Happy Friday and happy Arbor Day! Our community project for today: wear a perfume by Santa Maria Novella, Sonoma Scent Studio, Smell Bent, S-Perfumes or Strange Invisible Perfumes if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter S.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in the discontinued Sonoma Scent Studio Vintage Rose.
Reminder: 5/1 is May Day! Don't forget to rabbit rabbit rabbit, and wear the fragrance that sent you down the rabbit hole. (I think someone suggested this project, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

No points for me. In Shalimar. Hey, its starts with an “S”
Cold and rainy here..wearing a knitted vest and some warm socks.
My Italian lesson went well last night. My neighbor dropped off a Sanpellegrino aranciata rossa soda by more door in a plastic zip lock bag and a little note for a good lesson. The kindness of others.
Buon giorno! What a nice gift from your neighbor.
Buongiorno!
It was so nice to escape for 1.5 hours into an “Italian world”
I think I was walking on air when I finished, just nice to get a break from the kids, Mr L, and have this time all to myself!
Hey! Io sono italiana
Quando vuoi fare due chiacchiere volentieri! Si parla di profumi of course! ?
Certo!
Hey partial credit.!
You smell intoxicating.
What a sweet gesture!
You smelled so good today!
Later I will be wearing Smell Bent Dead of Winter.
But I’m currently still enjoying the far drydown of a new sample of CdG Kyoto – one I had tried long ago, just after falling down the rabbit hole and thought it strange. Now it’s beautiful and serene, an old wooden box in the attic filled with forgotten mementos from faraway lands.
I love Kyoto, it’s so soothing.
I need to get my nose on Kyoto one of these days.
Dead of Winter is so much fun!
Such a lovely description; I’m also a Kyoto fan.
Boy does that sound enchanting and a great way to lose yourself for an entire day!
On point with Slumberhouse New Sibet today, and seem to have been wearing small-S-company scents all week, including St Clair’s Eve and Frost and Strangelove NYC’s silence the sea.
Sitting by the window on a bright blue sky spring day, watching a magpie and a squirrel argue about territory. There are worse ways to spend a friday afternoon.
(p.s. hi! long time, no comment.)
Hi there my friend! How are you? Ha! I could have worn one of Diane’s masterpieces today! Maybe some First Cut or Casablanca later.
madame marzipan! hello! happy to answer: well, thanks! After a long period where the answer would have involved changing the subject. Ugh.
(and it’s always a pleasure to wear one of Diane’s beautiful perfumes)
Glad things are looking up! I’ve missed seeing you here and elsewhere ?
Glad to hear things are better for you. Love your choice of scent!
I love New Sibet. I’ve got my eye on a bottle but it’s not really an everyday scent and so expensive… still it’s a work of art that I would hate to never get to experience again.
hurrah for New Sibet! I thought it would be an occasional wear, but it’s turned into quite a staple for me.
Hi crikey, nice to “see” you! Strangelove NYC’s silence the sea just might get the award today for the perfect S fragrance.
hey sp! all those Ss, and it was entirely coincidental. As I eke out the tiny dab of this oil that I have…
Nice to see you here.
Thanks. Missed it/you all
Hello up there!
hello! I was thinking about you the other day as I was standing by Sylvia Stewart’s sculpture Oweho (that travelled from your water of leith to mine.)
https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/edinburgh-stone-relocated
There was a lot of controversy over the original placement of the sculpture because it was squeezed into a space by a fence, so you couldn’t move around it. Now it is in a good spot in the university by the Leith. There is another Edinburgh stone up on the hill where I walk…and that has a nice view. Hope life is treating you well!
https://hocken.recollect.co.nz/nodes/view/22558
This is the earlier Edinburgh stone which is part of the SIgnal Hill monument that is on top of the hill overlooking Dunedin …worth googling the monument if you are interested
You smell funky, cool, and amazing. I wore New Sibet earlier this week myself!
Hi there!
Such fun, watching nature!
Vintage Rose was tweaked into Rose Volupe which is gorgeous. I was one of Laurie Erickson’s testers for that one.
While I adore SSS I am not wearing any today. My Melograno has been thunked so SMN is out.
I’ve been doing a Jo Malone marathon. Yuja, Jasmine Sambac & Marigold, English Oak & Hazelnut, English Oak & Red Currant and Basil & Neroli. Surprisingly got great longevity for all.
Next week is my birthday week so I will spend lots of time with the creamy lilac goodness of Brigitte, my custom Sarah Horowitz blend that she made for me decades ago
TGIF
And I went down the rabbit hole in 1968 and don’t know the name of the fragrance so just as well that I wear Brigitte.
It’s been a while since I’ve worn Melograno. I hope that’s not one of the ones I packed away when I was clearing space for a building maintenance task… Melograno is simple, really, but it’s one of my all-time favs.
I hope you can find it!!! I shared that bottle with my son. We both loved it. It’s a classic.
Thanks — I know where it is but getting to it will take effort.
It would smell great on a guy — you’re bringing up that young man right, chocolate marzipan!
Trying my best!
Do find your bottle and wear it ?
Yes, I remembered that but it was not the same 🙂
Yes, definitely tweaked! Which do you prefer? I prefer RV.
Well I had already bought the original so I decided I liked it better, LOL…seriously don’t really remember how they were different and no need to investigate now ???
Ha true!!!
Yay for birthday week! I am so looking forward to lilac season this year. I plan to inhale deeply and often.
Rose Volupte is gorgeous! ???
It doesn’t really count for community-project purposes, but whatever: today I chose Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, almost certainly the most beautiful — or at least the most unobjectionable — scent he ever launched. It always makes me happy.
“Most unobjectionable” made me laugh!
It still begins with an S…
UBV may have been the first Serge I bought. I still love it, and converted my sister as well. You smell great!
Great choice!
