Happy Almost-Friday and happy Pots de Creme Day. Birthdays today: Man Ray, Lester Young,* Ira Levin, William Least Heat-Moon. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Kelly Caleche, from my standard community project...wear something Jean Claude Ellena made for Hermès.
Reminder: 8/28 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 4...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Just checking in, since I have not posted in a while. I hope everyone is fine.
I do not have any CP ideas. Wearing SL Vierge de Fer. While Baiser Vole and SL Un Lys remain my favorite lilies, this one is nice too. Soft, musky, sheer.
welcome back! we have missed you
Aww! Thank you!
Its being Dealer’s Choice week, we can reverse engineer a them for you. How about: Soft Lily?
Nice.
Or “perfumes that are named after something painful or scary but smell pleasant”.
Good one!
“Because I felt like it” always works for a CP! ?
This is the most popular CP! 🙂
I don’t really get on with Jean Claude Ellenas perfumes, as they seem very weak on my skin.
My friend gave me a lovely handmade Fig & goats milk soap as a gift for pet sitting while she visited Bath, and a wonderful wood block print card of The Royal Crescent now on my mantel piece, I’m tempted to read some Jane Austin this afternoon, rather than make a dent in the to do list..
SOTD: Philosykos, to compliment the soap.
Just listened to ‘Fine and Mellow’.. beautiful and relaxing, thanks Robin!
I love watching BH listen to musicians 🙂
I think of JCE’s style as very transparent–like whisps of fragrance rather than a heavy fog. Or, going with a music metaphor, he’s the fragrance-opposite of Spector’s “wall of sound.” (Which would be something maximalist, like 80’s Youth Dew.) So, maybe his scents are just a few voices harmonizing a cappella?
What a lovely analogy, I’m sure I will try some again, it’s a few years since I’ve tried any, my perceptions may be different these days.
I should say, it’s not an aesthetic that wows me, either. I recognize that they are beautifully done, but I only own one JCE scent, L’eau d’Hiver, and I always wish it was a bit louder whenever I wear it.
You smell great in your fig today. And I vote you read Jane Austen instead of your to-do list. 🙂
Thanks KellyC, I did spend some time reading!
SotD in my I-didn’t-expect-to-like-this CP: Akro Dark.
This chocolate-focused scent won my heart despite having not one but two notes I wasn’t sure of initially: hazelnut, and patchouli (the latter isn’t listed in the notes but is definitely there).
I am sensitive to nut/seed oils going off and the worst culprits for me are hazelnut and sunflower seeds. I avoid Toblerone, Ferrero Rocher etc. typically, as unless they’re very fresh they taste horribly stale to me. So I wasn’t sure how I’d react to hazelnut as a perfume note, but it’s lovely. So there’s that.
Patchouli I’m just not always the biggest fan of, and truthfully sometimes this perfume is too much for me because of it. I have to be in the mood to wear Dark, it’s not an everyday pick. But when I am in the mood, I can appreciate the patchouli supporting and extending the chocolate note. It’s a very linear and full perfume, not quite sweet enough to be gourmand, and I appreciate it a lot when I’m in the mood!
My sweet kitty Kate is at the vet’s office for her dental surgery today (two teeth need to go due to resorption), so I am a ball of anxious nerves despite knowing they’ll take the very best care of her. I just want her back home safe and sound!!!
Good luck to kitty Kate! Hope everything goes fine and she recovers soon!
Give Kate a scratch under the chin from me!
Hoping you get kitty home soon to shower her with love.
I love Akro Dark. Have you tried any other Akro’s? I might have asked you this before, if I have, sorry. It’s an interesting line. I also really enjoyed Awake, a great coffee scent.
I haven’t but very much want to try the rest of the line! Starting with Awake (coffee fiend here).
Malt is very unique and distinctive, Night is a dirty rose with a lot of cumin (I loved it), Smoke is a leathery, smoky fragrance, and Haze is a crisp and minty fragrance.
I like Akro Dark too and I definitely get patchouli as well. Good luck w/ your kitty’s surgery and a quick recovery for her.
I’ve had several kitties go through dental surgery so I know how you feel! I’m sure she’ll be better off in the long run.
Interesting scent. Is it in any way similar to Angel Muse (if you tried it)?
And best of luck to your kitty. I think she will feel better once she recovers after the suregry.
I only tried Angel Muse once, but from what I remember it is a lot sweeter than Dark, I think Dark is probably closest to Lutens Borneo.
Thank you, this helps. I tried Borneo a long time ago, and as far I remember it is not sweet at all, while AM is definitely as sweet as you can expect from an Angel offspring.
I would say more dissimilar than alike. Any sweetness in Dark comes from a bit of booziness and quite possibly some benzoin (the listed notes are very much incomplete), but to me it’s quite a dry and spicy gourmand overall.
If you’ve ever tried Lush’s I’m Home, I’d say it’s like a more woody and darker chocolate version of that.
