It's Monday and the last day of August. A very happy 75th to Van Morrison! (PSA: the next swapmeet will be on September 12, and we'll have a freebiemeet later in the month.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Burberry The Beat Elixir.
Reminder: on 9/4 we're doing Zest and Smoulder...wear a fragrance with citrus and smoky notes, or, layer two fragrances to achieve the same affect, or interpret the theme in whatever way works for your collection. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Burberry Spring Summer 2020 campaign.
Good morning nsters.
Been laying low for a few days. Having coffee and post shower some Fazzolari vetervisimo. Another overlooked bottle these past months.
Good afternoon apsara, & hope you are laying low for enjoyable reasons 🙂
just never-ending 2020 ennui, Robin.
Ah, yeah. Well, hope that gets better then.
It was surprisingly cool out this morning, only 10°C, so I wore something warm and oriental, Alfred Sung Encore from 1990. I will never understand why it wasn’t as big a hit as his first scent was, because it’s fascinating, a tuberose-y oriental with a sandalwood base and a spicy, indefinable note that turns out to be a dead ringer for Coca-Cola syrup (if you spray it on fabric and let it sit for a day, you smell pure Coke syrup — it’s instantly identifiable and it’s amazing).
My favorite Sung is Forever Sung. I want to smell Encore now.
Oooh, Sung takes me back to high school. I lived on an Air Force Base, and to get out of the heat in my house I often went to the Base Exchange nearby and cruised the (small) cosmetics aisle and tried on perfumes. Sung was my favourite of all the fragrances, though I never had enough money to buy it and family members gifted me things like Liz Claiborne, instead. Ah, the ’80s.
I have a tiny bottle of Encore and never heard a thing about it. It reminded me a lot of Jil Sander No. 4 so it reminded me of Poison haha. I’ll have to refresh my memory this week.
Ohhh, Sung is beautiful stuff. I’d never heard of Encore though!
A cousin gifted me Alfred Sung in the red bottle when I was a teenager. I don’t know what happened to the bottle ??♀️
That does sound fabulous – thanks for reporting!
It’s a ‘cloudy about to be rainy’ day here.
I am indulging myself in a second cappuccino and some perfume research.
It feels like a cozy perfume day, is it too early for Cuir De Lancôme?
It’s either that or Dryad for me today.
I sniffed Eris Parfums new ‘Green Spell’ yesterday at Arielle’s shop and I really liked it. The tomato leaf popped right out along with a perfect balance of galbanum and other wonderful green notes. It gave me the impression of a very high quality product and a beautifully blended one. (no affiliation)
Tomato leaf! Adding to my list of potential samples…
It’s a softer leaf than PdE’s Corsica Furiosa (which I love) and feels really Annick Goutal in design, at her best!!
Have you tried Memo Paris Italian Leather? Tomato Leaf!
Oh good to know!
I enjoy those kinds of days, sounds just right for Cuir de Lacombe. I got my decants out yesterday 🙂
You’ve convinced me. 😉
Ooh, Green Spell sounds lovely!
Please if you try it, let us know what you think.
I tried to get into the crowd funding but it was already FULL and closed That says something!
She did well enough and it’s due out in January 2021.
That Green Spell sounds good! Great name too.
I know, doesn’t it have a bewitching quality?(Have you seen the fingernail polish in the ad?
It’s striking!) It makes it memorable for sure.
I’ve been ambivalent to Green Spell so far. I got a 10ml spray in the Kickstarter campaign; I was and am happy to back her brand. It’s well done and the greenness does last a shockingly long time. It just doesn’t keep my interest for that long. I am sure I’ll get good use of my spray though.
I am so glad that you have already worn it! Okay, so please tell me how you found the ‘fig leaf’ in it? Was it noticeable and do you typically amplify that note? I do – but didn’t get a strong sense of it in my sample wear.
Any day is a good day for Dryad as far as I am concerned. I also really like Green Spell. You are right that it is softer than Corsica Furiosa, which I also love.
I was just about to ‘pull the trigger’ on a 50ml bottle of Corsica because I am mad for it.
Do you wear it in the colder months? I am not sure that I can resist it.
