It's Friday and Universal Children’s Day. Our community project for today: for Bo Derek's birthday, wear a perfume that you would rate an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in a solid 11 that also works well for pretending you're on the beach at Las Hadas in Manzanillo (preferably, without any of the characters from the 10 movie) — Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower.
Reminder: on 11/27, pick your Black Friday poison...wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Perhaps a bit Cliche – Chanel No 5 Parfum
No. 5 is a cliché like Starry Night is a cliché, so don’t you worry about choosing one of the classic works of art.
?
House twins!
You smell beautiful!
Never a cliche! You smell wonderful.
Thanks!
I’m such a broken record when it comes to “the greatest”, but as usual I’m wearing vintage Parfum d’Hermes, which is like a recapitulation of the last century of perfumery in a single bottle: aldehydic, slightly bitter and green up top, then a massive floral oriental shading into an oakmossy chypre with incense and a hint of leather. It is purely astonishing, an actual work of art.
I believe I have a mini of that one, and it is all that you say. You smell glorious!
I have recently started exploring more classic fragrances. I do not know this one. Let me add it to the list.
I’ve never tried that one. Will have to look it up – you make it sound great.
I bet you smell fabulous, pyramus! The closest I’ve ever got to sniffing this is Rouge EdP. Do you find Rouge similar, as I’ve read?
Rouge has been launched twice, to the best of my knowledge. The first time was in 2000, in a red bottle modelled after the original Parfum d’Hermes bottle: I thought it was okay, but obviously not the masterpiece that the original had been — simplified and stripped down, as these things generally are, an acceptable fragrance, but not as good as the preposterously plush, complex, expensive-smelling PdH. Then it was I think discontinued for a while, or at least ignored, and relaunched in the house bottle, only red glass. I haven’t tried that one because I don’t see why I should bother: it isn’t going to bear much resemblance to the original, or at least not enough.
I have a half ounce of the vintage extrait in that stirrup bottle, and if it doesn’t go south on me, I’ll have enough to last the rest of my life: I dole it out in drops. But such spectacular drops!
Thanks, pyramus! Yes, I have the original oval bottle of Rouge.
Now, I’m off to hunt! ?
A vintage triumph! I actually bought a 200ml splash bottle of this just an hour ago! You smell like heaven.
Oh, well done! That will last you an eternity.
Headed to PT this morning, but will be in Organza Indecence when I get back. Definitely an 11 out of 10 to me. ❤️
I remember finding a bottle of this at my local Ulta quite a while ago, when I first started my perfume journey. It was really lovely and I should have bought it!
Wow, it sounds crazy that OI was at Ulta! I see it a lot on evil bay…the minis are pretty reasonable.
I remember when OI was at Ulta. I almost bought it then. Waited until years later to get my hands on it.
You smell like an 11!
Thanks! I’m swanning around, feeling like an 11. ?
Has been too long since I wore OI!
Me too, Robin! And I have a little family of bottles, so there’s no excuse not to spray away…
Hi, twin! Yes, we smell wonderful ❤️❤️.
?♀️
Friday! I made it!
Tom Ford Shanghai Lily.
woot woot! you made it!
Friday vibes are the best,
especially before a holiday. 🙂
Thank you all for your beautiful birthday wishes yesterday. Every one of them was very, very special to me! ❤
Wearing Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar an 11 out of 10 scent for me.
Sunny and warmer day today. Drinking my second cup of coffee with a toast and feta cheese.
So glad is finally Friday!
Have a safe and happy day, everyone! ?
Oh darn – I missed it. Yesterday was super busy. Belated but sincere happy birthday wishes, pl67!
Thank you, Springpansy! ?
Toast and feta.. yum!
Passing you some ??!
gorgeous, PHI is a work of art. 😀
happy belated birthday,
you know you get to celebrate all weekend, right? 😉
All weekend and beyond, for sure! ??
Late, but many happy returns.
Thank you, Aurora! ?
Sorry I missed the Bday!
Happy Belated birthday,I hope you have a wonderful year M!
XO
Thank you, Johanob! ❤
Missed it yesterday! Didn’t log in. So, happy belated birthday! Just keep celebrating all weekend.
Thank you, LizzyB! ?
Belated birthday wishes for a wonderful year ahead from one Scorpio to another ?! (I celebrated one day before you?.)
Almost Birthday twins! Happy belated birthday to you too, Laila! I hope you had a very nice day! Let’s hope for another year full of great things! ?
Glad that cold snap we had is gone!
Let’s enjoy this short break now!
Yay for Friday and toast! Glad for your birthday and many more!
Thanks!
I was thinking what perfume ranks 11 and still stays in my Chanel themed week and I am going with Coco.
To keep with people keeping their social distance I am wearing a few drops of the parfum. It’s a powerhouse in one drop.
Chanel makeup
Happy Friday tutti!
I would like to see (and sniff!) your forcefield in action.
