It's Tuesday and Let It Go Day (criminy, as my grandmother used to say, where to start). Also United Nations Public Service Day, International Widows Day, and a few birthdays: Alan Turing, June Carter Cash, Frances McDormand. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in one of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz's new "isolation meditation experience" natural perfumes, Tea and Charcoal (and I'm overdue for a DSH new fragrance announcement, I will try to get to that today or tomorrow). I really like this one — it smells a bit like lapsang souchong, and as promised, it's soothing.
Reminder: on 6/26, wear a perfume by Une Nuit Nomade, Ulrich Lang, Vilhelm Parfumerie or Vero Profumo if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letters U or V.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: "Taking inspiration from the vast archive of artwork from Aynsley's over 240 year history, the pattern has been re-imagined with contemporary sensibilities. These Archive Rose Teacups and Saucers are timeless and classic perfect for any occasion." $78 for the set at Belleek.
Tea Marco Polo
SOTD Givenchy Neroli Originel
Oh, you smell wonderful! 🙂
Thanks you SToes
But wait…what awesome outfit do you have on today?!
I think my out fit doesn’t match my perfume..if I were wearing Shalimar it would be a match. This Givenchy is too elegant
Thrift store OOTD…
This skirt but in black (and not leather)
https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-us/shop/product/proenza-schouler/perforated-leather-skirt/349509?tab=1
with a white tea shirt.
Wow. What an outfit! You look fabulous!
Not on CP, but in a very pretty Baiser Vole by Cartier.
I don’t have anything for the CP
You smell wonderful. Baiser Vole is one of the few Cartier fragrances I adore
Same. I especially like the EDT.
Thank you. It is my favorite lily scent and my only Cartier.
I may have one scent for Friday (UNN Fleur des Fleurs), but I need to try it first to see if I like it.
Eau de toilette, Glannys, or eau de parfum? I enjoy both but went with edt for its effervescence.
Eau de Parfum. I did not try the edt because I fell in love with the edp at the first sniff. Now I am curious about the edt though.
In Hiram Green Vivacious, thanks to Hajusuuri’s splitmeet.
Very, very pretty! It reminds me in some way of Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. I get lots of carnation and some violet. No iris. Spicy and green. Very interesting scent and worth trying.
Sounds interesting, i may need to order a sample! But i still havent tried lustre properly ?
I have not tried Lustre at all. Vivacious caught my attention because it has many notes I love. It didn’t disappoint.
I sat on my hand during the entire splitmeet. That was the one split that had me gritting my teeth! ?
Nancy, I can send you a sample. It lasts long on my skin. Let me know. ?
Oh my goodness, thanks! I’ll drop you a line. Maybe I have something I can swap with you.
Opposite of me where I get all iris and little carnation! Glad you’re enjoying it.
Lucky you! As an iris lover I was expecting the iris to be noticeable. Still pretty, though.
Interesting! Thanks for your thoughts on Vivacious!
?
I wore it yesterday as well, sadly my husband hated it, said it smelled like dead fish. (!)
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing about 10 sprays of Atelier Pomelo Paradis to cut thru the humidity! It’s about to rain buckets today…..
You smell lovely! It’s rained buckets here over the past two days too.
Stay dry!
Yay for double digit sprays! 🙂
VCA California Reverie. It rained off and on all day again yesterday which was fine by me because I was at work. It’s cooled off a bit and the sun is back out. Looks like it’s going to be a lovely day.
We’ll be having carnitas tonight for taco tuesday.?
Also! I ordered a small decant of Chanel’s new fragrance Le Lion yesterday off eBay. It should be here by the end of the week. I’m really looking forward to trying it, those notes sound right up my alley.
Ooh.. report back!
I will!?
I agree…please report back. So curious about that one!
Me too! That’s why I couldn’t pass up getting a sneak peek.?
ohhh so exciting!
I know! How boring is my life that this is the most exciting thing I have going on right now, lol.
Perfume is often a source of joy in my life. I don’t think that makes us boring. 🙂
Taco Tuesday + Chanel scent sampling = you’re doing things right. 😉
We are also doing Mexican for dinner tonight
Tacos are pretty standard for us on Tuesdays. We usually alternate between beef and chicken because carnitas take a little more planning and work, but they are the clear favorite in our house.
What are you having?
We’re having sheet pan pizza for taco Tuesday! ?
I’m a bit out of the swing of things.
