It's Tuesday, plus Bill of Rights Day, National Cupcake Day and the sixth night of Hanukkah. A belated RIP for Charley Pride and John le Carré. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: warming up the morning with Eau d'Italie Baume du Doge.
Reminder: on 12/18 we're doing Best of 2020...wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2020.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Tuesday!
Happy Tuesday!?
?
You smell great! I just acquired LFdB recently and it does just about everything I want a rose perfume to do.
Thank you! LFd Bis a very beautiful and interesting rose perfume. One of my big favorites!
You smell wonderful! I agree, that’s a nice big rose perfume.
Thank you! ?
Happy Tuesday!
?
Pretty rose! ?
Indeed!
A preview of my Friday as it’s my only 2020 newbie: St Clair Scents Song of Aubrac.
It feels like -19°C outside, but it doesn’t matter because it’s sunny and I’m double-caffeinated today. Happy Tuesday! What a lovely teapot choice, Robin.
-19 C, huh? And I thought we had it rough here in GA at about 34 F this morning ?
If you like the teapot it is worth looking at some of Paul Scott’s work — he does some really interesting stuff!

Minus 19 Celsius? Nope. Nope. And nope-ity nope nope!
This morning I put on an old favorite, Mandarine & Cardamom from 4711.
I have that one, too. You smell good.
Oh how fresh! And perfect for this time of year.
I am wearing Eau de Magnolia, one of my favourites.
It’s very cold outside, staying in.
Happy Tuesday
I almost chose this one today. You smell great!
My travel spray of this just arrived- it’s very long lasting
Morning all – I’m wearing Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2009 (one spritz) layered over the body oil. I love this rich boozy version of Angel. Sentimental, it’s from Tama’s collection. 🙂
Finished my second cup of espresso, sneakers on, and I’m out the door!
Robin, I love the tea pot choice.
I also love white and blue teapots. I love white and blue everything. You should see my apartment. Its Charlotte Moss inspired.
I love blue and white; this is the design for the kitchen cabinets and tile for the new year!
Oh how lovely! Charlotte Moss is right up my alley! 🙂
I really love the blue & white but unexpected thing that Calamityware does…they also have a nice blue & white teapot, I believe. 🙂
Another blue and white fan! There’s just something about classic teapots…
Another blue and white fan, with cobalt glass for good measure.
I do love cobalt glass, it’s a nice accent color. 🙂
See the link I left for teebear above!
Also, possibly someone besides me will think these (non functional) tea pots are cool:
https://hifructose.com/2013/12/09/melting-teacups-and-teapots-by-livia-marin/
Thank you Robin! 🙂
I wound up walking 6.5 miles today! Holy cats alive, my tootsies are burning! 🙂
Do you have any Epsom salts for a foot soak?
SOTD: Rose 31
This is a new favorite for me this year (not a new release) — yes it takes a while for me to catch up!
Bright, blue sky out today with lots of sun. Good to see and hope to get out shortly to mail some Christmas gifts.
My brother in Austin reported he purchased his first Christmas tree ever but due to the huge increase of folks staying home this year he could not find a tree stand anywhere! The poor tree is leaning against his living room wall for the time being but at least in a bucket of water, lol.
Aww… tell him to check his local grocery or hardware store for a stand. They will sometimes carry a small selection.
Yeah, I’d be tempted to try Bi-mart, or some equivalent, all-purpose (older-person marketed? it’s an ongoing debate between me and Mr. Spicebomb) store.
I have never used a tree stand but just a big bucket, wedge bricks and half bricks (concrete, rocks etc) around the tree ( inside the bucket) to keep it upright and weighted ( so it won’t topple over) and then fill the bucket with water to keep it alive and healthy. Top up the wather every day or so and it will be good for a month at least. Wrap sacking or tinsel etc. around bucket for improved visuals. Works on any size tree, just get a bigger bucket.
Really??? I would never have even thought to do this.
But I know we would knock it over.
Poor Charlie Brown tree!
Awww hope he finds a stand haha.
They even have tree stands on Amazon.? We got a Krinner two years ago and it is the best tree stand I have ever had in all our years of putting up a tree, I would highly recommend it.
I’m in Houston and they had lots of tree stands at Home Depot, where I bought my tree.
Tea is rooibos from celestial tea, a cheap but good packaged tea options. The kids like this one, so I make a pot. It also has vanilla.