Beautiful! 🙂
Coco is an 11 for sure! You smell wonderful.
You smell great!
I once worked in an office where the director wore Coco, lots of it. I could always tell she was around because of her scent trail haha. She also had great and bold taste when it came to her outfits. She had beautiful grey hair and looked amazing in magenta pinks, bright yellows and cobalt blues.
Minus the grey hair, your director and I follow the same color pallets.
House twins indeed! Coco was my other option for today! I’m jealous of your parfum concentration ☺️ Must smell incredible.
Although I would have thought you’d go with Shalimar?
Coco is an 11 in my book!
Not to brag but the parfum is from the 90’s , I have one of those fragrance wardrobes that Chanel use to do
Oh, I remember those! They were beautiful.
Coco is beautiful.
I am not participating in the CP, because I’m wearing (from a sample) Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental. Now I remember why I didn’t finish the sample – it reminds me of the smell of crayons, and not in a good way.
uff! I don’t love the smell of crayons either
Scent twins! Also not participating in the CP, but ended up wearing this because I was testing out my vetiver perfumes. I like this for about five minutes, and then it starts to smell too musty on me. Now that I’m sniffing my wrist, I can see where you’d get crayons from it.
I’m going to layer something more joyful over it as soon as I get out of the office.
I’m in DSHperfumes Muresque. I’ve tried lots of blackberry/musk perfumes and this one is the 11. PSA that it’s limited edition, but she still has a bit on her website. Go check it out and get lost down the rabbit hole. I’m not affiliated, this is just a shameless plug for Dawn–she is so lovely and so creative. (20% off code Bright20.)
Robin – any words about the one you wore yesterday? Adrenaline and Scorched Earth – love the name. Not requesting a review, but just a sentence or two? Did you get the coffee? What is the dirt note like – is it patchouli or dusty earth?
Wore that yesterday and I agree it’s amazing
And you’re the reason I tried Muresque in the first place!
Mild coffee, mild earthiness — not patch to me. I think she used mitti, so a sort of dusty clay smell. It is one of her botanicals, so not a powerhouse, and fits in nicely with her meditation series.
I really like this whole series but none of them are long lived.
Thank you!
So 11 out of 10? I am going with Bvlgari Black, which I am hoarding, I have 4 bottles in my stash. I find that it has a short tail, so apply generously. Happy Friday, my scented friends!
Black is one of my earliest purchases post rabbit hole, but I’m easily distracted by new and shiny, so I never wear it now – but you smell good!
Yum, good call.
Bvlgari Black as well! I remember buying it when it was released. It never fails that someone asks what it is in all the years I’ve worn it. And then they bought a bottle!
SotD is MAAI by Bogue.
Its 11 on a scale of 10 for lots of categories ? because Gardoni hardly holds back.?
White flowers and aldehydes on a funky and mossy base. I love it!!!
go big, go Bogue! 😀
MEM was on my short list of choices for today.
Haha yup Bogue is Big ?
And MEM is great as well!
CDG Kyoto 🙂 Rediscovered a decant of this and now am resting in a bed of tranquility.
My fiancé has all of next week off for Thanksgiving, and I am burning with envy. No matter, I can’t wait for our quiet little two-person (+1 cat) Thanksgiving next week.
A bed of tranquility – lovely. Happy Thanksgiving next week!
Thank you, and a very happy Thanksgiving soon to you too!
Hi Koyel, I don’t know if you already saw this last night but MJ Dot is showing up at tjmaxx now. In case your friend is still looking for it.
Wow, your memory is amazing–I had completely forgotten about this until just now! She’s kind of, uh, over perfume by now 🙂 She tried out Glossier You and some of the Tom Fords in pretty blue bottles and now has just given up on perfume altogether. I have hopes of changing her mind someday in the future though. But thank you for the tip about Dot 🙂
two person + cat sounds great!
It could certainly be worse 🙂 it’s a nice little family!
Two-person Thanksgiving twins!
High five to my tiny-gathering twin!
Was going to wear Habanita, but got distracted by the last dregs of my Ubar decant. . . I could be wearing a Dior pirate outfit with this one (https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/fall-2020-trends-fashion-week#&gid=28&pid=2), but you’ll not be surprised that I’m in sweats and a thick sweater . . . because, well, you know. . .
I wouldn’t mind the wearable quilts for chilly mornings at home!
You smell great Oakland Fresca!
Woke up in no 5 edp this morning. Wearing Happy right now for something undemanding. I am going to find out shortly what next week’s work schedule looks like because it looks like my aunt and grandma are coming over for Thanksgiving and have to clean the house and finish the grocery shopping.
you smell wonderful!
Nuits a Doha. 11 out of 10 in terms of how often I mention it here. It’s my most “me” scent right now – but I’m fickle and might be much less moved by this a year from now. I placed a Luckyscent order for samples and it shipped yesterday – if I’m very lucky, it will be here tomorrow.