That sounds delicious! Homemade crust??
This reminds me … when people were panic buying at the beginning of the pandemic, the only pizza crust left were the ones made with cauliflower. Same with frozen veggies.
In an effort to get more veggies in my diet, I remember trying to make a cauliflower pizza crust from scratch. I made such a mess I was digging cauliflower bits out from under cabinets for weeks afterward. Not doing that again, too much work! 😀
The store-bought crusts aren’t bad. I prefer using a socca bread from garbanzo bean flour, more protein and fiber. It’s fast and easy to boot.
Yes ma’am! Second time with this recipe. David Lebovitz never fails me!
Tacos sound wonderful. I’m attempting a juice fast today but alas, I can’t stop thinking about burritos LOL!
Chiming in to say that Angela’s pandemic piece is brilliant. The paragraph “Who would steal a 35 year old pick up?” and what follows is the funniest piece I’d read in a couple of years. My husband (who took leave to rest and is hanging around the house) agrees wholeheartedly.
Commando so far, but worked in the garden and will put on something rosy post shower. Perhaps La Fille de Berlin or PR La Nuit.
I still can’t believe somebody stole her truck. It’s just mean to steal somebody’s old truck. Humpf.
Oh no, someone stole Angie’s truck?!
it is mean! my dad drove an old Ford truck for decades, and it was repeatedly broken into with unsuccessful attempts to drive it away.
Oddly, several times a year Dad would find a note on his windshield, or even someone knocking at the front door, offering to buy the old heap. Weird.
Not weird among hot rodders and people who customize old cars! Granted it is definitely a niche market, though. ?
I had a 1980 300 TD Mercedes diesel, it couldn’t get broken into and no one knew how to hot wire it!
I’d get notes all the time asking to purchase it. I donated it to the Humane Society and cried when it was driven out of our drive way. Such a great old car.
agree! Angela’s story was beautifully told, I was intrigued from beginning to end, and that picture of the car at the top of the article was brilliant. 😉
I sent the truck part to a friend. Horrible for Angela, but it makes a great story.
Sotd is Shaal Nur.
I like it a lot!!! Turns out it also works for me in warm weather.
25 C / 77 F today
It looks like I refound an old love of mine. I am now back to riding horses almost weekly. Mostly outdoors. I partly ‘blame’ Covid19. This sounds silly but i guess lockdown made me realise I really need to do more of the things I really really love. Luckily I still have a job, cause darn this is an expensive pastime. No perfume purchases for me this month.
Though I may need a fb of Shaal nur one time. ?
Jiji, you smell fantastic. It’s a pretty bottle too!
Glad you’re doing something you love!
good for you! I rode for many years as a child and adult then gave it up when life got busy. For the past 7 years I’ve lived five minutes from a stable, maybe it’s time. 😉
Maybe it is. ?
Most stables offer trial lessons. At least thats how it works here in the Netherlands.
And if you have enough experience and feel confident they will let you join their outdoor rides.
Philosykos (or is it Phylosikos? … i never know. Same with Dyptique and Diptyque).
Oldie but goodie (mine is still in the big square bottle)
Diptyque Philosykos 🙂
There was a square bottle? Off to google. 🙂
I had to practice on the Diptyque and Philosykos as well ?
I have a bottle (edt) but its one of my least worn perfumes right now ?
I still like the smell of it but not on myself, it seems….
I’m wearing Comptoir Sud Pacifique Pomelo Fizz for the first time, and unfortunately, the citrus notes are being wholly overtaken by the white flowers and musk. Yuck! It may be a scrubber.
I sprayed on Arquiste L’Etrog over the Pomelo Fizz, which had devolved almost immediately to a basic musk. We’ll see what happens.
Ugh. I was curious about that one too.
Rozy edp for my first day back to work. Had my first restaurant dinner date with my husband in 3 months-had house made pasta under a grape arbor while being close to the fountain in the courtyard . So nice to be getting back to a more normal life
Your dinner out sounds divine! Congrats on getting back to work.
Sounds wonderful!
Glad you had a good time, dining out is a luxury now
Let it go day? Lol. Ok (insert big eye roll)
I guess there are different ways one could apply this including pitching stuff I really no longer need in my apt. Hmm.
I’m trying out Hiram Green’s new Vivacious which is very pretty. It’s got that HG dry down, not sure I’m the one to describe it but it’s there. More iris than violet on my skin. And my husband likes it (shocker!) which is a big plus 😉
Oh yay, looking forward to that one.
