Happy Tuesday, plus happy International Nurses Day (which marks Florence Nightingale's birthday, and is the end of Nurse's Week, which started on National Nurses Day last week). What fragrance are you wearing?
By pure chance I'm in The Different Company I Miss Violet, which I'd nearly forgotten.
Reminder: 5/15 is the International Day of Families. Name your favorite fragrance family, and wear one or more fragrances in that family, OR, make up your own fragrance family (like, say, wood pudding), define it for us, and wear the best example of that family.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Belgium. Group of French and American nurses having afternoon tea, February 1918, from the American National Red Cross photograph collection at the Library of Congress.
Micallef Denis Durand Couture… this is turning out to be rose week. 🙂
Beautiful fragrance in a beautiful bottle.
Shalimar
Off to do my Italian lesson online. Ti auguro un giorno bellissimo
Ahh, beloved Shalimar. Have fun with the online lesson!
I was reading on BDJ blog that she doesn’t consider Shalimar an oriental perfume (oriental is my theme this week)
It augurs a beautiful day?
I think it means ‘I wish you a beautiful/lovely day’. 🙂
Exactly !
Grazie mille!
Di niente ❤️
LTSG, not sure if you will see this question so far beyond your post date, but are your lessons in-person ones to at have gone remote, or is your instruction always online? I would like to keep working on Italian, have exhausted my local resources, and find that with no structure I am just treading water with review of the basics. If you have a lead for good online instruction that you can share, I would love to learn more.
Ciao!
Yes I am going them online,
Is this something you are interested in?
*doing
Yes, I am interested. If you want to PM me it is kwelsh nine nine nine (those numbers as numerals) in gee mayle.
Olène, my second BWF this week. Although I think La Haie is more of a yellow white floral.
Olène is nice, very nice.
Pretty!
You smell great!
Twins, one day apart, it’s a lovely choice.
I think I read about it on here yesterday and that made me decide to wear it today. Probably your post.
St Clair Scents LE spring release Song of Aubrac
This is a very random comment but one of my favourite breeds of cow is the Aubrac Cow. It’s one of those animals that pays great attention to its eye make up.
Narcissus absolute is grown largely in the Aubrac region of France and this is the note that is showcased in this fragrance. Now I am curious about those ? ? ?.
http://www.action-agricole-picarde.com/actualites/la-race-aubrac-mise-a-l-honneur-par-bovins-croissance:E0WBG6SU.html
This article features a nice picture of them.
Aww ? those cows are wonderful!
They are so cute!
They are beautiful!!!!!
They are so elegant and unusual, thank you for teaching me something today ?
I loves cows but cows wearing eyeshadow are extra special!
Ooh, house twins! I can’t wait to find out your thoughts about these two new ones as I know you’re a huge fan of the house!
Well, hello there, stranger!
Nice to be ? ? with you.
Diane thinks it’s her best creation yet and I have to agree because she really does a stellar job showcasing the beauty of narcissus. I am not sure it’s a fragrance for someone who doesn’t care for the note, but if you do, definitely give it a try ( there’s ambergris tincture and Indian sandalwood in it too!!!!!).
I just ordered samples of the two new ones and they’re being shipped now. Hurray! I also bought the travel size of Eve, which I can’t stop sniffing–about to empty out my sample!
????
Enabler pins for you from me!!!!
?♀️I tried it yesterday!
I love narcissus scents and after reading this it sounded like I really had to get a sample of the ? scent and they make it too easy to do a transaction on the St Clair website, Apple Pay, free shipping and all. Sample is on its way… ?
Pharoah’s Passion sounds nice. 17 dollars for 2 mls is a bit outta my budget though.
Free shipping…
Lilacs are in full bloom in my area. Amazing and intoxicating!!!
I think I will do a lilac family week. I am starting with Frederic Malle En Passant. I wish it lasted longer, so fleeting, but I will reapply during the day.
Cold, sunny day! Out later to enjoy a walk.
Happy Tuesday!
I seem to be sending my weather to you! That’s what I had yesterday.? enjoy your walk!
Keep sending the good weather here. But keep the rain or send it somewhere else! ????
