Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Repeal Day and World Soil Day. Happy 84th birthday to Calvin Trillin! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking a community project point in Annick Goutal Nuit Étoilée.
Reminder: on 12/6 we're doing Scents of the Season, part 1...wear something that smells like evergreens, or has an evergreen note. Suggested by thegoddessrena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Sipping Cream of Earl Grey by David’s Tea
Flipping through the WSJ and The New Yorker..and trying to finish my book Olive, Again. My TBR (To Be Read) pile is getting bigger and bigger. My Italian teacher asked me when I was going to dive into my Elena Ferrante books..Non lo so…Non lo so…
Forgot my SOTD
Coromandel
Chanel makeup to match
Henri Bendel silk floral shirt
Ohhh, Cream of Earl Grey sounds delicious!
Love the ensemble! 😀
Thank you..
Was it you whom suggested to towel dry curly hair with a t-shirt?
I have been doing that for months and I am finding my hair less frizzy this fall. Its usually a rats nest as soon as the weather cools and the air becomes dry.
Yep, I’m the culprit! Glad it’s working out for you! 🙂
We ran out of nested comments! Someone also suggested All the Light We Cannot See but I never got the book…I think I need to.
My TBR pile is growing as well. I’ve had good luck at the thrift store near my gym. I work out and then reward myself with a little shopping time!
You smell sophisticated and wonderful. ?
What did you find? I love the hunt in thrift stores…
The Couple Next Door
Naked (Sedaris)
The Tatooist of Auschwitz
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Wild (Strayed)
I also found Eat, Pray, Love; I’m a little embarrassed that I’m just getting around to reading this one.
I recently read The Tatooist of Auschwitz, it was quite good!
Currently reading All The Light We Cannot See. Also quite good!
In FM Portrait of a Lady. Wondering how Johanob is doing. POAL was one of his favorite scents. Hope everything is ok with him.
I wonder too..
and where is Bear? Did he run out of espresso…
Both gone ?. Hope they are doing fine.
I hope so too!
I hope so too. ?
I miss them too!
I finally got to sniff POAL this past summer, and can see why it would be a favorite. It would be a tough call for me to pick between a travel spray of it and of Superstitious.
I have not tried Superstitious yet, but now you are making me go get a sample.
No daytime points for me as I’m in Feu Secret this morning, but I’ve spritzed on Sugi the last two bedtimes – does that count?
Everything counts, plus, you smell fantastic.
I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles, so I should get some CP points.
You smell good!
Allure edt smelled so good yesterday that I’m wearing it again today.
Note on yesterday’s estate sale – only one bottle of perfume and an Avon at that. Otoh, tons of vintage clothing and accessories that my young friend is crazy about and it was fun to watch her try stuff on and narrow down her choices. I was just like that in the 70s. The house was like a mid century modern set piece with flocked wallpaper everywhere and heavy curtains trimmed with pom poms 🙂
Sounds like fun! Mid century modern is all the rage right now and I do love that style of architecture and furniture. It’s fun to look at real estate online.
I know, my young friend loved all the decor and furniture and was lamenting that whoever buys the house will get rid of “the cool things” – like the harvest gold wallpaper and the peach colored sinks in the bathroom. It really was amazing.
House twins..
You are making me want to wear Allure. This weekend I will do it…
You won’t regret it, such a pretty scent!
I own a sideboard from the late 50ies, which my parents bought when they were just married. The sideboard held up much longer than the marriage…?
Stuff made “back in the day” was made to last.
What fun!
That’s my mom’s signature scent! You smelled glorious today!
I am wearing Ganymede again. Probably my favorite leather scent ever. It’s a beautiful creamy soft leather accord. It is light, ozonic with the prettiest osmanthus and mandarin notes. It is sheer but very present. Longevity is excellent. I sprayed it on a scarf a few weeks ago and it’s been scenting my closet. Love!
Sounds very pretty.
I need to try that. Once I make it to Wevelgem. They carry Barrois.
Ganymede sounds rather nice. How does it compare to other soft leathers that you have tried?
CP points for me today☺️ ?
Monocle Scent One: Hinoki, by Comme des Garçons!
My new cashmere scarf (super soft in green and dark blue plaid) smells of New york intense and Hinoki now ?
You scarf sounds amazing..and it would match my tartan skirt with those same colors
Yeah I love that colour combo!
That skirt sounds awesome.
Haha I have a whole dress in green/darkblue plaid.
That sounds a bit weird and grandma-like, but its actually a really cool dress.
A-line, knitted, short sleeves, fits tight around the upper body, and has an asymetric hemline.
I really need to wear it more often haha, its a real compliment getter.
I love it when a scarf of mine smells so good. I’ve got a really nice woollen Fragonard scarf that was sprayed very liberally with Chamade extrait a year ago at Place Vendôme in Wevelgem. I can still almost detect it.
Oh what’s that shop like?!
I read about it. Is it worth a detour (for instance when on your way to Lille…)?
Best perfume shop ever! Very much worth the detour.
I never tried Chamade btw… I bet it smells great!
It’s a beautiful baroque green scent with that very plush dry down Guerlain excels at.
