Happy Almost-Friday, and happy 78th to Paul McCartney. It’s also Waterloo Day (watch that earworm!!) and International Sushi Day and Autistic Pride Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
The destination: Greece. The weather: hot and sunny. The scent: Diptyque Philosykos.
Reminder: on 6/19, we're doing Fantasy Vacation Friday...pick a destination and wear the scent that takes you there. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: I'm featuring paintings by Giovanna Garzoni this week; I became interested in her art after Kevin sent me the article The Baroque Artist Who Captured the World in Her Still Lifes. Shown above is detail from Piatto di Fichi, c. 1622, via Wikimedia Commons, public domain.
I’m still in SL Vetiver Oriental.
Had a front row view to the turkey crew trying to bust a buddy out of jail this morning. Who knew turkey feathers were so beautiful? Amazing patterns and such a lovely sheen. ?

Aww!
Sipping Rose D’Himalaya
Mr L taking the morning off of work this morning so I can finish my Italian homework. He is currently sleeping on my son’s bed. This is my current situation..
I finished the 3rd Ferrante book last night..wow wow wow
On to the 4th one…
oh my SOTD
Camelia by Aqua di Parma, at in my mind I am at Tuscany’s exquisite camellia festival above Lucca. https://images.app.goo.gl/Z6mXP2YNgBPSPFwZA
Also while I am on this fantasy trip, I am speaking fluent Italian, traveling solo, and perhaps a bello ragazzo will be so attracted to my perfume he will ask me to be his amante and we will eat gelato nonstop. Finito
Nice Fantasy! Beats turkeys busting their buddy out of jail! ?
Italian gelato. Oh.
non stop
I read all of those two years ago before leaving for my 19 day trip to Sicily and Italy. When I finished the fourth one, I was sad because I hated for them to end. However, the second night of my return to the USA after my trip, the series was on TV. I cannot remember what chanel…it may have been Amazon through Italian Rai TV. However, several months back this year (right before COVID-19 made its appearance), the series was on HBO. I must say that the series was true to the books, plus the actors were perfect for the parts, and it was all in Italian.
I was really sad when they ended too. I think she should go back and do a sequel on the next generation.
I will prepare my self to mourn the end then..
The Ferrante books are on my list for this fall. Looking forward to reading them.
FYI it took me about 50+ pages in My Brilliant Friend to get into it…it was not love at first read.
Okay, thanks. I’ll try to stick with it.
In the weird, but so enjoyable Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate.
I remember when I first started lurking on the Makeupalley fragrance board, Yerbamate was all the rage 🙂 your description is perfect.
It is an interesting green, powdery, aromatic scent. I have not smelled anything similar before. Quite good!
Ha yes. That and POTL and all things Serge Lutens are what I remember.
Weird but enjoyable is one of my favorite categories LOL
Worth trying it then! ?
Wearing L’Ame Perdue for no particular holiday at all. It’s a wonderful fragrance and I had not worn it in a while.
Any holiday will do 🙂
Still in Givenchy III right now. Paying those pesky bills and budgeting for the next few weeks. Good news is that I am going to have a little more time off when my parents go out of town in a week in a half. That will be great for the dogs. I am thinking of wearing Diorling this afternoon.
Paying bills is possibly my least favorite chore. Good for you for getting it done.
I’m in Ginger Piccante today, since I needed the uplift it gives me. I had a horrible sinus migraine yesterday, and had to leave work. Yuck!
Oh how awful! Hope today is better.
Ugh, so sorry. My daughter is a sufferer. Hope it passes quickly for you.
Feel better soon! You smell great!
Hope you feel better today…I will join you in some Ginger Piccante.
Oh, I got those off an on over a few years. They made me sick as a dog and very woozy. I hope yours dissipates quickly.
Triplets! And I’ve been getting more and more sinus headaches this year. Extra allergies, or stress? Hmmmm.
Ouch! I hope you are feeling better today.
Testing Amouage Love Mimosa today. It’s lovely. If I ever find a good deal on a bottle I’ll pounce. I smell mimosa and ylang ylang.
How’s the pupster doing?
She’s all better thanks!
Yay!!
Love Mimosa is the last perfume I bought 🙂
Woo hoo ???
