Is anybody sorry to see 2020 done and dusted? I don't think so. Donatella Versace, Our Lady of Perfumed Plenty,1 kept herself busy last year, and now she wants to help you start the new year with a clean slate and a clean conscience. Do confess what you bought in the 4th quarter (October, November and December) of 2020, you'll feel better.
Note that if you have javascript disabled, you won't be able to vote in the poll, but you can still record your purchases in the comments.
My purchases...
I spent $92 in the third quarter, and that was it for me for the year. (My furniture and home decor buying, however, was extensive. Luckily I don't keep a decorating blog so I don't have to confess that to anybody.)
As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don't include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles). Samples don't generally count at all, even though some of us spend considerable sums obtaining them.
1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.
For what I spent in decants, I could have purchased multiple full bottles. However, in reality I purchased a full bottle of Timbuktu, which I have yet to receive. Mail problem or the fact that I bought it off of an Etsy site? Hard to say.
Timbuktu is beautiful. I hope your new bottle shows up soon! ?
I chose 2-4, but one of the things I got was a perfumath-free Wrappings set (~$35), while the other “purchase” was my way of counting a number of decants, so I might have reasonably chosen 1 in the above poll. Either way, I feel I’ve been the very model of self-discipline š
I bow to you, Koyel. š
I need that “new math” about combining purchases!! Brilliant.
I listed one, but I think I bought the same Wrappings set for less than $35 so (in perfume math) it’s free, right!?
I bought 6 bottles and a decant, so I was not too bad, and most were not too expensive. I spent approximately 180ā¬ on perfume, because I sold some decants.
I bought 3 bottles from 4160Tuesdays, because they had a sort of sale. Now I have Doe in the snow 30ml, 50ml of Meet me on the corner and 50ml of Lady Rose Lion.
I bought a 100ml Perles de Lalique and a 45ml Bub of Aromatics Elixir. Also a slightly used big bottle of Agent Provocateur.
Plus I found a 10ml decant of the sadly discontinued Pour La Belle.
I think I got some great scents for a good price, the only bottle I would not buy again is Lady Rose Lion…
I always feel wistful about the 4160 Tuesdays empty-the-closet sale, which is limited to the UK. With luck the Lady Rose Lion was a really good bargain to make up for its being so-so.
They had a buy a size, get the next bigger sized bottle for the same prize. Not too bad
It is not limited to the UK! I ordered a bunch of stuff, shipping to the US was Ā£25ā
Really?!! I was sure the Royal Post is very severe about perfume packages…
She ships to the US by Fedex.
I had gotten the Clinique Happy gift set ( full bottle, body lotion and rollerball), Clinique Wrappings gift set and the Chanel mini twist spray of CM Intense. Not a massive haul but a good one.
Did we all buy that Wrappings set!!
Yeah, it does look like we were all over it like white on rice. That was a blind buy for me but Clinique is an inexpensive brand.
I sure did.
I wonder if thereās someone tucked away in the accounting department of stores who feels waves of joy when an NSTer shares a good deal (or an accessible lemming).
Another year has gone by without my even sampling Wrappings. I have my vintage Azuree to help me bid my time until the moment is right! Wrappings seems like a great value, and I am a Lauder fangirl for sure. Go team inexpensive blind buy!!!
I went a bit hog wild in the 4th quarter which contributed to me going 46% over my 2020 perfume budget. And thus, like any good corporation, I am increasing my 2021 perfume budget by 50%. š Feast your eyes on the vanillas below…
Samples: Kyse and DSH (these haven’t been received yet)
Discovery sets: Nuit Nomade and Les Indemodables
Travel spray: V&R Bonbon Couture
Full bottles: Gallagher Vanilla Silk, Gallagher Wicked Good, 4160 Tuesdays Rhubarb & Custard, EL Modern Muse Nuit, Shalimar Souffle Intense (tester), Shalimar Souffle de Lumiere (tester)
I’m very tempted by the indemodables set – I know it’s been discussed a few times, but do you think it’s a good one?
Yes, it is a good line imho. Not a poser niche house that relies on aroma chemicals overmuch. š
Those are great purchases and LOL at the increased budget for next year!
Please tell us about rhubarb and custard–is it a gourmand scent? Sweet vanilla + tart rhubarb…but any egginess?
Yes, it is a gourmand to my nose. Fragrantica classifies it as a vanilla oriental which means close to nothing ehaeheh but I am always curious to look at their categories.
I get rhubarb, vanilla and some tobacco. I really like the tang of the rhubarb. I don’t recall much egginess but will investigate w/ my next wearing. I drained a sample and bought a FB. I shall be happy to send you some of this to try too. ??
An oriental vanilla rather. I am going to peruse their classifications more…Fragrantica is a wormhole I just can’t get enough of. ehaeheh
I love your decision to increase your budget!
Yes, I just need a government bail out now too.?
When I select a vanilla perfume I always think of you.
ā„ļø It’s like I’m vanilla’s unpaid spokesperson.
Shalimar Souffle Intense is wonderful, and almost perfume-math free at the discounters if you squint. How is Modern Must Nuit? Does it remind you of anything? I had it in and out of the cart several times this quarter….
Kind of mash up of Angel and maybe Midnight Poision? It reminds me of a few different things but I shall have to give it more thought ehaeheh I would be happy to send you some. It’s a like for me but not a love…maybe too much heliotrope..? I can be reached at gmail where I am sherainsocal if interested.
I restrained from buying Bon Bon. So far.
Favorite vanilla, Wicked Good or Vanilla Silk?
Another very good idea to increase the budget.āŗ
Wicked Good definitely….the tonka smells very chewy to my nose almost like tobacco and the drydown is exquisite.
Chanel le Lion
Une Nuit Nomade Ambre Kajdal
JM Orange Bitters
Apsara, that sounds very well-curated. I aspire to that approach. Perhaps a “gulp” at some FB price or other, but then I’d get more and frequent happy wearing…..
well, considering this was a year of no buy and I ended up buying a total of 7 all year (one was a gift) I would say I am rather proud of myself.
*Chortle* That is very good, though, just seven!
