It's Tuesday, World Nature Conservation Day and National Milk Chocolate Day. Birthdays: Beatrix Potter, Marcel Duchamp, Malcolm Lowry, C. T. Vivian, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur. Tea at the moment is an iced Starbucks Latte.
Reminder: on 7/31, we're doing best of summer...wear the perfume you're reaching for the most this summer. (If it's winter where you are, wear the perfume you're reaching for the most this winter.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the "Travel Ceramic Tea Set, Sandalwood Handle Teacups Set, with Tea Caddy and Portable Tea Bag" is about $66 on Amazon.
Carnal Flower. Tea is Trader Joe’s spiced chai.
Our high humidity and temps broke yesterday and I was able to sleep with the windows open. I slept well and woke on my own before 6 feeling so rested. Went for a run along the lake and it was beautiful. Ran into a family of wild turkeys and they always make me a little bit nervous because I’ve seen those videos online of them trying to attack people. Eek. They are not small!
Tea twins !!
I am glad the turkeys left you alone 🙂
Isn’t it the best?! It’s my favorite chai from the several that I have tried.
Me too! Those things scare me!?
I find even domestic turkeys somewhat intimidating.
You smell awesome!
Agreed, I’d be less intimidated by wild chickens, lol.
Thanks!?
You smell wonderful! Wild turkeys are scary, but not as scary as some kinds of geese, in my experience. Or SWANS! Swans can be downright mean. Haven’t seen a video of one attacking someone, but I’ve totally been chased off by one before! So many birds are scary with their little pea brains, they’re just all autopilot, no processing and nuance!
Swans! Yes, they are the worst. They look so beautiful but they are just mean. I worked one summer during university at a restaurant in a resort town on the Baltic Sea in Germany, and there was a swan who regularly came into the small parking area behind the restaurant, which the kitchen opened onto, and menaced us as we were peeling potatoes in the doorway or trying to get things from the walk-in refrigerator. Sometimes he brought a friend. We were all scared of the swans — they’re huge when they want to be.
LOL! I can absolutely see a swan rearing up and flapping its wings at you, trying to chase you off!
Yes indeed! I was cornered by a black swan in Australia after I’d been dropping bits of my sandwich into the river. He came right up onto the bank and almost into my lap trying to grab more food! I used my knee to shove him away and my Aussie friend panicked and shouted to me not to kick the swans, they’re protected! She was afraid I might start an international incident!
Oh no! I’m glad you didn’t get in trouble for defending yourself against the aggressive swan! Entitled bugger!
Tea triplets! I cooled down from my walk, read this and realized I have this in my pantry, alone and forgotten. Cheers!
Your morning sounds perfect, even with the turkey scare
You smell wonderful.
Something about a flock of wild turkeys reminds me of the velociraptors in “Jurassic Park”. Disturbing.
I’m wearing L’Eau Rare Matale 06, from a new decant.
That’s a nice one
I do like that one 🙂
never heard of this one – tell us more!
I think I was looking for tea scents at STC, and this popped up. Since I was taking advantage of a sale, I bought a 5ml decant. I really like it. I did read Robin’s review before I bought, and it sounded delicious.
Off to read the review
I am wearing Bvlgari au The Bleu and drinking a cup of Trader Joe’s spiced chai.
Bvlgari au The Bleu is a great minty lavender scent. You smell wonderful.
Minty lavender is a great description. I also love the iris note in this fragrance.
You smell great! I recently got to try this and now have a bottle on it’s way! Great deal, too.
Its always exciting to have a bottle on the way 🙂
You smell wonderful! A very kind NSTer sent me a bottle of this recently. ❤️
Thank you 🙂 Enjoy your bottle of au The Bleu !
The blue tea is very refreshing, and I have been wearing it a lot
Its perfect for all occasions.
Uh oh. This could be the start of another lavender lemming…
Have you tried it, Jalapeno? I can send you some if you’re interested. Nlmcook aaat sbcglobal dot com
You smell great, Robin!
It is a hot day, and for once I matched my scent with my food. SOTD is Guerlain AA Herba Fresca (mint, green tea and lemon), the tea is “mojito” blend (green tea, mint and lime flavour) and the chocolate is Ritter Sport Peppermint (dark chocolate with peppermint filling). Maybe I will have some milk chocolate later.
Oh you are very matchy matchy! And it all sounds delicious.
Mmmm…dark chocolate with peppermint is so good!
Wow that sounds delightful!
A bit cooler here today, but still on the steamier side.
Tea is Numi Green Jasmine iced. Will be wearing No 5 L’Eau a bit later.
Was cool enough this morning, relatively, so that I could open the windows for a couple hours. All closed up again now though!
You’ll be smelling great in L’Eau!
In copious amounts of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu to beat the overwhelming heat and humidity.
