Another Blursday, plus Jacques Brel's birthday. RIP John Prine and Bucky Pizzarelli. What fragrance are you wearing?
This morning's pick from the Hermès drawer: Rose Ikebana.
Reminder: 4/10 is Siblings Day. Wear two fragrances that might be siblings, or wear one and tell us about the other, or wear a fragrance that your sibling wears, or interpret this project in any way you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Scent of 6am was TDC Santo Incienso Sillage Sacré. Sample thunked. Not my cup of tea since it smells masculine on me.
Now I am wearing Naomi Goodsir Bois D’Ascese. More smoke and less incense than I was expecting. I am ok with it, but once the sample is gone I will not miss it.
Cool, grey, rainy day. Coffee to the rescue. Stay well NSTers!
Ha! I sent you that one because I thought you would love it ?
I didn’t love, but it was ok. Just too masculine on me. But I finished it! ?
I hope later you will spray something you love ???
I know! I am thinking about wearing Copal Azur, which you know I Iove, love, love! ???
Gucci by Gucci EDP
Earl Grey tea double strength
I was going to ask which Gucci by Gucci the one with brown juice or the one with the brown bottle? Realized either way, you smell fantastic ?
Brown bottle. Brown juice one in the hefty glass was thunked about 20; years ago LOL ?
I have to say that I was planning on saving this bottle for fall/winter but I tested it last night in the warm evening and it smelled amazing! No guava or patchouli in the heat but rather a creamy tiara flecked honeyed musk. I find my skin does better with cold weather fragrances in the heat. Another reason for me to wear Winter Woods ( and now this one) in the summer.
If we ever get back to work it will be a safe to wear to work fragrance.
Interesting! I’m going to put some of it on later and see if I get tiare flower. It’s usually pretty fruity/patchouli on me.
Tresor, from my new 1oz bottle. Oldie but goodie. Thanks for the kind words yesterday, it’s been a bluey week in general, for several reasons.
After seeing that Demeter ad for PBnJ..I definitely will he having a sandwich today lol. Perhaps a toasted one. Mmm:)
It cooled here a bit..chance of rain is likely.
Anyone recommend a good incense line/scent?
You smell great! Tresor has been a staple in my collection for many years!
I am doing a week of incense and may continue for a couple of more weeks, just in case you want to check. I love Comme des Garcons Incense Series, being Avignon my favorite from the line.
I will join in a while with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I am curious now about the Demeter scent. I will try it if I see it later at any store.
Love a PB&J 🙂 I recommend the incense line from Commes des Garcons too, Kyoto being my favorite, but CdG has other incense perfumes that I really like: CdG 2, Blue Encens, Black. Etro Shaal Nur, Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil, SSS Incense Pure, YSL Nu are others that come to mind and I’m sure there are more. Happy hunting!
Great incense suggestions! So many perfumistas say Un Jardin sur le Nil has a great incense note, however I cannot smell it at all. I wonder if the note is more noticeable in colder weather. I usually wear it during late spring and summer time.
I can’t smell any incense in it either.
Perhaps, we are we anosmic too it! ?
I read these comments and my first thought was “There’s incense in it? Really???” Glad to hear I’m not alone.
I don’t remember smelling incense from the Hermes, interesting:)
I agree!
I do NOT get any kind of incense from garden sur le nil.
Glad to hear there are some of us here that do NOT get incense in Sur le Nil. I was already wondering if it was just me.
Good suggestions already mentioned above
Id like to add:
My sotd: Messe de minuit (see below)
Bois d’encens, by Armani, expensive but seriously good
If you dont mind using attars: Incense royale and Nankun Kodo by Sultan Pasha Attars
Also:
Fille en Aiguilles, Serge lutens (it also smells like pine and other stuff, but incense is prominent)
I’m helping edit a podcast about cooking with what’s in your kitchen during the pandemic (www.homecooking.show!) and they mentioned pb&js and I basically got up, went to the kitchen, and ate one IMMEDIATELY.
lol:).
I also bought that Demeter scent pretty much immediately. I am on a serious pb&j kick and Demeter dropped that one at the perfect time I guess lol. I hope it’s yummy!
I can’t find any bread of any kind around here. No bread, muffins, tortillas, pitas, naan, no nothing. No yeast either. Often no flour.
I love the Comme de Garcon x Monocle incenses: Hinoki is my favorite, but also Laurel and Sugi are really good.
Oh and also probably my very favorite incense perfume is Neela Vermeire’s Trayee. A lot of things going on there, but it’s very incensey to me.
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant smells like a church in Provence, it’s my favorite incense.
At first I thought you wanted incense recommendations to burn, so I got out all my boxes and realized you mean perfume, of course! HA!
SotD is Messe de Minuit.
Busy at work, will check in later to read comments! ?
Beautiful incense perfume! You smell wonderful!
MdM is a favorite of mine. You smell incredibly good.
You smell wonderful, that’s one of my favorites too.
House twins.
I am on-brand 😉 in Solstice Scents Nightgown…notes are Vanilla, White Chocolate, Tuberose & Tiare Flowers.
LOL — love it.
Oh well done.
Oooh you sound like you smell dreamy!
I must congratulate the USA for inventing the PB&J – it is marvellous!
I’m reading Maurice by EM Forster atm and it’s wonderful.
