Monday morning, too soon as always. (It's also International Anti-Corruption Day and Pastry Day.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking an early community project point in Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle.
Reminder: on 12/13, we're doing Scents of the Season, part 2...wear something that smells like baked goods, or has a baked goods accord, or just reminds you of holiday baking. Suggested by thegoddessrena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning Y’all!
Starting out the week in Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao. Smelling cozy and chocolately; I need to wear this one more!
And never hear about that one anymore!
Just finishing up my mini of Tauer Les Annees 25 – really love this, wish I’d gotten a FB before it disappeared. Has anyone tried the new Bis version yet? I see it doesn’t include ginger or oak moss so I wonder if I would enjoy it as much.
I just got a partial bottle of the Bis version (literally today in the mail). Bis is more powdery, has very pronounced violets and musky. I can send you a sample as long as you’re in the US (I think you are)
Thanks so much for the offer but I think I’ll order the mini.
Trying By Kilian Kissing, which has a “sugar candy” accord, close enough? (Hi everyone! Been out of the habit of SOTD posting lately….)
Hi there! 🙂
Hey Elisa, hope you are well!
Vintage Shalimar EDC
Oh my, you smell wonderful!
Thank you.
It is a full bottle gift from a dear friend ???
I’m wearing Youth Dew for the first time in a long while. I always forget how much I love it.
Youth Dew is sooooooo glorious! One of these days I’m gonna try the bath oil…..
Oh, and the YD Bath Oil is fantastic stuff.
Twins, or maybe half-sisters: I’m wearing the bath oil!
Sampling Vani Choc from Hilde Soliani which, so far, is more vanilla and toasted almond on me
Decided that Vani Choc wasn’t doing anything for me so I’m now in Iris Ganache. So yummy
I’m in Eau Premiere again, the only decant I brought with me for the weekend.
I’m getting ready to leave my parents house and make the drive back home. I don’t want to go.? I think this weekend was exactly what my mom and I needed. It’s been a rough fall for both of us. Yesterday we finished frosting Christmas cookies, played dominoes and went through old photos pulling pictures of my gramma out for her memorial next summer. We even managed a few laughs.
Now I am armed with the task of taking said Christmas cookies home and keeping them in the freezer until the bigs get home!
Sounds like a perfect kind of weekend. It’s good to sloooooow down sometimes and do fun things sometimes!
I agree! I could use a weekend like this about once a month. It’s so nice to rest and recharge.
sounds like a wonderful time. I wouldn’t want to drive home, either. Hope you manage to save some cookies for the bigs ?
The weather was horrible!? But we made it safely and the cookies went right from the car to the freezer. I will try to be good.?
Lots of Chanel today..you smell great
Sounds like a great weekend
Thanks ltsg! It was a great weekend.?
What a lovely weekend…can see why you want to stay. Eau Premiere is my favorite No. 5
Eau Premiere is my favorite no. 5 too, when my decant is gone I will definitely be getting a bottle!
So glad, sorry you have to go home.
Thanks Robin.?
Glad you had a nice visit and that you are home safe.
Thanks lillyjo!?
Glad to hear that you, madtownteen and the cookies arrived home safe and sound!
I’m planning to wear perfumes that have favorite baking spices this week, starting with clove in vintage Coco.
Chanel twins!
You smell great
Ohhh, beautiful.
Oh, I like the idea of using spice notes for the CP. Do you mind if I borrow that?
I’m all in on the promotion of spicy perfumes 🙂
Good morning all! Robin, you smell great! I’m still lemming that one?
Have been wearing Winter Palace exclusively on my travels south. I’m determined to use up this decant for two reasons: 1. I’m very enamored with it but will not pay that price for a FB of anything unless it’s from the Fountain of Youth! 2. I don’t want a single molecule to fall victim to evaporation.
Busy day today of laundry and other chores. Will try a short hike later today. This is a gorgeous area and really motivates me to move. Sunny in the high 50’s today! I’m ecstatic! I’m looking forward to hiking some trails around Sedona this week.
