Monday scent of the day 4/20

Posted by Robin on 20 April 2020 227 Comments

Sechseläuten is cancelled, but it's still Banana Day and Weed Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in a lovely fragrance I'd pretty much forgotten, Strange Invisible Perfumes Likewise. (And I cannot find it on their website, but PSA, they are currently doing 20% off and free shipping in the US.)

Reminder: on 4/24, wear a perfume by Santa Maria Novella, Sonoma Scent Studio, Smell Bent, S-Perfumes or Strange Invisible Perfumes if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter S.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SotD = Grandiflora Queen of the Night

Smells like lilacs to me. :D Also a little soapy, must be the aldehydes, then a lot of musk plus pepper and loads of other notes.

Woke up super early this morning, the first time since WFH started over a month ago. I feel a nap will be coming on later today.

    Happy Schmunday, NSTers.

also Paris is nine hours ahead of me here, so as some people say, “It’s 4:20 somewhere.” I think I’ll have a croissant. :D

My husband said he woke up at 5:30, so it must be catching! Do take a nap.

my kids napped until they went to Kindergarten, it was a nice thing, then they “paid me back” with sleepless nights as teenagers. Love them no matter what tho! :D

I do not have any scents from these houses. Actually, I have only two scents that qualify for partial credit, and I will save them for Thursday and Friday.

Wearing Kenzo Parfum d’Ete. Spring flowers in the bottle.

I love Kenzo perfumes. Such pretty fragrances…. I remember working at Dillard’s back in the 1990s when this was first released, I have the original leaf-shaped bottle.
While my favorites at the time were Shiseido Feminite du Bois and Angel, I found the delicate florals over a woody base compelling.

I love both the old and new leaf bottles, although I know only the new version. Frankly, it was the bottle that first made me interested in Parfum d’Ete, but then I grew to like the fragrance itself.

I used to wear several Kenzo flowers about 15 years ago – Flower, Parfum d’Ete, L’Eau par Kenzo… Now I wear Elephant and Parfum d’Ete (again!).

Happy Monday all! My SOTD is Tatiana by Diane von Furstenberg bath oil, just a few dabs. I love the white floral notes – I can’t pick any one out over the other, but Fragrantica lists notes as: hyacinth, orange blossom, gardenia, jasmine, narcissus, rose, tuberose, musk, sandalwood, and amber.
I love this perfume, it was a favorite in H.S., but I have a good 10 sneezes before my poor nose acclimates to the tuberose.

It’s a cold-ish, grey and rainy day here in these ancient mountains. The pines are dripping and the dogwood blooms have been beaten to the ground by the rain. No sign of my fat woodchuck friend this morning either. Everything seems to be sleeping.

I’m wearing SL Chergui to warm things ups. Good day for chores and other mundane and boring activities.

I had a box delivery the other day. The postal guy came up to the porch for about 2 steps as I opened the door. He never delivers here, so he was asking me how long I’d be staying so he had an idea of how long to add me to his route. I told him about three months and that I was a travel nurse working at the local hospital.

I never saw anyone move so fast! He did a 180 as he was walking up the steps, ran back to his mail car, throwing over his shoulder, “Thanks for what you do!” and kicked up gravel as he hit the gas in his hurry to be gone. Pretty sure I will never see him again. He’ll probably leave packages down by the mailbox from now on…?

I was participating in a Zoom get-together last night with some colleagues, and they were telling me about this sort of weird backlash against health care folks. I guess the bright side is that people are taking this seriously (I mean, when we’re not talking about the other people, who are going around throwing parties and/or protesting).

Oh, it’s very nice of people to clap. But it would be nicer if they could throw PPE to those that really need it. It could be a new take on Mardi Gras- instead of beads, throw N95’s and PPE! So fun! And just for the heck of it, why don’t we add test kits?!

Oh yeah, we have none of the above …?

I ordered from my favorite tea company, Celestial Seasonings. Thought I would support them as they have me through their soothing teas over the years. I am looking forward to trying Lemon Lavender Lane:).

Tea of the mornin has been Watermelon Lime Zinger, CS.

I am commando atm. Other than drying hand sanitizer..I am getting man hands lately from all the cleaning and chemicals I put on my hands. Lol.

Monday again. The busiest day of my week. At least, though, I’ve only got another 3 of these to go before my official summer starts (I teach at a community college). I tell you, I can hardly wait. Transitioning some of my classes to online delivery has kept me hopping, even more than usual.

In other good news, today is my birthday, which means I am that much closer to retirement! Yay! I’ve got 4 Zoom meetings scheduled throughout the day, which sucks, but I plan to be extra fragrant for all of them. Not 30 sprays fragrant (I bow down), but at least 4 hefty spritzes. I’m thinking something bright and cheery, like Ciel d’Opale, or Osmanthe Yunnan. Maybe Ciel d’Opale in the morning, then Osmanthe Yunnan in the afternoon. Or, I could get with the program and find my Strange Invisible Perfume’s Magazine Street, which I got in a swap with one of you fabulous folks a few years back. Appropriately celebratory.