You are less fickle than me though – I am typically besotted with a scent for a few weeks 😀
I’ve noticed that my tastes in perfume have shifted over the last 3 or 4 years.
My bestest, bestest perfume love is Iris Ganache and the thing that takes it from perfect to beyond perfect is that it is what I was wearing the first time that my husband told me he loved me
Now that is a great memory ?
❤️ that would make almost any scent an 11 out of 10 for me ?
Beautiful! ❤
Love the memory!
You smell perfect!
?
That’s above an 11!
That’s a 20!
Awwwwwww that is so cute.
I’m not wearing my own greatest favourite which is Paris. I did want to wear rose so chose Mohur extrait in stead. I love this one, and it’s incredibly beautiful.
Philistine that I am, I prefer Paris 🙂
Philistine? Nah. Paris definitely belongs in the 10+ group.
Oh, it does, but Mohur seems so much more refined. Paris is ever so slightly trashy, which is precisely what I love in perfume.
Paris is fantastic.
In Amouage Love Mimosa, I can easily rate this 11/10 or even higher <3
I have a little sample of this one which I’m saving for special occasions. You smell great indeed!
thank you
SOTD is Desert Flower from American Perfumer. This is a BIG floral perfume that could easily wear you rather than the other way around, but I love it.
Wonderful stuff
Nice to see you back!
Waving HI!
Hello there!
Hi eveyone! I guess I have been MIA for a while. This has just been such a crazy year. For some reason I just lost interest in perfume for a while.
I did get some good news the other day. Just today, I had a “live” (via Zoom) audition for Jeopardy!. Now to wait and see if I make it through to the next round. I am wondering who they will get to be the new host. If they are still auditioning contestants, I assume they are planning to continue the show. I will miss Alex Trebek.
Oh wow! Good luck!
Nice! So exciting.
I went to ULTA last night and tried Givenchy L’interdit Intense. It smelled good on the strip so I sprayed it on my hand. My skin turned it to sour milk! This morning I put on my coat and it smelled wonderful, similar to Carnel Flower. So I will copy Robin for the cp in CF, which does not smell like sour milk on me.
It’s time for my annual Turkey woes. I bought a 14 pound frozen turkey this morning. Do I keep it frozen or start thawing it now? Right now it’s in the refrigerator.
If you are having Thanksgiving on Thursday, I would take it out of the freezer Sunday afternoon or evening and put it in the fridge to thaw.
Thanks!
I’ve never cooked turkey, but good luck, I remember you cooked one last year, so pretty sure you’ll do very well.?
Every year it’s an ordeal for me. Lol. I hate cooking one, but I do it for my son. My daughter would just as well have a cheeseburger!
Yep, keep it frozen. I would pull it out of the freezer and into the fridge Monday morning if it were me.
Last year, I did Sunday and it still wasn’t all the way thawed, but I don’t remember how big it was.
Oh wow, last year we bought a fresh one. I usually thaw mine in the sink with cold water. Butterball has a How Long to Thaw calculator on their website!?
What part of the turkey does your son like? Maybe you could buy only part of a bird, and make things easier?
The part he likes best is that it looks like a thanksgiving turkey. Lol. One of the years when the turkey was very frozen, I ran out and bought a rotisserie chicken, so we could pretend ?
If it were me and if you have room in the fridge, I’d start thawing NOW. If it thaws before Thursday, the bird will be perfectly safe in the fridge until you are ready for it. Much bigger risk waiting until Sun/Mon, in case it doesn’t thaw all the way through.
I agree Koyel! They take longer to unthaw than you’d think.
Every year my turkey isn’t thawed enough. I put it in the freezer late this morning so I guess I will take it back out. I wasn’t sure if it would be safe in the refrigerator.
Adding.. I’m terrified of making everyone sick.
SotD = Masque Luci ed Ombre
Also thought about MEM (for lavender) or blue bottle Hiris (for iris), then Tam Dao (for sandalwood), and Avignon (for incense).
But it has been too long since Luci ed Ombre is my traveling companion for the day’s journey. My hand picked up the bottle before my head realized what was up.
This perfume is everything I love in a bottle – white flowers, incense, woods, a bit of mossy green. And a glorious tuberose that has been held in check just enough to feel perfectly refined, it’s like smelling the fresh flower through a crystal prism. Luci ed Ombre is the anti-Giorgio. 😉
Wow, that sounds fabulous!!!
oh, thank you, sistine! I do adore Luci ed Ombre. I never get tired of smelling it. 🙂
Anything that is described as the “anti-Giorgio” has to be worth a sniff! That is one of the few perfumes that I hated the first time I came across it.
same! I never could understand how Giorgio was so popular. 😯
I give it a NEGATIVE 11, haha, sorrrrrrry to anyone who loves it.
It’s one of my favorites, too. Your much better at describing it, though!
Happy Friday everyone. I’m wearing SL Iris Silver Mist today; the first time in a long while. Definitely an 11 for me!
I don’t wear this one enough – it’s off the scale for sure!