Here’s a photo of my current locale for those interested:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B51QyyBpRw_/?igshid=1f9inxj0furn5
Boy what a gorgeous picture. I am so happy for you to be heading out to Sedona (and envious).
Is Winter Palace in your top 5?
I passed through there day before yesterday- I was hustling through Flagstaff because the dreaded “winter mix” was forecast and didn’t want to descend 89A in THAT! It was a Saturday and the traffic in Sedona was nuts. I’ll go back on a weekday.
I’m in Cottonwood for the week, which is equidistance from Sedona and Prescott. I was completely DELIGHTED with the smell up here- I guess it’s a mix of creosote, juniper, and mysterious desert “essence.” Yum!
I wouldn’t say WP is top 5, but probably top 10. Too bad it’s ridiculously priced. ?
The desert scent would be a favorite smell of mine too.
Enjoy it for me.
One thing you might be noticing in the smell mix is jojoba. I spent time in the Arizona desert in the past and there’s a lot of it there, and it’s sublime.
Is jojoba related to yucca?
I really like Winter Palace too but agree with you – FB is unlikely (although those Memo bottles are gorgeous!). It might be a fun challenge to find worthy, more affordable Winter Palace cousins!
Great idea! I wish I had the depth and breadth of knowledge to think of a dupe. Maybe hajusuuri or cazaubon can come up with something..?
Nah, I’ll just mention that Memo Paris perfumes do end up in fragrancenet ??
?? You’re killing me, Smalls!
Just watch fragrancenet! It may turn up.
I feel the same about my Winter Palace decant! Will not buy a FB. It would need to walk the dog, so the laundry and make me look 30 again to be worth the price!
Maybe you could contact them and make some suggestions ?
Gorgeous pic Deva! I know that Memo does 10 ml travel sprays but I don’t see one for Winter Palace.
10ml would be right size, but I’m sure the price would be even more unreasonable ml to $. ?
Beautyhabit sells them. I bought one last year when they had a sale. I think that I paid somewhere between $40 – $50.
Oh man, I want to be a van lifer.
Ha! Well, it’s not all fun and games, but the pros outweigh the cons for me right now. I DO have my eye on another vehicle, though…?
A road train!
I remember that area so well, even though it’s been nearly 30 years since my stay in Arizona.
I love Sedona as well. And Montezuma Castle, Walnut Canyon. A bit further east is Canyon de Chelly. Very, very beautiful.
Good to hear and see that you are back exploring. You must have felt very confined in SD.
I was driving, and rounded a curve in the road and there was SEDONA! So gorgeous, but so many people!! I’m hoping weekdays will be better. I’ve been researching some hikes, and OMG! The VIEWS! I’ll have photos on my IG soon if you want a visual remembrance! You know a place is great when you still have fond memories 30 years later. Canyon de Chelly is on my hit list too.
ND was good for me because I needed a break from the constant driving and exploring I did over the summer. T-Rex was over it, too. We had the luxury of heat and endless hot water, so I’m always grateful for that. But the COLD and WIND!! Good grief! I don’t miss that ?
I need to find my photo book of that time. This was before digital photos, well before digital most things.
I check your instagram very regularly. I particularly love your pictures of TRex. They remind me of my holidays with my little dog. Not quite so agile on rocks but the best companion any traveller could wish for. Dogs are so easy, provided there is food, water, walks and company they are fine.
Aww, thank you! She’s a very good doggo, for the most part. I find I constantly worry about her, though. Is it too hot, too cold? Did she get enough exercise today? If I have to leave her in the van for work or some other reason, I worry about the temperature, is someone is trying to break in or steal the van…sadly, that’s become a problem here in the US. I do have an alarm, but I can’t use it when she’s in the van alone, because if she jumps down from the bed, or otherwise makes the van move incrementally, the alarm goes off. Sometimes, I think it would be better to travel without a dog, but she is such a character and has such a big personality, she makes me laugh out loud on the regular. I think she does enjoy the hiking, meeting new people, and seeing (smelling) new things, though.
I have traveled around that area quite a bit but do not recognize your spot, looks lovely though!
