Tuesday, the last day of June, Asteroid Day, Lena Horne's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Boy Chanel. Tea at the moment is a mix of Halmari Estate Assam from Upton and Numi Chinese Breakfast, with a splash of milk and a pinch of shaved nutmeg.
Reminder: on 7/3, wear a perfume with ylang ylang, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Flora Japonica pattern from Tokyo Design Studio. The teapot, shown at right, is on Amazon for $53. For $77, you can get the teapot plus 4 Japanese style tea cups.
I am looking forward to Friday as I love ylang ylang.
Your tea sounds delicious, Robin, I do adore nutmeg,
Very nice tea set but I (personally) don’t buy things from amazon so I’ll have to give it a miss.
I bought a nice nutmeg grater earlier this year, it is very handy — I used to have one of the hand held ones that scraped the skin off the side of my fingers 😉
What sort of grater? I always get knuckles with my nutmeg
It’s the Peugeot Daman Nutmeg Mill. Probably too expensive if you don’t use a lot of nutmeg, but I use nutmeg almost every day for something or another.
Oh, I am, really early today…. CP points for my green flowerbomb cheapie Cabotine. Sadly just one more day off and a routine mammogram scheduled for tomorrow morning
You are early! And thanks for the reminder, I really need to schedule a mammogram soon.
It seems we are all on the same ‘squish tha ta-tahs’ schedule. I’m due also. Good luck at tomorrow’s mammogram!
I’m basically two raisins on a washboard, I keep telling my Mammogram tech there should be a minimum size requirement and I don’t make the cut, but she ignores me every year.
She ain’t buying it. 🙂
Last year, they found a few spots they are keeping an eye on, and biopsied – so we’ll see what happens this year. I keep a sense of humor about it. 😀
Too funny, you!
I am 2+ years overdue because of the pain of doing this. I need to find another way as it’s that bad.
Ask if you can have an ultrasound!
I will! Thanks.
If you are still getting a regular mammogram tomorrow, take some Advil before. It does help.
I love Assam Halmari. I always take mine with milk as well, but without nutmeg. I keep that for mashed potatoes.
SOTD is Le Rivage des Syrtes by MDCI. Which apparently has Ylang-Ylang.
Tea is Su Li Cha, a Chinese tea flavoured with chrysanthemums. It is spicy and really nice.
Nutmeg on chocolate ice cream is really worth trying!
I can see how that would work, thanks for the tip!
I like nutmeg on cauliflower and/or Brussels sprouts.
Oh have not tried on brussel sprouts, I will do that!
That tea sounds lovely.
It is. I can no longer buy it, but I’m enjoying what I’ve got left of it.
I’m wearing Vetiver Oriental. I grabbed my bottle of L’Eau de Sport, but I decided to wear the vetiver from a sample instead. It seems a little soapy on my skin. I should have gone with the L’Eau de Sport instead, which I love.
Who makes L’Eau de Sport? Is that Lacoste?
I was thinking it was the Nicolai? What used to be Balle de Match?
It is the only Eau de Sport I know.
Oh, got it. Forgot about that one.
Although “Eau de Sport” is the secret name of the vast majority of dude scents…
🙂
I’m in No. 19 today. We’re having a misty, rainy, cool day in Seattle. Which is fine as I took a long walk yesterday and have lots of work this morning. Yoga first.
namaste
Thanks. It was Five Parks Yoga on youtube – I thought it was excellent:

I’m wearing Moroccan Mint Tea, a body spray by Stories. For a body spray, it is surprisingly long-lasting but linear It’s refreshing for summertime use.
I went for an extra-long walk this morning since the temps are so good for exercise — 70!
Any NY’ers experience yesterday’s hail? I had gone out for a bike ride and made it 2 blocks when I decided to turn back. So glad I did because within 10 minutes pieces of ice some a good half-inch thick started coming down.
Wow, crazy weather. I’ve been caught outside in hailstorms when we lived in Colorado and they hurt! Glad you turned back.
We got your hail…it must have taken a wrong turn or got lost!