On my second cup of coffee and ready to take my mother to some medical tests.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Happy Tuesday, pl67. Hope all goes well for your mom!
Thank you! She has several doctors appointments next week to get the results of the tests. I hope things have not gotten worse since March, when she had her last tests done.
Hey cousin! Hope the tests go smoothly.
Hi cousin! We both smell great!
Tests went smoothly and now back home to cool down.
Yay.
That one has tempted me more than once. Have a great Tuesday! ?
Deva, I can send you some, if you want.
monica67@aol.com
Thank you! Super kind of you and I appreciate it , but I have instigated and participated multiple splits the past couple of months, so I’m all set for now! ?
Good luck to your mom!
Thanks Lillyjo! Hoping she has been stable for the past 3 1/2 months. Praying for it!
Hope everything goes well!
Thank you! Everything went fine, despite her feeling uncomfortable due to the Covid situation out there.
You smell good!
Thank you! ?
Happy Tuesday to you, pl67! Nice to hear that those appointments went smoothly today.
Thank you, Jalapeno! It was an easy and very productive day.
Raided my husband’s collection for his 4711 Acqua Colonia Mandarine and Cardamom. I will be spritzing more on before heading out into the heat.
No tea. A can of Sbux Nitro cold brew that I picked up at AmazonGo yesterday after dropping off returns. I have to say…being able to just drop off unpackaged items is an incredible convenience. And credit comes through immediately.
Drinking a kale, spinach and a bit of pineapple smoothie as my husband heads out to buy himself a croissant. ?
I believe I got in on a split of that one with the fabulous pixel. It’s really wonderful! You smell great. ?
I am trying to eat more healthy…my husband is not haha.
Ugh. My mile walk back from making sandwiches was hideous. It was warm on our floor…AC had trouble keeping up. Then breathing hot air into a mask while walking in the heat and humidity didn’t help.
I just pulled the Jean Naté from the fridge and sprayed bigly. That helped.
Coffee and an English muffin.
Chilly here last night, snuggled under the duvet with windows open.
Some phi rose post shower for facilitating another on line class.
Have not reached for this one in a while.
My sister has to get an iron infusion today, so I will be happy and relieved when I get the text she is home and all okay.
We were windows open sleeping twins. Hoping everything goes fine for her!?
Thanks mtg!
PHI is magic. You (will) smell marvelous!
Envying both your chilly evening and your PHI! Smelling fabulous!!
SOTD is Goldfield and Banks Bohemian Lime?
Oh I am jealous.
NVC Trayee from an adorable travel travel size. I love this size, it absolutely perfect, and I love this perfume. It’s as good as when I tried it way back when it came out.
https://instagram.com/stories/vantasticviews/2362613893217700772?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=v4mqqte385g4
Travel sizes ARE perfect. If more perfumers offered them, I could have more perfume! I guess that’s what decants are for, but I’ve found many of mine evaporating.☹️
Ditto this! Plus I like to have the bottle design on the travel size- silly, I know, but I enjoy spritzing from the original packaging.
I’m with you, Deva. Having the proper bottle matters to me, even though MOSTLY I’m in it for the juice.
It would be great to have a master list of the decant atomizers that don’t have evaporation issues. It seems like the 10ml atomizers Koyel uses don’t evaporate.
Hopefully Koyel sees this and will chime in with what she uses.
I think 30 ml is my perfect bottle size
Same!
Mine too, yasmina.
Unrelated to anything but I see that the book Nomadland , which you mentioned and I read a long while ago, has been made into a film with Frances McDormand. I think she will be great in it.
Woke up in Deneuve extrait this morning. Switching to no 19 edt today. Them Temps are marginally down from the rain last night any yesterday afternoon’s storm but the humidity is killer. I did finish a candle on Sunday and now choosing which I will burn next.
Oh gosh. It’s been so long since I’ve actually finished a candle. You’ve inspired me to and light one.
When I really cleaned out and organized my room, I discovered I had 40 candles. Down to 33 now.
Smelling great in No. 19!
Sampling a couple this morning: Amouage Lilac Love (pretty, perfumey, no lilac for me) & Bracken Woman (interesting, not quite green, not quite woody, not quite floral, needs another try!).
I have my first dentist appt of the year today. I’ll be heading downtown for the for the first time in months, not sure what to expect, but not really looking forward to it.
With luck it won’t be too crowded…
Bracken is really special, reminds me a bit of an expensive washing detergent, butin a good way
Haven’t tried the Bracken but the Lilac Love was a “no” for me. Good luck at your appointment!
I really need to do that and am dreading it. Excellent luck to you!
Happy Tuesday!
Breakfast is avocado toast. We have four avocados to use up today, so lunch will be chips and guac.
Tea is diet Coke. The morning walk was uncomfortably hot and muggy. It was like walking into a hot, wet sponge when I opened the front door, so I couldn’t handle a hot beverage. I love the tea set, Robin, and the price is reasonable!
