It’s Almost-Friday and the first day of spring in the US. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando while I venture out for food and supplies. I am planning on L’Artisan Parfumeur Jacinthe des Bois when I return.
Reminder: 3/20 will be the International Day of Happiness. Wear the perfume that most reliably increases your happiness!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good luck with your foraging, Robin!
I’m in the last remains of my sample of Cuir Ottoman, Parfum d’Empire. It is very gorgeous and has been on my wish list for a long time. Still, this sample has lasted me around 10 years, so I can probably live without it.
I’m about to go on a “dairy venture”. Hoping that my dairy farm is still selling milk and cheese.
I love that one, too, and went through 2 decants. If they still offered anything other than a 100ml bottle, I would snap it up.
They have moved to 50 ml bottles. I love it, but I just don’t feel an overwhelming need. It is good though.
No! There are several in this line that I really love…I cursed them for doing away with the 50ml and now I curse them for bringing them back! ? This puts me in dangerous perfume buying territory…
The Parfum d’Empire website reports that they have stopped selling online during this epidemic.
You do smell great! I’ve had the same 10ml decant for 2 years with still a good amount left, so clearly don’t need a bottle, but it’s lovely in cold weather, especially.
Yeah, it’s very comforting. The far dry down reminds me a little of Invasion Barbare. And I’ve still got more than 10 ml of that.
Okay, we are scent twins today — and this is the first time I’ve opened my tiny sample vial. It is lovely, but three hours in has gone utterly powdery on me. It is a particularly lovely powderiness, but not an effect that I crave.
I adore powder, except for Teint de Neige perhaps, but it doesn’t bother me. Still I can see that it isn’t quite what one expects after the slightly more dramatic opening.
Nice to know that I’ve got a scent twin today. I think you smell glorious!
Thank you! No toilet paper, but there is still Graeter’s Black Cherry Chocolate Chip, plenty of fresh fruit & veg, a reasonable amount of meat. The store was rationing dairy products so there were plenty of those too.
Went to the store yesterday and had a chat with one of my manager friends. I told him that I couldn’t believe they were still out of tp. He said they fully restocked shelves at 8am and by 12pm the shelves were completely empty. This is a massive chain store that always has a huge amt of tp. And all The Kleenex was gone too. ?? All the fresh chicken and frozen fries too. I guess people think the apocalypse is coming.??
Perhaps they wrap themselves in tp to ward of corona?
If only ?
I just saw a Johnny Carson monologue from the late 70’s gas shortage era. Amazingly, people were stocking up on toilet paper then, too, and made delightful fodder for Mr Carson ?
When in doubt stock up on tp!
I remember those days! There were other shortages: sugar, coffee and maybe bread?
You smelled so amazing today. Hope you had luck today with the dairy farm.
I did, thank you, no one is hoarding there, as expected. Pointless to hoard that kind of fresh produce, it will spoil within days. Besides, as long as they are not culling their herd they will need to get rid of their milk. They had placed a table between the customers and their counter so we had to keep our distance automatically. Plus they don’t get the number of customers a supermarket does.
Food shopping twins, my husband and I were up at the crack of dawn and some of the first people into our local grocery. We loaded up on about a week’s worth of food and score! Toilet paper!? My guess is it’s gone by now. Lots of shoppers in disposable gloves and the vibe was really weird.
Anyway, perfume: today’s SotD will be VCA Bois d’Iris. There was talk on here that it’s been discontinued. Does anyone know if that’s true?
We watched Knives Out last night with our girls. We all loved it, and in the spirit of Siskel and Ebert, I would give it two thumbs up.??
Two more thumbs up for Knives Out! I also completely loved the house and the setting, although I’m a bit partial as I’m local to New England. Congrats on the TP!
I loved that house too! I’m a huge fan of old houses, when I win the lottery I’ll find a huge old house out in the country and get the guys from This Old House to redo it.
Oh gosh yes! I’ve restored 6 old beauties to date over the span of 28 years (with my ex.… must give credit where it’s due, albeit a bit grudgingly ; ) and lived in and loved each one of them! in the process I’ve become an excellent painter and am quite handy with a drill, although not so much a hammer, and have become a professional seamstress. When you win, drop a line and I can help with slipcovers and window treatments, lol!
Good score. I’ve never sniffed the Bois d’Iris, but I enjoy many VCA scents, I want to sniff the new almond one, but that will likely take awhile…
Knives Out was good fun.
I bought disposable medical gloves some weeks back as a quiet prep move and have used them.
Knives Out was so much fun. My husband read the director will possibly(?) do more with Daniel Craig’s character solving another mystery.
I’ve tried 4 of the VCA scents and like them all. I’d like to try the almond one too!
I don’t know if it’s really discontinued. I remember hearing it was years ago. You were smart to shop today. Tomorrow will probably be crazy because of payday.
Right! Payday.? We should be good now for several days. The store was actually pretty busy for that early.
Ditto on Knives Out! And you smell delicious.
Grocery shopping these says is so weird. I am glad you got what you needed!
Thanks!
Yes, our store was out of many things Saturday afternoon which is why we went so early. There was chicken today!
Hi MTG! We are twins today in several ways. I will be wearing VC&A Bois d’Iris as well. In addition, we watched Knives Out with two of our three sons about a week ago and really enjoyed it. Our oldest son made Bananas Foster for a treat while we watched! And we did some grocery shopping this morning as well, although they were still out of lots of things here (Seattle).
I think I’m the one who mentioned about Bois d’Iris possibly being discontinued. I’d love to know officially – all I know is that it’s not on the VC&A website and hasn’t been for a long time. Which I think does not bode well.
Hey, springpansy! We really are twins as this decant came from your split.
Sorry your store was out of things.☹️Ours was over the weekend too, if people would stop hoarding things that would certainly help!!
My local store is doing first 2 hours for senior citizens & immune compromised, but I will try as soon as I can get in tomorrow for TP since I still have not found any.
Vibe likewise weird in both Wegmans and Whole Foods today.
Hit 3 grocery stores this morning–all before 8:30 am–no tp to be had. Did manage to place an order for Amazon’s house brand. Hope it’s acceptable!
Some of our stores are doing the opening hours for seniors too. Sorry you didn’t find tp. The hoarding of that has gotten out of hand.
Loved Knives Out! And send me some TP! You smelled amazing today- one of my favs!
I’m in Chypre Mousse today as the rain continues to fall. It let up a bit yesterday so we were able to get out and do a three and half miler.

Also able to find bread, lunch meat, and cheese at a small mountain top grocery. Will fill up with water before I leave here.
Smell well, y’all!
