And *poof*, the weekend is over. By way of compensation, it's Beer Day Britain, and perhaps a shade less helpful, Global Wind Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, one of the gajillion perfumes mentioned on the weekend poll. I might wear it again on Friday for the community project.
Reminder: on 6/19, we're doing Fantasy Vacation Friday...pick a destination and wear the scent that takes you there. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: I'm featuring paintings by Giovanna Garzoni this week; I became interested in her art after Kevin sent me the article The Baroque Artist Who Captured the World in Her Still Lifes. Shown above is detail from Still Life with Bowl of Citrons, Giovanna Garzoni (Italian, 1600 - 1670), via J Paul Getty Museum, public domain.
I’m wearing one of my most worn holiday perfumes: Eau d’Eté, very little of it left in my 30 ml bottle. It’s very, very good.
We had quite the weekend on here, didn’t we? I think it was hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed myself, so thanks for hosting Robin.
Is that the Nicolai fragrance, austenfan? I need to get some of that for the summer – it’s on my list.
It is, I think it is one of her first Eaux Fraîches and definitely the oldest one still in production. It’s a wonderful summer scent.
Oh, I should pull my bottle out…I think I have plenty since I wear the Eau Exotique so much more.
Thanks for the reminder of PdN Eau d’Ete, austenfan! I had forgotten that I had a 15ml size in my closet. It’s gorgeous. Scent twins today!
Good, we are improving the olfactory universe!
Sounds like I missed a great party this weekend! Will have to go back and read what all I missed!
I’m wearing Hinoki Vanilla, applied last night before bed and still going strong.
Fun weekend thread! So many comments! I bet we beat any preexisting max number of responses. ??
That’s what I was wondering! I think that’s the highest comment total I’ve seen on NST!
🙂
We have not yet hit the 2009 number, although we might.
I’m going back to comment some more then! What do we have to beat?
I’ve already added two 😉
1154!
And, done.
Spending a little bit of time with no 19 edp. My bank account is dreading the vet’s office tomorrow. A basic checkup, heartworm test and rabies is probably going to run me about $150. I am thinking maybe Kyoto for this afternoon for work.
I hope your furry baby is ok and the damage to your wallet is minimal!
I hope so too. It’s ridiculous on what vets cost for very basic stuff. My vet is reasonably priced but I hope it’s not a massive one.
When the vet would come in with a 2 page itemized treatment list for me to approve for my cat I had a chair ready to sit down so I didn’t fall over in shock.I usually needed the chair!
And No. 19 is perfect, the EDP formulation is my favorite.
Facing Monday gently in my beloved vintage Ivoire.
Gently is the way to go on Monday morning…
Oh, that’s a beaut!
Robin, thanks for the weekend poll. It was fun, entertaining and very informative. My list to try things have grown considerably. Really good!
Wearing OJ Champaca, because I just had few drops left in my decant and I was craving for it. Thunk!
Beautiful spring day here! Coffee and already facing a busy working day.
Be well, everyone!
OJ’s Champaca is so beautiful, you smell lovely!
Enjoy the coffee!
Thank you! ?
So glad!
You smell great!
Thank you! ?
SOTD is Sweet Redemption.
Connection to the cp: seeing and smelling orange trees in bloom is on my bucket list.
I want a greenhouse with an orange tree!
Yes!
You should go visit my sister in Ojai, CA.
Maybe one day I will be able to go to the US. Although Spain and Italy are closer to me. I envy your sister!
Oh, I’d much rather go to Spain or Italy to smell oranges! I very much would have Seville on my bucket list.
I vote for Spain. We could come visit you, some day.
Adding to LisaD’s post:
Yes, please. I would plan for lots of visitors. 😀
?
Ok, if I ever go to Spain, I will expect you, ladies. ✈
Spain with a bunch of perfume friends sounds marvelous.
Starting off participating in the CP – my SOTD is Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures, since something I have always wanted to do, after reading Pillars of the Earth, is do a good guided tour of the great Medieval Cathedrals of Europe with an emphasis on the architecture… This is a lovely incense perfume, more “oomph” that Heeley Cardinal, but not as overwhelming as Avignon, which gets to be a little too much for my nose after a while….
My folks are going on vacation to California on June 30th and I am already planning some small projects that I can do before they come back on July 10th. Projects that I have been meaning to do but can only really be done when everyone is out of the house. It means I can burn whatever scented candles I want, wear whatever perfume I really want to wear. I am pretty stoked about that.
