Happy Friday the 13th and happy National Jewel Day! Our community project for today: wear your blingiest, most attention-grabbing perfume (basically the opposite of last week).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm going with Robert Piguet Fracas for a day of chores and errands.
Reminder: 3/20 will be the International Day of Happiness. Wear the perfume that most reliably increases your happiness!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows actress Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret in Season 3 of The Crown.
You smell gorgeous!
I am wearing Hermes 24 Faubourg. A rich scent with a commanding presence.
Lovely, and yes, very opulent and fitting for the CP.
You smell divine! And very community project appropriate 🙂
You smell awesome! A big favorite of mine!
I almost chose that! You smell great!
You smell wonderful, 24 Faubourg was also on my list of possibilities for today.
Not really my blingiest but I’m completing a week of Nicolaï with Sacrebleu Intense. It’s definitely the blingiest of my Nicolaï collection, and the one for which I get the most compliments.
Lovely!
I was considering that one – def. one my richest scents! You smell great.
I love this one. Excellent choice!
Vintage Byzance by Rochas (I’ve been wearing it since it’s launch in the late eighties) comes in a sapphire-coloured bottle, but its aldehydic citrus opening has always made me think of a peridot — brilliant, sparkling yellow-green. The rest of it is a spicy oriental, but that opening is the most bejewelled scent I know of.
Ohhh, you smell wonderful. I used to wear Byzance in the 80s, even though it wasn’t really “me”. Could only afford the EDT, and at the time had never even heard of extraits, but I bet that’s what yours is.
It’s EDT! As with Mitsouko, I prefer the spiky brilliance of the EDT to the smoothness of the extrait.
In truth, Byzance isn’t really 100% me, either, but it’s so good that sometimes I just have no choice but to wear it.
That sounds beautiful- and I bet you smell the same.
I love that blue bottle!
Great choice! I have also been wearing it since its launch. So gorgeous.
Well, I chose MFK Aqua Celestia, not because it’s rich or opulent (it’s definitely not), but because I acquired the bottle from the Saks on El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert – that’s a pretty bling-y area. Anyway, Happy Friday, everyone!
Nice twist to the theme 🙂
Clever!
I chose Amouage Gold. I once let a friend smell it, she is not into perfume at all, and she said it smelled expensive, and it does. But above all, it is seamlessly beautiful and has one of the best dry downs ever.
Love it.
Wonder whether I will make it to France next week. No official restrictions yet, but things are changing by the hour almost.
Best of luck with your trip plans. It’s hard when everything is so up in the air.
It is, but, these are difficult times and not being able to go on a trip is not a major worry. I will be off work and the weather is going to be good next week, so if I can’t travel, I will just go on walks.
Joining you on taking lots of walks. Good to be outdoors with fresh air.
You smell great! Gold is one of my favorites too.
It is a real masterpiece. It’s the best aldehydic floral I own. And it just goes on, and on, and on in the most perfect way.
Good luck with your travel plans.
I have just cancelled my trip. Now is not the time to be selfish and silly!
Glad you cancelled — looks like most of France will be essentially closed anyway.
Yes, also I’m officially not allowed to travel outside of the country anymore because I’m a doctor. I might be needed. The risk of infection in France is slightly higher than in my own country but the problem is getting back in a few days time. They might not allow me to travel through Belgium which is doing slightly better than its neighbours.
Apart from that, it’s a shame to travel and not be able to visit anything. I’m not at all concerned about my own health at all, but I would not wish to be spreading things.
Gold was the perfume that let me ‘get’ aldehydes.
Mine was the original Nina, by Nina Ricci. But Gold is a more majestic gateway “drug”.
I love Gold, especially the older version in the mosque bottle.
I never got to sniff that one. I think I got my bottle 7 or 8 years ago, perhaps more. It’s probably not quite as good as Robert’s original creation. It is still a spectacular perfume though.
You guys made me in the mood for spice. 1899 HDP.
I am from NV..they have shut down buffets, clubs, theatres. Feels odd.
Positive side, a baby hawk hung out near my home yesterday, let me take some pictures..super cute. Hope he stays dry out there, been raining quite a bit.
Life feels very odd right now. But little things like seeing your baby hawk keep us going!
Nice choice, it’s been on my wish list for a while.
I was headed to Reno tomorrow to take my mom to see a comedian we both like and the show was cancelled. Now I’m on eternal hold trying to see if I can change our hotel reservations or if we’re just out of luck. In some ways this reminds me of that awful uncertainty after 9/11. Stay safe & stay healthy everyone.
Aww yeah, NV has great comedy shows, I love Brian Regan. So hilarious. Hope the hotel thing works out. Silver Legacy? They usually have the main comedy shows there in Reno.
That was the one! It was Kathleen Madigan.
Will check her out:) could always use more laughter:)
Love those juvenile hawks!
SOTD = Chanel No.5 L’Eau
Blingy but not overly so. I’m participating by wearing a pair of earrings I consider understated bling.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B9pwRZDhVii/?igshid=1crkwmht4epwl
We have a few more places to see before heading to the airport. It will be sad when I go to Wegmans tomorrow and see the empty shelves. I’m all stocked up but one never knows what I could still get, just in case. I will also ask an elderly neighbor if she needs anything.
Gosh H, nice earrings:) Can I borrow some bling? Lol. I am not feelin blingy today…more like mashed potato and sweats day Haha
Lovely earrings! I have a pair of gold Huggins (no stones) that I’ve not worn in years. They may be just the thing for a a Friday spent working from home.