No hail in SJ yesterday, thankfully.
Wearing EL Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang with one squirt of Amber Mystique at the back of the neck. If I was to pair Ylang Ylang with a beer it would be a Hefeweizen. This creamy wheat beer with a complex nose quite suggestive of bananas is a perfect match for any Ylang Ylang centric fragrance.
My very favorite Hefeweizen is Widmer, but I don’t get banana from it. It’s the perfect summer beer with a little lemon squeezed in. I need to get some!
You’re making me want to follow up my morning coffee with a beer chaser!
It’s always 5:00 pm somewhere! 😉
If you’re a big fan, try finding some Memminger. I like that one, but I’m not a connoisseur of Hefeweizen. But it’s common enough in Germany that I have had all the standard ones, and Memminger gets my vote, plus Weihenstephaner.
Also love Weihenstephaner – I’ve been to the brewery in the former abbey to drink it in person!
Oh, you smell great, I’ll wear it sometime this week too.
I love all Hefeweizens! You just made me much more excited about the CP.
Hefeweizens are a great beer for 4th of July celebrations. ??✨
Shalimar
One of my favorite thrift stores opened yesterday. I did some damage.
I bought a M missoni dress and M Missoni top, a blouse with fun ribbons at the sleeve and a dress by some unknown designer to me, but is very D&Gesq, white with big red roses. I spent 120. I am just happy they survived the shut down. I couldn’t try anything on, but everything fit
Congratulations! I can’t believe you got all those things for $120! A steal! Can’t wait to see the photos. (What’s the name of the designer of that last blouse?)
I am not sure, the tag was ripped out.
The best was the Missoni, of course. Its like I have zig zags in my blood, I am sucker for chevron stripes
Congrats on the finds! I do love thrift stores, I miss the old ones in the Village – they had such gems! Vintage, designer, and everything inbetween!
I found a few vintage shops in SF, I find heading to the nicer neighborhoods increases my chances of finding a designer steal, but most sizes are 4 or 6, I have to search carefully.
The last time I scored, it was a vintage Balmain dress from the 1970s, and an Escada cashmere blazer in fire engine red.
My steal was a Brunello Cucinelli sweater tunic, and a Prada coat
My sister-in-law found a full-length white fox fur coat at Goodwill in Iron Mountain, Michigan. That’s in the Upper Peninsula. It is gorgeous. While in general I don’t approve of fur, in the climate up there it’s very useful. It was about $25.
Retail open? Love hearing this! Looking forward to shopping again.
https://www.insider.com/pictures-of-sink-watercolor-painting-artist-marta-grossi-italy-2020-6?amp
I saw this and thought of you because the artist is Italian but also because it is something you could do with your children.
I love this! Thank you for thinking of me and sharing this…
This all sounds fabulous and makes me wish I could vintage shop in NYC!
It’s another hot day outside. It’s going to be hot for a while. Jake is doing better. The vet said that his bloodwork was normal and didn’t give an answer to why he was having bloody diarrhea. She gave us some medication for his tummy. Dad left to visit my sister in California today. Wearing ISM today to combat the heat.
Glad Jake is doing better. Is your mom going too?
She is going later on, probably August. We just want to make sure Jake is really going to be alright.
Yay for Jake! (Maybe he ate something bad and will get it out of his system.)
We think that he might have eaten some poop. We have a partially wooded lot with rabbits, squirrels among other things, who knows. He’s an older guy, making him more susceptible to this stuff.
I’m glad Jake is doing better. It’s so hard when pets are sick.
Good report from the Vet’s! That’s great!
Le Labo Ylang 49. It is the heaviest, the darkest ylang scent I have, so I picked the coolest day of the week to wear it. This perfume is awesome, but can be overwhelming sometimes.
You smell great! I’m glad you got a cool day.
Thank you! A nice break from heat.
SOTD = Chanel Bois des Iles EDT
(I’m surprised it wasn’t corrected to Box of Eels ?)