I meant to post to my original post but accidentally posted on yours. Sorry about that.
No worries, we are all talking about the same thing – what candles are you going to burn freely with no one around to be annoyed?
I have straight up apple scents from BBW. My mother hates foody scented candles and she said the apple makes her queasy and I have 14 of them. I want to just whittle the 36 candles down to a little more manageable number.
Oh I would love to do such a tour too!
I only had time for a bit of the weekend poll, looking forward to perusing the rest! I wore En Voyage perfumes Captured in Amber yesterday on a whim and it smelled so good I’m wearing it again today. Heavy amber is firmly in the cold weather group in my head but I’ve decided to branch out a bit this summer and I get a pleasant coffee note I never noticed before.
I really enjoy Captured in Amber but have never tried it in warm/hot weather. But I’m sure you smell great.
I’m wearing Tam Dao for the first time, and getting a crayon note, which I’ve noticed before in other fragrances. Maybe it’s the sandalwood?
I’ve encountered that crayon note before, but will have to go look at my spreadsheet to remind myself what had it. Which formulation are you trying – EDT or EDP?
My spreadsheet was no help at all – I have a clear memory of typing “crayons!” into it, but the search function is not finding it. I’m wondering if the crayon note is similar to the “plastic doll head” note that others have mentioned, and whether they were getting that from sandalwood scents. In any event, I’m apparently useless on this as I don’t get crayons from Tam Dao (and I don’t get doll-head from anything). 🙂
I sometimes get a slightly plastic note from rich sandalwood fragrances. but not Tam Dao…
Waxy smell? I get that from FM Lipstick Rose
I get something waxy and/or oily from Kenzo Flower.
I’m wearing an old favorite: YSL Cinema. I find it both beautiful and comforting. Like ringthing, I wasn’t able to spend much time on the weekend poll – it will be fun to read through later.
And I need to add Cinema to the vanilla list while I am there reading!
it’s already on the mimosa list there (and since then on my personal to-try list)
Edt or edp,?
I have a small (15 ml) bottle of the EDP – I haven’t tried the EDT.
YSL Cinema is so pretty, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it mentioned. You smell fabulous!
You smell great! I should have bought a bottle when it was released. But I kept waiting for it to go to discounters… and then I fell down the rabbit hole 🙂
This fragrance came up this weekend under the Mimosa strand! You smell lovely!
You smell fantastic! I love that one!
I am in Lahore in Shalimar Cologne
Donatella forgives right? I will ask her in Italian..?
Now that this bottle of cologne is thunked I bought another off the evil bay. One think is for sure, I will use it.
Of course Donatella forgives, especially if you ask her in Italian.?
Here’s a challenge —
Write a haiku in Italian where the English translation follows the traditional haiku form as well ?
Challenge excepted, I will try my best
Literally or metaphorically in Pakistan? Enjoy your visit if the first! Lahore is on my list of places I must visit
for the CP ” we’re doing Fantasy Vacation Friday…pick a destination and wear the scent that takes you there”
Oops! Need more coffee
Absolutely she forgives. I’m sure she understands that one must smell fabulous.
Love this!
I am wearing Guerlain Idylle and drinking a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
I like Idylle…Guerlain seems to be letting it languish.
Yes Robin, I too really enjoyed the weekend poll. First time in ages was reading and commenting and laughing to myself.
Bad nights sleep.
Might get furloughed this week. If I do I will have to suck it up and keep moving forward.
Post shower I think just le labo hinoki body cream especially on my non pedicured feet.
Yes, I too am taking it week by week thinking I too may get furloughed or just laid off. Not a comfortable position to be in but today I have work and so I’m grateful.
Gosh, keeping fingers crossed for both of you.
Flora gal and apsara, I’m sorry to hear that – I’m hoping and praying you both keep your jobs.
Enrollment at our school is down substantially, we probably will be furloughed. We were informed of the news at a department-wide meeting last week. Our campus has been through this before, in 2009 but still disheartening.
I’m not sure what the financial situation is at your campus but ours has billions and billions of dollars of endowment that they won’t tap into even though legally they can. It makes me so mad that they are instead furloughing and not renewing contingent positions. Just use the rainy day fund dang it! It’s pouring after all
That is infuriating. If this isn’t a rainy day I don’t know what is! Perhaps this is their subtle means of reducing staff under the cover of Covid.
Yes I think it’s precisely that
yasmina, it’s the same thing at my community college. There are millions in our district reserve, but they refuse to spend it. Every year, and even in times of extreme budget crisis, they add to the reserves.
