Hump Day, Darwin Day and Lincoln’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
For me, a repeat of yesterday, and the day before, and likely tomorrow: still on vacation, (still behind on reading comments), still in Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess.
Reminder: 2/14 we're celebrating Valentine's Day. Wear the perfume you are most smitten with at the moment, or, wear a perfume given to you by a significant other.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

You are very early today Robin! You must be in a different time zone.
My SOTD is Carnal Flower. My CF body oil arrived yesterday. It is stunningly beautiful and the bottle reminds me a little of Aladdins lamp. Mingled with this is the scent of Œillet Mignardise as I keep several of those soaps with my clothes.
Yes, an hour difference, and also the sun is bright and wakes us up early!
How lovely to have the body oil, you must smell fantastic.
I only used very little, but the scent is very, very close to the edp (that I’m also wearing).
I’m looking forward to using it on my hair this summer.
That sounds perfect.
Carnal Flower body oil! Sounds wonderful.
It is. I hesitated a long time between the oil and the butter, but chose the oil in the end as it seemed the more versatile option.
Oh how I wish one could find those soaps easily (and at reasonable price) in the U.S.
They are not that easy to find in Europe either. The others are much more available.
I actually do not use them as a skin soap, I find them a tad too drying, but they work wonders with my woollen cardigans.
CF body oil sounds good. I like CF the perfume but can’t wear it – a little heavy for me
The oil wears slightly closer to the skin, but it still packs quite a punch. I don’t find CF heavy at all, but it does have a considerable presence.
You smell lovely and I think you just convinced me to acquire this.
I like and wear the perfume but I could do with something a bit closer to skin, a bit less presence.
I have had the POAL body oil for a few years now and enjoy it a lot (I don’t use it all over and so it lasts and lasts).
I can only recommend it, it is just stunning.
Carnal Flower body oil? Oh, that must be wonderful! I always associate CF with Tama.
It is wonderful! And very much worth the price.
The oil sounds so good! Enjoy!
Thanks I’m enjoying it already.
Oooh yay you made a choice….and the oil won. Congrats ?. That bottle looks stunning and I bet you smell stunning too!
Yes, in the end I looked up the ingredients of both the oil and the butter and the oil contains far more nourishing ingredients, plus I can use it in my hair.
Soft and beautiful picture, Robin!
Wearing Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar. I keep forgetting about this beauty in my collection.
Cold and windy, but at least a sunny day. Coffee and more coffee with drops of rose water. Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Some day I will snag a bottle of Phi Une Rose! You smell lovely. I just had coffee with nutmeg, quite nice.
Coffee with nutmeg sounds really good!
The other day we had shot of espresso poured over nutmeg ice cream, that was amazing.
I need to try that asap!
Smelling beautiful! Rosewater in coffee sounds interesting. I have chocolate & rose tea by tea forte I’m enjoying.
Thank you! As a coffee lover I usually try to add a touch of flavor to my cup to make it tastier and more enjoyable.
Your chocolate and rose tea sounds delish!
Like Robin, eventually I will get a bottle of this one.
It is indeed full bottle worthy!
??
??
So nice to see blue skies today for a change! ???
Very uplifting! Now the temps will drop drastically Friday and Saturday! Patience!
If the sun is out, I won’t care about the cold!
Good morning y’all!
Headed to the dentist today, so I went for a soft skin scent that won’t knock the dentist out…. Clinique Cocoa and Cashmere. I really like this line of scents!
Hope it is quick and painless Jada!
Hmm.. new to me. Like the idea of Cocoa & Cashmere, however. Good luck!
C and C is in my regular rotation and is such an easy scent that never disappoints. You smell lovely!
I adore flamingos! Amazing creatures.
SOTD: Coromandel
This scent is exquisite. Mysterious, comforting and worthy of a full bottle, one day.
Grateful there’s no rain today and maybe even some sun? Miss the sun!
I will have to remember Coromandel for later this week. You smell fantastic.
Oh you smell great. I’m hoarding my decant on that one a bit…
How did the haircut and color work out?