My choice is Strange Invisible Perfumes, my favorite perfume company. If you count the samples, and a lot of full bottles, I think I have pretty much everything they ever made, including many limited editions. Today is a nicely misty, rainy day so I went with Black Rosette, the dark and mysterious rose. Afternoon backup in case the sun peaks out from behind the clouds: Tahitian Honey, a very sunlit and yes, honeyed perfume.
I envy your collection then!
Wow, me too! I have quite a few bottles myself from years back but nothing close to everything they’ve released. That Tahitian Honey sounds really nice. I remember reading about it when it came out.
Got some bad news this morning. My grandmother passed away this morning, after an 8 year battle with ovarian cancer. In the drydown of Coco Mademoiselle. After my shower, I think De Profundis will do.
So sorry, Dawn.
I am so sorry, Dawn. Sending comforting hugs.
Very sorry to hear this Dawn, how awful for you.
Virtual hugs, Dawn!
Oh no, I’m so sorry Dawn!

So sorry, Dawn.
My condolences, Dawn.
So sorry for your loss, Dawn. Sending you hugs
So, so sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry. A sad loss.
In SSS Fireside Intense. Very nice, but too smoky for my taste. Once it wears off I will spray on some Incense Pure, which I really love.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Yes! Switch to Incense Pure.
I am still shining my enabler pin ?
I am joining you today PL67.
? hey twin.
You smell like tranquility.
Hi twin! We smell fantastic and serene. Incense Pure is such a beautiful scent!
Is it just me or does this baby really purrr in the colder weather?
I have a travel spray of Fireside Intense. One of these days I will compare it to the sample of Fireside that I have.
Please, let us know the difference.
Happy Friday!
Hope you had a good day!
I’m wearing Smell Bent April, which is a prototype. Smell Bent was selling full bottles of some of their prototypes a few years ago and I picked this one. It smells almost like Florists Fridge.
That sounds nice then! It would be cool if more indie brands sold their prototypes as limited editions.
Ari had prototypes of her fragrances available to sniff at the launches. It was really fun to see the evolution.
Since I’m not a big fruit fan, I loved the creamier version of her first scent, but even I have to admit that the final passionfruit to the max version is perfectly euphoric.
I’m doing Sous les Magnolias by Pierre Bourdon which has 4 S’s in its name, which should at least give me some partial points.
Plus if you add P + B you get R which is very nearly an S (in order of the alphabet I mean. That is my story, and I’m sticking to it. Tea is Doke Black Fusion. Not my favourite.
????
And congrats on your dream job!
Thanks!
Ha! That’s the same formula as “Perfume Math” ?
HA! A great mental workout so early in the day.
Hey… Sous starts with S….
And ends with one ?
lol dig the Perfume Math! ✨
Did you crack the Enigma Code in a previous life?
Yep!
My brain moves in mysterious ways and George Smiley is one of my literary heroes.
Also…Pierre is french for ‘stone’? Another ‘s’
We should set up a decoding agency together ?
I didn’t see your news until just now, austenfan. How exciting! I am so happy for you!
It is and thanks!
I missed the job announcement, congratulations!
Thank you, hope you are hanging in there.
SOTD is Sylvaine Delacourt Virgile. Love this mix of herbs and vanilla.
You smell great. Virgile was one of the favorites from her vanillas.
My favorite indie S is Slumberhouse so I am wearing Grev. Such a weird one, minty-spicy-woodsy but somehow more than the sum of its parts. I love Slumberhouse’s lighter oddities (this, New Sibet, Sadanne) much more than their dense chewy Tobacco Man scents, although I can see why people like those too.
It is weird, but cool too. Maybe it will have a superpower like ability for you today.
I love Sibet & Sadanne best too.
I love the cold herbal/mineral streaks of Grev.
I love having a bunch of the Slumberhouse perfumes, in the bottle design I liked best — the one before this one I think — but most only get the very occasionally wear. I like to have them around though, for when I want to smell like a pine forest or a bottle of whiskey or a tobacco field.
Good morning NST! Feeling much better today because I went to bed at 2130 and slept straight through to 1030 this morning! Plus, my shift was cancelled, and I’m not sad about it.
Haven’t given a thought to perfume yet as I’m still in waking mode with coffee and toast. Something easy and relaxing. I may copy Pyramus above…
I’m going to try and maintain a good mood by avoiding the news and continuing to work on the VRP (Van Rehab Project). In the past few days, I’ve gotten so many loose things tightened, broken things fixed, dirty things cleaned, lost things were found (my titanium fork, nail file, sleeping mask…) and cluttered things were decluttered. Today, I’m going to work on clothes storage and under counter organization. I haven’t had the ability to remove EVERYTHING to clean and reorganize since I left Florida. There’s no one up here, so I’ve been able to leave stuff out (my drill, bike, etc) for a couple days without worrying about stuff getting stolen. Marie Kondo would be proud!
Robin, thanks for your book suggestions. I downloaded the audible version of “Grant” and was sawing wood within a half hour. I’m sure it’s very interesting, but I wasn’t awake long enough to find out. ?
Good job Deva..thats the spirit!
Lack of sleep turns me into a monster. If I were a spy, sleep deprivation would have me giving up state and national secrets in no time. ?
I’m the same way re: sleep deprivation.
I’m never sad when my shift gets unexpectedly cancelled either, lol. Are you working second shift? Good sleep and avoiding the news makes all the difference. Good luck on your VRP!
I got cancelled once last week too, and I’m hoping the trend continues! ?
I’m working nights this contract because I was contracted back in February and anticipating living out of the van, and I didn’t want to have to worry about the van getting too warm during a day shift for the doggo to be comfortable. If I was able to fit into parking garages, it would be no problem because the outside temp is not bad. The problem is the greenhouse effect due to being in direct sunshine. I have a temp gauge that alerts my phone if the temp goes above or below my set parameters, but I just didn’t want to have to worry about her. Nights are still very cool up here, and even in high summer, cool down a lot.
On the news front, yesterday just threw me right over the edge. When you start yelling at the %@&$! on the TV screen it’s time to step away! ?