It’s maddening. There was an excellent (open access) analysis of what drives this endowment accumulation no matter published in the Stanford Law Review
Best of luck, apsara. We (University of Washington Medicine: I am administrative) are furloughed for two weeks of our choosing through the end of Sept. This is my first furlough week which is glorious as far as finally having a break, and awful as far as no paycheck. But I do still have a job to return to. So far.
Much luck on the job front! Difficult times…
Crossing my fingers for you!!! I’m in the “freelancer so automatically unemployed” category but at least we have CERB here in Canada…
Fingers crossed for anyone worried about their job situation right now. It sucks having an additional layer of uncertainty to cope with.
Good Luck Aspara, fingers crossed for you.
I started the day in O de Lancome thinking I had 1 more week of wfh. Checked my emails and I’m supposed to be in the next group working back in the office starting today. But they didn’t send the email until after I logged out in Thursday (with Friday my day off). Typical, lol.
I therefore just blasted myself with some vintage Shalimar edt to celebrate in style!
I like O de Lancome Orangerie and it sounds lovely right about now
I call these stealth emails; however, if the emails always go out on Fridays, then my MO is to check some time during the weekend, but I’m anal, so there’s that too.
A pet peeve is someone in Asia scheduling a meeting with < 24 hours notice. If it is that urgent, text me to get on a call – my cell is published on the company directory.
We aren’t required to ‘check in’ on off-hours so I emailed them stating I will be back tomorrow. If they can’t get their act together on-time, then it’s on them.?
I’m sure there were a few more people than just me.
I’m with you on this. I recently had a shift cancelled and then three hours later was called back and asked to come in, saying they had meant to put me “on call” instead of cancelling me. So sorry, but by the that time already had dinner and wine. ?
Oh my goodness..crazy. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Glad you stood your ground!
Good call!!! SO not worth the stress of trying to scramble into the office unprepared.
You can blast yourself with Shalimar around me anytime.
Yay for women classical artists! Although I’m not a fan of insects or bugs in still lifes.
Robin, was yesterday a record number of comments? Wow!
SOTD: Paris-Riviera (probably too literal for the CP but what the heck, I’m going with it)
Not quite, see same question above.
I am part Welsh..so maybe I can celebrate Beer Day. I treated myself to some Welsh cheese yesterday so..may as well have some beer to wash it down lol. I prefer a dark amber or even a chocolatey stout except Guinness ugh. Nasty flat beer lol. But I think Brits generally take their beer flat..yuck haha.
The sun beat me up some yesterday lol. So, I am throughly enjoying the Cucumber Lime Gatorades.
Commando but wondering if there is a cucumber perfume out there
Yeah, flat beer is disgusting.?
One sip of beer and I’m full so I avoid it.
Me too. I only buy beer at the ball park. And hot dogs. I’m a traditionalist.
Amouage Reflection reminds me of BBW’s Cucumber Melon, fwiw.
Reflection is lovely:).
The ck one summer 2017 or 2018 has cucumber plus citrus
Oh thank you, looks like it has lime and cucumber:) will definitely have to ck this out
Welsh cheddar is wonderful.
I am of the opinion that people that do not enjoy beer on a regular basis have simply not met the right beer. I adore beer and I recently had a Schlenkerla1405 Smokey Marzen that had the most beautiful nose and I would liken to drinking an incense perfume if such a thing was possible. I have sipped a 1000 flowers, hops are flowers and the nose of an IPA is part of what makes beer a feast for the senses. Juicy and lush smells like pineapple, mango, guava, berries, bananas have all been captured in beer. Lavender beer and jasmine beer. These exist and they are delicious. The way that brewers talk about notes is exactly the same terms that perfumers use and that we talk about! The glassware, the colors and textures of beer are just amazing. I have not even talked about sour beers that are good for your microbiome and have half the calories of regular beer and are often made by collecting local flower petals and throwing them in the brew, this is where a regional souring bacteria is found. There is such poetry just in that, not to mention that beer and ale and fermenting was until just recently, historically the work of women. You have heard of an ale wife but never an ale husband. I shall hop off my beerbox now….
???! I say the same thing about beer! We have a friend locally who used to swear that she would never, ever like beer. Mr. Jalapeno and I just smiled at each other and said “Challenge accepted!” Said friend is now a total beer geek. ?
I cannot tell you how many I have converted with Lindemans Framboise, a raspberry lambic. I am sure you know it. I did not even talk about stouts or porters!