Thanks!
Oh, I am hoping the sweet kitty has a smooth vet visit! Please give her a gentle *squish* for me. I know they’ll take good care of her.
I’m the same with nuts. Hazelnut in particular can be off-putting.
You do smell lovely though.
Best wishes for your sweet kitty’s dental work today! I had it done with one of my cats, so I know what that waiting is like.
today’s neglected bottle is Parfums de Nicolai Odalisque. It is a vintage bottle with oakmoss. Fantastic.
A gem in the Nicolaï collection. I don’t know if my bottle is pre or post reformulation. I can’t even remember when I got it.
Oooooh.
I gave a bottle of that to my late mom…bought it at the boutique in Paris. At the time, it was too difficult for me, but it was gorgeous.
“Vintage bottle with oakmoss:” my lemming just swooned away. You smell wonderful!
I love Odalisque! Such a unique beauty. You smell great.
“Vintage + oakmoss” sounds amazing.
Laura turned out to be a total non-event in my town. I’m wearing Passage d’Enfer for the first time, from a new decant. I like it, but I don’t know if it’s love.
I’m so glad to hear that!
Yay for non-events!
That’s the good kind of non-event!
So glad to hear!
You were lucky
Yay non-events!!! I think this year that’s considered a win every time ?
I am so glad the hurricane was a non-event. I thought the same thing the first time I tried Passage D’Enfer, I now own a full bottle and it is my go to summer fragrance. It is not strong but quite persistent and I find it cooling and calming.
Thumbs up for a hurricane miss! ??
Hey guys:)
Just an update on the Iris Torrefie split. So far, we have the following ppl signed up for 5 mls:
Lovestosmellgood
Nancyleandros
Janice
Catanosmia
She-ra
MossyBerry
And signed up for 10 mls is:
meredifay
That leaves 15-20 mls left to split off before I would go ahead and place the order. So, if you haven’t done a dibs and want to, let me know. Again, 5 mls is $22 and 10 mls is $44. Payment would be F&F PayPal. Do a dibs here with how much you want then email me at kalliela11 at the hot male.
That being said, I spoke with Theodore again yesterday from the Guerlain boutique. He said he will contact me as soon as the new bottles come in..which may not be until mid September:(. But will let me know if they are in sooner. We could go ahead and do a presale or wait until the bottles comes in…I am thinking the later, to wait. Again, they had the perfume in stock, approximately 18 bottles, but sold through..cause he said this was an anticipated release.
So there ya have it lol. Thanks for your emails and requests to join:).
Sotd..I am thinkin Youth Dew powder:).
Thanks for rallying this split! Here’s hoping they get more soon! Youth Dew powder sounds wonderful. *note to self to seek scented powder*
I bought my bottle of Youth Dew at Goodwill as a part of a gift set. No powder, but it had body lotion, a FB, a mini and maybe something else I’m forgetting? Anyway, all that’s to say, I think it’s a findable one at discounters, etc.
Thanks, MR – I will check FragNet – I will be making a little basket there before the year is out! 🙂
I’m in for 5ml! I’ll email you.
got it kelly, thanks!
EDIT: Iris Torriefie is available..alls we need is someone to dibs 10 more mls!
SOTD is SmellBent Smoked Ambergris. It could go Boudoir to Boardroom, but I prefer it when I’m horizontal, in bed, heading to the land of nod. ?
Still disgustingly hot here, and will be until I leave. When I lived here 20 years ago, I didn’t have A/C and didn’t miss it. Every night, it cooled down significantly. We had some pretty warm days, but nothing like this unending 85+ heat and 100% humidity. It’s like Florida, without the palm trees. Ugh!
I need to get motivated to pack up this van! Happy for all the people who didn’t have any fallout from Laura, but sad for those who did. Looks like there is extensive damage…
After leaving the southeast and moving out west, the humidity hits me much harder when I go back and visit. It’s so thick and intense. Get that van packed! 🙂
Humidity makes it so hard to get motivated! It’s literally difficult to move. Good luck with the packing!
Yes! This!
Hi all – I’ve been absent for a few days due to eye issues … but good ones. Had cataract replacement surgery on one eye on Tuesday, and I Cannot Believe how bad my vision had become. I also can’t believe how fast a surgery that is, and how quickly one can open one’s eye and see clearly (it was about 5 hours for me). Wow. Other eye happening next Tuesday.
Anyway, my personal CP has been Things That Are Calming, for obvious reasons. 🙂 Monday was Italian Leather, Tuesday was Kyoto, yesterday was Eau de Hadrien, and today is the lovely Dryad. Question for French-speaking NSTers – why is it not Eau d’Hadrien? Just curious.
I’m glad your surgery went so well! It’s amazing how quick the recovery is.
Three cheers for cataract surgery! A very low risk surgery with immediate HUGE benefits! Did you need a lens implant?!