I am going to have a bath in my rituals – Sakura cherry blossom bath in honour of the blossom at our window but I am currently commando.
As to sibling scents, my sister buys something new every time.
She was wearing D and G the only one recently. Chocolate gourmand as I recall. Unfortunately, I’m not sure when I’ll next get to see her. A lot of us are in the same boat I’m sure.
I’ll probably wear Lolita lempicka for her as its the only gourmand I own.
I have never read Maurice, I should see if I can get it from the library.
I’m so glad I got to see both of my sisters just before we all went on isolation, because yes, who knows?
I bought a thick volume of EM Forster books at a library book sale over the winter and haven’t touched it 🙁 am having a hard time concentrating enough to read a book these days.
Following in hajusuuri’s footsteps — or better, sillage — with SSS Rose Volupte. Appropriate for the vintage pocket watch browsing I am doing on ebay. How amazing is it that one could acquire a watch from the 1700s for less than $1,000?

Nice, thanks nozknoz!
And a word to the wise cat owner working from home ?

I really do not see what the problem is. ?
(During virtual meetings of my choir, we routinely show off our cats.)

Ha! Cute ?
Beautiful sunny day but still feeling very anxious. Wearing NG Iris Cendré to try and soothe myself. The muscles in my sternum are sore so I’m giving myself frequent massages. I think that’s where my fear is expressing itself lately.
So sorry you are feeling anxious cazaubon.
I think I cycle in and out of anxiety…when it gets bad, I meditate for a bit. But I don’t seem to be making myself do yoga as often as I should.
Thank you, and to everyone who has replied. I did my yoga class today which helped a bit. Now just focusing on my final preparations for Passover tonight.
NG Iris Cendre is very calming to me too. I bought it blind after reading the beautiful NST review of it – monks, tobacco, earth, iris. Now I am transported to a beautiful French monastery in spring whenever I smell it.
Anxiety is entirely justified now, and I’m it’s unabated.
One thing I do when anxiety is bad is to make lists of all the things worrying me, jot down things I can do to prepare or cope better with each of them, and then do a task or two. Getting things on paper gets them out of my head to some extent and makes them seem a bit more manageable.
(I’m sorry it’s unabated)
It’s pretty much all about sickness and possible death. My focus on it goes in and out. Trying to keep my focus on other things.
I think I was lucky to break my arm at the end of February. It has given me something else compelling to focus on. I’m NOT recommending this approach to others, though! ?
I hope the anxiety fades some, so you can enjoy the sunshine today.
I took the puppy out for a walk. It was cold and windy but nice to get out for a few minutes.
My anxiety lives in various body parts too cazaubon, so I feel you. I hope the Iris Cendre and the massaging helps.
I’m sorry cazaubon 🙁
If you have a foam roller or even just want to stack/roll up some stuff to approximate one, it can be very relieving and passively relaxing to just lay tummy-up on the foam roller so it’s supporting your upper back and head, and put your arms out to the sides palms-up, Jesus style, for about 10 minutes to decontract the chest muscles!
Circus artists get this exercise recommended all the time because so many of us overwork that area and despite it not being “intense” it really helps!
Sorry for the stress!
I do have one of those, will give it a try thanks!
Sorry about the anxiety, cazaubon. And feel you on the pain. I’m having that now except directly behind (my mid-upper back).
My sympathies to you too.
I carry fear and stress in the muscles of my neck. I’m normally a normal-looking woman, but lately my neck has started to look like Henry Rollins’.
Iris Cendre is gorgeous. I remember thoroughly loving my sample. What a great choice for a stressful time!
Usually it’s in my neck & jaw too, but now the chest is joining the party too. I think because Covid is a respiratory disease.
My anxiety lives in my chest. I get a shortness of breath. With this going on, I’m now constantly checking on my breathing.
Exactly – plays right into your anxiety. I actually saw a video on facebook last week about how to tell symptoms of anxiety vs. covid.
SOTM is MFK Aqua Celestia, sprayed with abandon. It may or may not last to noon – I’m experimenting, seeing if copious sprayings give it increased longevity. In any event, it’s very pretty and should last to at least the beginning of my zoom pilates session this morning. I’ve been saying this to basically everyone lately, but thank goodness for technology!
Did it make it?
I thought it was gone by the time I was done with the pilates session, but now, hours later, I can still smell the tiniest bit of it. So yes, I think it did make it!
🙂
Wearing Ormonde Jayne Tiare and Chanel Cristalle for the sibling CP.
They smell quite different side to side, but the resemblance is there.
Interesting!
Wearing Olene. I’ve really been in a jasmine-y mood lately. But the house smells like Rhinoceros, because my husband sprayed it several rooms away and that is just how Rhinoceros works.
olene is gorgeous:)
I ❤️ Olene, too!
I was trying to find a reference for something I think I remember but could be a trick of the mind, namely, that Beyonce used to ask her housekeeper to have Olene candles burning throughout the house when she came home.
What I found was this 2009 Diptyque time capsule on a style blog that appears to have stopped updating in 2013:
https://superqueen.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/the-charm-of-the-unfamiliar-diptyque-exotic-scents/
Another lover of Olene too, you smell wonderful, I got a bottle last quarter and am so happy with it.
