It's Tuesday, and we have a bunch of birthdays: Edgar Allan Poe, Paul Cézanne, Patricia Highsmith, Julian Barnes, Janis Joplin, Edwidge Danticat. Plus a very happy 75th to Dolly Parton! What fragrance are you wearing?
For The Little Red Hen, which made an indelible impression on me as a child in the Little Golden Book edition, I'm wearing Frederic Malle En Passant. (The wheat note in En Passant recalls the bread baked by the little red hen.) Tea at the moment is Upton Zi Xiang Organic.
Reminder: 1/22 will be Fairy Tale Friday. Name a favorite fairy tale or fable, and wear a perfume that fits your choice. Suggested by therabbitsflower. (Wikipedia has a decent list of fairy tales if you need some inspiration; plus see the entry for fables.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the porcelain Grimms' Fairy Tales tea set for 4 by Reutter is €65.
I’m wearing Philosykos today. I heard on NPR that Dolly Parton has chess pie on her birthday instead of cake. Go Dolly! I find it amazing that she’s the same age as my mom. My mom is fabulous, but not Dolly-level fabulous!
Have a great day everyone.
Dolly is fab!
Dolly is SO fab but I’m sure your mom is also. Man, I haven’t had chess pie in forever. Also, you smell amazing.
I have had chess pie never, and had to google it.
Dolly is amazing.
Good morning.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes for chubby buddha
Tea this morning is Vanille des Iles by Mariage Freres
SOTD, I needed something uplifting so Gabrielle Essence did the trick
Did not sleep well at all, combination of eating too many carbs and sugar yesterday and both kids had nightmares.
Thrift store purchase a tan miu miu skirt
Love the Vanille tea, Mariage Freres has a fantastic selection. I drink a red roobios by Adagio teas, perfect with vanilla soy for an extra boost of vanilla flavor.
I’ve maxed out on carbs – got on the scale and immediately regretted that. 😯
Very cute skirt!
I never heard of this tea brand.
I had such a carb day yesterday. Ugh. I feel so bloated in this skirt.
I am still day dreaming about your James Bond mechanic
Yeah, I’m experiencing the five stages of grief, I’ve got to reduce the carb intake and walk more. I’m truly one of those people who has to hit the gym hard every day.
The James Bond mechanic sure is a real cutie! 😉 Come to think of it, I am do next week for my next service.
I understand, I am with you, but having a hard time giving up toast in the morning!
If I lived back in my old stomping grounds I would pay the bill for your car service in exchange for letting me tag along 😉
Gabrielle Essence is very uplifting and fresh- I really like that perfume!
Me too !!
Hate I missed chubby buddha birthday! Yay! Boo for nightmares. 🙁
aww thanks!
He was so spoiled. My beautiful French neighbor, on his birthday morning, made him homemade madeleines and dropped them off to him. He has a lot of lady admirers at the age of 5!
How sweet!! So glad he was spoiled.
Hey House Twin ! You are smelling great ! I hope you get a better night’s sleep tonight .
I finished a sample of Zoologist Camel. Thunk!
You smell awesome!
You smell great!
Wow, you are on a sample thunking roll!
Volutes for an early start.
You smelled great starting out, apsara!
Sampling two scents that share same notes/vibe.
Pavillon rouge (Jovoy)
Vanille Havane (Les Indemodables)
So….
Booze! vanilla! Wood! Tobacco! Leather!
I kinda feel like a pirate today…..arrr ☠️? (probably because i watched that series Black Sails for a while…i stranded in beginning of season 3 haha. First two seasons were nice ‘background television’ though)
Pavillon Rouge ends up more woody and feels slightly greener
Vanille Havane is sweeter and more goumand (cacao! dried fruit. And heavier on the vanilla).
I like them both! And they are not very loud so I think i would wear this to office. If we ever get to work at an office that is…..
Covid19 Lockdown here at this moment means:
Working from home (at least where i work)
All restaurants and bars are closed
All non-essential retail closed as well (only food, liquor and drugstores are open…oh and flower shops)
And now there are talks of a curfew. And more restrictions on how many people may visit at home.
Numbers of those testing positive are decreasing at the moment, but the UK variant is causing quite the panic.