“huggies” (not Huggins, not Huggies, not haggis, not hickies).
LOL!
Ah. But gold haggis I would pay to see!!
Beautiful scent and beautiful earrings, I love Huggies
Nice earrings! And you smell good, too. Chanel 5 was another consideration for me today because of the Monroe connection making it feel “blingy” in my mind.
Such a class act that one! I will fight the temptation to copy you instead staying true to my SL Iris Silver Mist.
Love the earrings. Tasteful bling.
Have a safe trip home!
Gorgeous. I almost always wear huggies.
Those earrings are beautiful. I still need to make it,to the Brooklyn Wegmans.
Nice rocks!
Gorgeous huggies! Perfect pairing with No. 5 L’Eau!
Those earrings are lovely!
Gorgeous earrings! My local Sprouts store was demolished today, I’m afraid to go to Costco. I’ve seen crazy video clips on FB. People have gone nuts.
I’m wearing Ysatis, from a bottle that is probably at least 30 years old, I haven’t worn it in a long time, and remembered it as spring florals. I thought there was hyacinth in it, but Fragrantica says not. However, there is narcissus, which also fits my personal spring floral project.
Nice!
bling bling! hi twin! 😀 You smell fantastic.
Some of the perfumes from that era age so well!
Vintage Shalimar extract. Actually it’s more civets than jewel like
Gotta have fur with jewels:)
Good point, but now about an hour later, I think she is wearing some serious powder beneath that fur.
Ha!!
Tom Ford Noir de Noir. Is it blingy? I don’t know – but it’s big (I only wear a dab) and Tom himself can be blingy. Happy Friday, all.
Tom Ford is definitely bling:) I put on my scent totally forgetting about bling lol. I can always bling another day lol.
You smell great in 1899 anyway!
I think so! Thx
Bois d’Encens, Armani
Its not blingy at all, but I had to work.
I had a few nice ideas for the CP though:
Angel by Mugler looks blingy….. Correction: anything by Mugler looks blingy haha. But no Mugler in my collection.
Bal à Versailles smells quite opulent, i dont have a bottle though, only a tiny decant, so maybe I’ll wear that tonight.
Oh and of course most Elizabeth Taylor perfumes would fit this CP ?
White diamonds, Black pearls…..
(I never tried them…but i bet they smell blingy as well)
I think Violet Eyes was good IIRC. Good idea about Liz Talyor, perfect.
To be honest i am not that familiar with most of her movies but growing up with my grandma’s gossip mags in the 80s ,i remember her mostly for her bling. ?
???
I have a bottle of Black Pearl and rather like it. Strangely enough, it’s not super blingy, but kind of soft and peachy, comfortable. I did think of wearing it today.
Bois d’Encens seems to be one of your most worn scents. It’s more elegant than blingy, but that is a good thing in my book!
Yup, i like it a lot. ? Its not even mine. I ‘steal’ it from my husband.
‘blingy’ is not my style. Though I admire folks who can pull it off!
The line between blingy and tacky can be thin though ?
Love Bois d’Encens, wonderful perfume, but certainly not in a blingy way.
Woke up in 1270 since I haven’t worn it in forever. I am wearing Kyoto again to fly under the radar at work. When I get home, Beloved will be my choice.
I can’t believe that schools in my state are closed for the next 3 weeks. I am starting to wonder if some of this is overblown.
I wonder too, I guess after Italy, that was it. I guess better to be careful but sheesh yeah..it is kinda nuts.
In Gallivant Istanbul, which is not my blingiest scent, but I consider it a pretty gem in my collection. It is simple, comforting, inviting, puts a smile on my face and for some unknown reason I associate it with memorable things in my life. I finished my decant today, but most likely I will purchase a full bottle this weekend.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Sounds like a good choice for next Friday’s CP!
It is! But so many scents fit perfectly that CP! Decisions….
I’m really happy you will be getting a bottle that you love ❤
It is a lovely one and I am breaking my no buy this year because of it. Hopefully, I will not fall into the rabbit hole again.
You’ve thunked a lot of things lately, so getting just one FB is a reward for a job well done!
Thank you! This week I thunked 7 almost empty decants. I feel sad, but good that they were favorites that I had the opportunity to at least enjoy a bit. I may thunk a couple more next week.
Commando, but really in Eau de Frustration because the credentialing “specialist” has once again jacked up my pre-employment testing.
Coming down out of the mountains at an 8% grade in wind, rain, and fog- fun times! ?
Happy friYAY all!
Ok, feeling better in Omnia??
Thinking of you, Deva! How is T-Rex doing?
This morning at 3am I got the paw tap, tap, tapping on my head because 3am is a PERFECT time to go potty. In the freezing rain/snow. Now, she’s sleeping like an angel while I’m using toothpicks to prop open my eyes. If I didn’t love her so much, she would annoy the heck out of me, lol!
We can all say that about our furry friends. What we put up with….
That last sentence has been said by every pet owner ever.
Yikes! Safe travels & I hope they get you sorted out. I can’t imagine how frustrating that must be (as if the regular pre-employment testing isn’t annoying enough).
Thanks, made it safe to Scottsdale for an entire afternoon stuck in a room with a bunch of other people. If anyone sneezes, I’m going to clobber them! An entire EMS crew is on lockdown here because they were exposed to a covid 19 patient..?
My facility just cancelled all meetings with over 10 people….so….no more pre-shift huddle? (I doubt it will apply to the floors)
I would LOVE to have huddle canceled permanently. ? I’m renewing my ACLS today in a classroom with a LOT more than 10 people so it’s full steam ahead here.?
Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down, Deva!
They seem to screw that up just about every time! Bon courage.
75% of the time, for sure. I had no problem with this recent contract. Part of the reason I changed to a new company was because of constant screw ups that ended up costing ME money because my start date got delayed more than once with the previous company. So over it! This is the only job these employees do, and still, they have no clue what they’re doing. They don’t understand the tests, don’t read the facility requirements, etc. Ugh! AND, this is after I told them 3 weeks ago my limited time to get this done because I worked mostly weekdays at the last contract…?
I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, and as soon as I did my smoke alarm went off for one second – just long enough to wake everyone up Dash what is that about? Is it dying? Is it dirty?
Right now I’m wearing memo Lalibela which is turning into something I am craving – and I’m not even really a vanilla person – but it’s really lovely!
Later on I will put on Vancleave and our pal‘s first. Using dictation – not correcting that
I love Lalibela!
I really liked Lalibela too, I’m saving the rest of my tiny decant for spring/summer weather! LOL at Vancleav and our pal!!!
Ours does that when the battery is low, but more than just once. Like every 10 min or something.
And thanks for not correcting that ?
Our smoke detectors will “chirp” when the battery is low. That’s probably the most likely reason.
ugh! that chirp makes me nuts. I had one of my smoke alarms replaced because it would wake me up randomly, like if a stray bit of dust landed on it or something. Hope you sleep well tonight.
In Ann Gerard Cuir de Nacre. I just realize it works double-time – I picked it for the pearl association, but Ann Gerard is a jeweler, too.
Anyways, it’s a beautiful soft (iris?) leather and smells not rich, but definitely elegant.
I need to plan for remote teaching today and feel a tad overwhelmed by how to fit in everything (we are losing a week of the semester to prepare, which makes sense, but makes the schedule tight). Students are anxious to hear what the plans are so I want to come up with my schedule today. Happy Friday!
Good luck with all of that Eschmeling!
you can do it, E! My daughter is a college kid. She was really worried when her campus announced it is closing for a while. But her professors have been in touch via email, explained what they know, reassured everyone that it will work out, though it will be a lot of extra work! Thank you for doing what you do. 😀
I’m wearing Dusita Splendiris today as well my good jewelry even though it is a work day and the atmosphere is surreal in these scary times.
It is seriously surreal. Pennsylvania is out of toilet paper as near as I can tell. Why, people, did you need so much toilet paper?
I know, it’s really odd. Tp is so expensive too. I think of all the perfume I could get with tp stashes lol. May hold a sign, “Will trade two rolls of Ultra Plush for Neimans gift card”. Lol
I am afraid my husband will go the other way around and trade my perfume for toilet paper 😉
My folks would totally do that! Uh-oh!
Mom and I noticed that at the local Giant. We were also like, “Why toilet paper?” Tissues we could understand, and I can kind of see stocking up on paper towels…idk
Gallon bottles of water were also sold out — spring water, purified, distilled, etc. I generally just drink tap water anyway, so I wasn’t particularly getting that aspect of it, either.
We were getting low on bread. I was surprised how much of that was left. That wasn’t getting bought out like some other products, at least as of the early afternoon.
I saw someone comment about how Bath & Body works has little bottles of hand sanitizers. That was a good thing to point out. I’ll note that using the Moonlight Path sanitizer and then eating Doritos was a fail for me, years ago. Ask me how I know. 😛
LOL on the Doritos!
That might have been me the other day. I’d also mentioned the health and beauty section of health food stores – some of the product lines you see there make hand sanitizer. I suspect it will be something that we’ll see other companies add to their lines in the near future… maybe even a Doritos scented one! ???
Our solution to the toilet paper shortage is we’re ordering a spray attachment for the toilet since we don’t have a bidet
Oh, boy…well, whatever works for you.
It’s a respiratory illness, not dysentery. Sheesh.
TP is pretty scarce here in NJ, from what my friends have been telling me. Several of them went grocery shopping either yesterday or today. I’m not going to bother, since we picked up our usual amount the last time we went grocery shopping. Not planning on eating it!
hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!! 😀
In terms of sheer size of the bling, I’m wearing Ambre Precieux, the bottle with the enormous red “gem” on the cap. And now a tiny rant against FedEx: I bought a bottle of perfume that was shipped on 3/5 from New Jersey. It arrived in Portland on the evening of 3/10. It sat overnight in Portland and then was sent to Troutdale, a suburb about 25 miles away, on 3/11. Yesterday morning, 3/12, it was sent to Kent, Washington, 160 miles away from Portland, where it will be transferred to USPS, who will take a couple more days to deliver it. Why wouldn’t they transfer to USPS when it was here in Portland? or even Troutdale? The mysteries of shipping “efficiency” continue to elude me.
Haha! That happens to me too! Recently ordered something, shipped from Southern California just a hop, skip and jump away, but it was flown to MEMPHIS, where is sat for two days before being sent to Arizona. Crazy..!
In SJP Covet, which has a little bit of bling to it. But after reading eschmeling’s comment on Ann Gerard, I realize I should have worn Theo Fennell.
I thought about Theo too.
Akro Dark layered on EldO Vierges et Toreros today. I woke up 10 minutes before I needed to leave the house and managed to get dressed, layer essence, serum, moisturizer and SPF, AND perfume myself before leaving the house. Winning!
My city is going into high risk mitigation of COVID-19 though. For now the next two weeks minimum will be me maintaining some strength and mobility from home, and being grateful I wasn’t counting on much performance income in 2020 as 90% of touring shows and festivals are being canceled for the next 1-6 months.