Olene is just lovely. What a great choice. How is it playing with the Rhinocerous?
Rhinoceros doesn’t play so much as trample! But it faded after an hour or so ?
Hello friends, I smell wonderful this morning in Passage d’Enfer. I will be all out of this beauty in just a few more uses 🙁 which is sad because it was one of my very first perfume loves.
Thanks to everyone who suggested I stop trying to keep up with the personal projects while also still working and dealing with Coronavirus stress! I had a bit of a breakdown last night (you know, lying flat on my back on the floor crying), which reminds me that doing a Yoga with Adriene video each morning is perhaps insufficient for my mental health. Sending positive vibes to you all. Stay well, friends!
Hope you recover emotionally, it’s a bad time, don’t stress yourself too much. We will get out of this some time. Be patient
Thank you, tannina, excellent advice that I will try to follow! Sending you de-stressing vibes back <3
It’s important to let yourself have those breakdowns, and let it all out. Sometimes you’ve gotta cry and lie on the floor.
Ahhh too true. I’m sensing a few more of those episodes to come in the coming weeks, unfortunately. Thank you, missionista.
Koyel, I m with missionista. Sometimes you just need to lie on the floor and cry. “Tears in my ears” as a poem by . . . someone . . . has it. But I do hope the feelings lift a little. It is extremely hard in these times.
It was a song written by Harold Barlow. From wikipedia:
“Harold Barlow (15 May 1915, Boston, Massachusetts – 15 February 1993, Manhasset, Long Island, New York) was an American songwriter, and later a consultant on plagiarism.
He studied violin at the University of Boston, graduating in 1937.
His song “The Things I Love” (1941) was recorded by Jimmy Dorsey, Dizzy Gillespie and Harry James. He served in World War II as a bandleader. Probably his best-known song was “I’ve Got Tears in My Ears” (1949) recorded by Homer and Jethro. He also wrote the English lyrics for “Mama”, best known as a 1960 hit song for Connie Francis.”
First line of the lyrics goes: “I’ve got tears in my ears from lyin’ on my back in my bed while I cry over you”
It’s possible I have too much time on my hands. 🙂
Yeah but I love that kind of research, thanks!
Ah! Thanks! I will look that up.
Too much time can have a silver lining 🙂
Thanks to you and SheriG for introducing me to this song! What a perfect line. The feeling of tears in my ears is one I know well.
Today is better than yesterday was! And yes, lots of difficult days ahead. And I am nearly as lucky as one can be :-/
Just take one thing at a time, dear Koyel.
PS I can send you a little PdE, let me know ❤️
Thank you, ringthing <3 oh gosh, that's so sweet of you! I will email you. I hope you are doing right now, in this challenging time!
Omg laying on the floor crying is totally a reasonable coping mechanism too sometimes!
I’ve regularly had at least one big old cry per week for the past several weeks, I think my body needs to just express that anxiety sometimes.
It still sucks though, and I’m sorry! Hope that today feels a little bit better.
Oh teebear, sending you a hug for your big old weekly cries <3 I agree, sometimes that anxiety just needs a way out! We are in this together; best wishes getting through the rest of this.
Echoing everyone’s sentiment. That sounds really cathartic and therapeutic.
I think it was! Hope you are holding up ok <3
Big virtual hugs to you. However much you do is enough. You smell amazing.
Thank you, sistine <3 sending you hugs back.
Crying is cathartic. I laid my head in my husband’s lap and sobbed for a couple of minutes just this morning. Sending you lots of hugs.
Awww <3 Hope the sobbing helped. Sending hugs back <3
I’m in l’Elephant today and am completely lacking any kind of motivation. Plenty to do, but no will to do a single thing. Maybe T-Rex and I will just spend the day snuggled on the couch…
Feeling for the nurses in Detroit who walked out due to unsafe staffing ratios. I wonder if they are part of a union? Amazing how administration can find agency nurses after something like this, but couldn’t find any prior to the walkout.
Also read that many people are dying at home, and therefore “in hospital” deaths are decreasing, leading to false decreasing death trends. In reality the overall death rate is going up, because people are dying at home and are left out of the data…
I feel ya on that one..lots maybe I should do or start to do? But darn it, motivation itself seems overwhelming lol. And then I just wanna watch Netflix and have corn dogs lol. My cats have been snuggly, which is nice on a gloomy day.
A close friend of 35+ years was sent home after a COVID-19 related hospital stay. They told him he’d be fine. Unfortunately for him, they were wrong. He died at home, alone. He’d be tickled his passing received a Page 6 mention (NY Post).
I am very sorry, hugs??
Oh no, this is so sad. Government, insurance companies and hospitals have failed dramatically with this disease. I’m so sorry.
Sorry. Sending hugs.
Oh no, that’s bad!
Oh I am so sorry!
Oh, so sad, and so very sorry for your loss.
Omg what a senseless way to go. I’m very sorry for your loss.
This is so sad, hope you will find comfort in that long friendship. Hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing.
Oh how sad. I am so sorry for your loss.
I am sorry you have lost a close friend.
Oh my goodness. I’m so very sorry.
You smell great. Thanks for the beautiful poetry – please keep posting!
Yeah, Deva, I have to say at this point I believe nothing I read, as the lack of testing and the lack of proper recording of deaths makes everything feel unreliable. So the flying blind just continues. And the lack of proper protection for health care workers and others is infuriating. Not sure how to stay motivated in the situation.