Really well! A humble salon esthetically but the stylist did a very good job on the highlights and also the cut. He really ‘got’ my hair and the price was really good for NYC standards. We also had quite a few laughs as he shared his perspective of US politics as a Russian. The guy was hilarious.
Thank you for asking!
Do you share your place. You had me at the price for NYC
Will send
You smell amazing
Glad that the new cut & color came out well!
Me too! Thanks 🙂
Wearing the romantically named French Kiss from Guerlain which is also personally romantic since it’s what I wore on my first date with my husband (although our first date wasn’t in Feb…)
???
Lovely! ?
I have never heard of that one – what are the notes?
It’s a fluffy cosmetic-y type scent. Like a lipstick flavored macaron.
?
That sounds like a grand idea for a theme “favorite first date scents”.
SOTD is Lush Jungle Body Spray. It really smells like a tropical forest. I am not getting any vetiver and only a little ylang. The predominant note is probably cypress, because I definitely can smell some kind of coniferous tree.
Oh, that sounds fantastic…love ylang, love cypress.
While rummaging earlier, I dug out some Guerlains I ahven’t worn in ages. Today I am in Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours, which is in the Jicky/ lavender and tonka with a touch of what I think is real sandalwood. Very nice.
I like Lavande Velours. I was gifted with a mini, years ago, by a very kind NST’er.
Hmmm, you smell great! I wore that last night. I don’t get much in the way of tonka, though. Which is why I like it, lol. I get mostly lavender and iris/violet.
Probably did have real sandalwood! Now, no way.
Hello all!
I’m in the incomparable Une Rose today. Nothing else to distract but the most beautiful lush rose.
Incomparable it is!?
ciao ciao!
I am commando at the moment put will report back with my SOTD later..
Just wanted to say the sun is out. After these rainy and cloudy days its such a mood lifter.
Making vanilla tea a friend picked up for me in Mauritius.
The sunshine makes such a big difference always
SOTD is obviously Shalimar ODV!!!
I smell valentines-lover ready!
Is your husband feeling better?
Mostly!
When Mr L is sick its like have a 3rd child.
Not joking
Aren’t most men like that when they’re sick? 😉
Mr. yasmina is like that too. I, on the other hand, am the model sick person who doesn’t bother anyone, as I like to remind him once he feels a little better. I also remind him that I am not his mother.
Congratulations on your new bottle! You smell so good!
Getting together with a friend after my counseling appointment. I am debating on either no 22, Coromandel or vintage BaV. I have an hour to decide.
I vote for Coromandel
I’m with yasmina
I’m in AdV Oeillet Bengale again. I’m also sitting in a plane for the fifth time in 4 days. No fun.
Robin’s mention of Theorema as one of the perfumes she would rescue in the apocalypse intrigued me so much I ordered a mini. I also got sample of Bois des Iles so I can try it for a bit before deciding if I should get that for my bday next month instead of a BUB of Coromandel.
So there will be lots of new stuff for me to sniff when I’m finally back home Friday
Safe travels!
Thanks! I just landed in DC and the weather is great
Enjoy! You’re getting snow at home tomorrow.
I escaped just in time. Evil laugh.
Lovely perfume.
?
Well, now I feel like I should clarify that unlike Diorissimo, I would not categorically state that Theorema is genius, and certainly it is not in the top 10 all time genius perfumes. But it is more cheerful than many genius perfumes 🙂
I would take cheerful over genius any day 🙂 I will report back when it arrives.
tough choice! I had a small sample of Coromandel and have a decant of BdE…not sure what I’d buy. Good luck!
I had a tough time deciding too at the Duty Free last summer and while Coromandel won out, it really was very close.
Jasmine overdose: Olene with a very Olene-y jasmine tea I brought back from China
That sounds like a wonderful combination. Olène is lovely.
Yum all around!
That sounds marvelous!
I’m in Assam of India today. I keep a sample in my desk at work, luckily, because missed putting on fragrance today, since I was waiting for a call from the vet’s office.
Perfect!
One of my cats died today. I had her for 9 years. Her name was Lily. After going to the vet Saturday she was not doing well, so I arranged to do a drop-in with her this afternoon. While in my car, driving to the vet, I heard a gurgling sound and she didn’t move again. I have 4 other cats, but each one is special. I will miss Lily so much.
Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss, PriscillaE. I love the name Lily, a special name for a special cat.
Oh no, I am very sorry for your loss. So sudden…
sending hugs!
How awful to have it happen on the way to the vet! I’m so sorry. It’s very sad.
I am so sorry. 🙁 Big hugs to you.
I am so sorry to read this. I am sure she was well loved. hugs to you.
That’s a terrible thing to happen PriscillaE. I’m so sorry.
That’s heartbreaking. My sympathies on your poor kitty. ?
I’m very sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry about your kitty. Sending you hugs.
So sorry. Poor kitty.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty cat. ((HUGS)) to you.
So sorry about the loss of your cat.
So sorry about Lily. You did all you could as you took her to the vet. Yes, they are all special. I lost my beloved Schnooky on Dec 30 and miss her everyday.
Belated condolences, PriscillaE, that is really tough.
Jambo!
No foot surgery needed! Whew, what a relief. Just wear my air boot for four more weeks.
One of our perfect days in Africa was the thousands and thousands of flamingos ? at Ngorongoro crater. I could see the shimmer of pink from miles away. Breathtaking.
A touch of vetiver and golden vanilla post shower, me thinks.
Great news!
yes, am so grateful for no surgery. My sister said she would come out to be with me if needed, but I would rather we spend our time doing something else when foot all healed.
That is really good news. And what a great memory to have.
Jambo bwana! Hakuna matata!
I did not realize you were in Tanzania. How totally wonderful.
Yes, msabu. Every day was wonderful.
Best news ever!
Yay for no surgery!
Great news!
Yay!
Hurray!
Excellent news!
Wow. 7:40 AM in my neck of the woods, and 40+ comments already. We fumies are restless today!
I am testing Anthologie de Grandes Cru Ambre Stone de Patelier–its pretty awesome so far.
First article in my news feed this AM was about Erykah Badu and her planned vagina-scented incense (apparently Paltrow has done a candle????). It was nice to get a story that was on something other than the primaries… but golly!!
Don’t take my word for it: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/feb/12/erykah-badu-gwyneth-paltrow-vagina-scent-perfume-incense?utm_term=RWRpdG9yaWFsX0d1YXJkaWFuVG9kYXlVUy0yMDAyMTI%3D&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUS&CMP=GTUS_email
I just can’t even… As a friend of mine and I often say, I can’t see because my eyes have rolled out of my head and out the front door and all the way down the street….
Perfect under the circumstances!
Yes because every woman wants her scent to remind dates of another woman’s sex organ.
Also, so very work appropriate.
Well that’s something. It’s interesting that its not like a generic vagina scent but a highly specific one. In between this and the new Tom Ford we got all bases covered
? The fragrance industry seems to be quite efficient.
Soon there will be a Mustang Ranch variety sampler, just in case…ugh.
Oh God! What’s next?
Under the circumstances, that IS a serious question!
Don’t even want to go there!
Acqua in bocca…
È troppo tardi.
I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. NSTers are very witty. I have absolutely nothing to add that has not already been said!
So witty!!
Freud must be having a field day somewhere…
If you’re taking antibiotics can you still smell it??
?
Vagina and Cigarette, sounds fabulous…….said no one ever.
Hahahahahaha…. and me just chortling about the drydown!
Thanks for the link. My favorite quote: “It’s really association and marketing, frankly. The market for celebrity fragrance has been plummeting. Nobody wants to buy celebrity fragrance any more – so the only way they can do this now is to create some kind of sensation. ” 😀
Haha! My favorite was:
Have you ever been asked to recreate someone’s vagina scent?
We haven’t been asked for that, no.
Haha.Yeah,I had a good chuckle over that news…oy
Mine was, “But is the smell of a vagina really strong enough to recreate?” And then I was shocked to see that the interviewer was a woman.
Wearing PDN Vanille Tonka. Incense and Creamy Vanilla contesting with each other.
Does this mean that some of the “Why is that person famous” celebs will have to find actual jobs? No. Of course not, they will still get paid to carry purses, and show up at “events.”