While searching for my bottle of Alahiiiine, I found my bottle of Frangipani by Lili Bermuda so that is my SOTD. The notes
Jasmine Orange Blossom Ylang-Ylang Vetiver Patchouli Vanilla Cassis
Dress in all blue today
Thrift store top https://images.app.goo.gl/JZU89K8Lq3Vxuh5N7 and jeans
OOh, your mention of “cheap but good packaged teas,” reminds me of a question I had for all you tea-drinkin’ folks. Is there an easily accessible black tea that you consider especially tasty? I’m nearly done with my endless pack of Lipton (so you know my usual low standards), and I sometimes like a cup of tea in the middle of the day.
I do not like Earl Grey (too musty) and I have plenty of green tea for when I want something soft and meditative (which turns out to be nearly never). I have a loose-leaf chai that I really like, but don’t bother with while I’m working.
So, to sum up, an easy, tasty, lazy bag of pretty darn good black tea I can find at a supermarket. What would you recommend? Thanks!
Marjorie Rose-
Mr L told me the other day that I am like an Arab, I drink tea all day. This is a very nice compliment to me 😉
Have you ever tried to basic Twinnings tea?
At our corner store they sell tea sachets of Harney and Sons, my favorite being Paris which tastes like MF Marco Polo and is great as an afternoon tea and I think its about 6 or 7 dollars for 20 tea sachets and my French neighbor drinks their English breakfast and enjoys those tea bags as well.
When I visit a more ethnic grocer I like the Ahmad tea, their English Breakfast is about 20 sachets for 3 or 4. They also make a classic black sampler box.
I just read the bit about shopping at your local store and I am not sure where you life but I think Harney & Sons and Twinnings are easy to find your local store.
The Ahmad teas I find here and there. I was turned on to them when I lived in San Francisco and they were at a greek/lebanese grocer I visited.
Of course there is always Celestial on the cheap, they make black teas but I haven’t tried them
The nearest ethnic grocery we have is an H-Mart down the road, which is Korean-owned. I like the tins of loose-leaf jasmine tea I can get there, but I haven’t tried any of the bagged teas, yet.
Lemming for Harney & Sons Paris! I give MF teas as gifts to tea-drinking family, but I’d love to find a similar for my own use!
I’m not knowledgeable about tea, I mainly drink mint or chamomile, but Bigelow Constant Comment is a black tea blend that’s cheap and delicious imho. My mom used to make a pot in the afternoon and we’d have a cup when I got home from school, so there’s definitely nostalgia for me.
Tazo is easily found, and has both herbal tisanes and black teas. Twinings is good for basic English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast. Not so cheap, but really good are the Republic of Tea choices in most larger grocery stores (at least in Texas). As mentioned by ringthing, Bigelow is good and quite cheap. My favorite of theirs is Lemon Lift, which is a lemon spice tea, and also Constant Comment, which is an orange spice tea.
I dearly love Taylors of Harrogate Scottish Breakfast for good strong black tea, and also love Tazo Chai with a good bit of honey and milk/cream. Tazo should be available in most stores, I get the Taylors from Amazon.
I’ll second the Tazo Chai.
Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! Noting them down. 🙂
Thanks for the booklist. I haven’t read Family Lexicon so now I am all sorted!
You have now a list of Italian authors 🙂
Yeah, I’ve read the others so it good to get an autobiography …I love memoirs, essays etc.
Cute top!
Feminité du Bois by Serge Lutens today. I hardly ever wear it and I forget how nice it is.
It is a great scent. You smell wonderful!
All if my Serge Lutens scents fell of my radar. Too many perfumes and so little time!
I forgot I’d gotten a bottle of L’Orpheline in 2018. I wore it recently and it was an instant love.
Wearing my favorite discovery of the year which isn’t a 2020 release. It’s Lattedoro from Gabriella Chieffo which has probably been my most worn scent this yeat
Mine might not be a 2020 release either…and I think we are actually a large club.
Gallivant Bukhara for me today.
You smell great!
thanks
Mine has arrived. The box is in quarantine until tomorrow!