I’m amazed how unsupportive some institutions are STILL during this time.
My own facilities has a 60% reduction in staff from sick calls. I think had they been more supportive and provided masks earlier on, they could have avoided this. They gave 2 new hires (new grads!) a 2 day orientation and sent them to work at our smaller satellite facility ?
T-Rex snuggles sound amazing.
Terrible situation. I hope the death certificates at least accurately reflect Covid and not just pneumonia, so the real statistics can some day be known.
In the mood for for something with presence–Une Fleur de Cassie it is. Am bereft about John Prine. Another great song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzCjQwt2rgI
Somewhere in the bowels of this house is a box of old cassettes and a wonderful mixed tape an friend made for me decades ago–with John Prine heavily featured. I know it is not original, but I LOVE Angel from Montgomery– also Speed of the Sound Loneliness…
My SOTD yesterday.
The news that he’d passed away kicked a hole through my soul this morning. It feels like the light of the world has dimmed.
I am feeling much less anxious today after talking to my psychologist on the phone yesterday. Watching less the news!
Put some nice clothes, watched FM Live about perfume ingredients on Insta.
I am wearing Portrait oil.
Stay well and healthy.
I have cut my news consumption WAY down, and I am expected to be pretty informed for work. But there is work, and then there is getting through the day. Can’t do my work if I can’t’ get through the day.
Glad you are feeling better, I avoid news as much as possible.
This is precisely what saved me 3+ weeks ago, several days after France (where we live) went into “confinement” (aka strict stay in your house regulations). I’d been gobbling news and started spiralling. Put myself on a strict no news regime, and boy, the difference. Can’t avoid it entirely, and my son and husband still read/listen to/watch everything. But it’s a bit muffled for me. And that makes all the difference. I can’t recommend it highly enough as a very very effective coping strategy!
I have cut my news too..I hardly read the WSJ and we don’t have cable so that is out too..
In a few spritzes of Le Labo’s Rose 31, from my new bottle. Yes, it’s changed since 2007. Less cumin-y, but I don’t mind. Longevity’s still pretty darn good. Stay safe everyone!
Jealous of your new Rose 31:) You smell fab.
Why thank you. 🙂 The significant other rarely comments on any of the fragrances I wear but this one, he loves. I’m glad to have it back in the collection after such a long absence!
About to get in the shower and spent time with Chanel no 22. Tried calling a friend today to see how he was handling the shelter in place. The recording i got was the number was either disconnected or the number changed, so I don’t know. I texted his dad to see what happened but haven’t received a reply. My friend is in a group home and I wonder if he ran afoul with his dad with the cell phone and had it taken away.
Oh dear, worrying. I hope that he is ok.
I hope his dad gets in touch with you soon.
I hope you find out what’s up soon!
Was pawing through some samples and decants looking for Climat, but my eye fell on Hermès Muguet Porcelaine instead. I’m gonna thunk this sample throughout the day by replenishing and pouring it on me…
Warmest wishes to those observing Passover. May the circumstances we are facing today give it extra meaning for you and your loved ones.
I think that will be my Friday scent?
I should have said Happy Passover (or Zoomover, I saw that in the headlines today) in the post, thank you for saying it LizzieB!
Happy Passover to you too! May we have a speedy redemption from this current plague.
SOTD Fiori di Capri
Anakreon 570 BC
Weaving a garland long ago,
somehow I found Eros
there among the roses
I clutched him by this wings
and thrust him into wine
and drank him quickly
And ever since, deep inside,
I feel the wings of Eros
gently tickling
I couldn’t find this one on the internet so I had to type it out, hope you enjoy it!
I love it! ?
Thank you for typing it out and sharing!
Beautiful! I wouldn’t mind being dunked on wine myself…?
In*
I think I might pay to see someone dunk you on wine ?
me too!
Oh I love that ❤️
You smell lovely!
Such a lovely poem which could have been written in any century.
Fantastic, thank you for typing!
Lovely! Thank you for typing it out for us 🙂
Another wonderful one, I see the wings flutter in the wine goblet and feel the flutter!!
Very cool.
I need some wine in a goblet, giant glass…anything!!!
Chanel 31 rue Cambon today. Trying to wear perfumes with more sillage that I can’t get away with at work any longer (the place I’ve been for the last 18 months is basically scent-free, but I sneak some in when I’m not going to be in one of the scent-free zones). The advantages of working from home. Now off to work…
Enjoy the wafting!
hmmm..you smell lovely
Florabotanica from a small decant I recently bought. Such a nice green and crisp smelling minty rose. I like it a lot.
Thank God the weather is good and we have a big balcony and cold white wine to enjoy outside
Oh that is lovely. We had a sunny day here yesterday and I spent as much of it outside as I could while WFH. The sun always helps.
And such a gorgeous bottle!
Yes, looks prerry, and it’s quite cheap at the moment
It is 9C but windy and feels colder here in Montréal. Rain moving in for the next few days.
We’ll try to send you some of our Vancouver sun that we’ve had this week.
So far commando, as I’m about to do an at-home yoga class, and then shower after. Something spring-y though, later today, I think. It looks beautiful outside.
I.WILL.DO.YOGA.TODAY.