That’s a shocker! I find it amusing that he was against Golden Vanilla ?
Amusing indeed although vanilla is not a note he likes so makes sense.
And I may be pitching stuff Thursday. It is too hot and humid to walk outside and I can at least do something productive in its place. I’ve planted a seed in my head that if the items are not going to be acceptable for donating (which I just did to the Lupus Foundation) and I won’t be using them, I need to Let It Go!
I like your new picture!
Thanks! My husband really loves detail on NYC buildings. This is from a building in the 80s on the UWS.
Wow. Kudos that husband liked it!
My husband hated Vivacious and asked me never to wear it again. :-0
Haha — I can relate! My husband hides the fragrances he hates with a passion.
Let it go day…I should consider making every day let it go day, and let go of the things I cannot control!
Tea of the morning = Numi aged earl grey mixed with some big red robe oolong from the Cultured Cup.
Scent of the morning/Target run = VC&A Gardenia Petale. It’s not exploding on my skin yet, but I still feel like I’m wearing someone else’s perfume.
Stay safe out there, dear ones!
That’s what the buddha head on my shelf says.
Good luck at Target!
LOL! I’m laughing at the idea that the Buddha head on your shelf is lecturing you about acceptance. ?
I have buddhas all over my house lecturing me on various matters. My favorite at the moment is the buddha-head plant pot on the kitchen windowsill, with the half dead aloe plant…he is lecturing me on impermanence and attachment 😉
stay safe!
Hope that your Tar-zhay run went well!
Wearing Prada Infusion d’Homme today.
Powdery but also summery iris <3
House twins, TWIN! I smell juicy in Prada Infusion Mandarine!
I almost reached for Mandarine this morning!
You smell super good!
Thank you.
mmmm, that is a wonderful scent. 🙂
I know, I know. No need to say it twice to me 🙂
Woke up in vintage BaG and had a counselor’s appointment. I am looking at deleting a few social media accounts. It seems like you can’t say anything without people jumping all over you and name calling. I think different view points are awesome, even if I don’t agree with them. Wearing Zagorsk today.
I stopped posting on Instagram temporarily due to the hypocrisy I see there. On Twitter, I just don’t engage because there are too many irrational unknowns. I know silence is looked upon as not an appropriate response but I say you do you.
I wondered why you were pausing your account. I understand, but I miss seeing your lovely perfume bottles and choices of the day.
Thanks, calypso. I will be back!
I hear you, Dawn! I am an opinionated person, and I wish I could make sense of folks who see any disagreement and as a threat or a *conflict.* Where’s the safe place where you just explore each other’s differing points of view? I’ve been practicing using phrases like, “it seems to me that. . .” or “I wonder about. . .” because it puts people less on edge. But it grates my nerves that I need to hedge every statement that way.
Good for you culling your social media to reduce the stress of it.
I am too. I am all for debate but as soon as people call you a racist, ignorant, and other insults, I take issue. Attacking someone and making fun of them because they don’t read the same news stuff you do isn’t right either.
I am open to the probability that I am deeply ignorant about all sorts of things. But name-calling doesn’t help people learn new things. It’s hard with issues that feel very personal, and there’s so much going in the world right now that feels very personal. I am at as much risk as anyone to jump to conclusions. But at the end of the day, I really do want to understand other people and their views of the world, and to explore my own understandings better, too.
The only way i can handle social media is by following nice people who post quality content (and those are not always people i know in real life haha)
and not posting anything remotely political myself.
I enjoy Twitter for the scientists, journalists, historians and cat pics.
I mostly use Instagram to follow NSTers, museums and a handful of friends.
I still have a Facebook account but I hardly check in (its headache inducing).
Then there is LinkedIn, that is my digital adressbook for business contacts haha.
I make an effort not to respond or post anything political. I didn’t agree with something someone posted and said so. Got called racist and ignorant. It makes me angry when people jump on a bandwagon and turn something good into something bad. Changes happen in small ways and small acts, not movements. It’s going to be a cull of people on Facebook.
It turns into mob mentality.
That it does.
Oh please oh please can NST not be a place where white people go to complain about being called racist? We have to do better.
Regina, I do not know the color of any of the people posting above.