Like I’d been ignoring her for months (as I have). I said, “oh, hello”, and she said, “oh, so you DO remember me”. Okay, she’s a little tart. ;)

We seldom do in April, but this year spring definitely came early! We usually get rain until after Rose Festival, which happens at the beginning of June. I’m betting it will be canceled this year though. :(

Wearing Jorum Studio Phloem. Went for a sniff down my bottles this morning deciding what to wear, and didn’t get past the second one.

It’s. So. GOOD. Instant mood pickup!

Nasturtium is apparently quite weedy and invasive, so yay for Weed Day, as it’s the note I think really makes this perfume addictive!

    SotD is The Black Knight.

It still feels kinda weird to be very busy with work while not being at the office. I dont know if I will be able to get used to this situation like its normal. Then again, I am coping better than last week.

anyways, I am so glad Ive created a small work space in a separate room.
But I HAD to. My husband also works from home and we both have to make phone/video calls all day long. So sitting in the same room was NOT an option.

I’m actually beginning to adjust a little to the new protocols at work.
I do feel very restless at home though. Not being able to see any friends is not great, to say the least.

I can see how just being stuck at home in one space all of the time is tough. Even though my work brings a higher risk of exposure to the virus, it is nice to be able to keep work and home separate.

I can imagine its nice to still be able to ‘go to work’ (leaving the house that is)

Right now I even start to miss the silly small things like missing a train…and then hanging around in te ‘kiosk’ to kill time, looking for a snack ?

You know what I would love to do? Just go to a snackbar and get some really crap frietjes with mayo.

          It’s missing normality I suppose.

Even after this lock down will end I don’t think our lives will quickly become normal again. But I’m sure you will be able to miss plenty more trains and look for plenty more snacks in the near future :)

I really sympathize with you on this, Jiji! I never took advantage of telework before I retired because I did not want my home to become associated with my stressful job. Also, I was getting my 10,000 steps a day through my commute.

You’ve done the right thing in creating a new space for working at home that you can dismantle when you’re done with that someday.

I am at work earlier than normal. Being an “essential” worker is strange. More stuff is coming down from corporate that they want people from the perishable departments to be in the general grocery are helping the stockers with cleaning and stocking. Thing is my asthma makes me high risk and that’s not doable and said so. The boss doesn’t seem to care but I don’t have the means to stay home. I will be calling people to give them an earfull. Wearing no 5 today.

There have been articles recently indicating that asthma may not be the risk factor it was originally assumed to be:

      https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/16/health/coronavirus-asthma-risk.html

That’s not much consolation for moving into a higher risk area, and I imagine the smelly disinfectants themselves might be irritating, but I hope it might ease the worry a little?

I agree about weather and this perfume. There’s a definite cut off day when I can’t wear it any longer–heat, humidity. I’ve never specifically identified cucumber but I can see that. I get lilac, an aquatic note and a couple of others that are quieter and elusive.

I tried EDP years ago (twice or thrice), and do not remember it very well. But I distinctly remember that it was sweeter than EDT and had some fruity notes. EDT (which I own and wear) is not sweet at all (moss, bergamot, hyacinth – something between mossy citrus and floral chypre).
I do not really remember how Eau Verte smelled, only my general impression that it was less complex than EDT. Maybe no moss but more citrus?

I agree with everyting Glannys said. The edt has the most forceful character, although the edp lasts longer. It’s considerably sweeter and more floral. It lacks the crispness and the focus of the EDT.
Robin has done a great and very humorous review of both. Hence the mention of impostor.

I cannot remember Cristalle Eau Verte, though I have tried it. I think that says it all ;)

Have you read Robin’s review of Cristalle?

Actually, the edp is perfectly nice, but it bears very little resemblance in a way to the original edt. And I can see that if you have a strong attachment to the edt, that the edp feels wrong, for want of a better word.

My own bottle is more than 10 years old, probably closer to 12 -13 and still smells pretty mossy.

I made a discovery recently that surprised me. I was wearing SSS Yin & Ylang (a new favorite!) on my right hand, and someone mentioned PG Indochine. I’d sort of forgotten about that scent and wanted to smell it again, so I put some on my left hand.

The combination was intriguing, counterintuitive, and maddeningly familiar. My first thought was that it was almondy, like the scent of an almond croissant, but without any of the sharpness that almond extract can have.

The next day, I concluded that it reminded me of FM Eau d’Hiver. I haven’t had a chance to do a side by side test to confirm or refute this hypothesis, but will try to do it this week.

