The last Friday in May! Our community project for today: wear a perfume by The Different Company, Tauer Perfumes, Tokyo Milk, Tocca or Téo Cabanel, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter T.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Tauer Perfumes Rose Flash. I may add some Incense Flash later on.
Reminder: on 6/5, wear a perfume with osmanthus, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Friday! I went with Tauer’s L`Air du Desert Marocain from my friend Tama Blough’s bottle. This is one of my favorites from Andy, resinous and spicy.
Mr. SmokeyToes is home for today, we’re headed out for a four mile walk in a few. 🙂
Enjoy your walk…
Twins! Have a great walk.
That’s cool that you have Tama’s bottle, she was my scent twin in many ways. You smell wonderful, enjoy your walk!
I have a few of her bottles, they are beautiful mementos but I do get a little sad thinking she’s gone. 🙁
Yay for walking! I have moved up my walk time to 6:15 am to get my 3 miles in and be done at 7 am to avoid midday sun/heat and the day getting too busy w/ meetings, etc.
My sanity is due to walking and perfume…but maybe not in that order. 😉
I had a goal to walk 4 miles every day, but this week has been absolutely insanely busy.
And we had a nearly two-hour Zoom meeting today…. 😯
laddm is perfect.
I love a long walk, I think I’ll join you. There’s a two mile loop at the nature preserve, I’ll do it twice today. 😉
Nice! Have fun! We saw coyotes this morning. Pretty amazing so much wildlife is out and about!
thank you, SmokeyToes! It was a good walk. You’re right about the wildlife being out and about. The nature preserve was closed for a few months, it seems like the animals forgot how to be afraid of people.
I saw your post yesterday about the HR certification class you’ll soon be starting and wanted to wish you well. Which certification is your goal? I’m retired now but, back in the day, I was first a PHR, then an SPHR and also a CLRP. The certifications were worth all the blood, sweat and tears that went into achieving them, not only in terms of career goals but also depth of knowledge gained and lasting friendships (and opportunities to travel for wonderful combined conferences/vacations!). Good luck!
Hi Laila,
Thanks for the well-wishes! My goal is PHR. I’ve been in HR/Recruiting for nearly 20 years, current position for 15, and felt a little stale. I’m really looking forward to the new experience!
SmokeyToes,
I have my SPHR and SHRM-CP.
I found it very much worth it all theses years, especially in California.
Good for you!
apsara – Absolutely!
I’ve lived in New York and Florida, California is an extremely competitive employment market, in the best way.
You smelled wonderful of course and your walk sounds fun!
I wore Rose Flash yesterday, Robin! Today it’s Teo Cabanel Oha. Rose chypres have been my default lately (even more than usual).
Oh nice, we both wore Rose Flash yesterday, and I wore Oha on Wednesday.
Have you tried Tauer’s Un Rose Chypree? Gorgeous chypre/rose perfume.
One of my absolute FAVES!
Love Rose Chypree!
That was my scent of the day!
Almost-twins. Hope you are well Elisa!
Apart from raging anxiety, I am. Thank you <3
Yeah, I hear you. I am trying to make myself meditate every day but it is a real battle.
I’ve been saying that for two months, and yet each day marches by without me having done it.
Oha is lovely!
Excellent choice, Robin. 🙂 And lovely poppies on that pic.
Tauer Une Rose Chypree, a very relaxing, calm scent. Cinnamon rose.
Isn’t that a gorgeous shot?
I’ve loved your pics all week!
Yes it’s an amazing photo!
… yet another Tauer: Hyacinth and a Mechanic
Oh nice, I like that one.
You smell wonderful! We were almost twins today, but I’m worried I’m wearing my bottle of Hyacinth out — it’s been my spring go-to this year.
I went with Tauer’s LADDM. My decant has lasted years – a gorgeous and potent perfume.
Y’all have probably seen this, but I’ve had my head buried a bit this past week, so I just read it yesterday:
Coronacoaster
noun: The ups and downs of a pandemic. One day you’re loving your bubble, going for long walks, baking cakes and pottering in the garden, the next you’re crying, drinking gin for breakfast, eating party rings and missing people you don’t even like.
Funny and not funny at the same time. I don’t know if it was exacerbated by the isolation but teen suicides seem to be on the rise.
Not just teens, sadly. I’ve known 2 adults so far. Beyond sad, really. Tragic.
Oh no! We need to find better news!
Yes, indeed; I heard a local heart surgeon on the news the other day saying that heart transplants are actually up these days, and that is the reason why–more suicides. I was very shocked and saddened to hear that.
Oh that is so horrible.
Apt description for this word.
Can confirm about coronacoaster. It would be great if this could open up more discussions about mental health (especially in light of the suicide rate climbing as mentioned above), but I’m not sure it will.
My first thought at lockdown was all the folks suffering from addiction who lost in-person meetings. Terrible consequence.
I have a friend who is very active in AA and she said because there are so many meetings online now she actually has had more opportunities to ‘attend’ meetings than in the past. Yes. it’s not ‘in person’ but she was actually very satisfied with how much more contact and connection with others she had now in places that she probably would not visit physically, so it was working very well for her.
That’s wonderful. Glad it’s working out for her. And she gets to avoid what I hear is pretty bad coffee at those meetings. ?
I have family members who are therapists, a conversation and support around addiction and depression (and suicide) is long overdue.
I nearly lost my mother (twice) to suicide, it was so painful to see someone you love in so much pain, and struggling.
I’m so sorry SmokeyToes.
Thank you so much Jalapeno. 🙂
I think it has to – so many people are experiencing mental health issues related to all aspects of the pandemic, on an incredibly wide spectrum. At a minimum, who among us has not felt a pervading sense of deep unease and rising anxiety about the state of the world?
On a similar funny/not funny note, I highly recommend Hannah Gadsby’s new stand-up show on Netflix, “Douglas.” If you appreciated “Nanette” (which had me curled up with giggles and gasping in tears in about equal measure), you will appreciate this. It is less traumatic, but just as funny. There’s a bit more rage.
I will check this out. I loved Nanette…it was brilliant and gut-wrenching.
“missing people you don’t even like” <– it me! I don't understand this particular aspect of isolation at all.