I noticed that my baby department is now carrying baby formula and baby food. I’m wondering if it’s so we can be considered essential, and be exempt from another shutdown. ( my store is totally not essential, lol) I’m going to ask about it.
A few big retailers here in The Netherlands tried it in december. I am talking about stores who mainly sell non-food like clothing and toys. But also some food…
It lasted for a few hours.
Government decided that same day to tighten the rules and they needed to close
I’ve been rewatching Black Sails and playing the pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed game (Black FLAG) on and off, so I’ll join your crew!
Yo ho ho, welcome aboard matey ?
My husband played Black Flag and declared it his favourite AC game.
Apparently there is no proof pirates say Arrrr.
And those parrots are probably more common in novels than irl.
But still, i like to say arrrre and pretend I have a parrot on my shoulder. Because why not. ??
I’m not a “devoted” gamer, probably only finish 4-5 titles during a non-covid year…I probably haven’t touched an AC since the 2nd one? But I am enjoying bouncing around Havana looting rum stashes and listening to sea shanties.
Ah sea shanties!
Have you seen this video?
https://youtu.be/UgsurPg9Ckw
Makes me happy ?
I used to game a lot. But these days I am happy if i find time to play a few times a month
…and finishing games? …i dont know what that is (last game I finished was Dragon Age 2 ?)
Jiji, my husband stumbled across that video the other day and we must have listened to it a dozen times – it’s wonderful!
Oh btw that video link has a horrible remix after one minute,
but i think it was obvious it was the first part that made me happy. Haha.
Shanties are having a MOMENT! Love it.
Same here — numbers going down to the point where they were right before restrictions were put in place in November, but lots of panic about the UK variant. (We also have the South African variant here, but it doesn’t seem to be causing the same panic.)
No lockdown, though. Restaurants are open, all retail is open, the schools are open and even the universities have loosened some restrictions for spring semester. So, lots of people not working from home. They’ve shut down “events”, required masks indoors in public, and that’s about it. They “recommend against” travel outside your region, which hasn’t stopped a lot of people.
It’s funny that flower shops are essential where you are! At least a bit of cheer for people, I guess?
Oh schools..yes they are closed as well here. I almost forgot.
I have lots of co workers who have to juggle 2 jobs now: teaching their children and doing their job.
Extremely stressful for some folks.
As for the flowers and plants. Shops are only allowed to sell them outdoors….
Yes, I am so glad about the schools here (knocking on wood). My kid is the only one of her cousins still in school (the other cousins are in the US / UK). The US set will have been out of school for 1.25 years at the end of this school year. It’s awful, both for parents and kids.
Oh! I love that tea set. But I would end up breaking every piece. Sticking to sturdier mugs.
Twilly d’Hermes Eau Poivree, which was an impulse/retail therapy purchase somewhere along the way in Q4. I regret nothing.
The sun is out and it is supposed to break 40 degrees today. Will definitely be getting my walk in this afternoon before piano. But first I must do laundry and reach my self-assigned school work goals for the day. Have a great one, everybody!
Eau Poivree is lovely! You smell great.
Thank you!
Enjoy your walk! It’s sooooo windy here today.
It was pretty fantastic. Lots of people out enjoying the sunshine today. There isn’t a lot of sunshine in January in KY, so you have to get it when you can.
How is that flanker to the original?
I like it a lot. It’s a rose/patchouli, which is my jam. The pepper is definitely pink, not black. Maybe a bit of a cherry note? I don’t think it’s as original as the tuberose/ginger thing Twilly had going on, but it’s a little sassier. Like red lipstick vs. pink.
I have and like Twilly but something in Au Poivre did not agree with me, which is strange as I love both rose and patch. ?♀️
Wish I could identify these mystery notes I sometimes encounter and don’t like.
Yay for January sunshine!
Fairy Tale Friday! How charming. I have no ideas at all, though. I’ll just have to wait for some good suggestions from you all.
I’m in Epice Marine today, floating in a wonderful bed of cardamom. The weather was fantastic throughout our long weekend, with highs between 72 – 77F. Today it’s very windy and a bit chilly, but eh, what’s January without a bit of chill?