Nothing Dawn said was outside of the comment policy, because she was not specific about her comments or even the topic of the discussion on FB that she is complaining about. If you don’t like her comments you can just not answer them.
Also, meant to say, this portion of this thread is closed. Anybody who wants to complain is free to email me. (Really! I don’t mind at all. Just don’t want to debate this here.)
Re-reading this, sorry Dawn, “Changes happen in small ways and small acts, not movements. ” is actually very political.
I am really sorry, I understand you started off with just a general complaint about uncivil behavior on FB. But this has maybe gone too far…
Social media is made to evoke quick responses.
Sadly most people just type quickly and often dont take the time to think.
Sometimes no comment is the best comment. ?
A lot of issues are complicated and nuanced and not suitable for online chit chat with strangers.
I am about to unfollow 2 people because they are now only posting or reposting political stuff. I also had to mute someone because I frankly do not want to see individual retweets of every.single.flower.picture (I don’t think I’ll have the same issue with cats and dogs).
Ha, i hear you!
And then there is this ‘suddenly lazy social media activism’-phenomenon that irks me.
I know someone who never posts about BLM or anything related to race/racism issues, but all of a sudden he posts 1 pic about it…. and 5 minutes later he is back to his usual subjects not mentioning racism ever again.
Maybe I don’t get it, but what is the use of that? ?
It was not even original content but a lazy repost. ?
Closing this bit of thread too. Sorry Jiji, but I cannot imagine we all want to debate ideological purity vis a vis BLM — just not a good idea.
And to clarify re: the 2 people – I originally followed them for a different reason and they basically turned one note all day everyday.
I am not kidding when I say this happened to my entire Twitter thread. I used to read the group I follow every day for perfume news…they were 99% perfume people. After 2016, the whole thread turned into 50-75% politics. Now I rarely read on Twitter, can’t take the stress.
I do recommend RoomRater on Twitter. He rates Skype and Zoom rooms and though he does utter political comments, he’s awfully funny!
Oh, thank you, that’s very kind and hope it will help somebody, but I was really only spending time on twitter to get perfume news! I don’t miss it, and really by now I no longer invest the time in following perfume news the way I used to.
Not closing this whole thread, but please let’s keep it entirely free of value judgements.
i totally forgot to say you smell awesome. I love Zagorsk. ?
Well, I don’t seem to have any “U” or “V” scents in my arsenal, but I do have a teacup and saucer that are very similar to the ones at the lower right in today’s photo. Mine aren’t Belleek, though – it appears they are Royal Albert “Peppermint Damask”. They were a gift, and not really my style, but very pretty nonetheless. SOTD is Dior Escale a Portofino.
(Those cups are by Aynsley, just to be clear.)
(In other words Belleek is just the store.)
Oh, I see – thanks! Hadn’t heard of Aynsley before, but should have been able to figure that out from the description. I blame insufficient coffee. 🙂
No worries, I just didn’t want someone off searching for Belleek china!
I love the cups too. If I were to buy them, which I won’t be, I would mix the two colors, because the pale blue and yellow look so nice together.
Commando at the moment. Never did find my Naja decant yesterday, which is a bummer. I think I’ll be going for something simple and easy today, like Vetiver Tonka.
Luckyscent has finally agreed my package is lost. Yesterday, in an email, they “should have an official conclusion any day now. We do need to wait for that, as it’s what allows us to file an insurance claim on the original package.” Ugh. That’s my response to that. Not great customer service. Who knows when I’ll actually get the perfume.
Here’s an excellent graphic, a thing that I usually abhor, to effectively show how fast Covid 19 is is spreading and killing. I think it’s safe to say if you’re not socially distancing and wearing a mask when you are not distancing, you’re killing people. So horrified by how this is being handled in the US. Really, makes me cry for all the people who have suffered and died, and continue to die, unnecessarily. A complete disgrace.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvkH1PJO4O/?igshid=1pje0fws1u1si
Phooey I’m having to wait re: lost package.
On the continuing global death toll, there’s also a lot to be said about people’s behavior regardless of the rules or lack thereof from all forms of governance. I can’t control what others do and don’t do. I cringe whenever I see useless mask-wearing and people who insist on talking thisclose (happened to me when I was waiting in line and this woman said excuse me and I can feel her breath in the back of my neck – oh YUCK!)
That graphic…?
I get that lots of countries were not prepared for this pandemic, including my own country (even though they were warned decades ago).