But yeah, this whole thing is incredibly difficult on everyone's mental health. I sometimes think about how the Coronavirus is forcing the whole world to reckon with things only small, arguably marginalized groups have had to deal with in the past. Isolation and mental anguish are suddenly felt by huge swaths of people. Financial hardship, particularly brought upon by health issues, is suddenly widespread. I'm with missionista on this: I really hope this sparks all kinds of important discussions, but I don't know if it will.
Yeah I am definitely not missing people I don’t even like, smile, but I get people who just need human contact and the unliked will work better than nothing. I am fascinated by the fact that on a Zoom meeting I am much more able to deal with colleagues who in person I want to strangle. So that bit of distance isn’t a bad thing.
yah, gin for breakfast is 2020’s version of the green smoothie
my employer sent out an email yesterday describing the existing and new supports for mental health that are available to all staff.
thumbs up and agree with everyone’s concerns regarding mental health. It’s ok to take care of yourself first then share your strength, if you can, with others.
two contradictory little things that help me are
limiting my screen time whether it’s news, Netflix, or random scrolling
and relaxing for a few minutes each day with something fun on the internet, like NST!
Here’s a few from instagram I indulge in once in a while because they lift my spirits – bokifide, aolanow, asafeplaceinsideyourhead, heyamberrae, thecraftsessions, and for belly laughs I love squidthegriff, mytherapistsays and thelesliejordan
I just took a screenshot of the last paragraph! ?
yay! hope you find some things to smile about 😀
I just followed most everything on your list! Mytherapistsays is hilarious.
so very very funny! not ashamed to admit I’ve snorted tea out my nose because of mytherapistsays 😀
LOVE thelesliejordan! ?
well, $#&&&+, whatchy’all doin?
😀 gets me everytime
Oh my gosh I laughed so hard at that!
The Different Company Osmanthus and Divine Bergamote which makes for a lovely and uplifting combination.
Tea was Earl Grey d’Or and am in the process of making some Thé sur le Nil.
Lovely poppies again!
She is another regular photographer here 🙂
I started reading Persuasion this week and am reminded of how long and complex Austen’s sentences are. Sentences full of clauses and digressions and a paragraph long. It makes you realise how different the original written word is from the film version of ‘historical ‘ sounding speech. I love that such complexity requires slow , careful reading. So much reading these days …on screens…is scattershot, more like scanning text so it is great to have such an immersive experience.
Apparently Austen’s sentences have a unique order, in that she puts the essence of the sentence at the end of the phrase. This never struck me, but then again Dutch is structured differently.
Does that ring true to you?
Sue Birtwhistle mentions this in one of the interviews she did on the famous Pride and Prejudice series that she produced.
And I agree with you an screen reading, produces the attention span of gnat.
I did Persuasion for the Leaving Cert* more than 30 years ago now. The whole story really spoke to me and it remains a favourite. I like the elegant and ironic sentence structures. To me, early 19th century writing, despite the complexity, remains clear of thought and easy to read. As the century progresses, writers seem to sink into a swamp of their own verbosity, until around the 1890s. (Caveat: I am far from well-read).
*Certificate of completing secondary education in Ireland, 17-18-yr-olds.
I love reading comments from native speakers about Austen, my appreciation of the language is probably very different as I only started to learn English when I was around 11 years old, and it is very much not my first language.
“Prettier musings of high-wrought love and eternal constancy, could never have passed along the streets of Bath, than Anne was sporting with from Camden Place to Westgate Buildings. It was almost enough to spread purification and perfume all the way.”
Is probably my favourite ironic Austen quote.
Yes! She appreciates her heroines but mocks them gently at the same time. :^)
I had planned to wear Lonesome Rider because I’ve been having a love affair with it all year, but the temperature dropped very far overnight and so I instead went with the warming Au Coeur du Desert, which I actually prefer to LADDM.
Twins!
Twin–love Au Coeur…..
I tried Au Coeur recently and love it! You smell beautiful. 😀
You are smelling great!
I had every intention of wearing Alahiiiiine this morning, but with the humidity and stickiness the thought of putting on something so heavy would be headache inducing.
SOTD Chant d’Arômes
Had a nice walk into Central Park this morning, it rained over night and the park smelled wonderful, earthy mixed with floral. I wanted to bottle it up and wear it as my SOTD….
Robin, I started reading the second book in the Ferrante series. I love how she picks up exactly where she left off. I am so so happy to get my reading mojo back..
I am so glad you are enjoying it! I went through looooong reading deserts and always came back eventually — am reading like crazy now.
I so enjoy that smell in the park post rain. Yes! someone please bottle it. Hope to go our around noon today.
You smell lovely.
You smell wonderful!
Good morning and Happy FriYAY!
I was going to look for my little rollerballs of Tocca ‘fumes, but I have the attention span of a gnat right now….LOL
So I’m totally off topic in Britney Spears Fantasy. Quince and cupcakes and kiwi!
Ha, we are attention span twins Jada.
Well, I’m supposed to be drafting questions for discussion to be used following a film screening, and instead I am reading your comment–so joining you in gnat-levels of attention!
My replacement bottle arrived in the mail yesterday. I was expecting it to arrive either today or tomorrow but have 3 packages arriving today. Woke up in Chanel Jersey. Portia on Perfume Posse did a blog post on it yesterday and I pulled out a mostly evaporated decant and finished it. Didn’t really like it, there was something about it that made me dislike it. Was thinking of URV today but I will be at work and can’t wear anything that really screams the fact I am wearing perfume. Wearing the tiniest bit of Australia Couer du Desert. URV will probably be worn tomorrow.
Well, I am awash in Memo Italian Leather, boy were you correct Lucasi, it is FABULOUS. I love this. Enabler button to you.
Last nite I tried SMN Eau d’Espagne and SmokeyToes was correct in the ‘not suitable for office use ?, assessment and the nice powerful punch of leather. I hope to work with it and layer over some floral oils to see what I can create. This is a fun ol’school project.
Later today if I can quit smelling my wrists I will wear
Alahiiiiiiine by Teo Cabanel. I adore this one.
Finally it seems 3 great white Egrets came north with us via ‘Bertha’ and have perched on my fence following the creek to a larger body of water! They should find a good breakfast here.