Oh I am so envious of you and the lilacs. Where I went to college (in Michigan) one year my dorm room looked out onto a courtyard that was all lined in lilacs, and once it warmed up and we could open the windows, the smell was heavenly! That’s something from spring in the north that I miss badly. I also went to visit a lilac farm once in Massachusetts when I lived there. There must have been a hundred varieties and all kinds of colors and shades from white to deep dark purple. Again, heavenly! I think only the smell of a lot of roses and, around here, our hedges of gardenias and jasmine, can compete!
There are many lilac trees in my neighborhood, which I love and enjoy. But I love to go to the botanical gardens during lilac season because it is my favorite flowering tree. I love the variety of flowers and the smell. I hope next year the gardens are open to the public again. I really miss visiting them this spring season.
This! Missed the lilacs and the wisteria completely.
Wisterias are also big favorites of mine! We are missing so many beautiful things this year.
What lovely memories; lilacs smell soon great.
soooooooo great
not soon, autocorrect
I find that En Passant doesn’t last long on me either.
It is frustrating because it is a great scent!
Lilacs are the first (and really only) flowers with a strong scent that grow in the part of western Canada where I grew up. The smell of lilacs is the scent of late spring to me.
The smell of lilacs are like aromatherapy for me. It is so relaxing to take walks outside and smell the scent almost continuously around here. I am always looking forward to the end of spring to enjoy them!
mmmm, En Passant is lovely. You smell like spring. 😀
Thank you!?
Envious of your blooming lilacs! None at all in my neighborhood.
Hopefully, it will not take too long for them to bloom in your area.
There might be some in older neighborhoods in the area, but the newer ones (neighborhoods) are sadly lacking in lilac loveliness.
I’m wearing Carner Barcelona Tardes for the first time. There is something that I don’t like about it. Maybe the heliotrope?
What about it don’t you like? A slight vanilla ?(that’s what heliotrope smells like to me…and I love it) or maybe doll’s head?
I got a strong tobacco note from Tardes. It may have just been me since I haven’t seen anyone mention it. I do like tobacco in some perfumes but not Tardes.
Hi all, SOTD is Nikki de st Phalle, with orris root, ylang ylang, amber, galbanum, narcissus, and jasmine. In my top five scents for spring.
Happy International Nurses day to the nurses out there! You guys rock. My mom was an R.N., who started as a triage nurse in the 1960’s, Bed-Stuy, NYC, and ended her career as a Hospice nurse (in FL) taking care of AIDS patients back in the early 1980’s.
Three cheers and a generous glass of champagne for all the nurses! My mom was a nurse, too, who became a nurse practitioner later in her career. She was the fiercest badass I ever knew, *and* she wore Nikki de St Phalle from time to time, which is the most challenging perfume I’ve ever smelled. I keep a wee bottle on hand, and re-smell it from time to time, and every time just think, “*WHAT???*”
Cheers to your mom!
Yes, interesting when we smell a perfume our family members wore – it gives me the opportunity to understand a different part of them….
My mom was one of those ‘bad ass’ nurses as well.
Holy cannoli!! Nurse in Bed-Stuy?? Wow!! Your mom sounds like an amazing woman.
Oh wow,I can just imagine the heartbreak your Mom witnessed at the Hospice at the start of the Aids pandemic. What a time in history.
XO
The experience was everything, heartbreak, amazing, and transformative.
As a teen, it solidified my belief in volunteering and social justice causes.
Niki is a great spring scent, one of my top green scents
What an amazing career, thank you for sharing.
And of course, thank you to all the nurses here and elsewhere!
Niki de Saint Phalle is one of the scents that I wish I would have known about back in the day.
I would have lived to hear your mom’s stories!
Her stories were pretty amazing and inspiring. I was fortunate to tag along for the visits.
Happy Internation Nurses Day too all nurses reading this.
I am wearing a vintage scent today – Fidji EDT. This old-chool green floral is just what I wanted today.
Blast from the past! Fidji was a favorite!
You smell wonderful! My mom used to wear that one when I was a kid.
Hi lovely NST gang! I’ve so missed having the opportunity to join you here – between work and taking on a lot of volunteering I have had no time off for a couple of months eek! I hope you are all feeling like you’re adjusting well to the changes that we have all faced, no matter what that looks like for you at any given moment.