Have you tried Sisley’s Eau du Compagne?
I do mostly wear Corsica in the summer, but once in a while when I want to *remember* summer I wear it off season! I have not tried the Sisley. Perhaps I should?
I will send you some if you like, send me your email to:
thehippydolphin in the land of geeee male.
And I say pull the trigger. I have used half of a 100ml–and I have *a lot* of perfume. (I am also on to my second bottle of Dryad. Eek.)
Well an enabler pin goes to you Amy! I did it!! Thanks for the support. A 50ml is on the way. The new design.
And I just love the narcissus in Dryad along with the woods.
I picked up Miller Harris La Feuille a year ago or so, and it is a green leafy – tomato note – statement. I was just picking tomatoes for a friend today and I love that smell, though I am not sure I like to smell LIKE that!
Thank You MossyBerry, I am unfamiliar with it and am off to investigate. I will report back.
I’m continuing my sample cabinet shopping with Byredo Velvet Haze. I get the coconut within a cozy creamy milk. For some reason, I think the coconut is amplifying in me. Seems like a pleasant skin scent. But I have my usual morning stuffiness, so not easy to tell.
sounds like a nice scent 🙂 I hope your stuffiness gets better.
Wow! I hoped you would use my suggestion later, Robin, but I did not expect it to happen in just one week.
I did not try your perfume, but based on your review, it fits perfectly. I am sure you smell great.
I am in Guerlain Vetiver, a smoky citrus scent everyone knows.
You smell fantastic. I am putting Guerlain Vetiver on my list for this week.
Guerlain Vétiver counts as zest and smoulder! I got that one.
I was just thinking I need to have a close look at what other peeps are wearing this week to get some inspiration 🙂
It was a perfect idea for this time of year, in both hemispheres 🙂
Hi Glannys, ‘SmoulderZest’ sounds like an awesome idea also for a perfume name to me! Copyright it quick!
I like it ?!
You all can witness that I thought of it first! ?
You own it I’m just your patent attorney!?
I was running late, so when I got to work I put on a bit of Demeter New Zealand.
Ooh, I have this one! You smell nice!
Hey there,
Just to let the splitters for the Iris Torrefie know that many made payments but three ppl still need to pay and once those ppl do, I can go ahead and get the bottle:)
Commando but now craving citrus and smoke.
Can you remind me what your email address is again? I thought I saved it but can’t find it. ?
Sure:)
It’s kalliela11 at the hotmale:).
Now just waiting on 2 more payments:)
I Profumi di Firenze Fresco di Vetiver, which is a lovely lemon vetiver with a hint of pine underneath that last about ninety minutes on me. It is a nice ninety minutes.
That sounds lovely!
A gray and cool morning so I put on a dab of L’Ambre des Merveilles. Mmmmmm. Love it.
Love the name Zest and Smoulder – but not sure how much I like smoke with my citrus. And, in general, I love campfires but not on me, so I don’t have many fragrances I consider smoky. Maybe I can wear Mediterraneo to a beach campfire!
I love The des Merveilles series. You smell wonderful! 🙂
You can alter it to smoulder in some other way…
Your comment made me think of AG Nuit Etoilee which fits the CP.
hi there, Merveilles twin! 😀 You’re one of my favorite ambers.
Grey and cool and almost September, so wearing Paestum Rose, which always reminds me of Oktoberfest in Munich (which is mostly in September).
I’ll have to think creatively about smoke and citrus…hmm. I have lots of smoke and a fair amount of citrus but have never tried layering them.
How does it remind you of that? I’ve never tried Paestum Rose or been to the Oktoberfest, so…. 🙂
(but I love the Eau d’Italie bottles)
I’ve always wanted to attend the Oktoberfeste at least once. I wonder when they will be organised again.
Oktoberfest is a lot of fun, but definitely not something COVID-friendly. I do wonder when it’ll come back.
It used to be a lot easier to get into, though — when I was in university we could just all get together and go down and squeeze into a table. In 2008 it was harder to find space, and when we were there in 2015, it looked like almost everything required reservations — and reservations made nearly a year in advance.
