going to get something prescription from the dermatologist. Was trying to avoid steroid creams but was wondering if anyone has recommendations for prescription creams they are using for eczema please.
I have no experience with eczema so I can’t make recommendations, but I hope it clears up quickly and your discomfort goes away!
Thank you, sistine!
My mother had hands eczema a couple of years ago and the dermatologist prescribed Ammonium Lactate Lotion 12% to be applied twice a day, the last one at bed time wearing 100% cotton gloves for better absorption. It worked beautifully.
Thanks, PL67, I shall google the lotion and ask the doc!
Wish I could help with a lotion recommendation.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
I have had extremely bad hand eczema and have tried almost everything (coconut oil, beeswax, you name it). My #1 recommendation is Cerave moisturizing cream, it works so well to heal my skin and keep the flare ups at bay. A friend’s dermatologist said ceramides in that cream heal the skin, and I couldn’t agree more. I use it multiple times a day on my hands. When I get a really bad flare up, I’ll use prescription steroid cream (Fluocinonide, .05%) at night, and then moisturize heavily with Cerave throughout the day. One or two application of the steroid seems to do the trick these days for me, I try not to use it for a prolonged time period. I also started doing meditation since I believe my initial flare up was due to stress as well, and that seemed to help.
Good luck!! Eczema can really be so awful.
Thanks so much, tulipani! I have Cerave and will keep using it. Will also google that cream…I am thinking a steroid cream might keep it at bay too.
Mr. Teebear uses a combination of prescribed taro-diclofenac (a non steroidal anti-inflammatory cream) under a thin layer of Glaxal Base (available at the drug store, has generic versions) which was recommended to him by the doctor.
His eczema is evil and extremely itchy and he can get infections from scratching it open. This has been the best combination of stuff he’s found if he applies it regularly.
Handy note, he was told to always wash his hands *thoroughly* after applying the taro-diclofenac to avoid contaminating the cats with any of it on their fur as they would ingest it later while grooming.
Thanks, teebear! Will google those creams.
La Fille de Berlin for Valentine’s roses 🙂
You smell amazing! ?
Wearing Love by Kilian with a shot of Single Malt for good measure. 🙂 Happy Valentine’s day!
I must do this – you smell great!
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I don’t often have enough time to read the weekend poll these days, but it’s nice seeing everyone’s posts. I am waiting for chili to simmer in the crockpot. Perfect for snowy, insanely cold weather. Wearing Lengling Munich A La Carte No. 6. Very gourmand with toffee, vanilla, pistachio and oud. A little goes a long way. Bought it when we were in Germany in 2016 as a souvenir. Planning to make creme brulee for dessert!
I don’t know that line at all — I’ll look them up! Always interested in German lines.
SOTD = Pablo Morabito Or Black
I had no clue what this smells like but since a partial bottle was available at a reasonable price, why not?
I thought it was a good start to the Picture Challenge given the perfume bottle window. It’s spicy, incensy and leathery, although one must remember my nose cannot always be trusted!

I hope I can sleep tonight. I did a ? run this afternoon a double shot pistachio latte to satisfy my curiosity – it was quite good, but double shot !?. I would order this again but will need to be circumspect on when I drink it.
Wow, that’s a really cool looking perfume bottle!
What a cool bottle!
Hope sleep comes to you! I have been more or less successfully cutting off the caffeine tap by 2pm since last summer, but if someone offered me a double pistachio latte I would probably crumple and take it!
I’ll have to give the pistachio latte a try! Fun coffee drinks have been a sometimes treat during pandemic. I’m curious how the pistachio taste would come through in coffee.

I’m sampling DSH Sweet Pine Tar today and it is like a lovely walk through the forest with fragrant earth churned up beneath my feet and a campfire in the distance.

That Sweet Pine is so good 🙂

Happy Valentine’s Day, NST! ?
A quiet weekend here for me. I had freezing rain yesterday afternoon, so I hunkered down and decided that I wasn’t going anywhere. Definitely had a glaze of ice all over when night fell. Still slick outside today, so I figured I’d just stay in and do a load of laundry.
SOSaturday = AG Ambre Fetiche EdP. It even goes well with a bit of sleep deprivation.
SOTD = SSS Rose Volupte EdT, from my little travel spray. I was inspired by perfumelover67’s run with the roses to wear this today. But there’s a good change I might bounce back over to the Ambre Fetiche tomorrow…
You smell wonderful! I forgot I had a sample of Rose Volupte in the stash. But not sure if I will continue the rose theme longer. Let’s see what I am in the mood for next week.
Thank you! ???
But, ooooopsie, I should have typed “EdP” up there instead of EdT.