Where are you at the moment Deva?
Currently in the mountains in west central Arkansas, at Petite Jean State Park with a handful of other campers. I may extend my stay here a few more days. A bit removed from town on top of a mountain, but there is a small (expensive!) grocery here, electricity, water, showers/toilets, and the lodge down the road with WiFi, to finish up some work on-line. Not a bad situation, considering.
I know absolutely nothing about Arkansas, so I’m going to look up your park. Are you missing Arizona at all?
Yes! I miss the West in general. The space. The sky. The air. The lack of development. The potential animal sightings. The ability to absent myself from the human world, and become completely unknown and alone. The lack of human created noise and stink. I did forgot about southern humidity, which has slapped me right across the face here in Arkansas. ? Here’s a link to a brief history of the park and how the was named. I was directed to this park by a geologist I met a couple of days ago at another park. Some AMAZING geological features here. https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/parks/petit-jean-state-park/about/history
I can appreciate that. I lived in Arizona for 6 months in the early nineties. Although I would never wish to live there permanently (too much of a European, sorry) I remember vividly how hard I found it to adjust to the lack of space in my own country. I think it took me a few months to readjust to having to share my space again.
Will you still be going back to Florida to sell your house?
Well, that’s iffy now. I was essentially headed east to do just that, but depending on the future economy, I may hang onto it. I make more money by owning it, so I’m not in a huge rush, but the constant hassle (And cost) of depending on others for upkeep, mail, etc, is a real PITA. I have no family or connections left in Florida, and I’m not a huge fan of the state in general. Plus, just yesterday, I was out for a walk with doggo between raindrops, and realized I am perfectly content with this vagabond lifestyle. I enjoy meeting (most) new people, and looking for beauty in the landscape wherever I go. It’s done a world of good for my mental health. There is no single place I’ve wanted to stay permanently, but many places I would love to go back to to explore more thoroughly. If the housing market is still strong in Florida while I’m in NC, I’ll probably sell. If not, I’ll just hang onto it for a while longer.
That set-up actually sounds really great to me right now. Stay safe!
You too!
Oh, this is a good one in warmish rainy weather. Maybe I will wear it tomorrow if it gets rainy here
Yep, warm and rainy here and CM is not shy! ?
Be safe, Deva!
First day of wfh. I will reserve judgement on this for a few days to give it a chance.
Showered and am wearing Shalimar body creme and extrait to start my day. The coffee is ready ☕
I hope it’s a smooth first day for you.?
It had it’s challenges. But it was also nice to be at home. Trade offs!
I was thinking it would be nice to go out for dinner, then I remembered why I was doing this!
You smelled perfect today.
Happy first day of spring, NST! We are out of milk and bread so I’m going to check out one of the Dollar General stores around here, I’m just not up for the craziness of our local Kroger. Wearing Shalimar edc, a reliably great scent. Hope everyone is doing well ?
Good luck ringthing, hope you found what you needed!
Hope you had luck at Dollar General. You smelled great today.
I’m also scentless so far, having just gotten up. Working from home has the advantage of getting to sleep longer. If one can. I lost about four hours night before last due to waking up and not being able to shut the brain back off. Last night I think I only lost two hours, so … progress?
It also has the advantage of being able to wear whatever fragrance I want, and today it just might be Broken Theories. Happy Friday Eve, everyone!
Yes, progress for sure!
Esprit d’Oscar.
Must say it seems as though there are pockets of hysteria and pockets of calm. My SIL texted me to tell me to go shopping NOW as their town’s grocery stores were EMPTY, even the super expensive Norwegian salmon. Well, I reluctantly went this am as I hate crowds, and it was lovely and quiet and the shelves were full and there were lots of special offers esp on fresh produce. Well then. And my husband came home last night, having been harassed for the past two weeks by people not being sick or having travelled demanding to be tested for Covid, and said that he thought the irrational fear was at least subsiding a bit.
Thank heavens for subsiding hysteria. Our local groceries were also well stocked as of 3 days ago… hoping to find a similar state later today : )
So true about “pockets” of hysteria and calm. I’m not prone to anxiety, so I really have a hard time understanding hysteria, which never in its entire long history helped one single situation. It’s hysteria that has cleared shelves and made it difficult for others, especially the elderly and handicapped, to have access to supplies. It’s just selfish.
Yes, it’s extremely selfish. Sad too.
I’m commando at the moment, but I think I might have to start the steady and consistent application of loads of perfume, to keep my spirits up. Working from home, so nobody’s going to get offended.
Bring on the Spring!
Spray away! ?? Kind of the same reason I chose CM today, because it’s POWERFUL and has serious longevity.
Plus it contains alcohol and that can’t be bad for sanitation purposes!
I’ll join you in loads of perfume!
I’m wearing La Chasse aux Papillons in honor of the first day of spring.
Nice! Maybe I’ll join you.
One of my better “in the wild” stories on that scent. Was heading to a client meeting with a colleague one time. We’d taken the train and were walking to the client offices. She suddenly commented she was trying to figure out what lovely flowering plant she kept getting a whiff of as we walked. It was me!
Love those “in the wild” scent stories!
Such a beautiful choice! I’m just waiting for the weather to warm up here before I wear it too 🙂
Will be celebrating the first day of spring with Ostara a little later in the morning. Also on a happy note, our “peepers” in Massachusetts are back for their annual raucous springfest). I really should know better, but not sure if these are frogs maybe? Anyhoo, lovely welcome sound of spring at night around wet/boggy areas.
Lots of frog action where I’m at as well. Between their evening chorus and the babbling brook alongside me, I’m sent to sleep with the earth’s lullaby- so peaceful.
Lovely! Always a welcome sign of spring – enjoy and safe travels : )
I began working from home this week with my 6 year old. It’s been 3 days and I feel like I haven’t done too much work nor have I done enough academic stuff w/ her but I am trying to be realistic and kind to myself given the extraordinary circumstances.
Some of you heard me periodically griping about GS cookie season 😉 over the past several weeks which ended the week of March 8th. I was the Troop Cookie Manager and so excited as I updated and closed out the system last Thursday. I remember thinking in February how exciting it would be when the season was over and everything would go back to normal. 🙁
Big hugs to everyone during these tough, tough times. We are all more resilient and remarkable than we sometimes feel. I keep saying this to myself.
I am sampling super comforting Solstice Scents Lavender Vanilla today in the new EDP. I believe this was only in oil previously and then she released it last month in EDP.