Go Robin!!
Yeah, didn’t work out! But my husband and I took a long walk, and I took apart all the fans and cleaned them, and I did meditate. So things did happen, just not yoga. Tomorrow!!! Really!
Started out with a spritz of Ta’if, but it was not doing it for me this AM. Needed a bomb. Am now in By Killian’s Amber Oud, which I must have inherited from someone? Anyway, it works.
In the poetry vein, will pass along some lyrics from one of the greatest songs:
Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin’
Is just a hard way to go
Hmmm… I’ve developed a stutter.
Nah… It’s just a lyrical refrain?
*Blushes* 😉
**cured**
?
Love this!
Caleche Eau Delicate for a run to the drug store in some of my oldest, scruffiest clothes. At least I smell groomed (and expensive). Whenever I wear this, I think of the Upper East Side character in “The Nanny Diaries”. As though someone who is waifishly thin and wearing a twin set and pearls should be wearing this. Instead of me!
Love that one! Stay safe out there.
Hello! Blursday again. Still in some traces of lavender essential oil, applied to little cuts on my hands from yesterday’s gardening.
lavender is so calming. Your hands will heal in no time 🙂
Yes and yes. 🙂 Thank you!
I have some nice carded samples from Ormonde Jayne and I liked Champaca the best but noticed it had a haunting familiarity. Since we are talking about perfume siblings, Calvin Klein Truth is closely related. It is that bamboo note. So maybe one brother lives in London and is introspective and a botanist, Champaca, and the other brother lives in LA and dresses movie and tv show sets with plants, Calvin Klein Truth.
Ooh, an introspective English botanist sounds so dreamy!
Wearing Iris Perle today for the soothing as I have various Zoom meetings with anxious folks.
We are iris soothing twins. 🙂
It’s raining here, and work is still non-stop. I selected 10 Corso Como today, and it’s turning out to be perfect. Y’all probably understand that really great feeling when you spritz on a perfume, and it feels exactly right for your mood, your need, your outfit, your outlook, and your day ahead. Love that.
lillyjo, if you’re still online today, send me a holla at lisadarty in the land of the haute mayle. You were asking about Le Bain, so I’m gonna send you some!
Don’t you just love a perfect perfume day!
I love that perfect perfume feeling!
email sent, thanks!
I am also continuing wit my personal Hermes wearing project in Un Jardin après la Mousson.
You smell delicious!
SL week continues with L’Incendiaire. Smoky fruity mmm.
Here’s some humor for those who are WFH:
https://youtu.be/DYu_bGbZiiQ
HA!
Good morning all! Not much of the morning left however. I’m in Orris Tattoo from a sample vial I dumped all over myself. The earthiness reminds me of ISM.
Took the dog for a walk on this muggy, cloudy day. Will probably top off the OT with ISM soon. So, cp points for me!
Food of the Day: grilled burgers on hoagie rolls. Will also make meatballs for subs for tomorrow’s meal.
You smell amazing!!
I haven’t had much perfume mojo these days, but enjoying my scented products in the shower. My hair still smells a little like Lust Jungle today, which my husband says smells like patchouli.
I’m also worried about connecting some of my most worn perfumes to this time period. I’ve ruined some perfumes for myself in the past this way.
But, am wearing OJ Frangipani today, because I love it. Sister scent on my hand is Lolita Lempicka Elle L’Aime which is decidedly sweeter and synthetic smelling. Don’t hate it, but don’t love it.
Current nightly binge watching is Good Girls, which a friend recommended. Took me a few episodes to get into it, but it’s a fun watch.
Also, for anyone interested in joining in on Thursday 8pm edt. It’s a vigil to honor those who have died, or just to pay respect to the general suffering, global and personal, right now. There are some really wonderful collaborators, 2 of whom I’ve met in different contexts.
https://letsreimagine.org/togetheronthe9th
Thanks, Elisa P!
??
Thanks for the link! I already registered to join tomorrow.
❤ will be nice to know that people I know are there, too.
Thank you. What a wonderful idea.
?
Is the LL really coconuty?
More really sweet vanilla to me. White floral, a hint of lime, and vanilla. Maybe there’s a little coconut in there too.
I’m wondering about the same bad perfume mojo, so I haven’t been using my bottles lately, just samples.
That’s a good way to do it. My hand sanitizer, which smells like lavender and eucalyptus may put me off lavender for a while, eventhough it smells pretty great ?
Fortunately I don’t have much new, so pretty much everything I have in my drawer already has different mojo. I’ve been raiding my drawer with abandon! (But probably wouldn’t buy anything new now.)
Bvlgari au The Vert is my SOTD and I am drinking a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
Such a classic scent ? you smell great.
Much later, my after dinner tea is ginger lemongrass 🙂
I realized that I responded to some comments but didn’t post my sotd, which is L’Artisan Seville l’Aube, I love it so much. Having been in a state of torpor interspersed with flashes of panic for a few days, today is sunny and mild and I’m cleaning the house (except when I take a break and end up back on the internet again.) I absolutely hate to clean so I’m listening to my high school rock playlist really, really loud. It’s helping.
My high school playlists were pretty bad lol except my last years..I started to rock more.
1st year hs–Marky Mark, Paula Abdul, LL Cool J, Top Gun Soundtrack Lol.