I did indeed. They, er, liquified the existing lens with ultrasound and vacuumed it out, and put in a nice new clear one. Sounds horrendous, doesn’t it? 😉
That was really hard to read and will do my best to forget it. I’m sure I’ll need one some day.
Sorry about that! Does it help any to know that the process was introduced to the world tha same year that austenfan was? See her post below – if I had known the technical name for the process it might have spared you some, er, unpleasant brain activity. ?
Ha, mostly it helps that I am forgetful …phacoemulsification sounds awful anyway. It’s ok, I really will probably need it some day and will be grateful to have it when I do.
And so glad you had a successful procedure and your vision is improved! That is what matters.
Glad it went well. There’s a part of me that wishes I could get elective cataract surgery. I didn’t wear glasses uNtil I was 50, and I’m already over it.
I’ve only needed glasses the last couple years, and I have already investigated vision correction. Probably doesn’t make sense, in my case, but I still don’t think of myself as “a person who wears glasses.” I’ve forgotten to put them on several times over the last few years, until the ensuing headache reminds me. ?
Glasses are annoying, to be sure. I was able to get by with contact lenses for many years, but once I started approaching the age of “ancient” my eyes wouldn’t tolerate them well anymore. I am only now getting to the point where I look “normal” to myself while wearing glasses … so, Marjorie Rose, it may take a few more years for you. 🙂
Glad your surgery went well and good luck on the next eye.
Congrats on successful surgery. Good luck with the other eye!
It actually is Eau d’Hadrien on the French website. Which makes sense as it is also Les mémoires d’Hadrien and that book was written by the first woman writer to become a member of the Académie Française.
Thank you austenfan! Now I need to go look more closely at the label – maybe my poor eyesight is/was to blame!
Hah! It WAS my poor vision – the label clearly says “d’Hadrien”!
Good, my eyes are not what they used to be either and even with my new glasses I struggle reading small print.
I was kind of sure, but I checked to be really certain.
Whatever its spelling it’s a great scent.
Completely forgot to congratulate you on your successful surgery.
What they did to your eye is called phacoemulsification. It sounds awful but it is actually really neat, and on top of that it was introduced the year I was born.
You’ve been smelling great this week. My sympathies for your eye surgery! Glad the recovery was quick!
good to hear the surgery was quick and immediately successful!
Three cheers for a successful surgery! Good luck with the other eye! ???
Wonderful news on your uneventful eye surgery. When my grandfather had his cataract surgery a very long time ago, I remember visiting him in the hospital. He was there for a few days and I don’t think it was due to complications!
I’m wearing the lovely Un Cœur en Mai. I’m beginning to fall asleep in the afternoon. A sure sign of someone who has done a lot. On the plus side I’ve finished most of the organising, so I can relax just a little bit. And I can put things in boxes with my eyes closed.
You smell fabulous! Un Coeur en Mai isn’t edgy but how many perfumes are hyacinth dominant? I will have to dig out my bottle and wear it
It is such a graceful perfume. I do get more hyacinth from Grand Amour though. But this one is a lot greener.
Patricia de Nicolaï does not really do edgy perfumes, what she does do is create perfumes that I actually wear, a lot.
A perfume doesn’t need to be edgy to be awesome.
Yes! Her bottles have a way of creeping into my collection after I get a sample and find myself wearing it repeatedly. (It helps that her own small bottles are relatively affordable, for sure.) I should try Un Coeur in Mai…I like my Tauerville Hyacinth and a Mechanic…but then I see she did this one for MDCI and that takes it well out of reach. 🙂
Why don’t you get the MDCI sample set. It’s not that expensive and the samples are a very good size (10 ml). The full bottles are expensive but I enjoy them a whole lot. The ones I would still like to get at some point are Rivage des Syrtes and Invasion Barbare.
Oooh — good idea. 😀 Hmm…will be looking for this now, during my boring training this morning.
Sample sets with real bottle sizes are always a temptation for me. Thanks for the lemming, let’s see if I can avoid jumping off the cliff! . . .
If you need any recommendations feel free. I haven’t tried all of them. Fêtes Persanes is probably the most recent one.
MDCI used to and maybe still does offer a 3 sample set of the 10mLs for “free” when you buy a full bottle (does not have to be the one with the busts).
Following Robin’s CP lead, I’m wearing the lovely Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. It’s just perfect for a humid day.
Wishing safety for all who were in the path of Laura.
Welcome to the club 🙂
Hello farouche! Nice to see you!
Wearing Tauer L’Eau and having a very unhealthy breakfast: a cup of strawberry cheesecake gelato and a toast with peanut butter and jelly ?. Late lunch and dinner only a salad and plenty of fluids for the rest of the day.
It will be another busy day. Looking forward to the weekend!
That breakfast sounds similar to mine last week- a piece of actual strawberry cheesecake. I evened out the caloric content with a diet A&W…?