I love beer, although I only drink it in small quantities. If I ever go, I intend to wear a Dirndl.
I did wear a dirndl Saturday…(if you have access to German Kleiderkreisel, great used dirndl deals to be found there).
Great! People in the Netherlands kind of make fun of Dirndls but I have a very soft spot for them.
Ha! Dirndl was a Reader’s Digest Word Power word in the February 2017 edition.
Dirndls are awesome! Definitely on my long list to hoist a stein at some Oktoberfest!
I didn’t think about that, but I guess that wouldn’t make sense to anyone but me. 😀
I found this bottle and a bottle of Sienne l’hiver on a sale table at Ludwig Beck (a nice department store) when I was visiting my spouse i Munich some years ago. They were 50% off! So I wore them for the whole two weeks I was over there, and they always remind me of fall / Oktoberfest.
What a great find!
You smell wonderful! ?
One of my all-time favorite roses, and one I’ve been craving lateky. You smell wonderful!
I went with Hermes Vétiver Tonka this morning. Not sure if it counts for zest and smoulder credit points, but i’m going to try and claim them ?
Nobody can stop you 😉
Plus, you smell great.
Twins! I took credit ?
?
You smell marvelous!
thanks, I do like a bit of hermes ?
Triplets with Hajusuuri!
Totally off CP in Amouage Dia. It has a Nivea vibe to it, and when I put on my Nivea lotion in the morning, I tend to think “must wear Dia again”. I love this scent! Happy Monday, everyone!
Dia is wonderful and doesn’t get mentioned a lot here.
SOTD: Mandragore 🙂
Nice !!
L’Eau d’Hiver, because I forgot to put on perfume this morning and this one lives downstairs in the fridge. 🙂
And it smells great.
Good morning Y’all,
I’m projecting more than normal at work in Perles de Lalique. On my skin it smells like Bactine Antiseptic spray, which is a smell I like and it totally works in my healthcare setting! Perfume Grinch hasn’t commented but there’s no way he hasn’t smelled it….. 🙂 Maybe he thinks it’s the cleaning supplies….
I love the smell of Bactine
Did they stop making the liquid Bactine that you can easily use to saturate Q-tips or cotton pads? I can’t find it anywhere.
I’m pretty sure they still make it! Burns like the devil, smells really good! HA HA
Maybe he secretly likes that smell too ?
Oh, I am a big fan of Perles de Lalique! I don’t think I remember what Bactine smells like, but this scent doesn’t really strike me as antiseptic or medicinal. I get lots of peppery rose.
In any case, you smell great.
I haven’t seen Bactine in ages! Or Mercurochrome.
Me neither; I will admit not only to like the scent, but as a kid, I tasted Bactine, too. The whole taste-smell thing, right?!
Happy morning, almost noon!
SOTD: Mandarine Basilic
Still thinking about that amazing farmer’s market sweet corn I had last night at dinner. Oh, summertime, don’t leave us yet!
Love Mandarine Basilic, you smell wonderful!
I love late-summer corn. Soooo delicious and sweet!
You smell so good! Mandarin basilic is great for summer.
SOTD Hermes Vetiver Tonka.
Happy Monday! ?
Beautiful! You smell so good.
Thank you! ?
What were the chances? We are twins / triplets with @ka_rina! You, of course, smell wonderful!
The stars must be aligned! ???. Of course we smell wonderful! ?
Chanel No 19 EDT
You smell wonderful too ?
Thank you 🙂
Dame’s Earth Mother for me today. Man, this is just so great. I love huffing my wrists. Hope I didn’t accidentally do it during online teaching!
I need to dig out all of my Dame samples and try them all again and make notes. Earth Mother sounds great.
I really enjoy this one. It is very easy to love.
I like Zest and Smolder and can think of a couple things to wear this week. Today it’s my latest bottle purchase, Coco Mademoiselle Intense. I got it at the nearest Ulta to me that carries Chanel fragrances, a 3 hour round trip, and I had enough Ulta points that the bottle was free! Ulta has 3 shopping levels and I’ve been the middle one, Platinum, for years but they raised the spending levels this year so my unused points will expire. Coco Mad Intense would fit in Zest and Smolder, there’s that lovely citrus opening and a big wave of patchouli that rolls in after about 30 minutes, it’s nice.