So! Today I’ll be testing St. Clair Scents Pharoah’s Passion so we’ll see how that goes. Yesterday I experienced my first wearing of Song of Aubrac which is a lovely very rich and deep honeyed narcissus on me – I feel that it has a vintage style similar to her last three. I do love narcissus in perfume, and have always wondered why it’s such a rarity. When I get the chance, I want to pull out all my St. Clair Scents samples again – so many things to smell and experience and get to and so little time, ya know? That being said, I feel incredibly grateful and lucky to have such an embarrassment of riches and I hope that I don’t take any of the blessings in my life for granted.
Happy International Nurses Day to all my fellow nurses and happy Tuesday to everyone who is here and doing their best. I hope you’re all being gentle with yourselves and acknowledging and appreciating all that you do. Sending love and hugs out to you all!
Happy Nurses Day!!???
Thank you, sweetheart! I hope it’s been a good one for you!
Happy Nurses day to you too! Glad you are enjoying your St Clair Scents samplings!! Have you tried Eve or Pandora yet?
Thank you!
Yep, I tried Eve and Pandora when they first came out but then set them aside for another time. And well, we all know how that can go. I’ll pull those and all the other St. Clair Scents samples out for a dedicated session when I can.
How do you like Pharaoh’s Passion? I’ve got a sample coming! Glad to hear from you.
Thank you! I like Pharaoh’s Passion a lot, but I prefer Song of Aubrac because I’m a big fan of narcissus. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Happy Nurses Day and I miss you!
Aw, thank you! I miss you too!
Happy Nurses Day Holly! It’s good to see your post!
Thank you!
Hiya Holly! So good to see you posting! ?
Hi there! Thank you!
Love and hugs back, Holly!
Thank you, I appreciate that so much!
Hugs and massive thank yous!
Good morning Y’all!
Was in my usual last minute rush, so I sprayed Bath and Body Works Bora Bora Citrus Surf and kept running…..leaves the gate smelling like an orange Lifesaver candy, then fades to nothingness in about an hour…. 🙂
Smelly alert: In an effort to do my part to keep the economy going, I saw that Yves Rocher has their seasonal perfume on the US site for $19! Hello Printemps is rhubarb, blackcurrant leaves, and citrus. Yep…I bought it. Pondering why the name is 1/2 English and 1/2 French? Anyhoo, happy to support them and smell yet another new goody….
Orange lifesaver made me laugh!
Cristalle EDT for me today.
Lovely green perfume! 😀
Lovely! You smell great!
SOTD: Rance Triomphe
Rance perfumes are lovely, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a mention of this brand. 🙂
I’m using a Rance soap at the moment called Magnolia Royal. I wish it were a perfume or at least a lotion. Powdery lemon, a little sweet…so soft and pretty for bedtime.
Continuing my week of as many Leathers as I can manage with Knize Ten.
I know I have a sample of Piguet Bandit around here, but it wasn’t where I expected it to be, so I will need to root through all the bins and boxes later, because now is going to irritate me until I find it.
MONDAY: Chanel Cuir de Russie, Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, Memo Moroccan Leather
You are off and running!
I love leathers — cannot have too many!
UPDATE: Now I have J.F. Schwarzlove Berlin’s Leder 6 on left wrist, Molinard Cuir on right. These are by no means identical but still feel similar.
Leder 6 has more vanilla and incense, definitely not too sweet. If you find Cuir Velours too sweet like I do, give this a try. For me, at the price, not needed.
Molinard starts with more citrus, has an overall more floral/herbaceous feel, and dries down warm and woody.
In other news: I just made a killer potato leek soup. I’m stuffed. I still wanna go back for more… ?
I’m in Narciso Poudree for musk day 2. Really like this one. I’m at work today and just not feelin’ it. Is it Friday yet??
It’s almost almost almost Friday 🙂
Hyacinth and a Mechanic… continuing my tradition of falling in love with Tauer scents after they’ve gone out of production. SIGH I really should just stop trying them!
ARGH, the heartbreak of discontinued perfume love.
Sometimes they do come back around!
Its my birthday! ?
SotD is L’âme perdue.
My husband gifted me slippers ( wool on inside, suede on outside), they look like something my grandma had?? but they are sooooo comfy. The perfect lockdown gift ?
And my parents paid me a surprise visit. They stayed outside, of course, waved to me, sang happy birthday and left a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Happy birthday! It looks like you have a lovely family who still made your birthday special despite the lockdown.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday ???????????
