It's Tuesday, plus the fifth day of Christmas and the fourth day of Kwanzaa. RIP Pierre Cardin. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette. Tea at the moment is a blend of Assam from Upton and Numi Golden Chai.
Reminder: 1/1 is New Years Day...Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Adios, 2020. Wear a perfume that will bring you good luck in 2021.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the 12 Days of Christmas teapot appears to no longer be on the market, and I don't know who made it.
RIP Pierre
Tea is Persian earl grey and then jasmine green tea
Shalimar PI
I smell so good today..perfect for this weather outside! I good pick me up.
Thrift OTD are these pants I picked up for nothing https://images.app.goo.gl/ufn97FGNC8GGbGD8A and a brown sweater.
You smell great and look fabulous.
thank you!
Those pants are so cute! And you smell marvelous!
I have been thinking about blind buying the new Shalimar flanker but I just can’t pull the trigger.
I read reviews and one thing that scares me is the mention of a harsh detergent ? opening.
Thank you!
I really need you to be my personal shopper.
I’ll take the spot in line right after you.
But I only like to shop at thrift…so that is not everyones cup of tea
Thrift is my cup of tea! The vintage clothes in thrift and consignment shops are not just less expensive, but also higher quality, in both fabric and construction. I’d much rather shop there than at Macy’s or Ann Taylor.
Yes please – thrift!
Sassy pants! I love the outfit.
Samarinda for me today.
You smell great. I really love that one.
Agree! You smell great.
Ah, maybe I will wear that tomorrow.
Good morning all, my SOTD is Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir, dusty truffles, patchouli, oud, and roses.
Very sleepy today, I may lay in bed and read (and nap).
I fully endorse your plan for the day. Remember to keep something to drink (and maybe nibble) on the nightstand, so’s you don’t have to get out of bed too often.
That is a great plan, I have M & Ms, tea, water, and perhaps I should get Gluten Free cookies. I don’t want to expend too much energy today.
I think I’m just way too run down and my body is telling me to rest. I’ve been in bed asleep by 9:30 every night for the past week.
You smell great!
I bought that scent but then gave it away
Thank you! I almost gave this away and then kept it, I’m so glad that I did!
I purchased NdN, Purple Patchouli, Moss Breches, and Oud Wood, just after their release; they are my favorites from TF private blend line. Everything else is just ‘meh’ to me, $$ saved that’s for sure!
Noir de Noir is the one that showed me I could like patchouli – at least in some perfumes.
Yes, absolutely! It’s definitely a gateway patchouli for sure!
I love just plain patchouli oil, but patchouli smells like a woody vanilla on me and I have a 30 year old aged patchouli oil, so it’s decidedly more mellow on my skin.
That sounds like a fantastic plan.
Good for you; listening to your body when it needs to rest is th right thing to do. Enjoy your quiet day! ?
I have a tiny dab of N de N that was sent to me. Tempting to get the travel spray.
I keep considering getting the travel spray of N de N. Then I think about all the other perfume bottles I have, and decide not to. It sure is a pretty scent, though.
It’s time for Diptyque Oud Palao for me today, and here’s a kinda eerie photo of it that I took few days ago during a walk in the forest.
I finally started writing my Yearly Review for Chemist in the Bottle, I promise to post it before New Year’s Eve!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYb-qgBo5m/
I don’t think it’s eerie at all – I found it quite lovely. Also impressed that you take full bottles of perfume with you while walking. 🙂
I only do that when I intend to take some photos outdoors.
Strikes me as eerie – and beautiful – but then I’m one of those ‘dark romantics’ that find the eerie to be beautiful generally 😀
Glad you liked it.
That’s a beautiful picture!
I don’t know if I find your picture eerie, but I certainly think it’s a gorgeous picture!
Beautiful photo. Not at all eerie to me. Love the contrast between dark and light in it.
Hermès “Ambre Narguilé” for a cold (by our standards), grey, windy day. I’m supposed to be shopping for a new car but I can’t be arsed. Feeling generally demotivated at the moment. Don’t want to do anything and unhappy at doing nothing.
Nice to hear from you! How has the Brexit situation affected your residency in Spain, does the deal allow you to still access health care? Oh and I hate shopping for cars too. 🙂
Hi cazaubon! As an Irish citizen I am not affected, not as regards Spain anyway. I lived a long time in the UK so my pension is in what may become a clown currency, but we’ll see. Not much I can do about it anyway. :^D
Ah, wonderful, I didn’t realize you were Irish, assumed you were British. That is at least positive, despite the currency situation with your pension. I hope the pound holds up for you.
Yes, in this part of the world the Irtish passport is now the best to have; AFAIK the only one with full travel and work rights in both the UK and the EU.
Also – speaking of relocation fun & sorry if this is The Wrong Question – aren’t you meant to be somewhere else this time of the year, San Diego or Vancouver IIRC?