2nd year- Country music, Paperboy and the Diddy lol. SWV lol. Bad Company and Brian Adams
3rd-Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Crow Soundtrack, Nine Inch Nails
4th year-More NIN, Ministry, Tori Amos, Oasis, Skinny Puppy lol.
(Something obviously happened to me mood wise from freshman yr to senior) lol
Well, I graduated in 77 lol so mine is about 6 hours long and has a lot of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John, ZZ Top, etc etc etc but also Supertramp, Genesis, Moody Blues, Eric Clapton…..I keep adding to it. Oh and lots of Queen that just can’t be played loud enough.
Bowie?
You Rock, ringthing?
Totally rockin’ playlist!
Great list!!!!
Hahahaha! The evolution to goth ? Good stuff!
lol yep I also had jet black hair for a few years with safety pinned shirts, pleather..etc haha
I feel you on the swinging emotions. I also find physical labor (vacuuming has become my friend) and music helpful. What a great soundtrack!
I hate cleaning too, so I’ve been baking and ironing instead. Music is a great distraction.
“Torpor interspersed with flashes of panic” is such a brilliant description of how I’ve been feeling—and probably many others!
Completely off CP today but my blind buy of Bis Rodin Olio Lusso (thanks eBay! Less than ⅓ of retail price) arrived today and after spraying the cello sealed perfume box with disinfectant, I couldn’t resist.
It is nothing like the description, but I love it. It’s marketed as a “classic green-violet-orris” and on me so far it’s intensely lavender, anise and jasmine with that nice ambergris base. I wanted it for the ambergris note and had heard the description didn’t reflect most people’s impression, so not disappointed. It does still give a very vintage impression.
Also happy because my other two lavender decants/samples – New Haarlem from Bond No 9 and Mon Guerlain – both felt a bit overwhelming on me. This one is just right!
Wow, that sounds great! I’m glad it’s such a great hit for you.
You get lavender from New Haarlem? All I got was coffee and syrup.
Lavender and vanilla on my skin seem to turn into a banshee – they yell VERY loudly when they’re together ?
The coffee in New Haarlem actually did reappear later in the night, after some of the banshee effect had worn off, and then that combined with the vanilla and tonka I can understand why some people said they got a maple syrupy note.
I don’t take sugar in my coffee so while that part of the development was more comfortable for me, it doesn’t scratch any particular itch.
Lovely weather, blue sky and white clouds and 23 degree celsius, I worked with the French window wide open. I am in the soft carnation Etro Dianthus.
Sounds like a great day?
Jealous of your french windows!
It’s the first day when we got such a high temperature, spring is definitely here, the French windows open on the balcony, I’m planning to have more potted plants to decorate it.
Happy Hump Day!
Home office tomorrow. Also last day at work before I leave on an Easter break.
Wearing Diptyque Eau Capitale.
How’s your mom’s re-entry back home?
She’s doing well and she misses her walks. The hospital had its own garden where she could go. Now that she’s home and with going out restrictions she’s staying home.
I’ve rewritten this comment three times and still sound grumpy, so I’m just going to say I’m wearing California Reverie today.
Dang, you smell great.
Grumps are a part of this whole process, so I don’t think you need to feel bad if you are or even just sound grumpy from time to time!
Plenty to be grumpy about. But you smell nice. 🙂
Feel free to rant here..your amongst perfume friends
?
I had a lovely bath this morning with my Chanel No 19 soap, then sprayed on vintage Chanel No. 19. Once I was dressed, I sprayed on some of the current edt on my shirt for extra good measure. I needed this for the 2 call-in meetings that our group had; nothing important, just annoying!
One of my grandmothers wore and loved Chanel No. 19. I gave her a bar of the soap for her last birthday before she died at age 96. She never used it so I have it now, still. It’s almost 15 years old. I keep it in a bureau drawer. Still smells very good.
Oh yes, you smell cool, competent and completely put together. Love No 19.
Wow..I am sure you smell gorgeous
I just reapplied ELdO’s Remarkable People for the third time – we’re in the 80s, so perfume is fleeting. Not a problem though, because I can commute into the other room to re-spritz pretty much whenever I want.
I started buying rollerballs in January because I could never reapply spray perfume during the day while teaching but could manage a quick roll. I didn’t think I was going to miss the hectic and rigid school schedule but I do. I’m a little bit worried about how I’ll react when we’re on Spring Break next week and I’ll have no scheduled obligations. I suspect I’ll feel untethered.
Happy Passover to everyone celebrating. Biggest hugs to all who are not able to be with those they would usually celebrate with.
Happy Passover to you too! Just the two of us home alone, will be joining the online seder via Zoom tonight.
La Rose de Rosine. God, I’m so stupid. I inadvertently changed something on my modem and was deprived off the internet for half an hour. Luckily I found the manual and have since remedied my inactivation of the WLAN button. I just love computers ?
If Hieronymous Bosch was alive today I am sure all his paintings would have images of people stuck in hell with computers and cell phones, or stuck on ‘call waiting’ and there would be ‘help desk’ devils everywhere
Yep! I love your choice of images. I sometimes wonder how people from say a few centuries ago would perceive today’s world.
Like wise I often wonder how people back in the day perceived and appreciated those old literary masterpieces.