Yeah, sorry. I figured since I did could not bring myself to do a blurb about Gwyneth I would not do a blurb about Erykah.
So apparently that is our editorial policy, you’re welcome 😉
A well thought out and sensible policy, given the content in question!
So many thoughts about this scent, which I will keep to myself! One person’s fantasy scent is another’s nightmare, n’est-ce pas? ?
Ugh just read about the candle..so tacky and stupid. And of course, it sold out. Ya know the movie, Idiocracy? We are living it it, folks.
That’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard. Shouldn’t she be singing instead of making people smell like a crotch? I have too much time on my hands these days, but generally come up with ideas to make people smell better, not worse. What is with these celebrities and their obsession with sex and body parts? It’s like teenagers who found a Playboy for the first time.
Just. EW! All I can think of now are the lyrics to Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare”.
Robin, Thank You SO Much for avoiding those “products”.
?
I hope no one tries to be clever next week and wear it as P-adjacent to get partial credit for next week’s community project ???
I am wearing Santa Maria Novella Colonia Russa layered on top of SMN Fresia body lotion, and drinking cup of jasmine green tea.
Just had to look that one up. Sounds really good.
Seems to be the appropriate week to wear Kenzo Amour at least once.
Starting to peruse photos of haircuts. I’m bored. My hair is fine, so I have to keep it relatively short. It’s been a blunt chin-length cut for a few years. Time to play…
Great scent for this week! You smell wonderful!
I’m bored with my hair too. It’s been long all my life. I’m contemplating a Deva bob cut. Not sure if I’m brave enough but I also want to try something new
I’ve always been relatively brave on hair, because my attitude is “it grows!”
Good luck finding a new style!
Cacharel Noa today. I’ve had a strange week of regret after spraying each morning but not today, completely happy and content with my fragrance choice.
Robin, sorry to miss the weekend anniversary celebration. Congratulations and thank you for creating such a wonderful community! I appreciate you and this special group!
Don’t you hate that! I usually will scrub it and add another choice
Thank you Nightingale!
Oh, the “wrong perfume blues” are annoying, like an itch you can’t scratch.
I’m in PdN New York Intense, trying to push back at the cold, overcast weather.
My little white fluffster shredded a paper plate in the kitchen just now. We’ve had a lot of rain in the past couple of days, so it’s been hard to meet her exercise needs. I think I need to put my raincoat on and take her for a long walk!
Enjoy your walk!
We got rained on, but only a little!
You have a fluffster? Pomeranian?
I have a Jack Russell/poodle/?? mix. She’s a rescue, so not really sure of her exact breed, but she has a lot of energy!
https://instagram.com/p/B7_tlSYhI95/
OOF! *squish* she’s precious!
She is adorable!!!
her zoomies!!! too sweet!
Scent twins! ?
Hey, twin!
Rainy weather here as well. I’ve had a couple of days of appointments and blah things to do, so had to stick rigorously to work appropriate perfumes. I think my grab-in-an-apocalypse perfumes would be Theo Fennell and PR La Nuit, BUT the bottles that are being drained are Caleche Eau Delicate and FM LPdT, which makes me feel like a woman to be reckoned with. Which perhaps is a reflection of my male dominated work environment. Sad.
At least you do still smell good while being a woman to be reckoned with!
Morning, smelly friends! Just popping in to say hi, and note that I am wearing JHAG’s Into the Void. It reminds me a lot of some of the scents from the Zoologist line, because of the underlying, furry musk. Not sure about this – it’s coming off as a bit too skanky for me.
Happy Hump Day, all.
smelly friends! hahahahaha! that’s perfect 😀 hope your Wednesday brought you some smiles.
SOTD is L’ Artisan’s Mure et Musc layered over the Mure et Musc body oil and a spritz of L’A,s (vintage) Vanille.
My current perfume note love affair (and has been since the summer) is citrus, especially all-things-orange.
I’m in a sample of Perris Monte Carlo Mandarino di Sicilia, which I was saving for warmer weather, but craved it today. It smells like a freshly peeled mandarin with all the bitter and green bits of the rind in there. Really like this one!
