Italian niche brand Masque Milano has launched a new collection, Le Donne di Masque, with two fragrances, Petra and Dolceacqua.
Petra ~ "A mysterious scene... "On a morning from a Bogart movie. In a country where they turned back time. You go strolling in the crowd like Peter Lorrie, contemplating a crime. She comes out from the crowd in a silk dress running like a watercolour in the rain. These days - she says - I feel my life just like a river running through the Year of the Cat. On a blue tiled wall by the market stall there's a hidden door she leads you to…" Developed by perfumer Cécile Zarokian, with bergamot, mandarin, pink pepper, jasmine, rose, luqaimat accord (a fried dumpling, often made with saffron), fruity notes, incense, patchouli, benzoin, myrrh, leather and amber.
Dolceacqua ~ "Nice, 8am. Sunshine and light traffic on the Promenade des Anglais. Here she comes, with the soft top down, and you jump in. As the road unwinds, the view of the gulf suddenly becomes amazing. Her colourful Hermes foulard sweeps with the breeze and you breathe deeply to catch the rich mixture of Cote d'Azur flavours, in their magic blend of floral and marine. She parks in a panoramic spot and draws out of the back of the car a basket with your breakfast. She doesn't mind sitting on the ground, she bought her lovely dress at the market stalls for a few dollars and it is not worth worrying about. What a woman! - you think - she can match a few-dollar-dress with such an astonishing pearl necklace. You open a bottle of Beaujolais wine, and lean towards her to pour some wine into her glass. You can't help stopping pouring wine and close your eyes, as you smell her perfume. So much in line with her, with her style: sweet and mellow, a mixture of flowers and fruit and some hints of vanilla at the bottom." Developed by perfumer Delphine Thierry, with coastal breeze accord, muguet, ivy leaves, marjoram, mimosa, almond flower, white rose, ylang ylang, saffron, cedar, benzoin, oakmoss and musks.
Masque Milano Petra and Dolceacqua are available in numbered limited editions for the brand's 10th anniversary. They can be found now at Luckyscent, $360 each for 100 ml.

Thanks, lillyjo!

Oh, my, I agree with Nancy. Petra sounds lovely. I would definitely participate in a blind split were one to be offered…or maybe I should just order a sample first and not rush things.
Everything I’ve sniffed of theirs has been of excellent quality, but a sample wouldn’t be amiss.
I agree with the rest. Petra sounds really good! I would even go for a blind buy……
Here I am hankering over Dolceacqua as long as “coastal breeze accord” is not a hifalutin’ way of describing the dreaded calone ?
Yep, that made me pause, too.
Between the two of these, Dolceacqua appeals to me way more, with the same concern.
On Fragrantica, there’s a listing for the same-named fragrance released in 2012, and it doesn’t sound much like the description for this limited-ed bottle.
They have both been reformulated by new perfumers and new flacons.
And here *I* am, stuck on the idea of Beaujolais at 8 a.m. — which I find stomach-turning, even though I’ve no problem with a mimosa or a good spicy Bloody Mary. I suppose I’ve lived my life the wrong way….
Man, l really like this brand’s fragrances, but the pretentious copy is getting me down. Must the scarf be Hermès?
The notes seem interesting. The copy is awkwardly written. Doesn’t seem to help sell the composition as much as the notes.