Happy Weekend
and many prayers for justice and peace in Minneapolis. (if that’s ok to say)
White egrets, how lovely they must be to watch.
I haven’t sampled much from Memo but Italian Leather is on my to try list now, and I love the word awash in relation to perfume!
Heartfelt agreement with your last statement.
Happy weekend to you, too.
?
I’m not American, but your wishing for justice for that poor man only makes you a better person.
?
I should have answered this earlier. It is always ok to pray (aloud on NST) for peace and justice. Peace and justice, as concepts, are not things reasonable people would argue against.
BUT, it is not really ok to debate exactly what justice might look like…or what it means to anybody in particular.
?
Thanks for clarifying Robin!
I’ve seen egrets down in Maryland in the summer months. Once in a great while they get up my way.
I think it’d be wonderful as a base layered with florals, what a great idea! 🙂
I love egrets, they are such beautiful magical creatures. Seeing them is one of the things I miss about living in Florida.
We were so shocked!
Thanks, I will let you know which ones work.
Wishing for justice and peace also.
I’m wearing Alahine by Téo Cabanel and I didn’t even plan that.
This should have been my pick!
Smelling beautiful!
I love Alahine – took the cap off my bottle this morning to sniff, and decided it wasn’t the right thing for our weather today (warm and sticky). But you smell divine!
Thank you SheriG.
Hi twin!
You smell magical too.
The Different Company Sel de Vetiver.
Happy Friday, everyone!
We are house twins.
? We smell great!
Is it ok if I ask how your little dog is doing?
Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, his condition has worsened since yesterday. I think a decision has to be made soon.
I am so sorry. Big hugs to you.
I’m very sorry, wishing you lots of courage and wisdom!
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that.
I do love Sel et Vetiver, though.
So sorry pfl67. Big hugs.
I’m so very sorry. Sending you hugs.
Ugh that’s so hard, I’m sorry you have to deal with this.
So very sorry. Worst.
I’m really sorry PL67. ??
Hugs, and, like austenfan – courage and wisdom.
So very sorry pl67.
Such a sad situation, thinking of you.
Very sorry to hear this news.
So sorry for your sad news…sending love and light.
Sending you a hug of comfort; I’m so sorry things are not going well.
Hugs, perfumelover67. You’ve had a difficult time lately.
I’m so very sorry to hear the news perfumelover 67. Sending (a lot) of hugs to you. Spend some time snuggling and squish your furry baby.
Twins with you in TDC Sel de Vetiver! We smell fab.
I’m sorry to hear about your dog.
TDC Sel de Vetiver is great!
And I’m sorry about your dog.
You are a wonderful, loving mom and that perfume sounds uplifting. ?
I’m sorry about your pup. It’s always so heartbreaking at the end. Prayers and hugs to you and Yei.
Thank you all for your comforting words. They are very touching.
.
Very happy Friday, all! Looks like sunshine this weekend in NYC, so yay!
SOTD: Black Cashmere
New pup across the hall from me, a miniture Australian Shepherd, and only 9 weeks old. So cute but not so cute that he barks a good third of the day as they’re training him. Glad he produces only little yips and not loud barks. Nevertheless, it’s been enjoyable to be around him.
Black Cashmere! One of my most favorites and a puppy, all in one comment. Enjoy both 🙂
Well, I wanted something different this morning, so I dove into Mt. Sample and discovered a tiny vial of TDC Adjatay. It came on a bit overwhelmingly gardenia-ish at first, but settled fairly quickly into a very Hawaiian sort of monoi/frangipani/tiare kind of scent. Not really me, but pleasant in a tropical way. I’m not getting the castoreum or leather that some reviewers mention, and maybe it’s because I only dabbed lightly. Not sure I could stand to spray it – might knock me out!
It is a strong one, but I do get leather from it. It’s one of the few white florals that I like but sparingly!
You smell wonderful, it’s one of my top TDC scents!
I am trying two by Jeffrey Dame today and these are from his new line I think…Vanille Farfelue and JD Duality.
VF is mostly powdery aldehydes right now…hoping the vanilla shows up soon. Duality is a spicy floral so far and more pleasing to my nose off the bat.
To those I owe swaps and/or decants, I shall be packing up items tomorrow and hope to get them to post office by EOD tomorrow or Monday and will email tracking numbers when i do.??
Report back if the vanilla shows up.
Not really, Lillyjo…moving on to another sample… 😉
I love VF! But I love aldehydes, so…
Me, too!
Tauer Une Rose Chypree sample. Although I’m starting to regret it, wearing rose perfumes when it gets warmer and humid don’t always work for me. And it’s not as if it will wear off quickly. It’s still my favorite Tauer Rose.
This afternoon is already too humid and warm for Rose Flash…glad I put it on early.
I’m wearing Incense Rose by Tauer, which could have been my goth day scent as well. Very meditative.
That was my goth scent….love it. you smell great
Happy fruity Friday, wearing Tauer Orange Star! Still hot and sticky but we should be back to normal this weekend.
Same here! VERY sticky. Looks like thunder out there.
I started to wear Orange Star! You smell great!
I tried to wear one of my Tauer samples but none of them was to my liking, Theo Fennel was also not right. So i wore the great mossy chypre Pour La Belle today.
Came home to the boyfriend, who is cooking Ottolenghis eggplant risotto for dinner.
I seriously wish your boyfriend would take over the cooking in my house, tannina.
Eggplant risotto sounds amazing. Now I’m off to the interwebs to investigate…
I went with Tauer Carillon pour un ange, inspired by the lilies of the valley that are taking over a corner of my backyard.
For once, so many choices! Usually I’ve got nothing for the Friday challenge, but today between Tauer and The Different Company I’ve got an embarrassment of riches.
that perfume is a treasure, you smell heavenly.
A sample of Carillon recently came to me, I’m saving it for a day when I can enjoy every moment.
I’m in Tauerville Vetiver & Petitgrain. It’s a decant that seems to have some darker gold sludge that settles in the bottle, but readily combines to a milky gold color when I shake the decant. It seems to smell okay, but there’s a little touch of curry in this. Fragrantica says it’s a water based cooling spray, so I’m sure the lifespan is short.