Yesterday’s news caused Mr. G to start laughing uncontrollably – you know the kind of laugh that’s not a “happy” laugh, but you can’t stop? It was that. And then he rewound the DVR and made ME come watch. It did not make me laugh – my reaction was more like yours.
I think I had the same reaction your husband had. ???
I’m glad I don’t watch tv!
I’m glad you got a good night’s sleep. That sounds like it helped a lot. 🙂
I saw video clips of various bits of news, and thought, “Let’s just let the scientists and medical professionals talk, and let us know what’s appropriate for citizens’ health.” I’m trying not to talk politics, but I want to hear the experts when it comes to living in the time of a pandemic. It’s not the time for amateurs.
LOL — so glad to hear it!
There may be nothing better for bad moods and anxiety than simply cleaning up. It combines unstressful physical activity with concrete and pleasing results.
I would add a good bonfire…from garden prunings and branches. Almost impossible now in city gardens but so exciting and absorbing
We used to burn leaves/cuttings in the yard in Saskatchewan. Lots of fun indeed!
Growing up in the country, I have very fond memories of raking leaves and then having a bonfire on a crisp fall evening. Here in the urban heat island, it’s all noisy leaf blowers and pickup by vacuum truck.
A good sleep is one of the best things in life!
Hope you had a good day, Deva!
I have yesterday’s dry down of MDCI’s Chypre Palatin on my wrists and sweater. What a beauty this one is.
SSS Incense Pure for me today.
Happy Friday all.
That one is lovely too!
That might be my favorite SSS, but it’s hard to pick just one favorite.
Playing the CP today in Tabac Aurea– I smell insanely gorgeous.
You do indeed. 🙂
Do you get much immortelle from that one?
So, I am not clear on what is the scent of immortelle. This is a hay, tobacco scent–sweet hay more than honey to my nose, and definitely tobacco. I do not smell any maple syrup, as I think some people describe immortelle. YMMV.
I’ve understood immortelle as having a maple syrup scent. I could be wrong, though. Sounds like it works really well on you! ?
Participating today in SS Corvin’s Smoked Apple from a sample. Very smoky indeed, verging on the edge of bbq for me.
Looking forward to a three day weekend and hoping the sun will come out. ?
It’s a three day weekend? I am literally so utterly confused. And I think I have meetings Monday . . .
Have a beautiful weekend!
I will put on something from Solstice Scents in a bit.
This marks the end of week 6 working and schooling from home for me and my enthusiasm is waning. 😉 I was more hopeful and energized in the early weeks. I feel like we are in a forest of unknown size and it’s getting less and less fun wandering around while we look for the other side.
I stopped watching news during the election of 2016 😉 so that is not getting me down. I do read news but I limit my intake and only consume reputable sites.
I am very grateful for this lovely community and diversion and shall keep spraying perfume with abandon while we are all in this forest together.
I am feeling frazzled and worn out today too, your forest metaphor is apt. This whole thing is getting to me. I had to run & turn the TV off today as my husband left it on and suddenly the news started blaring hideous things.
I too stopped tuning in to the news in 2016, and am very careful about sourcing when I do take a peek at world events. I feel a little guilty about “ostrich-ing”, but my sanity is a priority.
I wonder how many people who work from home have carved out a dedicated ‘non-work/school’ space in their homes? Our house is small so it feels like every phone call/zoom meeting/ computer keyboard pounding/ groan and sigh was taking over the ‘ sanctuary’ of home , and we had lost a quiet place to just sit and read or look out the window and refresh.
My kitchen has become my combo work space and kitchen. Office work does not get done elsewhere. It’s just me and crocheted kitteh Billy Bob 2.0 who’s perfectly content observing all.
OMG – we need pictures of Billy Bob 2.0!
Here you go, Billy Bob 2.0’s debut on Insta:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B7NaHChBuZj/?igshid=1xxm6yab2ij6v
#hajusuuri_billybob has a very small collection of Billy Bob 2.0 posts.
I try really hard to keep certain kinds of work to certain places and leave a spot for not working. It can be hard in a smaller apartment, but I’m doing pretty well.
Yeah, I totally hit the wall this week. The forest metaphor is . . . it doesn’t even feel like a metaphor!
Yes, the forest is real. 🙂 🙁
I just heard earlier tonight from Mr. Jalapeno that his WFH has been extended to May 29. ?
I’m in SMN Eva for the Friday theme. I love Eva – it’s a sprightly little orange blossom scent sprinkled over with fresh lemon and black pepper. Have to go in to the office later today, and not looking forward to it – I’m enjoying WFH a bit too much. 😀 Happy Friday, everyone!
I love the sounds of this perfume, it seems wonderful!
I like the zing pepper gives to perfumes, have you tried Ofresia by Diptyque? It’s very short-lived but black pepper adds a nice spicy touch.
No, haven’t tried that one. If I ever get to Nordstrom again, I’ll find a tester and give it a spritz – thanks!
*dreaming about wandering aimlessly through Nordstrom* ☺️
Sigh. You and me both.
Me three. I love their perfume counter.
Put me at number four in line.
I did my homework!
Community project ready in SMN Citta di Kyoto.
Oh what is that like?
Strange Invisible Perfumes L’Invisible for me today. My first SIP and the first bottle of perfume I spent more than $100 on. Their prices were very different when I bought this bottle. I think I got it on sale for $108 during a 20% Beautyhabit sale sometime between 2008-2010. Anyway, I said to my boyfriend this morning, “I smell too good!” I stand by that. ?
Also, wow there are so many good S brands. And so, so, so happy it’s Friday!
And me just getting stuck on SIP… Strange Invisible Perfumes OR Shelter in Place?
Ha, in this case SIP = Strange Invisible Perfumes. Though this is my first shelter in place too.
?