Oh, that’s really a shame. A lot of artists, musicians, wait staff, and hourly workers are going to be suffering a lot through all this. At my university a lot of the staff are wondering about whether they’ll still be paid when the whole university goes online.
I’m wearing Delrae Amoureuse today pre-shower because it’s just about my most va-voom scent, which I hope translates into blingy. (Spellcheck wants that to be “clingy” which might also be right!) I am about to try to wash some of it off though because in another hour I will be driving my kitty down the freeway to the vet oncologist and don’t want to overwhelm the office where I imagine a lot of people are especially full of anxiety and sadness. The poor cat’s lump on his shoulder is now expanding to go around his throat and I can’t manage to feel very hopeful about things. But oddly enough he doesn’t seem to mind and still has a normal appetite and likes to be with me and purrs, and that is comforting. Good luck to everyone. There’s a lot of panic buying here and grocery store shelves are being emptied at pre-hurricane levels. I think I’m stocked up well enough except I need more wine.
Wishing you good luck at the vets!
Sending you and kitty healthy & calm vibes.
Spellcheck did the same for me yesterday. I adore Amoureuse, so maybe the people at the vet’s will as well.
Hope your cat stays comfortable for a good bit longer!
I am so hoping whatever is growing on your kitty is very treatable. Fingers crossed!
Sending healing vibes to your cat.
Best of luck at the vet. Sending good wishes.
Sending kitty good luck!!!!
I hope that the appointment with the veterinary oncologist went well! Hugs Calypso.
Wishing you and kitty all the best.
Thank you everyone. Unfortunately Dusty has a Hemangiosarcoma on bone that is metastatic. It involves the blood vessels. Its very fast growing and extremely rare in cats. There isn’t any treatment. I have brought him home and will keep him comfortable until it’s time. It’s a blessing that for now he seems quite normal despite this huge lump. I am spoiling him with treats.
I am so sorry to hear this Calypso. More hugs, and I hope your time with Dusty is good for the both of you. ?
Adding that I’m very sorry as well, Calypso. Sending you some hugs!
oh! I’m sorry. Please give Dusty some loving scritches and belling rubs for me. What a day. Definitely calls for more wine.
belling? belly rubs please. silly autocorrect
I am so sorry for this devastating news. Sending you gentle hugs.
I’m really sorry, Calypso.
Last night the governor closed all the schools for 3 weeks. We now have 12 cases in the state. 3 of those in the city I work in. I just got done spending my paycheck at the grocery store. Mostly, I hate the panic around me. On a lighter note, today 3 marijuana stores opened up for buisness ?it’s a mad mad world!
Of course I had to wear Mugler for bling today. I’m in original Alien and I smell fantastic!
Wow, we are waiting for the schools to close here, I’m sure it’s coming. I hate the panic too.
I don’t like the panic either. I bought several bags of potting soil to do some re-planting today and the cashier asked “is that the new toilet paper?” lol
All my cat friends are sharing memes about using litter boxes as toilets!
?
It might be lol or leaves….ppl were jokin with the song, “all the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey” smh lol
The school district called my phone at midnight to let me know! I didn’t sleep at all. The closings set eveyone into major panic. Which really doesn’t help anything. I’m at work though, and it’s busy, so that’s a good sign I guess.
Of course Mugler it is. You smell fantastic (my own relation with Alien is that it fascinates me but is a tiny bit too much for me, but I keep testing it and admire it).
Try the Alien essence absolue, it’s quite cozy.
Starting to hear about school closures out here, too. Especially the colleges and universities. I haven’t heard anything about my local K – 12 district yet.
The OG Alien could be one of your signature perfumes if you ever decided to do that.
Yeah, I think if I had to choose it would come down to Alien, and Coco. I choose both!
Luckily, nobody is making you choose! ?
Smelling great lillyjo!
I’m a bit surprised that the schools here haven’t closed yet here. At work they are testing our PC’s and network to see if there’s a work-around to work from home, if we need to. At least I could blast myself with perfume if I have to work from home!
Montréal has closed the schools, people are supposed to work from home, then Hydro Québec has power outages due to high winds. The shelves are empty and there are fights trying to get into Costco, which is out of toilet paper, pasta, bread and bottled water. The world’s gone mad.
Alien is fantastic, perfect choice for today. 😀
My school is closed to students starting on Monday. I have to go in to work anyway, phooey.
take care!
I’m in Casmir. I think the bottle is kind of blingy.
My college daughter comes home today!? For how long, we don’t know. Her spring break is next week and her university has extended it by a week followed by a week of online classes. I’ll be glad to have her home.
I love Casmir! I had a bottle in the 90’s and lost it in one of our many moves (I’m a military spouse). I got a replacement last summer from ebay and I was happy to find it is just as lovely as I remembered. Enjoy your daughter’s visit!
Awww, three weeks with your daughter is such a treat! Enjoy the time with her. ?
That Casmir bottle is a beauty!
Casmir! Smacks forehead. I didn’t even think of it.
boom! Casmir is exactly what I would pick for today if I had unlimited choices. You smell like a sumptuous and decadent version of heaven. 😉
I’m in TF Shanghai Lily and having a day off at home. Shout out to the NSTer who was reducing her collection and allowed me to finally own more that a decant of this beauty!
The hospital where I work is insanely busy so I will probably end up picking up some extra shifts. 2020 got off to a rough start for me and it isn’t looking up right now. Take care everyone!