I’m in Prada Vetiver Infusion today, which is just about right.
Hugs to you two leggeds, and belly rubs to the four leggeds out there. ? ?❤️
??
??
??
??
Yes! ❤️
I love that vetiver infusion in hot weather. You smell great!
Oh you smell PERFECT! I love Prada Vetiver Infusion!
I just topped it off with Fat Electrician. ?
Yummmm avocados are delicious.
Yes, and so were the four little squares of milk chocolate I polished off for dessert. ?
I have zero need for a travel tea set, even during normal times, but glad someone else thought it was cute 🙂
???? Yum!
Wearing L’wren Scott this morning, I love the herbal, spiciness of it, but it is definitely Perfume.
Unrelated question: does anyone know if Hiram Green will be releasing travel sizes again? I’d love 10ml of Arbole Arbole and Moon Bloom, just don’t think I need full bottles (yet).
I’ve read that producing the travel sizes was just too costly; they won’t be coming back.
I think it was the same way with the Tauer travel set.
Thank you for the info! I knew someone would know 🙂
Looks like I’ll be ordering larger decants of both to decide who is full-bottle worthy.
SipOTD: oat milk latte from a cafe, and I made Clafoutis cerises for a friend of mine to have a social distance coffee date.
I was planning on Songes, but I am in Shalimar Souffle d’Oranger
Not that I want to air my dirty laundry on NST, and I am sure I am not alone, but Mr L and I have been at each other throats over school this fall. My youngest will continue his pre-k at a private Montessori school this fall, the same school we have used for the past 3 years for both of our kids.
We are comfortable with this and there is no disagreement there…
My oldest, we just received notice, will attend school 1 day a week, rotating 2 days. This has been the point of contention between us.
I have read that the increase in students having to stay home has led to an increase in the responsibility-gap between men and women in hetero households. Women are taking up more of the new responsibilities in addition to their previous work responsibilities. If true, this does not surprise me, and it it would not surprise me if it leads to an increase in tension in these families!
I feel like I should note that I recognize that there’s lots of room for disagreements on this subject, I was just wondering how the increased stress of a shifting responsibilities dynamic could exacerbate other disagreements. I hope things ease up soon between you and the Mr. ?
There is, and there is no right solution either because so much is unknown. We have this to face now, but who knows what will change this fall.. or next year..and that will open another can of worms..
I think the best thing I did was to talk about it with friends that are in the same boat, because that is all you can do, and they can relate and be sensitive to your feelings.
I’m glad you have friends who can listen and relate! That can make such a difference.
I am sure you are not alone ltsg. I don’t think there’s a parent out there right now that doesn’t have the start of school as the first thing on their minds right now. It has been a huge topic of conversation at my work because I work with all women, most of them mothers. There is no contention in our house because the decision has been made for us. My daughter will start virtually.
I know your daughter is young, but have you included her in any of the conversations? Children can be more insightful and wise than we give them credit for sometimes.☺️I feel ya. Hugs.
She will be in 1st grade this year, in a public school. We haven’t included her, but I appreciate that advice and will take it.
Oh, I feel for you! And everyone who has school age kids. What a mess this is for parents! And kids, too. ?
No matter what, at least I will smell good during the home schooling 😉
I feel for you. My daughter’s school just announced that there will be no in school classes for the first 9 weeks. After that, they don’t know.
It’s very frustrating.
it is! I am frustrated too
But my kids are so oblivious to all of it because they are so small, and I am the one who is freaking out 🙂
Oh gosh I feel for you
It is such a stressful time anyway, even under the best of circumstances we are all by know ‘on our last nerve’’.
I’m so sorry this has become a point of contention, LTSG. Most school districts near Boston have made this a similarly-fraught issue for parents. In that sense there seems little to argue about, but I suspect, as Marjorie Rose mentions, that the burden of remote learning falls most heavily on women.
Planning in my town’s public schools has been nil. Private schools, on the other hand – my experience is with parochial and Montessori – have stepped up.
The children are the biggest losers. My 5 year old grandson has shown marked behavioral regression since shutdown. I’m scrambling to skill up as a teacher to help my daughter, a single mom who runs her own medical practice, fill in. I will be like Sister Mary Elephant!
You are a good soul for stepping up and in…
You are a shining example Anngd!
I would love to know how you like Souffle d’oranger, and I hear you on the school stuff! I’m a teacher, and we’re starting virtually, but I have to choose to send my son to daycare anyway because I can’t possibly teach well with him home with me. I don’t know how everyone is going to manage the many schooling scenarios we’re facing.
I don’t know either
Hugs to you. I can imagine how hard it is for those will small children right now.
Difficult times for all parents right now.