It’s one of the lagoons at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. It’s a very popular spot for migrating birds, and hence, birders. I’ve never heard so many birds tweeting away as I did last night when we went for an evening hike. There must have been thousands!
How cool!
I was wondering how your travels out of South Dakota were going! Sounds like you made it to Arizona just fine.
Made it one piece, but had a few adventures along the way! ?
I’m feeling very out of the NST loop now, hope everything is going well with you and yours✌?
I am wearing Guerlain Herba Fresca today and drinking a cup of Nilgiri Winter Frost Black tea.
I love Herba Fresca even more in the winter weather.
When I smell that one it reminds me of my father. When I use to give him a warm hug and kiss right after he finished shaving and brushing his teeth. I do miss him!
What a sweet memory 🙂
Just went to spray some HF on since my DVN has faded 🙂
Scent twins 🙂
I’m wearing Black Cashmere on this snowy day. I will be a strictly-Friday CP participant this week – I have a low tolerance for sweet-food perfumes. I’m sure I can find at least one thing to wear, but then I won’t want to smell like food again for a month!
Black Cashmere and snow go together so well
Hi! This is Dawn. Technology is still being a butt in my house. Ever since I lost power for 15 hours the day before Thanksgiving, the wi-fi is still acting funny and for a couple things, the wi-fi still isn’t connected. I will be on the hunt to see if the wi-fi password has changed or not. Not a big fan of using all of my data on my phone. Trying to finish up my Christmas shopping. My nephews are my biggest stumbling block. I was going to get them a Nintendo Switch game but the ones I want to get are either too expensive or won’t be back in stock until the Christmas Eve. I am looking at a Star Wars Monopoly game for them. I want to get them more than just the books they asked for. I figure one book each and the Monopoly should do it. Sitting in vintage L’Heure Bleue right now but after my shower, I will be wearing vintage Mitsouko.
Oh! Blast from the past. I bought a Star Wars Monopoly game some 23 years ago or so. Friends and I played often, and it was a hoot. I swear, though, it seemed whoever had the Luke player piece would win.
Of course! The force was with them. ?
? I love board games! Grew up playing Clue, Yahtzee, and a ton of others. I miss those days?
So do I! I love Carcassone especially but nobody in my family wants to play anymore.
No 19 Poudre
Not long lasting but I love it for when it does last…
Yesterday we celebrated crazy monkey’s birthday. My neighbors showered her with gifts and love and she had a dress up party with her little 5 year old friends.
This may seem like a venting post, but I was so upset that only one person (my aunt) called to face time with her and wish her a happy birthday. She is at the age that she knows now. Meanwhile my FIL is ordering us dinner one night for her birthday and he lives in Canada (!!!) and my family is just in the next state…
Sorry to hear your family didn’t call – did you want them to specifically facetime, or did they not call at all? My father and brother call (and mostly on the right day), but to be honest I’m not sure my kids really care that much. But we are dealing with a 9 hour time difference and a language that the kids are not super fluent in, so that probably factors in here.
If your daughter loves those phone calls, is there a way to gently remind your family to get in touch? Maybe they are like my in law family who just don’t get the dates right.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear your family didn’t call….. That’s a tough one.
Sometimes family just stinks. What’s important to you just seem important to some of them. I hope the kiddo wasn’t too disappointed, and was able to enjoy her day.
Oh, sorry! Vent away, please, the rest of us do.
Happy birthday to crazy monkey. I know it would not help but I would be thrilled to facetime with a 5 year old. I am going to have to adopt a grandchild eventually because it is not likely I’ll get one any other way.
Yes, vent away. I would be upset/hurt/ angry too. I hope crazy monkey had a great birthday anyway! 5 is such a fun age.?
Happy Birthday to your 5 year old! Agreeing with Deva, sometimes family just stinks.
Belated Happy Birthday wishes to your crazy monkey! ?
Wow, 5 already! I would call the relatives on FaceTime to lay on the guilt! “I thought maybe you forgot how to connect ?. Here, talk to crazy monkey!”
Monday has started a bit rough at work. There’s so much pressure before the end of the year and now suddenly people remember about deadlines and other things they forgot earlier and that involve me…
SotD is Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme.