I am currently in San Diego for the winter. 🙂
Ah, cool, I thought you were stuck in Montreal, my misunderstanding. :^)
I can identify with that mood!
Thankfully we don’t get much in the way of grey skies here. Where I grew up, it could rain for a month, at any time of the year. ;^)
Cars can wait. I hope you find something to do that is more in tune with your mood. You smell great!
Thanks sistine, I like this scent a lot, even if it now makes me think of Kanuka and her apple pie. :^D
Oh yes, that feeling. The Wilco song You Satellite has the great line “Don’t want to go and I don’t want to stay”.
Thanks AnnieA,
I got Wilco confused with Tasmin Archer – Sleeping Satellite – and was puzzled for a moment, her mood is far too mellow and regretful. I am just being a grumpy brat. :^)
I totally understand that feeling. Your way of expressing it is more polite than mine.
FREEBIE
On the fifth day of Christmas I’m offering for free
5 ml of Spring
This is a 5 ml decant of Dasein Spring purchased from Olfactif. It is in a very nice opaque metallic twist-up spray vial. Because it is opaque (and I have no idea how to take it apart) I cannot see the actual level of the perfume inside, but it should contain most of the original 5 ml, as it have only used a few sprays. It came without any label on it to indicate the fragrance, so I have placed a label on it. I do not know how well it will stick.
For anyone unfamiliar with this scent–it is NOT a fresh, light, floral girly take on spring, i.e., not a typical “spring floral”. It is supposed to have rose and violet in it, but my nose does not pick them out. It is dominated by the vetiver. I found it interesting, but not something I particularly wanted to wear, so it is up for grabs.
Spring was discontinued several years ago, and in fact Dasein is closing down, so there will be no more of this perfume made. If you have been wanting this perfume but could not locate any to purchase, I would be happy to send this one to you.
To claim, contact me at the email address associated with my gravatar.
I’m sorry to hear they’re shutting down – I really like Winter.
I don’t know if you can still find it anywhere. Winter Green is still available. If you want any more Dasein perfume and find it somewhere, you should probably buy it now.
Pity about Dasein – I have and love their Winter & Winter Nights.
Trying to decide among my samples from Bergdorf’s… what would you choose? Angelique Noire, Neroli Outrenoir, Iris Torréfié or Shalimar EdP?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYtqxqpx7-/?igshid=1fn0de93l0e1s
I love the first three, am actually thinking about Neroli Outrenoir.
Tough to decide on a Guerlain. I would likely choose the Neroli? Not in your sample bunch but Embruns is nice as well.
Lucky duck, how did you get samples form BGs!
I would go with Shalimar , but of course the others would do..
I was with a friend who purchased Chamade. SA generously included me…she realized I owned a # of Guerlain scents.
Do you have a pet or family member? Id let one of them decide ?
Iris Torréfié it is.
Good choice ?
Report back!
I always vote for Angelique Noire – maybe tomorrow?
Is it bad that I have FBs of all of these?
No, it’s a sign of outstanding self-care. ?
I like your thinking nl!
And great taste!
Yes. This is the attitude!
LOL! I don’t have Shalimar, you’ve got me beat there. 🙂
Have the first 2 and thinking of getting Iris Torrefie… Angelique Noire is great, so is Neroli Outrenoir but I find on me the tea goes stronger in the dry down and gets a tiny bit too sour (for me). Still I like it.
I can report back that I liked it a great deal. I struggle with Iris…in that I don’t care for Infusion d’Iris but love No. 19. Can’t really say what I liked, it may have been the hint of coffee that made it interesting to me.
Wow, what a set to choose from!
I don’t have that many bottles of perfume overall but this is probably my favourite collection! Really works for me. I think I like them all..
Still deliberating between Neroli Outrenoir and Peau d’ambrette. Will report back after my shower. More cold damp weather so it will be a good day for staying home with hot tea.
That ambrette sounds lovely. I do really like the le labo ambrette but zero lasting power. And yay on hot tea:).
I am drinking so much tea
Hot tea and a cold damp day are a match made in heaven.
I’m guzzling tea today, it’s chilly unless I stand in the direct sunshine.
My vote is for Neroli Outrenoir just because it’s a Guerlain perfume. 😉
I spritzed on some Peau d’Ambrette, but that wasn’t doing it for me so I topped up with Neroli Outrenoir. 🙂
Part of the “Hot Tea Crew”! It’s almost time for another mug.
Finishing up the last of the stollen I baked on Christmas Eve. The weather here is cloudy but warm, with a forecast high in the mid 70’s. No perfume yet. We are planning to visit a nearby wildlife park (the type where you drive through while the animals are roaming around freely). This should be a good day for it, before it becomes rainy again tomorrow.
I love stollen, my mom made it back in the day, so calorie-laden but delicious!