On the bright side, I’m awarding you an enabler pin. I bought a bottle of Shalimar Cologne recently at discount. I wanted a lighter version and that seemed closest to what I wanted.
Drinking black coffee (Mexican Chiapas). Wearing yesterday’s Bombay Bling over Korres mango body butter. Have been in a Mango state of mind. Robin, I need to unsee that cute travel tea set before I impulsively order.
Wow you smell marvelous!
Unsee what??? Nothing to see here.
Doing a spritz-off: Iris Poudre on one arm and Ferre on the other. So far the Iris Poudre has more oomph.
I love Iris Poudre, but it goes away to darned fast for me to commit to a bottle.
The Ferre, if it still can be found, is cheap enough to spray lavishly and repeatedly.
Do you find it to be a pretty acceptable dupe, then?
Pssst… 8 sprays and you also get the superfabulous drydown.
SOTD is Dryad. Thought I was going to break out of my recent 2-bottle rotation again today, but nope. 😀
Why mess with a good thing!
Cute travel tea set! And def a milk chocolate fan and will be sure to indulge later today 😉
SOTD: heading to the dermatologist soon so I’m in a lightly applied Moroccan Tea body spray
Dreading this appointment as I strongly abhor a stranger (even if a Dr.) examining my skin and body so closely and questioning every single something they see. Unfortunately, too much skin cancer in my family to not do it.
Good for you taking care of yourself, even if it’s uncomfortable! I will eventually need to start doing that, too, I expect. I’m fair and freckley, and Dad has had a couple skin cancer scares with the same complexion.
Good luck at the Dr’s office! I understand a bit. Just going to the dentist makes my skin crawl, and I’ve had the same one for over a decade.
good for you, floragal! It’s important to take care of yourself. I’m blondish and blue eyed and grew up in the days of no worries about sun exposure with parents who love the ocean and beach.
Yesterday I had a small lump removed from my skin, it’s probably a cyst or mole. I’ve had others removed in the past so am not worried.
But the lump was in a spot I couldn’t see easily, and it was uncomfortable because I was sitting on it all the time ? and I had to wear thong underwear so the doctor could access easily. ? Oh the indignity of it all! Makes me laugh to think about it this morning.
I wasn’t going to share but did since you are being brave. ?
Lol, thanks for the chuckles and glad you were brave too!
Better safe than sorry, a colleague had two small melanomas removed recently… Just get that checkup
Speaking from recent experience it’s such a good idea to get checked.
Thank you all for being so kind and caring. Glad it’s over! 🙂
Glad you survived your appt floragal!
I have been seeing the same derm for 20 years and he just retired — so selfish, LOL!! Don’t know what I will do now.
Oh, that’s hard. Recently lost my dentist and that was a good 18 years with her. When they’re good we don’t want to let go!
A good dentist is worth their weight in gold!!
Glad to hear that your trip to the dermatologist went well!
Thank you!
SOTM is coffee. I’ll get around to spritz something eventually.
Yesterday I reached out to my powerlifting trainer and asked if there’d be a time we could work together when I’d be the only trainee in the gym.
I’ll return under the barbell on Friday. I’m nervous about it–COVID, of course, but also I’ve been jerryrigging lifting stuff at home for four months. I bet I’ll have so much DOMS I won’t be able to walk on Saturday.
But, I’m excited, too. I miss lifting heavy, I miss how it feels to feel strong and capable like that. Endless lunges and dumbbell presses have become a drag!
What are DOMS, if you don’t mind my asking?
I’m missing the gym, too. No chance of me going back for awhile, with my and my hubster’s risk factors. We did dumbbell work at home at first, trying to replicate our gym routines, but it’s just not the same. After about a month, I gave and started baking cookies. ? Still walking every day, though.
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. That feeling you get when you’ve pushed your muscles past what they are used to doing. 🙂
I have multiple autoimmune diseases and have been told by doctors over the years to assume I’ve “never had a normal immune system.” I won’t be going back to an open gym this year, I expect. But my trainer runs a private gym, and if I’m only interacting with her, I’m feeling OK about that for the moment. We’ll wear face coverings and keep distance between us. Hopefully, it feels safe enough to me; I miss it so much!
I agree working out at home isn’t the same. I do best with that break from home life that comes from a change of setting, so I can just focus on my lifting and no other distractions. I still feel like I benefit from doing SOMETHING, though, so I’ve tried to let that be my focus. Do something. 🙂 And lots of walking.
Just mentioning that you should look at their air exchange/ventilation system at the gym first.
If someone was there 3 hours ago huffing and puffing, it’s possible particles are still airborne. Not trying to scare you, but with your health issues, I would suggest being very, very careful. It’s none of my business, so I’ll shut up now. ?
I appreciate your concern. There will always be risks. My husband is doing all the grocery shopping now, and if schools are reopened before community spread is under control, I will have to transfer to an online-only position. I’m trying to balance all that with my mental health. Hopefully, I’m finding a reasonable balance!
