It's Friday! It's also the The Day of the Dude. Our community project for today: Take it easy, man.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I wish I had some Demeter Mr. Bubble (remember the bathtub scene?) but I don't so I'm in Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate for the "Take it easy, man" part, which as it happens I could use this morning anyway.
Reminder: 3/13 is National Jewel Day...wear your blingiest, most attention-grabbing perfume.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Taking it easy in AdV Iris Nazarena. So comforting! Another decant that I am saying good bye to today.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Thunk!
?
Another beauty!
It is indeed a wonderful iris perfume!
Iris IS the thing for takin’ it easy. You smell fantastic.
Thank you Tiffanie!
Mmm, Iris Nazarena! My cat recently knocked my bottle off a high shelf and despite the heavy glass bottle, it broke 🙁
I am very sad they are no longer making this one!!
You must have had an incredible smelling room
He actually brought down a bottle of Cristalle and Cuir de Russie, too, 🙁 🙁 🙁 so the room (and the cat) smelled super weird for about a month.
Needless to say all my bottles are in drawers now 🙂
???
Oh no! That is terrible! I am sorry you lost such and elegant and beautiful scent! It is so heartbreaking, especially when they are discontinued!
So that’s at least 3 Thunks this week!
Yes, you remember wel! I wish I didn’t have to thunk them and I have more to thunk next week.
Better that your decants get enjoyed and thunked rather than evaporate into the aether!
I think the Dude would have just reached in my sample bin and picked out a random scent (I mean, don’t overthink it!), so that’s exactly what I did….
Wearing Replica Lipstick On. Tonight when I get home (away from the Perfume Grinch) I’ll find a dirty patchouli to honor The Dude! 🙂
Excellent.
I had the same patchouli idea and was going to wear Patchouli Patch, but I didn’t fancy it this morning!
Lush Big.
Big = The Big Lebowski
Besides, Lush has this hippy style and makes a lot of bath products.
And if you think that my interpretation is too loose… Yeah, well, you know, that’s just like your opinion, man. (I wanted to write it here all week. :D).
And I could use some “take it easy” myself this week. A very busy week at work.
Nice…I wanted someone to write it here all week 😉
Happy to oblige! 🙂
Oh, do you have the Lush Big perfume? I have it AND the shampoo!
I have the body spray.
House twin!
How is the body spray? I have the conditioner and like the smell, but I’m having a hard time telling what it smells like. I haven’t seen the body spray in person.
Hi twin!
Close to the smell of the shampoo (I think the conditioner is slightly different), but less salt and more neroli, in my opinion.
Thanks! The conditioner smells kind of salty/beachy to me.
Yes, all Big products have this ‘beach spray’ vibe. I also got some coconut from the conditioner (but I smelled it years ago in the old formula). The BS reminds me of the smell of skin at the beach – you know, sea water and slight sweatiness. And neroli is done a bit like neroli in Rubj (although maybe it is just me).
Loved your comment. We watched that film too many times in our early thirties!
Thank you. This fim has a lot of funny lines.
I am in Shiseido Zen (original) a lovely fruity floral chypre with real oakmoss and sandalwood. I used to see the black floral bottles of this all of the time.
Zen is perfect, and such a gorgeous bottle. 😀
Good idea, i have the vintage too
I accidentally picked my SOTD in the chillest possible way, with the assistance of my long-haired-and-bearded, way-chiller-than-me husband.
INT — NIGHT — APARTMENT
Regina: What perfume should I wear for the Day of the Dude?
Mr. Doublemint: I dunno, Bon Ami?
Regina: I think you mean Bel Ami… why did you pick that one?
Mr. Doublemint: It was the only one I could think of.
HA, all perfect. Bon Ami.
LOL!
??
Ha!
LOLOLOLOLOL!!! Bon Ami! Some uptight guy at Hermes just spit out his coffee in a rage. 😀 😉
Double LOL!
LOL!
?
??
You never know, a Bon Ami perfume might sell. Sort of the ultimate “clean” scent.
I am wearing Galop d’Hermes today. I am not sure if it fits the theme, but it is one of my favorites. Tonight is my daughter’s engagement party, and I will probably refresh myself later on with a few more squirts of Galop.
Oh, hope her party is lovely!
Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement!
congrats! enjoy every minute. 😀
Congratulations for your daughter!
Congratulations!
Have fun, what a happy occasion.