Oy. Yup. Good luck, lucasai!
Hang in there lucasai!
Oy!that is so unfair!
Eldo une amourette, really liking this – I’m on an Eldo appreciation trip!
Ack, cannot remember but don’t think I ever got to try that one.
I’ll see if my sweet tolerance allows me to participate in the CP all week. I’m starting it off in Sixteen 92 Ulalume, which has notes of moonflower, toasted almond, tonka bean, sweet fennel, narcissus, mourning veils. It’s one of the more subtle gourmand samples I have of theirs, perfect for attending a morning meeting.
That sounds really nice!
It is pretty nice. Sweet, but not too sweet, and very low profile for work since it’s in oil format.
Bulgari Omnia today. About a zillion sprays. I found that I have a small backup bottle of this one so I don’t feel bad about the overspraying. Rainy and gross today. I would rather it just stay cold and have snow (unpopular opinion, perhaps).
I’m squirting some of that on top later today.
Missing that one while I’ve been monogamous with Winter Palace. I *need* a BUB! You smell great!
Ok I would like it to stay warm and dry and sunny, but yeah, today is gross and a dusting of snow might be preferable to this dreary rain.
That’s exactly what the snow miser wants you to believe. Don’t fall for it!?
LOL! I saw a window display with both of the Miser Brothers in it yesterday! How funny that you mentioned them.
I love them, and their song ?
LOL!!
SOTD = Tom Ford Lost Cherry
I see that it is Pastry Day but for once, I will skip the real pastry ? because I wore one instead ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B53HBxXhgjV/?igshid=1mlteehxywd7x
Looking forward to this week’s CP as I love me some gourmands! I haven’t decided on which one I will wear on Friday!
Eeek, I am stuttering like CM8. Robin, please delete when you get a chance. Thank you.
????
And I know how it happened!
It must be contagious!!!
It must be!
I am slow, but it is *poof*
Thank you!
I figured that this week’s CP would be a slam dunk for you.
We’ll see. I need to plan it out!
Hi all, my SOTD is Chanel No. 5 edc. First squirt went directly into my eye (not the best start! 😀
Oh no! I bet that stung. The price we pay to smell nice. ?
Oh yeah, it did! And I had my mouth open, so I got a strong taste of No. 5 and had to brush my teeth again. Some days, it doesn’t pay to get out of bed…
*ack*
Ouch!?
I’ve done that same thing, squirting perfume into places it shouldn’t go.
Eeek!
I showered with Molton Brown Muddled Plum shower gel and used the corresponding lotion. So, that’s it for now.
Later, I may add a Cherry Almond fragrance oil I bought at a Christmas Market. Jergens original scent on steroids. Quite delicious.
I made my own Jergens by adding vanilla bean oil ( homemade) and bitter almond essential oil ( which is not bitter at all but very sweet) to La Fille de Berlin. It came out really good ?
Ooh I’m intrigued at the sound of your concoction.
I’ll be trying my Muddled Plum shower gel tomorrow! And yum to cherry almond oil.
I’m in Ganymede again today. I sprayed a scarf with it a few weeks ago and I am wearing that scarf again today. It’s my sotd by default. The scent is not going away. Not that I mind.
You are making me so jealous with all your love for Ganymede, and I haven’t even tried it.
I am smitten and that doesn’t happen as often as it used to for me. The leather accord is one of the nicest that I have come across. It’s worth a sample at least.
I’m wearing an unknown scent – it’s a decant in a small brown apothecary bottle. One of you fab people sent this to me a while ago; unfortunately the ink has disappeared from the label, and I can’t for the life of me remember what it is. Light incense and fragrant woods, and it smells really good. Like Bois d’Encens, but I don’t think that’s what it is. Maybe Encens Flamboyant?
Community Project idea: I Lost the Label
Great CP idea, Would be fun
I would be able to participate in that CP!
Great idea for a cp!
I have a little Dixie cup of unmarked samples just waiting to be tried. I’m game for that cp!