Gelukkige Verjaarsdag!!
Ik hoop jy verstaan dat wel!!
A bit of Dutch-Afrikaans,wishing Jiji a Happy Birthday!!
?????✌?
Jazeker ?
Baie dankie
(Thats how you say thank you right?
I dont speak Afrikaans at all, but long time ago I read something about Boerboel dogs and I learned a word…or two… ?)
Haha!Fantasties! We can have a “secret language” on NST!lol!
I also don’t speak Dutch that well, but I understand the dialect.Second generation South African.
Baie Dankie is indeed Thank You!
???
Boerboels always reminded me of the dogs with heads the size of clocks in a children’s book. Was it the Phantom Tollbooth? The Watchdog of that book doesn’t sound right, though.
Haha,Boerboels are adorable beasts.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! One more year of wisdom added!
How lovely that your parents paid you a visit!
Hope you had a good day and I’m sure your next birthday will be celebrated in better circumstances.
Happy birthday!!!

Happy birthday Jiji!
Happy Scented Birthday Wishes, Jiji! ????
So glad it was a wonderful birthday!
Happy Biryhday Jiji! Glad you got to celebrate a bit. The slippers sound comfy. Granny chic is right up my alley! ?
Happy birthday! I have slippers like that, too, and they’ve become my everyday footwear now that I’m WFH every day.
Happy birthday a day late!
Happy International Nurses Day,to all my colleagues from around the world!!
I hope you are treated well where you work, and that you know you are appreciated, and a superstar!
I am not sure of ALL the Nurses on NST,But shout-out to Deva,ElisaP,Holly, and CM8’s daughter!
I think Mals86 also has a daughter in Nursing school,or already practicing?
SOTD!!
Copious amounts of J’Adore,my beloved vintage formula.
Again:Orchestral!!Lol!
Happy Tuesday friends!

You’re still more than welcome to whatsapp me though.
Happy Tuesday!
Baci!?
Baci!
Ciao bello ???
? ?
We will never adequately thank nurses, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
Wearing a little dab of the original Miss Dior today. Working on getting together with a friend on Friday.
Good morning, y’all! For the Too Rare Not to Wear project, I’m in White Linen parfum spray, from a .18oz spray bottle that was probably a freebie with a FB. The top notes are gone, but I love the dry notes that are left. Off to fragrantica to figure out what I’m smelling.
Tea of the day is Rishi Masala chai, very good with just the right amount of pepper and no star anise. Just like I want it.
Happy International Nurse’s day to the nurses out there. My mom was a NICU nurse, and she rocked at her job. She saved some very sick babies in her time. I remember the stories. We found out things at her memorial service that we never knew. She was known for having other nurses backs when they were in stressful situations. They said this about her…”You could always count on Joanie. She could start an IV on a dead roach.” I know that’s gross, posting it anyway. Love you, Mom! ❤️❤️
That’s a hilarious comment! Ew but sweet!
I debated whether to post that or not, but then said…hey, why not?
Oh my, it’s so special to hear nice stories about your parents, isn’t it! Makes you even more proud of them.
Yes, it was so nice! We only know our parents as parents, but they have a whole separate life at work. She was pretty special.
The dead roach comment is horrifying and also wonderful. What a great (and seriously unique) tribute to your mom!
I know it’s bad. I know I need to take it down a notch, but couldn’t resist. ?
Priceless ?
Nurses have an earthy sense of humor. ?
That comment is the best comment a nurse can get, I would think! LOL LOVE IT!!!!!
I agree! We heard some war stories around the dinner table over the years.
I got a good laugh about that IV comment, as creepy as it is! And on a serious note, people who do that well have my utmost respect. A bad stick is a horrible thing…
Ha! Love that little anecdote about your mom ?
My husband is good with IVs that way. He’s the go to where he works. I’ll have to tell him thst one ?
It’s a great simile that I think can be adapted to other activities. Consider it stolen!
Ha, such great phrasing. I’ll have to share it with my nurse Mom. I’m sure it’ll get a laugh!
Home office Tuesday again.
I had a call with our fragrance supplier at 4 PM today (I normally finish at 4) so I slept in longer and started later in order to consider that time still as a working hour.