I associate it with Christmas. We always had it for breakfast on Christmas morning when I was a kid, and back then I hated it. My grandparents knew a German woman who would give loaves of it out at Christmas, and they would bring their loaf with them when they came to visit and save it for Christmas breakfast. The thing was, by the time we ate it, it was dry and stale. It wasn’t until years later after the German woman passed away and my mother made it instead that I found out that when it is fresh, it is delicious! A year or two later, I tried my hand at making it, and now I have been baking it at Christmas for over 35 years.
That is almost exactly my experience with stollen as well. After decades of stale stollen I couldn’t believe anyone would eat it on purpose! And then I tasted a fresh one…
Ditto with panettone… got a fresh one and swooned.
I love, love, love stollen. Will make some for New Year’s Day. I make the old Joy of Cooking version.
I use the recipe from my 1970’s Betty Crocker cookbook. I don’t know how it varies from the Joy of Cooking recipe, or even whether it is “authentic”, but it works every time, and is probably as simple and straightforward as a stollen recipe can be.
Yum! We had my flat stollen for breakfast and no one complained. 😉 I wish we had your weather. Just cold and rainy here.
It was beautiful weather today. but it is supposed to get rainy tonight and for the next couple of days. I’ll take all of it, however, over out hot, humid, seemingly endless summers.
Robin–I meant to ask whether the picture of the blackbird yesterday was intentional for the fourth day of Christmas. These days one usually hears “four calling birds”, but of course, there is no such thing as a calling bird. I have read that originally it was “colly birds” or “collie birds”, colly/collie being an old term for coal-colored or sooty, i.e. black, so the four colly birds are four blackbirds. I have also read that the “five gold (or golden) rings are in reality five golden ring-necked pheasants. This would make sense, as then the first seven gifts are all birds, with the last five being people. I never understood the seemingly abrupt change from birds to jewelry and back to birds.
Love it – I bet that’s right on the 5 golden rings. So interesting!
Yes, it was deliberate! Last year I found a great shot and quadrupled it
https://nstperfume.com/2019/12/28/lazy-weekend-poll-open-thread-almost-to-the-end-of-2019/
but yesterday I was running late, plus I liked that shot as it was, PLUS, I figured at least one person would get it!
Thanks for sharing! I enjoy this kind of history.
SotD is Bengale Rouge, from a sample.
My husband thinks it smells okayish but it reminded him of a mediocre scented candle ?
(I like it a lot btw)
I like it a lot too. You smell great!
I do not mind smelling like a candle, but maybe not a mediocre candle.
Haha, candles can be quite good. I agree.
He did not use the word mediocre, but his facial expression said ‘meh’
He also added “you own/have much better perfumes”
i admit. the first phase is indeed not THAT brilliant on me…
…..But the Bengale Rouge drydown is so good, so addictive…
I’m in Coco for the morning Zoom meetings. Will get out for a long walk today as our prediction is rain, rain and more rain.
Hope you are done with your meeting and got your long walk in by now, springpansy.
Yes! Done and done.
Jumping on to say happy Tuesday and report SotD is Rihanna Rebelle, my chocolate strawberry happy place. It really is too much but I love it. Yesterday I felt very formal in Mugler Aura. Today I just grabbed the Rebelle lotion and that committed me before I could begin to dither in front of the “top shelf.” A few or more sprays of the edp as I was off to work, and I will be a Re-belle all day!
Yay for being in your happy place! It’s a good time of year for too much anyway.
Good morning Y’all!
Smellin’ like a Fat Electrician today! Best vetiver ever in my opinion….
Smellin’ great, Jada! ?
Good morning!
I’m wearing SDV again today.
It is a sunny day and I walked for the 4th day in a row (I’ve logged 17 miles over these four days). I can get used to this being off thing.
I am however slightly bored which means I’m shopping for perfume I do not need. Which brings me to my question for you guys: should I blind buy Shalimar Soufflé de Parfum? I understand it has nothing to do with the original (which is a plus for me) but does it really smell just like a lemony dessert as many reviews portray it? Because I do not like smelling like lemony dessert ?
Les Indemodables sample set is back in stock at Luckyscent in case anybody is interested (and it includes all 8 perfumes in their collection).
Most people seem to be saying the Intense version of the Souffle is better? I like lemony dessert scents but don’t remember liking the original Souffle and the Intense version isn’t available in South Africa (I don’t think).
Thanks Merlin!
I can’t weigh in on your Shalimar question because I haven’t smelled that version, but you have made me desperately crave a lemony dessert!
You smell lovely.
Thank you Sistine ?
I get lemon, but not lemon dessert. I prefer the Intense, because it’s richer and smoother smelling.
Thanks Lillyjo, that helps.
I agree, it is not lemon tarte edible imo. It’s a spring and summer perfume for me, the intense version is heftier and sweeter.
Good to know. Thanks Aurora!
I like both versions and at some discounters you can find them on the cheap.