But some governments somehow decided not to do the most and the best to ‘flatten the curve’. Its inhumane. ?
I ended up in Kyoto. Go figure. ??♀️
Kyoto is perfect for today, I’d like to go there perfume-wise and geographically for some zen time.
I love Kyoto, it’s so beautiful but wound up purchasing a bottle of Avignon instead.
I’d love to see Shiseido release another incense perfume but I’m afraid it’d be something either price aspirational or overly sweet.
But a girl can dream, can’t they??
That is an amazing graphic!!
Thank you.
Good Luck with your Perfumed Package!
I saw that graphic yesterday for the first time and it sent chills down my spine.
Wow. That animation was incredibly sobering.
My first name starts with V, so I wear that around all the time.
I used to wear Vivre, back in the 80s.
Post shower I think some Wazammmmmmmmmmmba.
Ha, double points for that then.
The only V scent I have is Vol de Nuit, much too heavy for a summer day so I’m in a light orange blossom scent I bought in Seville. I made myself a iced matcha for breakfast and enjoyed it so much I may have another this afternoon!
But my big excitement is I’m getting my hair cut and colored later today. 3 full months is taxing my patience. I was almost forced to break out the barrettes and the turban.
That IS exciting! Enjoy your new ‘do!
Enjoy your hair appointment!
turbans are in style..I use a scarf to make one once in awhile..
Is your scent by chance Agua de Sevila (sp?)? I bought some there and LOVE it. You may be inspiring me to get my bottle out!
Sampling Essential Parfums Divine Vanille today…getting booze, smoke, wood, herbs and vanilla so far.
Trying to mentally get out of my pity party which I prefer to think of as more of a sulky soiree… 😉
you can’t sulk and wear vanilla at the same time 😉
I’m your sulky soiree twin today. ☹️
Ha! Sulky soirée, I like that. Reminds me of Radiohead’s Sulk.
Ha! “sulky soiree”…I’m going to have to steal that one!
My grandma used to say “criminy,” too — must be a generational utterance! I’m in Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, one of the few vanillas that doesn’t give me a headache. I’m missing Louisiana at the moment, so wanted something with a cypress note for comfort.
beautiful! I adore Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, I must wear it again soon. 🙂
Yay! Did she say Jiminy Cricket too? My grandmother had all sorts of substitutions for swearing.
“Criminy” was her only psedo-swear-word, and it took a lot to get her to use it — she was so TREMENDOUSLY mild mannered!
Supposed to get hot today, so I decided to go with Au Dela for my SOTD.
Mr. Spicebomb and I went downtown with our cameras yesterday afternoon and tried to photograph the makeshift memorials and graphitti that’s sprouted up around the Justice Center and neighboring businesses. The Apple Store, which is an entire block in length, and has (now boarded up) two-story glass windows, has been completely transformed by street art, flowers, and other artifacts. It’s quite a sight.
Still feels weird to be downtown during the daylight and have the streets mostly empty, but at least that way we were able to keep our distance from any folks who were there.
Did you wear or at least bring a mask in the event you encounter other people?
I have a mask that I put on when we passed other people. However, I have PTSD, and I find wearing a mask triggering. I begin to hyperventilate almost immediately, and I can only go about 10 minutes before I start to feel faint. (When all this started, I almost blacked out at the grocery store before I figured out what was going on.) So, although it isn’t ideal, I have settled on putting it on/taking it off constantly. More dangerous for me, since I’m touching my face more often, but it feels rude to just go maskless entirely.
One of my friends wore a face shield while getting her hair cut. I don’t know much more than that, but perhaps a shield would be less triggering.
Thank you. I’ve wondered that as well. Any clue how she got it? It seems like the sort of thing that might be hiding in the same warehouse as all the yeast, dry beans and toilet paper. . .
Well, your comment sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole (not the fun, perfumista kind). I now have a box of face shields hypothetically on their way to me. Guessing it will take a few weeks. Found a type that clips to my glasses, which sounds more comfortable than the headband kind for summer and since I have bangs I don’t want to get all squished (these things matter!). Thanks for the nudge!
I am sorry to hear you about your PTSD and kts impact.
Mask wearing in common spaces in the office will be compulsory, in addition to daily (self) health checks. Employees were informed that if they have a condition that would make it dangerous to wear a mask, they can request accommodation through our disability management group. I don’t know what the burden of proof is (or even if there is one or a suggestion that the request can be randomly audited) but once approved, the manager will be told about the approved accommodation (but not the reason why) and it is up to the employees if they want to disclose why. The manager has a script.