That is a lovely perfume, with real oakmoss and all. Also, vanilla.. I do have issues with vanilla in general, it always dominates the drydown and eats up everything else on my skin, so this was one of the few SIP bottles that I ended up giving away, to my sister (who said this perfume was “too warm” for her and could not quite explain what she meant by that). I think I also got this from Beauty Habit, for about $100 – those were the days! Today’s prices, especially for the SIP limited editions, are mind boggling, but for an indie house that actually distills certain ingredients in-house, it is what it is…
Yeah, I am with you on the pricing for the limited editions. I was very pleased that SIP reduced prices on the signature line some months back. I have a back up bottle of L’Invisible still, but I’ll consider the 15ml bottle of Prima Ballerina when I run out of that one. I probably have 8-10ml left in that bottle.
It’s cold and rainy, so of course a perfect day to wear SSS Jour Ensoleille. This truly has become one of my favorite scents…not just because I got a compliment in the wild, but it hits the floral and green notes I love. And it really does remind me of Sonoma.
Woke up way early again, but determined to not get up…got a couple more hours, so I’m well-rested and over 8 hours of sleep. . .
My husband is scared, but I’m determined to trim his hair. I’ve told him I’ll only do a little. And, I’m wearing non-jeans but actual nice slacks today. Why? Because they have a high, rather fitted waist. And I’ve been eating way too much sugar lately so need the reminder of a waistline.
Oh LizzieB you smell so lovely!
Good luck with the Barber’s job – maybe put a fougere on him first for luck & inspiration.
Make sure you get a picture of the look on his face when you rev up the clippers! ?
Heh… we only have scissors. So, I will go slow. Supposed to do it after he showers, but he’s moving real slow on heading to the shower…. delay tactic…
How is your knitting going? I made a knitted sleeve/pouch for my fountain pen as a starter project.
I haven’t finished the hat that was giving me fits, but I have done a couple of basic men’s hats. Nothing interesting. Once I finish this hat, I’ll do a scarf to match the evil hat and pen grudgingly finish that hat. Then I’m going to try a cable knit project I think.
Sotd Demeter PBnJ which sadly smells like an off scratch and sniff sticker and not really at all like a pbnj.
Went to get some sunshine. While going down the block from my house, I saw at least 200 cars all lined up to receive food from a food truck. Police were driving car to car asking drivers a question of some kind. Police tape at the end of the line. Kinda surreal to see that. Heartwarming and concerning at the same time.
Watched my mayor look like a total buffoon on that CNN interview. I am so moved she offered to use the city as a control group for the virus. What a thoughtful gesture. Smh. I understand the pressure she must be getting but sheesh.
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas ? Seriously though, I’m at a complete loss about the state of this country. I’m happy my father is not around to see this debacle.
I have been having exactly this thought about my parents, Deva. I can feel them spinning in their graves.
Was totally startled to learn that I share an alma mater with your mayor. Not something I want advertised!
I was wondering about the PB&J scent. Thanks for the info. I’ve had a lot of fun with many samples and a few bottles of Demeter. Baby Powder was a blind buy, but for $7.99 I was willing to take the risk. It turns out that I like it, so that worked out. I sniffed Rosebush and Pink Grapefruit on paper before getting them, and I enjoy those. 🙂
As for the Las Vegas mayor, I thought, “I hope she’s not related to us.” I imagined Mom’s father and his parents rolling in their graves.
Went through my SSS perfumes and couldn’t find anything springy, note to self I need to order second bottles of Bee’s Bliss and Yin & Ylang for the Montréal condo. So I’m wearing Sienna Musk.
Love Sienna Musk. Sad when Laurie d/c it. She told me it was because she could no longer source an ingredient.
I am wearing SSS Champagne de Bois this morning. I bought my bottle just before Laurie sold the business. It’s one of my favorite sandalwoods.
I discovered this morning that I have to go to Costco for cat food. The bag sits inside a small plastic garbage can with a lid because I found Bertie Wooster headfirst in the bag more than once when it sat on the floor. I knew it was getting low but this morning I had to scrape around the bottom. Wish me luck!
SmokeyToes did that. Butt up in the air, head in the bag. I need all tupper-ware snap-lid containers from now on!
And you smell glorious!
I had two cats who used to do some complex tag team number where they would get the large tupperware container with the cat food in it down from a shelf and open. The top was just covered in scratches and kitty determination. We kept threatening to set up a kitty cam to see how they did it.
Pixel kitty used to chew through the cat food bag when we were foolish enough to leave it out unattended. So we started locking it in the powder room.
All over the CP in Smell Bent Incensed Short Fuse. Appropriate in so many ways.
So true! I think I’ll join you later. I still have a bit left in my 3ml sample. ??
SSS Amber Incense today. A bit heavy for a spring-y day — we suddenly have spring this week — but enjoyable nevertheless. Today I’m getting something fruity from it… apple?
TGIF, y’all!
Spring! How exciting! We have some flowers but not the weather yet.
I am fresh out of any perfume from a company that starts with S! I thought I had some Seeley hiding in the back of the fridge, but I can’t even find that.
Instead, I’m wearing vintage Lalique (the discontinued original). I thunked my little 5mL bottle today! Feeling slightly productive. 🙂
Sorry it’s gone though!
Hi all,
My SOTD is SSS Jour Ensoleillé, perfect golden scent for what will be a very warm day in SF. I love the oakmoss, tuberose, myrrh, labdanum, and ambergris. I would bathe in this if I could… This and Opal are my two favorites from SSS.
I just returned from a harrowing trip to the store (Sprouts), people were not social distancing, my poor cashier was very stressed – overall craziness.
I am so glad to be home. I am back in jammies with a cup of tea.
You and I smell good!
There is an element of the mask requirement here that I find helpful. It’s just less stressful if everyone is wearing masks. Miss Sprouts, especially their soda bread. Yum.
I went to the supermarket on Monday morning and it was my activity for the whole day; afterward I just crashed. Hope you are unwinding successfully.
Slowly, unwinding. I can view the Pacific ocean from my apartment window. Currently, there’s a huge tanker ship passing by.