Wearing Mona di Orio Amyitis today.
Good news – my bottle of Amouage Love Mimosa arrived!
OH you got it! How wonderful! Is that yellow as pretty in person as it looks in the pictures?
Yes! A super cute bottle that is perfect for photos
Woo hoo!
🙂 wink wink
About time:) enjoy
Thank you
Congratulations on your new bottle!
Thanks Holly
A big thank you to all the lovely nurses that I’ve known over the years. Most are/were bad-ass and wonderful.
I’m doing a family called “cheapies with attitude”.
As I may not be able to post daily, these will include:
Covet
Si Lolita
LL Fleur de Corail
JLo Deseo
Silk Way
Agent Provocateur Original
They’re just all distinctive and quirky and not conventionally pretty.
A great scent family
2nd that, and also great picks!
3rding!
Two roses for today: Ramon Monegal l’eau de Rose and Ex Nihilo Rose Hubris. I really like the Rose Hubris, but I would never pay what a bottle costs. The other is just fruity and soapy.
Maybe I’ll keep doing roses all week?
Rose perfumes are lovely for spring.
Hooray for all nurses!! Aren’t we all so lucky you chose this very hard and very underpaid profession with your hearts…
I’m wearing The Dark Side from Francesca Bianchi from a try me first sample. It’s warm and lovely, not too much honey and a little campfire. Certainly not too dark. More medium brown than black.
I must say, during lockdown I’m more perfume greedy than ever. I will defend this (to myself) with the claim I’m helping the economy. But where will this ever end??
Lol at perfume greedy! I keep trying to buy perfume but my indecisiveness keeps hindering me.
Oh, that indecisiveness!! I’ve recently sent perfume (with a good discount) unopened back, and now I want it….
Good luck on finding your new gem!!
Oh, your last paragraph is totally me over the last six weeks.
Twisted Lily has a promotion now for 30% off! They have quite a lot of nice things including some sample sets from Amouage and other items from Montale, Monegal, and a few from Memo. Lots of things are listed as “e-mail when available” but I would think/hope that the 30% might still hold. You could always ask.
Enabler

??
(In the best possible way ?)
I saw that email! I put a couple of things in a basket this morning. But I just now deleted it. ?
Today I’m wearing Narcisco for Her in the Pink Cube shaped bottle.
Is that the Poudree? I can’t keep them straight, but I’m sure you smell lovely.
Our weather has pivoted from 90 degree days to chilly drizzle. This morning I ended an on-again-off-again relationship that’s been part of my life for 13 years, and that’s been a casualty of the quarantine (among, of course, other factors). I’m wearing AG Le Chevrefeuille to cheer myself up, and to remind myself that there’s warmth sunshine and comfort in the future.
Cheer up and keep going! Life is beautiful despite the difficulties. Sending hugs! ??
That sounds really hard.
Sending hugs.Trust me,I know exactly what you are going through.???
On/off relationships can be incredibly draining. I wish you renewed energy?
Hugs to you. I hope your scent brings you comfort.
Roller coaster relationships are very hard. I know this very well. I hope you can find some peace of mind soon. Take care, Isabella!
From 90 degrees to chilly drizzle is quite the swing! I hope you are indulging in comforting things right now.
Wishing you strength Isabella! And you do smell just right, love that one.
I am wearing Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee. This scent is an absolute love for me — very soothing.
That one is so, so pretty. You smell great today.
1932 EDT today…feeling grumpy and tired today…will have a 2nd cup of coffee and cross my fingers.???
Hmm.. you can’t be grumpy when you wearing vanilla perfume, perhaps a switch?
Le Labo Labdanum!
Yesterday Calypso mentioned being able to do a whole month of Serge Lutens perfumes, so I started trying to recall which ones I have in some format (sample, decant, bottle). I could probably do every weekday for a month. And this morning, again, I couldn’t pinpoint what I felt like wearing. Went over to a couple shelves of decants and almost immediately settled on Chergui. I haven’t worn this in so long! It is so strong that I only sprayed my arms, not my neck.
I think I’ve decided that this week’s fragrance family will be NSFW perfumes, and Chergui is definitely one of them because of its potency.
Chergui is in my collection too, but it began to bug me the last time I wore it. Something in it set me on edge.
NSFW perfumes! that’s wonderful 😀
Fantastic theme!