Oooh. Having just sampled Zoologist Bee yesterday and finding it quite pleasant being surrounded by honey and mimosa I’ll need to add this to a try-list! I love ylang-ylang so that plus mimosa also sounds worth getting my nose on.
I got my sample at Etiket.
I really like it too!
Go Ask Alice again. Possible destination an all day festival, like Lollapalooza or an Eric Clapton Crossroads festival, when I was young enough to enjoy the crowd and heat and all day beer drinking. Now I watch a Crossroads DVD in my air conditioned house and fall asleep before it’s over. Seems like a natural progression 🙂
snort.
?
Oh, that sounds like the hubby and I, we enjoyed many a Lollapalooza in our day.
Now we rarely see the other side of 10pm, my how times have changed.
Fico di Amalfi today as I imagine myself walking into an empty gym, no one already camped under the squat rack or bench press apparatus, with Beyonce playng loud and proud over the sound system. In my fantasy, the gym stays blissfully empty so I can do my thing without an audience, at whatever pace feels right to me in the moment so there’s no pressure.
Sigh. I might be going to far with this one–I’m feeling some no-gym ennui for sure.
I miss my YMCA quite badly. Won’t go even when they open, but wish I could.
Yeah. I just got an email from my trainer saying she was going to open up again next week, but I’m not feeling ready to mingle with so many “new” people quite yet. . .
I so feel you! I’m going to the outdoor gym I’m lucky enough to have 10 minute’s walk from my place now that playgrounds have reopened and sometimes there are SO. MANY. SWEATY. PEOPLE. working out in groups and not disinfecting their hands after touching the pull-up bars and I freak out a bit. I’ve learned to head there between 9am and noon so it’s more empty.
BTW, I didn’t think that your musings on the upscale grocery store yesterday were mundane at all! Right now, it’s all a mirage for me.
Oh worst night ever, fought for every minute of sleep.
Greece indeed. I know I have posted here over the years how much I loved the time we lived there and cried the whole way when we left.
I have never gone back, too tender at the bone. But oh to see that heavenly light on the caldera on Santorini is like none other.
SOTD post shower something light. One the the eauxs, maybe Paris Deauville
Gosh, apsara, I hope you get some sleep today or tonight. No important decision-making until you do!
2nd that! Good luck apsara.
thanks, I am already using my Calm app as I am working.
Only big decisions is how many carbs can I have today?
Save a few for 9pm; they will help you drift off to sleep!
Sorry for the sleepless night. Your description of the caldera from Santorini is spot on.
Aww <3 hope you get some sleep tonight to make up for it!
I’m sorry you had such a rough night. I think you should have all the carbs today to make up for it!
all the carbs. all the time.
Yuck, sorry about the sleepless night. That sucks.
Wearing Orange X Santal from Essential Parfums.
It starts with a fresh & juicy orange and then goes a bit drier, woody and more masculine. A bit Terre d’Hermes style.
Good for sightseeing vacation in a hot city. Rome maybe?
I am right there with you. I would like to revisit Rome / Vatican for a week, with a day trip to visit the archeology museum in Naples.
I’ve been to Naples on one of my holidays and I remember it was extremely hot and humid there… in September!
SOTD is Neela Vermiere Ashoka.
Trying to burn through a box of samples, and I’d forgotten I had a vial of SL Daim Blond, so I put on a couple of drops and then I remembered why I’d forgotten: it’s a leather scent but the leather is drowned in waaaaaaay too much iris, one of a few notes I’ve never liked and probably never will. Time to scrub.
Oh no, and that perfume is so difficult to scrub off, it’s tenacious!
I scrubbed the hell out of it with that new(ish?) Method Rosewater hand soap and then put on some Lush Rose Jam body spray. Daim Blond didn’t stand a chance.
I saw the Method Rose (maybe it was Rosewater?) dish soap recently at the Target near me. I thought about getting it for use as a hand soap but decided not to.
I loved Daim Blond until we sat behind a woman who had drowned herself in it. We were at a very crowded concert. Iirc Jeff Beck was playing. I haven’t touched the bottle since. Should probably re-home it. Jeff Beck was, as always, amazing.