It was soooo nice down here this past weekend as well! Sunny and in the 70s in January!? I’ll take it!
Hey wait, can I go back and say my Epice Marine invokes the Little Mermaid? (The Disney version, to be sure.)
I’m buying what you’re selling! CP points for you!
Very generous of you, thank you 🙂
It’s very mild here as well. I’ll enjoy it before the rains hit in a day or so. Enjoy your weather!
Wearing Rochas Absolu, lovely honeyed/floral over resins. Thank you so much to Cazaubon. 🙂
Coffee consumed, now sipping a cup of Vanilla Rooibos tea by Adagio teas. I’m about to throw the walking shoes on and head out the door. We had 90mph winds last night, I did not sleep well, I’m a little bleary-eyed. Looking into purchasing an indoors exercise bike, wading through the reviews.
I’ve got a smoked-cedarwood seasoned salmon marinating in the fridge for tonight’s supper. Sides are mixed greens, garlic marinated asparagus.
Sounds DELICIOUS.
Thank you! I love most food, but need to train myself to enjoy seafood.
Unless it’s crab, shrimp, and lobster, of course.
I try to document my food goodies on instagram. In addition to funny pictures of the surrounding area.
Mmmmm sounds so good.
I will be right over for dinner
Come on over! I make plenty for leftover lunches. 🙂
90mph! The winds were crazy down in the south bay, too, though I don’t know how bad it got. (Definitely was woken up by intense rustling and whistling a number of times.) The winds were still blowing strong up until maybe an hour ago. Our yards are littered with leaves. I still haven’t done a walkabout to see if all my plants survived!
If you decide against a bike and for an elliptical, I’ve got a rec 🙂
The winds were super-crazy, weren’t they?
Even with ear plugs, I was woken up. 😯
If I decide on an elliptical, I’ll let you know! Thanks for offering. 🙂
Yes, crazy, and I think they may have been worse this afternoon. Reporting in from the North Bay.
High winds make me so cranky.
90 mph winds??? ACK! I’d be unrested and very grouchy.
Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte.
Today, my daughter will have a bridal photo session here in our home. I wanted to get some good shots of her while it is calm. I have a feeling the day of her wedding may get a little “crazy”. Good crazy, but still…
She’s our only daughter, so I won’t get to do this again. I want to get it right. Actually, I am hoping and praying that she will have a wedding with the scary coronavirus still hanging around. I can’t be doom and gloom for her though, and we’re pushing forward. As much a we can with it. Her wedding is in March.
Mazel Tov! She will look absolutely beautiful. 🙂
Oh, I do hope her wedding goes wonderfully – fingers crossed for “good crazy”! One of my nieces had planned a big wedding for early last summer, and of course that had to be postponed. They eventually had a very small ceremony in my brother’s back yard in the fall, and are now planning a belated larger celebration for early October. Looking forward to that. 🙂
Enjoy the photo shoot! Congratulations!
Enjoy the photo shoot! Sending so many positive vibes your way for March!
House twins ?♀️
How lovely; have a great shoot!
I hope you have fun with the photo shoot, and congrats to the bride!
Congratulations! I’m sure the pictures will be lovely.
Congrats on you daughters wedding plans! I hope the pics turn out great (and the wedding as well of course!)
Thank you ! It went beautifully 🙂
And, my Cristalle Eau Verte is still going strong !
Best wishes for the photos and the wedding plans going forward!
I love the Fairytale theme! Today I chose Dame Desert Rose, thinking of Sleeping Beauty (“Briar Rose”), but there are so many roses in fairy tales that it could work for several stories.
Robin, my grandma had a beloved little golden book of fairy tales with amazing illustrations, which I’ve since hunted down copies of for my sisters. Your inspirations speaks to me!
Love that fairy tale connection!
I know we had a bunch in that Golden Book series, but The Little Red Hen is the only one that really stuck with me.
How nice that you were able to find copies!
I’m in Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe today.
Who knows, maybe Captain Hook would wear that one?
Ha ha! Yes ? But he would need to be far more dashing than Dustin Hoffman’s interpretation!
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/photos/2014/12/10-sexiest-captain-hooks
Before I did a quick Google search and found this page, I only knew 3 of these… ? I did not know Jason Isaacs played Hook!!!