You bought a bottle. Ah congrats, you lucky new iris owner
Continuing with my anti-theme theme (yesterday’s “new release” Tardes from 2010 made me laugh to learn!), I am wearing one of the very first scents I ever purchased, Givenchy Ange ou Demon Le Secret. It is powdery with a bit of bity citrus (they say cranberry), and I associate it with this time of year, since it was a Christmas present to myself. I’ve nearly drained my bottle, and I very well may decide to go find another one at a discounter somewhere!
Cranberry? Intriguing!
It doesn’t read as cranberry to my nose, maybe grapefruit. Mostly, this is traditional, powdering “pink” mall scent, but there’s definitely something sharp/sour to balance out the sweet powder. It’s that balance that makes it work for me.
I remember that Givenchy. I had a sample of it, and the cranberry note didn’t like me one bit!
Today I am wearing Atalier Colonges Sur Les Toits, the exact candied violet that I did not feel like wearing for Friday’s Community Project. Why did I feel like wearing this today? I think the cold weather made the sweetness feel fresh, rather than cloying.
I really like that one. I savored the sample I had.
I believe I fit the CP! I’m in Chanel le Lion today. I smell great, though if I’m honest, I wouldn’t have worn this if it hadn’t been for the CP. I suppose I’ll just spend the week in the decants (large samples?) I’ve gotten this year.
Large samples are FB ?
Singing your song!! Of course there is that shelf space issue….
I nearly wrote “hajusuuri-sized,” but then I remembered that a hajusuuri-sized sample is just a bottle 🙂
LOL
You smell super good.
Why thank you, I rather do 🙂
I bought the Jovoy discovery box #3 ‘winter staff picks’ and it arrived today.
I think I will start top row, left…. so Chambre Noir by Olfacrive Studio first.
?
What do you think of Chambre Noir? It’sone of my winter favourites.
Its great!
Not groundbreaking but well made, well balanced and perfect for winter indeed.
Now…i read somewhere Olfactive does travel sizes ? haha
Currently in vintage Shalimar extrait but will be switching to either Lyric or no 5. It’s cold, gray and wish everything that I ordered would just arrive today.
I’ve got a Luckyscent order on the way, which includes a sample of Lyric.
Lyric is fabulous.
You are going to smell so good all day. It’s sunny here but cold. We’ve got some workers at the house, so I’m going to telecommute this afternoon. Going to light a fire to keep me cozy.
I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today, and it’s inspiring me to investigate more carnation-forward scents. Any suggestions?
Nina Ricci L’air du Temps, Caron Bellodgia (may be misspelled,) Etro Dianthus and En Voyage Fiore di Bellagio are all carnation-centric perfumes I like.
CDG REd series: Carnation. Pretty full on carnation/clove. One spray lasts three days on me but others here describe it as fleeting.
I love this one, but that hit of carnation/clove lasts about 20 min. on me, and then all I get is powdery musk. 🙁
This one lasted a nanosecond on me!
DSH Oeillets Rouges
And…I just swapped out Prada Infusion Mandarine for Oeillet (swapped out from storage, that is).
I think the mandarine is the only infusion I haven’t tried. What do you think of it?
If you have ever tried Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, it’s half the orange plus a good dose of “infusion” Iris. If you’re in the U.S., I can send you some! (Click on username link)
Oeillet Bengale!
+1 for Oeillet Bengale!
Oh, these all sound good! Thanks for the suggestions!
I don’t know if you have access to Oriza L Legrand? They have two carnations: Royal Oeillet and Oeillet Louis XV. And I heartily second the recommendation of Oeillet Bengalen.
I’m wearing En Voyage Captured in Amber with a dab of Dame New Musk today. YUM.
I do like the name Captured in Amber.
Needed something cosy so I wore lots of Felanilla.
Our receptionist got tested positive for covid, and often went without mask, so we hope we didn’t get it.
That’s sad. A lot of tracing , too.
Oh darn. I hope you are safe.
OMG, another test for you then?
You smell great – I’m so sorry to hear about your possible exposure! My fingers are crossed that your test is negative.
Hoping your tests come out negative!
Oh dear.
Twins! Though I’m wearing mine for kinda the opposite reason, maybe? I went to see my RMT for the first time in a year, and I wanted something that fit the season but wouldn’t offend him. We were all VERY VERY safe, though he of course pointed out that there’s always *some* risk and wanted to make sure I was good with it. But they are doing a great job with following all the mandates.
Fingers crossed for your tests!
Yikes! That’s a shame. Fingers crossed!