ULTA points are great! I’m still deciding how to use mine.
Popping in to say hello — I’ve been commando for nearly two weeks now on account of the horrific smoke here. Fragrance just feels like too much for my ragged respiratory system at this point! Really hoping we get a break in the coming week and can go outdoors again.
I hope it improves soon! Nice to see you.
I’m so sorry. Wow. Probably not easy to just pick up and leave for a bit but do folks to that? So many left NYC during the pandemic and are now coming back with the school year started up.
Oh dear. So sorry.
I hope you get a break soon!! We have not had much smoke this past week, but we are of course quite a bit further in the Central Valley.
Yikes. Be safe, stay safe!
Oooooooof. Sorry to hear that.
Woke up in no 5 body lotion. Wearing a dab of Theorema right now.
Yum.
Givenchy Neroli
Had a morning with the kiddos in Central Park
Hoping all those affecting by fires have some room to breath soon.
My posting maybe light (though smokey and citrus, Shalimar fits the bid for Friday’s CP so I have to wear that one) since we are moving!
Anyone know where they are selling the new Shalimar flanker? I asked BG and nothing in yet.
I will be back around Friday or sometime in the next few weeks.
Ciao a tutti
Oh, another wonderful perfume, I need to get out my Ysatis when the weather cools off. I think Shalimar’s powdery smoky vanilla is perfect for the CP. Good luck with the move! Hopefully, it isn’t too far and all goes smoothly.
Sipping a (tall) cup of French Press coffee.
No walk today, the air quality is rated ‘unhealthy’ so will be doing yoga for a workout.
Ciao Smokey Toes,
I thought of you this morning, I bought a new jam for my daily toast in the morning. It was delicious.
We are not moving far at all. Staying on the island called Manhattan 🙂
I am thinking of everyone in the Bay Area. Your ritual is that 4 mile walk..I feel bad that you can’t do that for yourself.
One of the women on my Italian zoom class is in Denver and she said the air is smokey there as well and prevented her from doing her hikes.
Oh, what flavor of jam?
It’s good to know you’re not moving far, I don’t think anyone I know enjoys the process of packing, weeding, moving boxes. I hope our next move is from SF to Sarasota.
In our 650 square foot one-bedroom apartment in SF, the battle to keep clutter at bay is a constant work in progress.
Apricot!
Oh, I did not think of Shalimar, but it definitely fits. In terms of both notes (more smoulder than zest according to my nose) and character.
Good luck with the move! I hope it goes as well as possible! 🙂
I hope you’ll still have a nice view!
More good wishes for an easy move!
Good luck with the move!
Good luck and enjoy your new place!
Best of luck with the move! ???
Hi all!
In La Myrrhe today, which I think counts for this week’s poll. A strange but delightful perfume and rightly a classic.
Stay safe everyone!
That’s a good idea! It is delightful. 🙂
1) Wakanda Forever.
2) Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. Something that General Okoye would wear.
Wakanda Forever
Wakanda Forever. (And heartbreaking.)
I was just crushed for him, his family, the years lost to us.
Same. Can’t help but think about all he would have done.
Me too. It’s also so sad — and humbling — to think of all he did while he had this illness.
Aw, Wakanda Forever.
Wakanda Forever.
Wakanda FOREVER.
I’m CP adjacent in Tea for Two, which is spicy, smoky tea. I tried to think on my toes this morning for the CP and this was as close as I could quickly get. A couple weeks ago I got out my Tea for Two bottle to show my boyfriend the differences in OLD old L’Artisan bottles and newer old L’Artisan bottles (not the newest version). I was able to snag an old old bottle of Safran Troublant on eBay, so I made my boyfriend look at it next to Tea for Two. He is nice to humor me on things like that.
Oh, you were thinking on your toes! I have not even begun to think about it.
Fils de Dieu today, as it was cool and grey outside. Got a bit wet on my home commute, because it started raining, but this time I did not forget to pack my poncho!