OMG – there are a couple of Ambre Russe worthy Hooks there! Thanks for link!
You smell great!
I was also in ‘boozy leather’ today, though my picks had a more tropical vibe with the vanilla and tobacco.
Chanel Coromandel EdT for a crazy, busy day.
Happy Tuesday! ?
Wore that before I took my shower, you smell fabulous!
Thank you! ?
Smelling great!
Thanks! ?
You smell fantastic! Any version of Coromandel is just lovely.
Thank you, Nancy! I have not tried the EdP yet, but many of you agree that there are not significant differences with the EdT, which is really good.
Smelling fabulous!! I agree with Nancy, any version is spectacular…
Thank you, ST! Coromandel is a beauty. I wonder why I don’t wear it more often!
Nice! I love Coromandel!
Thank you! ?
??!
?
Hello all!
Finishing my dusting this morning over a cup of genmaicha. I’m trying to clear out ten bottles from my collection, so look out next freebie meet (if I can wait that long!) So far I’m at 6 but it hasn’t been hard to clear the bottom ranks a bit.
I’m wearing Elizabeth Taylor Black Pearls to see if I should keep it. The peach just doesn’t work for me but it’s not bad….
Stay safe everyone!
Oh I will definitely be keeping an eye out! I’m also very excited to hear about what you have added this week!
It’s trapped at customs for the moment. Debating contacting DHL tomorrow….
My destash won’t be too crazy, just cheap thrills that didn’t quite work.
I recently watched a rerun of The Nanny, and Elizabeth Taylor made a guest appearance and she talked about her new perfume named Black Pearls 🙂
Yes, quite a publicity stunt. I can imagine a better peach leather sadly. This one has a real strident peach….
I found that in a set of minis I bought somewhere and do kind of love it, although it borders on being a little bit cloying. (Black Pearl.)
There’s a good idea in here somewhere I think! I would be curious to try the parfum one day.
Peach is a challenging note for me as well. The only one that seems to work on me more often than note is in Mitsouko.
Grrrrrr… that should be “more often than not”!
I love Sophia Grossman’s peaches and apricots but here is very air freshener.
Oh, thanks for reminding me about Tresor! That one also works if it’s vintage.
I am in DSH The Voices of Trees for The Old Woman in the Wood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Woman_in_the_Wood). My sample is almost gone. I think I am going to buy a 10ml.
I love that name for a perfume ?
I needed something to match my blackberry and vanilla body cream, so I went with Tokyo Milk Dark Tainted Love. Good match ??
I just love that name!
Song to match your perfume: https://youtu.be/CCTBuOheUpE
The Little Red Hen also made a big impression on me when my grandma would read it to me and my cousin growing up. We got the message – better help grandma make the bread. I was very close to my grandma so thank you Robin for that memory this morning.
Sotd – Cabochard – now fading on me because as someone said yesterday, my skin eats scent. I love the smokey, mossy, woody-ness. Also seems like a fairy tale fragrance but I’ll have to think of which one.
You smell great! Something that happens in a forest, perhaps Hansel and Gretel? At least it ends well.
Ha, I still mention it to my son when he will not help in the kitchen but wants to eat! Does not have any noticeable effect on him, though.
(Also, in my family, a frequent answer to “I don’t care” is “so the lion ate him”, which is a Maurice Sendak reference.)
Thank you and Hansel and Gretel is perfect!
Robin – I love the Sendak reference.
SOTD is Nirvana French Grey, inspired by some chatter about it yesterday. And I like it, so the fact that I didn’t even think about it for the CP last week means that I have some decluttering to do.
I really enjoy vintage Estée Lauder. I have a bottle of Knowing with the twisted glass and the diabolical cap design that has too many sides, where it connects to the glass, and leaks. So when I spray it, it just pours out around that seal and if fluid got out, air got in, so no more flowers just that ash tray thing that happens to these. If you have one of these bottles, check it carefully and parafilm or tape around that seal. You will not know you have a problem until you go to spray and it waterfalls everywhere, it did not leak in storage. A rather sad thunk. I consoled myself with a couple of squirts of Aramis.