Yes, I think there will come a time when I will be required to wear a face covering for work, too. It’s unclear when schools will reopen, but it seems likely we all will be covered up at some point. I would like to find a way to comply–keep myself and others safer. Trauma works on its own schedule, though!
My PSA for today: Penhaligon’s Summer sale is on for anyone interested (UK): https://www.penhaligons.com/uk/en/categories/summer-sale/shop-all
Wearing L’Eau d’Ambre Extreme by L’Artisan today.
? thank you and beautiful choice of perfume, I can imagine it blooming in the warm weather.
CDG Kyoto again, because it is so good. No CP points.
I’m sure someone has already mentioned this, because I think it’s more than a month old, but the architecture(ish) podcast 99% Invisible has a miniseries on the things we wear called Articles of Interest. There’s an episode on perfume! I’ve only just started listening to it, but it’s great. (The entire series is great! The entirety of 99PI is great!) I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something to listen to 🙂
Kyoto is wonderful, just wished it lasted a little longer on my skin. Having dry skin sucks.
I tried using body oil just out of the shower, and it helped immensely. Dry skin is such a bummer.
Eeeeeeee you guys she interviewed Antonia at Tigerlily 🙂 They avoid talking about the names of perfumes or perfumers or companies, but seasoned perfumistas like us can guess a lot of them 🙂 Zoologist Bat and Hermes Twilly both make appearances in the podcast, for example.
ooh I love 99pi, I’m out of date but will dig for this one!
Completely random perfume sighting on tv— the newest season of Queer Eye. The young man with the dreads– (Ep. 4, The North Philadelphia Story) has a 30 ml bottle of ELDO on his dresser, and something else. I was with my family and no one would let me rewind… Let me know if anyone catches what perfumes he has!
That’s so fun! I love perfume sightings on TV/in movies.
I haven’t watched that episode yet, it’s next! So I’ll watch out for the perfume. I love Queer Eye, I was so happy when the new season launched. I love how kind the Fab Five are to the participants. We need more kindness, and fabulousness.
Hi all, my SOTD is Catalyst perfume, by Halston. I forget what a big lush floral this beauty is. 🙂
Oh my gosh, you smell fantastic! I wore it when it first came out. I was dating a guy at the time who told me I smelled like candy, lol. I remember thinking what the heck is he smelling? Since it smells nothing like that. I’m tempted sometimes to get the current version. Have you smelled it?
Good question! No, I haven’t smelled the current version, my bottle is 25-years old (give or take), and syrupy thick and dark brown.
I think when I use all of my perfumes, I won’t replace many of them. The pre-reformulation versions are just too good.
Jour d’Hermes for a hot day. Such a pretty one. I’m a sucker for a lot of Hermes scents and would love a bottle of this.
You smell fabulous!
yes to Hermes! pour on the Jour 😉 you smell beautiful.
You smell lovely! I ran into someone a while back who had the body oil, but it was purchased on a cruise, so who knows if it was released specifically for the overseas market? But it smelled fantastic on her.
I purchased the body cream in Jour d’Hermes, it’s gorgeous, and highly scented.
sometimes you can find a bottle basically for free on discounter sights
If you decide to buy, do try the Elixir first! I like Jour but liked Jour Elixir even more.
Oh really? That’s good to know! I think the Jour d’ Hermes is my favorite of the new releases so far. A few were nice at first sniff/spritz but didn’t make it to the buying a decant phase. I try to be very methodical in buying perfume, if it isn’t a ‘love’ after the first decant, it’s a ‘no buy’ with rare exceptions.
I’m wearing Santal Exotique this morning, from The Exotic Island Perfumer. I have not heard anything about him since the hurricane hit Puerto Rico in 2017? I hope he is okay, I love this perfume.
Finally lost my glasses yesterday, I think. Over the past couple of months, twice people have picked them up and returned them to me after they fell on the ground. I went to Costco yesterday and didn’t have them when I got home. I have a backup pair but the other ones were lighter on my face. Hurrying to get my walk in before the temps hit 90F.
Yesterday, I wore Orquidea Absoluta, which is a beauty, also from The Exotic Island Perfumer.