I want to blind buy the Shalimar Philtre -so you and I may be a bad influence on each other…
? Yes, I can buy it cheaply which is the only reason I’m considering it since by most accounts it’s not gonna be my cup of tea. But who knows?
I was able to try both thanks to lillyjo and to me, I didn’t get a dessert vibe. Both of them ultimately were not for me, but my daughter liked the Souffle! Have you tried the Shalimar Cologne? I have learned that I am a firm old style Shalimar person.
I have not tried the cologne and I’m most definitely not an old style Shalimar person ( meaning I do not like the original Shalimar which at some point smells like gasoline on me) but I’ve not smelled any of its flankers and for some reason I feel compelled to like something Shalimar ?
I didn’t love Soufflé either and judging by the notes I thought I would. Possibly not a safe blind buy?
What did you think of les indemodables adanst? Did you try them?
I haven’t tried them yet. Just ordered them and Luckyscent sent me an email yesterday saying there will be a slight delay in shipping due to a mixup with the product coming from France.
Someone I had been in contact with a week ago told me he had subsequently tested positive so I’ve been isolating for a week and plan to be tested tomorrow. My tummy has been a bit upset for three days which COULD be a symptom but could also just be anxiety. In any case I have had to be careful with scent as my sense of smell seems heightened and I get prone to queasiness when stressed. One spray of Calacas was nice and bright for the day and something else might follow evening shower.
I tested Molton Brown’s Milk Musk edt a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. The shop did not have the edp in stock but apparently the edt is a bit sweeter and fluffier so I suspect I would prefer it. I might need to compare it to La Mia Perla – though I suspect that one is a bit woodier. What are your favourite clean and cuddly musks?
I’m so sorry to hear that you were exposed and have to go this period of stress! I hope your upset tummy recovers soon.
Thanks Sistine! It is sobering but also a little reassuring to think of HOW MANY people are going through the same thing.
When I was exposed I went strong on the perfume just to make sure I could still smell it. When my sister had it she couldn’t smell or taste anything for 2 months!
Hope it’s just stress and nothing more. Stay safe!
Yeah, every now and then I will suddenly sniff something to make sure! (If I’m not neurotically taking my temperature).
Hopefully it’s just anxiety.
Thinking good thoughts for you to test negative! As far as clean and cuddly musk (with a bit of woods), Barbara Bui Le Parfum is quite nice and easy to wear.
Thanks Cazaubon and Therabbitsflower!
I must look for some Barbara Bui… ?
Fingers crossed that all is well Merlin.
Stay positive, test negative.
I IMd with someone at work (at home) this morning and he said he tested positive. He just felt like he had a cold and decided to get tested. He was not aware of how he was exposed. What I can tell you is that I was Zooming with another colleague and he said that testing labs could make the test more or less sensitive (he used a more scientific sounding term). I will need to read more about this.
I am rhetorically asking where did all the influenza illnesses and deaths go? Are we now all “healthier” save for COVID? ?
Social distancing and masks have luckily resulted in very little flu. It’s a good thing. The hospitals are at or over capacity here and couldn’t handle flu cases. I have seen our hospital full to overflowing in a bad flu season.
It’s a good thing but now people are dying of another virus ?
Oh, all too aware, being an internal medicine physician. It’s just that the hospitals couldn’t handle it if we had a bunch of flu on top of COVID. Unfortunately, I still can’t talk stubborn people into getting their flu shots.
Thanks Adanst and Hajsuuri ?
Regarding testing procedures my GP told me NOT to go to a Dischem testing facility (run by a large pharmacy chain here) but an actual laboratory. I was surprised to hear that the former was running less reliable tests.
As for influenza – I know we had far less of it during our winter. This was ascribed to the precautions people were taking. Masks, sanitising and distancing were said to have reduced it – which makes sense.
South Africa had a LOWER mortality rate during the first wave (if I remember correctly) due to added police presence and patrolling. This lead to reduced crime and fewer related deaths ?
I wish covid had brought me less crime. This has been the deadliest year in my city since 1993. It’s been awful.
Oh wow, I’m sorry… Makes some sense due to increased poverty maybe?
Our city also has a record murder rate this year.
Sending you and Lillyjo wishes for a safe year!
Philly isn’t doing well re: violent crime this year, either.
I didn’t realise the South African case was unusual. Crime has probably increased by now and probably will in the future due to increased poverty 🙁
Crossing my fingers for you.
Good move to avoid the chemist/pharmacy test. Of course this is only an anecdotal report, but my aunt did a drive through test managed by a pharmacy chain and the experience was not confidence inducing. They had people self-administer the nasal swab, rushed and did not provide sufficient instruction.
Only when my aunt got home and READ the instructions they hadn’t given her time to read, did she realize she hadn’t done it properly.
Wow! My friend had a better experience than that but my impression (from the doc) was that the chemicals used are different.