I’m glad I don’t have leaky perfume bottles!
Have you noticed any leaking with the old Azuree bottle style?
I am wearing Red Door. Red Door itself is a kind of fairy tale, since it is the name of an Elizabeth Arden Fifth Avenue spa, which offered the drema of eternal beauty and youth to NY Society matrons.
I started my own fairy tale about twin orphans Honey and Rose who live in a shire surrounded by a wall with a single red door. Rose and Honey raise roses and tend to bees but must pay tribute to those on the other side of the door. When they go to protest the taxes, they learn those on the other side of the door are only concerned with their own beauty and have tricked the shirespeople into paying tribute. The Duke notices how beautiful Rose and Honey smell and force them to make ointments. Rose wants to fight her way to freedom using her gardenshing shires, but Honey says, ” We have a better way. Remember he is a silly Duke, of vain people, but we have friends who are queens who command warriors.” They continue to make a scented ointment from their honey and wax and roses.
Meanwhile their own roses begin to wilt without Rose at home to protect them. The bees begin looking far and wide for food elsewhere. The drones discover that people beyond the red door are covering themselves with honey and distilled roses. The bees of course have their own ways of reporting back. Soon scores of queens and their hives swarm to the land beyond the door and land upon the honey rose coated Duke and his people. Honey grabs her beekeepers hoods, puts on Rose and one on herself, grabs her smoker and the sisters safely flee back to their home.
They no longer pay tribute to the Duke but now sell a softer version of their scent from beyond the red door and live happily ever.
My other version was running to about three pages, before we even meet the Duke. It also had no so subtle notions regarding those who levy taxes but provide no services to the taxed and some people’s preference to believe in the fairy tales of benevolent rulers rather than think for themselves. So I hope you liked the summary.
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I only realised on the 2nd reading that they were captured and kept on the other side of the door and that the bees liberated them. Have you read any of those books of adult fairytales? I think there is one called The Bloody Chamber which was quite a read!
I have read one or two adult fairy tales, but can not quite recall them this instant. As a kid I favored more “adult” and less Disneyish versions of fairy tales. George McDonald etc.
Like yours they tend to be more politically engaged than the traditional versions.
I ❤️ The Bloody Chamber!
Nice to meet another fan!
Love your post?
Great story! ??
I loved this! I’d wear a rose, honey and smoke fragrance in its honor, if I had one. Anybody know of one?
SOTD is Azemour, for the simple reason that I was trying to get ready quickly before a meeting and the bottle was out on the counter. Trying to retroactively think of a fairy tale that has oranges — “The Love for Three Oranges,” I guess?
Sun here and a day that’s not slammed with meetings, so that’s something to celebrate. I have a new boss who just joined the organization and has a thousand ideas for reform / improvement. He talks a mile a minute, and I’m finding it hard to parse out just exactly what he expects me to do. So I need to take some time to think and sort it all out. 🙂
Princess and the frog has the golden ball which is kind of like an orange… 🙂
I LOVED that tale. Probably because of the illustrations which were gorgeous!
Shalimar edt yesterday because it was Monday and I just needed Shalimar. 🙂 Today Nuit Noire today from a sample which I’ve really enjoyed previously but I am not sure if it’s turning or what but it not working for me today. Not sure if enough to scrub it, but definitely not what I’d like for the day.
I get annoyed when you pick a fragrance and it doesn’t work
I was very annoyed haha
Did you end up changing?
Nah I stuck it out and it got a lot better. The dry down was fine so maybe something is just off on the top notes/initial spray.
Fun CP! I’m in Lilac Love, which feels on point but for no specific fairy tale that comes to mind. Showered this AM using En Passant shower gel so on a scent theme methinks.
You smell good!!
Why thank you!
Let me help you out: your perfume represents the Lilac Fairy Book! Today I am wearing Etro Heliotrope and thus representing the Blue Fairy book. Doing some CP retrofitting…
Forgot about those books! Almost certain my kids inherited my Green Fairy book. We in CA really appreciate retrofitting!
Wore Cormandel this morning but now I am in no 5 body stuff. Doing some returns today and a couple other errands today.
I love Coromandel! I hope your returns and errands were uneventful!