Yep, I am familiar with Lindemans. I’ve recommended some of their offerings to people in the past. I’m more of an IPA fiend, myself.
That Smokey Marzen sounds really good..no idea where to purchase something like that lol. I am not a fan of IPAs, however..too grassy, bitter, citrusy and bright for me. I tried Drakonic not too long ago and I enjoyed that. Chocolatey licorice! And I did try a raspberry one and forgot the name of it. Wasn’t bad. Lavender and jasmine beers sound like a must try.
So excited the weekend poll broke 1k comments.?
Sampling Chypre Mojo and Une Tonne de Roses from Parle Moi today. I was craving patchouli and both have it as indicated by the so-very-helpful advanced filter on Fragrantica…I can’t get enough of that thing. ♥️
I am buying some perfume scent strips today on Amazon methinks b/c I have too many samples and bottles to sniff and want to make headway on what to keep or get rid of. I think I will gain some efficiencies w/ strips. Of course perfume really blooms on skin but I think the strips will help me weed out some things that won’t even make it to the skin testing round. 😉
I had no idea amazon sold scent strips…but of course they do because they’re amazon.?I’ll have to get some the next time I order decants.
I got mine from $ephora ?
Ooh I need to try that search option
Neither of these scents pleased me so I will be moving on to something with vanilla….It is never too late to be what I might have been and all that. ?
I’m in Olivine Atelier Gigi perfume oil. Just have a little bit of this one left.
Another shout out for this weekends poll. Loved it!
Anyone else watch the season premiere of Grantchester last night? We started bingeing the series when my college daughter had to come home early this spring. We all loved it but were crushed when vicar Sidney Chambers left suddenly. We loved his character and well: James Norton. My youngest daughter wanted to stop watching completely, lol, but we powered through and the new vicar is growing on us. I mean, he’s no James Norton, but he’ll have to do.
Oh my I had no idea! I’m still watching via amazon prime and I’m sure it’s a season or two behind. James Norton is gone?! ?
Uh oh, sorry!? I should have said *spoiler alert.* Sadly yes, his character left.
I’ve gone through that with just about every Doctor Who……
It’s kind of a bummer when you like a character and then they leave.?
I did get tired of his moony eyed look over that woman, though. Get over it, bud.
LOL. My husband read somewhere that test audiences liked that story line so they kept her character on the show longer than originally planned.
Started it last night but only saw a few minutes. He hasn’t totally grown on me yet.
Hi all SOTD is a mix of Diptyque’s Ofresia and Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom. Spicy, green-stemmed florals. I think this is my favorite floral combination.
Mr. SmokeyToes and I went for a seven-mile walk on Friday night and a 10 mile walk with friends (we social distanced with masks) on Saturday. My tootsies are burning! Despite wearing a 50 SPF, I still got a little sun but I didn’t burn too badly.
Have a great day all! I didn’t get to participate in the Weekend poll but I’m looking forward to reading it later today. 🙂
Coffee consumed, running shoes on and I’m out the door.
*meep meep*
it will be a long read. well worth it for the ideas (and potentially dangerous for the wallet).
That is a lot of walking, good for you!
Wow! You are putting The Road Runner to shame!
Off to a socially distanced, outdoor, 1:1 meeting on campus. Starting today we must fill out daily health checks (I think only if we are going in, but that’s not clear), which OTOH feels invasive and OTOH is probably a good first step in tracking infection. We have some furloughs (staff and admin get a choice of that or pay cut) and all faculty are taking an 11.9% cut to monetary compensation — salary plus institutional retirement contribution. But no layoffs…yet.
Anyway, SOTD is Un Jardin sur le Toit (again) over Jergens coconut body lotion. I’m not sure the two scents play together that well on me, but the Jergens doesn’t last long enough for clashing to be a problem on most days.
Did you every find your Italian classes?
I think I have two left in this package..I will miss it!
Testing the new Hiram Green, Vivacious. Very different from what I was expecting. It is listed as having bergamot, violet, carnation, iris and amber. I’m wondering if it has violet leaf in it, as it is quite green and a bit astringent. No sweetness, and I don’t really smell the iris or amber. Mostly carnation and violet. Definitely not a safe blind buy. I think it will require a few wears to really figure it out and make friends.
Not what I was expecting to hear.
Good to know!
Thanks for your take on this!
Oh that is interesting. Hard to imagine how the unsweet violet holds up to the carnation, but I can see how this intriguing profile might not translate into a favorite perfume.