Big hugs…wishing you a negative result. I haven’t tried Felanilla…yet. 😉
I’m re-trying Soivohle Tobacco and Black Moss today, and liking it better than I did the first time around. I have to say that there is something in the top notes that I don’t like at all, but it’s gone in a minute and a half, and what’s left is very nice indeed. Doesn’t seem to have a lot of longevity though – ymmv.
Are you sure it’s a minute and a half? ?
I have not explored this house.
You should! There are things totally in your wheelhouse at Soivohle. Plus, cute 10mL bottles!
Not affiliated, just enthusiastic…
Enabler!
SotD: Avon Little Black Dress. Doused myself and after about 5 hours can’t really smell anything. I do think some people just want that initial wave and then to just forget about their perfume. I want mine to to be like my cats, either winding around my legs wanting attention or sitting next to me purring loudly.
oh wow- what a way to describe a nice, long lasting fragrance! I like this analogy.
Nice analogies! I find the ones that always want attention to get annoying and/or distracting. I opt for the reassuring hum or intermittent but low key breezes. I get nose blind quickly though so find it hard to get scent to the right volume. If I put a lot on it irritates me too ?
No paws tapping your face in the middle of the night, eh? LOL. I tried to think of something with a low-key breeze, and two I got from NST split meets just this year might be that scent: PoTL Luctor et Emergo and Guerlain Iris Torrefie. I really like both and they have a soft presence. IT was especially interesting in that I got nose blind as the evening wore on, but the next day, it smelled wonderful on my clothes.
LOL! I had a kitty who would take one claw and touch my lip with it to awaken me when I was asleep. He never hurt me, but that is a startling way to wake up!
Yes, more LOL for paws on lips: also, ewww. Icy nose on my EYELID is another favorite trick!
Cold, slightly wet noses! Yes! Totally have had my eyelid sniffed. It is a startling feeling.
That’s…a little creepy 🙂
One of my cats will try to “boop” me on the nose with her paw if she thinks I’ve been in bed for too long.
Ha ha! No, but my dog will full on stick his snout in my face if I have not woken to any of his other ploys 😀
Oh how cute 🙂
I was woken before four by the Dawn Chorus, it was crazy loud but wonderful. I don’t suppose I can say (sigh) ” first world problems” as it probably isn’t much of a first world problem, unlike choosing perfume. Yesterday I tried a recent CDG L’Odeur series, Chaletet theatre…woodsy, spicy, smoky like an old theatre but then something very bitter strides through the middle ( possibly the understudy? Or former leading actor?) Reminds me I watched some of the Fosse/ Verdon series…good acting, a bit flat in places, but okay.
Chatelet with a raised eyebrow on top of the a
I’m proud of you Kanuka ?
Did you like the CdG, I can’t tell?
Dawn chorus! Makes me think of Thom Yorke — one of my favourites off that album.
Wearing Rose de Petra. I love it on a cold day. My morning matching tea was F&M Rose Pouchong.
Stay warm and safe NSTers!
You too, adanst!
Tuesday!
Am in Aromatics Elixir after a shower in Nigritella, a shower gel I found at the back of the bathroom vanity! I have no idea how long I had it! I smell old school fabulous- even though I am about to go do this at home barre session! 😛
Hope the barre session was extra special then!
Sotd is Queen of the Night.
I’m trying to clean my house today before work. I have a late shift and a repair person is coming early tomorrow to check my furnace. It’s been making unfamiliar noises.
I hope it’s a quick cheap fix!
Fingers crossed!
Eek, it was unfamiliar noises (sounded like an engine revving every so often) that I think was the start of the leak I had a little over a month ago. I would put some absorbent rags near the furnace if I were you.
Your furnace woes last month are what prompted me to call right away!
I hope it turned out to be nothing!
I hope it’s nothing major!?
Oooooof. Good luck with your furnace! ??
Still wondering if I have any FBs that came out this year – it really would take me only 2 seconds to check. Meanwhile, I haven’t worn Hiris for a while, so that’s my scent for today.
Smelling great in Hiris.
Vanille De Tahiti by Perris Monte Carlo which is a 2020 release I sought out a decant of b/c vanilla.
It’s well done but maybe too much ylang for my personal tastes.
She-ra, have you tried Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac? I only ask because, vanilla. 🙂
Not yet…I have tried Blessed Baraka and Side Effect. Side Effect is good but excessive iso E to my humble nose.