I hope your aunt is ok!
Oh, I hope you recover quickly from the stomach upset, fingers crossed for the test. I like SL Clair de Musc very much, and Annick Goutal Musc Nomade too.
The SL is very likeable! I find the AG interesting but not cuddly enough 😀
Aerin Amber Musc is clean and cuddly to me.
Another I will keep my eyes open for!
Fingers crossed for you — please let us know when you get your results!
Thanks so much Robin – I will do!
Seconding Aurora’s picks for clean & cuddly musks. I sure hope that your test comes back negative!
Those two do seem popular 🙂 And thank you so much Jalapeno!
Sitting in the sales reps office of a Mazda dealership, about to sign on a brand new car. SOTD is ELDO Like This.
Woohoo! Congrats on the new car!
Wow, smelling great while doing business!
A new car is great news
I had a Mazda 3 and loved it. Very dependable car. Enjoy your new ride! ?
Me too! Bright blue! I still have it and love it! Enjoy!
Also a Mazda3 driver here! Still love mine after 8 years. Only 60k miles so she’ll keep on ticking for a while…
yay for new car!
What fun! Love new car smell!
Oh yay!
Awesome! ?
Woohoo! My first car ever: a Mazda 323, red and souped up by the previous owner with silly tires and sporty seatbelts and an at that time fancy 10 CD changer….My third car was a Mazda Protege S in bright yellow ….what did you get?
I’m wearing a labdanum and vanilla body oil on my legs and Boyfriend on my upper body, so I am smelling great. I used our new rowing machine today for a longer workout than I had planned and wow, I am feeling it. There are abs hurting that I didn’t even realize existed.
You do smell great! I did some upper body stuff yesterday and am sore today but it “hurts so good.”
Congrats to both of you! Nothing like that after burn ?
Had a doctor’s appointment today that really took longer than expected and now at work. Wearing Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Madagascar right now.
AH! you smell SO good
I decided to join you in Black Rosette, Robin. I had a sample of the extrait in my baggie of samples with low fill level, so it was just begging to be thunked today. This is definitely an oddball perfume (rose, leather, spearmint), but it’s fun every now and then. But since my sample is gone now, I guess it’s the end of the line for this one.
Hey twin! It’s very oddball and I’m relatively sure this is the first time I’ve worn it here as a twin.
I’m in Iris Nazarena, very nice on this cloudy, breezy, 71 degree day. As 50_Roses said, the rain returns tomorrow and cold the day after.
The Wild One is getting a bath and a spiff today, so will need a significant walk to burn off her energy later on.
Am I the only one planning New Year’s Day food? I’m thinking black eyed peas, given the coconut milk/Moroccan spices/tomato sauce treatment. ?
We have to go to my SIL’s for sauerkraut and pork, ugh! She has promosed to make a salad for me but it still sounds disgusting. Will make bread to bring.
I’m not a sauerkraut fan, either. My BIL makes kraut dogs in the slow cooker for New Year’s; I think it’s an Ohio thing. I’d never heard of it until he joined the family. I’m glad to hear you’ll have salad and bread to eat, at least!
I attempted corned beef and sauerkraut once. I kept thinking it wasn’t done because it was still pinkish. I cooked it until it was a rock! Lol.
Oh lillyjo, I’m laughing, but I’m sorry that happened! ?
My Mom made us hotdogs and sauerkraut when we were kids. Plus her cabbage rolls are with sour cabbage and rice (and a bit of bacon); I was surprised to see any other type of cabbage rolls existed!
My hubby just cringes when I get sauerkraut at Costco; it’s all for me though!
Those cabbage rolls sound good to me!
My dad and my grandmother ( grossmutter) made homemade sauerkraut in brining barrels when I was a kid. it was yummy.
I don’t eat meat any more and never at pork, but homemade kraut….mmmmm
Mmm, now I want Schweinshaxe with sauerkraut and Breznknödel… :^D
Thanks for reminding me – I have to check if my local Chinese food takeout will be open. My friend wants to celebrate our traditional New Year’s Day Chinese food extravaganza. Normally, I’m not around since I usually travel somewhere over New Year’s.
I hope your takeout place is open for you, hajusuuri! ?
You smell fantastic! I’ve been planning our food — NYE will be a bunch of tapas / munchies (including onion rings, which my dad used to make on NYE when I was little) and shrimp cocktail (which my dad used to buy at the grocery when I was older, but let’s say my version will be better 🙂 ). There will also be some healthier options and some from other cultures. New Year’s Day we’re going with a British theme so I can get some Yorkshire pudding in for my spouse.
I do love sauerkraut, I have to say, but maybe that’s because I lived in Germany as a kid?
Your feasts sound absolutely wonderful! I’m realizing that I’ve never once made shrimp cocktail. Maybe that needs to be remedied…
We have planned a crabcake dinner for NYE, but no plan for NY — every year I swear I will do hoppin john and then I don’t.