What a wonderful occasion! Galop is such an elegant perfume.
Congratulations, and enjoy your daughter’s engagement party!
Wearing Dame Sky Father. Not sure the scent fits but I’m going with it anyway.
Duuuuude!
I’m in Bvlgari Omnia because I lacked the imagination this morning to pick something else. Plus, it’s great!
And its YOU!
Belated birthday greetings from a fellow Omnia lover. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead filled with memorable adventures for you and your furbaby. And thank you for sharing them with us!
Following up on a daily lemming… I ordered the Thymes Lemon Leaf counter spray, and the scent is phenomenal. Of course, like all Thymes fragrances, the fragrance is fleeting, but so good while it lasts.
Oh good, very glad to hear it! Thanks.
SotD = dyptique 34 boulevard st germain
For today’s sniffs and giggles I’m going with the flow in 34bsg.
So good, it makes me think “what’s that smell?” then I realize it’s me.
34bsg is woody and spicy and sometimes vaguely alcoholic. There’s a deeply relaxed base note of bathrobe that makes me smile every time.
dudeist philosophy via Mark Twain: I am no lazier now than I was forty years ago, but that is because I reached the limit forty years ago. You can’t go beyond possibility.
Happy Friday, dudes! 😀
I like the Twain quote. 🙂
thanks, cazaubon! In Twain’s honor I’m skipping work today. Gonna do an hour of yoga, ignore my to do list, and read a book until I fall asleep. 😉
Ha! Great quote ?
That Twain quote is excellent! ?
Robin, thank you for the pic of Sam Elliott – possibly my earliest memory of him is in Mask, a lovely film, but just looked at his list of work & he was in Once An Eagle, which was on British TV when I was in my late teens & which I remember being glued to at the time with my then flatmates. He was always gorgeous, & has aged like fine wine, but oh my word his voice – he could stand in my kitchen & read my grocery shopping list & I would be completely undone for days…!
I think that’s also the first time I saw Sam Elliot. He’s very swoonworthy.
Me too!
Swoonworthy – that’s a cracking word, will have to find a use for it, Lillyjo!
Sam Elliot, those eyebrows and that moustache, sigh, gets me every time.
Speaking of Sam Elliott. Today I watched the interview with the Coen brothers on the Big Lebowski, and they mentioned his reaction to his part in the film: “I don’t know what I am doing here, boys. Happy to be here, don’t get me wrong. But…” 😆
Ha!
Oh, check him out in “Lifeguard.” A LOT of no shirt scenes! ?
Taking it easy in Shalimar Cologne, Grazie to the Goddessrena
I am wearing all red today. Just feeling this color
Ciao amici

A song for you ltsg!
It’s early on the West Coast, so I will wear Hermes Hiris once I’m dressed for this laid-back, Dude of a day.
I laughed when my hubby thought that I should go grocery shopping with him instead of having a fun day out with my friend. Relax, man!
Laughing out loud with you!
Let’s go bowling. 😀
He dared! ?
???
Bruno’s Ummagumma. About to do some morning yoga. Then working from home. (But this time not by choice. I live in Seattle.)
Oh no, quarantine! At least you smell good.
Thanks. I realize I probably sounded too dramatic – I’m not quarantined, but Seattle/King County is encouraging folks to work from home. And my boss told me he’d like me to stay home.
Yeah, my company is not requiring people to work from home at this point but everyone knows they are welcome to if they choose. I’m glad because I don’t really enjoy working from home except every once in a while. I’m hoping this all dies down soon.
Oh, and my commute has been so easy all week because so few people are going to work!
Yes ditto, I mostly prefer to work in the office AND the commute has been great, but now we’ve been asked to work from home until 4/3. Will things be any better then? So many questions.
Yoga for me this morning, too! ommm 🙂
I would have worn Shiseido Zen if I had any, like monkeytoe, but I do have vintage Feminité du Bois so I’m going with that instead.
Things are not too zen around here as my husband quit smoking on Sunday and is growling and stomping around like a bear, but the good news is I’m feeling better – thanks for all the kind wishes!
Glad you are feeling better!
Best of luck to your husband!
Yes, ditto!
Glad you are feeling better!
Glad you are feeling better, cazaubon! And I hope your hubby doesn’t growl too much today.
happy you’re better, cazaubon! 😀 kudos to your husband, that’s a wonderful thing he’s doing.