Deva this is exactly why I have not been to the dentist. I don’t understand why they emphasize their cleaning procedures as though that is all you have to worry about.
Don’t know if you’ll see this Robin, but you are right to wait. I think most businesses are trying recoup lost income, sadly. Also, dental offices use equipment that can aerosolize secretions, water, etc. Those micro particles can be suspended in air for quite a long time if they are not exhausted out into the atmosphere.
Oh I will see it, but maybe not til several days later 😉
Thanks for the confirmation!
Yep an endorphin high is the best.
It sounds like some variation of at home, private or an outdoor change of scenery workout are great options for you. As much as I’d miss the equipment at the gym it may be a safer bet for you.
How are you going to deal with the face covering?
I have been doing strength training and Pilates during my WFH time, and while I do miss my Pilates studio, my teachers have been online and have been a help with guidance.
You are taking precautions and i am sure your trainer knows about your issues. I do hope your trainer takes care of the HVAC systems and airs out the space.
The gym is basically open on one side, with windows all along one wall. I think it’s as good as ventilation can be in such a circumstance.
I assume you’re not doing the kind of pilates that requires all the machines and thingys? Seems like there’s lots of varieties out there, some more equipment heavy than others.
I have a reformer machine at home, but not all the accessories, which really should be used with a trainer. (my desk job does a number on my posture!) Mat Pilates is VERY good and very intense to start, then the reformer really helps with core and alignment. Because I am not at my work campus, I can’t use the studio in Wilsonville, I have been following a couple of online trainers. I am thinking of joining Firebrand Studios in the fall.
Yay for you! I hope all goes well ?
I found a bodybuilder friend who has deep experience coaching beginners.
He has the weights. We work out in my backyard. Today is leg day again. So far it has been fun!
Oh, I LOOOOVE bodybuilding-style training! It was my first real weightlifting love. I think I’ll always wish I was swole. ? Lucky you to find a way to do it outside with a friend!
I hired my trainer 6 months before the pandemic, and it was such fun to train a new way–to focus on how strong I could get. I do love the physique stuff, but it’s nice to see measureable progress, and adding weight to the bar is easier to measure than biceps circumference!
yes! I’m not too concerned with changing my size. I wanna get strong.
???
Barbell? Wow. I’m very pleased with myself if I commit to the 3-lb weights currently collecting a layer of dust in the corner.
Enjoy your time back to training!
I think it would be difficult to feel inspired by 3lb weights. 😉 That said, I’ve built my strength truly from zero, and there were times when the little dumbbells were plenty for me. All strength is good strength!
The humidity broke so I am working on the back deck. I LOVE being outside and am already dreading winter, which comes very early here. I feel like I only have a month max left of sunshine and outdoor time.
SOTD is Bigarade Concentree, which is fast shaping to be best of the summer for me.
Speaking of best of summer, sample swap call: Would anyone have a sample of Mandarine Basilic and/or Azemours les Orangers they want to swap with me for? I can offer samples of Aqua Allegoria Pampelune, Brooklyn Gallivant, Jazmin Sarai How You Love (among other summery scents).
Send me an email at yasminzasquared in geemale land if you are interested!
Nice! I have barely been outside for weeks.
I think we are due for a few more days of very pleasant weather here – I am so grateful!
Earth Mother EDP today from a generous NSTer. ? Love this one…definitely more oomph than the oil. Reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez For Her in some ways with more patchouli and added sage. I need to make a list of what perfume I want to buy for the rest of the year to see if my remaining perfume budget can accommodate it. Debating if I sell some bottles on EvilBay if I can add that to my perfume budget as well…somewhat logical somewhat not…eahehe??
Also trying not to order lipsticks w/ the various sales going on for Nat’l Lipstick Day (technically tomorrow I think) this week…but it is sorely tempting w/ some of the deals.?
what will you wear for national lipstick day
I miss lipstick! I’m required to wear a mask all day at work and everywhere else, too. Of course it’s important, but lipstick doesn’t make sense under those conditions. I think I’m going to start wearing red lipstick around the house.?
Do it!
This is a great idea. I was just thinking this morning (Wednesday already) about how even National Lipstick Day (!) may not be enough for me to put on anything other than Burt’s Bees colorless balm. I have a drawer of beautiful reds and pinky browns — probably all going waxy in the summer funk.
Yesss for National Lipstick Day!
Iced coffee with almond milk. SOTD is a layer of Nuxe body oil from a sample, very nice, must resist.
Reading the turkey comments, my French Grandmother raised those large grey geese. They terrified me, my brother and my cousins! They’d chase us through the yard nipping at the back of your legs, honking loudly. They still give me nightmares. We’d cheer at the holidays with goose on the table. One more down! LOL
And oh my, that travel tea set is wonderful. I truly don’t need it, but very tempting. And wow, the price is reasonable.