I thought about doing a carnation week, but then I decided to weed out some of the decants by doing “Scents I should like but don’t.” It is their last chance to impress me, or into the swap box they go. Today is
Feminite du Bois. I like the notes but it needs more oomph.
My aunt was a surgical nurse in the 50s-80s. She used to tell us stories about surgeons having tantrums and throwing instruments and making mistakes. Happy International Nurse’s Day!
I might have asked you previously, but a list of carnation perfumes worth seeking out would be AWESOME,if you have time?
??
I don’t remember you asking for a list before, I’m happy to oblige. These are only the ones I know, there are lots more I haven’t smelled, and unfortunately these might be hard for you to get. I should mention I like my carnations strong and clove-y. I like vintage Bellodgia, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Oeillets Rouges, vintage Nina Ricci L’air du Temps, vintage Crabtree & Evelyn Carnation, Prada Infusion d’Oeillet, and Villoresi Garofano.
Thanks so much, but yes, apart from the Ricci, the others might be difficult to sample,I shall investigate further!????
The Black Narcissus blog has a great post on Carnation perfumes.
Thank you,is that Neil’s blog?
Yes, it’s Neil’s blog.
Scent: I’m in Chanel Paris – Deauville from a sample that came in the mail yesterday. I ordered samples of the original 3 from the Les Eaux de Chanel collection last week, and they came early. Yay! The need for something new got the better of me. So, Deauville. I wasn’t really attracted to this when I first tried it in a store, but once I got past some kind of ‘not a basil fan’ rule in my head, it’s actually very enjoyable.
Tea: Ahmad Tea Blackcurrant Infusion
Have a good day, everyone!
I love basil and have not yet tried any of those….so behind!
I went with Calligraphy Saffron, because it’s still cold and I need a cuddly scent. Maybe ‘cuddly’ is also a scent family. I will continue cuddly this week I think because of the cold snap
Cuddly is absolutely a family!
Today I’m wearing TF Cafe Rose. Apparently this is in the Chypre Floral family. I would not have guessed it to be a chypre.
It’s cool and sunny here today ?
To all the Nurses here, Thank You for all that you do!
Cool and sunny here too, word on the street is up to 80 next week!?
We will get those 80’s on Sunday here. Yay! Let’s enjoy it! ??
I just checked my extended forecast, I might see 78 next Tuesday. Woohoo!
Yes, surprising, I would have thought oriental, anyway it’s great.
ITA with Aurora on TF Cafe Rose… I’d call it an Oriental.
I goofed and did not manage to do my inappropriate/out of sync theme…I wore Pink for my morning bike ride (nearly ran over a chipmunk, it was traumatic for both of us!). Then home for a shower with violet soap and jasmine shampoo, and now wearing Penhaligon’s Lily of the Valley, 7 sprays, perfect for spring.
LotV is so pretty!
What’s with the critters lately? 😀 Last week I almost collided with a squirrel while riding my bike. There are so few cars out and about that I’ve been riding down the middle of the quiet residential streets. A squirrel had the same idea I guess. We both survived our near collision, LOL.
Eek! I’m glad you and the chipmunk were both OK.
Yikes on that chipmunk near-miss!
It’s an amazing project: a local professional photographer on a mission to take portraits for all 500 seniors in his daughters school. “Not forgotten — the Yorktown Seniors of 2020.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/an-inspired-photographer-a-disrupted-senior-class-and-500-portraits-that-capture-what-they-lost/2020/04/23/ce3a5ace-84ad-11ea-a3eb-e9fc93160703_story.html
awesome! 😀
Brilliant! I love this ?
Thank you so much for that link! That is my good news of the day.
I think this week’s theme is “non-binary perfume.”
Wearing EldO Vierges et Toreros today and just received in the mail an early bday present from my mom of Kiehl’s Original Musk, which I sprayed to test on the back of my hand. It’s quite simple but nice!
I seem to like perfumes that play somewhere in between the easily classifiable feminine and masculine categories.
somewhere in between is a wonderful perfume sweet spot. 😀 I like those too. Kiehl’s OM is a good one.
That ELDO’s on my Leather To Do list this week!
Continuing my project of non-stewed-fruit Serge perfumes, I’m in the musky cool incense of L’Orpheline. It’s one of my favorites from him.