I’m not saying it’s bad, it just wasn’t what I was expecting. It is well-executed, just not to my particular taste, as I am not a greenery fan and prefer more sweetness/roundness to my perfumes.
Oh thank you. Lemming now quiet.
Head start on the CP with Aloha Tiaré – I was in Tahiti in the late 60s as a kid. I remember black sand beaches and, unfortunately, a lot of overcast weather. It’s not really on my bucket list to go back, but this also smells of Hawaii, which I adore and where I find it impossible to not relax. I love Hawaiian culture, music and the language. I think if you gave me a choice of immersion learning of any language, it might be Hawaiian.
The scent is on top of Blanc Lila body mousse, which has lost much of its scent but is still nice.
Walked the mile or so down to Trader Joe’s. Was horrified to see a long line, but I think it took only a bit over five minutes to get in the store…certainly felt like less than 10. Floragal gets an enabler pin for those sprinkle cookies.
Oh, I would give Tahiti a chance 😉
I’m in FM Bigarade Concentree from swapmeet. I really love it. I’m contemplating a travel spray. Someone PLEASE talk me out of this!
No, you should buy it, it is a stunner. Plus those travelsprays are cute.
Austenfan you are eveeeeel!!!
I think I need Undina – she is the master of the talking out. I hope she is around today
You should buy it. FM’s site is having a 7ml gift that comes with any $30 purchase. N/a.
? I’m throwing in the towel and getting out my credit card
Good girl! You deserve it!
It sounds like a good offer if there is something you want to get in 7 ml. Otherwise, depending on where you live, you could wait for either a sale % off or a good GWP, either from the brand or from a department store site.
Okay if even Undina is signing off on this I really better do it!
Annie is there an offer code for this? I’m on the site and don’t see it
No offer code, at check out they ask you which out of three choices you would like.
Don’t ask how I know. ?
*pats microphone*
Is this thing still on?
Hey guys!
Reporting in from Portland OR! How have you all beeen?
I am in a tiny spritz of Chanel 5.
Am still working from home. My front garden looks lovely with flowers and herbs; my backyard is a slug filled, tangled mess- I did not stake my peas well and they decided to take over the garden before the nasturiums do. At this point I am just collecting the peas and occasional nasturium blossom and letting them duke it out for now.
Let’s see, what else? I have lost a bit weight- just a bit- and have mastered sourdough and home repairs. I am currently practicing my calligraphy and drawing- I forgot how much I enjoyed this in college.
I took a calligraphy and a drawing course..so much fun. I do better with left handed nibs as I am a lefty and those are hard to find haha. As far as fine art goes, calligraphy and drawing are pretty cheap to keep as a hobby:). You smell great btw:).
Oh thank you! And yes,- I have all my nibs and pens from years ago. It was all packed up in garage along with my pastel sticks and I even found several trays of unopened watercolor tubes and Japanese inks!
Oh well done. I am firm believer in survival of the fittest for my gardening endeavors!
LET THEM FIGHT
Ha!
I win either way because both the peas and nasturiums give such beautiful flowers and I have been feasting on peas!
The flowers are tasty, too!
Really yummy! I love a pop of the flower on a big roasted veg platter!
Good to see you here! I’ve been wanting to do a course or two in water color painting, but of course nothing like that is open anywhere. Enjoy your fresh peas!
1) You know, don’t be afraid to take an online course or instruction from a book. Weirdly, I am following my own notes from 18 years ago- I still have my college art notebooks.
2) I have been feasting on peas and snap peas! So good!
SOTD = SL Fourreau Noir
Fun LWP thread!
It now feels normal to see people wearing masks in grocery stores. But I still get flabbergasted seeing people with their nose or nose + mouth uncovered, or people who insist on clogging up the aisle talking to each other (even masked because why increase the amount of particles floating around) or people who keep adjusting their mask.
In other news, here’s an article in the NY Post with a ranking of most to least risky activities.
https://nypost.com/2020/06/13/experts-rank-most-likely-places-to-contract-coronavirus/
And in the NYTimes (not linking to it) where Tara Parker-Pope suggested making trade-offs of activities, assigning risk points to activities and prioritizing based on your priorities AND not exceeding your personal threshold. One commenter was quite cynical when she mentioned that during the weekend, she has a dinner, a birthday party and a graduation party to attend. What is she going to do? ?. Sequence matters.