I was a Cookie Mom for years, and I have to say….I’m glad that phase of motherhood/volunteering is over for me now! LOL It’s a LOT of work! 🙂
JadainGa, I could not accomplish a quarter of what you do. Hats off to you, because you have the energy level I can only dream about. You should write a book on how you’re able to do so much, for so many, all day, every day! Seriously, it would be a best seller✌?
Yes I was young and naive when I volunteered back in September 😉 …didn’t really realize the full extent of duties.
Hugs back to you, She-ra and thanks for being a positive light here on NST along with so many others. This site remains one of the highlights of my day.
Isn’t it interesting how previous annoyances/time sucks seem more minor now? Sometimes things get put in perspective for us. Best of luck with managing work plus your young one. We CAN do this!
This site remains one of the highlights of my day too.?
Like you, I fail on both getting my work done and getting the younger teen schooled much – the older teen has forbidden us to mess with her schoolwork and is apparently getting work sent to her by the high school. I can only imagine how much harder it is with a 6 year old (my youngest is 12). I decided it’s best to avoid Facebook so I don’t see those pics of kids sitting around the kitchen table, brows furrowed, pencils out, while mine are in their pajamas, staring at the latest tic toc dance. But – we’ll push on with our “home school” regardless – any little bit counts, so if you even get something done with your 6 year old, you should pat yourself on the back! Maybe you can do some “identifying scent” activities?
She has some school apps we have been doing w/ her too. The kids can share pics, videos, activities, etc. w/ each other so hope is not entirely lost.
And your kids are probably doing better than you think…it seems most people on FB only post the best and brightest of their progeny. 😉
I bought 5 boxes and hid them from my hubby? I don’t want to share. ?
That’s the spirit. I do it w/ chips and chocolate in my house too…otherwise I will go back to have some product x, y or z and it is looooong gone… 🙂
Working from home twins. Today is my first day, I still have an hour to do but this is my coffee break.
It’s harder than I thought. My chair sucks and I don’t have the same amount of room as my desk. Plus we have 1 screen at home, so it’s a teeeny split screen. Ugh! At least it’s my Friday!
I think I need some of those cookies!
Yeah I am working off my laptop screen right now. 🙁 I have 2 big screens at work and I guess I have become somewhat of a screen queen. 😉 It really makes a huge difference though. Maybe a cushion on the chair would help?
We have all the same WFH woes! I had to put two cushions on my chair today to make it bearable. I’m working on an antique secretary, so the desk space is tiny. And I miss my two monitors so much.
Joining PriscillaE in La Chasse. Thanks for the reminder of this spring beauty. And I sprayed with abandon.
Nancyleandros called it right the other day in saying she thought Agnes might be showing pre-snuggling behavior. Major breakthrough last night that warmed my heart. Agnes jumped up on the couch and was crouched facing me…closer to the middle of the couch than the far end. I stretched out my arm and held out my hand. Not only did she walk into my hand, but all the way to me and laid down against my leg and up toward my armpit. We spent a nice 20 minutes of me stroking and petting around the ears and chin. She was purring and rubbing against me. I’m thrilled.
She continues to amuse by batting things around the floor. Acorns found in the water bowl. A wrapped cough drop that keeps moving about the floor. A small phone charger. I wish we had a bigger space for her to chase with abandon.
That is a beautiful breakthrough! Give sweet Agnes an ear scritch from T-Rex and me. ??
Awww, yay Agnes! Your description of your sweet kitty does my heart good. Thank you so much for sharing the news. ❤️❤️??❤️❤️????
I love her name! My grandmother’s name was Agnes and I’ve often thought I would love to name a pet after her (not sure how the other members of the family would feel, but WTH). Enjoy your snuggles!
Awww, yay Agnes! So rewarding. My male cat isn’t a lap cat and rarely even sits near me in the couch. So on the rare occasion he’s he’s feeling amorous, I don’t want to move (and that’s always right when I have to go to the bathroom, lol)!
I may join you all in La Chasse…
Yay for progress with Agnes! Our “newer” adoptee is 5 years with us already and she’ll always be a more nervy cat, but seeing her blossom into a snugglebear was so rewarding!
We’ve had 4 cats (2 still with us) and were told all “weren’t lapcats” and we have always proved the adoption agency wrong!
Thanks for this. ♥ Agnes!
That’s great about Agnes snuggling! I have three cats on my lap on the loveseat plus one over my shoulder behind me and one by my feet. I find it very comforting. Plus, my Dusty is still fairly chipper despite his huge tumor. https://www.instagram.com/p/B97XiJVpGp2/?igshid=kud7trhlg5bh
So jealous. I miss the days of having cats on and next to me. We will get there, I hope.
Awww☺️Remind me how long you’ve had her?
3 mos. We got her on Dec 23. Seems like longer, though. She spent the first month (at least) retreating to her cat carrier under our dining table. She still runs under there when nervous about movements but doesn’t stay.
Next stage, I hope, is to jump on the bed when we are in bed.
Good morning Y’all!
I woke up with a bit of a allergy/pollen headache (my car is yellow now), so I was commando, but I’m noticing that my hoodie is still smelling like Estee Lauder Knowing from the other day. GREAT STUFF! It’s just the right dose until I get home tonight and try something new.
Had to have a “Come to Jesus” meeting with my 14 year old son about online/homeschooling. It’s still work to be done, it’s still being graded, and it needs to be ON TIME. Let’s hope our little conference reaps better results for the rest of the week….. #ComeToJesus #JesusTakeTheWheel 🙂
Hang tough everybody! We will all get thru this together, and maybe be a little better for doing so!
Kids! Sometimes, I wish I was still one of them. Your “come to Jesus” talk will be much appreciated by his future higher ups, who will admire and compensate (hopefully!) his excellent work ethic!
Let’s HOPE I wasn’t wasting my breath on him….LOL! He’s living the dream right now! All day at home, with snacks downstairs….. 🙂
go momma! I really feel for families with kids in the new school-at-home situation, it’s a tough transition.
Our school district is urging teachers for the moment to stress that all online homework is voluntary and only a suggestion. I totally understand where they are coming from – not wanting to add more stress for all those families who have to worry about getting food on the table etc. – but my kids see “voluntary”, shrug and move on. We had to pick up the Cello from high school yesterday and I talked to the orchestra teacher for a moment and he asked my daughter what she thought of some online, live playing together, I chimed in with “sounds great!” and got chewed out later in the car not to interfere with her schooling 🙂
Good morning, Fragrant Friends!
In addition to the overarching situation, I broke my left shoulder at the end of February. ?
I’m only taking ibuprofen, and not in pain from the break itself. (Plenty of muscle soreness from compensating, etc.) This is apparently the least serious possible shoulder fracture, or as one PA gently kidded me, “Only an entry-level injury, missy!” ? It should tell you something about how competitive I can be that I was miffed. ?