Shanghai Lily is a really good one. You smell wonderful.
thank you for all your do, Catanosmia!
This week was a doozy. Compared to folks whose income is immediately impacted, or who are sick, my week was just fine of course. But yesterday, when I was on hold on my landline and cell phone simultaneously for nearly two hours–I thought, GGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Anyway, happy to be back here and blinging in Bvlgari’s Amarena. Mine is from a most unblingy travel spray. But the full bottles are gems (figuratively and somewhat literally, although they look like they are easy to knock over).
I need to cancel a flight, and computer-generated voice told me that the wait was MORE than two hours.
I hung up and will try again this evening.
I can clean up my desk and read a book while I wait!
Hi there Oakland. I got your wonderful card yesterday (long, dull postal story not included) and I will email you this weekend . My email address has zimmereleven in it …in case it spams.
email sent to your comcast address
Amarena is on my test list, Bvlgari, another great bling choice:).
I certainly have enough perfume to get me through any quarantine…I’m wearing Safari. Stay safe everyone! <3
Ha, same here! I will smell good no matter what.
I think that just about all of us here should be able to get through a quarantine and still smell good. I mean, as long as I can replenish my perfumes after a few decades, I’m set
And soap! (and bodylotion, and tea …)
Same here! We will be smelling good in quarantine!
Wearing Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, the perfume equivalent of a necklace of huge, possibly rough-hewn, amber beads. Not my style either for perfume or jewellery, but it’s been fun wearing this decant.
Oh, BFMV is so nice. You smell great today!
My loudest house is Zoologist but most of their perfumes don’t remind me of jewelry, except the lovely Nightingale, which is what I’m wearing today.
I need to try that one.
I was so curious about Nightingale! What’s your take on it?
I’ve tried Squid and Elephant (both so gorgeous on other people but not good fits on my skin) and Hyrax, which I love but feels like it needs a X rating. Not for general public consumption!
Zoologist finally has a Canadian website now – even though they’re a Canadian company their online shop was in USD forever. May need to try more samples soon now that I won’t get dinged with currency conversions.
Thanks for the heads-up!
My choice of today was Moulin Rouge by Histoires de Parfum. It’s not very much me, but an interesting lipstick and powder scent.
We will get our wedding rings tomorrow. We chose not to engrave them now, in case we have to cancel the date because of corona virus.
Good idea! Things are getting put off everywhere.
enjoy! rings are a precious thing. 😀
Congratulations on your rings! Good idea to wait on engraving.
Taking a page from Jiji’s book, and am in Mugler Aura because of the blingy green bottle. Lots of people out walking this afternoon. I think walking outside is the ‘new gym’.
I was in a big Sephora yesterday checking out the new Gucci lipsticks. The SA suggested I pick out a couple of them, try them at home and just return them if they didn’t suit me. She didn’t encourage me to apply them at all. It really took me aback.
Was also taken aback when the fragrance SA told me that as of 3/23, Sephora stores would no longer be providing fragrance samples of any kind. The justification is that they are sampling out more perfume than they are selling. I’m not sure I buy their reasoning. ? What do y’all think?
Well, I think that I awful!!
One of the reasons that I go Sephora is that they are generous with their samples. Darn it!!
And, they want you to take expensive lipsticks home and try them out? And, then return them? It that the new normal??
I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. If they carry it, and it’s during one of the seasonal sales, I will buy from Sephora because I’ve received a lot of samples from them over the years.
As to the lippie, I’ve never had an SA tell me to avoid swatching. I’m sure it’s because of the corona virus.
I can see how Sephora might end up giving out more samples than selling bottles. I’ve done my part for that. My opinion is that some of the niche perfumes that the local Sephora carries are considerably overpriced for what they are. That’s the fault of the brands, not Sephora, but it certainly makes me hesitate to get a full bottle of those. I wish more of those brands had travel sprays. I know it’s more expensive per ml, but it would take me a while to use up 10 or 15 ml of a perfume anyway.
Well, I remember a guy on some FB perfume group saying he successfully made like a 30ml decant of Neroli Portofino from repeated Sephora samples, so it’s quite possible. I think perfume is not their big seller. It’s definitely the makeup, but that’s a bummer, for sure.
Oh, that’s just wrong! That’s abusing the privilege of getting samples.
To be honest, I don’t buy a lot of perfume there. I sample the new Ateliers, Chanels and Jo Malones when they come out, but rarely buy. A travel spray of Iris Rebelle was the last thing I bought there.
I’ve noticed in the last year or two, the SAs occasionally request my email address when I ask for a sample of something. They’re not by any means consistent in this, but it makes me wonder if they are tracking how much goes out the door in samples, and this is the result. Conspiracy theorist, right here! ??
Yeah, that was pretty extreme, lol. It seemed like some weird personal challenge. And that email thing is a little Big Brother-ish! I’ve never had them ask me.
I generally don’t feel particularly sympathetic towards large, mainstream chains/corporations where everything is incredibly marked up already, like someone else pointed out.
I’ve never felt guilty about asking for samples of things that I probably wouldn’t buy there if I wanted them because I’ve spent plenty there in my lifetime. Plus, I’d imagine they lose more with their return policy. I could theoretically buy a whole bottle, use it a few times and then return it for a refund. That seems pretty wasteful. I sometimes wonder if employees run a ring on Ebay sales of returned perfumes and some cosmetics that get dumped in the storage room…
I believe them. While I try to be good about buying what I sampled from the place that gave me the sample, most of what Sephora sells can be found much cheaper elsewhere…
Bye bye Sephora. I so never liked that store lol. But would occasionally go in for samples or a small travel spray. Hate the vibe in that store, hate the black n white stripes..I think it’s gaudy. Prefer Ulta if I had to choose.