My SOTD is Hermes Pamplemousse Rose, bright, spicy, citrus with rose, perfect for today’s SF hot weather.
On the news, a juvenile cougar made their way to downtown SF. He was humanely trapped and returned to the Peninsula where his family is thought to be.
Beautiful cat, and I hope he doesn’t go on walkabout again! This happy ending made my day. taking comfort in little bits of positive news where I can. 🙂
Oh that is so cool!
Yes, they were found by SF Giant’s baseball stadium, which is close to a freeway on-ramp. This could have ended very badly. They are at the Oakland Zoo and hopefully will be returned. Video is below…
https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2020/06/18/san-francisco-police-corner-wayward-mountain-lion-in-china-basin-neighborhood/
Wow. Missed that story. Thanks for posting. They are such beautiful animals!
He was quite spectacular! Even though he’s not full grown, it two several people to handle him. Such powerful animals.
Apparently, all the police officers were calling the big cat a ‘she’ because ‘he’ was so beautiful.
😀
Wow – that’s an adventurous cougar! I’m so glad to hear he was safely relocated.
Glad big kitty got rehomed back where he can have some peace and quiet! Thanks for sharing that story, happy endings are the best!
Awww yay that he was rehomed.
Thanks for the awesome news link! ?
Sure thing!
Robin, all of this week’s paintings have been beautiful, but this one really gets me. I think it’s all the leaf blemishes and fig cracks. Wow!
I myself am in Ginger Piccante. I ripped through my first decant, but luckily received a very generous second one 🙂 It is a lovely call to a vacation…literally anywhere that is not my house. Honestly at this point I’d settle for a walk through a bustling downtown.
Twins
I would love to see all her paintings in their original colors, wouldn’t that be cool?
Yes, that would be glorious! This one in particular looks like one I’d stare at from a 3″ distance for hours on end.
Almost went with Philosykos today as well.
But, I’m in 31 Rue Cambon and quite happy with my choice.
Robin: the detail link for the painting is not working — interested in getting closer 😉 And so glad you’ve shared this amazing woman’s work this week as I’m really enjoying each day’s painting.
So glad you told me — fixed!
Good Morning All,
Yesterday SoTD: SSS Tabac Aurea
Today MFK 540 Baccarat Rouge Extrait. I am testing to see if I am anosmic to ambroxan in the regular version.
I love this one so much.
Well….then my split of Le Galion L’ Ame Perdue just arrived and it smells heavenly so it will be a glorious week. Thanks Pixel!
It will be perfect for a Friday Fantasy vacation.
I cannot smell the edp, haven’t tried the extrait.
Thanks for sharing cazaubon, I thought it was just me.
I wish I was asnosmic to ambroxan. I sometimes I think I smell it, even when it’s not there. LOL
🙂
Love today’s painting, but I only eat figs, not wear them!! In Ginger Piccante and am someplace on a lake in Maine or New Hampshire, where it’s warm and sunny all day but cool enough at night to sleep under a handmade cotton quilt.
I like the sound of this! I have a quilt I won at an auction. I need to wash it.
I sleep under a cotton quilt. 🙂
I previously did NOT like figs but now I quite enjoy them! I’ve always had a thing for fig trees though lol!
I love fresh figs but can’t stand dried ones. Isn’t that funny?
Comparing Vangelis and Valkyrie today.
I don’t like to complain w/ everything going on in the world but I have been completely unmotivated this past week. It’s like I have hit a virtual wall. I have no interest in work and have to bribe myself w/ things like a bowl of blueberries or a piece of chocolate to get even small/simple work tasks done right now. And the medium/large tasks I am just ignoring. Just utter lethargy and lack of drive right now.
My perfume strips came yesterday so soon I shall be systematically going through and testing my samples/old FBs not unlike Mr. Morillas in the gorgeous pics from the link below that Robin shared a few days ago. Beautiful, scent-strip fans will be my motivation now. 🙂
https://www.buro247.sg/beauty/insiders/kenzo-perfumer-alberto-morillas-has-been-up-to-while-working-from-home.html
Completely understand. That’s how I felt all last week – like I hit a wall. I actually took a couple of work hours one day and just read a book, went out for more walks, etc. But I didn’t feel bad about it after all my 11 hour days. It’s a hard time right now.