The hubby’s home today. We’re making comfort in small joys. Today’s beginning wasn’t stellar but I’m in a much better place. 🙂
Oh nice to have a view, especially in these times.
Uh oh. I might have another SSS lemming from that description.
Maybe quarter points for one ofy only S scents, so I wore Lovely Sheer and later layered it with SL MKK, so two S make maybe a half?
We are waiting for our asparagus quiche to be ready and having a nice glass of Riesling to begin the weekend.
Oh, that quiche and wine combination sounds SO good! I’m coming over!
Me too, I will say 6 ft away and will bring some La Crema Chardonnay. ?
Your dinner sounds delicious!
To celebrate a week that contains both Earth Day and Arbor Day, I’ve been enjoying green and woody scents all week. To honor Arbor Day today, and inspired by the tiny wild violets blooming everywhere in my garden, I’m wearing DSquared She Wood as a base. Its soft woody/powdery violet is complemented by SSS Wood Violet on one wrist – ‘violet flowers and leaves accented with plum, cedar, sandalwood, musk and soft spices’ – and SSS Voile de Violette on the other wrist – ‘celebrate spring with this unique blend of violet flower, tonga, violet leaf, cedar, vetiver and myrrh’ – so I am celebrating today’s cp as well! In harmony with the universe, I feel a sense of peace.
Music and baseball as well as nature have kept me sane this week. Several of our favorite area musicians have frequent live streams, and because I have seen them in person many times, the memories of those moments enhance my enjoyment of these temporary measures until we can be together again. The White Sox have been replaying various memorable games and moments of the past on YouTube, so I don my fan gear and enjoy knowing other fans are ‘in the moment’ cheering along with me, forgetting at least for a time that a trip to the ballpark is a distant dream now.
And with all the early spring veggies – broccoli, cabbage, radishes, spinach, lettuce, peas, beets, and carrots – finally planted, next week I’ll work in the herb garden. Peeks of oregano, tarragon, and mint can be seen and the chives are fully up. My world is greener every day and the migrating birds are arriving. Life goes on and I feel a sense of hope.
Wishing you all moments of peace, joy and hope to carry you through these difficult days.
My first baseball game ever was a White Sox game. My mother was a HUGE Sox fan from way back. I’m glad you can enjoy the best games all over again. ??
The White Sox formerly had Spring camp in Sarasota FL at Ed Smith Stadium. Did you ever get a chance to visit? Right around the corner were a lot of Mennonite restaurants.
I have The Big Hurt’s (Frank Thomas) signature somewhere in my collection.
My mother was the fan, I went along as an unwilling seven year old. I haven’t been to a game since I was a kid. Sitting in the bleachers in Florida in the heat and humidity being roasted alive is not my idea of fun. #notasportsfan ?
I grew up practically in the shadow of the old ballpark, but have lived in the nw suburbs for many years, so Sox baseball is one of the very few connections to that era of my life (like you, I’m not a sports fan either except for my baseball passion. I love visiting the old neighborhood, and knowing the outcome of the game I’m watching enables me to relax and fully enjoy the moment!
What a lovely upbeat post! I’m happy you are finally (let’s hope) past the snow stage. The veggies + herbs all sound wonderful! It’s sad that our beloved Astros have now been tarnished. Many fans like me have very mixed feelings about the team now, after having been so uplifted by them before (after Harvey).
Yes, fingers crossed we are past the snow. These are cool weather veggies so I have to get them in so they mature before it gets too hot. And I sympathize with the plight of Astros fans, I would feel awful, too (I believe the Red Sox from the previous year were also tainted.)
We have our own stigma of the 1919 Black Sox scandal.
Our valley and hillside is filled with trees displaying beautiful autumn colours and the native kereru ( wood pigeons) are big and fat from gorging on berries . When they fly they ‘swoop’ so they flap their wings and then just stop, and fall like a roller coaster..you would love it.

Lovely plumage! (said in my best Monty Python voice)
Yes, I would love it! Your wood pigeon looks like our mourning doves. They are large and slow moving and have the loveliest soft coos. I love your descriptions – you live in another beautiful world so different from mine, one I’ve never been to but would love to visit one day!
wishing you the same.
Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers back atcha!
SotD SMN Russa layered over my Viktoria Minya custom. I am basically a full orange tree – petitgrain, neroli, orange blossom – with bracing peppery and herbal notes singing on top.
I smell wonderful and like I have far more energy than I actually do!
But I managed to grocery shop this morning, and made a really awesome and giant pizza yesterday afternoon (caramelized onions, bacon and sauteed spinach and garlic on rosé béchamel) so I’m pretty well off the hook from needing to be more than a blob til at least Sunday.
…Right?
Right. And yum!
Your pizza sounds fantastic, yum!
I want ?
That pizza sounds drool-worthy!
Friday! Yes!
SOTD: YSL Libre
Pleased with myself for scoring a container of antibacterial wipes at the hardware store this morn. Only allowed to buy one of course but grateful for this one.
Wow, score!
Participating in Slumberhouse Not be. Still waiting for the rain from Jalapeno to arrive ??
My autocorrect decoder says… Norne?
Oh, missed your comment below ?
?
Apparently the rain ignored my request today for it to move on. Grump.
After all those weeks in which I either forgot that Friday should have been community project day or in which I simply didn’t have anything that would have fitted the theme, I have – hooray – finally managed to participate again:
I’m wearing SMN Lana, which – quite against the official notes list – to my nose sits somewhere between Annick Goutal’s Ninfeo Mio, Byredo’s Pulp and Comme des Garcons’ 2 Man. Fascinating …
Have not tried Lana but now I want to!
Wearing SJP Lovely today so partial points today.
SJP is so pretty!
One of my favorites! You small awesome!
Scent cousins, I wear lovely sheer, the summer, Version. We smell good
Autocorrect transformed Norne.
Ha! You smell great!