I am jealous of your collection of SL perfumes
What a great family idea. Which other ones are non-fruit? I’ve tried Vetiver Oriental, which is too powdery for me.
I’m in Bas de Soie today, which I love. Continuing Iris Week, I think!
You will see more in the next three days, haha!
Today is a chypre floral as chosen as a category by Lillyjo, but I’ doing different families everyday. F. Milk or Crepe de Chime EDT (the extrait is in the fridge). It’s very smooth and thankfully well preserved.
Chypre florals are unicorn fragrances now… almost impossible to find in their old-school form.
To all nurses on NAT and everywhere heartfelt thank you?
NST autocorrect again.
🙂
Three CHEERS for all the nurses!
Iris is my fragrance family and coincidentally, the 2nd week in a row.
SOTD = Jorum Studio Trimerous
Well-done iris or orris as the perfumer prefers.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CAGMwOPBzFM/?igshid=3ge4tnav51r3
Jorum Studio perfumes are now available state side from LuckyScent and Indigo Perfumery. My goal is to eventually own at least 15 mLs of every perfume from this house but I am carefully looking for ways to practice my black belt shopping skillz ?.
In other news, I showed a co-worker Billy Bob 2.0 and left him sitting kitteh-corner from me. I got so distracted by how beautiful he is that I had to move him back to his normal location in the living room. Picture to come as I have to unhooky.
BB 2.0 is a good looking kitteh. 😉
Thank you. Here’s the newest picture:

I love iris week. I’ve been craving No 19 but can’t find my little decant. May have to go FB.
I recently sampled some of the Jorum Studio scents, including Trimerous. I only have a dab sample but surprisingly didn’t love it. I thought it would be a slam dunk.
Oh wow, maybe better sprayed? It does have a tobacco / hay note.
Your Insta pix have wonderful composition and color balance.
Thank you ☺️
I’m continuing “perfumes that smell like California” week in Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors. Its story is set in the San Joaquin Valley. One of the notes is “orchard dust” and before I tried it, I thought “whatever, that’s just the perfumer trying to be cute” but it really does have a note that smells like a California almond grove on a warm day.
Thank you so much to all of you amazing nurses, and please pass my thanks to your colleagues. I was thinking of the hospice nurses I met when my mother-in-law was dying, and just how much grace, skill and compassion they extended both to her and also to her family. I pray for everyone working in health care right now, and extend my deepest gratitude. You nurses are incredible!
orchard dust sounds wonderful! I’m taking note of your choices this week. 😀
SotD = CB I Hate Perfume Tea Rose Water Perfume
Very pretty and delicate rose scent from a very very old sample!
I spent a little time yesterday culling the sample herd. Some had evaporated, some I used up long ago then kept as a reference (I guess). It felt good to toss those. Others went into groups – love it, try it again, give aways. The give aways will go to my neighbor’s preteen daughter who loves perfume, just like her mama.
A few weeks ago I mentioned I had a bottle of Vol de Nuit edt with a broken sprayer. I dropped it and the sprayer bent when it hit the hard floor. Better than broken glass I guess.
Yesterday I realized the sprayer had separated into two pieces, which is why the bottle was evaporating. When I pulled off the top of the sprayer, the bottom part inside the bottle fell away, leaving the top open. I poured some of it into an empty atomizer, but there was still a lot of perfume left, so I covered the bottle with parafilm.
I remembered I had an old old old empty bottle of Roger & Gallet cologne. I had a hunch that I would be able to get the sprayer off that one without breaking it. I used pliers to twist the metal collar off the sprayer, then used the flat edge of a screwdriver to pry the crimped edge of the sprayer off the bottle. It came away in one piece, yay!
I cleaned the sprayer and bottle with water then alcohol, let it air dry overnight, and this morning it smelled neutral. I poured the rest of the Vol de Nuit in the old bottle, crimped the sprayer back on top, reset the collar around the sprayer, and voila! Perfume saved. It smells fine. 😀
I’d rather have one bottle rather than a lot of little decants. I think it worked out because the old empty bottle held a light cologne, any traces won’t compete with Vol de Nuit.
That’s my happy-making for this Tuesday-bluesday. Time to get back to work now.
Thank you to the nurses who work so hard to keep us healthy! You are wonderful. Hugs to all.