It was bound to happen – I got thrown out of Rosary Brigade. After a philosophical (euphemism if I need to spell it out) disagreement, and Fisms strewn about (not by me – I would never), I was “asked” to not join anymore. I have absolutely zero problems with that for a number of reasons, including, unfortunately, the extremely venomous diatribe of someone who is supposedly a prayer paragon.
This post was longer and I decided to practice discretion and stay within the parameters of the comment policy.
This of course reminded me of when I was sent to the principal’s office on the first day of pre-K. I kid you not.
Now what will I do with the 70 minutes extra I now have everyday? ?. I’ll decide once I finish my tax returns!
I’m sure you will find a good use for those extra minutes, and probably more peace of mind, too.
That’s for sure! Thank you.
You smell fabulous at least and too bad for them I say.
You will do something wonderful.
Thank you. No sourdough yet. I managed to get a handheld mixer over the weekend so I think I am ready for banana-less banana pudding. I read that bananas turn a yucky brown when exposed to the air and I want my pudding base to be pristine.
Yep, bananas will turn that goopy brown if left out in the air for a while. I think that a bit of lemon juice might prevent that.
I do wish I wasn’t sensitive to ingesting lemons (I think I overdid it though and accidentally stayed in the sun for 15 minutes).
Yikes! I know my mom sometimes used something called “Fruit Fresh” to keep cut apples and such from browning when I was a kid. I haven’t the foggiest idea if it is still even around. I do remember that it was mostly Vitamin C/ascorbic acid.
Unless you had suggested praying to the devil, I think it’s awful that the leader asked you to not join in prayer.
Laughed out loud at the pre-k ?
No, but I thought we were over the hump and I called her out on yet another thing she posted. What I have decided is that the longer the response, the more guilt has set in to the writer. No, it’s never about her, it’s always because of her concern for someone else and she was projecting, even including blaming her actions on her husband.
Maybe do some meditation at home. In my opinion those prayer circles are often just for show, but not very Christian themselves
Meditation seems to be a good use of the time!
Might I suggest meditation….send some good energy out into the universe and it will make you feel good as well. That’s whole point of prayer, engage the spirit for good works. I once had a nun call me “a bold and brazen article” so the principal’s office holds no fear for me!!
LOL. We actually had lay teachers but the principal and disciplinarian were both priests.
Sorry for that – even if it you are ok with it, it still must have been unpleasant at least.
70 minutes every day – that’s a nice chunk of time!
Let’s just say that I was sad to see her reaction – definitely worthy of an academy award. I really don’t know how she can live with herself after all that she said. Something is eating at her to the point that she has gotten really forgetful (and I refuse to think it is something organic).
oh man!
Every Monday we do “mindfulness Mondays” at home. My oldest, who is 5, now can lead the meditation, if you need some ideas. We started 2.5 years ago and have kept it up. Even on vacations.
It’s great that you’re doing this with the kids!
Ah, a Rosary Rebel! Smelling good though.
Thanks. Truth be told, I was considering easing away but circumstances presented themselves – maybe it was meant to be?
I would love to hear the story about the first day of pre-K. I’m sorry that a beautiful thing like a prayer circle turned into such a fiasco.
My dad used to bring me with him to drop off my older brother. I was the angelic little sister who really wanted to stay and learn. When it was my turn, I turned into a hellion and kicked the teacher (same as my brother’s) on the shins and got sent to the principal’s office. Not a very auspicious start.
Sad to say, I kind of figured something might happen re: Rosary Brigade. Less stress in your life as an end result, though.
Well, my sister is still attending and I just figured out that it will make the organizer as well as some of the other participants who were bystanders uncomfortable. It is what it is. It is definitely less stress for me since I now don’t have to live by the clock to make sure I’m on time.
I’m sure you’ll find something to fill that time. 🙂 Sad that some of the people in the group were like that.
tea was coffee
fresh strawberries that were really sweet and good. Sometimes you never know.
Post shower maybe a spray or two of Tigers Nest. Its a cool day still along the water here in SoCal, so I may as well enjoy it.
The strawberries from WholeFoods had been particularly good. The cherries too. Both organic.