Glad you’re better, sorry for you both though, the early days are notoriously difficult.
UGH. But very good luck to him, boy is it hard to do!
This is at least his third attempt. I’m hoping it will be his last.
Crossing fingers! ?
Glad to hear that you are feeling better! And good luck to your husband. ?
I’m in Eau Duelle, not sure if the Dude would approve, but my coworkers do.
Excited to be wearing a new pair of work shoes and hoping my feet feel better at the end of the day than they have been. My old ones were 2 years old.? I’m sure they had a lot of miles on them, it was time for them to go.
two thumbs for Eau Duelle and for new shoes! you and your feet deserve the TLC. 😀
Good work shoes are priceless. Hope they help your feet.
Hurray for new work shoes! If your feet hurt, you hurt.
Struggling with The Dude connection this AM. Wearing Hongkong Oolong–the Maurice Roucel and Alan Chan project for Nez, which I am also struggling with. (The struggle is real!) I have been waffling all morning between”Nope, not gonna do THIS again” and “Hmmm?”. If anyone is curious about it, ping me and I’ll send you some (CONUS). See https://www.luckyscent.com/product/770016/hongkong-oolong-by-nez and I am at: ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
I absolutely love oolong tea! I will shoot you a message, my mom is my perfume mule in the US if you don’t mind sending it care of her (it encourages me to visit!)
So happy to do so!!
Happy Friday all!
I’m in Ambre Nuit today. I think it’s CP compliant ?
If you think it is, then it is!
Not sure if it fits the theme but I’m wearing Osmanthe Yunnan!
Happy Friday everyone!
Ah, you smell happy in any case!
I’m in LUSH American Cream, which is supposed to smell like a strawberry milkshake, which seems like perfect (stoner) dude material.
It’s a cozy scent for a gray, soon-to-be rainy, cool day.
Thanks for that explanation. I really wasn’t sure about this cp.
Neither was I, lol. I think it’s open to interpretation.
It is possibly the most open to interpretation CP ever.
I’m going to have to check this out! I love to run across perfumes on here that I can try out locally!
I really like it! It smells more like a sweet, musky iris/vanilla to me, with maybe a plastic doll’s head vibe. And, yes, always a bonus when you can find things to sniff locally.
I’m going to retry this. I think when I tried it before, I had sprayed so many things, all I could make out was vanilla.
Wearing LADDM today. Is it just me or has STC changed? Ever since they redid their website, I noticed they don’t have the 5% under $75 or the 8% $75 and over. Not that I get too many decants but I took advantage of the 3ML sale yesterday and noticed it.
I’m not sure either but I bought a decant during their 20% off sale last week.
I missed the 20% sale but it was probably a good thing I did.
I never watched The Big Lebowski so wasn’t sure about the dude reference. I went with Indochine because it’s totally unisex, maybe leaning masculine. IDK….
Plus the name Indochine just sounds cool ?
Right!
See my answer to foxbins below, you really don’t need to see the movie!
I’m wearing Vetiverissimo. I don’t know if it fits the CP or not but it works for me.
It think anything fits todays CP as long as your taking it easy while wearing it
Being a big ball of anxiety, this cp does not come natural to me. I went with Narciso edp white cube because it’s probably the most easiest to wear perfume that I have. Fits about every occasion/season and is not boring.
I think that is a great interpretation of this cp!
Thanks!
It’s the only NR Iiked when I tried it the names are just annoying to keep track of anyway. Thank you for approving my portable sunshine yesterday.
It’s really the only one I like, although L’absolu is very nice too.
Song of the day: “Go With The Flow” by Queens of the Stone Age. Enjoy!
Thanks for the song!
In the easygoing Lattedoro today
Was thinking of wearing Davidoff Zino for the hippie patchouli, but went with Musc Nomade for the dirty musk.
You smell great!
I wanted Timbuktu this morning so that’s what I did. I reckon it works with the project…
It works with any project.
I confess I have never seen The Big Lebowski, so most of the references to the movie escape me. I’m wearing Carnal Flower today.
The link above does tell you what “dudeism” is, and I really don’t think you need to see the movie to get it!