Now on to decanting 60ml of Chypre Mousse in my bathroom, it will smell of this for days after, I think
Rainy here too tannina!
True, but at least you can unscrew the top!
Woke up late (O_o) to a very smoky morning, my SOTD is Ambre by Reminiscence. The far dry down is so delicious – resinous and sweet. I was looking for a bottle of the Ren Pour Homme for the hubby but it seems difficult to find online. Not a good sign.
So much smoke in the air today, the air purifier is on full-blast. Humidity is 100%, I’m hopeful it helps firefighters with the blaze. They’ve got to be exhausted.
Seriously they must be 🙁
I’m in Rainbow Bar, and trying to pretend it is a lovely summer day. Competing forces include smoky grey skies, the men next door tearing off the roof for a reroofing while shouting and dropping huge piles of roof debris, and a temp hovering around 58 degrees.
Eventful weekend, including my older son heading off to college across the country. He arrived safe and sound and is now quarantining for two weeks alone in fully kitted dorm room (fridge, oven, etc. ) He has a lovely view, and the excitement of something new—so at the moment he is doing just fine. My younger son watched Speed Cubers with us on Friday night, and has suddenly himself acquired the ability to solve the 3 x 3 cubes in less than two minutes. He had only solved the 3 x 3 before very slowly, following written instructions. The power of documentaries 😉
Oh, you must be feeling so very many things right now with your eldest leaving the nest! Sending smoky hugs down from Sonoma, and I hope the neighbor’s re-roofing project wraps up quickly!
Blergh! Smoky hugs back at you. It feels churlish to complain about the smoke when others are dealing with evacuation or even losing their homes. So, I am trying to be okay with it. Yesterday I went for a walk despite the air quality. I kept coughing and coughing (not the greatest crowd pleasing activity at the moment) into my mask.
Glad that the first year dorm quarantining feels okay to your son — and you!
Well, he’s a sophomore, but he transferred so all is new.
congrats to your son! Hope he enjoyed this experience and the freedom
Me too. He isn’t allowed to collect his packages in the mail room until he’s quarantined for two weeks–but he needs the towels, etc. that are in boxes waiting for him. . . so the freedom is tempered by air drying and other inconveniences.
I hope your older son enjoys college! That’s funny that the other son picked up how to solve cubes at speed once he saw others doing it. 🙂 I’ll have to write an e-mail note to ask him about it. 🙂
I know! I told him I’ll be making him watch medical school documentaries from here on out 😉 But seriously, he has longed to solve the 3 x 3 with ease, and now he can. Just like that! He also read “The Dark Is Rising”–this time he liked it. Thanks for inspiring me to press him to do it.
That’s a really interesting observation (thinks to herself: Is there any way I can make younger daughter watch this documentary? I’d have to bribe her, probably).
Hope the quarantining goes well and that he’ll have a great start to college! I feel so sad for my students, who don’t have that option – hopefully next semester!
You may not have to bribe her. It is a very sweet and not too long documentary about cubing and cubing competition (the top ranked cubers solve the cubes in less than 8 seconds, routinely!) but also about a friendship–one of the young men is on the autism spectrum. There are competitors who solve the cubes with their feet or with just one hand!
So glad he got there safely and is all set! Wishing him well this semester.
My sympathies about the nearby roofers. I experienced that earlier this year, and was SO relieved when they moved on.
I am wearing Xerjoff Starlight and taking a do-nothing day.
Do a little extra nothing for me!?
Ha, I am getting in line.
Me too!
Nice! ??
I’m wearing Esprit d’ Oscar, which has become a go-to for me. The air is getting crisp and the leaves are turning already but I love fall so I don’t mind. I just wish it lasted longer here.
For my birthday in November I am thinking of getting myself a perfumer’s kit to experiment with making fragrances. Does anyone have any recommendations? What do you consider the building blocks of fragrance in terms of notes?
Can’t help you there but sounds like lots of fun!
Ditto!