I think we’d all be better off if people would just wear the dam* mask and top it off by zipping their lips. Does that sound harsh? Sorry, not sorry. ?
No, not harsh. Mask everywhere!
This risk math sounds too complicated for me. I’m just going to avoid public indoor spaces as much as possible and wear a mask when I do have to go in
That’s one way but once you begin to integrate back into the new normal, you will still want to measure how much risk you’re taking with one activity vs another. I was talking to a co-worker and he said that if he had to go somewhere where he can either drive or fly, it depends on what else comes with the driving itself which is very safe. The moment you have to eat out, go for a pit stop and / or stay overnight somewhere, the other activities associated with the driving would have pit you at a greater risk overall than simply flying.
I was pretty surprised that flying on a plane was only a 5, I have gotten sick from flying more often than not over my lifetime, I would have put that at a 9.
I was surprised too but I suppose there are things that an airline is doing to mitigate risks like temp checks, mask wearing, flying with fewer people (although I was horrified by some of the pictures), more outside air in circulation.
I’m wondering where non-essential shopping falls? Like malls and similar places.
I think malls are still closed here in NJ, although a lot of things are supposed to be opening up on the 22nd.
Ours just opened this last week but with limited occupancy.
You’re correct! Some inside the mall stores are already doing curbside. Ask me how I know ?
What jalapeño said.
I have no issues with the masks in stores. And they’re required here, so that’s nice. I just hate wearing them walking outside and really think the risk is too low to warrant it in the heat.
I have been walking without a mask the last 3 times but I carry one with me anyway, just in case.
Hmmm. Dentist office is a 4. That’s where I’ll be on Wednesday. I’m not delaying my cleaning. I’m going in.
You will be fine!
Hopefully, you’re the first patient, if not, ask to have the room you’ll be in aired out before you enter. Dentist offices have infection control protocols already even pre- COVID which is probably why it is on the lower risk end of the spectrum. Good luck!
Wonder if people will get weird tan lines on their faces from wearing masks this summer?
LOL… I hope to never be in the sun long enough to tan although I think I have been getting a little bit darker just from having more natural sunlight or the reflection of it throughout the day.
Enabler pin to sayitisntso. After her good comments on the Eau de Cologne – not much written on it in contrast to the new Cologne -I saw a 75 ml bottle at 43% off (or for the princely sum of about $32) and couldn’t resist. It is smokey and leathery, yet light. Thanks!
Which cologne is this?
I thunked my sample dry of Musc Rav..I so wish there was a split of this one..it’s so divine. This would be too raunchy for me but with that cinnamon and vanilla..it just works. My ex described it as cinnamon road kill..lol.
So with it being 102 out..I may smell like hot, cinnamon road kill..or in my description..raunchy horchata and will love every second of it! Lol.
Split, you say????
I just got an email that my travel spray I purchased last week is delayed and I can cancel it.
I’ll split!
Lol my email is kalliela11 at the hotmail.
In vintage Amazone from a generous NSTer–feeling like I’ve hit the nail on the head of the CP–accidentally, but hey.
Had a wine and cheese thing with friends this past weekend, and it has really lifted my spirits. They brought their oldest daughter, who is the same age as our oldest son (they were in middle school together), and we hung out, 6-10 feet apart, in our backyard for hours just getting caught up. My husband made homemade focaccia, and we had cheese from the farmers market. Even the deer family decided to join us for a bit, to check out what all the fuss was about.
How cool getting deer visists as well as *gasp* talking to human beings again!
That sounds like a lovely get-together!
Sounds great!
A bit of normalcy is lovely. And the deer joining you, splendid.
That sounds wonderful. Sigh.
I’m in Cuir Cannage today because foxbins mentioned it over the weekend. Gorgeous.
Extremely gorgeous. 🙂
Hi all!
Wearing Galop today, fresh rosy leather. A coworker complimented it which is a wonderful feeling.
I upgraded to a plastic face shield last week, but I’m going to get tested tomorrow morning. I’m in a current hotspot and I’m trying to be proactive. No symptoms though!!
Stay safe all.
Fingers crossed you’ve not got the bug.
fingers crossed…
Fingers crossed!
Good luck! ?
Good luck! You smell great!
?! I hope that your test results are negative!
Thank you all for the well wishes! I have been as careful as possible but still working out in the public. Luckily we have enough tests to go around these days.