Well, crabcakes are kind of an ordeal, so you have every reason to skip the bean prep!
🙂
No particular plans for New Year’s food here. Maybe I will make a batch of chili in the next couple of days.
And now, for something sorta kinda different. I have had homemade sauerkraut, and it is so much better than the stuff you buy at the supermarket. Then again, I grew up eating it, so maybe it was an early acquired taste for me.
The hubs keeps threatening to make chili. If he doesn’t, I will. Chili will be nice for the cold weather you’re having!
No big New Year’s food plan here, we’re so fooded out from Christmas. That said, if I can get my hands on some crab, that would be nice and festive.
Your Moroccan dish sounds great.
We’ll see how it goes. It’s a new to me recipe, so I may make half of the recipe. I hope you find some crab!
I’m going to be making blackeyed peas, cabbage, and sausage (pork).
Sounds yummy!
Vintage Cabochard today, I wanted something with more backbone today to keep me awake after another night of not sleeping well.
You smell polished, hope you will sleep well tonight ?
More wishes for a night of good sleep tannina!
???
Yippeeeeeee off till next Monday.
Slept ten
Wrapped up in robe and blanket with coffee.
The teapot is charming, Robin.
I received a mini trampoline from amazon. After going through fits and starts of exercise, walking, doing nothing through this whole year need to be better in 2021 and keep the weight I lost off for whenever the day comes when my sister and I are on a plane to our next adventure!
She gets vaccine part one today!
Huzzah!
Done. Part two vaccine 1/26.
Enjoy your time off!
Glad your sister was able to get the vaccine. I had my first one 1 week ago. Hope we can move quickly and vaccinate as many folks asap.
I LOVE my mini trampoline — my husband said I would never use it, but I have used it nearly every day since I got it in 2016.
Excellent news on vaccine!
Please be safe on trampoline. Husband of a coworker of my Mom’s had an accident on one (at a party; alcohol may have been involved) and was paralyzed. This was 30 years ago. But that story always stuck with me.
The gym I used to belong to had mini trampoline classes. They are actually joint friendly but one has to check the equipment before each session, be mindful of posture and how one’s feet hit the trampoline. It was great exercise.
Wearing Mistral Patchouli today…which seems to have gone through a name change? Was on the website considering a small bottle of Vanille Insensee to replace my almost-gone travel spray and found myself browsing more. Anyone know if it’s been reformulated too?
It did change names, but haven’t resniffed it to see if it was reformulated.
I haven’t heard of any refomulation for Vanille Insensee. It’s been a couple of years at least since I’ve smelled a recent batch of it.
Ack, that should be “reformulation”!
oh, I meant mistrial patchouli/patchouli riviera. new name new formula, maybe? the notes are exactly the same so I don’t think it’s a new thing entirely.
Ah, gotcha. Seeing a name change on a perfume does make one wonder, doesn’t it?
Sampling TF Fleur de Portifino..I needed something fresh. This fits the bill:).
That one is so pleasant!
Powdered my nose with Guerlain Meteorites and followed up with some of the matching perfume. It’s a sweeter perfume than I usually like, but seemed to be what was needed.
Do they smell the same, the powder and the perfume?
Chanel No 18 is my SOTD. I am bringing my Mother to her doctor for an allergy shot. No 18 won’t make her sneeze 🙂 I hope so, at least.
I received a sample of No 18 when I purchased my bottle of Cristalle a few weeks ago, and I have been wearing it a lot. And enjoying it a lot, also.
I’m sure you smell very good, there is ambrette in No 18 and I love that note.
I was wearing Liz Earle No 9, a really fruity but also old school chypre, but tonight I opted for Winter Délice, smelling my hand quite often.
Vintage Bellodgia for another gray day. Having leftovers for dinner and this afternoon I might make some cookie dough to freeze.
You smell nice. My vintage extrait has floating bits and I’ve decided not to chance it and will just admire the bottle.
Nice teapot, it must be Tuesday!
SOTD = Masque Milano L’Attesa
Wonderful fun iris scent ?

I’ma try to fit in a walk before it turns crappy later this week! Will be back to read and comment more later.
It’s Tuesday indeed and you smell like a million bucks!
I do not consider myself an iris lover but in the last year I’ve discovered two iris perfumes that I really like: l’Attesa and Iris Torréfié.
In that order.
Enjoy your walk ?
You might also like Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve. It isn’t an overly strong iris and dries to a really nice amber.
Oh, thank you for your suggestion. I will seek it out.
I may have a sample of this.
Thank you. It was indeed, a nice walk! I do crave when there’s more daylight so I can go after work and not have to hurry back to put in 1-2 more hours. Heh! I suppose I can start working earlier but eh ??♀️
Teapot Tuesday! And you smell great, I wore it yesterday. 🙂
We’re twins, one day late!