Cashmere plaid is a great classic and so wonderful to wear
Yes it is, I could use another one in another color scheme ?
Feeling a little sick and not up to sampling so I reached for the comforting familiarity of Milk of Flowers. I am still project compliant because, while not a conifer, myrtle is an evergreen. Off to the ICA to see the Kusama exhibit “Love is Calling”
I hope you feel better soon!
My sympathies to you, I was up feeling sick all night too. May we both feel better. I’m wearing a little spritz of Xerjoff Lira for comfort.
Feel better soon!
I’m in Heeley Blanc Poudre day 2. Wash, rinse and repeat. Tomorrow starts my 5 day weekend. I can’t wait!?
A five day weekend sounds divine. Enjoy yourself!
Have a good time
Wearing CJ Scents Vanilla Incense. My go to for a low key, relaxing fragrance. And good thing, because several people at work are making a mountain out of a molehill and I don’t really care.
Always best to stay out of it when you can! Hope they all simmer down.
Following lovestosmellgood’s lead. My SOTD isCoromandel
Chanel lipstick – Experimental (bright coral/peach).
Wearing a vintage Balmain dress.
Lemming your lipstick..I looked up the shade. Very nice.
You are very chic today…
Thank you! I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone with clothes and makeup. I cut 10 inches off my normal length (you should have seen the pile of hair!) and am finding I need a bit more oomph in the makeup department.
Besides, any variety of orange & coral colors are so uplifting and cheerful, I couldn’t resist. 🙂
Wow, that’s quite the haircut! I’m not sure that I’ve ever been able to have that much taken off.
A very happy birthday to Trillin, he’s a national treasure. Entirely coincidentally and somewhat appropriately — I don’t have anything that smells like Kansas City BBQ — I’m wearing the cheerful and humorous Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.
You smell great! I scared my sister with that one, but she wears Obsession, which scares me, so we are even.
Haha!
Happy grapefruits holding hands 🙂
I love AA Pampleune, it’s got a great zippy spice to it. Do you get a lot of patchouli in the drydown?
I sure do!
Hey you!!! He is 2 national treasures since he owns property in both countries.
Good point! I always forget he’s a part-time Bluenoser.
Inspired by ringthing, I pulled out my Allure EdP. This is good stuff.
Using a gift certificate this evening for a one-hour reflexology treatment. I believe at some point in that hour I will likely start drooling….
LOL! Do report back 🙂
Haha! Don’t forget the bib! Enjoy ?
I’m getting a point for the cp, in Wazamba. Need to walk the dog, work out, tidy up the house and make a breakfast casserole today. Better get cracking.
You smell great!
Love the idea of a breakfast casserole..
Breakfast casseroles are awesome! What’s in yours?
Hi jalapeño, sorry for the delay. Here’s my recipe:
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/baked-gruyere-and-sausage-omelet-recipe-1944184.amp
I use Swiss cheese since it’s cheaper. You can add any kind of veggie when you sauté the onions; the recipe is very forgiving. I’ve subbed in egg beaters for half of the eggs, and can’t tell a difference. I’ve also used ground turkey sausage to further reduce the fat content.
Use a well-buttered Pyrex pan for minimal sticking.
Enjoy! ?
I love a good breakfast casserole!
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing an impulse buy this morning….M by Mariah Carey. Found a gift set at Walmart and curiosity compelled me to buy. A lot of YouTubers seems to enjoy this one, and I agree that it’s a really nice scent! Starts out with a marshmallow sweetness, but the drydown is a rich spicy incense. Points off for longevity; 4 hours in and it’s fading fast. But for $20, it’s a winner.
Smelly unrelated confession: I’m having serious impulse control issues as I do my Christmas shopping it seems. Bath and Body Works had all of their fragrance mists for $4.95 last week, and let’s just say I went OVERBOARD and now wonder where I’m gonna store what I don’t gift away? LOL The packaging is just sooooo darn cute, and the scents are good for that price point. I really wear body mists more in the summer when I can’t tolerate heavier scents, but I still went a little berserk…. 🙂
I’ve done that with the scented lotions. I have enough to last me for at least five years…
Joining you in body products addiction. I’ve resorted to stashing some in shoe boxes. It aids in hiding the carnage from the hubby…. (o_O)
Ok, good to know it’s not just me! I have several different hiding places, just like a squirrel ?
I have bags of them on the top shelf in my closet!
I repurpose shower gels as hand soap sometimes, which helps.
Do you have any favorites? I’m finishing up a tube of Pacifica Gardenia which I wound up getting tired of … any good winter recs that smell divine?
I mostly buy the gourmand ones: vanilla, chocolate, marshmallow, etc. Although I also like the aromatherapy line a lot too.
The same happens to my with their candles. I have tons! Trying to avoid the upcoming sale! ?
I have that problem with tea…
Oh..and perfume, books and thrift store shopping.
see..you are not alone
Omg, I do that with tea, and maybe those other things. ??