So that (and my age) have kept me from being out elbowing people out of the way for toilet paper. Fortunately, I used to work on international health, had been paying very close attention to early coronavirus news, and began stocking up weeks ago. Also, I live in a convenient condo building in an area where everything can easily be delivered, so I’m fine.
Which is not to say that I didn’t have three days of literal borderline panic attacks after the fall. I caught my toe on an upturned sidewalk edge when I was gawking at new townhouses across the street and rushing to Pilates — so that counts as a sports injury, right? ?
My heart is aching for everyone, really, because everyone is facing hardships and fears of one sort or another now. I’m trying to focus on the many extraordinary examples of kindness, generosity, creativity, leadership, and sacrifice that are also arising, and finding plenty of comfort and encouragement here among you all. Thanks so much for being this special community!
Oh no! I’m so sorry about your shoulder. Best wishes for a speedy recovery
Thank you, yasmina!
Oh, dear, so sorry about your shoulder, but glad you seem to be taking in stride! Heal well…
Thank you, Elisa! Sometimes taking it in stride is the only option because there’s no mental or physical energy to waste.
Thankfully, I’ve been doing well and got in three physical therapy sessions for passive range of motion before my PT’s office had to close, as they are co-located in a DC gym. So, I’ll soon test out the new experience of a PT “virtual home visit.” Should be useful for the exercises at least and being able to ask questions.
I’ve been wondering with so many things going to virtual right now to keep people afloat, how this will play out much later on. People realizing that what they thought should be in person, actually works out virtually, and is more convenient, etc. May be good from a business person’s perspective, but from an interpersonal one it’s very mixed in my mind. Happy, though, that people who formerly had no access to certain experiences, might have some participation now.
I’m hoping we all get our fill of video so the change is people appreciating in-person interactions more.
Elisa P, I’ve been wondering similar things. My meditation class actually feels closer virtually — you can look right into the teacher’s face rather than the back of someone’s head. But I might also find the real distance more comfortable because I am shy.
LizzieB, I am learning to love the little noises from other apartments that used to irritate me so much.
Ouch! Sorry about your shoulder! But happy to hear it’s a minor injury and not a debilitating one that would land you in a rehab center, or worse, in a hospital.
As long as I take care to avoid displacing the broken off bit, no surgery. Fingers crossed!
I’m glad you are not in too much pain, and that you can get things delivered.
Thanks, lilyjo, I’m very lucky, aside from that whole failing to pay due attention in an area where old tree roots have buckled the sidewalk.
ouch! take care of that shoulder, please 😀
“missy” made me smile, my gran would call me that when I was acting a bit uppity, LOL, as in “hey, missy, watch out, you don’t want to fall off that high shelf.”
He was the nicest guy! I had gone to the urgent care a few days after the fall because I was worried about my blood pressure, and he happened to have worked in orthopedic trauma units before. He gave me a lot more advice and tips than the busy ortho office had. It was like meeting an angel when you most need help.
aww, that’s fantastic. 😉
I still call my girls missy when they are getting sassy.?
Don’t take entry-level as a challenge to go to next level!
Hope the at-home rehab works well.
Thanks! It helps that I already know and trust my PT.
Hah, also, thanks for the laugh!
Sorry about your shoulder. Many years ago, I had a fully torn rotator cuff and had to have open surgery. My injury was caused by a broken piece of concrete on a sidewalk that was like a puzzle. No one could have seen that the block of concrete was loose except for the sole of my sandal which caused me to flip into the air like an acrobat. My right arm was in a sling for about 9 months and then for another 12 months after, I had to have physical therapy. I did everything I was told to do, including home exercises and my doc said that because I did all I was supposed to do, my shoulder had healed and worked as good as it possibly could. So listen to your doctor and don’t overdo anything.
Ouch! That’s a LONG time to be in a sling, not able to sleep well, etc. It would be very easy to overdo inadvertently, get jostled, or fall again because balance is impaired so much when you can only swing one arm. I’m telling myself that I’m lucky not to be able to go anywhere anyway.
Glad to hear your diligence and care paid off! What a project!
I am sure your break is at the upper, most-extreme edge of entry level, just one tiny fragment short of mid-range, and a tweak short of executive shoulder injury. Possibly close to gated community level. I can imagine it is practically dangling by a thread but fooled the medical team due to your extraordinary stoicism and muscle fitness. You must have extremely strong bones, stronger than anyone else in the entire world ….bones of steel ( and bone). What a shoukder!
Thank you so much for cracking me up, Kanuka! I needed a deep swig of the best medicine ??
When I come to write “The History of the World in 100 Shoukder Injuries” you will be right at the top!
Nelson will come in atNumber 2
???
With Filomena, too, it will surely be a best seller!
Thank you for the laugh.
Glad you are stocked up and ready, and hope it will heal well and without too much pain!
Thank you, Eschmeling, I’ve been very fortunate so far. I you hope you stay safe, too!
What a nuisance, but good to hear you are able to deal with it so well.
Thanks, austenfan, so far, so good, knock on wood!
I’m sorry to hear about your shoulder fracture! I broke my shoulder just a bit over two years ago, and it is quite an adjustment to find new ways of doing things. I hope it was your non-dominant arm?
??
Yes, non-dominant, thankfully! I’m trying to treat each challenge as an intriguing puzzle, and it is very satisfying to solve them. However, I usually wear my hair pinned up and have not been able to figure out any satisfactory one-handed way to get it up off my neck. Also, my stoppered perfume bottles are off limits for now.
Excellent! Well, um, as excellent as it can be. It makes it a bit easier.
I had my hair cut in a pixie as soon as I was able, so I have no hair wisdom to share, sadly. But you have a great attitude! It feels good when you figure out a way to get something done!
Sorry about your shoulder. It sucks! But I hope it heals soon.
Thanks, Glannys! It really does suck, but I’m treating it as a reset.
So sorry to hear about your shoulder…hope it heals quickly!
Sorry to hear about your shoulder and glad you’re all stocked up. Years ago, my dad owned a building. There was a tree owned by the township that buckled the sidewalk near the building. You guessed it, someone fell and sued my dad. It went to court and the judge dismissed the complaint and said it was akin to suing because a tree grew. Ultimately, responsibility belongs to the township and not the building owner.
Whew — you all must have been relieved!
It’s a county responsibility here, and I’ve called it in. I’ll check up on them someday!