I just felt really silly. I had worked out after about 15 minutes that the connection was fine as I could still use my phone. I then started looking for the box I keep in my attic with all sorts of telecom wires, plugs and what have you, when lo and behold I discovered a manual of my modem and another explaining (for dummies) about how to install ADSL. So I then proceeded to reconnect my computer to the world outside by pressing the WLAN button. It feels like a major achievement.
😉
lWow so many responses already, I have some fear reading to do post weeding.
SoTD: Chanel decant of lLes Eaux de Chanel Paris-Deauville.
I do really like this citrus and basil together with a brightness that feels so comfortable.
I am not sure of the longevity yet.
It feels light and crisp and clean.
It would perfect for a split meet.
Are they considering 30ml sizes?
host a split..
I haven’t smelled that one but it get a lot of love
I seem to be doing a patchouli week. It’ll be some patchouli siblings on Friday! SOTD is Les Ecuadors Patchouli, a heady sweet smooth blend.
My brother loves scents but has awful taste and oversprays. Probably because he is (unfortunately) a smoker. So I won’t be emulating him on Friday. Incidentally, he has many other very fine qualities!
Bonus for today—Gorgeous gardenias. It’s BWF time here with jasmine vines, big magnolia trees, and gardenia hedges all bursting into bloom! The air is soft, muggy, and fragrant!

Gorgeous!!
Happy Hump Day, Everyone! I hope that everyone is staying well and safe. My SOTD is My Burberry…..an oldie but a goodie.
Stay healthy friends!
And you scentfromabove!
The jasmine just outside the kitchen window is in full flower and, with the back door open, that heavenly fragrance is rolling through the house. Amazing!
I’m in Masque Milano Russian Tea. It opens all mint and pepper and tea tea tea, and then somehow a rising fruity raspberry blends with it all. It’s a funny perfume. Intellectually I don’t love it, but I sure enjoy it when I wear it. A beloved kindred spirit friend gifted a big bottle to me, so perhaps associations with her a part of why I incline towards it. It was a very warm day in Bordeaux today, so the mint was pleasantly refreshing. It is, in fact, a refreshing perfume!
Happy Passover to everyone who celebrates! Ordinarily we would probably be at a low key seder with local friends. But not this year.
Stay safe, everyone.
Once, when I was young, I ended up sleeping in the garden/ grounds of the Chateau at Duras…we arrived after dark . In the morning, around dawn, we sat up and looked at the huge chateau and it was so magical …one of my best Bordeaux memories.
Wow! How did you swing that? Were you just able to walk onto the property and lie down in the gardens?! I would LOVE to do that at one of the chateaux around (post-confinement, natch!), but not sure it’s feasible anymore. It sounds magical.
You smell wonderful, Russian Tea is beautiful and unusual. I was lucky to sample all of the Masque Milano scents, all were interesting to my nose even though I would not be comfortable wearing many of them. I liked Lucia ed Ombre and L’Attesa best. 🙂
It’s a very lovely perfume and I really appreciate the mint (which I think is a very difficult note to pull off well). I like it a lot! But it can’t hold a candle to my beloved Romanza (also MM)! I think l’Attesa is the powdery one? Is that right? I need to revisit that one. & I can’t remember what Lucia ed Ombre is like. Gosh, once confinement is over I’m sensing a Masque Milano spree.
I’ve been wearing Tuscan Leather today. It’s just about gone, so I’m going to wear Gucci by Gucci and be twins with cm8. Although, she probably moved on from it hours ago?
Howdy there! I hope your are managing your employment paperwork okay, without losing hope! I am thinking of you ( at least it’s not snowing!!)
Thank you! I’m actually pretty proud of myself for getting it all filled out by myself. I will let you know in 2 weeks if my efforts result in a bank deposit. Not snowing!?
Oh, Tuscan Leather, it’s such a great leather, so expensive smelling I always think.
Was woken by the dogs at four and I immediately got distracted making a mental list of my five favourite sounds in nature. It took hours
1. The sound of snow shushing off tree branches when cross country skiing through a forest
2. The sound of rain pelting down on a mirror-glass lake around dusk ( or at least in gloom)
3. The sound of grasshoppers when they are springing from snow grass high up in the mountains
4. The absolute, void of sikence on the McMurdo Ice Shelf
5. The sound of my dog shaking vigorously, from head to tail tip, after getting wet during a walk
6. The chorus of birds in the valley during late spring from my deck
Pretty nice eh? The spriffffff of perfume to get me out of bed: Daim Blond
This is a splendid list. Absolutely beautiful!
Last night we had a heck of a thunderstorm. I woke up to chirping birds and thought that this is my favorite sound in nature. It’s like they are saying get up! It’s going to be a great day!
You smell great in Daim Blond ??
Thunderstorm twins! Mine came rolling in at about 4am, and it was LOUD!
My house was shaking from how loud it was!
Great list! Yesterday I walked in a neighborhood that has huge old live oaks where large water birds come to nest every spring. It’s an odd phenomenon here in the heart of the city. There must be hundreds of them. People tend to jog or walk dogs there or ride bicycles with their kids. I was taking bird photos. Usually we hear traffic noise from nearby streets and a big freeway. It was so quiet at around six yesterday that I could hear the whoosh of wings as these giant birds took off. They are herons and Great Egrets and have an enormous wingspan, four or five feet. That whooshing noise was utterly magical to me, something I’ve never heard before.