LOL about your grandmother’s geese! I had a friend who felt the same way about her aunt’s mean goats.
Geese are EVIL! And delicious…
We had geese when I was a kid. They were the best watch”dogs,” honking like made as soon as a car approached the house. My little brother was nipped often, but I was so frightened of them that I kept my distance. And the mess in the yard (they had a large pen, but wandered at will) — ick.
The eggs were often taken by snakes, so our population dwindled, and one year we returned from a holiday visit to my grandmother to find that all were gone — with evidence that they had been shot, either for sport or (we hope) for food.
*honking “like mad” — I fixed so many autocorrect errors in that comment, but missed this one!
I had an anxiety filled meeting this morning, which I don’t think ended in my favor. It was over the phone, so I was able to wear Tobacco Vanille. I love it, plus it makes me feel cool to wear it. Cool as in Fonzi, not temperature cool.?
All I can do is keep smelling good ans keep laughing. It’s better than stinking and crying!
“It’s better than stinking and crying!”
My mantra for today
My mantra for every day, lately.
I hope it works! I ended up crying anyway. Still smell good though!
Sending good thoughts your way — I hope the meetings get better!
Sorry for the troublesome phone call. Hoping the rest of the day will go better, you smell delicious?
Thank you Aurora.
Gosh, sorry about the meeting! I sometimes feel *certain types* of people are letting out their inner ugly right now, adding insult to injury during a very stressful time for everyone. I don’t know why this is, on a psychological level. You’d think we’d all be a bit more gentle with others right now…
The other day at the gas station, a guy came in and asked for a cup of water. The clerk says he has to pay 25 cents. He didn’t have it, and she says he can’t have the water! I, of course gave him the quarter. But I thought that was just rotten of the clerk to be so insensitive. There was probably fifty pennies in the little coin jar she could have used if she was so worried about the company losing money. Empathy is a lost virtue, it seems.
See, that’s just a nasty person. I may be judging, but I don’t care. I used to frequent a Dunkin’ Donuts back home and regularly saw the same homeless looking woman sitting in the same chair, so one day I sat next to her and started talking to her. Yep, she was homeless, and yurns out that DD would give her a free bagel and coffee almost every morning. ❤️
She would sit there and charge her phone and then be in her way. When the zombie apocalypse happens, I’m heading to that DD because there’s good people there.
I needed to hear that story. As lillyjo said, it seems empathy is a lost virtue these days.
Sorry about the meeting, lillyjo. Hope it gets better soon!
Thanks!
Tobacco Vanille is beautiful! I think of it as strong and comforting at the same time. Hugs to you, lillyjo!
I think of it the same way, tiffanie.
Idyllwild today for me.
So sorry your morning wasn’t the best. Hugs. And you do smell great!
Sorry Lillyjo. I hope tomorrow is better.
Ugh, sorry to hear that your meeting this morning wasn’t promising. Thank goodness you have your perfume stash!
Sorry about your meeting, but you never know! And you smell great!
Azemour for me today — my decant was calling, after not wearing it for some time. Supposed to be hot here today (“hot” has a different meaning in Cascadia) — only 26 or 27 C but still quite toasty for here. I shouldn’t complain as just last week we were all annoyed at the fact that summer hadn’t yet arrived. I’m going to get out of the house to get another coffee, then sit in the back yard to work while it’s still cool outside.
I’d give anything to change places with you. It’s full on summer here aka The Depths of Hel* ?
I’d be willing to trade for a day, but probably not more! (I can’t take the humidity any longer — I’m a weenie when it comes to humidity.) My relatives back East have said it’s been bad this year. Meanwhile, CBC ran an article last week on how this is the latest start to summer in the last 30 years here in BC.
Well, I’m with you! I have seriously thought about spending all my summer months in that area. I was in Alberta, BC, and YT last year and I LOVED Canada. Everyone I met was kind and helpful and BC especially is just spectacular! Considering citizenship there if things don’t change down here in November! ??
There’s a sofa bed in Vancouver I’m guessing I could get a spot in, if I were in need of it. But I’m gonna stay here. The resistance needs me. ?
Oooh, jealous that you’ve been to YT — I’ve never been. It’s crazy how big BC is, and seems we always leave the country for vacation. I tried to plan a trip to northern BC when I had to scrap our major bucket list trip this summer, but even that didn’t happen due to travel restrictions. We made do in southern BC, which is nothing to sneeze at, I know! Do continue to fight the good fight down there, though. 😀
Hajusuuri offered me the same, but I think “a few days” of heat and humidity is all I have in me. 🙂
Offer is still open ???