Yes! It’s still going strong after 10+ hours.
The best iris ever! You smell fabulous!
Thank you!! It’s almost the benchmark to measure all others.
Most definitely at least an 11!Lovely.
Thank you johano! I love it. It’s so rooty today.
Funny story; my sister also loves iris scents so I thought she’d love carrot seed oil since it’s also so rooty, like ISM. I encouraged her to buy the oil, but she ended up hating it! I was pretty surprised. She asked if I liked cilantro, which I do. She is in the “not like” camp for cilantro so thinks that is why she didn’t care for the carrot seed oil. I ended up buying the oil from her since she’d never use it, so now I have 2 bottles in my fridge!?
That is the most beautiful iris ever.
Thank you Nancy! I agree!
You smell wonderful. I cherish my vaporisateur of this; don’t covet more, which says something. A little of the best is enough!
Ormonde Woman for me – definitely an 11 out of 10!
Ormonde Woman is one of only a handful of perfumes that were instant head-over-heels love at first sniff for me. If I had to choose just 10 perfumes to wear for the rest of my life, that would be one of them.
Same here. But wouldn’t that be a tragedy, being limited to only ten, forever? 😉
Oh, no doubt! Every time I hear one of those “if you could only eat/wear/read/watch/listen to 10 (or 5 or 3 or whatever) foods/items of clothing/books/movies/albums etc. for the rest of your life” type of questions, I always want to know just how it would be that I would be limited that way? Who is going to impose that rule, and why?
Oh yes! Mmm!
? What a pic of Bo Derek! TGIF all!
Wearing an impulse travel spray purchase of V&R Bonbon Couture that just arrived w/ my Ulta order…sweet, fruity caramel so far.
My brother who lives in SF is driving down for Thanksgiving and we will hole up, see no other family and gorge ourselves for a week. 😉 Haven’t seen him since Xmas of last year. There will be many tears!
Enjoy your brother’s visit!
So glad he is coming to visit!
Nice,enjoy the visit!
Have a wonderful visit! Hope he likes the scent of vanilla.
LOL!
Enjoy your time with your brother She-ra!?
How nice, hope you have a perfect visit.
Enjoy your brother’s visit!
How fun! Enjoy your visit!!
A favorite of mine, from start to finish — Estee Lauder Private Collection.
That one is beautiful! Great choice 🙂
I just have a vintage mini, but it is a great classic
You smell fabulous. It is an 11 for me, too. I am now motivated to hustle over to my local Macy’s to check out the current version!
Just finishing up a decant of Etro Heliotrope, matching the watery day.
Oh!A favorite Heliotrope,you smell fabulous!
Hey Robin–house twins!! I’m in the off-the-charts beauty of Une Rose! Always at the top of my favorites list.
Everyone’s choices are so fabulous–if we all met in a perfumed flash mob, we would certainly uplift the planet! We could use a little uplift right about now.
Don’t know why I spent this morning trying to do business with Verizon, my bank, and the doctor’s office–just frustrated at every turn. I thought that automated systems (banking, etc.) were supposed to make life easier, but when there is a problem……let’s just say that I haven’t talked to a human yet!!! Help me….
I hope you get out of purgatory soon! I think if anyone ever filmed me as I pace around the house, shouting “Operator” or “REPRESENTATIVE!!”, or “No! Go back!”, it would garner quite a few laughs and I’d die of embarrassment. 🙂
Hey, and I thought about Une Rose — it is likewise an 11.
Phone menus are evil!
I put my whining about my delayed Dame order into the universe, and the universe delivered my package!
So I’m in a sample of Mimosa Mixte, a lovely mimosa/ylang thing. I’ve only tired a handful of mimosa scents, but this is my favorite so far, so I’ll take partial credit for the CP.
Happy Friday!
Oooh!!
Glad to hear that you got your Dame goodies! What all did you order?
A bottle of Vanille Farfelue, which I love! Hard to believe it’s $38. I also ordered samples of Desert Rose and Monsoon, and freebies Mimosa Mixte, Musc Neutre, and Singularity came along. I like all the samples, but the Rose and mimosa are (unsurprisingly for this floral lover) my favorites.
+1 for the universe! ??
My choice for today is vintage AdP Profumo. An 11 in the chypre group, for sure!
I chose a few “11”s to wear this week and put them all on my dresser top. Except for one, they were all vintage. I guess that’s because I’m vintage, too, lol!
Profumo is really special. I swapped for a bottle of that, but when I tried it, it felt much more like a gift. You smell lovely today!
Thanks. It’s nice to find a fellow Profumo-lover. Seems that this one completely fell off the perfume radar, which mystifies me.
Oops, this was supposed to be a reply to irisjasmine. ?
Hermes Eau Des Merveilles – it’s great, not 11 out of 10, but I am trying to finish my sample before Christams when I will open the travel set I bought for my husband to give to me.
Sounds like a gifting arrangement that works well!