Chanel No 19 EDT
boom! perfect. 😀
SotD = Tam Dao
Whew! Almost-Friday sure snuck up on me. Tam Dao is helping me feel centered.
It’s WFH Day 2 and I’m getting into a groove. Yesterday felt aimless and a little sad. I miss seeing my students, wondering how they are doing.
Hope everyone is feeling centered or at least getting there. Take care, perfume pals!
It is hard not to feel aimless when your routine is broken — Tam Dao is a great idea and has been my evening fragrance lately.
thanks, Robin 😀 i’ll tam dao before bed tonight.
Perfect!
😀
Tam Dao is perfect for feeling centered.?♀️
so true. 😀
We didn’t face the grocery store yesterday or this morning. Leaving for work in a few minutes while wearing the tiniest bit of Chanel no 5 from my travel set.
Chanel No 5 is perfect. 🙂
Rainy here. Working from home. Technology challenges connecting to some meetings. Ugh. Now the meetings are done, so lala whatever. I will do it differently next time.
Memo Tiger’s Nest is keeping me warm and alert as I work from home. I’m going through all my favorites.
Yesterday, I wore DSH Vers la Voute Etoilee, which I just love, and never see mentioned anywhere. It’s one of her grand style perfumes, a Chypre base topped with a gourmandishy floral opening and a spicy floral heart. It smells natural, expansive and expensive, and it lasts 5-6 hours on my skin which is good for a mostly natural scent. I now have two decants of this, and will be getting FB as some point when the decants are gone.
The day before that I finally did a wrist to wrist comparison of Mohur Extrait and Bengale Rouge. Mohur for the win, what can I say?
Stay safe and well, everyone.
” lala whatever” is exactly right!
I love so many DSH scents, and there are so many more I have not tried. Would love to be her neighbor!
I know, it’s almost enough to move back to the Rockies, just to be able to drop by her store and sniff samples once in a while.
But I like the rain here, I have to admit. Instead of nurturing every spindly little sapling that struggles to grow, here I am like, “Oh, cut that down, we need sunshine on the garden. Cut that one down too, so it doesn’t fall on the cars one day.” We have a surfeit of trees at my house. 🙂
A surfeit of trees is a wonderful thing!
I think it’s quite cool to use the word surfeit! ??
I’ve doused myself in a Serge Lutens Fleur d’Orangeur sample and I’m just setting up to teach some music lessons online 🙂
smelling lovely, Susannetta! I adore citrus florals.
hope your online lessons go great, would love to hear how it turns out. 😀
Thanks so much! I had to kind of “McGyver” my phone on an Ikea lamp with duck tape to get the right ankle over the keys but it worked pretty good!
Oh, how are you doing that? Would love to pass on suggestions to a music-teaching friend.
My method worked in a pinch! But there are definitely more elegant ways I’m sure! There is an amazing FB group of music teachers set up for this crisis I would highly recommend your friend join! It’s been an invaluable resource for just this kind of thing and a great support. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=music%20teachers%20unite%3A%20covid-19
Hopefully that will help your friend!
I think it’s a private group? If it is I would be happy to add them 🙂
Thank you so much for the information! I will pass on the information to her.
SOTD L’Artisan Parfumeur 18 Glacialis Terra. Even though reviews say is an icy, cold scent I find it very warm and beachy, perhaps because of the vetiver. Anyway, I am enjoying it greatly on this dark, gloomy, rainy day.
Really hoping we get some sun tomorrow in between the forecasted thunderstorms.
Temps are supposed to reach 73 tomorrow, but it will be a rainy day. We may get some sun in between the rain during the weekend. Let’s hope!
Rainy and gross here too. Plus a cold front moving in.
We are supposed to get tons of rain on Monday and it will be cold! ?. Patience!
Yesterday I fixed the cat scratching post and got construction adhesive on my hands, which would NOT come off without a flood of GooGone which stinks forever. Today I smell much nicer in Une Bois Vanille. I may wash the outside windows today if it gets warmer.
GooGone is amazing.
It is amazing, but it’s also one of the most tenacious chemical smells in the known universe. I had to use it (several weeks ago) on the desk area where I am now working from home, and I’m STILL getting whiffs of it. Foxbins, I feel your pain. 😉
Enjoying my sample of Ambra di Venezia.
Went grocery shopping this morning and we scored a pack of toilet paper, though, as my husband pointed out, that is now several months supply since we have adapted to the sprayer/ bidet thingy.
My workplace officially shut down yesterday so I can now file for unemployment
I’m so sorry about your work shut down. So many are struggling right now.
I have a spray bidet and still use TP to dry!
I wanted it to shut down. As a massage therapist, I really didn’t understand why we were still open and had already told my manager to take me off the schedule for a few weeks. Voluntarily not working meant I wouldn’t be getting paid during this time, while now I will have money coming in
Ah that’s good then!!
You wanted work to shut down IIRC…so good!
Still commando, sort of. I just got my delivery of hand sanitizer (since ashamedly we did not stock up and only had a few of those freebie keychain ones from Nurse’s Weeks of yore). I ended up getting it from the Rad Soap Co. It’s 62% ethanol, so I think, ok. I’m used to hand sanitizers smelling strong and clinical, but so far, I smell like a creamsicle! Perfect ? A bit pricey for what it is, but desperate times…
I’m hoping my homemade mix of isopropyl alcohol and aloe gel is effective. I have both 70% and 99% alcohol solutions. Mixed at 75/25 proportion…
Sounds like it should be. I hope this stuff is effective. Smells too sweet to be effective, lol. Matbe I’ll try tbe lavender eucalyptus one instead. And nice friend! That stuff us simuch a precious commodity!
I’m totally laughing. A friend just randomly fed exec me a bunch of hand sanitizer. I’m now set.
Wearing By Kilian Incense Oud today.
I’m grateful for spring and for all you great smelling people posting here.
I confess to sometimes reading your posts before bedtime just to unwind and go to sleep ?
Be well all!
I read before bed too, and sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night.
I’m wearing Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes today. It’s a beautiful 85 degree day with sun, birds, blue skies and butterflies.
Today is our first day of remote learning – all of my students have checked in, and they all seem to be OK so far. I have multiple students who are out of state because they had to leave to look after younger siblings/ cousins, or because they are at their other parent’s home while their usual custodial parent is working or quarantined.
Be well, stay calm and keep smelling fabulous. You are all wonderful people.
You smell very nice.
Let us know how it went! I’m starting Monday and a bit concerned. I also have a ton of students so a bit worried about losing some.
You smell the BEST! ?
Since I have to exercise all by myself in my basement, I can wear all the perfume I want. So, I’m blasting Mitsouko. Just writing that makes me shake my head.