Does anyone else own this, and have you seen this separation? Do you think it’s gone bad?
When perfumes go bad/off, they tend to smell similar to curry on me. Even if it’s just the top notes that are like that, I usually toss them because I can’t stand that off smell.
Thank you, therabbitsflower, I’m calling it. This one has turned. ?
I’m Friday Project ready!
Le Maroc Pour Elle.
elle est si belle! 😀
Beautiful scent.
No credit for me — I’m feeling like I’m being stalked by the grumpies, so I went with Carnal Flower to perk me up. I may switch over to Rose Flash if I’m feeling it later today.
Totally get those days–when the grumpies are hot on my heels. I see them and politely ask them to leave, but they insist on hanging about to ruffle feathers and generally stink up the joint.
ay yi yi, the grumpies were kicking me in the behind yesterday, just coming out of it today. Carnal Flower is an excellent choice. I hope your day brings you smiles.
SAME! Yesterday was a mess. Today I am laughing at the mess.
yay! better to laugh than, well, you know 😉
ay yi yi indeed!
😀
Twins, Robin! Rose Flash is so great. What will I do when my little rollerball is empty?
We just finished the first season of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever last night. What a great show. Super funny and touching, and I’ve got to say, as an Indian American who recently lost her father, the show hit surprisingly close to home, even though the main character is a teenager with high schooler concerns. Also, even though he plays a teenager, the actor portraying Paxton H-Y is almost my age, so it’s totally ok for me to think he’s hot.
Now I have to look this guy up, lol
Yes, actor is 29 so we can all agree it is ok to comment that his appearance is most satisfactory.?
Oh I keep meaning to watch that show. Thanks for the reminder. Also, I’ve been in and out and was aware when your father was sick but maybe missed when he died? Belated condolences. Such a very very difficult thing.
Thank you, Amy. He passed away last September. It’s been really hard, but honestly, I’m so relieved he isn’t going through chemo during this pandemic.
Yes, I cannot imagine dealing with chemo or any of a variety of other serious illness and treatments now. September seems both so near and so very far away.
That’s exactly how I feel about it. I can’t believe it’s been 2/3 of a year already. But also, I can barely remember what my emotional state was like back then.
Hey twin! I will have to google that show. I just started Lovesick, because the actor was in Emma and I was curious about him. Very un-pc, rather funny.
OMG I love Lovesick!!! It had rather a, uh, different name when I started watching it. Hilarious and delightful. I hope they come out with another season soon! (One of the actors was also in the Crown!)
Ha, yes, that name would not fly in the US I don’t think…
And meant to say, was also charmed that he did the theme song for Detectorists…love that show, loved the song.
?? twin! You smell great!
There’s at least 4 of us wearing Rose Flash today! ????
Listen, as a 43 year old, as long as they’re over 21 years old, I feel ok for thinking folks are hot. ?
I will have to check this out. Thanks for the recommendation!
Friday again.
I only have Tauer for today’s CP, and three heavy hitters at that. It’s supposed to be 88F and humid today and I just couldn’t face them, so I’m wearing Pacific Lime. Makes me feel cool even if I’m not.
You smell great 🙂 I’ve got travel sprays of a bunch of AC scents, but I missed out on that one, sadly. Maybe someday.
That’s a good one!
To borrow from AngelaB, I am awash in Theo Fennell Scent today, which I have only worn in the winter but a cool front came through last night and TF smells good at 65F, too. I had several Tauers lined up for this week but I got busy and forgot. Enjoy your weekend everyone 🙂
Lots of TDCs to choose from, but as it is cool and cloudy, I went with Theo Fennell. Which hits the spot nine times out of ten.
Happy Friday, folks!
Perfume: The Different Company Kashan Rose.
Tea: Twining’s Jasmine Green.
Good weather for Jasmine Green Tea! Are you drinking it iced?
I may make a bottle of it as iced tea. It’s the time of year when I want some caffeine in the morning, but don’t want a hot drink.
Ah, you smell great! Such a pretty summer rose.
Yes. 🙂 You’d sent me a sample/small decant of it — that’s what I sprayed from. 🙂 Thank you again for the cool samples you sent to add to my perfume education. 🙂
Happy Friday!
I commented above joining in the hopes for justice and peace in the country. My condolences to the family of Mr. Floyd.
I don’t like to confront people in real life, but at least with white people my age or younger, I need to make it clear every time that I don’t agree with racist and xenophobic comments. I’ve been conditioned too long to not contradict people of my parents’ generation. I freeze up around them. I get terribly tired of the assumption that since I’m white and gender-conforming, that I think it’s okay when someone makes racist, xenophobic, homophobic, etc. comments.
Wish I’d logged in sooner and worn LADDM. I’d be on point for CP and for weather. It’s warm and humid. Felt good to be out, though. Our neighborhood is back to its normal foot traffic.
But…I was running out to pick up our little old lady cat at the vet, so grabbed Fiori di Capri. Still love its soapy dry down.
We took Hallie in because she has been turning up her nose at food. So…they gave her fluids, B vitamins, some anti-nausea meds. And…decided to do a shot of antibiotics. Vet did a quick ultrasound before doing a urine sample to make sure a prior infection was gone and saw a mass in her bladder. ? May be a blood clot from infection but likely not something that innocuous. Decided not to do any urine tests, since she got the antibiotic shot.
I’m sorry to hear this about Hallie and hope she starts to feel better.
Hoping for a good outcome for Hallie.
Hoping your kitty has a good outcome.
Oh no, poor kitty. I hope she will feel better soon.
I am so sorry! I wish Hallie the best. Hugs!
Oh no I am so sorry! I hope it turns out to be something manageable.
Oh no, poor girl. Wishing you both the best.
Sending love to your kitty! They’re so difficult to diagnose sometimes… last time one of ours went to the vet for acute vomiting we spent $1k in testing and the results were that we got some anti-emetics and a recommendation to feed her easily digestible food – which she turned her nose up at ?
Best wishes that your Hallie feels better soon regardless of what the testing says!!
Sending positive thoughts your way for kitty, hoping for a good outcome.
Fingers crossed that your sweet kitty is feeling better ASAP!