Bulgari Eau the Blanc. Another sample thunk. Pretty enough, but dont need any more. Slightly cooler today so got a nice walk in. Am drinking Afternoon Darjeeling from Taylor’s of Harrogate with a little Hershey’s Special Dark.
I’m fairly certain I’d punch a coworker right now for a piece of dark chocolate. Not really of course…but I mean… 😀
Throat punch? ?
Basically the best kind of punch. 😉
This made me laugh ?
I started the day with Miller Harris Jasmin Vert, will have to do something for my bottle, it leaks slightly, will use parafilmm hope it works.
I am now wearing l’Occitane Eau des Baux, usually I use it in winter but it was windy and fresh today so I’m quite liking its tobacco vibe after the Christmas tree opening.
Tobacco twins!?
Yes we are!
My hubs wears that one a good bit and I spritz occasionally as well (though he is extremely stingy with his perfume ha!). You smell great.
Thank you Kelly, you have a great smelling husband.
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau

My favorite owl so far!
This owl got the most like comments!
I would love a decant of this, you smell gorgeous
Thank you. If I see unusual packaging, I get it so I basically now have a vat of it.
You smell super good!
Thank you!
That owl is adorable! ?
I love it too!
Oh summer, where art thou?
60 degrees out, and grey. I’m in Boy, which fits my chill! Feeling the need for LAVENDER, last night I ordered 500 long stems of French lavender from my favorite purveyor on Etsy, and am looking forward to sprucing up the joint once it arrives.
Yesterday I finally put together a project I’ve been planning for a friend. I decanted ten 2 ml samples, labeling them 1 -10. I provided a key, in a sealed envelope. The key lists the numbers with the corresponding perfume names, houses, notes (per the house), and cost per ml. My friend and her college-age daughter love perfume, so I thought it would be a fun activity for them to do together. Testing the samples and writing down what they think they smell, rating each, ranking them, guessing the cost… etc. The only fly in the ointment is that belatedly I realized that my focus on woodsy/wood pudding scents was a reflection of how cold it is here. They are in Providence, which hit a high of 96 yesterday. Wonder how the ouds, patchoulis, and smoky vetivers will do in that climate?
Ah! In PDX it was 100F for the past two days. I suspect that you drove east of where you lived you would have been hit with a blanket of heat!
Oh my, who do you order lavender from? I’d love a huge bunch of fresh stems right now.
No affiliation–but I have been ordering from this woman since 2012! On Etsy, her business is called paulajeansgarden. She is really great about getting back to you quickly if you have a question. I wanted very long stems, so I consulted with her about which type of lavender would work best, etc. etc.
Thank you!
I’d love to send you some of my heat & humidity Oakland Fresca.
Good news, they are likely in A/C.
I’m wearing Bvlgari Rose Rose today. It’s just ok, but it’s lasting forever. I’m ready for it to wear off so that I can replace it with something more interesting!
I had a bottle of that once as well. I loved the bottle, and the color of the juice, but the perfume–to me–was just okay. I never replaced it.
I think someone gave me my bottle, and I do wear it from time to time but never with very different results.
1) Am still in Cap Neroli. And will order a third bottle.
2) Just got a humane trap from a vegan friend for the mom cat-if she visits again, I will set it out and see what happens.
3) Will be doing the starts for the fall garden today!
4) ALSO: If you are a fan of Patou fragrances, consider buying a bottle or two NOW. They will no longer be in production. I knew Joy was discontinued and so bought a big bottle a few months ago. Now, I am gonna buy a bottle of 1000 s I can smell ‘vintagely fresh’
Good to know. I’ve always wanted a bottle of Sublime.
I hope you’re able to catch mom! If she can get back with her kittens, that would be the best for all of them! Plus she can get spayed. Thank you from the bottom of my animal loving ❤️
It’s been a week and the kitties are in foster, being reared lovingly (it’s kill shelters here, and from what they told me with the pandemic, the uprisings here in Portland and it just being a time of reproduction for cats, they simply do not have the resources to hold on to kittens and raise them- so people ‘foster’ kittens and raise them so that they can be well loved house cats). My hope to catch Mom Cat when she comes by (she was truly meowing and looking for her kittens) and get her spayed.
Ah, I see! I thought just a day had passed. I hope they all find homes. It kills me to think of all the animals that get euthanized and thrown into a heap for mass burnings..?
Yeah, it’s pretty horrible! Mom cat is a community cat – she is fed by people in the neighborhood. But it’s best to have her spayed so there is reduced suffering of kittens and cats.
Yay for fall gardens!
Oh yes- it’s so warm to even thing about fall- but it will come, universe willing, and I want to do succession planting.
Sounds like Azemour!
SotD = Tam Dao
Such a perfect name for a serene perfume. Saying Tam Dao aloud recalls the sonorous ring of a temple bell.
I will wear Avignon next. Craving woody scents and incense scents lately, and I notice I have many samples but perhaps just one or two full bottles. ?