Thanks…yes, I have been walking and reading…I need to start book 6 for Ruth Galloway next too. 🙂 Hope your dentist visit went well. ?
Are you able to take a day off? We got 5 “COVID days” and a mental health day qualifies.
I might…we are supposed to be using some extra PTO during the summer to avoid additional furloughs.?No one in my department has been furloughed but some other departments have.
Maybe you need to take a break..when you are stressed and feeling not yourself you are more likely to get sick.
At this very moment, I am baking a chocolate cake. It has 2 tablespoons of flour, so I feel less guilty about eating several slices. Passing you one..
Maybe you should give your testing strips a break and go back to your vanilla scented perfumes, they always seem to bring you joy…just a suggestion..
Also, during this shutdown (NYC is still in Phase 1!) I lost my desire to read. I became really unmoved by everything I picked up. Then I dived into this Neapolitan series of books and I re-gain my reading mojo. So, I guess I am saying, this too shall pass..
I love flourless/low flour cake. 🙂 Yes, I shall focus on vanilla but I am excited to sniff samples as I work too. I will check out that book series too…I was devouring books but I have taken a break over the past week and maybe I need to immerse myself again.
I was in a similar position last week. Just completely unmotivated to do anything. I think that being at home has lost all of its charm.
I know how you feel She-Ra. I hope that the perfumes help distract and soothe you. I can’t add any better suggestions here, maybe just put on your favorite music too?
I’ve been doing the small bribes to get tasks done, too.
It’s supposed to be a warm, sunny day here. Wearing Twilly and trying to persuade myself to be productive.
Did you talk yourself into productivity?
I am lagging today myself. Am getting some stuff done, but not as much as I planned.
Going to Oregon for a 4 day weekend of hiking and fishing (with masks and social distancing, of course) – I mean, in reality we are going, not just the cp! Wearing Chanel Bois des Iles which works with any vacation.
Nice! Whereabouts in Oregon? Outside of metro Portland, I’ve only been to Bend.
Bend is where we are going. We lived in Portland for about three years – had a great time, but two very young sons at the time and never got to Bend.
Great!
I am planning today for a week in August in upstage NY for the whole family.
Has anyone visited Saratoga Springs?
Oh fun!
Wow – have a fantastic trip!!!
Fun! Enjoy!
How fun! Just got word that the National Parks will be opening next week, our summer camping trips are ON!!!
Wearing L’Air du Desert Marocain. Being a bit sideways in CP vacation thoughts in that I’m thinking of the Grand Canyon. Wanted something dry, woody, a bit scrubby. Specifically, though, I’m wanting another 14-day raft trip down the Colorado. Sleeping outside, bathing in the river, floating along enjoying the quiet scenery, reading, laughing through rapids and cooling down by just dumping water over my head, hiking side canyons and sitting by a waterfall. And no connection to the outside world.
That sounds wonderful!
That sounds like heaven.
Goodness, that does sound perfect.
is there room in your raft? 😉
SOTD = Guerlain Liu
… from the SplitMeet. Holy aldehydes! Smells like Chanel No. 5 EDP and not Guerlainesque at all. I may have to re-up but perhaps I will switch it up or maybe not at all ?. It is very nice but do I need more of this? Time will tell.
Connection to the CP. Teleport me to the flagship Guerlain boutique, all testers sanitized and I am the only person there except when I need something, an SA will appear. I don’t mind paying for perfumes bit since it’s a fantasy, I can keep complimentary Bee Bottle atomizers of whatever I want.
In other news, I’m not sure which organization it was but there were many cars that kept driving up to the closed community center parking lot as I was taking my walk. I went elsewhere to continue my walk and walked past the community center again on the way home. There were maskless, not socially-distanced younger teenagers running around, some are doing push-ups while others sat around listening to a pep talk. Perhaps a soccer league as there were both males and females. I know it’s outdoors and generally safer….but exercise expels virus particles. I got out of there quickly even though I was far away from the action.
Wait…are there really travel sized atomizers that have the bee bottle texture?? If so, they should be refillable!
Not good to see kids out socializing with no distancing. On my walk this morning, I noticed a big bunch of little kids, under 6, all playing together. This was new. I looked at one of the moms and I must have looked surprised (really can’t play poker here), and she just shrugged her shoulders. ?