Hoping it’s innocuous…
Sorry about your Hallie. Hopefully, she’ll feel better soon and so will you. ?
I’m sorry about Hallie and I hope the antibiotics make her feel better. Do they suspect TCC? That’s what Bertie has, and it was found the same way.
Oh, I hope Hallie feels better soon, and that it’s not as bad as it sounds.
Tokyo Milk Crushed for me today which is green and grassy and quite a good fit for warm humid weather
Am in TDC’s Limon de Cordoza, which I got through a swap, at the time unsniffed. It has a funky, bitter edge that I really like. I can’t recall who sent it to me, but it was definitely a generous NSTer.
That sounds very summery…
Twins! love that bitter Edge. Put “Bergamote” on the other arm to compare side by side. Prefer Limon.
Oh that is interesting. I have been wondering about TDC’s Bergamote. Limon is lovely. One in a similar vein that I also really like is Arquiste’s L’Etrog (NOT L’Etrog Acqua—which I disliked!) And of course the Hermes, Eau d’Orange Verte.
Don’t know the Arquiste line at all, and of course also have Eau de Orange Vert! Bergamote is good and to my nose very similar to Limon, but less bitter in the dry down.
Love the poppies picture!
SOTD = Tauer Lonesome Rider (8) and Tom Ford Lost Cherry (1)
On theme plus some creative ? pairing.

In other news which I am still trying to make sense of, I heard that Costco will begin to offer food for taste-testing again sometime in June. I absolutely applaud not providing service nor allowing people who are not wearing masks to buy things (it’s a membership after all, not the general public, and even then, there’s a public safety edict in force), but to offer food I think really runs contrary to the stance Costco has taken regarding face masks. Rant over.
Unbelievable! I have always been very cautious about taste-testing food. And now I think I will never feel comfortable doing it again. Time will say…
I’m pretty sure no taste testing for me in the foreseeable future. When masks are required or recommended, no food will touch my lips…I have yet to decide whether or not I will be comfortable dining out somewhere…will have to start somewhere local and not any fast food chain.
If everyone is wearing masks, how is anyone going to taste the food?
Exactly and if they do, fingers and hands will be dirty for pulling down the mask and pulling it back up, repeat ad nauseum.
Wait. Eight sprays of Lonesome Rider?!?! Whoa.
8 is my minimum these days. I added the one spritz if Lost Cherry so it wasn’t as potent.
Yeah, I saw that story about Costco and food samples and thought “NOPE!”. It’s been kind of nice not having to dodge that particular obstacle. How are they going to do social distancing with that???
The answer is NOT unless they’re also showcasing social distancing culinary tools ?
Haha… I’m picturing six foot long tongs, handing out samples.
Six foot long forks with VERY pointy tines?
Yeah, weaponized serving utensils in case the populace gets too close.
Seriously though, this does not bode well. I am surprised.
I love Lost Cherry..I wish it lasted longer. Nonetheless, I hope they do a travel size.
I usta live across the st from a Sam’s Club and loved sampling lol. I would nearly be a regular for a while lol. Would get a cheap soda and sample up lol. Hey I had a membership, why not put it to full use? Lol. Their pizza was cheap too. I would occasionally buy things they gave as samples..around Thanksgiving was a samplepalooza:).
Lost Cherry has nuclear lasting power on me! And about 2x a year (and now probably never again), I’ve indulged in the all beef hotdog ? that comes with a fountain drink for under $2!
Lordy mercy (as my Granny would say), you sure do smell good!
Thanks!

Been missing out on posting this week, but I’ve been enjoying CP perfumes all week:
Monday: Téo Cabanel Alahine
Tuesday: TDC I Miss Violet
Wednesday: TokyoMilk Honey and the Moon
Thursday: Tauer Rose Flash
Friday: Tocca Stella
I almost never see anyone wearing Tocca Stella (usually it’s Stella McCartney), but I think it’s great. It’s juicy blood orange and bitter orange with floral undertones and white musk. I need to dig out my sample of Cap Neroli to compare with Stella because when I tried CN last summer, it smelled really similar to Stella. Need to do a side by side to see if that holds true.
My heart is heavy today, and I’ve got an anxiety pit in my stomach. I will not go into details or say anything political, but the state of things in this country (USA) makes me incredibly sad and hopeless. Also, no need to try and say cheerful things, though I appreciate the intention behind it. I’ve felt this way increasingly for a while now. I wonder, as someone in their late 30s, what else I will see and experience in my lifetime. Sorry to be sad and dark, but that’s the reality of life sometimes.
I am glad that this short work week went by quickly and that the weekend is upon us again.
Was up from about 3 -5:30 AM with a pain and tension in the pit of my stomach. I have cut back on my levels of US-based news consumption, but what little I do watch packs a punch. These last couple of days have been very hard.
Yes, they have. I’ve also cut my news consumption lately, but it feels too complacent to fully turn away from it right now. However, I should not check Twitter too early in the day. I’m super distracted from the work I need to get some today.
Get done today, not get some today
Big hugs to you, TRF. These are truly tough times to be human.
Thanks, She-ra. They sure are. Hugs to you too!
At twice your age, I share your feelings…cycles of pain, reminders of both the best and worst of humanity.
I join you in these feelings. It’s a hard fight everyday.
I have a sample of Stella, I’m going to try it later. Sounds good.
Stella is still going strong on me many hours later. Hope you enjoy it. I owe you an email – will get back to you over the weekend.
I have Stella body cream, it’s lovely.
Today I learned a new word from Le Monde Diplomatique’s June headlines: kakistocracy.
Derived from two Greek words, kakistos (worst) and kratos (power), kakistocracy signifies « government by the worst ». It was invented in the 17th century to describe the political ascension of the least qualified or the least scrupulous individuals. So this is not a new phenomenon unfortunately. The good news is that four centuries later we are still here. Perhaps there is hope.
Oh. Great. I’m torn between amusement and despair.
Mmm Stella body products sound nice.
Oh, not surprised at all that word was invented back then. History is pretty bleak. I’m not sure the planet will be hospitable for four more centuries, so there’s that.
I’m in a better mood tonight at least. Had a little therapeutic cry while singing a meaningful song, which helped. And had a nice Webex meetup with people in my department at work.