Oooh, I must try that one. I love orange scents. Any other good ones to suggest?
I’m also looking for recommendations! I also really like TF Mandarino di Amalfi which is a bit more watery, but also very juicy and realistic smelling, and lasts fairly well for the genre. I may hunt down a decant of that one.
Have you tried the Nicolai Nerolis? They both smell very orange-y to me.
I guess the Atelier oranges are usually recommended, but I don’t love them, myself.
No I haven’t, but thanks. Azemour les Oranges is my favorite! And Baum du Doge, but it’s also got a lot of spice, like an orange pomander.
Have you tried Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca? I got a decant of that one from a NSTer and I love it.
I haven’t, I don’t think. I have tried the AA Mandarin Basilic which was nice, too.
I’m up late after staying awake until 2:30 to finish the French series on Netflix “Bonfire of Destiny.” I recommend it highly! It’s based on a real event, a terrible fire at a charity bazaar in Paris in the 1890’s. Many women were killed, both aristocrats and maids. The series follows the fates of three women who survived. It’s very complex but fascinating. Most of all, it’s so beautiful! The homes, gardens, clothes, children, streets of Paris, ooh la la! Like an extended Manet painting! Lots of social commentary too.
No perfume yet but lingering Santal de Mysore (SL) from last night.
PS You can get a dubbed version but it’s awful. Better to watch it in French with subtitles.
Elisa P also mentioned this series…
I also watched it in like 3 sittings and ruined some mornings because if it, lol.
That 1st episode with the fire, though. I had to take a break mid watch. But I also really enjoyed it and thought it was visually beautiful.
I think I compared it to a cross between Les Mis and the film The Favourite.
The fire scenes were very frightening as were those crazy husbands! Ew! But such sweet and beautiful children, true romance, and heroism, along with surprising twists.
This series sounds like my cup of tea! Will seek it out this weekend.??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maud_Lewis
Hi Calypso. I was thinking of you the other day as I watched a DVD called “Maudie” about the artist Maude Lewis. The film starred Sally Hawkins and she was wonderful in it. I think you wouldlike it.
I am looking forward to seeing the latest “Emma” with Eleanor Catton’s screenplay.
I will watch Bonfire of Destiny now. Thanks
Good to know about. I’m definitely going to the new Emma, too!
I grew up in Nova Scotia so am familiar with Maud Lewis and her art. Some of my friend’s parents had many of her little paintings in their houses. If you ever visit the province you can see her tiny house restored as an exhibit at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
https://artgalleryofnovascotia.ca/blog/maud-lewis-house-restoration
So cute. Next time on a New England cruise…not anytime soon though.
Beautiful photo!
SL Un Bois Vanille today. It’s my Friday, and I’m sooo happy!! Happy Hump Day to all! ?
Did your snow melt?
Happy Friday, Deva!
Commando but enjoying my new favorite choco bar, Cherry Tango by Ghiradelli. Holy grail good. There needs to be a perfume of this lol.
A cherry and almond combo never fails. A have a couple of Cherry Tango bars on my desk. They are really good!
Lol back up bottles and back up bars:). Yes plz haha.
Oh that does sound yummy!
One of my current favorite chocolate bars has dried blueberries in it. Yummy! Dried cherries sound good, too! ?
Yum. Will seek that out.
Etro Heliotrope! After recently wearing it as my SOTD after a loooong hiatus, can’t believe I forgot how lovely it is!
Happy Wednesday friends.
I.Am.Tired.
XO
Hang in there Johano! It’s almost your weekend!
Thanks my friend!Will do!
Hope your week is going OK?
XX
Uneventful, just the way I like it,?
Haha.Well I hope you feel better asap!??
You smell lovely, I love Etro Heliotrope.
Hope you will rest well.
Thank you Aurora, quick looksy on NST then off to bed!??
You smell great! Have a nice sleeping and resting time!
Thanks my friend!Hope your week is great so far!xox
You can’t get tired, you have so much reading to do 😉
Haha! You know it!!Cannot wait for the weekend, want to finish Find me at least!!
Happy Wednesday!?✌?