Yes, refillable mini bee bottle:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B-h2PxDhl-gYralW-iib8b-EXNqhACbceuwGDQ0/?igshid=j41xomq2xhxd
It was a gift with purchase. The normal refillable travel sprays are generic.
Oh goodness, both bottles are gorgeous! What a treasure.
And meant to comment on the kids – not good!
Here in Québec, the pediatricians said the masks and social distancing rules would be too stressful and traumatic for younger children, so daycares and day camps are functioning normally. I see groups of them in the parks here every day.
Are the adults in masks? Otherwise, the children are not protected and they can become a symptomatic carriers. You can’t win with this ? ?.
No the adults are not wearing masks outdoors, I don’t know about indoors.
I prefer Lui, but vintage Liu was gorgeous.
Yeah, some of the teens in my neighborhood are hanging out and not wearing masks either.
Wafting Azemour today, and STILL dreaming of vacationing in the south of France. Or maybe Portugal.
You. Smell. Good.
Periodh.
Thank you! (I think so too.)
I have always wanted to go to Portugal! Azemour would work.
Looks like we’re on the same wavelength. I was in Lisbon yesterday and today I’m in Paris!
I’m loving the images you’re using this week Robin! Her paintings have a timelessness about them. I was amazed that she lived in the 1600’s.
I’m in a bunch of sprays of Orange Sanguine + a couple of sprays of Vanille Insensee, so I smell like a really nice creamsicle today. Still looking through and enjoying the post from last Saturday! ?
Do you enjoy Orange Sanguine Nancy?
It’s one of very few Atelier Cologne that are a total miss for me.
You don’t even love that initial burst of orange? Truthfully I can take it or leave it other than the opening which I love!
On me that orange smells very plastic-y
I absolutely love it. Realistic blood orange On my skin for the first few minutes. OS, VI and Oolang Infini are my favorites from the line.
Yes, there is something really modern about her painting!
Your cool aunt is wearing a lot of Cabochard.
Is she???
I wear Roma and wish i was there with the boyfriend.
But in reality he got worse this morning after being dismissed from the hospital yesterday. So we went to our GP, found out the pleural effusion has returned and so i drove him again to the hospital. He was so weak and had trouble breathing that he wanted a wheelchair. Sadly i was not allowed to accopany him. When i returned after parking the car, he was gone and i had to drive home. Now he has a temperature, had his chest tapped again and is isolated as a possible COVID case.
I am so deeply sorry to hear about it, Tannina. I hope your boyfriend recovers soon. Sending positive and healing vibes.
Tannina, you and your boyfriend are in my prayers. I hope he feels better very soon.
So sorry Tannina, worrying for you.
So sorry !
I will light an incense for him
Oh dear. Really sorry Tannina.
Oh Tannina, so sorry. Prayers.
Oh tannina, I am so sorry to hear that he’s taken a bad turn. I will keep both of you in my thoughts.
Oh wow… so sorry to hear this Tannina. Sending so many good wishes your way and hoping you have a good local support network to help you out right now.
Oh no, that is terrible. I pray he has a speedy recovery.
Oh no! Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that your boyfriend is back in hospital.
Meditating for health and healing for your boyfriend and strength for you, Tannina.
Oh no! How scary and sad for you! I hope he’ll improve soon.
Tannina, I’m really sorry he is going through this, and you as well. Wishing the best to you both.
I’m so sorry to hear about this setback Tannina.
Oh gosh Tannina, I am so so sorry. Are you by yourself? I am thinking of you and hoping for a quick improvement.
You both are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong.
We’re thinking of you and your boyfriend. *big hugs*
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your boyfriend. Hoping he recovers quickly. Sending healing vibes your way.
I’m on fantasy vacation today in Sitges, Spain. It’s hot and sunny and breezy and I’m wearing Dune. I’m going to spend most of the day on the beach but will also eat delicious food and beverages haha.
I love Dune more and more every time I wear it. I can’t stop sniffing myself and I honestly think it may be FB worthy to me.
Oh, yes to a bottle of Dune, you smell wonderful, it is so unique.