I bet others will be recommending certain essential oils. 🙂 Lavender, for one, I’d say, if you like notes of lavender. And you can get instructions for making your own vanilla-scented oil. 😀 I think it’s chocolatemarzipan who’s the expert on that. 🙂
There are people here who are good on the science. I know Jalapeno knows chemistry. I don’t know how much she applies that knowledge to perfume?
Citrus notes are the classic for colognes. Patchouli is a fragrance a lot of people like, and that’s also in the “renewable resource” category for sources for perfume fragrances. I’m not too clear on what’s what of the gums and resins from trees and shrubs — I think I’ve seen a mix of ancient names and modern names, and haven’t connected them.
Others will know much more. I think the important thing is that it could be a fun hobby for you. 🙂
You’ll have heard about the European Union restrictions on various animal products in perfume, and some plant products that are allergens or call forth other reactions in some people.
I was going to try to go into explaining what I know of fixatives, but many of those have been severely restricted and/or were expensive to start with. But usually the ingredients I see on a perfume bottle include “fragrance” and “denatured alcohol.”
I’ve been able to reverse-engineer a cocktail once, but never perfume. CM8, Koyel and a couple of other regular posters are the resident experts about essential oils and building a fragrance that way.
Ah, okay. Reverse engineering a cocktail sounds like it could be useful. 😀
I was trying to think who the resident experts were. 🙂 Koyel made me some fun flavoring salts with suggestions about what they’d go with, and a lovely coffee-vanilla bath scrub.
Perhaps contact Mandy Aftel. It looks like she just finished an online series. Maybe you can gift yourself a full series which would include little jars of the building blocks.
Lemming alert – I finally got Esprit d’Oscar today ’cause of NST. The vintage original Oscar de la Renta is one of my top five. Thanks!! Re: making your own scents, I don’t know!
I wore Iris Poudre today because I love it and wanted something lovely for the first day back with students. Five Zoom meetings later, I’m tired, but at least I smell good!
You smell gorgeous!
On lunch and just now noticed that I have a hole in my shirt. Looking pretty classy!
Sotd is Alien eau Sublime. Figured I would wear it for what I consider the last day of summer. I scored 3 MAC lipsticks for my daughter for Christmas plus a free Becca lipstick and free mascara all for under thirty dollars! Now to find a hiding spot.
where did you find these lipsticks!
At ulta. It’s a one day special, but you might have to be a platinum member for that particular deal. It’s one pink, one red, and one brownish one. There’s everyone deal’s for the next 3 weeks though. Different every day.
This happened to me too with a favorite blue cardigan. I couldn’t bear to part with it though and need to find a way to fix it. I cannot be trusted with a sewing needle – I can do functional but pretty is not a word you would describe the end results.
I took a favorite pair of pants and a dress with a hole and a tear to my dry cleaner, who also does repairs, and told them to be creative as they wanted and they did a really wonderful job stitching things together in a way that is low key but looks intentional. Maybe an idea?
I can sew a button, and darn(?) a sock, but rarely do either one. I’m very domestically challenged.
I’m sewing up holes in T-shirts all the time, it seems. I’m able to do a decent job of it.
Nice haul on the presents!
Let’s hope she doesn’t find them early!
I don’t have any good suggestions for hiding places, unless maybe behind a stack of towels in the linen cabinet? You know, someplace boring. ?
SOTD = Hermès Vetiver Tonka
Definitely a coincidence that I could categorize Vetiver Tonka as a “suggestion” of Zest and Smoulder without being zesty and smouldery ?; it’s part of the Hermessence line after all.

I had a ton of packages today, including the awaited Chanel Le Lion. It’s in mail quarantine right now and I will gleefully open it tomorrow. As foxbins mentioned, the mail carrier just signed his little doohickey contraption in my presence, so that was that. I had been on pins and needles all morning because I was not very confident that he will deliver it timely but he passed today! I will email everyone on my split list on Tuesday night so if you don’t receive an email from me, it means I don’t have you marked down as being interested. As of now, the split is closed. I will post a comment this weekend if there’s any left to split from the big bottle.
yay! super excited for you 🙂
Thank you, can’t wait. Sitting on my hands right now!
That was quick, no, for Lion? I’m excited!
Yes it was! Her trip to Dubai was actually quite short.