How clever and great smelling you are Tiffanie! I think Vol de Nuit is worth your efforts.
oh, thank you, Petunia 😀 I love VdN, so even though the bottle was half gone and wasn’t expensive to begin with, it was fun to give it a go.
I’m so glad you were able to rescue the juice! VdN is wonderful. Enjoy it!
haha! a perfume rescue 😀 made me smile.
Is this called McGyvering, in a sense? ?. Good job you!
I felt like McGyver for sure. 😀 the job took nerves of steel, a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and electrical tape (to seal up the refilled bottle)!
A very late good morning, I’m at work in the lounge, but taking a moment of slow connectivity to say that I’m wearing a spray of Fragonard’s Ile d’Amour. It’s got an aquatic note that doesn’t appeal to me, but it’s part of my lockdown project to wear everything I have once!
I applaud you on your project!
Today is package delivery day. The Chewy.com cat food order showed up just fine, but I’m still waiting for another package from another business. ?⌚
SOTD = Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. It is also a lavender fragrance, but not as close to the Mon Guerlain as I thought. The MG EdT is greener and more herbal than the Brit Rhythm, which is a “warmer” and muskier fragrance. Also, Brit Rhythm lasts all day on me.
I am waiting on several packages as well. Everything is taking a bit longer but at least it’s an option.
Both packages now present and accounted for!
Adding a belated Thank You to all nurses. One of my college friends ended up getting a degree in that field, as did someone I went to junior high with. I think about them a lot lately.
Could it be the amount applied re: BBRFH lasting longer than Mon Guerlain EDT?
I’ve sprayed the same amount for both perfumes with each wearing. It’s either Mon Guerlain just fades sooner on me, or maybe I am experiencing some scent fatigue with it. But the longevity of Mon Guerlain isn’t terrible on me. And I could see a shorter “hang time” with a perfume being an asset in the hot and muggy summer.
I’m wearing a couple of dabs of AG Ambre Fetiche parfum. I forget how rich and long lasting this one is – I always end up asking myself later in the day, “What is it that smells so good?” and it’s me!
Yes, it is you!
Ambre Fetiche is a powerhouse in the EdP… it must be a monster in parfum concentration!
Just a quick pop in to say hi and thanks to all the nurses here!
Kiss Me Intense. Goes well with PB&J.
Ha, I bet it does!
I still haven’t decided on a theme. Maybe my theme will be whimsy.
SOTD was Chanel Beige for another colder than usual day.
Adding my appreciation for nurses. I’ve always thought of them as angels among us.
I haven’t decided on a theme either.
I like whimsy!
Reading too quick and thought for a sec that you said whiney, and I thought no that’s my theme of the week 😉
?
Thank you, nurses!
CdG Avignon yesterday — seemed like a pretty realistic incense perfume to me. It struck me as smoky in a good way. 🙂
Today: SL Encens et Lavande. I like this one a lot, too.
I found CdG Avignon to be a photorealistic church incense. One of my friends who isn’t into perfume had that same reaction, too.
It’s been so hard for me to pop in to post lately, so better late, and I enjoy catching up on comments to decompress at night.
I wore Stora Skugan Fantome de Maul today and Au Coeur du Desert yesterday which garnered a compliment from my coworker who said she thought she had the same perfume at home, and I told her I doubted that ?. Such a perfume snob I am! She’s not a perfumista but likes patchouli oil and musk (doesn’t like florals so note to self not to overspray those). She also liked my Lush What Would Love Do solid and took down the name. I’ll have to gift her something now that I know what she likes.
Good to see you posting, no matter what time it is. Someone is usually lurking around here. ?
We’re happy to see you. 🙂 I’m usually putting on a bedtime perfume around midnight or one, and sometimes make a very late comment about it at the time.
I’m glad reading the comments helps you to decompress. 🙂 Some of the folks here say very funny things, and others remind me that we’re all stressed in our own ways. I’ll read that someone had a meltdown or burst out crying that day, and think, “Hey, it’s not just me.” Around the world, we’re having a lot of feelings. Whether a comment makes me laugh or empathize, I feel like it’s a connection to the world.
Hermes Myrrhe Eglantine. I didn’t put on very much, but so far I love it. Will give it a more rigorous test tomorrow.
Yum.