Uh oh! ?
Tam Dao and Avignon are two of my favs! You are smelling awesome!
Taking inventory of perfume bottles can be dangerous to the wallet! ?
Blackberry & Bay yesterday and Assam of India today. over 100 the next few days and those keep me feeling fresh.
Reeeallly not feeling work and a million conference calls today. My bed is calling me.
You smell perfect two days running! ?
true confessions time:
I almost wore Assam today, my bottle is on my bureau for tomorrow.
I woke up, did necessary work, and am now back in bed. ? Decided Tuesday is not happening for me. ?
I would ask if I can come get back in bed with you, but that would probably not come out right ha!
? ha, yes! Tho we are miles apart, so it’s all good.
Today was officially Heat Wave #3 for me this summer. Had a slow start, but it is making up for lost time and temp!
Hot weather starts tomorrow for me 🙁
Lots of cologne and cologne-adjacent scents on deck! 🙂
Jasmin Angélique for my birthday. My boyfriend make lots of rolls to take to my coworkers plus a Bavarian sausage salad. I made some Hummus and a bavarian cheese called Obazda, made from smashed Camembert, paprika, butter and caraway seeds.
I got a cookbook from Nigel Slater and now we are having a nice glass of rose from Württemberg.
Happy Birthday! You smell wonderful ?
Time to celebrate! ????
Hope it is a happy day for you.
And you smell beautiful. ?
A friend shared a sample of JA with me, I must find it today. I’m imagining it smells lovely in warm weather.
Happy Birthday to you! ?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Tannina! ???
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday and happy adventures for the whole year
Well, I had to look up Obazda! Looking at photos, I thought that would be fun party dip sort of thing. Then I remembered that it will be a while before any parties with dips happen again in my neck of the woods. Do you put butter in yours?
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
OOPS. I see you mentioned butter. Oy.
Happy Birthday! All of your food descriptions are making me drool! Hope the day was great!
Happy Scented Birthday tannina! Enjoy! ?????
Happy Birthday, tannina!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday and your menu sounds very festive. Will try that cheese blend!
Happy birthday, tannina! Nigel Slater books are such a delight to read. Enjoy!
Happy Birthday Tannina, you do smell fabulous! I hope it was a great day.
Mmm…Obatzda! Sounds like a lovely birthday — happy birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
Belated happy birthday!
Late to the party.
SotE is Le Cri!
(After a busy work day, a horse riding lesson and a hot shower)
In one of my winter favourites today – Olfactive Studio Chambre Noir.
You smell nice!
Copper again. I think this is one of my most-worn perfumes even though it is not really a winter scent. It is just a good daily scent, I think.
Copper always reminds me of you, even though I haven’t smelled it.
It smells like an ashtray with violets . I’m sorry to hear you are having such a tough time recently. I really hope things improve soon
Violets and ashtrays! That would work for me! Will have to give it a try.
Thank you.
Nice to have an “old reliable” in the perfume wardrobe. Especially if it is a 4-season one.
Good for you Kanuka, something that works so often is a lucky gem. I am dying to get my sample of that one! I love the bottle too. It sounds just like what I’d imagine, somehow a scent you can live in and just feels like you. A natural easy fit.
Well, I have National Milk Chocolate Day covered, since I’ve already been in the chocolate stash today. I have Marjorie Rose to thank for one of my favorite chocolate bars, Endangered Species Smooth + Creamy Milk Chocolate. It tastes more like a dark chocolate with a hint of caramel in it to me, which is a bonus.
SOTD = back in Wrappings again today. It makes this horrid, sticky weather tolerable. But both cats are enjoying the weather… they seek out the warmest places in the house, and pout a bit when the A/C comes on. ??
Yum! That is an excellent bar of chocolate! Is that from my New Years Resolution to eat more chocolate?! I forgot I’d posted about that. ???
It might very well have been your New Year’s Resolution. That certainly was a very active and engaged thread, wasn’t it? ?
Milk chocolate ?
Wrappings ?
If you see the Endangered Species at your Wegman’s, give it a try. You might like it… I sure was surprised by it!
Vert d’Encens for me today
I’m wearing Chypre Mousse. I smell green and cool even if I’m not.
Love that perfume. How’s your surgery rehab going?
Not too bad. Two steps forward one step back. I think I try to do too much and then stuff hurts. How’s Alex, ear mostly healed? Margins clean? He’s so lucky you noticed it.
Wearing Guerlain Vetiver tonight. Hope that everyone is staying cool!
That one is definitely a “reference vetiver”!
I’ve always meant to try it and have never gotten around to it, but I’m sure you smell lovely, as vetivers in general are great!
The travel tea set reminded me of this book: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/90740 for the intrepid steampunk traveler who still wishes to have a proper cup of tea on their travels. 😀
Happy reading!