Since I am working from home my healthy eating habits have been going downhill. The good part of it is that I don’t gain weight easily, but still affects the rest of my health. But some days I wake up and say WTH! ?
Diet A&W is very good. One of the better diet formulations out there.
I start the day well, but I’ve had more sugar cravings of late, Unfortunately. Hits the waistline first.
I don’t really like pop, but I remember liking diet Dr. Pepper back in the day.
Strawberry cheesecake and diet root beer! A breakfast of champions of some sort or other…
I’d LOVE to join you for that breakfast!
Passing you some! ?
I had gelato yesterday for “breakfast dessert” after I got to work. It was a direct results of the gelato talk at NST a day or so ago 8)
Almost breakfast twins! ? Too much talking about gelato, ice cream, etc here lately! But I enjoy it!
That sounds SO good.
It was! ?
Hey, the PB&J toast was healthy, so your breakfast wasn’t that bad! ?
Thanks! I needed some supporting words! ?
Going to be a hot and humid today with a chance of thunderstorms. Wearing of LADDM to stay cool or coolish.
That is cooling! And just lovely.
Smelling amazing of course.
I’d love to have a bottle of that! Gotta keep saving my nickles and dimes for it…
I’m wearing She Was an Anomaly today. Just a soft, perfect iris and musk fragrance. I could see myself going through multiple bottles of this as a no-brainer pick.
Oh, that sounds really nice!
That does sound nice, and I have never heard of it before….thanks for the mention ..(trotting off to see what it is all about…)
I bought the smallest bottle available, and have made a dent in it fairly quickly. It’s nice as a bedtime scent. You smell calm and peaceful! ?♀️
I took off today and tomorrow from work and am so happy to have two days off!!! ? To mark the occasion, I am going to break out some Insolence Extrait I bought off Ebay a while back and haven’t tried yet. I have the EDT but not the EDP and have never tried the Extrait…will weigh in with thoughts later.
Wow, Insolence Extrait sounds exciting!
Oooh…looking forward to your report. I have the EdT. One of the few scents where I preferred the opening sharpness.
I like that, too; that sharpness has the best of Guerlain style, IMHO.
Insolence fan girl high-five! You will smell wonderful! I like the edp best, and I have My Insolence which is just a little too barbershop on me. The Eau Glacee is nice too; I might like it better than the edt.
Just unearthed the Extrait from the Closet of Shame. As I move things around in the Closet, I think “boy, I really have too much perfume…” then by the time I am back downstairs I think “how am I going to get more perfume…?” True story. I am kind of like a goldfish when it comes to perfume I guess.
I bought the Extrait sealed on Ebay for around $50. There’s a WDW/Epcot price sticker on it showing $115 for .25 oz/7.5 ml and it appears to have been sold via the Guerlain store in France at Epcot. The batch code is 6F02 which puts it at produced in 2006. I used a pipette and put a couple ml in a glass atomizer. The juice is a beautiful light amber w/ no cloudiness.
It smells gorgeous. Not as sharp as the EDT. More rounded and floral. Lots of oomph and sillage. Makes me wonder if I should seek out a bottle of older EDP.
that sounds neat, and I guess it was good ebay steal, too!
I am geeking out on your detective work. I always scrutinize price stickers, too! Glad your purchase was a winner. I think I posted on here before that Insolence edp was my main scent during the few weeks of my furlough. Clouds of candied violets – so cheerful.
Nice eBay find!
Off my H dealers choice today
In Shalimar OdV smokey sexy Madagascar flanker..with the body cream. Ooooo la la…
Today, I am representing Canada’s Hudson Bay for no apparent reason, in the striped t shirt and reusable tote to match.
PS Robin..love Billy Holiday! Thank you!
🙂
You just couldn’t go a whole week without a Shalimar could you? 😉
?
After yesterday’s scrubber (I did actually scrub it off and replaced with Atelier Pacific Lime), I’m in Eau d’Hadrien from a sample I got at Sniffapalooza. Much better and summer appropriate.
So sorry for those impacted by Laura. A big challenge to house the homeless, given COVID.
Made a Fall purchase yesterday… Didn’t need it, but I was quite taken by a faux suede short, collarless jacket at Uniqlo. It was partly the color…a nice, almost grayish taupe.
I have several Uniqlo items I got when I was in Korea a couple of years ago. Your jacket sounds great!
Thunked a sample of Miller Harris Le Petit Grain, which is a lovely sparkling chypre. It reminds me of Azemour and Frangipane by The Garden Party. If I didn’t have a decant of the former and a bottle of the latter, I’d consider seeking out more.
Thanks for yesterday’s well wishes on my stairs progress!
I hope MH doesn’t go under…
Gosh, I hope not too. I haven’t kept up with them for a while but still love most of the oldies.
I read that article, too! So sorry for them, and Lord & Taylor and…..
Insipired by lillyjo’s week of tuberose perfumes (I’m not really doing the CP), today I’m in Tauer Tuberose Sotto la Luna.