Good for you getting out for a walk! I had enough of outside with taking out the trash & recyclables today.
My garbage days are Thursdays and Mondays. I do try to out them out the day before but sometimes, I like to live on the edge.
Both the trash Dumpster and the recycle bin were overflowing yesterday (yuck), so I waited until after the trucks came thru my neighborhood today. Holiday pickup schedules are always a little out of whack in my area.
I can’t put garbage out the day before, because in my town, we are required to put the garbage out in bags–no cans. If I put garbage bags out the day or night before, the animals will tear into everything and make a mess.
SOTD is Gallivant Tokyo, which came as a sample with the bottle of CdG Kyoto my spouse bought me for Christmas. The Tokyo is not my cup of tea. It strikes me as a well-made version of a stereotypical “men’s” perfume. I’m not getting more than a hint of incense (though the hint was nice), nor am I really getting any of the other “Japanese” notes that are supposedly there.
The Kyoto, on the other hand, is lovely (but I already knew that). And I’ve been on buying the other wishlist bottles that I’ve decided I needed with some money I got. 🙂
Otherwise, just off for the week and a bit housebound / bored. We did go skiing yesterday at one of the resorts above the city, on the only day with sun for weeks, but I’m not sure when we’ll do that again. Yes, we were outside but a lot of the younger set were not observing any of the health orders / requirements, plus the lines were insane. My kid needs to get out and run more, but it’s hard to do with the rain.
Oh, I feel for you! I was facetiming with my brother and his family in Calgary and my niece was literally bouncing off the walls. I hope it stops raining soon!
I think we’re going to be dealing with rain for the rest of the week…typical Vancouver winter. It’s harder when the options for getting out of the house into indoor spaces are limited, though. So…much…screen time.
I hope they’re able to get your niece out into some fun snow to play in!
I had a video medication check with my daughter, and for whatever reason, they could see us but not hear us. I tried to fix it, but couldn’t. So I called one of the people on their phone and said just put me on speaker, but no… unacceptable. We had to reschedule. I hate this new way of communication as much, if not more than I hate snow. ( I realize, that it’s not that new) rant over.
I’m wearing Eau de Merveilles Blue, because I was trying to talk myself into buying a perfume, and it’s on the list.
How do you find that blue one? I’ve never tried it.
It’s aquatic and salty. My favorite from the line, but I’m not an amber lover. I’ve been wanting to add a salty perfume to my collection, and so far I like this one most from what I’ve tried.
That must have been so frustrating. It makes no sense. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this.
Did you manage to talk yourself into buying a perfume?
It’s very frustrating. I’m not very good on a computer, but also I don’t like being on camera, and having strangers in my home.
I haven’t hit buy on anything yet, but I’m actively searching for deals! The problem is I overthink it, lol
EdM Bleue would be a nice choice for your summer weather…
Exactly. Obviously, I’m thinking WAY ahead!
Sure. You definitely don’t like thinking about winter!
Lillyjo, if you don’t need or want a full bottle I could send you a decant from mine. Let me know. I believe I still have your address.
Oh thank you! I think I have enough for now. I have just been itching to buy something lately.
Sounds like a pain in the tuckus. What a waste of everyone’s time. Were they afraid they’re not talking to you? I think your solution was ingeneous!
Thank you! I thought so too, lol.
I don’t like this doctor anyway, but we can’t switch yet.
That’s so aggravating. Neither I nor the hubster have had a virtual medical appointment that hasn’t has some kind of glitch or another, so I can sympathize. Hopefully you can find a new doctor once we leave this wretched year behind!
Sorry you had that experience. It’s so frustrating when people are so rigid with no real reason to be. I have a strong feeling that some are using ‘COVID’ to avoid making an effort.. I myself have been unable to book an appointment with my GP for weeks (virtual, phone or face to face). I wonder how vulnerable people with serious ailments makes contact 🙁
SotD = Mon Precieux Nectar
MPN is gentle on my nose, and I needed something easy this morning. Current internal mantra: Be kind to yourself.
Now I’m craving iris, really enjoyed wearing small doses of multiple iris scents yesterday. Maybe later today Hiris will make an appearance.
Now it’s time for a bike ride. 🙂
That is the perfect mantra for these times. Another good one: Yes to Hermes!
I adore MPN, you smell glorious.
Mmmm. Hope your bike ride was refreshing!
I woke up this morning and for some reason really craved Boris de Paradis. Well, it never needs a reason, does it? I sprayed it on and began furious sneezing. Oh no! Maybe it’s just our windy day and mold etc. from outside.
Mom tested positive for Covid. They wound up calling my brother because they couldn’t reach me. For various reasons they explained to him, they think it’s a false positive. He agreed, and he’s the microbiologist. Hope that’s true. She is asymptomatic. I had nightmares last night. Such a scary time right now. They’re having their first vaccine clinic on January 9th! Hope she can still get the shot.