Sephora had a mini-bottle set including Vanille Insensee and a Nest votive candle, so that was counted as one bottle altogether. Ended up not buying anything else in the sales, which was slightly surprising.
I am slightly surprised I didn’t buy anything this quarter myself. Sounds like you got a good deal!
After a year of buying almost nothing, I went a bit hog-wild beginning in late November and culminating in mid December. I started off with the inexpensive but really good perfumes by Molinard, including Vanille, Patchouli, Cuir, and Musc. Then I bought a bottle on sale of Atelier’s Iris Rebelle. Around Christmas I purchased a bottle of Parfum de Marly’s Delina, followed by the 75 ml bottles of Chanel’s Le Lion and 1957, and then Le Jardin de Retrouve’s Cuir de Russie. I think I will be in a “no buy” mode for the next couple of months.
But some nice scents you got, I like Iris Rebelle
I added up all my purchases for 2020 (I include candles, scented lotions, samples) and I’m about twice my typical budget. If that had been the main casualty of COVID on the world, I would be thrilled. But sadly, it’s not.
For the last quarter:
TF Lost Cherry 10 ml travel spray (I love it. And so does Mr. SP. Of course we do, because it’s $$$$ and has a ridiculous name.)
Lots of DSH samples
Essential Faith Aura (it’s a great vanilla musk and I do like it but did I *need* it? Not really, it was a panic purchase when it was 30% off)
That Lost Cherry travel spray is a good one – my little sample will soon run out, and then I will be very tempted!
Hi, SpringPansy: let me know if you found a favorite DSH. I am going to try to support American niche and other independent houses this year.
Sure – I do have some suggestions depending on what you like.
Forgive me Donatella because I have sinned!Ā
My damage for the quarter:
-A decant of Guerlain Iris Torrefie.Ā
-A decant of Serge LutensĀ De Prufundis.
-A decant of Serge Lutens 5 O’Clock Au Gingembre.
-Neera Vermeire Bombay Bling travel set.
-Gallivant Bukhara 30ml full bottle.Ā
-Comme des Garcons Ouarzazate 50ml full bottle.
– Montale Full Incense 100ml full bottle (I will offer this on the next splitmeet).
– Etro Messe de Minuit 100ml full bottle (I will offer this on the next splitmeet).Ā
What a wonderful list! It’s a shame (for me) that you won’t be putting Ouarzazate up at the next splitmeet too.
Sorry! I already swapped half of the bottle of Ouarzazate, but hopefully someone else will eventually put it up for split.
You were on an incense kick, lovely choices.
Thanks you, Aurora! I have definitely been on and incense kick lately. They have been very helpful and comforting during the pandemic.
Nice job getting that Etro while you still could.
It is a great one! Glad I got it on time.
Unless I’m forgetting, I only have one bottle to report – and that one is a split!
I bought Safran Troublant and split 40ml or so off it.
But – what I didn’t buy in FB, I might have made up for in decants and discovery sets:
Participated in 3 of Hajusuuri’s splits, and in the Taif splitmeet.
Bought a Hiram Green discovery set from Hiram Green directly, which is slated to arrive tomorrow after over a month of shipping time.
Also bought the Olympic Orchids Discovery set vol.2 (and was going to buy vol. 1 during the December sale but didn’t get around to it).
Finally, a Maison Louis Marie discovery set as a present for my older daughter, who likes it. They pretty much seem made for her.
Total cost, very roughly estimated: a little bit over $200. Oops.
Hey, that’s not too bad, especially for what you got!
Donatella is definitely turning her nose up at me. I participated in one split, for the lovely Taāif, and bought the Rogue sample set at (I think) 20% off.
Total for the quarter was $46.31. Now I have the new 30ml bottle of B683 in my Indigo Perfumery basket. My birthday is the first week of March, so Iām trying to figure out how early I can reasonably press that buy button. ?
If you use the retail calendar, it’s Valentine’s day. I would order soon, because in another week or so, it will be St. Patrick’s day. Then your present will be late!?
??
Thatās hilarious! I will sooo use this during the debate with the hubster. Thank you, lillyjo! ?
Debate? Surely you mean informational session?
Exactly.
Ahahahaha
Too clever, lillyjo!
How do you like the Rogue samples? Jasmin Antique caught my eye, and a few of the others sound interesting. Wondering if itās worth the set.
I like what Iāve tried so far. They definitely have a vintage feel, which I like. Jasmin Antique is a beautiful, rich soliflore which I can admire, but it wears me. The set is definitely worth getting!
I second that: I really enjoyed my set with the caveat that most tended masculine to my nose, but Jasmin Antique seem very feminine and I love it too.
Thanks for your impressions!
From the sounds of everyoneās shipping times, you may want to order now to make sure you get it by your birthday!
Another talking point. Thanks Apsara! You folks are awesome.
I participated in 2 splits for Le Lion and PdM Casilli. I thought that would be it, but December got me as usual. I bought a bottle of Anna Sui Fantasia Mermaid which I found for 7 dollars, so it almost doesn’t count. I
also got the BFMV bundle set from Dame Perfumery. The set came with a sample of Vanille Farfelue, which I almost bought on New Year’s eve, but I couldn’t get my coupon to work, so money saved there.
Sometimes, I love when coupons don’t work. That has saved me many times for unnecessary or compulsive purchases.
Though mostly funded by gifted money or sold household items before we moved, this is the most perfume Iāve ever purchased in a quarter.
Givenchy Organza Indecence
MFK Perfume Wardrobe
Dame Vanille Farfelue
Valentino Voce Viva travel spray
I donāt regret it and am plotting more sampling!
Oh, so sorry! Not sure how I ended up in a comment here!
Because we both like Vanille Farfelue!?
Right! I was drawn to your VF!
I might get some Dame samples later on this year. Right now, I am feeling “sampled out”.
Well, heck. I bought more than I realized. I’m going to say 9 bottles because I’ll count the Scent Trunk travel sprays as one bottle and the two decants and Delina travel spray as one bottle since they don’t add up to much money. The Lost Cherry travel spray does get counted as a bottle because it was $$.