Also, thank you to everyone for the condolences on the loss of my uncle. I haven’t lost an aunt or uncle since I was 18, so maybe that’s why this one has bummed me especially. Regardless, I sincerely appreciate the warm thoughts! Hugs!
Hugs to you. I imagine losing someone you love during such a stressful period is even worse than when you lose someone and the world is normal.
I love it because I truly do not have anything else that smells like it.
Gosh, meant to reply to Aurora!
I am wearing Chanel 1932 on this warm, but lovely day.
Started out crap here but it’s nice, if a bit humid, now. At least we have sun.
SoTD is PdN Haute Provence, because I’d love to go there when the lavender is in bloom. Slim chance of that happening, of course. We are going to Maine next week, trying to decide what scents to bring. Not a fan of aquatics. Our place is on a tidal bay that opens to the Atlantic, so it always smells of the sea – salt, mudflats, pine, stone, with an overlay of old New England house. Not musty, more like furniture polish, wood floors, cinnamon toast, citronella and flowers. What would you bring?
Wood Sage and Sea Salt comes to mind right away. What about a light incense? Ouarzazate?
Good ones!
Ooh, nice idea. Wonder if there’s a place open with Jo Malone.
I would bring Eau des Merveilles – it blends well with the scents you describe.
Another one I don’t have. More samples to buy! Thanks 🙂
That sounds so lovely, you don’t need perfume! (heresy, I know)
I do love straight-up ocean smell. Blood pressure drops 20 points as soon as we pull into the drive.
I agree with Robin – if it smells as good as I’m imagining, skip the perfume!
Simplifies packing too!
I’d think about some cozy fuzzy scents for when it gets chilly at night!
How about Box of Eels or No. 19?
Hi all!
Beating the heat with CdG White, a fruity spicy favorite. Not one for citrus usually and I need something interesting in heat!
Stay safe.
White must be lovely.
I’m wearing RP Visa, sometimes you need one to get to the vacation of your dreams, and also because weather has stayed on the cool and windy side after a heavy shower this morning.
The wet weather continues, it’s rained for days. Why is our weather so changeable when you want more than one sunny day at a time, but so settled when it rains 🙁
Smelling good in Ashoka.
Sounds like your winter weather is the same mess that my spring weather was.
I have been testing out different fragrances for the last few days for my upcoming trip to Lakeway Resort in Austin next weekend. Getting ready for some R & R and wanting something to wear that goes with enjoying cool pools and fun in the sun. Open for suggestions from everyone.
SOTD: Chloe
I like this because its light with that rosy note lingering. This may be one of the scents I take with me.
FWIW, I tend to avoid wearing perfume on anything that will be exposed to the sun.
I’m wearing Nick’s Sunflower by Eric Buterbaugh Florals. I first sampled it while I was on a summer holiday at the beach, so my fantasy vacation for today is to be back in the Outer Banks.
Tried some Victorinox Snowflower to pretend I was escaping from frustration today and going back to Gelateria Dondoli in San Gimignano Italy to gorge myself on ice-cold mastercraft gelato.
Two tedious Zoom conferences beginning at 8am and a very frustrating time trying to go to Office Depot to FINALLY print some important documents off, only to be foiled at every turn by document password protection! The computer they normally have accessible has been withdrawn for social distancing, and the remote printing options don’t let you enter a password!
At the same time my tax returns are a combined 150+ pages (yay for working internationally…) I have a neighbor that’s been kind enough to print out some 1-2 pages for me during the pandemic but 150 is a bit ludicrous.
Maybe I can bribe her with beignets…
OMG and I thought my tax returns were bad! We do dual Canada US.
Me too, but I worked in 14 different countries last year and had tax withholding done in almost all of them. Yeesh!
Thankfully it’s not ME trying to parse that, and my new accountants are excellent. We won’t talk about what went wrong with my previous firm’s filing of my 2017/2018 returns, I’m still trying to fix that mess ?
I am waiting until the bitter end to do mine. I am back to having to do 2 states and 1 federal return, not counting what I have to do for my mom and her estate.
I wish you luck, and patience and more patience!!! Taxes are the worst headache.
I would do anything for beignets but this sounds beyond my competence.
Robin, those figs in that picture look good enough to eat! Yum!