? ?
Pleasant dreams! ?
In No 5 vintage extrait on my wrists, after having been in the inoffensive Jil Sander Sun, I don’t indulge often in No 5, but it really is so enjoyable when I do feel like it.
I love No. 5 but last time I wore it, a younger guy said to me, “You smell like baby powder or I feel like I am at my grandma’s house and she’s gunna make me cookies..which actually I kinda like, so ya it’s kinda hot”. LOL.
I think I would have considered it a compliment as well 🙂
Any other thoughts on Sun besides inoffensive? I’ve only smelled no.4 and am curious about others from the brand.
It’s my library scent at the moment. The scent is subtle, it recalls a sunscreen/cosmetic scent quite enjoyable actually, oh and it smells great on my scarf where it lingers, I use 4 sprays which is a lot for me. And it’s been around a long time. I too only knew No 4 which I enjoy very much.
Lilyjo, I can make you a sample of Sun and send it your way if you are curious!
A sunscreen-type perfume sounds like a great antidote to yucky winter weather, FWIW.
Yes, it’s perfect in winter, another which I favor is Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum, do you know it? I like it quite a bit better than Guerlain Terracotta.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme
Continuing rose week with one of my first Atelier Cologne bottles (heh, I got 5 in one shopping spree). Woudy spicy rose patchouli ❣️
https://www.instagram.com/p/B8eggh0BE06/?igshid=6vdml84j1rxt
Commuting Woes – my fragrant scent bubble today was rudely popped by a champion farter. Yes, I know it’s a normal bodily function but I don’t have to like it ?.
5 in one spree! What were the other’s?
Bois Blonde, Vetiver Fatale and 2x Sous Le Toit de Paris
You need Carnal Flower in a travel spray for defense.
I had to bring out the White Flower oil, smear a few drops into a tissue and breathe through it for a minute…got some of it around my nostril (it’s fine) or I would have had to breathe through that tissue for much longer!
Ugh. Public transit can be such a trial.
You got it!
That’s exactly what I tell my ten year old when he shamelessly farts in MY space!
LOL ?
Your commuting woes today gave me a chuckle!
Chuckling would not have been good as I could have swallowed some of the foul smell. ?
I spent a happy evening yesterday fossicking through tbe samples from Scentspirit and went to bed very fragrant, with about eight different perfumes dabbed all over my arms. Work is not the place for testing for me, so this morning I’ll be wearing Chamade.
I love reeking of more than ten scents at once.
Chamade is something else entirely, one of my favourite Guerlains.
Hi Gaynor
How is your new job? I hope it is going really well
Did anything really catch your fancy?
Fils de Dieu, my most worn scent, because it fits every weather and mood.
I’m trying to comment every day, but I need to comment first, then read comments, else I never get to commenting. I love that teapot from yesterday!
I’m wearing Amouage’s Imitation Woman from a sample. I hear nothing about this one but I find it strangely compelling. I can’t figure out if I like it or don’t like it, but I keep sniffing.
Can anyone recommend sample/decant sized sprayers? I’d like to get some 2, 5, and 10 ml. But I don’t want to send wonky leaky sprayers to people when sharing/splitting. I don’t even know if there are brands or if one just plays the Amazon third-party lottery.
Have a lovely-smelling day!
https://boisdejasmin.com/2013/06/making-fragrance-decants-and-samples-in-pictures.html
This has some suggestions about where to buy sample vials.
I also have to comment first and read later. You have a twin!
I have been buying Elfenstall from Amazon
Best Bottles and Sksbottles are both good. Best Bottles has a $50 minimum.
I came home from work sick. So now just resting. Of course the sun is finally out today and I’m missing it!
Thanks to KellyC I have a dab of L’Heure Bleue extrait. This is lovely. Perfect for the classic phase I’m currently in.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon! ?
Poor Lillyjo, hope you get well soon.
LHB is such a stunner, I hope it helps speed up your recovery!
Hope you feel better soon!
Aw. that sucks! Feel better soon lillyjo, and keep the comfort perfumes close by if they don’t bother you.
Hope you feel better soon! Glad you got some sun.? We we’re back to overcast today.