People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo almost full 90ml $140 (from eBay)
Smell Bent Elf-Fulfilling Prophecy 50ml $36
Jorum Studio Psychoterratica I 15ml $50
YSL Opium EDT vintage 20ml in 50ml bottle $15
Tom Ford Lost Cherry travel spray 10ml $60
FÅ«m Fragrance Nerola 15ml $71.25
FÅ«m Fragrance Jurassic Flower 15ml $71.25
Scent Trunk Travel Sprays (5ml) x 4 (Nov 2019, July 2020, Nov 2020, Dec 2020) $54.40
Parfums de Marly Delina travel spray 10ml $26.68
Ormonde Jayne Ta’if 10ml decant $11.67
Prada Infusion de Mandarine 10ml decant $10.70
Good job on the vintage Opium! ??
Thanks!
You caved on the TF Lost Cherry travel spray, too! The first time I tried it was with you and smellysmello at Nordies. And I thought “meh. I don’t need this.” But the drydown grew on me until…there was a travel spray in the mail. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it this winter!
Ha, yes I did, and that was the only time I tried the perfume! I wrote it off due to the price but was tempted once they released a travel spray. And once Sephora gave me a 20% off code, it was the perfect time to buy it. I’ve also been really enjoying it this winter. I love the travel spray with the metallic cap too. Very nicely done.
Ditto to all of this except I bought somewhere else with a discount. Yay us!
Oooooooh, what’s the Psychoterratica like?
That one is kind of a clean powdery yet slightly metallic one that gives me play doh vibes too. I was lucky to try it via hajusuuri and then miraculously someone in one of the Facebook perfume groups put their bottle up for sale.

Wow! What a gorgeous list!
Divin Enfant is my favourite ELDO! That said Iv only used about a third of my 50ml bottle.
Great list!
What a beautiful, diverse list. How is theMiller Harris Velvet Cherry, please?
Great list, and Velvet Cherry caught my attention, too. Let us know what you think.
Gorgeous list!
Great haul! I really want that Rahat Loukhoum vapo tout noir set too.
Lucky you, getting those Miller Harris perfumes! They’re almost impossible to find even at the discounters here in the States.
Q4 i bought two full bottles
Jubilation 25, Amouage
L’Ć¢me perdue, Le Galion
That makes the total of bottles bought in 2020: 6
I also bought Eau des Merveilles, Bandit and Siberian Musk attar.
Not counting samples. But i dont think I ordered more than 20 samples this year. Thats near to nothing for a perfumnista ?
Haha, btw i suddenly remember posting here a few years ago about being underwhelmed by Amouage. And two years later….I have two bottles (Jubilation XXV is the other one). ?
5!!!!
Not 6. ???
Total of 5!
Though I am not sure if I bought Jubilation xxv in 2020 or end of 2019…. (It was heavily discounted…that I do remember ?
Did you get the current version of Jubilation 25? It’s floating around at the discounters, and I have been testing it via the body cream. I could see it becoming FB worthy.
Yup current version, bought it discounted as well (25 or 30 percent off).
I havent checked batch codes for a more precise year of production (dunno if
and how that even works for Amouages haha)
It smells mighty good to me. That’s all i need to know ?
Thanks. Lemming is running circles in his cage….
Haha ?
I dont know how the body cream is, but i get a cumin vibe from Jubilation 25. I thought i worth mentioning because i know some people cannot stand cumin.
Also, depsite some blogger saying there is no oakmoss in current formulation…the ingredient list that was enclosed with my bottle, says ……oakmoss.
And i was glad to read that because id swear I smelt oakmoss when I sampled it, but the note list on most sites/blogs do not mention oakmoss.
Jubilation 25 is gorgeous. I regret not trying it sooner.
I have bought comparatively little the past two years, but I did buy several minis this last quarter, which I count as one bottle altogether. Adding in the Wrappings set I blind bought makes two bottles in total. I am not counting the two bottles I gave to my husband for Christmas or the bottle of Ancient Resins body oil that I bought.
I don’t count Ancient Resins either…it’s a staple, like body lotion. And it’s a sleep aid.
I was pretty good until November, and then I was somewhat bad in November and December. As I’ve mentioned several times since the shutdown in Pennsylvania in March, Mom would have had to kill me if I’d ordered perfume online during that time, and there were a really limited number of places I went to that had fine fragrances on sale.
Sometime in the last few months, I got a bottle of Pacifica Island Vanilla at Whole Foods to replace the bottle I couldn’t find. I figured that once I got a duplicate, I’d find the original bottle I’d lost, and that’s what happened.
I was already ordering books and such on Amazon, and decided to see what sellers were offering by way of perfumes and colognes. That’s when I got two roll-ons of Pacifica Mediterranean Fig. I’d been sad it had been discontinued, and sad that I’d given mine away. Perhaps part of the reason it had been discontinued is that the “roller ball” part doesn’t work very well, but that’s not the fault of the seller. The items were new.
My other purchases from Amazon included a travel-size of Atelier Cologne Osmanthus Love. I’ve noted here that, sadly, it is not a love for me. That will likely go on a swap pile for when I have the energy (or “spoons”) to swap with people.
Another blind buy was JD (Jeffrey Dame) Labdanum Doux. Fortunately, that’s a strong “like” for me. It came with samples, so a bottle of Mimosa Mixte was not a blind buy. That one’s a “love.” I may have gotten other perfumes and colognes from Amazon in November and December, but I’m darned if I can remember right now.
In mid-December, I ventured into the Sephora near me. I got a couple of things that were not fine fragrances (lip balm and face cream), a discovery set of Jo Malone samples and a discovery set of 7 Virtues fragrances. I discovered when I got home that I already had the exact same 7 Virtues box of samples. I’ll most likely return that duplicate box soon.
I think that’s it, but I’ll probably remember other things. I’m not counting lotions and soaps, since they have functions other than being fragrant. (lol)
It’s a good thing this isn’t a poll that counts books and e-books, because I’ve gotten a *lot* of those.
I like that Mimosa Mixte, too! A sample was included with my order of Vanille Farfelue.
I also liked that one!
I’m in good company, then. š The vanilla was another one I’d like to sample someday. Maybe when things get back closer to “normal,” we can swap JD samples around. I certainly don’t need to own two samples each of the Musc neutre and Singularity Woman.