Twins!!! But it’s definitely an 11 for me.
It’s definitely an 11 for me, too, but not one I wear in November. You both smell wonderful!
Vintage Opium EdT, which is a 11 on the nostalgic memory scale. I just don’t wear it enough. If all modern perfumes had such longevity…
Very long day at work, so we opened a bottle of a very nice white wine
I am jealous of the wine. I am very much missing the wines of my hometown, particularly Weissherbst. 🙁
Where are you from? We had a Weissburgunder from the Nahe
I was born and raised in Heilbronn!
Oh, I live in Kornwestheim near Stuttgart and am originally from München
I was in Munich some years back and I fell in love with the gargoyles 😀
I am pretty sure I have passed through – I think when I was small, we had family friends who lived there. I usually try to go back every so often (my family has since moved to Berlin, where they are originally from) but for nostalgia’s sake, I like to return to Baden Wuerttemberg when I can. Hi! 🙂
Hello!
I didn’t try perfume for the last couple of days, but today I’m trying samples.
I have three sample vials of Etat Libre d’Orange Fat Electrician, thanks to some lovely NST people. 🙂 I tried a dab of that for a little while. In that amount of time, I didn’t fall in love with it, but I found it nice enough. I’m glad to have gotten the chance to try it. Thank you! 🙂
Next I decided to try Papillon Bengale Rouge, before the little decant totally evaporated. Thank you to another lovely NST person for sending me that. 🙂 I like it. I don’t think my folks will, but today is a day I can go outside to enjoy it. (lol)
Oh, I remembered I’d done late-night shopping on Amazon that I’ll need to confess to Donatella.
I was innocently planning to get An African American Cookbook: Traditional and Other Favorite Recipes for myself for Christmas. And I figured I’d get the National Geographic Field Guide to Birds: Pennsylvania for Dad or me. (lol)
Then I wandered off and looked at “beauty and fragrance” and ended up getting a roll-on of the discontinued Pacifica Mediterranean Fig perfume. I gave mine away a couple of years ago and regretted it. I ordered a 1.7 fl. oz. bottle of Jeffrey Dame Labdanum Doux and a travel-size of Atelier Cologne Love Osmanthus. I figure if I don’t like the Labdanum Doux or Love Osmanthus fragrances, I can find someone to pass them along to. (lol) That late-night shopping is when my self-discipline falls away. I have a lot of pent-up shopping wishes to fulfill.
Follow-up on the Bengale Rouge: I washed my arms just after my folks came back from Costco and before my mother came upstairs, but my room still retained the scent. She stuck her head into my room to ask me about going to the library, and noticed the fragrance right away. It’s a big no for her, as I thought it would be. I think it’s lovely, though.
My mother’s taste in perfume is so different from my own that we seem to belong to different species!
Hope you love all your late-night buys 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
You might want to try the Fat Electrician in warmer or colder weather and see how you feel about it. I’ve noticed I have a couple of perfumes that are kinda fussy about what weather they are worn in.
It was something I’d been wanting to try, and thanks to NST folks, I got the chance. 🙂 That worked out fine for me. I may try it another time. Thanks for the advice. 🙂
SOTD = Olfactive Studio Iris Shot
Iris ?❣️ I have the 15mL travel spray. As I did in IG, it is thanks to Lucas and Undina that I was able to try this!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CH0njnWBEPc/?igshid=gln3bqlxctfy
In other news, I was not able to respond to comments yesterday because busy. Here’s a condensed response:
– AnniePerfumes (and others ?): Yes, Bergdorfs is doing an off-cycle event ($35 / $100 / $250 off $250 / $500 / $1,000 and there are higher tiers up to $1,000 off $3,500)
– she-ra: Angels’ Share is overall a sweeter and lighter fragrance while Side Effect is BEEGER. I will do a side x side this weekend
– lillyjo: thanks for the space heater warning. One can never be too careful. The one I opened and used looked to be a very steady boxy thing with a pressure sensitive auto-shutoff trigger if the box ever totters down.
– on the philosophical question, I agree that the graduate should be allowed to keep the degree and the punishment some kind of community service. I don’t feel comfortable with the scholarship for a deserving student is it may be cost prohibitive for a newly minted graduate to cough up the money and community service will technically be a good thing for more people.
– eschmelling: I would report the AP exam cheater.
And Merlin: it was my first and hopefully only respiratory-related issue with perfumes. All others for which I have issues have been contact dermatitis.
Thanks for all of your careful answers to so many different questions and comments!
I think if one has some kind of allergy one might be more prone to others. I don’t have as extreme a response as you did to any perfume but there are quite a few that make me ‘uncomfortable’ – my nose itchy and my eyes runny. It’s very annoying!
You are so right! I did not mention some food allergies because that would bore people and I also don’t ingest perfume ?
One of my worst instances of (thankfully rare) perfume induced contact dermatitis was during our meetup. That one Alien perfume REALLY misbehaved!