Late but thank you very much Amy, Norne is very potent but I loved the incense dry down.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Borneo 1834
From my vintage partial bottle and what a wonderful perfume! I have a lot of small Ss but chose to wear this because I wanted to. Partial partial credit!

This morning, I participated in a group “Connections” session, one of the many programs that our Employee Assistance Program implemented. The session could have accommodated 20 people but only 9 showed up and 1 of the 9 dropped due to a bad connection. Anyway, after hearing everyone else’s “tale of woes”, I consider myself super lucky to be in my circumstances.
Photo looks great! Plus, Borneo!
You smell wonderful! And I consider myself very fortunate as well.
Partial credit and maybe rarity points for wearing the very beautiful Juozas Statkevicius from a decent-sized sample. Perhaps the most beautiful incense perfume I’ve ever smelled, with a very intense quality and a lot of sweetness.
Ltsg, take a look, I suspect you will like what you see. (Wink, wink.) https://www.instagram.com/juozasstat_official/
you keep creating lemmings…first the Amouage mimosa and now this.
Hubbaaa.
Its cloudy and rainy here..but I think the sun just came out (in my mind) 😉
This made LOL!
Oh..how I adore you!!!
🙂 😉
My my! I pictured him much older and stately in my mind.
Wow… and Growl!
He’s attractive and looks really young
SOTD is Sweet Anthem Vivian for partial credit.Notes are Tonka Bean,Rosewood and Lily of the Valley.
Sounds perfect for spring!
My days keep getting stranger. I was asleep, dreaming that I was rehearsing a play when Rufus Sewell spotted me and came running towards me, hopping over the theatre seats to sit beside me when suddenly bagpipes started playing…the only thing is that the bagpipes were real and it was 5.30am. It is ANZAC day here which is usually marked by a dawn ceremony in remembrance of the AUS/NZ troops who landed at Gallipoli with the intention of taking Constantinople . It was the first big battle for the Australian and New Zealanders in WW1 and resulted in major losses ….anyway, all the dawn ceremonies are banned this year due to lockdown hence my neighbour’s (surprise) solo acknowledgement . Bagpipes create an earworm echo so I keep hearing the tune…I will wear SB The Yard Next Door which is a eucalyptus scent so fits both Arbor Day and ANZAC day. I wonder what Rufus was going to say to me….
I really love your strange reports. I’ve been thinking about acorns and James Bond a lot today.
You are not alone in having unusual dreams now:
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/insomnia-and-vivid-dreams-rise-pandemic-anxiety-180974726/?utm_source=smithsoniandaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20200423-daily-responsive&spMailingID=42342156&spUserID=NzQwNDU2OTE1OTcS1&spJobID=1742516608&spReportId=MTc0MjUxNjYwOAS2
But yours seem special, as befits a creative person.
How fabulous that your neighbour performed a bagpipe solo for you! Though maybe not at 5:30am…..
I enjoy the specificity of Rufus Sewell.
Oh nice! For me, being woken to music at 5:30am is not so early. In a previous life, I once woke up to a piano / marimba a Carnegie Hall level performance.
Friyay!
No points for me,
Bandit
Wow. This April must be the most sunny April I have ever experienced.
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️5/5 would visit again ?
Its really unbelievable.
Alas, forest fires have been reported as well (quite unusual in this country this time of year)
I have to make so many (video) calls for work, its tiring, i can hardly motivate myself to call friends and family after work. ? I may need to send some post cards again next week. Everybody loves mail right? ?
We are having the coldest April on record.
Yesterday I was on 16 back to back video conferencing. 8 am to 4 pm. But work started at 4 am. This WFH is literally going to kill me.
And I would like to Chuck my Chromebook out the window!!! ??☹️?????
I hear you!
I love my job most of the time, but nowadays I sometimes dream of a job without ICT. ?
No
Teams/Skype/ Zoom/WhatsApp/ Yammer/Slack…
Ever
Again ?
Yes!!! None of that!! I guess we are lucky in that we still have jobs.
Yeah I consider myself lucky ?. So glad I can work and make myself useful.
Work can also be a welcome distraction from Covid19 news.
But I also found out if something stressful or stupid happens at work, its worse than when you are in the office with your co-workers around.
my tiny home office can feel lonely and stuffy now and then.
I learned to take more breaks. I blocked parts in my calender for walks and lunch. ?☕??
Because I am working 12-14 hour days I haven’t blocked time for anything. But if we are truly to continue in this fashion of WFH I am going to have to insist on giving myself breaks and just doing less. I agree, it’s harder to separate work from home.
Same here… several records broken across Canada this April. Can’t wait for spring!
I almost prefer a postcard (or letter) to a phone call.
Bandit is great, although I happen to prefer Fracas.
Yes, Fracas is awesome as well.
I may wear that tomorrow from your decant. Its perfect for these chilly spring evenings
Bandit? <3 <3 <3
Are you familiar with the vintage Bandit?
I bet it smells even better.
I bet I have told you this before, but I have such a soft spot for Eeyore. ? And the way he is drawn in you avatar is the best version!
I am. I am lucky enough to have some of the parfum. While modern Bandit smells pretty great, the original is heart-stoppingly wonderful. (I am a *huge* cellier fan, though.)
Yes 🙂 It would be very hard not to love donkeys, I think.
I’m in SSS Equestrian, after trying Tabac Aurea early this morning. Tabac Aurea just goes all maple syrup on me. The immortelle monster strikes again, so this travel spray has landed on the swap pile.
The Equestrian has a lot of green apple in the opening, and stays pretty fruity on me. The drydown is lovely, but I’m not sure I enjoy the getting there part.
And not worth buying if you have to grit your teeth through the opening…
Immortelle blows up into a Godzilla-sized monster on me, too.
SotD = Arielle Shoshana
Passionfruit power! Such a pretty scent, and the sandalwood drydown is so very good.
(Some sandalwoods go all screechy and headache inducing on me, Samsara I’m looking at you.)