Could you describe your impression of Labdanum Doux? Iām curious about it.
I saw the question, and haven’t forgotten you. I had to rearrange when a couple of my perfume storage boxes broke. As soon as I find the Jeffrey Dame bottles, I’ll try to get back to you with a real answer. From what I remember, sweet but not too sweet resin, strong enough to be noticeable but not overpowering.
I found the bottles. I’ll revise my answer to “quite sweet, and more floral than I remembered.”
Someone else who uses the term “spoons”! I picked it up from an acquaintance some years ago.
If I remember right, the term comes out of the disability community. It often refers to how much physical energy someone has, and/or how much someone with chronic pain can accomplish on a given day, depending on how the person feels.
I don’t have chronic pain on a clinical level like that, although I do have my bad back days. I noticed you’d mentioned having some back pain recently. I can certainly empathize with that. (*gentle hugs*)
In my case, I was thinking of having the mental energy necessary to get things together, pack them, and get to the post office, especially the post office step in that process.
Even going into the post office is kind of stressful for me these days. But I think a lot of people have felt a drain on their mental and emotional energy over this past year or so.
I didn’t buy any bottles but I did throw some money at the two Lush limited-edition solids, Fresh As and Frangipani, and a couple of others I didn’t have, Smuggler’s Soul and Dirty, just because (and also to get free shipping, we’ve all done it, don’t lie).
So $65 CAD for the quarter, tax included. And my New Year’s resolution is to buy nothing, because I have enough and then some. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll probably see about passing on some little-used scents in the next Swapmeet.
Always nice posting after Bob!
4th quarter purchases were 1) Amouage Discovery set
2) Travel spray of FM Lys Mediterranee – the FMs have become so expensive and I always liked this one. Am also worried that FM will go the way of SL, where the black box fragrances don’t resemble their earlier counterparts at all.
3) Alaia 30 ml EDP. I actually bought it sometime during the year, but forgot to count it earlier.
Strictly for my record keeping: Money spent on all perfume related purchases: $ 1436 for the year. More than the budgeted $100 a month. HOWEVER, I mostly kept to my “no blind buys” rule (though I was sorely tempted by Musc Tonkin in extrait form) and I’m going to attempt a six month no-buy. Will see what I have to confess on April 1st.
I love Lys Med and the FM fragrances, they are just getting too expensive. The travel sets used to be relatively affordable š It would be better if you could mix and match within the set of 3.
Well, hermit year is over, and at least my hermit cave smelled good. Dearest Donatella, I now confess my list of purchases for the quarter, but seriously, do any of them count under the circumstances? If nobody else smells a perfume, does it exist? (well sure, but do I have to count it???)
There were some gifts to self which of course donāt count:
ā¢ Guerlain Iris Torrefie (Xmas)
ā¢ Scents of Wood subscription (birthday)
ā¢ Shiseido Nombre Noir (belated retirement gift)
There were some miniās, which Donatella would need her glasses to see, and we know she wonāt put them on in public, so they remain invisible:
ā¢ Hans Hendley Blood Cedar
ā¢ Tom Ford Black Orchid Parfum
There were some replacements which absolutely donāt count. All my 15ml Demeters evaporated. Note to self, donāt buy those plastic 15ml things, stick to glass bottles:
ā¢ Demeter Silvery Tip Pekoe, Mahogany, Black Russian, Thunderstorm
And the rest:
ā¢ Eris Perfumes Mx
ā¢ Auphorie Tenmoku I
ā¢ Chanel Coco Mad Lāeau Privee
ā¢ Chanel Gabrielle Essence
ā¢ Shiseido Feminite du Bois Eau Timide
ā¢ DSH Muresque
ā¢ Carthusia Mediterraneo (how did I never have a FB of this before??)
ā¢ Carthusia Via Camerelle
ā¢ Estee Lauder Tuscany Per Donna
And a few more which are lost in the fog of the US postal system. Iām not counting them til they actually show up.
I also swapped, sold, gave away (or threw away) 10 FBās and 6 miniās (looking at you, Demeter). So +9 FBs ā 10 FBsā¦ well! -1 for the quarter! Who knew!
Where did you find a mini of Black Orchid Parfum?
Sephora sells a 10ml travel spray.
Great list and love your perfumath!
Ooooh, your hermit cave must smell amazing!
So were those Demeters re-buys? I have been considering Black Russian – but they are not as cheap from South Africa so Iām stalling on it!
Yes, all the Demeters were replacements, grrr. I do quite like Black Russian, even though it’s sweeter than my usual taste.
Well you must have enjoyed them to be willing to replace! I did try some Demeters once when I was travelling but none of the ones I tried made too much of an impression on me. Not surprising as the range is huge.
Re replacements: I bought another Snow Fairy from Lush as my last one started leaking when I was away and I had to leave it behind. The stuff is so potent I will probably never even use a whole 10mls, however, it only comes in 200mls . So I have bought in total nearly 400mls of Snow Fairy…that’s probably enough to kill a whole fairy population…
lol, poor fairies!
I have several other Demeters that I like: Honeysuckle, Gingerale, Black Ginger, and This Is Not A Pipe (glad I didn’t buy those in the 15ml plastic containers). The scents don’t last long but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
It depends on how ephemeral they are. I have scent eating skin so some scents almost vanish on contact and that can be a bit frustrating.
Oh, I adored Tuscany Per Donna when I was a broke college student. I always did the walk-by sprays when I could.
Kept to my “no buy” rule for most of the year, but December is my birthday month and Christmas so it is hard to resist the offerings. Only bought one–less that $35 for a gift set of Wrappings with small bottle and lotion. I think that all would agree it’s free according to perfume math. I am enjoying it, so good at any price.
Not only free – you are in perfume credit for showing such restraint ?
I have bought a lot of samples over the last few months – I’ve done the rounds of The Perfumed Court, Surrender to Chance and Luckyscent. I have consequently added a few things to my buy list, but I didn’t actually buy any bottles in the last quarter
This has been my year of least purchases since I got really serious about perfume 10 years ago. I have bought four new perfumes, one BUB and one bottle for nostalgia’s sake of something I had years ago.