I’m in Jovoy’s Psychedelique which is EVIDENTLY The Beast from Beauty and the – .
It’s not at all ‘a beast’ in perfume terms – instead it’s a very smooth chocolate patchouli-d amber. Very civilised in a blue velvet and baritone way.
Except when one accidentally sprays a big dose on a very nice coat which then got dry cleaned to oblivion 3 days before vacation travel ?
Oh, it was choking you? I don’t find it THAT strong but maybe I haven’t tried it on fabric. And maybe wool coats amplify?
It reeked of too much perfume and you know how I wear 8 sprays? This ended up being the equivalent of way more than that! It was a Burberry coat which made it a little bit more painful.
Oh no! I do think 8 sprays of this one would be suffocating on a coat… ? Hope the dry cleaning worked. Winter is tricky cos if you spray a jacket, coat or jersey you are stuck with the scent… But if you only spray under it’s hard to detect. I tend to stick to throat, neck and wrists.
That coat was trash after the dry cleaning and travel. It became crunchy and crunchy does not work for this type of coat. I donated it and hopefully it landed with a person who could use it!
? Thanks for sharing the story though – it’s a good cautionary tale!
Wearing Divine from Divine. It’s a beautiful floral, not too sweet. I’m sure there are many fairytale princesses who would wear this 🙂
Whose lives would not include vacuuming up potting mix from yet more plants knocked on the floor by cats.
Ha!
I always mean to explore Divine.
I like this house a lot – every scent I’ve sampled has been of high quality.
You are smelling wonderful Gaynor, I love Divine, and Divine par Divine is my favourite from this house.
Smelling gorgeous while vacuuming!
I loved The Little Red Hen and remember the illustrations well, thanks for the childhood memory, Robin ?
Wearing DSH Inner Sanctum for Sleeping Beauty today, or the old tale of Snow White and Rose Red and the bear they took in. We had a set of the orange Childcraft books and I devoured those fairytales, plus one volume featured Aesop’s fables which I loved. I’ll save my favorite for Friday. Fun project this week!
I’m a fan of Snow Wise and Rose Red – although I always found the second prince a bit lame as a story device (“we got a prince for each of you!”)
Oh, great perfume choice for Sleeping Beauty! And I think you might have helped inspire me in my choice for tomorrow.
Happy birthday to all those listed in the intro. I read and very much enjoyed Julian Barnes’s The Sense of An Ending. The Wikipedia entry for that book rings no bells for me at all, though – a lesson in how differently people perceive things, I guess (much like perfume, actually).
My SOTD is Papillon Dryad, because there seems to be a forest in every fairy tale, and Dryad evokes a fairy forest nicely.
You smell enchanting!
?
Thank you!
Dryad does conjure fairy forest! You smell lovely.
I have met Julian Barnes’s brother (twin?) whose name is Jonathan. He is an absolutely brilliant philosopher.
I’m in Over the Musk and smelling really good.
I just sat down to lunch and realized I left half of it sitting on the kitchen counter at home. Lol. Oh well, guess it’ll be an early dinner tonight!
I get so frustrated when I do that!
Oooooops! ?
Lost power several times this morning due to very high winds, the longest outage lasting over an hour. So I’m very thrown off, and quickly making more tea while I can get hot water!
Today I’m wearing a couple patchouli-focused scents that I wanted to compare, so not yet in CP mode. But I am very excited to pick some scents for the fairy tale theme! I’m thinking gingerbread for sure and something with an enchanted forest vibe.
Good choices
I haven’t decided what to wear yet so I am scavenging for ideas!
Do you work from home? How do you handle power outages?
Yes, I do work from home and my kid is online-schooling too. So it was quite a disruption! I had to reschedule a meeting because Zoom doesn’t work great on my phone, but I then mostly worked offline. Power was restored right before lunch, thankfully!
Copying PriscillaE and adding a bit of Zoologist Camel to my Lush I’m Home. Going for Hansel and Gretel gingerbread vibes!
Mr. Teebear’s and my wedding anniversary is tomorrow – as with other holidays/occasions, we don’t normally celebrate it.
BUT t-bone steaks were on sale at the supermarket this week for just $13/kg ($6/lb Canadian!) so I thought it was time to bust out a special occasion!