Yikes. And I got root beer from it!
??
Wearing vintage Bellodgia (au Bellodgia on the label, it was called), my favorite carnation.
Oh yum! One of several carnations I should have bought when I could.
Oh Robin, hoping some will cross your path, Caron has just discontinued it so maybe discounted bottles will reach the grey market.
Amazing stuff.
So glad you love it too. I even quite liked the modern and have some left kept as reference, Caron discontinued it a few weeks back along with some other classics, En Avion for eg, I had hoped to get a bottle one day and I even emailed them to ask why it was no longer on the website.
Did you get a reply?
Yes, they were very polite, I had written my email in French, of course?. I was so disappointed by this discontinuation, I have only a sample for reference.
SOTD!
Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensèe,definitely a 12 out of 10 in the Vanilla department!Gorgeous stuff, and I adore the color of the juice!
We had a HUGE cloudburst with hail and gailforce winds earlier,I was caught in it while driving and running errands.Had to pull off the road because the hail was fairly large, and it rained so so hard visibility was zero.No damage to my Peugeot, thank goodness, and made it safely home.
Happy Friyay!
XO
Glad you’re safe and “cloudburst’ is my dog’s middle official name! 🙂
You smell great. I’m so glad you made it home safely!
So glad you made it home safely!
You smell great! One of my favorites.
Wow, glad you were able to pull over.
Yow, that is some SCARY weather! Good call on pulling over and waiting it out.
Wow..did you get a video of this! please share..
Glad you got home safely and there was no damage to your car. That’s a crazy storm!
Vanilla Insensee is fantastic; I will have to find my bottle.
If anyone has ever driven to central Florida from “up North” in the summer, these type of cloudbursts (minus the hail!!) are well known. DH and I have crept along I-75 many times with only flashing tail lights of a car in front of us to see by!
That’s scary. My driving nightmare was driving in a fog in Sam Francisco. It was bumper to bumper, no way to pull off to the side and I just kept praying the entire way.
SotD Rive Gauche, a new-ish version. I am loving it, but it is not an 11. In fact, as soon as I put it on, Nahema popped into my head. I think that would have fit the CP better. I will follow up this weekend to see if Nahema is as “11” as I remember. I just recently got it. I’m enjoying hearing everyone’s choices – but I have not tried too many of them….
Vintage Rive Gauche was one of the first ‘grown up’ fragrances I wore back in the day; I thought it was so glamorous and so cool, definitely an 11, along with vintage Miss Dior.
I love vintage Miss Dior!!!!! I got mine, can you believe it, from a wonderful purchase on E**y of Dune. The seller included a vintage 1970’s Miss Dior parfum partial bottle as langiappe! See why I love perfume people?
Cool story!
I don’t think I’ve ever smelled Rive Gauche, which is strange since I know exactly what the bottles look like. ?
I just got some decanting bottles. I can send you some RG. Let me know at kclberry in the world of netttttt scape Dot net. Just give me some time to get it out.
Thank you! No rush… the holidays are nutty enough as it is. Especially this year. I will email later.
🙂
Rive Gauche! I haven’t smelled it for decades, but I remember that bottle! I loved it back then; new ‘old’ lemming created.
Cuir de Lancôme is an 11 for me. Mostly in the dry down.
The Bo Derek photo makes me think of seeing Julie Andrews in person to introduce various of her husband’s films, including “10”. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it stood up. Truly laugh out loud funny. Dudley Moore was a treasure.
Beautiful choice…
Cuir de Lancome is gorgeous.
Yes to Cuir de Lancôme!
I also love that my phone knows me so well that I type “lan” and it suggests Lancôme complete with accent.
Completely forgot to comment on your perfume Robin. Carnal Flower is an 11 to me as well, if not more. It’s my favourite tuberose, together with the much more gourmand Vamp. I will wear either of those tomorrow and imagine myself on a great beach.
My other favorite is Fracas, but CF is so much beachier. And boy, do I miss the beach.
Me too, and the mountains.
My SOTD is Sublime by Patou. Sublime is my perfect ’11’. a sophisticated and complex floral chypre with quite a bit of green thrown in.
It’s timeless, seamless, and very French – with an aldehydic opening. I’m wearing the EDP – slightly sweet, ambery, with a hefty dose of oakmoss. It has the perfect combination of allure and confidence without trying too hard.
I’m putting the finishing touches on Mr. Smokeytoes dark chocolate torte and we’re off for a nice hike in GG park. 🙂
Wishing Mr Smoky Toes a Happy Birthday and a wonderful year ahead! ?. Your dinner sounds delicious. And, yes, Sublime is a definite 11 and your description of the scent is perfect!?. I posted about my love for it last month – for me, it epitomizes the beauty of a glorious autumn day ☀️here in the Midwest. It’s one of my favorite October scents.
Omg, I love Sublime! Wish Instill had the nice bottle I bought back in 1995.
