Tuesday scent of the day 12/31

Posted by Robin on 31 December 2019 235 Comments

It's Tuesday and New Year’s Eve, plus the 7th day of Christmas (swans a swimming) and the 6th day of Kwanzaa. (Plus, quick PSA: the damage poll is coming up on Friday.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m wearing Diptyque Tam Dao layered with Diptyque Philosykos.

Reminder: on 1/3, wear a fragrance to match Classic Blue, Pantone's color of the year for 2020. ("A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Denby Imperial Blue teapot is currently marked down to $77.50 at Denby USA, although it also appears to be out of stock (they do have it in several other colors).

        Hmmm..its hard to explain.
        Maybe someone can chime in?

Its like two different scents: the opening and the dry down.
The opening is sharp and peppery with leather. I get cinnamon even though there is not any listed. The dry down, the animalic side lessens, and its smell left on your skin is like salty heated flesh.

On me, it starts off animalic with (human) body odor. At some point (in < 1 hour), it smells like heated skin without the BO. It’s my favorite of the entire discovery set but there is something in the base that is preventing me from a bottle (of any size) purchase. I have the full sample set except for the newest one. I forgot to whom I offered to lend it to but since I did not hear back from that person, I’m happy to send it to you as long as you commit to sending it back to me or to someone else in the U.S. I designate. I hope to be able to have this set be circulated to 3-4 more people. Please email me if interested.

Happy New Year, ltsg! Thanks for your kind words yesterday about my mom. I think women will start to “dress” again in the 20’s, so femme fatale will be great.

I hope you’re right about women dressing again – comfortable and simple clothes are great, but so few people seem to dress for special occasions.

That’s sadly so true. My mom’s generation dressed up daily. I remember her and her sister buying fabric and, in the 80s making those Knot’s Landing type clothes. I am all for comfort, but I go to lots of musical concerts and these days people just go in jeans and T-shirts. And somehow that just seems sad and conformist to me.

LAdDM is gorgeous! The only things keeping me from a full bottle are the price tag (which, admittedly, isn’t that bad for niche/indie), and the fact that I can’t quite decide between LAdDM and Le Maroc Pour Elle.

Happy 2020, everyone! I’m quite pleased to give this year the boot. ? ? ? ??

I’m both drinking and wearing Love Potion tea, from Cultured Cup. I dumped some of it on the front of my robe, and am actually enjoying it very much. Fragrance profile is caramel, dark chocolate, maple, vanilla and cinnamon. If a perfume with these notes existed, I’d buy it! Any suggestions?

I’ll be testing Tabac Tabou after my shower. Only a dab, as it’s legs and abs day at the gym. I’ll be animalic, but guess I’ll fit in with the other animals who show up there on New Year’s Eve. ?

Y’all be safe tonight if you’re on the roads, and have fun, whatever you choose to do!

I was so touched by all the posts of support yesterday when I mentioned that my poor cat had to be put down. I answered each I think but in case I forgot someone I want to express all my thanks here. Words and hugs really helped, NST is such a caring community.
I am wearing Anais-Anais today, which I wore when I was 16 and am about to start on the cooking with a glass of mulled wine by my side.
Happy, healthy New Year to everybody, so glad 2019 is almost over.

Anaïs Anaïs is an early favourite of mine. It was the first real perfume I bought with my own money. I must have been around 16, 17 as well.
      Best wishes for 2020!

Nappy NYE, everyone! I’ll be staying home this evening and binge-watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I’m always about 18 months behind the latest trend…
I am wearing D600 and it is perfect for this overcast but not too cold day. I have to see the acupuncturist this morning (it’s not his New Year) so I thought it wouldn’t offend. It’s my first appt and I am hoping it will help with reflux issues.

Blue for Friday may be Hiris because of the bottle. I don’t really have anything that smells like that color blue.

Tomorrow I’ll crack open a brand-new bottle for a brand new decade. (Donatella knows how many I have to choose from – gulp!)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2020 is a stunner.
It is morning here and the garden and sky is almost yellow, as if viewed through yellow-tinted ski goggles . I believe it’s from the Australian bushfires, the smoke has blown across the Tasman. The strangest light and the day is not getting any brighter.
It’s my son’s birthday but he is away at the beach …with no phone reception …but we will see him sometime. His last birthday at home as he moves out soon for university.
Wearing Copper and transfixed by the colour outide. So sad for the Australians caught up in the fires in Gippsland.

Even though the fires are 2000km away, and across the sea, we can smell the smoke and it is so gloomy we have got our lights on in the house. The birds are much quieter than usual.