It was warmish and rainy, so I wore Chypre Mousse. This seems to grow on me and I am debating a bottle or doing a split on the parfumo website. It has a medicinal honey note that always reminds me of chestnut honey, that I bought on Italy from our landlord Guido, who kept lots of bees
How your other half doing? I hope he’s recovering well and quickly.
He got his chest tapped yesterday. 2 liters…. No wonder he had troubles breathing. And the doctor thought he was just not trying hard enough… Idiot.
Dang! That’s a lot of fluid! I hope things get much easier for him!
I have always wanted to try this one! I love any sort of honey note.
L’Artisan Parfumeur Passage d’Enfer ?
The name of this perfume intimidated me for so long that I didn’t bother trying it. Thought it would be dark, passagey and well hell-y.
But… no. It’s airy in my view. I really like the sample!
That should teach me: books & covers, perfumes & names (& bottles).
Might go on my list. Pity L’Artisan don’t do smaller individual bottles anymore.
Does it count for credit points?
Passage d’Enfer strikes me as a rather ironic name for such a pretty and airy perfume.
They used to make smaller sizes. I just do not need 100 mls of anything. I have a list going for the next split meet. Perhaps Passage D’Enfer needs to be added to it?
Oh… maybe. But splitting from Europe in my case. Not many european “splitters” in the last splitmeet
From what I’ve read, it’s actually the name of the street in Paris where L’Artisan Parfumeur is based. I was wondering about possible hellishness, too, but no. I like it a lot. I don’t need 100 mls of anything either, but I’d be up for a half-ounce or ounce of it. 🙂
that may explain the incongruous name. Maybe one for the next splitmeet.
Didn’t have a vacation in mind today, but I smell of Koyel’s homemade vanilla coffee scrub — delicious! 🙂 Thank you, Koyel. 😀
That scrub sounds like a pretty good way to start the day.
Yes, it was. 😀 Although I didn’t drink anything caffeinated in the morning, I felt nice and fresh and energized after my shower and scrub. 🙂
I got a good number of the remaining flowers and herbs I needed to plant planted on Saturday, so I felt like that was an accomplishment. 🙂 The scented geraniums are doing well. Some are flowering. The “red-flowered rose” geranium has nicely scented leaves and pretty flowers. I’m still in love with the fragrance of the lemon scented geranium — Pelargonium crispum — and ‘Rober’s Lemon Rose.’
I planted Abyssinian gladiolus a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve all sprouted and are growing quickly. That sort of gladiolus — formerly Acidanthera (sp?) — is supposed to be fragrant. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
SOTD is Lubin Jardin Rouge. The juicy top notes don’t last but they are gorgeous while they last!
Today is my son’s 18th birthday! And my last day of freedom before work starts tommorow. We are just hanging out right now, but later meeting with my brother and aunt for cake at the park.
Sotd is current version of Angel Croisiere. It’s supposed to have fig as a note, but probably doesn’t since I like it???
Happy Birthday to your son! Enjoy the gathering! ???
Thanks!
Happy 18th! Enjoy the cake..
I always enjoy cake!
Happy Birthday to your son! Have fun today.
Twinning with you on back to work tomorrow. Except I expected it to go back next week rather than this week; my coworker friend had to log in on Friday (both our day off) and noticed my name on a list. Then today I was on the list for starting back today, so somehow the list was changed! They send the email after everyone has logged off for the day plus don’t take people’s flex day off into consideration. Since I don’t log in on my days off (why would I?) it was a bit late to scramble this morning. Ugh!
Wishing us both luck tomorrow.
Sending luck right back to you!
Happy 18th Birthday to your son!
Happy 18th birthday to your son! He and my boyfriend share a birthday. ?
Happy 18th to your son!?
Happy 18th Birthday to your son lillyjo! That’s an important one! ????
Happy Birthday to your son and good luck tomorrow!
A landmark along with his graduation. Hope you all had a wonderful celebration.
Going into the office will be starting to get more regular from now on, just as the weather gets really cold! I don’t like WFH, but there are some advantages to commuting only as far as the lounge.
I’ll wear Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, I didn’t buy it in Seville, but it makes me think of visiting there last year.
But you’ll still work at home some of the time?
Starting this week in Un Air de Bretagne.
❤
As someone who never got picked During class races or any team event I am feeling a bit sorry for ambergris for not making the weekend list! Wearing Smoked Ambergris today. Not a breath of wind here today but not as cold as the weekend which started off at minus 7C.
How do you find Smoked Ambergris?
I love it as a note but threw out a different request for the LWP.