I am right there with you therabbitsflower. Older so the despair likely has a slightly different flavor, but it is not good.
I am so with you, trf. Every time I read the headlines, this horrible thing spreads through my body. I’ve been on the verge of tears a lot lately as I have read the news. You’d think we could at least take a break from this sort of thing during a pandemic, no?
That would sure be nice if the only bad thing going on was the pandemic. And I tell myself it’s ok to cry when I read terrible things. Experiencing sadness to the point of tears is a perfectly normal reaction.
Hi, twin! I posted below and didn’t read your post until now but my comments almost exactly mirrored yours. Also sending a hug of comfort your way, I think it’s important to acknowledge and recognize the sad and dark feelings we sometimes experience.
Wow, yes we had really similar things to say about Stella. I’m glad you’re a fan too. I bought my bottle pretty early in my fall down the perfume rabbit hole. And thank you for the comforting virtual hug!
My daily Rosary Brigade helps – that’s one hour less of reading the news AND last night, even though it is not COVID-related, we added the recent events / violence to the prayer list.
I’m happy you’ve found an outlet and a way to avoid the news. I need to find something else to focus on.
I had a Tocca shower gel ages ago, and I’m pretty sure it was Stella. I remember enjoying it. I think I’ll have to seek out some more…
In the middle of a global pandemic and an ongoing period of socio-political tension: it’s a perfectly reasonable time to feel anxiety. It *is* sad and dark. Just don’t give in to hopelessness!!! Take the sadness, the concern, and channel it in some way—however small—into whatever you think is the ‘opposite’, or the ‘solution’. ✊???
I do have Stella on a list I made for shower gels I’d like to try. I bet it really blooms in the shower.
And you’re right! I will give in to hopelessness for hours at a time, but I really try not to let it get me for days. I made a donation at the end of the work day and did it through my work’s matching program, so that helped me feel a little more like part of the solution today.
Glad you had that encouraging experience today. Really, I think that, in a nutshell, is the way for us to get through this: (1) Feel the sadness/fear/despair and get it out and then (2) do some small thing that is a positive, for someone else or for yourself.
I feel you on the state of things and feeling anxious. Hugs. You have smelled great this week.
Thanks, Kelly. Hug back to you.
Sorry you’re down. As someone posted earlier, it’s the coronacoaster.
I’m in my mid-40s and my dark thoughts have been: I’m grateful I’m in the generation I’m in, cause I’ve had a good run with lots of amazing experiences, the future doesn’t feel bright but it might just limp along until I’m outta here. So I feel for those younger than me.
Sorry, not an uplifting response. Just saying: you’re not alone.
Thanks, I’m very much with you in similar thoughts. And I’m the kind of person who would rather look at the world realistically, than with rose colored glasses on. I can acknowledge that the future doesn’t feel bright but also enjoy my day to day life – my amazing partner, friends, perfume, delicious food, etc.
And you’re not alone either!
Tauer PHI. This is so gorgeous but never quite feels like “me”. Wish It came in a small size!
Grades are in. There will probably be some sad, desperate emails still to contend with, but it’s a step toward the end of this whimpering semester.
He sells 5ml minis of it on his website. He’s not shipping to the US right now due to Covid restrictions, but when things open up again you can order one. 🙂
*whispers* there are 5 ml minis of PHI out there, I want one someday! 😀
Really?!! Oh, goodie! Maybe I’ll find one someday, too.
What cazaubon and tiffanie said although I think he just opened up for shipping in the U.S. The other alternative is I can swap you for a donation to an organization that supports feeding the hungry. U. S. only. We can discuss via email – just click on my name for contact info.
SOTD is Tocca Stella, the fragrance that taught me how much I love blood orange as a fragrance note – blood orange and bitter orange are my favorite citrus notes and Stella has them both in abundance. I smell just a little bit of floral but mostly it’s a woodsy orange on me. If you have a favorite scent with a prominent blood orange note, please do tell!
Until today it’s been a hot, humid rather miserable week here saved only by my beautiful lilacs, finally in bloom! I cut many and their fragrance has filled my home, and harmonious person that I am, I have indulged in all my favorite fragrances all week featuring lilac or a lilac note – CM Lilac, EL Pleasures, Annie Oakley Morning Dew, Pacifica French Lilac, and my very favorite, YR Pur Desir de Lilas, the essence of this beautiful flower, spicy and green.
On this beautiful morning, cool and sunny weather returned, and I was making breakfast and watching/listening to Josh Groban Movie Night #4 on YouTube since I’d missed it the night before and it was only available for a limited time. Not to be outdone by Josh (who never fails to give me chills down my spine whatever he sings ❤️), the little wren busily making his nest directly outside my kitchen window paused intermittently in his work to sing exuberantly, sometimes seemingly in harmony with Josh. Beautiful – and surreal -moments to start my weekend.
So, to start your weekend off on a beautiful note, here’s Josh’s newest song, Your Face, a song of hope written to help us through these difficult days. Wishing all a wonderful weekend ahead! Stay safe, stay well, stay hopeful!
https://youtu.be/iCbY-P1xttE
I too love Pur Desir de Lilas, it is so pretty. Enjoy your fragrant home.
I just wish the lilacs lasted longer!
I’ve been loving the lilacs too! As for best blood orange scent, mine is i Profumi di Pantelleria Dammuso. I layer it over the Stella body cream for extra oomph.
I’ll have to try that one. Thank you.
Pacifica’s Tuscan Blood Orange would be my pick. I *loved* it in body butter form, but the cute little rollerball of EdP is also pretty darn good.
Yes, this is another favorite of mine, love the raspberry in this.
SotD = Tauerville Tuberose Flash
Beautiful flower photo up top today, wow wow wow.
I’m on a tuberose kick, so it was easy to board the Tauer Love Train this morning.
I love tuberose all the time and especially in the spring. My neighborhood smells of magnolias, honeysuckle, gardenias, and my pink jasmine – which surprised me with an extra bloom this week. The smell in the air is narcotic, intoxicating, delicious.
Looking forward to reading everyone’s choices today. I always learn something from you.