? just we’re, not we we’re
Yikes! I hope you feel better soon.
Hope you are feeling better, lillyjo. I only have L’HB in the perfume, I bet the extrait is fantastic!
Hi NST! Long time no comment but I really enjoyed reading the comments on the 15 year anniversary post. I started reading NST and getting into perfume around 2012/2013. I hadn’t really realized how long it’s been until I did the math!
Back then I decided to buy myself a perfume for my 25th birthday (Bottega Veneta). Today I turn 32 and am wearing this year’s gift to myself, Azemour les Orangers!
Happy Birthday!
Enjoy your FB purchase..
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your gift! I still need to try that one.
Happy Birthday! ???. You smell wonderful!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Azemours is a great scent!
Happy Scented Birthday sterling925! ???
Happy birthday!?
Happy birthday and welcome back!
My mother died three weeks ago after a very short illness. She was such a wonderful friend and huge presence in my life that for the first three days afterwards I found my ears pricking up at the hourly radio news broadcasts…in my muddled state my brain kept tricking me into thinking that her death must have made the news (instead, it was Kobe Byrant). It is so odd to feel orphaned at 56.
The day after tomorrow my son and only child will pack his bags and leave home. He is so excited and I am happy for him, of course.
I seem to have lost my sense of smell but I find a great deal of solace in my walks around the old graveyard and out with the dogs. I am so, so sad.
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom Kanuka!I know the feeling,it feels so fresh still, even almost 4 years after my Mom passed away.Sending hugs!
Hang in there,it does get “slightly” better.
XX
Dear Kanuka, I’m so sorry. Just so very sorry.
I’m so very, very sorry as well. I had missed you on here, but now I know why. Hugs from the Netherlands!
Oh Kanuka, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know of what you speak – tomorrow marks the fifth anniversary of my parents’ funerals – they died six weeks apart and were buried at the same time. To lose a parent is a great, great loss, and when they’re both gone it can feel like you’re set adrift and yes, orphaned. Of course the departure of your son must feel bittersweet following so closely on the heels of your mother’s death.
I’m glad that you are finding moments of solace and following your heart out into nature. I missed seeing you here, and I do hope you’ll stay with us as the spirit moves you – perfumed or not. Big hug and much love to you…
I have really missed you these last few weeks and was hoping that nothing was amiss. I am so sorry for what you are going through–all sorts of anchors coming undone at once. Really sad. On top of your local friends and family, you have us–all over the world–who are concerned about you and wish we were closer to make you a bowl of good soup, to set at your table with a cold glass of wine, for when you come in from your walks.
Kanaka, my heart goes out to you. It is the hardest thing, to lose a parent. My mom has been gone for three years, my dad for nearly one. It takes a lot of time, tincture of time as my mom used to say, but it will slowly get better. Hugs to you, dear.
So sorry Kanuka, will be thinking of you, hugs. In time you will remember only the good times spent together.
I am so, so sorry to hear about your mother’s loss Kanuka. I lost my father almost 2 years ago and I understand the feeling very well, like many of us here. I am sending you peace, love and hugs. I have you in my thoughts and prayers.
My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother, Kanuka, and the little loss of your son moving away. I hope you feel better soon.
I noticed your absence and am sorry to hear of your loss. My heartfelt condolences to you. And becoming an empty nester too, that’s a lot to handle at once. Being outside with my dog always cheers me up, I hope it helps you make your way through your sorrow. Hugs to you across the Pacific.
So it sounds like you are dealing with a sort of loss on both sides, because even when you are happy for your son, you will miss him.
My heartfelt sympathy.
If you are the type who feels comforted by reading those describing similar experiences, try Joan Didion’s Year of Magical Thinking.
Condolences and wishing you peace, Kanuka.
Condolences, Kanuka. Pets are a great comfort when we go through loss and grief.
So very sorry to hear about your mother’s passing, Kanuka. It isn’t weird at all to feel orphaned, no matter your age. My deepest sympathies.
I’m so sorry Kanuka. Keeping you in my thoughts.