I am wearing Hermessence Cedre Sambac and drinking a cup of Shalimar tea.
You smell lovely Barqs and your tea sounds delicious ?
Thank you 🙂
jealous of your tea. I am sure I finished mine.
I just finished one canister of it, and I have a backup I purchased almost two years ago in Paris 🙂
Hi all, my SOTD is Chanel No. 5 edc, loads of ylang ylang. 🙂
Really having difficulty waking up, so will have another cup of coffee and work for a few hours before heading out for my walk.
No 5 is wonderful, especially vintage.
May have to join you in the no 5.–have a wonderful vintage edt that’s super ylangy. Just back from a walk, it’s muggy & humid, so right now I’m sporting mosquito repellent pre-shower.
Don’t know if I’ve sung its praises here before, but Cutter Dry Unscented in the least obnoxious spray I’ve found.
Thanks for the info on bug spray!
Good to know about the bug spray! Mosquitoes love me…
I think if it’s warm, I may wear No. 22 tomorrow, another great powdery ylang ylang bomb!
Feeling like another cup of coffee soon too. I think I’ll go for a walk around 2:30pm and pick up a cup outdoors.
I was in a training this morning and this afternoon – I managed to scoot out the door at lunch for 3.5 miles, gorgeous and sunny in SF today.
I had a hard time waking up too..
Thanks for all your information yesterday about where to find some perfume goodies!
You’re welcome! Happy to help enable! I’ve had great luck at the Guerlain salon at the Breakers…
You smell fabulous Robin.
I may have to join you.
The more the merrier 🙂
My weather is going to be stuck in the nineties for at least a week. I’m dreading the electric bill, but it’s hot!
Orange Sanguine to the rescue ???????
I don’t have an orange emoji, lol!
Here, have an ?
Lol! I have that one, but thought it was a pumpkin!?
Orange Sanguine is ideal for the heat, ylang-ylang will bloom too. Stay cool.
If you have Vanille Insensee, you’ve got the Creamsicle CP in the bag!
Hello all!
Preheating my oven for a new loaf so I thought I would say hello! I miss you all!
I have a dab of 80’s Coco EdP on behind the ears and across my wrists. Feeling a bit indulgent.
Events are getting serious here in Houston so I’ve been wearing a mask and a face shield. Getting crazy looks but better safe than sorry!
Be safe all!
Are you back at work work besides your home baking?
Do wear your mask! Worried about my TX family. Numbers are changing quickly in the wrong direction.
The situation in Texas sounds awful at the moment so good on you for taking it seriously. I hope the bread and Coco improves your day. Do you have yeast? We suddenly have shelves of the stuff again .
Yes our situation is terrible here. Just got word that two more workers at Mom’s facility have tested positive. That’s a total of six or seven, I’m not sure. Most of them have been on areas of the staff that don’t have direct resident contact, but it’s still scary. They’re doing frequent testing and very careful about all sanitary practices and they’re pretty locked down overall. Most who tested positive were asymptomatic at the time but two went on to develop the illness and one had to be hospitalised. Scary scary stuff.
Oh gosh, that’s worrisome! Hoping and praying your mom and all the residents stay safe and healthy…
Stay safe and healthy! My thoughts are with you from another badly trending area. I hope your bread turns out beautifully.
Hoping that NSTers and their loved ones in the Houston area stay safe! ?
Wow, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose…. I was frustrated by the single ml dauber-thingy from Kyse perfumes and pried off the lid with a little too much violence. I am now radiating Miele–nuclear levels. This smells like a pleasant smell you bump into unpacking treasures in the attic, but I am not loving it as a perfume–especially at this volume.
Similar is my frustration with roller balls – just not a fan. If anyone has a trusted video of how to successfully prise out the ball and decant into a spritz bottle I would be very grateful.
I’ve done it using the end of one side of tweezers, but be careful.
I use that thingy on nail clippers that you’re supposed to use to clean under your nails (I think?) to pop out the ball. I just do it over the sink and have never had a problem.