That was a super quick arrival for The Lion. I hope it lives up to its hype.
Very interested in your analysis of Le Lion!
I’ve got zest down with Jour d’Hermes Absolu – honeyed sunshine in a bottle. Ready to face down Monday.
ooh, yes, perfectly sunny and zesty 🙂
We had a huge storm last evening/night, which stopped me from driving back to my place after the weekend at my parents’. I went back today morning and it was still raining quite heavily.
On this dreadful Monday I’m wearing a swoon-worthy Iris Shot from Olfactive Studio. The perfume premieres in a week, finally 🙂
Dear Lucasai -stay dry! That must be some rain..
Wow! I looked at the website last week and the bottles of Iris Shot and Violet Shot were sold out already. I have to check back again everyday as I really want a travel sprays of both Violet Shot and Iris Shot!
It’s the last day here of moderate temps before we hit the 90’s again, ugh. Come on, fall! I wore Crabtree & Evelyn Carnation yesterday and enjoyed it so much that I’m wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges today.
Got an email this morning that my flight to Paris in October is cancelled. France won’t let me in at present anyway, but I was hoping things would improve over the coming weeks. I had big plans for perfume shopping!
What a bummer! At least, if the flight is cancelled, you can get your $$ back. I hope you will be able to reschedule!
What a disappointment! This means your budget doubles when you go next year.
I feel like I have a couple of Vilhelm perfumes that would do zest and smolder, but they aren’t with me now. Oh well.
Wearing Misia as I try to feel like an adult.
Hope Misia worked!
For a few hours! That was enough for the day. (The Misia lasts longer, just not my feeling like an adult!)
Lol!, I’m happy to see you back, Amy ?
Morning Chess fits it to a Z!
Yes, absolutely. Also Dear Polly, which is smoky tea and something citrus, and Purple Fig. I think this might be a way to describe the line’s vibe, to be honest.
Oooh, I have a couple of Vilhelm samples. I might be able to participate in the CP after all…
The day is rainy and gray; work seems onerous; didn’t get much sleep last night… So I just sprayed on a little bit of Prada Iris Cedre; that has somehow become a comforting scent to me lately. I’m craving lavender and iris a lot these days.
Hey there. We’re gray weather twins today. Threat of rain all day but I have not seen a drop! I hope Cedre got you wider eyed to make up for lost sleep.
It’s been lightly raining where I am at since about noon.
Wish we could send the rain to our friends out West… The Cedre did help – I stayed awake by huffing my wrists. 🙂
Good morning all, September already in this part of the world! I’ll have to have a think about Zest and Smoulder, meanwhile today’s choice is Bois d’Encens from Armani Privé.
Beautiful! Nearly September where I am.
I tried an experiment layering Patchouli 24 with O! de Lancôme. I went very
Iight with the former and heavy with the latter. The result is weird. On a more positive note, I did get myself to cook something new last night, a rich soup with yellow Mexican Mayocoba beans. It also has potatoes and tomatoes and chili powder and a tin of herbs, plus lemon juice at the end. Outstanding!
That soup sounds really delicious! And healthful, too.
Glad you got your cooking mojo back!
I forced myself into it but then was glad. I put it on Instagram.
Sounds tasty!
Spicy soups year-round are a staple at chez-MossyBerry 🙂 Yours sound extra tasty!
Those bonnets are reminding me of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” (shudder)
Today’s post is getting filed under “It was fixed, and now it’s not.” Three or 4 days ago, I noticed some water stains on one of the ceilings on the main floor. It’s right under the master bathroom. Yesterday, the water stains were much worse, so I climbed onto a chair and gingerly poked around. The stains were new, and damp. Mr. Jalapeno eventually was persuaded to take a look, and ended up noticing that said drywall was wet after he had taken an afternoon shower yesterday. He poked a hole in the ceiling, and a bit of water started dripping out. We did have a bucket to catch the drips, so that was a mess averted.
I was so upset that I ended up in a miserable little heap on the couch for a few hours last night. I didn’t even have enough energy to cry. This was the bathroom that had supposedly been repaired back in July. Mr. Jalapeno is going to call the bathroom people tomorrow.