Go ScentSpirit!
Working from home can still be stressful right?
Inbox full of mails-i-did-need haha
Loads of phone calls. So tiresome.
And on top of that a stubborn mother in law (decided to organise a small meeting at home for friends, and talks down to me for being critical about it)
…and stubborn parents…(my 70+ father still wants to do the grocery shopping, while my mother is not healthy as you all know)…
I was so grumpy I forgot to wear perfume ?
Tonight i think I’ll grab a royal spritz of MAAI.
Btw,
I cannot even imagine working from home with kids around, as is the situation for loads of folks right now. ?
Correction: i had an inbox full of mails i did NOT need
?
It seems to take some people a while to start behaving prudently. A friend of mine was just going on with her birthday celebrations. And she is a nurse. ?
Nurses are the worst, lol! I think there’s an “I’ve seen worse” kind of attitude or just totally desensitized and jaded maybe.
Well I don’t know about all nurses as I don’t know that many, but interestingly she is very anxious about a lot of things while not willing to make a few sacrifices this time.
Most of my doctor friends were quite laid back, but since last week we’ve all come to realise that this is very, very serious.
Regarding your last paragraph, same here.
I have extended family members that didn’t bother to cancel their spring break trip flying across the country and instead chose to post pictures on social media about how deserted the airport and plane was. Gee, really?!! I wonder why!! It took everything I had to just bite my tongue and not make some snarky comment.
I could also not imagine the situation with possibly bored kids. MAAI sounds like a great scent
I have read that people in their 60’s and 70’s are the most resistant to “social distancing” because we think we’ve seen it all before. We haven’t, people. I have a cousin who keeps writing on Facebook how this is all just over-reacting again and how she is still taking her 101 year old mother to have her hair done etc. and I just want to crawl through the computer and smack her upside the head.
Oof. A friend was just telling me a similar story about her neighbor’s elderly mom. One if the daughters was doing the same with her and now the poor woman is in the ICU on a ventilator with covid. And I’m sure the daughter must be suffering crushing guilt because the other daughter, an EMT, told them not to.
So true on the guilt thing. I think when this is all over we’re all going to need a bit of therapy, either for guilt or for isolation anxiety. Or both.
Yes, very hard to get people to pay attention, especially in states with the smallest number of cases.
Yup
But I think you can compare The Netherlands to a very densely populated state. Say…New Jersey?
We are one of Europe’s most crowded countries.
So that makes this behaviour extra incomprehensible. ?
NJ now has over 700. In my town alone, we have 9…no change from yesterday but I bet there will be way more.
So for my birthday mr. Yasmina was going to get me a BUB of Coromandel from Heathrow Duty Free. That’s obviously not an option now. I’m thinking a nice gift alternative would be an annual perfume subscription.
What are your favorite subscription programs? Do tell!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you! It was March 11 and my Coromandel hope is only dying now ?
Can”t he order it direct from the Chanel website or US boutique? I ordered one of my Chanel perfumes from the boutique in NYC.
Well, I wanted to save him some money by going the Duty Free route – the savings are quite substantial
Yeah, I understand. It doesn’t come cheap.
And Happy Birthday!
I once benefitted from someone else’s unwanted Scentbird decants, if that counts? Otherwise haven’t tried any, so am curious.
Scentbird seems to be the dominant player but I am wondering if it’s good for niche
Scented at Indigo Perfumery – $12 per month shipped or $60 for 6 months. You get 3 spray samples in a plastic case. 1 is a featured sample and it is 20% off for the month. The 2nd one is a bonus sample but no discount. The 3rd is a mystery sample; if you guess it right, you get a chance to win a FB of it. In the 6 months that I’ve had the subscription, no one won so if you have a good nose and picks up notes really well, your chances of winning are pretty good. One month we got 4 samples! The perfumes are usually the newer, recently launched perfumes. I think it’s a good deal.
Working from home = whatever perfume I want! Safron Troublant, mm mmm good.
🙂
Twins! We smell wonderful.
Twins!! Nice!
I am still craving Chypres, so I chose Aromatics Elixir today and possibly wore a bit too much of it. But I had not one new patient to see today and just had to be at my workplace.
Dining out with the boyfriend on our balcony with a nice bottle of French rosé, it could be worse.
There was even toilet paper to be had at Lidl, but pasta was gone. Be safe!
Pasta makes more sense than tp! Enjoy your balcony dinner.
I wrote a comment yesterday about wearing Guerlain’s Outrenoir, and found hours later that I’d forgotten to post it! Today is likely to be the last normal day at work, as a llt of people will be working from home next week. New Zealand has closed its borders to everyone except citizens and permanent residents, these are strange times.
Inspired by Nebbe, I’ve picked Safran Troublant for what should be a lovely autumn day.
Oops, triplets with you and Nebbe! You smelled great yesterday in Neroli Outrenoir. Maybe I’ll pull that one out tomorrow.
My aunt is in NZ and I emailed her back in February to cancel her usual summer continent hopping as she usually heads home to the UK and Ireland for spring and summer. At the time, I don’t think NZ has any defined plans, like many countries, so I’m really hoping she is stuck in NZ over the summer. She’s elderly, robust, and hard-headed, which is a dangerous combination! ?
Aww! Triplets!!! This is very exciting.
Our borders are closed and I imagine us floating off into the distance, drifting amongst the ice bergs for the next while. i am wearing Al Oudh as it is a bit chilly outside. Our cranberry bushes are laden so I will go and pick them today. It’s always a bit of a mission as my dog gets a bit turned on by gardening, and he tends to go into humping mode whenever I crouch down. A 20kg dog clinging to my picking arm, and going for it is not really a Martha Stewart/ River Cottage moment. Still, if it makes him happy…..
this made me laugh. Or dog doesn’t like Zumba. Or any hopping/jumping/dancing. He barks, runs to get his toy, and feels left out.
Dogs are so funny. My parents lab hated when my dad watched sports and would yell and cheer at the tv. She would bark at him.?
That is hilarious! My dog used to enjoy picking blackberries and raspberries whenever she had the opportunity. It did not invite humping behaviour, fortunately.
Thanks for the belly laugh, Kanuka – I needed that! 😀
?
This is so funny!?
Hahaha! Gardening can be sexy!
Gives new meaning to ‘Hump Day’
You make my day.
?
Lol?
Yesterday I backfiled 6 years of FBAR (mandatory US reporting of foreign financial accounts) before being called out on being delinquent, woohoo! And finished compiling all my 2019 business expenses. I just have 2-3 more bits of information I need from Mr. Teebear and can send everything off to the new accountants, on time no less!