But…. I expect the next quarter to be a bit different. There’s a lot of pent up demand on my buy list š
Started October slowly but November wasn’t downfall, slowed in December thank god
Vintage White Linen edt 40/50ml+ 30ml bottles Ā£11.50
Burberry My Burberry Black Parfum 100ml Ā£32
Gal Rose Rosa extrait 15ml Ā£6
Chabaud Lait ConcentrĆ© edt 30ml Ā£28 (Thank you to Karina for introducing me to this house)
Caron Infini parfum de toilette 120ml Ā£33
Diptyque Eau des Sens edt Ā£41.45
Aqua Allegoria Rosa Magnifica edt 75ml Ā£23 (my favorite purchase this is a gem and so long lasting)
Outremer Vanille edt 50ml Ā£13.50
Robert Piguet Visa extrait 50ml Ā£36
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille edp 100ml Ā£39.94 (my best price purchase)
Yves Rocher Fleur de NoĆ«l edt 50ml Ā£15 (it seems pricey after the Tom Ford)
Yves Rocher Iris Noir edp 50ml Ā£25
Reminiscence Tonka edt 100ml Ā£30
Vintage Stella 100ml Ā£35.85
Historiae Bouquet du Trianon edt 90/100ml Ā£12.20 (my second favourite purchase, if you come across it, buy it is my advice)
Such a great list!
My Burberry Black is really good!
One more proof we’re scent twins?, I had tried it at the airport and it made the flight more enjoyable, the patchouli reminds me of Miss Dior le Parfum. I will travel to France in the spring, fingers crossed, and can send you a decant from there, it’s such a big bottle.
Thanks Aurora, but no need. I have plenty of samples I got from Sephora pre-lockdown. Now that you mention it, I can smell the Le Parfum similarity.
Wow – good score on the Tom Ford. I have Chabaudās Lait et Biscuit and revel in its simplicity! What is Lait Concentre like?
Insanely realistic, I enjoy it but of course it’s very linear. Lait de Biscuit is very good too, I tested it.
Thanks for letting me know!
As always, I am stunned by your ability to find great scents at great prices. Lovely list!
Thank you Koyel, all were love, sometimes acquired after using decants, and I’ve been admiring your restraint.
Wow, your list is impressive! Those prices are mind boggling in a good way.
? There were amazing deals in November for sure.
I spent $100-on a travel size kilian love dont be shy, and a tester of serge lumens fleur d’oranger from fragrancenet (hoping for a white label instead of the reformulation), but they were both bought with gift money, so I guess that means they were free ?
Thatās exactly what it means!
Nicely done!
I must have javascript disabled, so no voting for me.
I bought myself a travel set of Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus for Christmas. Ordered it the 6th, it showed up the 27th. I haven’t opened it; I’m being absurdly indecisive. On the other hand, I’m suddenly very fond of the OJ Frangipani I purchased a couple of years ago.
Ah! Pixel’s list reminded me that I bought a new bottle of Demeter Dandelion. So cheap it’s practically free.
1) I bought the following:
Laura Mercier Ambre Vanilla & Creme Brulee – 17.99 each
Super Size Fresh Cream (for my sister) $50
Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere scent sets (for my sister) $40 x2
Joy Eau de Parfum (Patou) – $65
Dossier Ambery Saffron ( a close enough dupe of Baccarrat 540) $38
Baccarat 540 itself: decant sample was $50!
Candles a plenty! 4 HomeWorx candles on sale from Ulta for $12.50 each.
2) I am tempted to buy a fb of the 540 since needless markup has a discount offer! ($50 off 200!)
3) I will not include all the purchases made for the refurbishment of the house or the garden! WHEW.
I’ve been waiting for SDV from Neiman Marcus since November. With the $50 off coupon. Really tempted to cancel, since I get updates every once in awhile that it is going to be later and later. And later. I wish I had just ordered at BG or not at all and waited.
My 2 cents and I usually enable!
Thatās odd, as I also ordered SDV with the $50 coupon and got a message it wouldnāt ship until late January, then it magically appeared on my porch last week!
Sweet! Flowerbomb was my surprise today. November, also, but from Sephora. I haven’t had luck with Neiman’s. I’m ok with waiting if I know for sure it will eventually arrive.
We have such similar taste!
Iām sure it will arrive, when you least expect it. š
UUUUGGGGH.
My experiences with both Bloomies and NM has been good but also my purchases from them have been once in a blue moon! I am gonna think on it for one more day!
And given everything I am prone to forgiving the postal delay.
I bought for myself two purse sprays – Nirvana French Grey and CK Women from the checkout line at Nordstrom Rack. They were so cheap.
I bought for my husband to give to me a Hermes travel set of 4 purse sprays – Caleche, Osmanthe Yunnan, Rhubarbe Eclarte, and Jardin Sur le Nil.
So, doot doot perfume math….1 bottle!
Last quarter of 2020 was a naughty (but nice!) quarter.
– Gallivant Bukhara, because it was love at first sniff
– Coco EDP backup, because of reformulation panic and I love it so much
– Coco EDT because something Aurelia said (and I agree and donāt regret it)
– No 5 Parfum because I just had to
– Mitsouko Extrait because it was 30% off and Mitsouko is my top 3 desert island scents
Mitsouko extrait! (swoon).
Swoon indeed! And i got Coco edt because of something YOU said. No idea who Aurelia is and why she popped into my head ??āāļø
LOL
and it feels Good to know you enjoy the edt, that’s how I fell in love with Coco so I have a soft spot for it, all the Cocos are good and worth FB.
That is a very well-curated list. I think the value you got was fabulous. Was the Coco NIB?
Thank you! What does NIB stand for?
New in box, I believe.
thanks lillyjo and in that case, yes.
Thanks, lillyjo. I clearly spend too much time on Ebay!
For the second quarter in a row, I bought no perfume. Half a year to go before the no-buy is over. I have noticed holes in my collection that I want to fill (not enough incense! No tuberose? Whaaa?), but that can happen later.
I have been making a list of things to try, and apparently all I want to try is from perfumers like DSH and other independents, so thatās something to focus on in the future.
Congrats on the discipline!