My ambergris list is short but perfumes I like that have it as a note so far (real or synthetic) are Guerlain Ambre Éternel, Rodin Bis, and Jorum Studios Nectary.
Rodin Bis and Nectary both have rose as a note, Nectary and Amber Éternel both peach, otherwise there’s remarkably little overlap in their scent profiles but I really like all three.
Another perfect day of summer weather! It doesn’t make up for all the icky rainy spring days we had, but it sure soothes the soul right now.
SOTD = back in Soivohle Dog Star Cologne.
It has been really lovely. But agree, not enough lovely to make up for March through May.
It sure was nice. I walked a 5K today!
SotD = Songes
Thank you to everyone who made the weekend poll so much fun. That’s got to be the world’s longest perfume lemming list.
Songes was mentioned as a favorite jasmine perfume so I’m wearing it today. It says tropical island vacation to me, not beachy coconut sunscreen, just warm sand and beautiful white flowers. 😀
Hope everyone gets out of Monday in good shape!
Songes is gorgeous!
why thank you, Jalapeno! I think so too. 😉
I have only two perfumes that warrant having the EDP and EDT. Songes is one and Chanel No. 5 is the other.
agree and agree! I love both versions of Songes and No. 5.
I have the EdP of Songes because a beautiful moon bottle came my way early on in my perfume obsession. If it had been the EdT I would be just as happy.
I love No. 5 EdP for myself and adore the EdT because my mum wore it when I was a child. So beautiful.
I love Songes…
. . . so do I! 🙂
I took today off work to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday with him. The main way we’re celebrating is simply not working on a Monday, eating “bad” foods, and relaxing all day. This morning we had Pilsbury cinnamon rolls for the first time in ages. Tonight will be pizza followed by brownies. Well, you only turn 37 during a pandemic once, right?
I’m wearing one of the perfumes he loves on me, Organza Indecence.
Looking forward to this week’s paintings, Robin. I love the one you featured today.
That sounds like an excellent pandemic birthday, and you do smell excellent to match!
Did you stick birthday candles in the cinnamon rolls? ?
Hehe no, but that would have been fun.
Is the icing on the cinnamon rolls still ridiculously good? Hope you both had a great day!
You know, it was less icing to bun ratio than I remembered, but it was still really tasty.
Hope it was a great birthday for him!
Sampling T-Rex today… I guess I wanted to try vacationing in the Cretaceous period?
I love it… Mind you one spray on my hand is taking over my entire life, this is Beast mode with a capital B, but it’s quite lovely still!
I’m really surprised as a lot of people said it straight-up smelt like BBQ, but the florals really jump out through the smoke and resins on me, and I loved the camphorous hit of bay leaf at the beginning.
I feel much the same about T-Rex, teebear. It is smoky and punch-in-the-nose-y but most of all it is just beautiful.
Hello my NST family! Its been a while. Since Covid and all of the craziness going on in the world, my heart has been heavy and life right now just hasn’t been easy. I hope that everyone is doing okay and are still remaining hopeful and doing their part to help make this world a better place. I know I have down here in Texas. But I know that self-care is a must, and being a part of this community makes my heart happy. I wish we all could just make this world a bit sweeter with our fragrances…lol.
Anyways, just missed you guys and wanted to post my SOTD: Jo Malone’s English Pear and Freesia.
Hope you all have a great week! 🙂
I wish perfume were the answer..
Sometimes perfume does make my day better, so I will settle for that.
Usually it does for me!
Good to see you back! ?
I think a lot of us are feeling similarly overwhelmed. Lots of love to you and happy to see you here whenever you feel up to checking in!
(waves) Hi! Good to see you. You smell nice (this is one of my many JM favorites).
Question: Is Perfume. com a legit website?
Thanks for the weekend fun!
It is. I have bought from them many times without any problems.
Second that
Wearing L’Artisan Timbuktu. This is my second sample. I remember not liking it that much the first time around but on this cool and wet day, it is really lovely.
Your post inspired me to give it another go on a humid day like today. Also enjoying it more than I did the first time round. Getting something jungly, like wet leaves and soil after the rain as well as the smokeyness.
Hey guys, we just need 15 more comments to the weekend poll to beat the record. I just made like 10 more comments. Someone help me out! Lol!
7 more!
Last I saw, the count was at 1.155!
Argh! That should be a comma! Time for new glasses. “1,155”.
Someone posted no. 1,155 and I posted no. 1,156. Our work is done!
thunderous applause rings out! 😀
?
Yay! We Rock!?