From the link:
The Dudeist belief system is essentially a modernized form of Taoism stripped of all of its metaphysical and medical doctrines. Dudeism advocates and encourages the practice of “going with the flow”, “being cool headed”, and “taking it easy” in the face of life’s difficulties, believing that this is the only way to live in harmony with our inner nature and the challenges of interacting with other people. It also aims to assuage feelings of inadequacy that arise in societies which place a heavy emphasis on achievement and personal fortune. Consequently, simple everyday pleasures like bathing, bowling, and hanging out with friends are seen as far preferable to the accumulation of wealth and the spending of money as a means to achieve happiness and spiritual fulfillment
I chose L Air de Rien for the dude. I am sure he smelled a bit like musty patchouli and lightly unwashed hair. And its one of my favorite scents, so i am keeping it cool and relaxed too
You smell great and Good choice for the cp!
Fully participating in the CP – on vacation visiting my folks in SoCal, doing nearly nothing, and wearing Chanel Cristalle EDT (over copious amounts of sunblock). Mom is trying a tiny spritz of vintage VdN EDC, so she’s participating too. 🙂 We’re about to go to an art exhibit – hoping it’s still on and not closed due to the virus panic.
Oh yay, hope you are having good weather!
It’s gorgeous here in San Diego!
It has been beautiful, thank you! It got a little overcast and very muggy this afternoon, but it has mostly been sunny and in the high 70s all the time I’ve been here. Lovely. 🙂
Was the art exhibit available?
It was! We walked and walked, my mom bought a necklace, and I picked up a card for some ceramicists who might be able to solve a decorating problem I’ve been working on for a few years (something new to cover our doorbell apparatus). We wore ourselves out and are sitting around now doing sudoku puzzles.
A beautiful sunny day here, I think I’ll accompany the supermarket shopping with Annick Goutal’s Chèvrefeuille, it’s light and summery.
How lovely to see a mention of Chèvrefeuille, it is so perfect.
Profumum Roma Olibanum
I wore it to yoga today – I was afraid it was going to be overwhelming to my neighbors, but it’s settled down nicely
Great choice, I often wear incense to yoga.
Beautiful incense! You smell wonderful!
I’m in Comme des Garcons Grace. I would call this one easy-to-wear, but her style choices aren’t noticeably aligned with the Dude’s. I’m not much of a rose collector, but I often think if I buy another rose, this one will be the one. It took me quite a while to find one I really enjoyed.
I’ve never seen The Big Lebowski, and I hope to correct that very soon! Maybe this weekend…
I think it’s a love it or hate it movie.
In the rather undude-like Bellodgia but it is from a very big bottle 240ml I think so there is that connection with the CP
That’s a huge bottle!
It is supposed to last me a lifetime 🙂 it’s a vintage bottle, splash and it really smells amazing, I still like the modern one (the carnation effect is there but not as pronouced and the drydown is different), my brother gave it to me as a birthday present a few years ago.
Such a nice present! Your brother is really pretty great!
I only saw the movie once, and did not like its depiction of woman. I did like its depiction of a kind of man we all knew but had not seen on screen, and the acting was terrific. Maybe I missed the point.
I suspect that the real Jeff Bridges is not a Dude. No one is as good at anything as he is at acting without working hard and I doubt any survives as long as Bridges has in Hollywood without ambition.
The Dude of my vague memory would not bother with fragrance. He, would however, love Hawaii so I am wearing Kai oil. It is also my idea of an “easy” fragrance, even though I am sure it is a quite difficult scent to achieve.
It totally fails the Bechdel test, too. Day of the Dude, indeed.
Duderinos!
I am wearing Vetiver Extraordinaire.
At work things were kinda stressful. But now its weekend and I promised myself to take it easy!
I am not sure if the dude buys / wears perfume, but if he did I bet he would not mind a vetiver.
Though I can also picture him grabbing Bunny’s or Maude’s perfume bottle and use it to fend off intruders or something like that ?.
Hope your weekend is relaxing Jiji!
This has been a week full of bad news and stress and I can’t fathom relaxing.. alas. I’m wearing The Tiger’s Nest because I want to snarl and claw at everything.
Oh poor you! Get your aggressions out, perhaps it will help.
Sorry to hear that this week has sucked.
I’m sorry for your stinko week. I hope things get better.
Sending hugs your way and gentle healing vibes for your beautiful Dusty.
I’m in Rose & Cuir today. I’ll admit I’ve never seen The Big Lebowski so any possible tenuous connection it’s purely circumstance. Maybe I’m susceptible to marketing, but it does remind me of it huge open sky.
Rose & Cuir is an odd one for me. Some days I really enjoy it, other days I find it too overwhelming.