I’m still having lots of pain in my hand and thumb, and problems typing. I’m doing two-finger typing. Couldn’t get an appointment for therapy until Jan 8th. Hope that will help!
Boris de Paradis is a rather hilarious autocorrect! Lol! Someone I’d like to meet!
Fingers crossed for your mother. Thumbs are a real problem when they’re hurting. We take them for granted until we have trouble with them. Hopefully the therapy will help. You could also try a little of the Voltaren gel that is OTC now if you don’t have any issues with anti-inflammatories.
I’m keeping you and your mother in my thoughts.
So sorry for all the pain and worry, I hope things go well for you and your mother.
Sending out good thoughts for your Mom and you, Calypso.
Thoughts of healing and strength headed your way for you and your Mom. I hope the PT will help your hand!
Sending healing thoughts to both you and your mom. It’s been a tough year for you.
Fingers crossed for your mum!
Oh boy, I hope it is false positive! I need to read more about this as these themes keep coming up. I also hipe you’re able to alleviate your pain. Can you do Telehealth while waiting for in-person PT?
I so hope it’s a false positive! I’m keeping all of you in my prayers. Waiting for PT to start when you really need it is very frustrating. Maybe your ortho would approve of some very gentle stretching, say, under a heating pad?
Calypso – so sorry about the pain! I can relate to the covid nightmares – had one yesterday and I doubt we are the only ones. Hugs!
Wearing Orris Tattoo today! It seems as though iris scents are providing lots of comfort these days, for me anyways.
You smell great! I think NST is having a collective iris binge.
Definitely time to get your hands on comfort scents in any way, shape, or form!
Nice! Funnily enough, I considered Orris Tattoo this morning.
Well, lillyjo definitely sent the sun my way today! So thank you very much! ?? However, it was accompanied by a biting cold wind all day, so I decided to put off getting groceries and do indoor tasks today.
SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Supra Floral, aka a “Hajusuuri Special”, from the sample stash. I think this is my favorite of the 3 that she sent my way. I’ll have to try it again to make sure, though.
Glad you got the sun?
I’ve got snow on the way tonight.
I only tried Supra Floral one time, and passed my sample to someone who loved it. I read some people compared it to Gucci Envy, but I didn’t think it was similar. I should revisit it.
I never tried the original Gucci Envy perfume. I did have one of its flankers in the early 2000’s, but passed that bottle along to someone else.
Woo hoo! I should do a week of the Les Exceptions.
And yes, there was a biting wind!
I’d rather have rain or snow than wind.
No SOTD yet, even though it’s late. I might put on a drop of Black Opium on one hand and Black Opium Intense on the other. I wish the Intense came in a travel spray. Hard to justify a FB. I did get my Merry Christmas to me (Le Lion de Chanel). Was surprised to get it within a few days of ordering from Chanel since the website said it was in pre-order.
Our Christmas did not end well, unfortunately. My mother-in-law was admitted a few days before Christmas with full-blown kidney failure. Things just went from bad to worse and she died the morning after Christmas. She was a really kind, funny lady and we always got on well. It’s so weird to have her gone so suddenly. My father-in-law seems to be coping pretty well, but is the stoic type and probably still in disbelief. He is being kept busy by all the little things that you have to do after someone dies. She is being cremated per plans that were already in place and we are going to have a memorial service in July (hopefully). We live 10 hours away, so everything has been at a distance, which makes it more surreal.
Oh Sapphire, I don’t know how to express how sorry I am for you and your family to suffer such a loss during such strange times. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband’s family, and especially your father-in-law. Hugs to all of you.
I am so sorry for your sudden and shocking loss, sending you hugs and comforting thoughts.
How very sad and shocking for everyone, condolences.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Sapphire.
Sending hugs. I hope your sweet memories of your time with your mother-in-law will sustain you during this time. Your unexpected loss definitely points out how fragile life can be. Hugs!!
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother-in-law. So tough, especially at this time of year. Hugs.
Oh no, I am so sorry Sapphire. I hope your husband is holding up ok, that’s just so hard.
So sorry for your loss.
My deepest condolences to you and your family Sapphire.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Sapphire.
I’m very sorry for your loss, Sapphire.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words.
I’m so sorry.
Sending love too…
Dove into work today in the dregs of last night’s Coromandel and never sprayed anything else. Just took a shower so will pick out something new before an evening Zoom cocktail party with some coworkers.
What did you end up in?
I love that you wear scent for a zoom get-together! ?
No SOTD today as I have a head cold and my nose is streaming! Also sore from blowing it so much. I don’t want to waste a nice scent with all that going on!
A bit of vaporub might help though. I find Lush’s Ginger works nearly as well, Lol! Hope you feel better soon.
Our newspaper said Cardin was one of the first designers not to emphasize “flattering the female form.” (The other two were Courreges and Rabanne.) Ah, modern times….