Well today is again, Tango for me. It’s a beast when it comes to longetivity however even though it’s a very deep fragrance, it’s never too heavy as long as I keep spritzing a bare minimum. It’s crazy because what I eat most in my food are hot, chili peppers. Or serrano. I love to eat HOT food. But I also LOVE black pepper a lot too. And what I live about Tango most is its gorgeous, black pepper- hot top and middle notes. Plus it’s just so aromatic and of such high quality it’s beautiful. I am so happy. Actually it smells BETTER than I expected. I wanted an amber perfume. And I got one in Tango. But the extra I keep getting is this delicious, spicy, beautiful black pepper. I’m in bliss!!
I like pepper in perfume, too. Have you tried CdG Blackpepper, CdG Black, L’Artisan Poivre Piquant, or Perles de Lalique? All very peppery!
Actually I would love to try the CdG blackpepper. I was just thinking I would love a sample of it. I used to (happily) own & love Poivre Piquante. I had all three:Safran Troublant, Poivre Piquante and Piment Brulant. But Poivre Piquante was always my favorite back in the day.
AC poivre electrique is good
LOVE THE NAME: Poivre Electrique. I am about to Google it now, thanks for the suggestion!!
I am the opposite with Black pepper. I tolerate only small amounts.
I think the only perfume I have tried with black pepper in it is ELdO’s Eau de Protection. And the pepper doesn’t stick around for very long on me with that one.
My only 2020 release is A Sweet Pastry in Paris which I will probably end up using for some time most days because *comfort*.
However – currently in Snow Fairy, shower gel, body conditioner and one spritz under shirt!
Has anyone tried Montale’s Sweet Flowers? The notes seem perfect for me but it gets compared to La Vie est Belle which I’m weirdly anosmic to…
I envy the fact that you are anosmic to La Vie est Belle. Wish I was.
?laughing out loud by myself on break. Thanks!
Well, I guess it succeeded in being polarizing.
My friend sent me a sample set for a Christmas present so I actually can now participate in the CP! The set was from A.N. Other, and it contains two 2020 scents which weren’t available when I sampled the brand in 2018. Today I’m trying SN/20, which is a nice osmanthus scent. There’s something else there but I forgot to check the notes so I’m trying to figure it out without help.
I did buy a travel spray of Madie sometime early in the pandemic, and it is a 2020 release but it’s so beachy that I don’t want to wear it in December.
What a nice gift!
Hello all, Ive been lurking for a bit but rarely comment. This community is wonderful, and I’m so grateful for it.
So far today is only JM Cattleya Flower body spray; I’m doing some much needed cleaning and clearing. I’ve been wanting to revisit Coco Noir so maybe later today. As for 2020, I’ve only purchased a travel of Lost Cherry during Nordstrom anniversary and a couple of teensy tiny Fendi things off eBay, so I’ll need to do some research.
Hello hello
Yay! Welcome!
Hey there! Tell me more about the teensy tiny Fendi things!
Hi – I lurked forever before joining the party. Let us know about that Coco Noir. I was an early adopter, but something about the grapefruit part kinda lets me down, then it fights it way back into my heart.
Hiya! Welcome!
Woo hoo to lurkers un-lurking! I just finally joined the Lost Cherry fan club. Hope you’re enjoying yours.
According an article, whose link Robin graciously flagged, Dolly Parton has signed a licensing fragrance deal. She apparently hopes to have both high priced and low priced items and a range of products. (She uses some euphemism for the price differentials, but we know what she means).
The hope of multiple markets is smart business sense, but it also fits with my general idea of Parton. There is the “high class image
the musician/songwriter with the pure Apalachian voice and gospel/blue grass base.
And then there is the Dolly with all the wigs, the bright red lipstick, the plastic surgery and that Barbie Doll figure.
There is the school girl Dolly with the patchwork coat of many color who becamethe Superstar Dolly with gowns of many colored crystals,-made no doubt by her personal costumer.
Anyway, I keep trying to imagine her signature fragrance-something that merges the scent of hairspray and the smell of mountain spring which lasts as long as that high note in “I will always Love You” seems to last when Whitney sang it, but feels as soft and wistful as the song when Dolly originally sang it.