Yesterday’s SOTD was Via del Profumo Milano Caffe, which I liked but didn’t love. Has anyone tried Akro Awake?
Today’s SOTD is testing out Guerlain Ambre Éternel. Looking over my decants I ordered I was clearly having a luxurious spice yen in my subconscious, and this is scratching the itch perfectly.
I have! Loved it.
Tanya Sanchez had an excellent idea: “It has been brought to my attention that now is the time for you to indulge in your most antisocial perfume. SPLASH IT ALL OVER.” Following her advice and marinating in Gianfranco Ferre 20.
I’d be happy to smell that one if you could sit by me!
With the requisite 6 feet distance ?
Morning after and I still smell it eeeverywhere. Bliss.
And it’s not even my favourite scent but wow, it packs a punch.
What a strange week it has been..my kids last day of school tomorrow, and no more work for me, I run the breakfast and after school club, and won’t be paid, as I haven’t got a contract. Still, smelling lovely in Liasons Dangerous, which is not dangerous in the least, but a very lovely and cheerful perfume, which was just what I needed today.
Glad to hear that supermarkets are only open to the elderly and disabled between 9-11.00am now, there is a real community spirit of pulling together here, which I’m so grateful for.
Stay safe lovely perfume friends.
Sorry you will lose income mayfly!
Thanks Robin.
Nuit de Bakelite today. Happy spring ?
Happy spring Laura!
It’s snowing. I’m wearing Une Rose Vermeille.
?. I don’t even remember when NJ got snow this winter!
Getting slowly used to be home. In Avon Rapture today and I can tell why people compare it to Guerlain, in particular to Ode. I tried Ode during my class with Victoria but it’s very rare, rose and iris, quite timeless. Well, Rapture is be had for very little money and is simply lovely, the base is all creamy sandalwood.
Nice to hear about the cheap and cheerful.
🙂 I am still surprised about how good it is.
I’m in Safran Troublant, spritzing it like it’s a cologne!
Had to get out today for flea&tick meds for the dog (it’s a serious need in Houston), and saw a bunch of puppies being examined and weighed on the sidewalk. I think they are still doing surgeries inside, but handling the routine stuff outside. They brought my meds to me in my car. It was a little jarring seeing the folks I know pretty well garbed up in gloves and masks.
I hope everyone is staying safe and serene today. Sending out a wish for unexpected encounters with puppies, or whatever makes you smile! ❤️?❤️
Wow. My brother had to reschedule 75% of non urgent visits to his practice.
Is your brother a veterinarian?
No, a surgeon for humans …I should have explained ?
You know, I’m astounded some facilities are still doing elective surgeries! I talked to a friend who works I in PACU and things are still chugging right along, elective surgeries as well.
He said most were for follow-ups that he knows can wait.
Today I’m wearing Ormaie Toi Toi Toi, a beautiful and slightly sweet incense.
Nice name!
Amazing name! That’s what opera singers use to wish each other good luck before a performance 🙂 It started in Germany
I’m still sick and very tired. No fever but I’m starting to wonder if this is more than a cold. Luckily I have food and supplies on hand. I’m wearing Ambre des Merveilles but can’t smell it much. Take care, everyone.
It sounds terrible to say, “I hope you have a cold”, but you know what I mean.
You too take care, Calypso! I hope it is just a cold and you recover soon. Sending hugs.
Take care, Calypso. Glad you have food and supplies on hand. Hope you feel better soon!
Sending hugs, Calypso! Maybe it’s time to visit the doctor?
Happy to hear you have no fever, but still, a call to your MD might be prudent. At least see if there is a possibility you can be tested, and if the virus is ruled out, it would remove a lot of stress, and maybe hasten your recovery.
I’m seconding this sound advice
I hope it’s just a cold too. Keep resting.
Oh no. As others have said, it may be good to call the doc.
Take care Calypso, and please report back when you can!
Robin, I hope that your errands went well earlier today!
A quick post & run… I will be back later to read all the comments. I stayed up FAR too late last night, and had a late wake up this morning as a result.
SOTD = Dioressence EdT, from the sample stash. Not sure if this is vintage or not, but Oh. My. It smells SO good! And as a result, so do I.
I think sleeping schedules are probably messed up for alot of people lately.
Yes, mine as well. Arizona doesn’t do time changes, and then I kept losing time as I traveled East. Really messed me up. ?
It hunk you’re right, lillyjo. I actually put a daily appointment on my phone calendar to tell me to go to bed!
“I think” ?
I think I’m getting an hour’s extra sleep now that I am working from home. It’s nice to not have to commute a total of 3 hours per day on a good day.
What am I wearing today, working from home? Anything I want! Definitely going to focus on that part of it, versus how badly prepared certain departments are, and how much scrambling and fumbling is being played out.
Yep, smell good and stay calm 🙂
Parfums de Marly “Hamdani”. In all honestly, I was just too busy all day to notice it.
I was surprised to get a delivery notification for some furniture we ordered back in December. I thought deliveries were suspended. Because of the virus they won’t bring it up into the apartment, but these are pieces I can manage myself once inside the building. I’m sure the delivery guys will appreciate less hanging around too!
Deliveries haven’t been suspended here in the US…yet
Hey everyone! For some weird reason, I’ve been super busy this week without time to read comments. Everyone smells great today! Most of my perfume makes me happy. Today’s pick is Ganymede.
Whenever I see the name of your perfume, for some strange reason, my brain always goes to JRR Tolkien. I have no idea why..? ?
Hobbits drink mead and there were several pub scenes in the movies. Maybe Ganymede is a preferred brand? It does not smell like beer. More like osmanthus and leather. ?
Probably because of Gandolf!
Glad to see you today ?
Nice to see you as well and hope your family is well. Stay safe!
Hey Petunia. I have to wear mine … next week! How are you social distancing?
I am still going to the office daily but there are so few of us. I could work at home if I really had to but I’d have to lug so many things that I prefer to go in for now. Just me and my office mate today and we have a wall of file cabinets between our desks. Most are working by remote so it’s a ghost town. Other than that just marketing weekly for essentials and hunkering down. I wish I could get my 80 year old mother to stay home. She only goes to a local market but I wish she’d use delivery. I think that I need to put her on house arrest. One of those ankle bracelets… So frustrating!
Yes, I second the house arrest idea for Mom!
Thick headed stubborn mule. I guess the apple doen’t fall dar from the tree.
My 85 year old aunt still is going to the store and church. Idk.. maybe once you’re that age you just figure what the hay?