Encens Flamboyant is very definitely frankincense to my nose. Perfect for this time of year.
Yes, but I’m a chicken when it comes to unlabeled?
Tried Absolu d’ Osmanthe today, a bit to many honeyed flowers for my liking. And every time i sniffed my wrist i had to think of a fruity cheese, maybe a french comté.
LOL!
Oooooooh, French comte is a wonderful cheese! Yum!
My resolve to buy nothing fell short of 6 months. Elizabeth and James French Grey. 27 bucks on Fragrancenet. Would I buy it again? Probably not, but it’s pretty decent, with the same base to me as Nirvana Black. I think it would layer well. Probably with Omnia. Or Pleasures. I just can’t get enough of that stuff. Smells like swamp lily, and orchid tree flower. Not like death lilies.
Decent price, at least for that!
It’s been about 7 hours now. I like it. I’m sure there are better things to have, but it’s hitting the spot. Now about resetting that 6 month no buy. Oh well, I made 3 months of no clothes, shoes, or accessories and stood firm on that. Since I was so good, I’m going to try some yard sales for perfumes.
Oh, I can go months and months without buying perfume, but clothing, that is hard!
In Delacourte’s Dovana, which the copy says is a “tender musk”. It is a delicate, almost bridal musk. Pretty. Not really memorable.
Writing and cooking today. My reading group is meeting (we only manage about five meetings a year) so I am making a spinach and potato frittata with goat cheese and caramelized onions.
Off topic rant: “Tender” is one of those words that makes me cringe. For some reason it gives me the heebie jeebies. I don’t mind “tenderly” as in ‘she tenderly applied the bandage’… but tender? No, no, no–unless you are referring to legal tender. Noun good, adverb okay, adjective bad.
Lol! Tender is kind of annoying to me, but remained undefined until you pretty clearly summed it up. Thanks!
And your potato frittata sounds delicious. You’ve got one lucky reading group! I tried to join a few in the SF area, but never a match. *sigh*, eventually, I’ll find my group.
You can start one …
OMG I also find the word “tender” cringeworthy, especially when describing food. I’ve never told anyone IRL because they’d all just keep saying it to annoy me ? I also think it’s overused. I thought I was the only one!
You are right. Even a tender steak is creepy! (What is wrong with us? You probably aren’t a fan of “succulent” food either! Again, fine as a noun, NOT as an adjective!)
I like Dovana. I find it very strong and long lasting . Lipsticky too.
I can see that. I tend to be anosmic to many musks, so I may be wafting more than I think!
It’s surprisingly punchy on me. Not as much as Florentina which I loathe, but the ones you dislike always scream the loudest.
Late today! Another super busy day. I thunked the full bottle of Jean Patou Sira des Indes. I enjoyed the last drops immensely, but I do not have any plans to replace it. Rainy, windy day in the 50’s. Not bad for this time of the year!
Yay for thunks!
And yay for NO SNOW!!!!!
If temps had been lower we would be facing now a big snowstorm. It is so crazy outside!. And tomorrow more rain and in the 60’s. No complaints at all!
Wow, this is late for you! I usually look for you to be one of the first posts of the day. Hope tomorrow slows down for you!
Hopefully! ?
Yay for the thunk, and no snow!
I am so glad it was not snow. It has been raining cats and dogs the whole day!
Congrats on that thunk!
Thanks!
Finally time to take a break from Bogue MAAI. I’m scented with Youth Dew body oil today. The body oil is in a dabber-bottle (that’s not exactly what I mean, but there’s a word I’m trying to think of and it wont come to mind); anyway, I find it easier to control the amount I put on with it rather than the nuclear-strength spray perfume.
I’m on project and I hadn’t even bothered to check what this week was!
Lest weekend I made up a christmas-tree scented oil and I think I did a pretty good job! I play with essential oils now and then. I think I’m going to make some Christmas gifts with it and an aroma stone or something – that’d be a good ornament for artificial trees.
I make essential oil blends all the time and do gift them as well. Already sent out a few to my perfume pals and made some more packages to mail out tomorrow with body oils. I am also gifting my yoga teacher several blends.