Happy Birthday to Mr. SmokeyToes! I hope he enjoys all those goodies you made. ???
Happy B-day Mr ST
Happy birthday to your hubby! I hope you both had a lovely day!
SmokeyToes, have you ever tried Ma Liberte edp by Patou? If you are interested, and are not impatient, let me know if you’d like a sample and one will drift your way; I just got some decanting bottles and am wanting to share this one. kclberry at the net scape dotty dot net.
Someone else may have already posted this–so forgive if it is a repeat. But, a couple of days ago (I just saw it today) the NYT did a lovely story on people’s scent memories called Welcome to Our Museum of Smells. That would be a great community project or weekend survey question for NST!

Thanks for sharing the article!
Yay for Friday! Lots of rain today and I’m in a super gourmand – A Sweet Pastry in Paris and it smells exactly like what it says on the box. 11 out of 10 for both smell and price. It is similar to Al-Rehab’s Soft but is buttery and richer. I smell lemon drizzle, pastry that is still steaming and quite a bit of musk.
Deeply envious of those who are in countries where they can buy an Zara perfume they like.
AnnieA, I didn’t expect Zara to be a rarity! Which country has it NOT spread to? Honestly I have found a lot of their scents nice but without projection and short-lived so this was my first purchase from them.
Zara definitely has limited distribution in the US. I can’t think of where a store is near me. Then again, I’m not looking that hard either.
So much is available in the USA – by post if nothing else – that I can’t imagine being too concerned!
There’s a store at the mall where we met. I stopped by last Saturday (no line!) and went to the perfume sections (men’s and women’s) but there was nothing that caught my interest.
I would recommend this one for people who like hyper-realistic sweet gourmands. It’s buttery but less so than (for example) Jeaux de Peau. I also like the performance – it projects fairly well and the lasting power / development arc is good: some perfumes last too long and just tire one out with a very persistent linear nature that starts to grate.
The other I would recommend from Zara is Vetiver Pamplemousse which is part of a different range. Reviewers complain that there is more grapefruit than vetiver but I definitely get both. This one is marginally more expensive than other Zara perfumes but its a beautiful representation of these two notes. I haven’t bought it because I’m less into bracing perfumes than I was in the past. Now I just want comfort ones!
I think the problem with Zara is that they have SO many scents and many of them, as I mentioned above, are fairly weak. Also, the brand is ‘fast fashion’ and apparently much is imitation. The ASPIP is by Nathalie Lorson and the V&P is by Jo Malone. (V&P is part of a series which is all by Jo Malone).
Eau des Merveilles for me. It’s definitely an 11, and a perfume I could easily wear anytime, anywhere.
Fri-YAY as Jada would say. What a week. Waiting in the drive-through COVID test line. What a year.
You smell wonderful! ❤️ EdM!
Yep, anytime, anywhere. You smell great! Best of luck on the testing!
Yuck on the testing, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Good luck on the COVID testing. I was going to pick L’Ambre des Merveilles but had been wanting to wear one of the Olfactive Shots.
I’m twins with Nancyleandros today in celebrating vintage Givenchy Organza Indecence as an ‘11’. I fell in love with it the first time I tried it all those years ago and am so glad I have a backup bottle. I love everything about the fragrance, especially its duality – it’s sweet and warm and comforting yet simultaneously smoky and sexy. My favorite November scent. ❤️
Wishing everyone a nice weekend ahead! I’ll be spending part of mine sorting through my many fragrance samples and choosing just the right ones to fill the pockets of the cute Santa Advent calendar I bought for my newbie perfumista granddaughter. Feeling doubly good about finding both a new home for them and putting a big smile on her face!
Delightful!
Aww, fun! You’ll have to report back on what she liked.
That’s going to be cool hearing your reports on the Advent calendar!
I just love your Advent calendar idea!
Hey twin! I can’t imagine a better gift for a newbie perfumista than a custom made advent calendar. You’re a very cool grandma!
What a fantastic idea! I wish someone would give me a fragrant advent calendar. I’d have to give it to myself ?
Today is also my mom’s birthday. It amuses me to no end that she shares it with Bo Derek. ??
SOTD = Agent Provocateur L’Agent EdP. I bought this as a blind buy, and it has worked out incredibly well! So it’s my 11. I will use my bottle and enjoy it.
Happy Birthday to Mom ?and wishing her a happy and healthy year ahead from one Scorpio to another. There seem to be a lot of us around this week!
Thank you Laila!
Happy Birthday to your mom!
Thanks lillyjo! I made sure to call her today.
Happy Birthday to your mom!?
Thank you! She made it to 90.
Happy Birthday to your Mom-
Tell me more about your SOTD
Thanks LTSG!
My notes on L’Agent say the following: “Smoky incense. Maybe a faint whiff of rose in the heart notes. Also something resin-y in the heart.” L’Agent doesn’t change much for me after the heart notes show up. It’s almost impossible to find a bottle of this now, as it disappeared shortly after it was d/c’ed.