Oh and the scent should definately have posies, the flower once thought to fight the plague, honoring Dolly’s contribution to plague fighting (For those of you who do not know, Parton gave Vanderbilt a million dollar contribution toward Covid 19 research, funds which were used to develop the M-RNA vaccine).
Ok, I like this game. I want the Dolly signature fragrance to smell like something I’d put on for a live show–something loud enough to be smelled over the audience and glasses of beer. I agree with her “two sides,” and I think it could be a really well made trashy scent, if that makes any sense?! 60’s/70’s Vintage Shalimar feels that way to me. Lots of the big hair scents from the 80’s, too. So, maybe it’s like Opium? All sillage and sequins.
Those would be good guiding lights for Ms. Dolly, for sure! 😀
I’m a big fan of Dolly so this is exciting news indeed!!
I’m very interested in this – thanks for letting us know.
I had read that about Dolly giving money to Vanderbilt. Have you ever watched Ken Burns’ Country Music on PBS? She’s an amazing person.
I didn’t catch all the episodes, but the ones I did were fascinating, even for someone who isn’t a huge country fan. Fascinating history.
I’m keeping an eye out for the Dolly Parton perfume! I do hope that I like it…
She should name the trashy one Jolene!
? Yes!! You are so brilliant!
Are you familiar with The White Stripes version? That’s my personal fave.
I know it’s been covered by many people. I will give that one a listen to tomorrow.
Beautiful tea set.
I was wearing Jo Loves Red Truffle during the day, gourmandy, earthy fig suitable for fall, and this evening Les Neréides Imperial Opoponax.
I love the aesthetic of Jo Loves although I have never tried anything from this line
I love the red boxes, some of the scents did not impress me, and some lack originality, but her gardenia (without tuberose which I don’t like with my gardenias) is really good and Green Orange and Coriander too, I bought it for my brother.
Cuir Ottoman. Trying to make a concerted effort to use my decants before they all evaporate. This one is perfect for the chilly day.
I always say I am going to make that effort, then I give up 🙂
You smell(ed) fantastic today.
I’m wearing Narciso (white cube) because Cormoran Strike bought it for Robin in Troubled Blood and I wanted to know what she smelled like. You all will understand, I am sure.
She-Ra, I wanted to say re: your yesterday’s comment about kitties that two is probably better, and it’s probably best if they are close in age. Dapper the kitten has Bertie Wooster to play with, but Bertie is at least 10 years old and sometimes gets fed up with kitten antics. Also, besides the laser pointer, the circular track with the ball trapped inside has paid for itself a hundred times over, and it was cheap to begin with. Dapper sits in the middle and swats the ball for minutes at a time.
We are understand. Although we do need to expand the author’s olfactory horizons beyond mall designer scents
Yes, I totally understand. What do you think? I love that one, you smell great!
I do like it. I didn’t think I would, I usually prefer bolder scents, but it’s very pretty and lasts quite a long time.
Unfortunately don’t know the book. I think Turin described Narciso as a massive cream-coloured pair of Mary Janes (those cross-bar school girl shoes). I’ve been vaguely wanting it for years cos it now makes me think of Alice in Wonderland 😀 I think the point was that it appears demure but is surprisingly bold!
I’ve only just remembered what I put on this morning. Encens Flamboyant by Goutal. This one is so beautiful and quiet.
I was supposed to have a computer course this morning but there were serieus network issues so it was cancelled. But I did get the chance to spend three quarters of an hour in a classroom with two fellow human beings. I need very little these days to have good time.
Your SOTD is probably my favorite Goutal. There are a lot of wonderful things to choose from with that house.
My evil bay purchases arrived. The Dyptique body balm is amaaazing — a really nice sweet orange scent? the glass packaging is really luxurious. I love this body care line.
The FM Eau de Magnolia travel spray is nice but much stronger in this format then my dabber sample. Less sweet too. I will have to wear it a few more times.
My Queen’s Gambit inspired vintage house dress buy is a total fail. Too tight and not flattering. I love buying vintage but doing so online is too tricky.
Sorry about your vintage dress. I’ve had the same experience with vintage clothing always being either way- or slightly-too small and not flattering. But Yay for your perfumes.
The lack of size standardization across time is so tricky. But yes at least there’s the perfume
Oh no.☹️ Sorry about the dress. Buying clothes online can be tricky for me unless I know the brand well, especially jeans and bras!