No tuberose, you say? I have a travel spray + body lotion set of Madonna Truth or Dare (tuberose/BWF bomb) that needs a more loving home. If you’re in the conUS, would you like those? If so, please send me an email at kobhatta at gmail.
Thatās super sweet, but Iāve never smelled it and know itās a discontinued beauty with a lot of fans. Do you want to offer it as a freebie first and if no one takes it, then Iāll gladly take it?
Sure š
Not sure there is such a thing as enough incense perfume, IMO.
There is no such thing as enough incense perfume, I confirm. š
I appear to have gone up a level from my usual – landed in the 5 to 9 bubble this time. I acquired three bottles under 20 mls, and counted them as FBs mostly because 2 of the three were extraits and it was just easier counting, plus one of the two 50ml bottles ordered last quarter was part of a gift set that also included soaps and dusting powder. And I counted one scented candle that wasn’t a gift for anyone as part of the overall number. Whoof. I keep saying “gee, my collection must be complete NOW”, but that doesn’t seem to stop me from finding new things to covet. š
Sounds like you rounded up, unlike a lot of who round down during this poll!
Hey!
I admit I usually round down, but as JalapeƱo notes below, Paracelsus is something extra special and I didnāt want the tiny bottle to feel slighted. And I got the same size tiny bottle of Cuir Beurre at the same time, so I kind of had to count that the same way as Paracelsus. And if I was counting those two 10 ml bottles as one each, the 14 ml bottle of Memoirs of a Trespasser pretty much had to be counted as one also. See? I was trapped. ?
I’ve learned to never say “Complete”, because them something like Paracelsus will find its way to me. Still thinking about the travel size, but sitting on my hands for now.
It really is special. I hope you find a way to justify at least the travel spray – I like having an Obsession Buddy. š
Oooooops. Just noticed the typo up above… “then”, not “them”!
Ik don’t seem to be able to vote this time, never mind. I only got one bottle: Histoires des Parfums’ 1804, George Sand, the pineapple one. I like it very much. Already contemplating my next purchase ?
I had to use a different web browser to vote. My default is Opera, and the poll won’t work in it. But it shows up fine in Firefox.
I use Safari, and I had to click on the words next to the bubble to get the bubble to fill in. If thatās any help.
Great choice! I love that one and would have bought it in the Sephora sale, if Sephora still carried the line. I purchased my sample set of HdP from them a few years back but now the line isnāt there ā at least in the U.S. but anyway, 1804 is delicious and is at the top of my ārealistic buyā list.
All my perfume buying was in the first half of this year, except that I did get myself one holiday gift… a travel spray of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille with a Sephora coupon, in the $50 range. One of the only ones I’ve ever purchased according to The Ideal Process (drain a decant, sit on it, get the bottle at discount once I’m sure), and I do love it, and yet I still sort of resent that old Tom got me.
1. Angel gift set. Free! Points! Came w/ gwp mini and samples which I’ve used already.
2. Romance. 1 oz. $50ish?
3. Spiriteuse Double Vanilla. FB. $200. (Will it arrive?)
4. Lost Cherry travel spray. $40.
5. Love, Don’t Be Shy travel spray$40.
6. Flowerbomb travel set. $30.
7. Paestum Rose. FB. Can’t remember the price, but over $100.
8. Miami Duppy. Can’t remember! I think $50ish?
9. No samples.
Total=$460! Ouch!
I’m noticing my perfumes are my comfort perfumes from days of yore. And some lovelies of old match current lotions and soaps(don’t get me started).
Glad I peeked at this. I almost blind bought Le Lion last night! I need resolutions.?
Your perfume dollars went quite a way!
The list makes me feel gluttonous. Thanks for soothing the eye opening.
I bought SDV from the Neiman Marcus $50 off coupon sale as mentioned above in November, which was supposedly on backorder but showed up last week. I also got Lost Cherry at the Sephora sale, a few BDKs, some 4160 Tuesdays Clouds parfum & edp, and a few great deals on ebay: Odin Tanoke 07, Amouage Love Blossom and Les IndƩmodables Vanille Havane. I am now on a no-buy for 2021.
Which BDKs did you go for? I’ve only smelled the tuberose which was very nice!
I found some testers really cheap on Fragrancebuy.ca, so I got the Tuberose, Gris Charnel, Rouge Smoking, Nuit de Sable and Wood Jasmine.
Fabulous! They are a bit crazy expensive over here. Can I ask which are your favourites?
Right now, the Wood Jasmine, but I just received them yesterday so I havenāt given any of them a full wearing, just test spritzes. Will report more in depth as I wear each one. š
Looking forward to the reports!
I went a little BDK crazy myself this quarter and have a lot of overlap with you: Gris Charnal, Nuit de Sable, Wood Jasmin, but then my other was Tabac Rose. I don’t like tuberose and Rouge Smoking smelled exactly like root beer to me. Lol. But I am really enjoying these four a lot.
Two bottles this time. Getting better!
1. Clinique Wrappings gift set, 20mL with lotion
2. Clinique Wrappings gift set, 20mL with lotion
Yep, I did get a BUB after all. But I really do enjoy the lotion in the summertime. It has a bit of a cooling effect on my shins.
Total = $80.18. The first set was full price. The discount code didn’t work for the second one, so I waited until I saw that it was 40% off. Not gonna do a year end total!
No perfume related resolutions for me this year, but I will be trying to use up and thunk a few more samples in 2021.
You’re the Wrappings queen?
Just making sure that I don’t run out!
I’m glad you got Wrappings! It’s such a wonderful perfume! I wish they still made the soap. It was really great-smelling.
I found Aromatics Elixir in soap, the entire bathroom smells wonderful!
I went on a bit of a Lush binge: Avocado Co-wash; Calacas; Snow Fairy (a re-purchase as my last bottle started leaking on a trip and I had to leave it behind) and Pansy. I also got Aramis’ Tobacco Reserve (with a discount but not as deeply discounted as in the USA). And then I followed up these relatively modest ones with a bottle of Nasomatto’s Baraonda which I did find discounted online….
I think that looks much better as a paragraph than as a vertical list š š
Lol at paragraph instead ofvertical list.
And thatās why I went with the paragraph as well ?