Happy birthday to your mother in her new decade.
Wonderful to see l’Agent mentioned, the original Agent Provocateur didn’t work for me but l’Agent I treasure.
It’s a shame to see perfumes like these disappearing.
And thank you re: birthday well wishes for Mom!
Happy Birthday to your Mother, and many more! Does she have a favorite/signature scent?!
Thank you MossyBerry! No, my mom doesn’t have a favorite perfume. She stopped wearing it back in the late 1970’s. But I remember her wearing things from Avon before then. And good old Jean Nate splash in the summer.
Adding Happy Birthday wishes to your Mom!
Thanks Gail!
Happy Birthday to your mom. Coincidentally, it’s also my brother’s birthday as well as someone ? who just turned 78!
Fantastic age to reach! My dad celebrated a 78th last week – so best wishes to your whole family!
Heh! Great for your dad and family. The ? is a very public figure in a verboten subject here.
I remember when that movie came out. I was living in an apartment with three roommates the third year of college. Some guys would drove us to a big grocery store in the suburbs for a weekly shopping trip. As we all shopped for our organized and planned meals, they would sit at the entryway and rate women from 1 to 10. Ugh!
My choice today was Borneo 1834 by SL. There are maybe three patchouli scents that merit 10 or 11 and this is one of them. I find this a bit smoother with more of a tobacco note. The others would be Coromandel and Luxe Patchouli. Love them all.
Calypso I was in the company of guys doing that about 20 years ago and still remember the experience.
My two favourite patchoulis are Javanese Patchouli and Psychedelique but some dabs from my Lush solid Karma is sometimes fun too.
This reminds me too of a ’79 or ’80 time. One afternoon, when I went to our small Southern college’s dining hall, some fraternity guys were standing around the entrance rating their “sister” sorority members as they came in. I was not in that scene, and they rated their sisters as “10” but sort of dropped their placards and looked away for the rest of us. I heard protests among other women who were not in on the joke; I think some pushed back. I seem to remember, as I approached, I just felt annoyed but also something (I am optimistic by Nature) that made me wonder about those boys. I, in trying to stare them down, saw deference, even reluctance, at going through the ritual. Today I would guess a lot of them didn’t think of “girls” as only 1 – 10; I’d guess they wondered whether they were “10” and would rather not have had the question asked about anyone…..
Hey NST, I’ve been missing you! Inn usually a day or so behind on reading comments and have not been making time to post. But I’ve been keeping up with the CP. It gave me a chance to wear perfumes I truly love this week. Today my 11 is L’air de Rien. Others I’ve worn this week are Zelda, Une Fleur de Cassie, and Bois de Paradis. Gotta get back to work, but I’ll try to chat in the lazy weekend poll. TGIF!
TGIF!
TGIF! Nice to see you!
Waving hi!
I keep coming back to L’Air d’Rien! It is not what I *thought* I like, but I enjoy it so much! You smell wonderful!
SotD is JHaG Musc Invisible from a new travel spray. Twisted lily finally had them in stock, so I ordered one on Sunday and it arrived yesterday. I thought that was pretty fast shipping.
FriYay!? Time for a ? and catching up on comments.
a lot of perfume and some suds sound perfect for FriYay! 🙂
No CP points for me as I got into my sample box this morning. I branched way out from my usual (what I would describe as safe beginner picks) and tried Francesca Bianchi’s Sex and the Sea today. I wasn’t sure how I would do with animalic notes, but I didn’t find them problematic. Early in the day I noticed a lot of iris and I quite liked it, but many hours in I’m getting more tropical sweetness which I’m on the fence about.
My poor car has been totaled. I hoped it might be fixable since only the roof and windshield were squashed. However, we are very lucky that no one was in the car, Mr. Birdy’s trusty Subaru was unscathed, and we have little driving to do for the foreseeable future.
Good to hear that you and Mr. Birdy have a set of wheels that are unscathed.
Sorry about your car; so strange how insurance works but in the end, for most of us, if no one was hurt, just getting a car that works is top priority.
Wow! And I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get good value for it and also that you won’t be responsible for the deductible.
Ack. Sorry about the car. But yes—at least there’s little driving to be done right now.
oh no! It’s hard to say goodbye to a car.
I hope you found lot of joy in your perfume sample box. 🙂
Today has been: Miss Dior EDC, MDCI Fete Persanes and POTL.
So glad it’s Friday. Did more than 60 hours this week and need to relax!
Due to all that work, I’m a pretty boring person right now. Tomorrow I’m going to take a stab at darning! Will do some visible mending on a few merino wool sweaters I love (and only wear at home anyway) but have some moth holes.
I wore a pair of jeans yesterday that had seen better days. I may be motivated to darn…
There are a lot of inspiring pics on Instagram. I like when they use sashiko to mend denim.
Alas, I can’t fit in my pre-COVID jeans right now so it will be a while before I’ll be trying my hand at that.