Juan Perez has a new line of products called Exotic Island Aromatics. He sells candles, soaps and other similar items. I am not sure if he is selling online, but he seems to be pretty active in Puerto Rico, trying to recover from the hurricane. I don’t have FB, but he has a page there.
Thanks so much!
My family thinks I am nuts, but I have six pairs of reading glasses strategically stashed about the house so that I can always find them. Only recently had an issue. I somehow managed to order the exact same frames twice, but only one has blue light protection, and I have no idea which one it is.
My glasses have progressive lenses, so no reading glasses for me, yet. However, I do the same thing with chapsticks. I have a tube in every purse, every coat, in my car, in my desk (maybe two, in case I don’t see one of them right away). I got so I was always searching for my tube, and then I realized, silly me, I could afford to have more than one in my life! It felt like such a luxury the first time I stocked up.
So my husband goes to restaurants (or, used to go to restaurants), can’t read the menu because of the dim light, asks if they have reading glasses, they produce them, he invariably forgets to give them back and takes them home. So he likewise has them stashed all over the house, but in his case they are all stolen.
(Although is it like ties, they have them because somebody else left them there?)
I’ve never had the nerve to ask for glasses at a restaurant, but I have winged it a few times ordering.
Fragonard Fleur d’Oranger, bottle almost finished. I love it but perhaps will not replace at once, so many perfumes to wear.
and so little time! 😉
It’s so true! So much to wear. This is why I don’t care too much about longevity.
I agree, 4h is usually enough. But I also like perfumes with a lot of development which surprise me in the evening.
SotD = Malin+Goetz Dark Rum from a sample.
Shoutout to Smallflower, their samples are top notch.
Ha ha, I was expecting booze this morning. Surprise surprise, I got pure barbershop. Dark Rum is a take on Bay Rum aftershave I guess.
As it breathes and wafts I’m getting plummy leather that smells rather deliciouis, luxe and smooth. Not sure yet, but I think I like it, which is unusual for me. I have a hard time with leather notes, they can be sharp and chemical on my skin.
Let it go still makes me think of Frozen. Gah, that song is burned into my brain, but I don’t really mind. It’s a happy reminder of simpler times.
And it’s time to stop being lazy and just do something already. I watched Trumbo last night and it made me melancholy. People can be mean.
I have parents practically begging me to re-start their kids on private piano lessons this summer. There are fewer enrichment activities available so I understand their motivation. But I don’t see how we can do it and maintain social distancing. My students are young, so Zoom lessons aren’t workable.
I should just go exercise, that always makes me feel better. 🙂 Chloe day 15, Adriene day 26!
Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday. You smell like heaven.
Exercise always makes me feel better, too! Time to go talk myself into it. I know I’ll be glad once I’ve been at it for 15 minutes or so. 🙂
Is “Adriene” as in “Yoga with Adriene?” I hear her dog really steals the show.
agree, exercise is good medicine, and yes 🙂 I’m doing Adriene’s 30 days of yoga series, the one that is about 5 years old. I always enjoy her. She did a new 30 day series so I’ll move on to that one next.
I’ve been trying to avoid that particular earworm for a while now!
In Mohur extrait from an extremely generous NSTer… it is lovely! I’ve also just “topped up” with, aka applied to crook in right arm, some Mohur edp. What I like about the edp is the saffron (albeit, I did double check and note that saffron is not listed in the notes–but the nose smells what it smells!) is more prominent. The extrait is smoother. I love them both!
It is seriously beautiful! I prefer the extrait myself.
I was wearing Sel Marin for a virtual day at the beach, because this is the only beach I will visit this year.
The boyfriend will be out of hospital in two days, when the last tests are fine. He seems to be much better now, so I hope it will work out.
That is such great news.
Really happy to hear this news!
That’s great news! I hope the boyfriend has no lasting effects and is 100% OK!
Wonderful! Fingers crossed for him and you.
Glad to hear your bf is better and coming home soon!
Hove Parfumeur Rue Royale body oil layered with Hove Elan d’Orange edt.
Looked them both up, that sounds like a great combo!
More hot & humid weather today. At least I got the recyclables out this morning before it got really gross. ?
SOTD = back in Rock Crystal EdP.
I put 2 envelopes at the lip of my mailbox at 8:30 this morning and the heat and humidity were already oppressive ?
I’ve been putting off a trip to the grocery store. Nothing urgent on that list, thankfully.
I have been waiting ages for a low humidity day to finish painting my back door…fingers crossed, tomorrow might be ok?