Result: Mr. Teebear making fun of the bacon/cheese cocktail wieners I also bought on fire-sale (we still needed to eat dinner the rest of the week!) and being exceedingly confused as to why we have steaks in the fridge.
He has no idea it’s our anniversary this week – but in all fairness, I only realized yesterday when searching for a plausible excuse to buy those steaks. And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is why we don’t normally make a big deal out of celebrating occasions! ? We’re a matched pair at least.
So no holidays at all?
We are not great with anniversaries either, but usually someone remembers.
Yeah – we’ve neither of us ever been big b-day or holiday people. Choosing not to stress over remembering or planning for them has been awesome.
Sounds like you are a matched pair
Happy celebration nonetheless.
Retrofitting the fancy food purchase – well done!
Exactly AnnieA!!!! ?
Yay! Congratulations on the anniversary tomorrow!
That was an excellent price for T-bone steaks! Enjoy, and congrats on the anniversary!
Happy Tuesday!
1) A brilliant, sunny but very cold day today in Portland.
2) SOTD: LM Creme Brulee eau toilette- light but warming for today!
3) The downed fence is now 99% COMPLETED! The local handyman and his compatriot did the work- and did the work properly. All that remains are sealing and a couple of touch ups! So my neighbor gets a nice property line fence for free and my backyard looks neater and better overall.
You did not previously have an issue with the neighbor, did you? Regardless, it was a beautiful job!
Oh no, I was being snarky! She is actually up to her nose with her mortgage and her own house projects (she ripped out her kitchen and redid her electrical grounding last year) so she is skint. It’s one thing she will not have to worry about- we also strengthened the other panels as well.
Absolute Aphrodisiac today…I smell great! ?
Also we are down a fish in the tank and suspect Greta vs. Hans as Mr. She-ra caught Greta w/ her arm in the tank the other night. 🙁 ? There’s a fairly big opening where the pump sits in back in case you are trying to visualize and understand how she accomplished this feat.
Greta and Hans are clever kittens we have had about a month. She is a bit obsessed w/ the fish in true cat fashion. Hans is more dog-like and not really interested in them. Greta is kind of the Brain whereas Hans is more like Pinky.?
Oh no! Sorry for the loss of a fish, but those are also some great visuals of your kittens as Pinky and the Brain ?
Yikes for the extra protein for the kitteh. It sounds like you have a pair of playful ones!
Two of the previous cats we had used to mess around with our fish tank, when we had one. After one of them fell in (!), we didn’t really have anymore kitty excursions of that type.
L Air de Rien today and lots of it. Made yapchae today the first time. Turned out great, the boyfriend ate three bowls of it.
You smell cozy.
I’m in Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDT from an old sample, and wish I had more of this. Great for the weather, 76 degrees, sunny and a bit humid.
Tea of the day was Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast + Republic of Tea chai tea bag.
I got a call just now that my PCP isn’t seeing patients. No explanation of any sort. I’m trying not to come to any conclusions about it. ?
Hmm.. I would try to come to any conclusions either
I’ve been intending to get a new PCP, so it looks like now is the time.
No explanation at all? Curiouser and curiouser!
I know, I’m trying not to let my imagination run rampant.
Vintage Chanel 5, for the fairy godmother. I think I have to go re-spray already..
Oh yes, No 5 has something fairy-like or angelic.
No. 5 is the fairy godmother! LOL. Lovely thought…
Interesting! I had her pegged as Shalimar edp…
I was wearing Fenjal body spray all day, it lasts really well for a simple spray but this evening I am wearing VC&A Ambre Imperial which I purchased last year in summer so I hadn’t had the opportunity to give it a full wear, there is a lovely orangey opening before the amber kicks in.
You smell nice! I agree this is a colder weather scent.
Thank you, yes it shines in winter weather.
Shalimar Vanilla by way of Mexico…don’t really have a fairy tale attached to this fragrance. It is what it is, and I always feel a little better when I am wearing it…
Mexique is my favorite Shalimar. You smell wonderful!
SotD = POTL Luctor et Emergo
Almond, cherry, and woods today. Smells like a fairy tale to me, one filled with pastry. ?