I bought Bitter Peach, with a great discount and $ back from a cashback site, so about $250 in the end. I also got Eau des Baux which I’d like to split, I will never get through the giant bottle, and a bottle of Kiehl’s Musk. The last thing I bought was a bottle of Narciso (the white cube one). All told, I spent about $400 for the quarter. I’m down for the year, because I bought nothing Jan-July, and only two bottles in September. I didn’t buy much else this year, either, “trends” in my financial tracker software are all green. I will make up for it when it’s safe to go back to Paris, because I have a list of stores I want to visit and a long list of things I want to sniff.
Wow, congrats on that Bitter Peach deal! Iāve been putting off smelling it because $$$$.
It’s not deprivation – it’s the “I’m saving to go to Paris” fund…
Oh I wish I could figure out such a deal for Bitter Peach. I really like it and am telling myself I don’t. Haha.
No full bottles only some samples, minis, decants.
Just one – Fat Electrician. But since it was on Black Friday, it barely counts!
Fat Electrician is the only vetiver I have in full bottle form. It’s a good one!
I bought 1 FB this quarter: Chanel Le Lion.
I also bought 4 decants ( Iris TorrƩfiƩ, Initio Side Effect, Le Lion and Safran Troublant).
My total for 2020 was 9 bottles: SDV (a portion of which I split), Rose de Petra (my second one, partially split as well), Rahele, Trayee (2 x 15 mL, split with Deva), Bombay Bling (2x 15 mL set), Carnal Flower EdP, Carnal Flower body oil, HermĆØs Eau des Merveilles Bleue and Le Lion.
Iām plotting buying LāAttesa as we speak ?
Dang, did I miss a Rose de Petra split?? Clearly I haven’t been paying enough attention.
Your list sounds great. I hope you do get l’Attesa. I am still contemplating that purchase. One of these days, I will cave.
Black Friday really got to me! Hiram Green had a wonderful sale and I fell for it – three bottles (Moon Bloom, Voyage and Vivacious)
A few weeks prior, Areej le Dore had a new collection; I ended up buying Santal Galore and Agar de Noir.
I also decided to progress some more in my longstanding āto buyā list: managed to get my hands on Rania J Ambre Loup, DSH Cimabue and Vintage Hermes 24 Faubourg.
I now have stopped buying any perfume for the time being. Iāve been really good these past 5 days – I really feel like this coming quarter will be different (no itās not who am I kidding)
Niche and a well-chosen vintage! What a great list. Is Santal Galore living up to your expectations? I bet it’s gone from the market.
Santal Galore is really wonderful. And it lasts for ages… a lovely drydown. Smokey sandalwood magic ?
Yep, itās gone and resale prices are really up there (stratosphere high) on ebay.
Now, Iām seeing all the other comments and itās very Le Lion – enabling! And Kafka will soon review it! The start of a new lemming I fear!.
Hi all, I was very bad this year. I purchased Reminiscence Rem ($53.94), Guerlain’s Shalimar Souffle Intense ($33.79), Vintage Patou’s Sublime ($45), Vintage Chanel’s Coco ($19), Vintage RL’s Safari ($30), Vintage EL Youth Dew Bath oil ($20), YSL’s vintage Opium ($60) for a grand total of $261.73
Ouch. šÆ
Those are fabulous – spritz away those regrets with wonderful Safari!
I am so glad that I nabbed them, but I need to cool it for 2021! Trying to be on my best behavior….. We’ll see how it goes.
Well done, SmokeyToes!
Wow, you grabbed some goodies this quarter!
I am very fortunate! These were all bottles from Gaia’s collection. I’m happy to have a little memento of her. š
How do you like your vintage Sublime? I bought some but donāt like it, I guess my memory is faulty as I donāt think the perfume is off. If you want more or anyone else does, let me know, Iāll send it to you!
I adore the Sublime, it never fails to please.
I’d be happy to take it off your hands, but I don’t want to be greedy, I already have a bottle. If someone else wants it, I’ll defer to them. š
For those who aren’t familiar with Sublime, The Non-Blonde has a gorgeous review of it.
Send me your address, you can reach me at my user name at me dot com.
You got great prices though!! I always buy vintage Opium if I see it, to be honest. ?
I adore the vintage, it really is ‘thick’ and rich.
Every time I wear it, I’m reminded of my coworker from years ago, tall 5′ 10″, statuesque redhead with green eyes. It’s almost as though Opium was created, just for her.
Oh, but these are wonderful choices and possibly only one chance to find (vintages). Enjoy and don’t feel bad!
I just can’t bring myself to tot it all up. I am in the 15+ bottle range for this quarter, though there were two bundles of thrift finds that were in the $9 – $12 each range. I mentioned elsewhere that I want focus on the independent and the current for 2021. In fact I have some Aftelier samples on the way – Violet Ambrosia and Antique Ambergris. On a funny note, while I was attempting stop my quest for Ebay cheapies, I started looking at other campy items on Ebay and ended up with a couple vintage jigsaw puzzles. I pulled my self back from the brink….
I would love to see your list – you don’t have to include prices!
Twist my arm, SP! š Takes deep breath:
Vintage Nature Scents Ambergris Body oil .25
Vintage EL Cinnabar 50% 1.7
Vintage Jean D’Albret Ecusson epd
“Mystery Vintage” which turned out to be reformulated Heaven Scent
Etienne Aigner Explosive
Vintage-ish Courreges Empreinte edp
Vintage English Leather (OK, it was $2.95)
White Diamonds
Avon Everafter
Luna Mystique
Chamade edt tester 50ml
L’Heure Bleue edt tester 50ml
Le Participe Passe .25 travel spray – the Frag’net one
Tresor La Nuit .25 travel spray, Frag’net
Jubilation 24 body cream@$128.04 and Lyric hand lotion@$55.24- this seemed like a better way to sample, especially in drying Winter
EL Knowing – new, found at TJX – couldn’t resist
Adam Levine Woman – $13 at TJX (someone NST’er gets an Enabler button for this – maybe more than one of you)
6 or 8 fancy samples from LuckyScent, including Rose de Petra, Kohl de Bahrein, Lyric, Hiram Green Hyde and Baque
Vintage minis of Anne Klein and Grand Amour
Violet Ambrosia is wending its way to me right now!