Same gross weather for me as what MMKinPA has. Lots of chilly rain today. I’d rather have snow too… It doesn’t seem as cold as rain does in these temperatures. But that will be showing up soon enough.
SOTD = Aramis Calligraphy Saffron EdP, from the same lovely person who sent me its parent. It smelled very much like Etro Shaal Nur with my skin chemistry.
Gross weather here too. I drove through snow and rain and a mix! Ugh. Hopefully tomorrow will be better for both of us!?
Supposed to be even more rain here tomorrow. I keep telling myself that there was a bit of drought in September, and that the rain isn’t a bad thing. Maybe I’ll break out the hot chocolate and mini marshmallows tomorrow. ☕
Raining and gross here too, but expecting below zero wind chills by Wednesday. I will take the rain.
Wednesday is supposed to be icky here as well. The latest forecast I saw mentioned 1 to 3 inches of snow here. However, I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’m late checking in today. Went to the final day of our caregivers workshop this morning. Those six weeks really sped by! It’s been quite helpful. There was nice bonding among participants and some sad farewells. Then I did some Christmas shopping and bought myself some snazzy shoes. Mind you, for me this just means comfort shoes, no three- or six-inch heels! I visited Mom and she was pleased with her little Christmas tree. I wore LL Mousse de Chene and still smell good. Not sure if I have anything in the gourmand range, but perhaps a sample of some appropriate sort can be found….
I’m pleased to hear that your Mom is enjoying her little tree. I hope that your brother’s condition is improving Calypso.
Congrats on the snazzy new shoes!
I started out the day in Encens Mythique, and went to Clinique Cocoa & Cashmere just now. It’s cozy and comfortable.
I ought to sniff the Cocoa & Cashmere the next time I am out and about. I still have a little bit of Xmas shopping to do…
Let’s see if I’m the latest one today! My sotd was JHaG Mmmm.. not really a baked good, but has almond in the notes. Thanks to Oakland Fresca I’m trying Serge lutens L’eau tonight. I think alot of people don’t like this one, but you guys I am loving it! enough to look up the price even. There is something in it that gives me the same feeling as Gucci Envy, not that they smell similar.
Nothing wrong with liking what you like! ? It would be a boring world if everyone was the same, wouldn’t it?
Nope, lillyjo, you’re not the last one. Although technically it’s Tuesday at this point. Commando today, left the house early in the morning while contractors worked on fixing one of our bathrooms. Mom and I went on various errands while they did their thing. When they were done, we came back and had lunch, and then I took a nap.
I guess it’s kind of ridiculous that I’m really happy that that bathroom is functional again, but it had needed to be fixed for quite some time. I’m also really happy that we got to the opticians during our morning travels, and they fixed my reading glasses so the right lens isn’t popping out. Prosaic stuff, but I think that all will make my life easier.
I wear my reading glasses all the time at home, to be able to work on the computer, or read books, or food prep instructions or ingredients. Is it me, or are the directions on heating up processed food correctly usually in very tiny lettering on the container?
I think I got some of the “I’m Home” solid perfume smeared into my watchband the other day, because I’m still smelling that a bit. I’ll put some Demeter Gingerbread on at bedtime.
My sleep schedule got messed up before the time changed, but that didn’t help matters. I’ve ended up having a couple of months of feeling on the whole like I’m getting nowhere fast, mentally or otherwise. I will get over it at some point. I haven’t had even a fraction as rough a year as some have had, but it hasn’t been that great a year for me. I think many of us are hoping that 2020 is a better year.
I kind of inadvertently celebrated pastry day with Entenmann’s cheese-filled crumb coffee cake. It’s not fancy, but it’s delicious. If I start talking about Anti-Corruption Day, I’ll venture into political territory I shouldn’t go into, but I have Opinions (with a capital “O”). This is not the place for that. I’ll leave that topic with the summary just below.
TL, DR: Corruption is bad, cake is yummy.
Have a good night, folks!
It’s wonderful that you find delights in small things. It’s a talent and a gift: most of us are easier distressed by small negatives than lifted up by small positives.
Good night!