Sorry for your frustrating experience! I have no patience for buying vintage or consignment. I can only do with very specific brands (Eileen Fisher) where fit is super forgiving and I 100% know my size.
I have a candidate for the CP even though I have a good number of choices (e.g. all the Scents of Wood perfumes).
SOTD = Slumberhouse Ore
So wonderfully good – woozy (new word for woody-boozy ?) amber.

In other news, I should link to a NYT article about how to maintain physical balance, especially relevant for people getting older. The key, as I understand it, is to be able to break a fall appropriately and strengthening core / leg muscles via squats and / or standing up from a sitting position helps train your muscles.
That article is great!
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/14/well/live/elderly-balance-falls.html
Just be careful not to let your knees go ahead of your toes when you do the sitting-back-on-a-stool exercise.
And don’t try to go low, because you need to keep your back straight, and it’s hard to go low without leaning forward.
As long as the thigh muscles engage and it feels intense, you are gaining strength.
This is standing practice, THE foundational exercise for serious Tai Chi.
Thanks for linking! It’s definitely great practical advice.
So, so, so important! I’m in my mid-40s and know I need to be doing more NOW to prepare me for later.
I live with an 85 yo fall risk. It’s terrifying to be just a few feet away and see her fall—and not be able to do anything about it. We’ve been lucky so far. (For those wondering: multiple walkers and canes in the house, but getting a stubborn senior to use them consistently is an ongoing Fun Time.)
SOTD is Les Indemodables Musc des Sables. Cozy and comforting. Really enjoying this one.
I’ll have to come back later to read C everyone’s posts!
Hello! Commenting on the same day as the post — better than I’ve been doing. lol!
Scent at bedtime and into this morning was Atelier Cologne Love Osmanthus. It’s not fair for me to judge on one try, but on this first try, it was not a love. The Different Company Osmanthus retains its place as my osmanthus love. I like Roger & Gallet’s take on it, too. However, I think AC’s Love Osmanthus is relatively new, so I guess I got that part of it.
Have you tried Ormonde Jayne’s Osmanthus? That’s my Osmanthus love.
Yes, I liked that one quite a lot, too. 🙂
Chanel Biarritz today from a sample. Just thought I would try it again. It’s fine, perfectly pleasant. It’s a 2018 release. Time flies, doesn’t it?
I really like that one. Yeah, time does fly!
Went from 9.5 hrs sleep Sunday night to under 7 last night, so am dragging.
Spritzed on Black Perfecto and went for a walk over by Rockefeller Center and then down to Bryant Park. Figured I should try get some walking in before the snow starts tomorrow. Pretty quiet out there.
Dental cleaning tomorrow morning first thing. They want me to arrive early to take a rapid-result COVID test before my appointment. There’s a co-pay, which I have to cover and find mildly irritating. But it’s probably a good idea to protect the staff and patients.
That test sounds worthwhile. The practice I go to has great precautions but not rapid tests (at least not the last time I was there).
I wonder how often the staff test themselves…? I’m guessing every few days. My dental office has implemented lots of changes but no rapid test, sounds like a great idea.
Haven’t applied perfume yet but am planning on Jacomo Parfum Rare, and one of the less talked about greats.
There is this review, which is a wonderful essay, but I personally don’t find the Coeur de Parfum gloomy or subterranean.

You will smell wonderful – Parfum Rare, or Coeur de Parfum as it is also known, is one of my favorites. The notes from Fragrantica say: “Top notes are Cardamom and Bergamot; middle notes are Geranium, Coriander, Carnation, Rose and Orris Root; base notes are oak moss, French labdanum, Patchouli, vetyver and Sandalwood.” What’s not to love? I have the edt and a parfum and both are wonderful and quite powerful.
It’s so good — glad to know you love it, too!
And a lemming was born. I have Silences but hadn’t heard of Rare.
SOTD as I mentioned in a comment above is Felanilla. I took a day off to have time to myself as once school closes that won’t be happening. (Also they capped how much vacation time we can roll over this year to force us to use it, so I was going to lose the day, anyway.) I got my first massage in a year; I have a great studio that is following every precaution to a T.