I took advantage of TRNP sale and ended up with bottles of Jacques (natural take on Shalimar), Cocobolo (on her website it was described as a scent of money – not quite sure what that is supposed to mean, but it is somewhat gourmandish), and Raven(name here is completely misleading – this is a fresh and green rose, which I was surprised I liked). Also got a travel spray of Bitter Sweet, which is an amazing orange chocolate and dark coffee fragrance.
Really impressed with TRNP and enjoyed reading other people’s posts.
I really want that Bittersweet, sounds yummy.
I think you might really like it.
I signed up for her newsletter but have never received anything, how are you getting notices of her sales?
I did not. I think she posts on Instagram. I just follow discussions abt her on basenotes.
A day late and many dollars lighter….
I don’t want to admit to them all but I’m looking at it like so: my coffee and food (eating out) expenditures have been so light this year that I made up for it in perfume. Sadly I can’t claim many of them were gotten for good prices as in my “hunting for vintage days” but there are very few I regret buying. Donatello’s knows all regardless but I easily bought over 10. ?
22 FBs in Q4. 25% of my entire collection.
Iām not listing or tallying them up. Itās a completely self-indulgent, not cheap list.
My only regret? The absolute cheapest, a blind buy, maybe $20, purchased after reading an article on Fragrantica.

I need a cocktail after reading your list!
I’m impressed, and I wish I’d been more careful about noting the dates over the years. Did you have a “desert island” favorite among the collection?

125 Parfums De Marly Pegasus Exclusif Eau De Parfum Parfum De Marly $ 375.00 (Mon) Oct 19 – 2020
I behaved ok during these trying times.
* A 100 ml CK Eternity in the original formula in the square splash bottle with the stopper. And the juice is still good. I’ve been looking for a bottle of this exact beauty for (not kidding) at least 20 years since I emptied my first bottle and found that the scent had been reformulated when I tried to replace it.
* 50 ml of Lolita Lempicka Lolitaland. I blind bought this and regret it. It’s ok but that’s it.
* Pure perfume of L de Lempicka – an online auction find for a steal.
* 100 ml of Clementine California from Atelier cologne, on sale.
* 30 ml and 100 ml of Jo Malone Mimosa Cardamom. I got the 30 ml in early November and wore it so much that I had to get a big backup bottle asap. It’s a new love for me.
* 30 ml of both Delizia di marshmallows and Praline au caramel from Kyse.
* 15 ml of White Queen and 30 ml of Over the chocolate shop, both from 1460 Tuesdays when they had the before Brexit sale.
God! I forgot that I also bought a half full bottle of Frederic Malle Portrait of a lady.
Good find!!!
It’s wonderful you were able to find your Eternity. I remember that bottle.
Thank you! Yes, it made me very happy.
The original Eternity was beautiful. I remember that bottle…
I loved Escape and Blue also. CK really had a beautiful variety of perfumes back in the day.
I had the first CK perfume and boy was that a powerhouse and super sexy. Probably too much for my 14 year old self!
Blue? Which one is that?
Four bottles and one decant.
50 ml bottle Diptyque Eau Duelle
Half bottle of Margiela Tea Escape
50 ml bottle Valentino Uomo Intense
Lush Let the good times roll body spray
and
10 ml Tom Ford Ombre Leather decant
I got caught up in a flurry of recommendations for Adam Levine Woman and bought a practically free bottle on eBay. It’s ok but I have a couple things that are too similar so I gave the AL to my mother, who loves it.
What’s the AL like, A?
I did too, but have not really had a chance to test it.
I often forget what I bought and when. Looks like 4Q was a bottle of Shalimar body lotion and mini of YSL Cinema, as well as a 50 ml tester of Chamade EdT. All from discounter, so total was under $100.
Was supposed to be using samples instead of buying in 2020 but that didnāt work out. I didnāt buy much, and the Shalimar Eau de Cologne was the most frequently worn.
I went overboard this last quarter and am ashamed at my lack of self control now that I see it all written down and admit to my lie of claiming 5-9 purchases. In my defense, most were not high-value and a couple were second-hand, but still it is the shame of not sticking to the plan. Plus the Replica and Kilian were travel sprays, both of which found new homes as they were awful blind buys.
Ellis Brooklyn – Myth
Ex Nihilo – Sweet Morphine
Atelier – Lemon Island
Philosophy – Summer Moments
Benetton United – Live Free
Laura Mercier – Creme Brulee
Sofia Vergara – Tempting Paradise
Regime des Fleurs – Vines
Vilhelm – Basilico & Felini
Replica – Bubble Bath
l’Occitane – Verbena Mandarin
Kilian – Bad Boys
What did you think of the Verbena Mandarin, if you donāt mind?
To my nose it’s an insipid version of Replica Jazz Club, but lots of people love Adam Levine Woman. My mom loves it but she can’t smell it on herself so she sprays it on every time she thinks about it and I can smell it as soon as I walk in her house lol.
After a restrained rest of the year (Winter Palace as part of hajusuuriās split, plus a travel spray of By Rosie Janeās Madie), I succumbed. My five bottles for the fourth quarter:
Shalimar EDP 30 ml
Calyx EDP 75 ml
Aromatics Elixir Perfume Spray 100 ml
Chanel No. 5 parfum 7.5 ml
Wrappings gift set (25 ml spray + lotion)
The first four were in the Sephora sale, and the last was thanks to Robinās lemming. I donāt regret any of them (in fact am loving all but the AE, which I currently classify as interesting and chameleonic), but this year was probably my last hurrah as a Sephora Rouge ā Iām wearing almost no color cosmetics any longer, and my skincare is almost entirely from Clarins. Clarins does a better discount in their Friends/Family sale than Sephora offers ā with no minimum annual spend to keep āstatusā ā so there is no reason to keep that status going. (Plus hefty pay cut, ouch.)
Five chance to smell fabulous!
You might want to check your Sephora account. They have been continuing Rouge level in 2021 if you reached it for 2020.
Ulta has done the same. I donāt think it was formally announced, but itās been covered on a couple of makeup blogs I follow.