I’ve emptied several samples of AS, really should buy a bottle of this one.
Happy Friday, NST friends, whatever this day means to you, please let’s make it a little better by taking good care of yourself or someone you love.
I am taking care of myself by drinking some hot water with lemon and listening to classical music while my kids their toys a bath in the sink
perfect! group hug to you and the kiddos for the sweet picture you’ve painted. 😀
You smell like Summer ☀️Love the passionfruit!
thank you! it’s amazing, Arielle really hit one out of the park for passionfruit. 😀
I’m very curious about this one – may have to order a sample.
very sample-worth! I do hope you’ll try it. 😀
I *still* haven’t sniffed my sample of Saturday yet. I am being a total slacker on that.
I’ve never smelled anything like it, and I say that in a very good way. It made me smile when I first tried it. Perfect for those times when you need a pick me up!
doooo eeeeeet! 😀 Arielle’s Saturday and Sunday are on my sampling wish list, I’ll place an order someday soon.
SOTD: La Fille de Berlin by SL for Friday credit. A nice jammy rose, with honey, fruits and a little pepper. Ready for the weekend and a break from screens lol! Enjoying a sonnet a day with Patrick Stewart.
You smell wonderful — and cheerful. I really love La Fille de Berlin.
Sonnets read by Patrick Stuart, where?
On his Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/SirPatStew?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
and I think they’ve been posted to YouTube too.
Such a wonderful voice!
I’m wearing Sonoma Scent Studio’s Fig Tree.
Another house twin! I bet we have a lot of company today…
Behold this beautiful French pocket watch with a built in vinaigrette:

No affiliation — if I possessed this treasure, I would not be selling it.
Sorry, that’s the wrong link, to toxic vegetable I was posting to someone who has bamboo in their yard.
Here’s the watch link:

Beautiful watch and chain. People are so clever and skilled.
Enjoyed the toxin info too!
That seller has many beautiful old pocket watches, but I’d never seen one with a vinaigrette before (in my recent obsession with old pocket watches). Yes, I knew some of those foods could be toxic, but not others.
I went with Bee’s Bliss by SSS to combat this cold, rainy day because it is sunshine in a bottle. ??
Happy Friday all!
House twins today! ?
? I love this one!
Weather twins with everyone who has rainy cold weather today. ☔?
Gads, what a week. Mr. Jalapeno had an appointment with a cardiologist yesterday. He had mentioned to his regular doctor that he had noticed some irregular heartbeats recently. That was a contributing factor in my crying yesterday. So far, the cardiologist hasn’t been alarmed at anything that has shown up. More tests are in Mr. Jalapeno’s future, though.
SOTD = SSS Winter Woods, from the sample stash. I know a few of you wore it earlier this week. So thanks for the inspiration!
I love Winter Woods. Works in the summer too!
So far, Winter Woods works for me in cool spring weather. I will give the sample another sniff in warmer weather, assuming it lasts that long. I am enjoying it very much in the rain today.
Glad your husband is getting care, Jalapeno, and wishing you both all the best.
Thank you nozknoz!
Hey house twin! I hope Mr. Jalapeno passes all his tests with flying colors! These are stressful times. Hopefully, it will all be fine.
Thanks Petunia!
Well wishes to Mr. Jalapeno!
Thank you lillyjo!
Hopefully the irregular heartbeats are nothing serious. I have them as well several times a month, never gave much thought to it.
I guess that irregular heartbeats aren’t as unusual as I had first thought.
But definitely something to check out, which I am glad that your husband is doing!
Sorry you’ve and the Mr had such a health scare on top of everything else. I’m glad his work up so far is negative, and hoping the additional testing is the same.
Thanks, Deva. Fingers and toes crossed re: those upcoming tests for sure.
So glad nothing alarming so far…fingers crossed here too!
Thank you Robin!
Hope next week is better for you and Mr. Jalapeno. I saw your comment yesterday about crying. Sometimes that’s cathartic. It’s a stressful time, and then having a spouse with health issues must add to that. I’m glad to hear that the cardiologist wasn’t alarmed, and hope the tests go well.
Virtual *hugs*
We get more irregular heartbeats when we are aging. In most cases it’s harmless, so don’t worry too much
I have a vat of this bought before the change. Glad Mr. J is being checked out and so far, nothing alarming!
Hello NST friends! I’ve missed checking in regularly, but work has gotten in the way, grrr. It’s only been a few weeks of my work reassignment, but my body feels like it’s been 30 years!
No CP points for me but I wore a few spritzes of Tommy Bahama St Barts for some errands and chores. I chose it mostly because I saw it in my drawer and couldn’t remember how it smelled (a swap acquisition from last summer). Anyway, it’s pleasant and summery, unlike the grey, drizzly cold today.
Funny work-meets-perfumista life story that happened this week. One of my patients was a 90 y.o. woman with advanced dementia. I was rummaging around in her bedside drawers looking for some supplies and when I opened it, there was a bottle of Parfumerie Generale 05 L’Eau de Circe lying on top of some hospital supplies. I’d never heard of that PG before and gave my hand a small spritz of the 1/4 full bottle and held it up against my mask to try and smell it. Well, it basically smells like Gucci Rush and since it was on my mask, that’s what I smelled all day ? Also, how cool and weird that this woman owned a PG! She must have been a perfumista, herself. The perfume was launched in 2005 and the top notes did smell slightly off.
What an amazing find and a gutsy perfume choice. You have an insightful nose: LT also compares it to Gucci Rush in the Guide:
“Slightly less blowzy and therefore less good. As usual, get the real thing.”
I suppose an 85-year-old perfumista might be forgiven for wanting the slightly less blowzy version. ?
I dunno, it really punched me in the face! I wasn’t ready for the committment to smelling it all day, lol. Smelled pretty good to me, though!