Oh no, I too noticed your absence. I’m so sorry. Another friend said when her mother died she wondered why the entire world didn’t just grind to a halt because of how devastated she felt. I am reminded to treasure my mother even despite her diminished state. But is your loss of smell connected to this? That’s also concerning.
I’m so sorry Kanuka. That’s a lot to bear at once and a huge void. Sending you hugs xo
I am so so sorry Kanuka.
My deepest condolences Kanuka.
Kanika, I’m so very sorry to hear about your Mom.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Kanuka. The unexpected ones feel the worst but I suppose even the expected ones that linger can be just as painful. When my mom passed away a little over six months ago, being orphaned was one of the things that popped into my head as well! I hope your memories of her help you through this difficult time.
I’m very sorry for your loss. Moms are precious. May your memories of her bring you comfort.
I am so sorry, Kanuka. Please visit at this site even if your enthusiasm for perfume wanes. I often just drop in to read everyone’s kind comments and reading about your walks is often a high point of my day. We missed you while you were gone. Hugs.
I’m so very sorry for your loss, Kanuka.
Oh Kanuka, I am so terribly sorry. I wish I had some magic helpful words but I don’t.
Is your son going far?
Fighting a headache since yesterday and shoulder pain for a week now. Wearing a bit of Terry de Gunzburg Ombre Mercure to soothe myself.
That’s alot of pain at once!, I hope you get some relief.
Oh no, do you have a rotator cuff problem? Best of luck with that. I love Ombré Mercury, but have to be in just the right mood for it.
No, I have intense stress and anxiety, which is causing physical pain.
Oh no! You had the shoulder pain around a year ago, didn’t you?
Yes, and this time it’s the other shoulder. It seems that the way my stress/anxiety expresses itself is through shoulder & neck pain.
Shoulder pain is horrible.
Oh no! Sorry that your shoulder pain is back; I hope you get some relief soon.
It seems to be triggered by tax season. :-/
Wearing PDN Vanille Tonka. Incense and Creamy Vanilla contesting with each other.
I had the oddest dream last night. I was with Han Solo, and some unfriendly Wookies were chasing us, so we got into the car from Back To The Future to get away from them. The car flew, but not well, more like the car in Harry Potter that eventually crashes into the Whomping Willow. Then I woke up, so I am wearing the oddest perfume I own–CdG Stephen Jones.
Ha! What a weird dream!
Haha, love it! I dreamed I went to China, and ran into an Italian friend who teaches there. (He really does.) We went sightseeing and were by a huge river with numerous vessels, and suddenly there was a blizzard and we were sliding on the ice and giggling. Somehow I think all this had to do with news coverage of the coronavirus.
Love it! Great dream.
Great dream!
Had beautiful blue skies for part of the day here, but the grey clouds have rolled back in. Ugh. At least it isn’t raining (yet). ?
SOTD = Agent Provocateur EdP. I looked thru my bottle stash and pulled this one out. I was inspired by all the people who have been wearing roses this week… this is a gorgeous dark one on me. ?
The original AP is gorgeous. I think it’s similar to Mad Madame, but less synthetic smelling.
I find that Mad Madame is a much lighter rose perfume on me. I get pink roses with that one. AP is definitely dark red roses to my nose.
? on roses, this being Valentine’s Day week and all…
Since I’m not in the mood for a chocolate fragrance, it makes sense to me.
Is that in the pink bottle?
Yes, it is.
Thanks! That’s a good one, isn’t it!
Ohhh I love a dark rose but haven’t tried that one yet!
Inspired by Koyel, I’m wearing a couple sprays of Fancy Nights. Plus I added a drop of Andy’s Rose Delight oil. Long ago I heard mentioned that Rose plus FN smells something like Coromandel; not sure if this accurate but it’s a pretty good combination anyways.
Hmmmmmm, I’ve never thought of pairing rose with Fancy Nights. Thanks for the tip!
I need to try this combo!
That sounds like a fab combo!
Sa Majeste la Rose today, which is one of my favorite roses! I even resprayed after work!
Had dinner with one of J’s (my hubs) friends from back east. He’s in town on business. Was good to see him. Funny how some people you just pick right up with like old times.