Thanks, all, for the well wishes for my anniversary yesterday. We had a nice dinner out, though one with way more discussion of the “Keeper of the Lost Cities” book series for kids than I’d ever have predicted. 🙂
Today I’m in #4 of 9 full mornings of mindnumbing training that’s so high level that it’s not really useful for our project. Sigh.
But I’m getting my hair cut this afternoon and very excited about that. I haven’t wanted to go in during COVID, but I look dreadful with long hair and hate it. I just can’t pull it back any longer! On top of that, I was planning to find a new salon, pre-COVID, which became harder post-COVID. I’ve found a new stylist, so we’ll see how that goes.
Thinking of everyone who’s evacuated, for weather or fires, and hoping you’re all okay!
Wishing you strength and perseverance in your mind-numbing trainings! ??
Since I’m a fan of children’s literature, I’d probably have enjoyed that discussion. Hopefully smelling good will minimize the training pain…
I can discuss Harry Potter with her for hours, but she’s moved on (sadly). Trying to push her towards His Dark Materials or Lord of the Rings, both of which I can happily discuss, but sadly, she’s now at the age where she doesn’t want to take suggestions from Mom. 😀 I haven’t felt driven to dive into “Keeper of the Lost Cities” from what she’s told me so far, so it was a very one-sided conversation!
I tried convincing my kids to read Lord of the Rings….no dice. In fact, I spent my childhood trying to convince my best friend to read it – didn’t work either!
I never read it as a kid, and my spouse tried to get me to read it for years after we got together, and finally gave up. Then about a year ago, I just decided to read it on a long plane trip (remember those? 🙂 ). So who knows, maybe there’s still hope?
I was majorly obsessed with Lord of the Rings and would sometimes be annoyed when I had scheduled a play date with a friend when I really wanted to stay in Middle Earth!
I’m a huge sci-fi fantasy fan, but I still use my husband’s omnibus copy of the Lord of the Rings if my insomnia is particularly bad. I’ve never gotten past page 40 ?
Hope you and your daughter find some books you can both dig into!
That’s the Silmarillion for me now. My spouse bought it for me for Valentine’s Day after I read LotR 😀 and I just cannot stick with it. I even trained as a medievalist, years ago, but I…just…can’t. Everyone has five names! Definite insomnia reading.
Have you tried the Harley Merlin series?
No — I’ll take a look. Thanks!
Oh my, yes, some of my favorite books: LOTR, His Dark Materials, Harry Potter! The last two series I read as an adult, but I was addicted to LOTR starting in middle school after reading The Hobbit in 6th grade. Depending on the age of your child, here are some other options: A Wrinkle in Time (it’s Book 1 of 5 and the most famous), by Madeline L’Engle; The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K. LeGuin; The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry; The Merlin Trilogy, by Mary Stewart.
Yay for a haircut. Hope the new stylist works out for you!
I hope that your haircut went well today! How was the new stylist?
Wear the last perfume that arrived in the mail…
And here I am wearing Van Cleef & Arpels Oud Blanc. I bought 10 ml in a split and I’m enjoying it a lot.
Oh, I like that project!
Thank you Robin 🙂
Ha! I wouldn’t remember the last perfume in the mail because I usually open packages twice a week due to quarantining mail for at least a day.
SOTD is Dans ma bulle. No theme; just enjoying a recent purchase. I like the almond note, and I think I am finding that I like whatever is used for litchi in perfume. Still thinking about a theme for tomorrow’s CP – so I will be looking over everyone’s ideas again.
Hmmm. Did I hear almond? Off to check this out.
No SOTD, yet; still waking up with coffee and trying to plan my day. Thank you everyone for the kind words and virtual snuggles yesterday! It was really touching and means a lot to me!
On my drive down to the coast, I stopped at a small farm stand. I bought 10 lbs of fresh peaches and several pounds of very ripe, local prune plums. I might live off of fruit today. 😀
I have work to do, but I’m trying to reorganize my day so I don’t have to drive to school. I stayed up late talking to Mom, and I don’t want to have to fake energy for potential coworkers. Maybe I can finagle my responsibilities right so I can do that work tomorrow when I’m better rested. ??There’s certainly plenty I can do from home.
Mmm…orchard fruit! Hope you can reorganize to stay home and rest.
Well, I reorganized my day, and now just got an email saying the building is closed tomorrow. ??♀️ Guess I’ll need to find some time next week to get my classroom put together.
A really ripe plum is a revelation. So yummy!
Agreed!
Curious to know why you have to fake energy? While we haven’t met, I had put you in my almost perpetually peppy and informative bucket!
Ha! I got you fooled! 😀
I am wearing Imaginary Authors Every Storm A Seranade today.Wishing everyone experiencing a storm of any kind safety and health.Be well.
Perfect topical scent!