I think you might get a break either tomorrow or Thursday. Hopefully the weather guys and gals are right about that!
Cool and low humidity here today, so it probably is heading your way.
No CP points for me but I smell good anyway. SOTD is Balle de Match. A very long and tiring day. Balle de Match is a winner though.
Ah, yes you do! Hope it is a relaxing evening.
My family is trailing cows to mountain pasture over the next couple days, so I wore LADDM which resembles in some way the smell of sagebrush, cedar trees, saddles, cows and horses and hot dust that is the olfactory trace of moving cows in Wyoming when it is hot. I see from the pics posted on FB that it is not as dusty as some years, and there are lots of flowers once they get up to 7000 feet. But I am here and not there so here we are. I wore my cute linen tunic printed with Tang horses in honor of the day. 🙂
How cool that you can follow their progress on FB! I knew FB was good for something 😉
Plus, your tunic sounds wonderful.
Swiss laddm is a perfect match for your image of moving cows to mountain pasture. 🙂
It’s funny that I often enjoy posts on instagram from aswissshepherdswife which is a beautiful source of cows and mountains and good things from Switzerland.
That’s so cool!
Broke my phone. Really hoping my new one arrives by Thursday, and I haven’t lost everything. ????
Not the end of the world! I smell good!
My lotion is a delicious coconut-lime ish butter. Minus BBW Coconut Lime Verbena, any other coconut-lime recommendations?
Thanks!!!
Coconut lime verbena smells great! Sorry I don’t have any recommendations but I think the YouTube perfume people say Creed Virgin Island Water is coconut lime. I’ve never smelled it though.
Thanks for the rec., I do love Coconut Lime Verbena. I can’t find it and I really like this butter. There’s a small solid perfume that’s perfect with this, but I love spritzing!
Thanks for the Creed, I just checked and Luckyscent has it!
Not sure what you’re currently wearing but Tree Hut makes a Coconut Lime body butter…which I sniffed several years back I think…
I’m wearing Old Whaling company’s Coconut Milk body butter. Their stuff is so moisturizing and scented strongly. I can’t rave about them enough.
I’ll check the Tree Hut. A perfume to complement or a body splash or spray would be wonderful.
Thank you !
Beach Walk! Wish it were real life, but no…my walk just consisted of the hot mile concrete walk to church and then same back – sandwich making day. Fewer folks there so I was compelled to hit a personal best in #s.
And…I listened to an Audible book. The one Deva mentioned sometime back about Powell’s trip down the Colorado. Enjoying it. I’ve never really done the book listening much. I could see doing this when I knit.
Got home and had a peach and apple hard cider that was delicious. Will have to get more of that.
Nice day, Lizzieb! Impressive walk in the heat. It calmed down to almost normal with a cool breeze by the beach here. Fog rolling in, dark clouds above.
Woohoo, finally quiet deck time!
Sotd was OJ Champaca. Thanks to a generous Nster. What a great perfume!
So Robin, I was listening one of the greatest songs ever… Stones Sympathy for the Devil, and had some thoughts about great songs. Since Bob Dylan has his fair share, thought I would get your opinion.
First, do you agree that there really hasn’t been songs that have captured this millennium that will stand the test of time? And second, do you think that generation x will be the last to actually “know” or care about
the great songs from the sixties/seventies era?
I know there is alot of room for debate on what great is, but I think you know what I mean.
I don’t listen to much new music really, other than new music by artists I was listening to years ago — I am the last person who would know if “songs that have captured this millennium that will stand the test of time” — but hard to believe there aren’t! Seems like most of the creativity these days is in hip hop, but I don’t know zip about hip hop. When my son is listening to hip hop, I feel like my mother must have felt when I was cranking the volume on Elvis Costello.
But I do think old music (60s/70s) will last longer than that. I listen to a lot of 30s/40s music myself (blues & jazz & standards) and my son listens to Mozart…good music lasts!
My Dad’s line was, “you like that better than music?”
My music-nerdy students have the most amazing and diverse music tastes! They are growing up in an era when they can literally find anything they want and explore it. When I wanted to listen to something other than the top 40, I had to dig through my dad’s LPs or some smelly antique or record store. My students just have to go to youtube.
I don’t have any fragrances listed for the community project, but I have several “Un Jardin” fragrances starting with U. Do those count, at least in part, lol?