I have a laptop set up in my living room, but I just feel that ‘work’ mindset is completely invading my home!

In other news – Zoom and the ridiculous way they allow scheduling in 15 minute increments but having a 40-minute restriction on free accounts; boo hiss. With the amount of cross-selling (to me), they should pay me for having to click out of the helpful suggestions. That said, I know the cost is < $15 / month which can be split amongst the users but we will probably only use it 2x per month so really not worth it (I would rather donate the money). I will be doing what Undina does which is schedule 2-3 consecutive sessions.

As to the Community Project, I have a lot of one of the named perfume houses; however, because I am not happy with the tone the new owner used in responding to several inquiries. I will still wear the perfumes (they’re really good and most of mine were from Laurie), but I will no longer mention the house here nor on Insta. I could change my mind about not posting the perfume but my opinion on the customer service will probably stay as I thought it was during our first exchange last year.

No specific theme this week but of course as soon as I typed that I’m thinking of wearing other Ss or wearing the house that shall no longer be named and still post an IG link that’s not my SOTD.

I’m grateful to have SSS back. I wouldn’t have Yin & Ylang or three samples I hadn’t tried before, or feel free enjoying my treasured Tabac Aurea, if it weren’t for that.

Today I’m wearing TF Ombre Leather and I have to clean the oven. I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday, and as I was moving the sheet pans I got distracted for a minute and the parchment paper and the cookies accordioned off the pan and onto the floor and inside the door and window of the oven. I scraped up what I could (really ugly cookies, but they taste okay) and now I have the baked on dough to remove.

I wore Ombre Leather last weekend and two young women working in our local grocery store complimented me on my fragrance ?

This is partly why I switched from parchment paper to silicon mats. They work great and don’t budge!

I started out being twins with tiffanie, in Queen of the Night. Switched to No.19 just now as I was craving green, and had to check on my unemployment. I ran up to the pharmacy earlier and scored 75% off Easter candy, 4 bags for under 4 dollars! Including sour patch kids!

And I meant to respond to your question re: my No. 19 EDP bottle…probably won’t be thunked until late next year due to other perfumes that I also enjoy wearing but you know which one is my one true love. Is there a song?

On Easter candies – Target still had them at 50% off only this last Saturday so I am holding out.

Good morning, I hope all of you and your families are doing OK in these strange times. I’m starting the day with Annick Goutal’s Un Matin d’Orage. It’s one I bought quite early in my perfume days, and I don’t wear it very often. Each time I do, I wonder why not.

SOTD is Pacifica Waikiki Pikake roll on version.I prefer the solid perfume, the scent is softer.
I’ve been binge watching Schitt’s Creek the past week and trying to imagine Moira’s fragrance choices! It would have to be something fairly dramatic, definitely not a skin scent.

My SOTD is LL Poivre 23 for which I somehow have multiple little samples. I sprayed n a lot. This is one of my favorites from the line. It’s got a bold pepper and nice sweet wood smell. I could swear there is immortelle too. Not much happening here today. I need to go put for a walk but am feeling very lazy. It was so humid yesterday that even though I managed to walk for an hour I kept thinking I would pass out.

Blasted myself with Heure Exquise this morning. It was beautiful for about 3 hours.

I was so busy today that I didn’t even respray myself. Inspired by my junk-food treat of SuperNibs, I will spray on some Reglisse Noire for my last bit of the day.

Commando so far perfume-wise, but I’ll probably go with something with lavender at bedtime. Or just Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender hand therapy. :)

Daily life stuff: I had a fairly successful trip to Wegman’s today. It wasn’t terribly cold, and I had lots of layers on, so I was okay waiting outside for a little while. My mask helped keep me warm. The fellow in front of me pulled down his bandanna and had a cigarette while waiting. Six feet away downwind, I started coughing from my tobacco smoke allergy, despite my mask, and got stared at for coughing. I really thought about saying something about being allergic to cigarette smoke, but figured it wasn’t worth it.

Once I got in it was nice having only so many shoppers in the store. Sometimes it took me a bit of looking down aisles to figure out where things were, as I’m not terribly familiar with the store and they’ve moved things around again. People were pretty good, although one man darted in front of me as I tried to figure out where in the prepackaged meat and cheese deli section the roast beef was. I was reading package labels as fast as I could, but the packages of sliced meat all looked the same. Oh, well.

I found a bunch of foods we’d been wanting for a while, though, so that was good. Most people seemed to be doing the self-checkout while I was checking out, so I didn’t need to wait long for a cashier. I like that they disinfect the conveyor belt and around the area between people.

Also today, I got the summer-blooming bulbs I’d ordered in February. I managed to plant the irises soon after getting home. I’ll try to plant the lilies on the next warmish day we have here.

    Take care!