Yum! I like this sweet foodie interpretation of the fairy tale theme!
I may have to pull this one out! You smell gooooood!
Maybe the witch’s house in the forest for “Hansel and Gretel”?
Good choice. I may have to pull that ones out this week, too.
Running late today! Things got busy this afternoon, and time just flew by.
Hajusuuri: I sniffed Paracelsus last night, and also this morning when I was deciding on my SOTD. I needed something that was going to help me tackle a bunch of tasks, so I put my sample back. It seems that either leather, chypre, or iris scents are my “Get ‘er done!” perfumes.
SOTD = HdP 1740 EdP again today. For getting it done!
Keep sniffing ?. At least you got stuff done!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Always perfect!

So yesterday was supposed to be a day off, that is, until the afternoon, when I got a text where I was needed to do something. For what it’s worth, I should calculate how much it costs a company to send an email to 500-600 people and won’t be surprised if I got to $$,$$$. Let’s just say I got involved halfway through the process and I was in a combination of doing and watching and waiting for a good almost 6 hours. Maybe No.19 was to make up for this? ?. I did get expected good news today, so there’s that!
Yay for good news, but you had a lot of aggro to wade thru today!
My SOTD is Heretic Smudge. I just ordered it as part of my sample set and then, wouldn’t you know it, found I already had a small bottle of it, which I may have bought in a deal here. Good to know I actually do like it, since now more is on its way to me! We had 75 degrees today, amazingly mild and pleasant. I sat on the porch for a Zoom cocktail hour with friends, most of whom were in the northeast, and they were quite impressed with my flowers, plants, and blue skies!
On the fairy tale theme, I’m struck that so many traditional fairy tales are really very dark, including both Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. You just can’t pretty them over. This makes it challenging to find an appropriate perfume. I love the one about the young princess who had seven brothers, and a curse turned them into swans. She had to sew cloaks for them out of nettles for them all to be freed. Meanwhile she had married a young handsome king but his people became suspicious of her eccentric sewing activities and lobbied to get her killed. She is only rescued at the last moment when all the brothers appear at sunset and she throws cloaks over their backs and they are reinstated into being princes not swans. I have images of that story burned into my brain. I have no idea what perfume might work to illustrate it.
I’m with you on the dark fairy tales. Somehow as a kid I had old copies of those books. Maybe they were from when my parents were kids. I remember in Cinderella the sisters cutting off parts of their feet. That’s just one example. My recollection is that very few ended happily ever after… but I think a lot of kids never read those and grew up on Disney.
Wow, I do not know that one! But yes, fairy tales are generally gruesome.
Posting super late. Slept in Shalimar. SOTD was Five O’clock Au Gingembre. It’s faded now so I am ready for something else. I’ll see if everyone’s posts give me inspiration!
For this CP, my head just keeps going to stories where people are tempted by sweet treats. Almost any sweet will work for Hansel & Gretal. Yesterday’s Fetes Persanes reminds me of fairies tempting mortals with food in fairy land or the Turkish Delight in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (though that’s not technically a fable).
I need to read the list of fairy tales and fables! Rumplestilskin was a favorite story as a child.
Hansel & Gretel is on my list too — it’s an easy one.
I considered wearing some sort of pear shampoo thing for Rumplestiltskin, but why suffer?
Hello! I’ll try to think of a perfume to go with a fairy tale. 🙂
I’m trying to remember fragrances I tried the past couple of days. I wanted to find my little collection of Comme des Garcons samples to wear some of the incense fragrances I mentioned over the weekend, but I didn’t see that bag offhand. I put on SL Rahat Loukhoum yesterday evening. It smelled more sugary than I remembered.
I found my bag of Parfum d’Empire samples today. Thanks to those kindly NST folks who sent those samples! 🙂 I tried Eau Suave this afternoon. I found it rather different from the perfumes I’m used to, but not in an unpleasant way. I ended up liking it. This is why I appreciate all the chances the folks here have given me to try an assortment of things, many of which I didn’t know about, or wouldn’t have thought I’d ever have a chance to try. 🙂 I’ve done my share of getting samples on my own, too. (lol) It’s all given me a way to learn about what I like and don’t like. 🙂