I will note that going in for samples would sometimes trigger other purchases while in the store..but now no reason to go there.
I’ve never liked them either. It always smells so stale when you enter – like products have gone off. ?
A Canadian programme called ‘Marketplace’ did a spot about cosmetics testers not long ago. Here’s the link:

I got an email from Sephora yesterday that mentioned what they are doing in regards to CV-19. I bet that is what’s up with the lipsticks. Not sure why they are dropping perfume samples, though. But Nordstrom quit carrying them on their website a while back. Maybe they are following the competition?
I’m going with comfort today wearing Honey & Crocus.
You all smell absolutely beautiful and very blingy!
Be safe.
Comfort is a good choice floragal — you stay safe too!
Comfort scent twins today!
Wearing M. Micallef Hiver because the bottle is decorated with blingy crystals.
Glad I went to the MFA yesterday since all the art museums here are closing indefinitely because of coronavirus. Harvard and some of the other colleges are telling all the students to go home and that classes will be online after spring break. The grocery store was very busy. Can’t figure why people are stocking up and hoarding toilet paper since it’s a respiratory disease.
I’ve been wondering the same thing! It’s not a pandemic of norovirus or some other GI infection. Same with bottled water. Maybe I’m the only tap-water drinker?
There was a sign at my supermarket saying, “If you need 144 rolls of toilet paper for 14 days of quarantine, you should have gone to the doctor long ago.”
Lololol that’s great
LOL!
HA! I love that!!
??!
Love that!
Think the TP hysteria is because people are worried about the supply chain getting disrupted. Also, if they get sick, they don’t want to be running out for tp or whatever else could have been stored in the pantry.
The paper goods section at Target just now was utterly barren. They were out of pasta & sauce too.
One of my friends works at a Wegman’s. She posted a picture the other night of a totally empty pasta aisle.
No pasta or canned beans left at my local grocery store too.
I’ve always thought Italian do bling well, even when it’s over the top it’s still somehow tasteful I think, so I chose an Italian, classic, big perfume: K de Krizia, my vintage splash bottle has two tops which have preserved the scent very well too.
You smell wonderful.
Thank you Lillyjo, it is a pleasure to wear that one.
I am wearing Tom Ford Vert Boheme.
I don’t know if it smells rich, but it smells great!
Yes! You do smell great.
I went the literal route with Bombay Bling. Had to go very light on the application though for work. Still smelling great.
Perfect!
Gorgeous scent!
You smell great!
I think the fragrance I’m trying currently is like an “anti-bling.” LOL. I sprayed on a little bit of Demeter Pink Grapefruit. The plan for tonight is that I’ll go to the movies with a group, so I don’t want something that will last a long time. 🙂
Lol grapefruit can be sparkling..it counts:)
You’re a generous judge, Omega. 🙂 Thank you!
Nice perfume finds you had last night!
I’d found the extrait and cologne of the Bellodgia in that storage box a couple of years ago, but it was cool that Mom found the EdT yesterday. The bottle of the EdT is halfway used up, so that’s why I’m thinking 1980s or maybe 1970s, when Nana would have been wearing perfume and getting out and socializing.
Mom inherited all of Nana’s possessions, but has given things to my brother and me if we could use them and she didn’t need them. She’s taken quite a few years to go through some of the boxes, but I can understand that she’d have feelings about some of the things.
Of course. It’s normal that some things would carry emotional weight. Lucky you to have all those versions of Belladgia!
Um, that should be “Bellodgia”. Whoops.
The days are drawing in down here and I had my first ‘headlamp’ dog walk of autumn yesterday, through the forest as the birds were calling from the trees and the light wind rummaging through the leaves. It was a beautiful warm morning. The bracken has dried off a bit and smells a bit like myrrh.
I’m afraid i haven’t been looking at NST for a while (as I haven’t been ‘doing’ perfume ) so I hope everyone is in good health and doing well and not stuck in transit. Today, once I get up, I will wear copper which is not blingy but a great scent. Maybe boucheron later.
Gosh, it’s nice to see you all here again.
It’s so good to see a post from you, Kanuka. I’ve missed your poetic comments. Also there are heaps of daffodils in The Netherlands right now and I always think of you whenever I see them.
Autumn is so beautiful, as is spring, although I think I prefer autumn smells.
I have missed you too, and hope that your grief has “settled” a bit. I know the pain of loss never goes away, but I have found it gets less “sharp” or something.
Kanuka, the birds are chirping here now in the morning, and they make me think of you. I’m really glad to see you here today.????
It’s good to have you back posting Kanuka. Be safe, and be well.
Lovely to see you here again.
I’m so glad to see you here, Kanuka.
Welcome back; you’ve been missed.
Nice to see you, Kanuka. I’ve missed your posts and hope you are beginning to heal.
waving to you across the Pacific!
So good to see you post again! Autumn is my favourite season, with the brilliant leaves and geese honking overhead as they fly south. I hope you are starting to feel more calm after the storm of grief.
Nice to have you back!
The sun is shining brightly today and had I worn what I originally planned for today’s cp it would have been a perfect complement to the day: Jean Patou Sublime in edp form. Although not a ‘jewel’ per se, nor ‘blingy,’ I find it ‘golden’ and ‘dazzling’ in its ylang-ylang amber splendor and that’s good enough for me. One of my favorite scents, especially on a golden October day, I also think it is one of the most aptly named fragrances. It truly is sublime!