Thanks for the suggestions! If I screw up the courage to give a go I’ll mention how it went…
Agree…dislike rollerballs…strongly. 😉
I would keep the rollerball upright for a few days to let gravity do its work in keeping the top of the bottle dry, then use the pad of your thumb to push up from the seam between the glass bottom and the rollerball housing. I’ve done a bunch of these and the housing is usually made of rubber or pliable plastic. Good luck!
Decided to give AA Ylang & Vanille a go on one arm and Meteorites on the other, probably my two sweetest perfumes. Ylang & Vanille is usually a bedtime scent and it wins as being the sweeter of the two.
In Molton Brown Ylang-Yang, fresh and spicy at first but the drydown of vanilla makes it resemble Guerlain AA Ylang-Vanille. I am pulling out my ylang perfumes, it’s a favourite note.
Happy belated Birthday Aurora!
??plus an orange?!?
Thank you so much, Lillyjo, love the added emojis?
Happy Belated !
Thank you so much ltsg!
I like it too, especially when the sweet ylang ylang has a kind of furniture-oil background note
That’s a good description of its woody aspect.
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you, Sistine!
I’m sorry I missed your birthday. Belated Scented Birthday wishes, Aurora! ???
Thank you, Jalapeno, I didn’t post yesterday, my birthday but Lillyjo remembered so you didn’t miss it. And delighted by your emojis ?
Tea of the day is coffee–Sumatra, extra strength and straight up! Made pancakes with blueberries, raspberries, and walnuts–an excellent way to start the day.
SOTD–Paris-Riviera, just because I wish I could take the train from Paris to Nice and just toot around the South of France for a month or two….well, in my mind that’s where I am.
Ordered a few samples from Aftelier–body oil, face oil and some scents….will let you know when they arrive!!
I’m right there on that TGV with you!
Love your breakfast! And your scent + vaca wish 😉
Oh, I love Sumatran coffee myself! And the pancakes sound divine! Can I please come for breakfast at your house tomorrow?
Sotd is Fille en Aiguilles,
This scent always makes me happy!
Yay, after a short and enjoyable heatwave last week, we are now enjoying a few rainy days ?️ ?
I loved the rain today. It helps with my hay fever and it smelled just wonderful outside.
I feel like I’m at the cocktail party all day because I’m wearing Dom Rosa today.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with smelling like a fizzy champagne with hint of rose and pink grapefruit.
Yum!
Wearing Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. I got this one at Goodwill at the beginning of the year, about $13 for 8ish ml left in a 30ml bottle.
My standoffish cat – the one who likes to do things on his own terms and is only an occasional lap sitter – just curled up on my lap while I “work” (technically procrastinate) at my desk! This makes my whole morning.
And I have enough coffee in my mug that i won’t have to stand up for another 15 minutes, which is about the length of time he sits.
Aww, that’s wonderful. I love it when a standoffish cat decides to cuddle. Unfortunately most of mine are constant seekers of attention and cuddles and want to occupy both my keyboard and my mousepad and mouse when I’m trying to work.
There’s nothing quite like getting chosen for cuddles by a cat that rarely goes for it!
All four cats we’ve adopted were described as “not lapcats” and 3 out of 4, with love and a tiny bit of encouragement, became furry burrs.
The one who didn’t was less standoffish than simply a giant endless bundle of energy – but when he settled in for 10-15 minutes of laptime it felt like winning the lottery!!!!
Congrats on your furry lottery win today ?
Super crazy, busy working day.
In VC&A Bois d’Iris
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
You smell good. Periodt.
Thank you! ?
AA Rosa Pop, a generous extra from the split meet (thanks!). I needed something uplifting because as I had suspected, the job that I applied for and that my boss had presented to me as “mine” if I wanted it did go to someone else. Have since found out that said boss apparently has a bit of a track record with such behavior. Time to recalibrate the rest of this summer!
That is rotten behaviour. I hope you find something better
That person is a stinker! I’m sorry you got your hopes up for nothing.
Oh, how awful! What a yucky boss!
Thanks for all the support! I love this forum 🙂
That sucks! Your boss really let you down.