Woke up this morning with a headache that didn’t leave until after lunch. Ugh. So I’ve been unproductive today. I’m OK with that… no sense in making things harder on myself.
SOTD = back in Rock Crystal EdP. I’m somewhere calming and soothing.
I was so unmotivated I went back to bed at 9:30. Slept another 90 minutes and felt so much better when I got up the second time. Hope your day improved.
I am feeling better, thanks!
Lack of productivity seems to be a theme today! Glad your headache is better Jalapeno.
Tested Zoologist Bee today, courtesy of the ever-generous Hajusuuri. Started out kind of iffy, but developed into a beautiful honey skin scent. Yum!
And loving the Giovanna Garzoni paintings this week! So nice to see recognition of a female artist from this era.
I will try to find more…or will take suggestions!
No perfume yet for me — maybe something soothing at bedtime. I’m having a “getting nowhere fast” day today.
Tuesday(?) I was up all night reading an advanced reader copy of a book. Title is Unhallowed, by Jordan L. Hawk. Hawk takes H.P. Lovecraft monsters and some of the concepts, but subverts Lovecraft’s messages in ways I find delightful. This is kind of a spin-off from his Widdershins/Whyborne and Griffin series, set in the same spooky New England town some years later than the events of that series, and with different protagonists.
Mom reads historical fiction and contemporary and historical romance as her relaxing reading. She doesn’t read science fiction or fantasy at all.
Me: I finished a book with a kinder, gentler tentacle monster!
Mom: ….
Me, today: the setting is a magical library, but there are realistic bits, too. There’s a professor asking a reference librarian for the bound periodical with the green cover. Reference librarian tells him all the periodicals are bound in green. Professor says that it may have had “journal” in the title.
Mom: *puts her head in her hands* She could obviously feel that reference librarian character’s pain.
LOL at “kinder, gentler tentacle monster!”
I realized early on that this book was a riff off of “The Dunwich Horror,” only Lovecraft’s messages about what’s particularly horrible get upended.
Like how Lovecraft thought that the implication that a character is mixed-race adds greatly to the horror of a horror story — Hawk skips or subverts the racism and misogyny and such, and humanizes characters.
Seeing that today was International Sushi Day inspired me to get up and go out and get sushi to celebrate. I found that an Asian fusion place in our area was open for takeout and got eel avocado sushi.
Bit of background: one place I worked back when was located in a corporate park, with restaurants around that focused on the lunch crowd. A co-worker went out for sushi, and I said, “Surprise me.” LOL. But I discovered that I liked eel sushi. 🙂
I wore Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be today. Was reminded of it by the weekend poll. Had an odd day with interspersed periods of conferencing and cooking. Heard a fascinating presentation on virtual reality and empathy from a psych researcher in Tel Aviv and then made dinner to take over for my best friend’s birthday. Usually we take each other out for our bdays. I made Parmesan asparagus, French potato salad with lots of fresh herbs, and seared Ahi tuna. Plus I included some shrimp cocktail and cupcakes from the store. I think she liked it! She is immune compromised so I can’t go in and we can’t go out.
Wow. that birthday feast sounds great!
You are a really good friend and that dinner sounds amazing!
Working is really cutting into my NST time, dang it all!
Today I wore Vanilla Vibes and now just sprayed Escada Aqua del Sol. It’s been a throw away perfume day, as the heat soaked it up off my skin.
I don’t know what I will pick for tomorrow, I’m going to leave it up to my mood.
SotD = Prada Purple Rain . . .
from a neverending sample vial. I’ll be sad when it’s gone, so onto the FB wish list it goes!
Chose Purple Rain because I was craving straight up iris today.
Gorgeous purple figs in that painting, makes me want to go to Italy to buy some and maybe a souvenir bottle of Prada perfume.
Those gorgeous purple figs are making me wonder if figs are in season where I am at! Probably a little too early for them.
I wish that I had a fig perfume that smells as beautiful as those figs look.
Not fig leaf, just fig.
same! fig leaf in perfume is ok, but perfume that smells like the flesh of figs and captures their amazing flavor would be fantastic.
oh goodness, yes, fig season is one of my favorite times of year. I can eat a dozen in one sitting. 😉