And I’ll cap the day off with a dinner out alone with my spouse for the first time since…before the pandemic? Our former babysitter pulled some shenanigans earlier this year where she charged a neighbour extra for “babysitting” our daughter as well when she was in our shared courtyard, even though my spouse and I were both in the house with wide open windows monitoring her, plus the babysitter was wearing her mask under her nose…so, no more. My kid’s a tween now and she just finished a Red Cross babysitting course, so she gets to stay home by herself. She’s psyched, as are we.
This is one CP I definitely can’t participate in. I’m so behind that my wishlist is all perfumes from five years ago or more, so everything I suspect I’m getting for Christmas even is old.
Wow, sounds like a great day all around, although it is a bummer you can’t carry vacation days over.
Enjoy your dinner out! Yes, it’s very liberating for both parents and kids when they can start staying home by themselves.
Yay for “alone time”!
Have a great time. We can carry over up to 10 days and can use them until June 30; we basically got an extra 3 months to use them. I have to be smarter with spreading out the 7 weeks I’ll have if I don’t want to carry over another 2 weeks into 2022. And I also have 3 personal days.
Seven weeks! Very jealous.
In the very last drops of Jorum Studio Trimerous, a gorgeous buttery iris perfume. I see a small bottle in my future because Jorum sells a 15 ml size! No CP points since this little beauty was released in 2019.
Oooh, that sounds lovely.
15 ml is such a perfect size.
That’s my perfect size. It used to be 30 ml but as my collection grows my size preference diminishes
Slightly discombobulated on this Tuesday. I’m very glad I got groceries late last week and didn’t have to do it today. Weather Watches and Warnings are all over the place for tomorrow. We shall see what happens…
SOTD = yet more Reve d’Ossian EdP from the sample stash.
Stay safe! and warm! Jalapeño.
Thanks madtowngirl! I’m planning on hunkering down and staying put! Looks like the dreaded “wintry mix” might be what I get from this storm, ugh.
Methinks we’re in for snow and wind. I just hope I don’t lose power! Stay safe!
I hope that everyone keeps lights & heat tomorrow!
I hope so too!
I started the day in Essential Perfumes The Musc. That faded pretty quickly. Now I’m home, putting my feet up while dinner cooks and applied some Coromandel. Yum.
Brr! It was freezing this morning. We were in the single digits at 7 degrees.?
The big buzz here is the vaccine. The first doses were given to frontline workers starting yesterday. This tunnel has been so long, but I think I can finally start to see a little light. Feeling very hopeful this evening.
Brrr. That’s cold!
I know! I couldn’t believe it when I got up and checked my phone. My car barely warmed up on my 2 mile commute. Thank god for heated seats.?
That’s the kind of cold I use expletives to describe!
Lol. There was no wind though so that helped.
Are you in line to get one?
Well, in theory yes, now when that will happen I don’t know. I’m guessing it’ll be a few months. Although I still work in the hospital and see patients, I am no longer doing direct patient care so I am in the second tier. There has been a certain number of vaccines allocated to my state and they will immunize people in waves to allow for staffing issues due to side effects (staffing has already been stretched thin at the big hospitals here) so….tbd, I guess I just need to wait and see when it’s my turn. This was probably a longer answer than you were looking for.??
1k doses will supposedly be given out at my Mom’s hospital next week. Crossing fingers she’s in the group. Since she’s been taking care of COVIDs don’t see how she wouldn’t be. But we will see.
Ohhh it sometimes happens to me that I completely forget about the existence of a certain fragrance until someone mentions it… Baume du doge… I used to have a sample of it and LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. Now Robin reminded me of it!!
I think it was one of the ones they discontinued? But don’t take my word for it because I’m not sure.
SOTD was Aftelier Alchemy, from the 2018 re-release. The weather here has been overcast and gloomy for days now, so I am pretty happy that the forecast for tomorrow is for sunny skies. I don’t mind chilly weather at all, as long as it is sunny, but gloomy, gray, drizzly days really get me down.
Oooh, you smell nice! I will wear mine before the end of the year!
I’m on a Caron kick and wearing Nocturnes today. It went on bright and pretty but I can barely smell it a mere three hours later. Aldehyde and orange, too sweet. Yesterday’s Parfum Sacre was better. All the Carons seem to blend together. Saw my surgeon for a follow-up on my hand. He said it looks good and to come back in a week to get the stitches out. It still hurts!
I’m pleased to hear that your surgeon said you are healing well. ?
Glad you’re healing well!
Great news on hand! Still amazed about the dangerousness of a cat bite.