But the corona virus repercussions have been so dismal and depressing, I didn’t want to associate a fragrance I love with such a difficult time, so I chose not to wear it. Here in my Chicago suburb, pretty much all activities/events/sports have been cancelled, and everything that normally brings joy to my daily life has been put on hold. I’m trying to focus on the snowdrops outside my window in full bloom and the promise they hold – the trees will soon be leafed out, more flowers will bloom, and remind me they have survived winter and the sun always returns.
So, instead, I chose a seldom-worn yet lovely scent, the Parfum version of Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds I have in mini form, that is far more warm and soft and comforting than the loud and brash and blingy original edt. Just a drop or two of the Parfum is sufficient – I don’t usually like white florals and I have no idea where I got this from, and I seem to recall the Parfum version was a favorite of Mais. And at least its name fits today’s cp!
Wishing everyone a good weekend ahead, stay well!
Dismal and depressing here too, Laila — hope you can keep your spirits up!
Just came back from grocery shopping, I can’t believe the empty shelves – first time in my life every single banana was gone! How do you hoard bananas??? Our library, which had cancelled public programs yesterday, is now totally closed for the rest of the month (I will definitely go into withdrawal) and the Governor just closed all k-12 schools in the state from Tuesday thru the end of the month. But the sun is still shining brightly, and I’m going outside to commune with my beautiful snowdrops . . .
White Diamonds is beautiful!
The bananas were all gone at my neighborhood grocery too. So odd.
Weird, yesterday only paper products were gone when we went shopping.
I bought a travel spray of Eau de Cashmere, which arrived yesterday. So, I decided to pair it with Gourmand Coquin to see what would happen. It softened GC too much in my view. But I’m looking forward to experimenting.
So…I’ve gone blingy in Viva la Juicy. It’s the bottle! I never wear this, but I might start. Husband pronounced it good.
The only supply today that concerned me was coffee. Yes, we have some but to replenish I’d have to go to Trader Joe’s, and I don’t want to bother with getting there and finding my coffee out of stock. So…across the street to Starbucks I went. Splurged by getting my husband a peppermint mocha and a chai latte for me. There were people hanging out, just fewer than I think would normally be there. The craft brew place had its normal allotment – they serve coffee and pastries in the am.
My son and I stopped in Starbucks too — fastest latte I got there in years.
No real blingy perfume for me today since I don’t wear anything heavy to work, and I’ve also lost my taste for anything loud in the last year or 2.
So, I went with BVLGARI Ashlema (sp?) from the Le Gem collection. A nice lavender-violet- iris thing. It was nice in the cool drizzle this morning, but it’s actually bugging me since it cleared up and got warmer.
I hope everyone has a safe weekend!
Fortunately, our local supermarket was still pretty fully stocked last night, except for the paper supply isle. There seems to be a lot of variation in people’s response to what’s going on. I’m just grateful that the subways are way less crowded for a change.
You smell great! Ashlema is a gorgeous scent. You reminded me that I need to bring my decant to the front of the cabinet. I am greatful the subways are not crowded. However, the buses I take are, which makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.
Thank you! It is rather nice. One of my coworkers won’t take the subway and will only take buses now eventhough she knows that doesn’t really make sense. I think psychologically people feel like buses are cleaner or airier or something.
They clean the metro more frequently than the buses in Montréal, plus I find it less claustrophobic for some reason.
We took a walk this afternoon up the East River. A very normal amount of people out for such a nice day. What was a bit amusing, disconcerting was the number of school kids playing basketball and getting all up close and personal…
We hopped on a bus on the way home and were the only passengers.
I just took a walk up the E River, but on the other side, lol. Williamsburg is pretty populated, lots of people eating at crowded tables outside, in bars, shopping, etc.
Since you’ve lost your taste for loud perfumes, do you still have bottles of them in your collection?
Not really, except in minis which I collected for a display I’ve always wanted to make, but have never gotten around to. But I’ve also given some stuff away over the years. I also don’t have a very large FB collection-by perfumista standards-anyway (and want to keep it that way).
I’m similar, not very blingy with perfume, clothes, jewelry and so on. I guess that’s why I was hoping someone would wear something super loud today, like maybe Casmir – so sweet and syrupy and big.
I’m wearing the original Badgley Mischka, a big extravaganza of boozy fruit and florals and… leather, to my nose?
That sounds gorgeous!
Oh, yes the fruit salad one, it’s very cheerful, interesting, I don’t get leather just a lot of patchouli.
I am wearing Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil as Cartier is a pretty bling place, and the scent is pretty bling too. At 5:00 I have to go to be tested for Covid because I was in Hawaii and California and then a few days later came down with cold symptoms. I really don’t think I have anything more than a cold and cough courtesy of my grandchildren, but I have been self-isolating in any case since I got the symptoms, whether or not I have it because the cancer therapy has probably left me with a compromised immune system. In retrospect I should have isolated as soon as I came back from travelling in the US, but that wasn’t even being mentioned at the time. At any rate, the treatment is a great deal different whether I have Covid 19 or a bad cold.
I hope you don’t test positive for Covid 19 and you just have a simple cold. Sending positive vibes! Feel better soon!
I sure hope it comes up negative. It’s really scary being immune-suppressed. I am as well. Take care!
Oh no! I hope your test turns out negative!
I hope all is well, fingers crossed for you.
Fingers crossed your test is negative. Sending positive energies your way.
Sending the best health wishes to you!
Oh, please keep us posted!