Sticking with tropical in Bobbi Brown Beach. I know it doesn’t get a ton of love, but I adore it haha. Makes me feel like I’m at the beach even though I’m at work. Straight up Coppertone lol.
Thinking of all affected by Laura, coronavirus, unrest in the country…so much going on right now. Hugs to all.
You smell wonderful! I love Beach, one of my favorite summer scents!
Oh, but it does get tons of love! I would guess Bronze Goddess edges it out here, but the reverse is probably true worldwide.
I loved the smell of Coppertone back in the day. Nowadays, though, I want my sunscreen to be unscented, or at least not compete with my perfume.
Today, a generous wearing of Amber Oud from my new bottle. This stuff wears like iron on my skin – multiple vigorous hand washings and doses of hand sanitizer later, and it still smells loverly…. too hot outside here in Michigan – we had the red sky in morning, sailors taking warning sunrise, which I am sure is the moist air pumped north out of the Gulf, stay safe, everyone in harms way…wear your masks, wash your hands, wear your masks, wash your hands, etc. etc. etc. Veering general political complaint – I gave a small amount of money to a local political campaign, and now I am inundated with emails offering swag and access, if I will just give a little more to this one or that one, or, dispensing with niceties, begging and pleading for more money. It’s very important, but I am soooo tired of it.
What about making a Political email folder and having mails from them sent directly to it? You can read/delete at will later on. I do that for overly-enthusiastic senders. Wishing everyone well,
That’s such a good idea, I don’t use that function nearly enough. Thank you for the reminder!
My husband is a perennial donater to various causes. 95% of his phone calls are people asking for more money. He never answers his phone anymore if he doesn’t recognize the number.
That’s us now, but because 98% of our phone calls are from “Canada Revenue Agency” claiming a social insurance number has been compromised or there’s an outstanding tax case and we must call their 800 number back now so they can scam us. The other day I got a call from “British Columbia” (the whole province!), so I didn’t answer because that’s a usual scammer tactic, and it turned out it was the internet installer on his way to our house for his appointment. Oops.
Annoyingly, some “British Columbia” calls are just from friends on their cel phone
Souvenir perfume: Ivoire, which I bought at the Brighton TK Maxx a couple of years ago.
I could join in on that CP easily enough! I love buying a scent while traveling so I can associate it with my trip when I return!
That’s a great CP! I have a few of those — Santa Maria Novella from our Florence trip and two bottles of Eau d’Italie scents I found on 50% off sale at Ludwig Beck in Munich during Oktoberfest 2008. Also La Curie Larrea from our trip to Tuscon last spring. Hmm…
Ooh, what did you buy at SMN? I came home with Ambra, which I adore, and my husband picked out a weird scent I can never remember the name of. . . it smells like automotive parts cleaner, which he says is very nostalgic to him. Go figure!
Nostalgia is the name.
I think you’re right! That’s apropos, I guess!
I just got their standard cologne — the original scent. I think they’ve expanded their line a lot since I was there over a decade ago. That’s one of my summer scents, though — good for a warm day.
Yes!+1!
Love that theme! I indulge in “perfume tourism”, meaning that nowadays I seek out perfumeries and other such places when I travel. I feel so lucky that my husband and I went to Florence and Venice for the first time last summer, since we had to cancel all travel plans for this summer. Paris, waaaaah! But I got to visit SMN last summer and it was wonderful. I brought home Iris and Mughetto.
Not wearing perfume yet, but i am slathered in a baby lotion I found at Target a few weeks ago. It’s French, called Mustela, and it smells like powdery citus & honeysuckle soap. Addictive, and absorbs nicely.
Been pretty much just wearing that the last few weeks. Have had the chance to wear all sorts of my scents but just keep reaching for this. It is quite perfumed, you can smell it a couple hours later on.
Mustela does smell good! 😀
I’m nearly out of my Nivea lotion – will check this out!
I hope you like it!
This sounds wonderful! I’ll have to check it out!
I used Mustela products on my babies, that smell would probably take me back in a flash! Must go get some, I loved those years.
House twins with you Robin — Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte is my SOTD
Hey cousin! You smell great.
SsotD = Hiris + Breath of God
An odd pairing, but they work together. I was looking for soothing and strengthening at once, and the combo is doing the job.
Spritzed blue bottle Hiris on each arm, dabbed BoG solid perfume on each wrist. I’m wafty, that’s for sure.
Very glad to read everyone’s words here this morning, a little bit of normalcy goes a long way these days.
Something pretty to look at from the world of plants and flowers:

These are very cool, thanks for sharing! I like the one from Manchester the best.
that one is fantastic! I would love a print of that image in a frame on my living room wall.
It might be worth checking out if that’s possible – photographs can be pretty affordable! I once saw a super cool picture from the 70s in a Patagonia catalogue and tracked down the photographer to purchase a print. Ultimately, it didn’t work out (he lived off the grid enough that communication stalled), but it was surprisingly easy to get in touch!