Wow! 2020 – it sounds like it should be some time in the distant future, but we’re here already. Happy New Year to everyone :)
We welcomed in the New Year very quietly last night. We had dinner with friends, there were just a few people, we were home by 11pm. We stayed up till midnight, and realised there were fireworks in the harbour, so we went up to the roof for a glimpse – just a glimpse, there is a very annoying hotel building that is perfectly placed to block fireworks displays. I wore Trayee for the evening and felt very luxurious.
This will be a very lazy day, scented so far with a dab of Au Coeur de Désert. It’s rather nice, but there is something is the base of nearly all of Andy Tauer’s perfumes that I don’t quite like.

Just a quick spritz of Baiser de Russie as I ran out the door for the first showing of A Hidden Life, the latest by Terence Malick. My husband had to bail because he remembered he had lunch plans (I love being able to get refunds on tickets up to show time.).

I called him as I was walking out of the theater… When he asked how it was, I literally started crying and couldn’t speak. Right there in the theater lobby… So many competing emotions flooded up, I was overwhelmed.

All my best wishes to everyone for for a Happy New Year and a blessed 2020.

    Happy New Year’s Eve!??
Had my interview today and I think it went well. Although I interviewed for a similar position both last year and the year before and felt they went well but never got an offer, so who knows? Maybe third times a charm. I wore my fan favorite Vanille Insensee. I’m just about to put lasagna in the oven and we’re trying to decide what movie to watch as a family tonight. Yep, we’re pretty exciting, lol.

Happy New Year to all! 2020 will be an interesting year for me; I’ll be on a no-buy all year so my current collection will get a workout. Tonight I’m wearing Olympic Orchids Amber-Labdanum oil topped with DSH Dark Moon. Amber-labdanum-red wine-chocolate. Yummy.

I’m lounging around the house in Lonestar Memories, which is presenting a weirdly mentholated note that I don’t remember from previous wearings? I might also just be over my birch tar and burning rubber phase entirely for the moment.

I’ve started taking notes on what my partner likes and it is a mystery to me at this point, I think there must be something very specific that they’re reacting. It hadn’t previously been an issue but now that we’re living together I’d really like to figure it out! It’s such a weird pattern, though: Smolderose is out, La Fille de Berlin is in; Bat is out but DSH Chinchilla and SP’s Civette are fine; Hedonist Rose Absolute I had to scrub off immediately but they liked Fort & Manle’s Meraki…

    Further datapoints required, I suppose!

I think scent preference is a really hard thing to pin down, no? I don’t know that I can fully explain why I love certain perfumes and others get on my nerves- even ones with similar note profiles.

I’m sitting quietly with cats on my lap and drinking wine. In the late afternoon I attended a festive gathering at Mom’s place with champagne, decorations, a pianist/singer, cake, and party hats with noisemakers. It makes sense to party in the afternoon like that. Now I’m thinking of making cabbage rolls or Polish golubki in honor of a close friend who died of cancer at this time of year a few years ago. She often made them for the New Year and I have a yearning for them. I have the ingredients but haven’t made them before and it looks a bit daunting. It’s my plan for tomorrow to tackle that big ol’ cabbage. Wearing Tiger’s Nest today, which suits our chilly weather. I still have my Christmas tree up and it’s cozy inside.

Happy New Year! Good luck with the stuffed cabbage. That’s a nice tribute to your friend. I’ve tried making it a few times, with mixed success. The cabbage is best when it’s overcooked, IMO. My bad tries were when the cabbage leaves were too thick and a little tough.
Also, your mother is such an elegant-looking woman! I’m always struck by that when I see your IG posts of her.

I love cabbage rolls; what a lovely tribute to your friend!

My m-i-l makes the ones with regular cabbage and hamburger. She would steam the leaves first to soften before making them.

Happy New Years Eve everyone! I’m wearing about 6 sprays of Iris Silver Mist tonight to celebrate. Kicking 2019 to the curb!

I realized when I looked it up that that should have been Blue Encens. The person who sent it to me had labeled it right. I remembered it wrong.

One way or another I’ve acquired a fair amount of CdG samples and a couple of small decants. There are a few I think are very pretty, and a couple I thought were quite fitting for a “weird” or “oddball” category, but that was the company’s intent.

A little after 10:00 p.m. Eastern (U.S.) time, I dabbed from a sample of Serge Lutens Rahät Loukoum. I think it’s pretty. It’s settled down to a cherry-almond. I read the review, and I can see why it references Turkish Delight. I tried the rose-flavored sort a year or two ago. I’d been curious about Turkish Delight for many, many years, after reading the Narnia series as a tween or young teen.

One way or another, I’ve acquired a number of Serge Lutens samples, also. There are a few I like quite a lot, but I haven’t been able to try very many of the samples yet.

So late! I just got home from work. We got about 5 inches of snow overnight, so all is well with winter.
My sotd was Mirror des Joyaux. I like this more every time I wear it. I’m contemplating getting Mirror des Majesties. Happy New Year to each of you here, and to my friends out there that may be lurking, I hope you are well. ????????