And I realize I still have a sample of it to try that hajusuuri sent me a couple months ago! I already put on a perfume tonight, but maybe I’ll remember to try it this weekend.
Count me in the group of those who’ve not seen The Big Lebowski, so I wasn’t quite sure of the gist of this cp. I was going to go with one of my patchouli scents, but instead decided on Barbara Bui Le Parfum. A quiet, simple, easygoing fragrance that lies close to the skin, its soft and warm sweet amber is a comforting hug on a cold, windy but sunny day, and the incense note puts me in an Om frame of mind.
Speaking of movies, our spring classic film series, Screwball Comedies, began last night with the 1936 film, My Man Godfrey, starring William Powell and Carole Lombard. They just don’t make them like this anymore; delightfully quick-witted and zany yet with a serious sociological undercurrent, it’s extremely well-acted and surprisingly relevant to issues we face today. I highly recommend ?
Happy weekend to all!
Ah I love that one.
What else is on the schedule?
Films rom the 30’s and 40’s and lots of Cary Grant – my fave!
EASY LIVING (1937)
THE AWFUL TRUTH (1937)
NOTHING SACRED (1937)
BRINGING UP BABY (1938)
MIDNIGHT (1939)
IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934)
HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940)
MY FAVORITE WIFE (1940)
THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940)
THE LADY EVE (1941)
THE PALM BEACH STORY (1942)
We always get a brief documentary or two exploring some aspect of the film as well as additional insight from our very knowledgeable program host. By the end of each series, I feel like I’ve taken a college-level course in film. I ❤️ my library!
Robin, I just read the last few days’ posts and want to offer my deepest condolences on the loss of your dad. You were lucky to have him for so many years but there is never a good time to say goodbye. I hope that warm memories will comfort your heart.
A belated thank you Laila!
Have never seen the Big Lebowski (heresy!) but the gist of the CP seems to be take it easy and don’t stress. Had a productive last day of the work week, and look forward to putting on a big spritz of Victorinox Snowflower in a few minutes. It smells like a glamorous ginger ale.
That’s exactly the gist.
I wore Rien, coolest perfume name and just something a dude would answer when questioned about wearing a perfume Bomb.
Spent the day in Gent to visit the wonderful Van Eyk exhibition. I enjoyed myself thoroughly!
You smell great, glad you had a fun day!
I tried Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose edp today and it was awful. No rose, no lavender, just a big stinking grapefruit on me. Hideous.
It’s really vile, isn’t it. The original is still my favourite, but I also enjoy the EDT, the Florale and the Intense.
I don’t remember grapefruit, just an awful smell.
You both are making me laugh at your description! It must really be bad!
A good night’s sleep is an easy way to feel chill! I’m also part of the contingent who have not seen “The Big Lebowski”. It seems that I am in good company.
SOTD = SSS Incense Pure EdP, from my travel spray. This is my latest perfume crush. It is also incredibly calming. So very good.
Incense Pure is so wonderful, and potent too. You really get your money’s worth.
I’m glad I took a chance and blind bought the travel spray. I’m now giving the 15mL bottle a serious look.
Oh, before I forget, I am feeling much better today! Thanks for asking.
Glad you were able to sleep well last night. Hope it’s a great weekend!
Today’s rain is supposed to be gone tomorrow, so it’s a good start! ☔
Did you buy incense pure since the new owner has taken over? I ordered a sample in 2017 and I really loved it, but I haven’t revisited it since…
I’ve just had such a hard time being able to post this week with work craziness and a couple other things. I’ve had to read comments the next morning. But I’m in an easy to love perfume today, Infusion d’Iris Absolu. So glad it’s the weekend!
Now maybe you can relax?
I sure hope so. I went out tonight to dinner with my friend, so it was a good start. However, I’m in Seattle and the coronavirus is making things very strange and many people on edge here.
The Dude abides! Not sure which fragrance would be suitable–maybe Passage d’Enfer, since it’s a no-brainer for me.
It sounds like a no-brainer perfume is perfect for today’s CP.
Went with Farmacia etc. Vaniglia del Madagascar for the soothing properties it has for me. 🙂
We both went for soothing perfumes today, didn’t we?
It’s been that kind of week, hasn’t it?
Hoping everyone has as good a weekend as possible. 🙂
Take care. 🙂
Zen-ing out in Maison Violet Tanagra.