SOTD = commando. Not a good idea to wear perfume right now, I think.
Oh, gosh, yes, leaks are a stress. Good luck with getting people in to work on it!
Thanks neyronrose.
That’s so distressing! (Sometimes I wonder if home ownership is really worth it…) Hope you can get it fixed properly and quickly!
Renting sucks, too. So it’s six of one, and half a dozen of the other.
Water leaks upset me the same way, jalapeno. I hope they are able to come out quickly and repair it.
I’ve had to deal with water leaks more than once in my house, so my ability to roll with the punches is limited. It’s a case of “Oh God no, not again!”
Oh no! I hope it can be resolved relatively easily.
I have a sinking feeling that this repair might be more complicated than the previous one. I do hope that I am wrong about that.
Completely agree about the Handmaid’s Tale couture—and I totally feel your pain about the leak. In our old house (the one we lived in before this one) I noticed stains on the tiles in the bathroom. I called a plumbing company to send someone out to go under the house into the crawl space to make sure there wasn’t a leak. The plumber came and basically shamed me by insisting the stains were errrrr well male misses (poor aim, so to speak) on the floor and that he did not have to look at the crawl space to know that. Since I am a clean freak, I should have questioned him more strongly, but I was embarrassed and hardly protested. ANYWAY, about two weeks later what must have been a drip then had worked its way into a near flowing faucet of water running from a burst pipe below our bathroom into the crawl space, and I could see that water pouring down without going near it. I was horrified and furious. I hope your situation is solved as painlessly as possible!
Thanks OF. We haven’t completely verified the source of the leak, but I am fairly sure of where it is coming from. Confirming means having to take down drywall, ugh.
Sorry to hear about the bathroom issue. I hope it gets fix quickly!
Thanks perfumelover67.
I am so sorry. I know that heap on the sofa feeling all too well.
Thanks Amy. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been in that same mental space, though. It bites.
Oh no! Sorry about your water woes. Hope it gets fixed properly very soon.
We had water dripping through the ceiling from a leaky shower upstairs so I feel your pain!
Keep up the hope, Jalapeno! We had leaks redux in our living room and I was more than ready to curl up on the sofa. But some towels in the attic and a chimney person who knew his stuff found and fixed the problem.
Jalapeno, I am so sorry…there is nothing worse than water where it should not be inside the house.
Hope they come fix it quickly.
Also feeling a bit more autumnal so went with Angelique Noire today! In love with the herbal spicy vanilla.
Smelling fantastic!
My mom gifted me Dolce & Gabbana limited edition (love the box & bottle!) Light Blue “Sun”. I just opened it up today and have been VERY pleased with it. Very easy to wear, very refreshing and it does <3 remind me of fresh ? and limes 🙂
mmmmm, fresh lemons and limes, always a good way to feel refreshed! 🙂
Yes, but there is also something that reminds me of “crystal-clear coconut water” or milk. Very long lasting too.
Nice!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles! 🙂
It’s been too long since I spent time with my dear friend EdM.
Today was busy, lots of appointments and phone calls. It’s nice to be pleasantly distracted from the world by an easy to do list. I checked in here this morning, saw 24 sotd comments, went on my way, and now at the end of the day there are 202 comments here.
Makes my heart happy that this corner of the internet cares deeply about things that smell beautiful.
I was away from NST and realized I needed to come back regularly for just this reason, tiffanie! I little corner of the internet that cares about something beautiful.
I used to mostly hate my to-do list. Now I mostly love it. Keeping distracted with things I can actually accomplish is really good right now.
Hope everyone has had a good day. Stormy weather today, so I wore Eau de Merveille bleu to get groceries earlier. Now in a little Le Eau Froide, which I’ve currently using as a stand in for Badger headache balm, very soothing for migraines. I guess it’s the mint and ginger notes.
So sorry you have a migraine!
SOTD Ostara. It really stayed with me especially the beeswax note, all the (hectic) work day 🙂
ANNNND: ick, those Burberry “rain hats.”
I am assuming those were just for the photo shoot? Hard to imagine anyone would buy one.