Good to see you! Do you have any idea on how long your “reassignment” is going to last? At least then, there would be a weak glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel…
I think it’s funny how “old people” are viewed by those much younger. I love “old” people and wish I had the time when working to listen to all their stories. Maybe she was a real looker in the WWII era and had officers and enlisted alike fawning over her! Maybe she was a spy? I bet she has some good stories tucked up there in that cranium. ?
Hey! No odea how long this will last. I do have a schedule for the next 3 weeks. I think they’ll have to keep reevaluating the need. The problem is not as much patoent overflow as something like 40-60% of the staff being out sick. Some are starting to come back, but my coworker went out last week with Covid, and 2 more called out Wednesday.
I know! I do know she’s Russian, and she had some old photographs of herself with various family members on the window sill. Guessing they’re from the 80s cuz if the shoulder pads ? I also enjoy elderly folk.
Oh geez! I know you’re being extra careful and if I had some masks of any kind I’d send you some fresh ones. Ours are kept under lock and key and you have to beg for them. I hope you and the hubs keep well. ?
So nice to read your post Elisa. I’ve been thinking of you. Your story made me smile. ?
Thank you Petunia ? I keep meaning to try and post, but get distracted.
That bottle was like an oasis in the desert, lol.
Glad to see you today.
Thanks lj! Nice to see everyone, too. And of course, I immediately thought of you with the Rush association ?
Lol! I thought of me too!
How awesome about finding that PG! Discovering details like that about a stranger intrigue me. Hang in there!
I know! And no one there would get why I was so thrilled! Too bad she couldn’t communicate. I also wonder where she bought it…
Good to hear from you Elisa P!
Thanks Jalapeno! So good to see you guys. I feel like I’ve missed a lot. I hope you are well. Sounds like you’ve had some stresses, yourself. Best wishes to your hubs and the arrhythmias being nothing concerning.
It’s so, so good to see your post! I’ve been thinking of you and hoping you are okay. ?
Thanks Nancyl! Nice to be thought of, and I think about you guys, too. My smelly fam ?
I’m okay, cranky, but ok, lol.
I love this story and also loved that you sprayed it! Even if it didn’t wear that well for the day!
Y’know, I dithered on spraying it, not because of how it would smell, but because it was her personal property. But, couldn’t help myself. Sad, though, she’s pretty end-stage dementia, and they aren’t allowed any visitors, so felt like I was honoring part of her story.
I don’t think anyone who enjoys perfume would begrudge a spray to anyone. I think she would be delighted you sampled.
I once had a patient that I extubated. Later on she kept trying to talk and I kept telling her not to talk, to rest her throat. She kept talking, so I decided to go ahead and give her a good bath while she was so alert and awake. She kept talking. Finally, I was able to figure out what she was saying, and it turned out as a child she survived the bombing of Berlin. So I shut up and let her talk. What a story. She held nothing back, and I was crying by the end of it. She stopped talking after the story was all out, and told me “You vawsh me like a horse!” ?
Like many here, I’ve been wondering how you’re doing. Glad thing seem to be going ok and that’s quite a story with the PG!
Enjoying a spritz from my bottle of Sonoma Scent Studio Femme Jolie. I have had this bottle for years – still smells warm and awesome, perfect for a cold spring evening.
I think that is an SSS I never smelled! Glad it is awesome.
Today seems like a good day for Pear + Olive by Slumberhouse, so that is what I spritzed on. I had forgotten that I had an “S” perfume that more or less fits into our Friday project.
Of course it fits !
No scent yet — maybe something this evening…
Daily life stuff: Very successful trip to Walmart today. Count me as someone else who’s tired of cold and rain.
Coldest spring I can remember in recent years. Each time I venture into the stores, I feel like Elmer Fud hunting wabbit. Well, except I am really hunting for TP and other essentials. I hope that reference isn’t too old for you. ?
Yes, Bugs Bunny cartoons were playing on TV on Saturday mornings when I was a child. 🙂 I’m old enough for that reference. lol!
Finding a big package of rolls of TP was a large part of the “successful” part of the trip. Hey, we all need the basics. And they had boxes of tissues, too, which we use a *lot* of during allergy season. Now we have our OTC allergy meds for eyes and nose and such, too, so we’re all right.
Definitely tired of the rain. However, with the cooler weather I can keep wearing a few winter favorite perfumes, so there is that consolation. And I am finding out that some spring perfumes also work well in this crazy weather we are having.
Well, there’s the silver lining for you. 🙂
I looked for a while through my perfume samples for perfume houses starting with “S.” I found Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely. I think it’s very pleasant. I also found a couple of Slumberhouse samples that some generous NST person sent me. (Thank you!) I’ll try them sometime, too.
My governor extended our shutdown until May 15th today, but loosened some restrictions. I’m not complaining, since I don’t want to be around people.
Today I wore No.18, then later Versace the Dreamer, since I was in my son’s room having him teach me how to electronically sign something for school. To be clear, I didn’t actually learn how before I shouted just do it for me!
Now, I’m in Tam Dao.
? Cute! You smell great!
I feel your pain! We had to sign electronically for real estate documents. Not fun!
I’ve had to do a fair bit of e-signing documents in the past couple of years. It can be a PITA.
Ha! Good learning strategy ?
Love this!
?
Very late tonight and not in an S perfume, but feeling very cozy on a rainy night in Bengale Rouge.
Cold and rainy here too.
Y’all!!! I’m actually participating AND commenting today! SIP Magazine Street for me today. I really enjoy that one. Just have a sample but I’ll be sad when it’s gone.
Happy Friday, everyone! Hugs!
You smell great KellyC!
Well, I completely flunked the Friday project, because I wore 1) Miller Harris’ Geranium Bourbon as my SOTD, then 2) Jicky EDT as a bedtime scent. I’m in something of a rose mood these days because I have several now in bloom in my garden, and most of them are very fragrant. I’ve recently enjoyed trying (and looking at!) Halston Woman Amber, which has the most beautiful gold-tone bottle (same Elsa Peretti design as the original Halston). Definitely a bargain beauty!