Oh, dear. I hope it’s negative, but good you’re getting checked, and able to get tested.
take good care! The other day I had a bit of a sore throat, it’s gone now, but it gave me pause. I hope you have time and space to rest and recover.
Covid19 is apparently fever, dry cough, sore throat and body aches. If you have a runny nose, it’s just a cold. Sending you lots of healing vibes.
Cazaubon, there are people who have tested positive who did not have all those symptoms…and there are still reports that some people can carry it and transmit it with no symptoms at all.
Oh absolutely, I just read in an epidemiology report that if you have a sore throat and runny nose, it’s l
More likely a cold than Covid19.
Sending good health vibes.
I went with HdP, 1889 Moulin Rouge for this project. It’s about as blingy as I get.
Lol! You still smell great!
Moulin Rouge! because we can can can 😀
warning! lots of petticoats and dancing legs here:
https://youtu.be/SsHS-Rpnh1E
I don’t exactly fit the CP, but I smell great again in Slowdive, and the open window next to me is admitting the sweet Bay Area air, scented with jasmine, various citrus and stone fruit blossoms, roses, irises, and millions of other flowers. I’m sipping lemon verbena fizzy water made by batch brewing lemon verbena leaves I picked from a plant in my nearby community garden. Working from home could be worse.
That sounds heavenly, Koyel!
That sounds pretty darn good actually!
jasmine in the air is lovely. 😀
Wow, that sounds like a nice day, with the flower fragrances and all. 🙂
At my hair appointment in Nahema, definitely one my most opulent perfumes.
That one is beautiful!
I was just thinking that Nahema would be perfect for this CP. You smell mahvelous!
I’m in the opulent, blingy, queen of scents that is the baroque Diva by Ungaro. It goes well with my yoga pants and sweatshirt!
Perfect combo!
yoga pants go with everything! 😀
Lol
It was a grey and wet start to the day, but the sun came out around 10-ish or so this morning. My neighbor’s forsythia is covered in cheery yellow flowers now. So pretty! ?
I hope Mr. Jalapeno doesn’t have to start working from home, since that would definitely cramp my style. I prefer doing chores when he’s not around to get in the way. ?
SOTD = vintage Diorissimo EdT, from the sample stash. I think missisonista wore it yesterday, so thanks for the inspiration. I just can’t with blingy scents right now, so not on beam with today’s CP.
Omg doing chores with the SO underfoot… I FEEL YOU.
Yeah I wasn’t feeling bling today either… I think a lot of us are feeling coronavirus hit home this week in North America and while it’s for the greater good that places are getting real about slowing infection rates, it is kind of a bummer as well.
I found out earlier tonight that Mr. Jalapeno has a mandatory work from home all next week. ?
Nooo! Hopefully he doesn’t do what Mr. Teebear does that drives me BATTY:
(after I’ve been cleaning 1hr already): “How can I help?”
NOPE. JUST. LOOK around and find somewhere that could be cleaned or tidied and then DO IT if you want to help. Don’t make my emotional labor part of the process!
… In all fairness Mr. Teebear is 100% very legitimately a better human than me. But he’s very messy and compromising on general household order is something we’ll always still be working on. I still love him tho.
I hope Mr. Jalapeno is reasonably discreet at home and that you survive this upcoming week together! You’ll need to post updates ?
Basically I have my way of doing things, he has his, and they aren’t necessarily compatible sometimes.
My sun just came out. Glad you got to see some.
Yay for you getting the sun as well! ?
happy to hear the sun and forsythia are brightening your day. 😀
When I lived in NJ I had a forsythia hedge along one side of the yard that was a gorgeous yellow every spring. My Trader Joe’s store surprised me, they had bundes of forsythia cuttings when I was there yesterday. I bought some and now have cheery yellow buds in my kitchen.
I have some fond childhood memories of forsythia. One of them was my dad showing me how to make the blossoms twirl like little helicopters. ?
Working from home is a mixed blessing, hope everything will go smoothly in your household.
Wearing some vintage Poison edt tonight.
It’s looking cold and blustery tonight and it’s staying for the weekend. Plus with golf and hockey cancelled it looks like I will have control of the TV remote this weekend (and possibly foreseeable future). Hunkering down for a quiet weekend!
Poison was actually on my list of possibles for today! I have a wee dabber sample of the extrait.
Wow. I bet the extrait is crazy good!
It smells like how I remember Poison was back in the day, but wow it is ever smooth. No blowing people out of elevators with this one. ?
go Team Vintage! 😀 Poison is gorgeous. I vividly remember when it was new, all the purple at the perfume counter, the opulent smell in the air.
Enjoy the TV remote. I’m hoping for a quiet weekend too.
I went through at least 2 bottles of edt back in the day. It’s still fun bringing this one out once in a while.
Enjoy your weekend!
My first real perfume. 🙂 So many happy memories of Poison.
SotD = Ysatis
from a 30+ year old manufacturer sample vial. It’s still gorgeous, such pretty florals, almost syrupy, and definitely top shelf. 😉 I don’t wear it often so it felt great today. Such a fun Friday theme. Thanks, Robin!
Ah, those oldies but goodies!
I have a whole lotta Amouage Gold on tonight. Exceptionally rococo, stunningly beautiful. Exactly what the doctor ordered after a surreal week.
We were twins then, for a while. It is so stunningly beautiful and it just goes on and on and on in the most wonderful and enchanting way.
I am wearing an opulent gift from my husband, the massive gorgeous incense bomb that is Rundholz 3.April.1968.
Those Rundholz date names are fascinating!