Have a fantastic FriYAY, fragrant friends. 😀 Enough already, let’s kick this week to the curb.
How wonderful about the scented neighborhood.
the scent is strong in this neighborhood 😀 also smelled orange blossoms today, I feel very lucky for this small gift from nature.
Week is kicked. 😉
I would recommend Solstice Scents Nightgown for tuberose…notes are Vanilla, White Chocolate, Tuberose & Tiare Flowers…it’s quite dreamy.
OMG that sounds great! We will have a long sniff/chat this fall about Solstice Scents. 🙂
Indeed, I have tons of samples to give you and then I can make samples from FBs of the ones that had enough vanilla too. 😉
omg, thank you for the suggestion. Nightgown sounds incredible. I adore all those smells, can’t decide if I want to smell Nightgown or eat it 😀
and the name is perfect, I often crave Jardins de Bagatelle and other tuberose scents late at night.
the idea of vanilla + tuberose is so intoxicating I had to try it. I sprayed a little Vanilla Flash over Tuberose Flash, and it’s pretty nice!
Yes, this one comes in oil and EDP format. Generally I prefer EDP sprays but this one I think I might prefer in the oil which comes in a rollerball. They sell all their fragrances in samples and/or sample sprays too so you don’t have to commit to a full size which is nice. I have FB of Vanilla Flash and a sample of Tuberose Flash somewhere and will try this combo out. 🙂
My gardenias aren’t blooming yet! Granted, it’s a new plant, but it’s got a ton of buds but none have opened. I’m hoping for the best! My jasmine is blooming though!
I’ve had a bad back the last couple of days, some quite painful spasms, I’m using medication from a similar complaint last year. I think it was cleaning the windows that triggers it.
Partial credit in The Crown Perfumery Crown Rose which smells very opulent.
Oh no! I hope you start feeling better soon! ?
Thank you very much, hopefully in a few days.
I hope your back feels better soon!
Thank you Lillyjo.
Back pain is awful. Hope you get relief quickly!
Thank you Amy, painkillers help.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you Cazaubon, it’s
going to be a weekend on my bed.
So sorry, feel better soon <3
Than you Koyel, I hope to be functioning by Monday.
Hope you feel better soon; rest as much as possible and take it real easy. I’ve been where you are and it’s definitely not fun.
Thank you I had forgotten how crippling it can be.
Ouch, hopefully it’s short lived.
Thank you, it is rather spoiling the weekend (sigh)
Boo hiss on your bad back! I quite literally feel your pain today… I had to take some Advil in the middle of the night for the same reason. I hope that you are feeling better very soon.
We’re twins with bad backs.
ow ow ow, so sorry, Aurora. I hope you find relief quickly.
Thank you Tiffanie, I am on medication but mobility is limited.
SOTD–so hard to pick from my vast array of Tauer’s (which I love), but finally spritzed Au Couer du Desert and I smell really good.
therabbitsflower has it right, it has been a hard week for our country and prayers are not enough. But, we press on….
You smell very good indeed!
Agree with pressing on, albeit sadly.
You smell super great.
I’m not on board the Tauer train, but instead wearing Tocca Florence. I bought it ages ago and this was a good excuse to get out the bottle and revisit it. (Nice bottle too.) A very endearing citrus and green gardenia, which fits nicely into my recent penchant for pretty florals. I’m going to make a very simple supper with BBQ chicken breasts with mango and some German potato salad.
Like many others I’m saddened and disturbed by recent events and circumstances. I am cutting back on social media participation. I only want to look at cute kitten pictures and not political posts. Recently I’ve been invited to write an essay on Camus’s The Plague. I said I have to re-read it before deciding. I know I read it in college but have almost no memory of it. This should be an interesting project and it’s good to have something constructive to do in my own small way.
Stunning and disquieting novel. I read it at school years ago.
It is an interesting dilemma, whether to lean into the moment and really try to think about it, or whether we — I should say I — are too much in it and need a respite. Curious where you land.
I leaned into it for the past three months, now I’m ready for a respite.
I hear you. I am at the point where for the most part I don’t want to hear from anyone but widely respected epidemiologists. I can’t really take the world of op-eds and “thoughts about the pandemic.” That said, I get if if there are people who are using their difference sets of skills and expertise to think about aspects of our current situation other than the public health.
Exactly this.
Just not me! Ha.
YES to looking at cute kitten pictures! And to that end, I’ve been clicking on a website called “Emergency Kitten”. Plenty of adorable fuzzballs there.
Emergency Kitten! 😀 so cute, thank you for sharing =^..^=
Can I come over for dinner?
Wearing I Miss Violet, which I love, but it is very humid and thick and I wish I had something with a little more bite to it on. Will likely take a shower and shift in a bit.
I ended up in Carthusia Mediterraneo by the end of the day for just that reason.
The warmest day of the week is not that warm, but wearing warm-weather Fig Tea anyway
Oh yum!
Noontide petals for me this long (Queen’s Birthday) weekend. Now that the trees are bare I am able to spot clumps of native mistletoe – like bright green tangled balls, some with yellow – in the upper branches as I wander slowly through the graveyard.
Robin…glad your holly is blooming at last.
You smell wonderful!
🙂
Scent twins with Robin in Tauerville Rose Flash. This does smell like LUSH’s Rose Jam shower gel! ???
Grody weather here today… my trip taking out the kitchen trash was a hot and sweaty one. Too humid! I think the saga of our roof replacement might be over… I saw guys putting up the new gutters and downspouts earlier today. I won’t miss that crazy hustle and bustle one bit. Neither will the cats. ??
I really need more Rose Jam shower gel. Something so uplifting about it.
There is something uplifting about Rose Jam. But I will soon start using a Korres Fig shower gel for summer.
I broke down and turned in the AC … 70 to start and when it got cold enough, hold temp at 72 – ahhhh.
Aaargh, turned ON
Temp got up to 75 this afternoon before the dinnertime program clicked on. Amazing how much difference a single degree F can make.
Twins! Woot! ? ??on your new roof.
All the crazy started last week. I think everyone is finished as of this afternoon. Just in time, too, since thunderstorms might roll in sometime tonight.
Sounds like it was finished just in time. Whew!
Glad for you it’s done with.
Smelling marvelous today!
