The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 8 May 2020 15 Comments

Cire Trudon's latest candle: "At the base of the High Atlas Mountains, the Ourika Valley is where it flourishes: iris thrives on sun and an essentially pure rural life. La Belle Matière Ourika marries a floral head note composed of gardenia, rose and magnolia with the spicy notes of benzoin and pink peppercorns to highlight iris’ sensual and powdery nature." $115.

I will admit that I love candles but $115 for a candle, I will have to pass.

I will say that the CT Salta candle makes me so happy that if I ever splurge on a candle (this one was a gift), it will be from CT — they know what they’re doing. But yes, $115 is a lot for a candle.

Here is Kevin’s review of Salta:

I adore a good candle and this would be my first purchase but at that price, it’d have to be a combined Birthday/Anniversary/Christmas gift! 😀

Okay– memory lane: When I was about 20, a long long time ago, I managed to find a place in Marrakesh to rent me a car, which turned out to be older than I was. The car was a stick, and the stick was up near the dashboard,, which made it extra difficult–somehow I coddled that thing high up into the Atlas mountains (high, of course being relative–we felt like we were high in the mountains–I have not idea how high we actually were) on a single track road. I had two others travelers with me, no recollection now of how we met or who they were. It was so gorgeous–the greens, yellows, reds and browns, and the blue blue sky. It was one of those days where you keep thinking, I have to remember this. . . if I live!

Probably the candle won’t live up, eh?

Whenever I see CT candles on sale, I try to buy one no matter the scent. The ones I have at the moment are Ernesto and Maduraii. I picked up the latter during that Saks (I think it was Saks) 25% off sale. Salta sounds amazing.

How cool is that! No, this will not live up.

I own a fair number of candles by now, but so far haven’t bought any Cire Trudons. They are very pricy and apparently I’m not willing to spend that amount of money on a candle (yet). I probably will at some point. I know Kevin really appreciates the Trudon candles.

The Salta is my favorite candle ever. My 2nd favorite is the much cheaper Papier d’Armenie limited edition Armenie year one, by Francis Kurkdjian. I will not buy Diptyque any more, I’ve had very bad luck with them.

But I don’t buy many candles overall.

I love candles and am currently burning a Jo Malone, which has barely any throw, so I’m hesitant to pay big bucks for another candle – although it is one splurge I indulge in. May have to consider Salta.

Well, I pulled the trigger on Salta, as I had a 10% off coupon from Candle Delirium (it’s code SFE777 if anyone wants it).

Whoops, meant I got “Balmoral” because I am longing for summer.

This sounds wonderful, but I finally made up my mind to get an Abd El Khader, and I’m sticking to it.

While it’s even less affordable than the candles, I love the idea of this Cire Trudon wax diffuser that allows you to enjoy different fragrances:

    https://www.amazon.com/Cire-Trudon-Promeneuse-Wax-Diffuser/dp/B01N2GTII9/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&qid=1588974465&sr=8-5&srs=19979986011

Refills are $40 for 4 wax cameos.

    (No affiliation. Sigh.)

Oh my word, that’s a tad pricey for a candle – & there was me having a whinge the other day about the cost of Halfeti Leather! I walked past the CT shop in Marylebone when I was in London a couple of years ago – gorgeous looking place – didn’t have time to go in, unfortunately, but it may be on my list for a long-planned visit in November, if indeed travel is feasible by then.