This was the image:

Very cool. Makes me want to take a hike somewhere with my camera.
same! I take ridiculously large numbers of close up photos when I’m hiking, gives my legs a moment to rest. 😉
I struggle hiking uphill, as I have limited lung capacity. Stopping to take a few photos on the way up is a great way to give my breathing a break! I try to not stop TOO, too often if I’m hiking with others, though. I can really slow down a group hike if I get carried away with my photography!
oh! and thank you to Robin for the superb music up top today, such a beautiful voice, such beautiful sax solos.
somewhat related(?), here’s a piano solo and Catherine Russell singing Aged and Mellow: https://youtu.be/JsOuKERVs0E
“my old silver-haired daddy suits me to a T”
😀 gets me every time!
My blue bottle of Hiris needs to be thrown away — it is quite spoiled — and I can’t bring myself to do it.
oooooooh, I would keep it even so! 😉
And another day in Shalimar Cologne. Just so easygoing.
I have my first classes this afternoon/evening – really curious how that will go. It has been eye opening so far to be on the other side of the instructor/student divide.
Good luck!
2nd that, hope it goes well!
My CP for today could be… Smell like a lady, that you are not….
So I wore Vintage Miss Dior for work and vintage Chanel 19 for the evening
Ha! Good cp!
I would inhale deeply if I were anywhere in your vicinity! You smell doubly divine.
That’s a great CP!
Sounds wonderful!
Posting and running since I spent most of my lunch at Marshalls. They have a good selection of Urban Decay, so I got a few things for my daughter.
Sotd is Cafe Tuberosa. A lady in the warehouse said “oh my God, you always smell so wonderful” yay me!?
Awesome! Don’t ya love perfume compliments?
I do love them. I wear perfume for myself, but I always worry I’m offending people, so it’s nice to know I’m not.
And YOU DO!
Thank you!
You do smell wonderful! And now I want to stop at TJX on the way home!
Hope you find something good!
I looked up the notes, you do smell fantastic! Perfume compliments are the best?. Do you get much coffee from it?
Urban Decay does have some fun products. Their pencil eyeliners and shadows are great. And I’m pretty sure I have a couple of their lipsticks.
I only get coffee for the first half hour or so. Then to my nose, I smell chocolate and tuberose. It deserves a fancier bottle imo.
Thanks lillyjo, it sounds very nice! When I get to my Sephora, I will have to seek it out.
Yay you for getting a perfume compliment!
You know it!
Hi all, my SOTD is Borneo 1834 by SL. I had all good intentions of wearing something happy and filled with sunshine (Jour d’ Hermes) but it’s cold and gloomy in SF. So Borneo it is! Patchouli and cocoa.
I have a special patchouli/cocoa scent picked out for tomorrow. I’d forgotten that I had it.
Standing by for the reveal! 😉 I will get to know Borneo 1834 “One Fine Day” (cue Carole King)
I do love it, perfect patchouli and cocoa.
For the chosen Stressbuster cp, I’m in Cuir Beluga, which is quite fancy for what I’m up to today. As others mentioned, Laura was thankfully a nonevent in these parts, so I’m moving plants, furniture and wind chimes back to their proper places on the patio. Everything needs watering, so I’ve been busy.
Best wishes and hugs to everyone today. ?
Great theme, although one could argue that perfume by (our) definition is a Stressbuster.
Hurray for a nice quiet day!
Pots de Creme day – co-sign! I have a small chocolate bottle of what qualifies ? (I was going to digress into While Foods cashiers / baggers not doing one mini pinkie fingernail-size – really booger-size but eewwweee – worth of anything extra, look what I just did – I digressed!)
Anyway,
SOTD = Vilhelm Parfumerie Morning Chess
I thought it was discontinued as it was nowhere to be found online. When I saw the announcement if the brand relaunch, I contacted Arielle Shoshana and I received my bottle soon after launch!
It’s a sweet, sour and smokey leather ?.

I’ll be back later to read comments!
Also, I’ve closed the split for Chanel Le Lion. Thanks for those who expressed interest. You’re all in … I just have to get organized once I have the bottle in my hands!
Jumping up and down!
I didn’t read far enough yet today before seeing this and just sent you an email ?!
I got it!
The version of Morning Chess I smelled was a smokey leather scent that worked great in summer weather.
It started with the pineapple note and continued with the wonderful smokey leather.
I will have to look and see if I notice a pineapple note in the sample I have.
PS: As all of you know Lord & Taylor is going out of business. Sales already started, if you are interested. All perfumes are now 10% off. Nothing caught my fancy, except for a bottle of Shalimar Extrait de Parfum. Not sure if I should wait for the discounts to get better. No rush, just thinking!
Whaaaaaa
I know!!!!
Just restocked my Bronze Goddess stash. Thank you!
Enjoy!!!
I did NOT know about L&T, so thanks for the heads-up.