Very late, but hey twin!! Sorry we are twins in weather too, blech. Straight from winter to summer again, with too little spring to notice…
Winter is really settling in now after a glorious autumn, so I can’t really complain that it’s dull and cold this morning.
I’ll claim partial credit for a brand I’d never heard of until I got the fabulous bag of samples from Scentspirit – Tobali. Iron Wind is actually quite light, but the name signals that I’m starting the day with determination and focus 🙂
Iron Wind, that’s a good perfume name 😀
No points for Eau d’ Hadrien..only craving short lived lemons this week I guess. Just a perfect citrus. And I am not a citrus person.
I don’t have motivation this week at all. Today is another day of that. I think of all the things I should be doing..then I just say screw it. ? Then I get bummed that I didn’t do anything lol. Maybe when my town opens I will feel better..but then there will still be a sense of caution and uncertainty. One thing that never changes, chocolate. I hope to visit Ethel M choco factory when things open..as a treat for my soul lol.
Having some Citrus Sunrise tea to match my citrus perfume.
High again of 106-108 lol. Not exactly sunbathing weather. Lol.
Just layered Saturday over the Annick not bad. I smell lovely.
Please have a lemon cream for me at Ethel M! Those are the best.
I shall have more than one! Lol
Ethel M used to make some absolutely wonderful chocolate truffles. Wonder if they still do? ??
i will have to find out:)
Ethel M, hmm, what is this of which you speak? a chocolate shop I’ve never heard of! I’ve been jonesing hard for some See’s, now I want BOTH. 😀
See’s for the win! I’ve always said I would take See’s over Godiva any day of the week.
You smelled great today.
Thanks!
Tocca Gia, a pleasant rose-vanilla, over a rose body lotion.
I hope everyone finds a way to rest a little this weekend.
that sounds so pretty! I love the Tocca bottles. 😀
Haven’t tried Gia, that sounds nice.
Happy Friday, NST!
CP SOTD is Tauerville Rose Flash. Robin, I think this is the first time I’ve ever been twins with you—yay!?
I had to resort to a tiny spritz of the RF in body lotion to manage wearing it in today’s weather. It’s day 2 of 3 in a row under an excessive heat warning; the forecast high is 107°-110°. That and I’m personally on day 4 of a sinus headache marathon. …But, hey, I smell alright.??
Have yourselves a good one, all!?
Hiya scent twin! Sorry to hear about your sinus headache. Do you have/use a neti pot?
I do, although I have a squeeze bottle version instead of a pot. It’s definitely helpful. In this case, I’m not really congested. The culprit is a back-and-forth between high and low pressure systems moving into the area—and the pain is in my forehead and behind my one eye, which feels like it’s trying to escape my skull. I’ve been using my dry-eye thermal compress, which does the trick. …So, PSA: those compresses are multipurpose!?
Are you missing baseball as much as I am??
Good grief, YES!!! The live stuff, that is. I don’t know what your TV situation is, but between my local Fox Sports channel and MLB Network, I haven’t had the need to go to YouTube yet. ESPN has even been showing some KBO games. ?? (The bonus of the Fox Sports games, is that they’re all games the D-backs won!?)
I’ve been pretty much sticking to the special past games the White Sox have been showing on YouTube in their #Soxrematch series – each game premieres on a given day and time. I’ll usually wear a Sox T-shirt in keeping with the theme of the game or whoever is the hero of that featured game – I have quite a collection after years of attending games – and somehow knowing that other fans are watching at that specific time gives me that sense of connection I enjoy so much.
Oh, good—that sounds fun. (Also, I now feel less weird about the fact that I always feel like I need another shirt.☺️) I’m enjoying Derek Jeter Weekend on MLB right now.
Goodness! Do you mind me asking what area you live in? It’s been a scorcher here this week too but not that bad. I also greatly miss sports, for the record.
I’m in Tucson. It’s ~3,000ft lower than you—if I’m remembering your town correctly—so that’s part of the reason. I’m just glad I don’t live in Phoenix. Or Yuma…or Lake Havasu… (No offense to you, my fellow AZ cities.) ?
And we were nearly a club today!
A small—therefore exclusive, therefore very cool—club.?
No credit in EldO Vierges et Toreros but I don’t have any T brands anyway, and I love it in hot weather.
Wearing the right thing is more important than credit 🙂
SOTD for me is Tokyo Milk Dark Bulletproof. It has a gorgeous smokey note other tea scents I like don’t pull off as well
Super late today, but smelling great in SSS Equestrian. Have a spectacular and safe weekend all! ✌?
Full credit in Tokyo Milk Dark Tainted Love. I layered it with BBW Praline and Pear to make it cozy.
The humidity here has moved on (sorry eastern friends!) Turned off the air conditioning.
Good for you on the lack of humidity. Growing up in the Deep South, I didn’t even realize I’d suffered with that humidity my whole like until I moved away! ?
Yeah your humidity came out to join mine here today. UGH! Thank heavens for iced tea!
Yesterday was in Tocca Brigitte and today in my fav Tocca, Colette. Colette is a great pool-side scent, I think. I have a small splash bottle but will probably get a FB when it runs out. My friend is out of town again so I went to check on her plants for her. Rewarded myself with two hours of relaxing by her pool. ?
I have so many T’s that fit this week I think I’ll keep them going over the weekend!
Got some swap goodies in, as well as some goodies from a split. This is such a wonderful community. Those packages made my whole week, for real! Hugs and love to all.
I went to the Tocca website, to look up Stella. They give a 20 percent discount fir email sign up!
No credit, wearing Dior Feve Delicieuse. I keep hearing that it is being discontinued. Hope not, but these days if I love something I always buy a back up 😉
Have been wearing TDC/Duchafour’s “I miss Violet” every day since I got it. I’m addicted. Just got a bub in the mail yesterday. I like it much, much better than Goutal’s “La Violette.” La Violette on me is just intense spicy violet leaf with half of a violet petal peeking out in the first minute & zero rose. It lasts an hour tops on my skin. For $200/bottle, I need much more. ImV isn’t a powerhouse, but lasts ~6 hrs and the suede/iris drydown is heavenly…the whole experience of that scent is bliss.