Maybe I should get in the Dart Gun market?! I could sell the tranquilizer darts and guns to concerned family members whose elders refuse to stay home…!
I like that idea Deva!
That’s right. She also went to church. My oldest brother is an ordained pastor. I told her not to hug anyone or shake hands and she treats me like I’m the crazy one.
Our church has moved to 100% remote… well, except for the pastors and possibly the music director and other singers and instrument players (I hesitate to call them a band).
? My pastor brother is musical too. He played in the church band in the past. They were pretty good but too loud!
You can just walk there, right? And if you don’t have to deal with the public face to face, then it’s almost like you’re working from home.
I drive everywhere. I live in a rural town. Nothing is close enough to walk to except maybe the egg farm down the street.. Not even neighbors houses are very close. I have a 20 minute commute to work, which is excellent considering where I live.
They closed our office to the public. Only coworkers right now.
Oh my! Over 200 comments!
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio To Dream
https://www.instagram.com/p/B97mbg5B2ZZ/?igshid=16aena6rwuryy
One of my earliest and favorite scents from Sonoma Scent Studio. It’s currently not available on the website and I have a feeling it is officially discontinued.
In other news, I used to donate blood ? (hello Gallon card) since my O+ blood is missing something (I never found out what it was) that makes it ideal for people who have had multiple transfusions. Because I couldn’t stay away from watching reports of the situation after my workday, I understand that we are heading towards a shortage of blood due to cancelled blood drives ?. So, for anyone who can donate blood, please do! I’ll watch from the sidelines because it is usually an ordeal for me to do so and I don’t need the extra stress.
Hey we posted at the same time! Twins!?
We are!
You remind me of my dad! He was a regular donator, too, and had the TShirts to prove it. We used to joke that he only donated to free clothing.
LOL
Never smelled that SSS but I am sure it’s great!
It’s wonderful…I know I should not hoard but I don’t think it will be possible to replenish.
Spray with abandon! ?
I’m off today, but had to go and finish my taxes, ugh..
I worked yesterday and we were way busier than we should have been under the circumstances. I’m still hoping we will close and that they will pay us.
I also called my cardiologist office to see if I just shouldn’t go into work, they referred me to the cdc website.
Today I wore I Miss Violet, Shangri La and Ambre Nuit. None of which made me happy.
As my daughter likes to say ” try again tomorrow “?
Wow 3 perfumes, sorry none of them worked try a fourth one:) and enjoy the rest of your day off.
I probably will! When I’m at home I tend to just wander and spray, lol.
I’m waiting to do my taxes. As to your cardiologist, he should have shown more empathy. But, I am speaking out of both sides of my mouth because when employees call with a question that has already been answered in the FAQs, we refer them back to the FAQs.
Yeah, idk… I just figured I should call to see if they were recommending anything different for thier patients. I’m already doing the things from the cdc.
And I love your daughter’s comment. She’s a pip!
She really is!
You know, I think the CDC has really let this country down. They are now suggesting healthcare workers who have been exposed to a know covid-19 person continue to work, with a mask. If masks are not available, a scarf or bandana is recommended…! ?
That seems really dumb. I was using my scarf to cover my face, briefly, but then I figured it was probably too sheer.
Yup! They’re very afraid of not having enough staff to care for patients, but don’t seem concerned about infecting inpatients with said staff members! Looney Tunes is running this cartoon…
Wow, that’s crazy!
Asinine! Sorry Robin! ?
Ach, no need to apologize. I saw that earlier today (the CDC statement) and was sure I’d misunderstood.
Wow! That’s quite a mix you had going there. I have days like that too.
I hope your employer is supplying masks and gloves for your safety.
I know!, but nothing was calling my name today.
We have gloves but no masks. Lot’s of sanitizer and wipes.
Don’t forget your eyes need protection, too. I’m STILL seeing people cough/sneeze without covering their mouth, or using their hands and then touching everything in sight! What kind of store do you work at? If it’s not essential stuff, they should just close! Who needs to buy new clothes or shoes right now?
It’s mostly clothing/softlines.
My manager said that corporate was looking at how to close and still pay us.
I’m glad you have gloves and sanitizer but it doesn’t sound like enough is being done to ensure your safety. They really should provide masks. One of my coworkers is on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale this week. I don’t think he should be allowed back to work without a two week quarantine. Why should we be at risk for his stupid decision to go? Furthermore, why haven’t they closed down the town… oh yeah, spring break… DUH
The receptionist at my dentist also went to Florida this week. I feel the same as you about it. Hopefully your coworker will just choose to work from home.
My dentist closed his office. Dentistry has to be right up there as one of the high risk professions to be at risk for covid.
It’s all about money I’m sure. I did read that since the governor hasn’t taken any definitive action, local politicians have started to shut down the beach’s in their area and basically “evict” spring breakers.
Oh boy, I’m finally commenting with my SOTD. It’s Papillon Anubis, a perfume that makes me ooh and ahh. I sprayed more than usual because I’m working from home for the foreseeable future so why the heck not! I have a lot more to say, but I think I’ll try to post earlier in the day tomorrow and say more then. Now to start reading from the top…
Commando for Thursday. It was a quiet day for me. If it had been nicer out, I would have worked out in the yard. Instead, I was online a lot, discovering that a number of authors of e-books are offering a book or two of theirs free for those folks who are staying home.
For those who would be interested in Christian romance, Valerie Comer and friends are offering some free.
JMS Books — jms-books.com — publishes LGBT books, and is offering some free. I particularly recommend getting Muscling Through by J.L. Merrow, for the humor. There’s a free short story of hers published there, too, one I also find very amusing. The title of the short story is “Good Breeding.”
Continuing with the “G” in LGBT, K.J. Charles is offering the first book in an historical paranormal series of hers free. It’s available as a Kindle, Nook, Kobo or Google book. That book is titled The Magpie Lord. The protagonists are the bloody-minded Lord Crane, sent off to Shanghai by his own father and reluctantly returning to England twenty years later, and powerful magician Stephen Day, who brings judgment down on those who use magic powers for evil.
Jordan L. Hawk has Widdershins free through BookFunnel. That’s the first in another historical paranormal series, this one with monsters and themes from H.P. Lovecraft, except without the racism and sexism, and with the addition of a sweet gay romance. The protagonists are Dr. Whyborne, intelligent but quite oblivious to the emotions and motivations of other people, and Griffin, a private detective haunted by an encounter with a monstrous creature. Griffin puts pressure on himself to be the late Victorian version of “the best little boy in the world.”
Those last two are what others call my “niche” reading. But there are a lot of other free e-books out there that are not so niche.
Happy reading!