The one at the mall near me closed as of the end of last year.
Same for me. I think that the store at the Quakerbridge Mall is still around, for the time being.
Oh that’s so sad.
Wearing Guerlain Patchouli Ardent.
Oooo
How is this one
It starts off spicy and a bit green and earthy before going into leather territory whilst still retaining a pepperiness. There wasn’t that much change or development on my skin. Would like to try it in cooler weather. I wouldn’t mind having a bottle though.
Also want to know how you find this one please?

Thank you! Sounds nice.
Waving to Hermès house twins!
I am hanging out in the garden with Monsieur Li I added a touch of Lust too! It’s a good combination .
Enjoy the garden
Thanks L2SG!!
Perfume twins! (minus the Lust addition). So pretty…
Hi twin!
Did you Lust after Monsieur Li? ???
Naughty!
😉 Ha! A good one!!
I wore Un Jardin Apres La Mousson today for the CP (my theme was “Rain, Rain, Go Away”). I love the Jardin series.

Dealer’s Choice:Perfume Scrabble
Wear a perfume that would give you a high score in scrabble e.g. Jazz (J,8; A,1; Z,10 …total 28)
Sounds like too much trouble to me ( really) so just pick a perfume to match your favourite board game: chess, monopoly, cluedo, scrabble, trivial pursuits etc.
Wearing Twilly

A truly beautiful illustrated Friendship Book from C17
That is stunning!
Beautiful. I’m surprised it’s not in the Morgan Library collection!
Just Gorgeous ❣️Thanks for sharing this.
Like it!!
Love that idea! I tried Zizonia but that only earned 25 points.
Tauerville Rose Flash which was lovely during my exhausting meetings but isn’t playing so well with the humidity now that I ventured outside!
This could be part of a CP called “Do I need more of this?”
Good one!
Friday already!! Another week has passed in the blink of an eye. I’ll celebrate the imminent weekend with Parfum de Nicholai’s Sacrebleu.
Wearing a bit of Chanel Paris-Riviera today from a sample. We were visiting my hubby’s brother yesterday. He rented a pontoon boat for the afternoon so we had a wonderful day on the lake with family.
I’m still on holidays this week and am getting used to this! Got home this morning and picked up my new glasses (backup pair, so the frames are old but new lenses).
Now that Riviera has worn off I will go check out my stash for my SOTA. I feel very grateful these days. Sending out hugs to all that are affected by the crazy weather and all the other daily issues being dealt with.
I’m probably overdue for new glasses/new lenses… at least that’s my excuse for all my typos here!
I’m happy Laura passed us by, but the thought of what might have been is haunting. Maybe I need to move away—but where is safe any more? The pictures are awful. Today I’m trying to get paperwork done and revise a short piece that is giving me problems. It might be time for wine and a nap. My perfume today is L’Instant, one I used to like more than now. I thought I’d give it a go but it’s going back into the cupboard. Too much honey vanilla. Just too sweet (though it has something my cat clearly loves—she just gave my wrist a very good washing. Sorry if that grosses anyone out. I think most cat people love the feel of a cat’s rough tongue!)
Kitty tongue baths can be sweet, but painful! I’m relieved to hear that you are safe Calypso.
A sandpaper tongue fan here! Not more gross that Basset Hound kisses, which I narrowly avoided when an adorable Basset walked by me on a lunch time watch 🙂
I’m really bummed out to hear that Lord & Taylor is calling it quits. Sigh. I got the shoes I wore at my wedding there, so I have fond memories of shopping at L&T. ?
Hot and sticky day here made even more so by doing a load of laundry this afternoon. At least it was productive. The intermittent wind gusts have done nothing as far as feeling less hot and sticky. ??
SOTD = repeating again in Flowerbomb La Vie En Rose, 2009 edition. I might have to sniff Dior’s Poison Girl EdT side by side with it.
I managed a 3.5 mile walk today and rushed back for the Sniffapalooza x Maison Margiela Replica x Nordstrom Masterclass at 7. Lisa D and I think stinker_kit were there. We sniffed 6 perfumes: Beach Walk, Coffee Break, Jazz Club, Lazy Sunday Morning, Sailing, Springtime in a Park. I like Coffee Break the best bUT nothing called out to me to BUY ME NOW! I think In the Fireplace is still my choice if I were to buy a bottle.
Thursday’s SOTD was Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain EDT, which I applied at bedtime and can still smell the next morning! What a cozy, warm scent it is. I’m still pondering my Dealer’s Choice for today!
Okay, my CP theme for the day, since I’ve been grumpy for a while about the terrible weather we’ve been having (as you know if you read my blog, lol!) is “Rain, Rain, Go Away.” I’m wearing Un Jardin Apres La Mousson, and I may switch later to Apres L’Ondee! Any other rain suggestions? I’ve read that Zoologist Dragonfly has rain scent notes — comments on that, anyone?