And you smell lovely!
Wow, that bites!
Ugh! What a nasty person!
Boo, so sorry Eschmeling.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! They will be freezing their tales off as it has been so cold and then wet with hail and rain. The graveyard rabbits are fine as they all made warm homes beneath the cracked and broken concrete slabs thatbform the ‘bed’ part of each grave but the hill rabbits get flooded buroows. A nice ylang ylang video from IFF in Madagascar, from harvest, to distillation to Anne Flipo chatting. A touch of warmth! Wearing L’eau Moheli again, sunshine in a bottle.
Only the story-telling rabbits freeze their tales! The rest freeze their tails.
LOL!
Thanks for that link. I would love to visit Madagascar one day.
And now I am off on a daydream about the hill rabbits telling tales to the graveyard rabbits in the hope that they can survive another night by eking out their tales in their borrowed shelter–their soft home burrows above get beaten to pulp by the rain and hail.
It’s quite nice to see how nature has moved in and made a home and that life continues. I think that if I was buried I would be quite happy to have a family of rabbits living in and around my grave. The hill rabbits have it tough!
Winter has really struck here, time to break out the winter mega-coat! Rain is splattering against the window as I drink my tea.
In these conditions, my mind turns to Chambre Noir.
You have my sympathies, Gaynor — I do hate winter.
I’m wearing Lake from by Rosie Jane for the third or fourth day in a row. I just like it and I need something that I can quickly reach for and know I won’t be disappointed. My mental energy is low – my state’s COVID-19 numbers keep increasing drastically, applying for jobs in the middle of a pandemic is surreal, trying to organize our move is trying, and of course this is when the dog somehow managed to get fleas. At least I smell good!!!
Be safe and smell good.
Oy vey! ?
That’s a lot of stress sistine…you stay safe too!
Good afternoon! Did a 10k roundtrip walk this AM to give a friend half a boule of sourdough for some homegrown salad greens. The COVID barter economy at work!
Tried on a sample of Swan Princess from the Vagabond Prince this AM. Got a lovely powdery yawn from me. I am not a Swan Princess, more of a giant flying squirrel.
Was fighting an afternoon nap and downing my second coffee of the day didn’t help, so I just put on some St. Claire Song of Aubrac. POW, narcissus, I am feeling more energized now!!!
I really like enchanted forest from VP, and the bottle also looks so good.
Yes, Enchanted Forest is on my want-to-try list!
I’m wearing Agonist Isis which I applied lavishly because I really love it. Ylang-ylang features in it very prominently. I had a big adventure driving over to Talbot’s to do curbside pickup of a pair of new gingham pants. Not sure how they’ll look on me but they’re kind of cute and will make for a change (black & white squares). I put a somewhat cute picture on Instagram of my bottle of Isis in its surroundings among my various cat collectibles (none of which I bought–but cat items appear to be the easiest gift people can think of in my case!). (Not that I’m complaining, although I literally gave away a dozen pairs of cat socks last fall.)
Autocorrect wanted to change “curbside” to “curtsied”and I thought “curtsied pickup” was a quaint idea!
“Curtsied pickup” would make a good band name!
I really love curbside pickup! Among other things, fewer spur of the moment purchases.
Robin: Totally loving the Tokyo design studio. Found out it’s a European—Japanese collaboration and they seem to ship to German. Eyeing up some of their stuff ?
Sotd Mitsouko
Yes, Danish I think? Anyway, they have really wonderful stuff, much of which you can’t get in the US.
Keeping an eye out this afternoon/evening for thundershowers. It seems to be that time of year. ⚡?☔
SOTD = Rock Crystal EdP. Incense perfumes are my jam right now.
You must smell terrific, I love incense as well.
Thank you! Rock Crystal has landed on my “Wish I May, Wish I Might” list.
It rained around 5:30ish here and then got sunny again a little after 6.
Had some dark clouds in my area, but no rain.
Very late to chime in. I sprayed on some Chanel No. 5 body oil tonight; it’s a huge bottle so I should be using it up!