How cool Calypso, we had a great heron in our yard and I know that sound, aren’t they the coolest birds.? They feel prehistoric. And their squawks sound like it too.
A whole tree must have been a symphony.
Heads up, NST.
Today sucked, and I am gonna gripe about it for a little bit. Mr. Jalapeno had an accident with a utility knife (some folks call them box cutters), and I had to drive him to Urgent Care. He dropped the sharp pointy on his foot. He’s OK now, with 4 stitches in the foot, a tetanus shot, and an antibiotic ointment. That was some excitement that I sure could have done without.
SOTD = back in Chanel No. 19 Poudre. I think I need a bigger better “armor” scent if the rest of my week is gonna be like today was.
Dang, jalapeno, that does suck. I’m glad he is ok. I certainly hope the rest of your week is uneventful!
Thanks lillyjo. The Urgent Care facility had people calling in first, before allowing them inside. I was waiting outside in the truck. I’m thankful that the injury didn’t require a hospital visit.
Oh no! I hope your husband recovers soon. Sending healing vibes!
Thanks, perfumelover67! He has a couple weeks of using that antibiotic, and will get the stitches out then.
argh, that’s gotta hurt, very sorry for you both.
What kind of creeped me out was Mr. Jalapeno saying that the actual injury didn’t hurt when it happened. But really sharp blades can do that all too easily.
Oh boy…sorry about this. Sending healing thoughts to your husband. No more excitement please!
Thank you! ITA… no more excitement please!
I hope he feels better soon!
I keep telling the kids when they are doing things they shouldn’t..don’t hurt yourself because we are not going to a hospital!
Mr. Jalapeno has been surprisingly upbeat about the whole thing. On the other hand, my vibe was seriously harshed for a couple of hours afterwards.
Ouch! Glad it was fixable!
Unfortunately, the sock he was wearing on that foot was a total loss… what a mess.
G!ad that he’s ok!
Yeah, me too. Now here’s hoping that things heal up OK.
Oh gosh, nobody wants to go to urgent care these days! So sorry!
Emergency room visits cannot be fun these days. On the positive side. you do smell marvelous, I hope it is still working late into your day.
OMG. I hope you confiscated the actual box cutter? No more box cutters until they have a vaccine developed!!
(And I just yelled at my husband earlier today because first he said I should not go to the store at all this week to be extra safe, then he went outside and started cutting boards with the stupid circular saw thingie that he suspends between 2 sawhorses. Honestly. )
Ouch! Hope Mr. Jalapeno is doing all right, and that your nerves are calmer.
Reminds me of finding out a few years ago while cleaning the blades of Felco # 2 pruning shears that the blades actually were razor-sharp. The ED physician’s assistant thought that a stitch in my thumb would be a bit of overkill, and managed to close the cut with butterfly bandages.
But I totally do things like that every so often. I seldom do the same exact thing twice, though.
Late to the party …
SOTD = Atelier des Ors Choeur des Anges
… from a sample. It is creamsicle, with similarities to Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir.

I have a Scented Samples subscription from Indigo Perfumery and this one came with the March set. I just re-upped for another 6 months. Can’t beat the $60 6-month rate (or you can try it for 1 month at a time for $12). It’s a good way to try new niche fragrances without having to shlep anywhere.
If you don’t want sad, please stop reading now.

I just got a text today that one of my fellow travelers to Houston died of COVID-19. She was a very spright 80+ retired lawyer. She did not feel well as soon as we returned to NJ on March 13, had surgery 3 weeks ago (which would have been the week after we returned) for a gastrointestinal blockage…don’t really know how well she got out of that surgery but must have contracted COVID-19 while in the hospital … and died today . She has a very small family but regardless, it must have been devastating. She is the first person I personally know who died of COVID-19. ?. If you’re wondering if I’m worried about being infected from that trip, I would say no considering the elapsed time.
I’m really sorry for your loss, Hajusuuri. I know you enjoyed that trip, and hope the good memory of your friend helps some. ❤
Thank you, lillyjo. There were only 10 of us on that trip so it hit hard.
Sorry to hear about it. So, so sad. At least she enjoyed the trip before leaving.
Thank you. I know she enjoyed herself.
so sad for you and everyone affected, take good care, hajusuuri.
Thank you, tiffanie.
stay healthy, please!
I am so sorry for your loss..
Thank you. I will try!
Gosh, so sorry to hear this.
Thank you. I was shocked when I heard the news, then I started counting back and with last exposure to her being 3/13, it has been way past the ~ 14 day incubation period.
I’m sorry, h! That’s so incredibly sad.
Thank you. She was vibrant.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Please stay safe and healthy.
Thank you, She-ra.
Yikes. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. That’s got to be a horrible punch to the gut. Please be safe.
Thanks, jalapeño. A life extinguished…
Oh no! How awful. I’m very sorry.
Oh Hajusuuri I am so very sorry.
That’s so sad and unfortunate and unfair. Sending you a big hug for support, I am sure this is hard for you.
SotD = Iris Ukiyoe
Feels gentle, delicate.
Matches my mood at the moment.
Hope everyone found a little peace today.
great haiku
You smell nice!