Yes, I have a tea problem as well…
There are six Otherland candles hiding in my closet….and I have a Poshmark problem. You’re not alone 🙂
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
Not on theme but I was inspired by Petunia’s wearing on Tuesday. This is a GEM in the house of Uncle Serge! Not so sure about the reformulated version though. Mine is not new but it’s not very old either so it is not the reformed version. Anyway, my bottle is getting low and I need to think about sourcing a new old bottle!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B5suBuMBoCQ/?igshid=1op4ri6dlax67
In other news, I had lunch at Chipotle but I no longer get the ingredients that the server scoops with gloved hands (just preference). Anyway, I asked for steak which usually comes with the meat cubes in smaller pieces. Today, the steak I got was sliced. When I went to pay, I was charged for asada which I believe is the sliced. I said no, I asked for steak and she again said what I got was asada. I let it go. If the price is different, I may ask for a refund of the difference…although it may not be worth my time BUT I find the practice of substitution unethical,
especially if it is to push a new item and/or for a higher profit.
Chergui is gorgeou stuff! You smell lovely.
Thank you. I can still smell it!
Chergui is bub worthy and perfect for cold winter days.
Thanks for the inspiration.
I’m going to have to try my sample again, to see if I get chocolate, I hope I do!
Chergui didn’t work for me at all when I sampled it. That just means more for the folks who love it.
I first tried it during warmer weather and wrote it off. Didn’t like it all Summer passed and I decided to try my sample again on a cold day and it was true love. It’s a cold weather scent for me.
I have a difficult time with tobacco in perfume. Most of the time, it just doesn’t work for me.
Being incredibly lazy today. My appointments lasted longer than I expected so I was commando all day yesterday. Yesterday, I used all my Ulta rewards points and got some gifts with them. I am about to get in the shower and wash off the Chanel no 5 and go with vintage BaV today.
Good for you on the Ulta rewards points — I need to get shopping!
I’ve been saying my rewards and am trying to figure out what to get, since they have the twenty percent going on.
You reminded me I have Ulta rewards to use! Now to decide between using them for myself or for gifts! Lol!
I stopped using pesticide in my garden a couple of years ago in an attempt to encourage tree frogs to return to the damp bush at the bottom of the section but all that has happened is that word has got out to all the neighbourhood weeds that they can find diplomatic immunity in my garden with the Julian Assange of them all being blackberry. I heard myself mutter ‘ I am too old for this’ yesterday as I hacked away at it, blood pouring off my arms while across the road a neighbour ‘ tended his roses’ in his immaculate weed-free garden ( the type of garden that has a bird bath and water feature) . The only upside ( and everygreen….getting there) was the smell of lillies …waves of heady sweetness in combination with a beautiful rhodoendron . So, la vierge de fer today.
Oh Kanuka, you’ve made my day. “the Julian Assange of them all being blackBerry” 🙂
HA, we likewise stopped using pesticides, more like 10 years ago (although a couple of times I suspect my husband has spread some old, unused scott stuff when I am not at home). Our lawn is green but it is no longer mostly grass.
But blackberry, that is the worst.
Blackberry has few redeeming features…except blackberries.
I sometimes feel like our backyard is the Ecuardorian Embassy for ants. And other critters, too.
Haha! I think ours is Grand Central Station—lots passing through, but also so many animals stopping by for lunch or dinner 🙂
Hmmmmmmmm. Based on this thread, I am glad that the blackberry canes we have are in a very large pot, and NOT in the ground.
I love blackberries… eating them, not hacking them away whilst being shredded by thorns. We don’t use pesticides in the yard here in San Diego, but we also have so little rain almost nothing survives without irrigation.
I’m wearing Lonestar Memories today. It’s gorgeous and just what the doctor ordered.
Oh memories is amazing! Perfect for the cold weather.
Such a good one!
Belles Rives from La Parfumerie Moderne
Ambre Nuit for a CP point, because it has cedar or cypress notes. On my mal way home i went to test some perfumes at the drugstore. Kenzo Amour, Boudoir, Maroussia and a dupe of Hypnotic Poison, but bought nothing.
I overheard a conversation of a salesperson with an elderly man, searching for a scent for his wife. She did not ask what she likes or wears, just pulled out some scents, said that they were new and popular and that was it…. The poor man had no clue and finally randomly bought YSL Libre, which seemed very expensive to him….
Such bad customer service… It made me angry
I think a lot of times the SAs just don’t know much about perfume, or about the brands they’re selling, either. They’re just there to make a sale. Agree, not so helpful.
When I was at the Chanel counter the other week sniffing the Eaux, she kept pushing me try to try Beige because it was their most popular eventhough I told her I wasn’t interested (and have tried it already). And also I should try “Cora-MIN-dull” ?
Cora-MIN-dull! Wow, you’d think they would learn the correct pronunciation at minimum. Amazing…..
That doesn’t even sound like pretend french, lol!
I remember hearing someone in a store mispronounce “aubergine” as “Oh-ber-geen-nie”.
Literally laughing out loud right now!
I hate pushy sales people. I just wave them away and say I will let them know when I need help.
Yes…for the most part that kind of customer service is no longer a given. It backfires I think, because this might be the last year he buys a fragrance at Christmas.
When I used to sell perfume many moons ago, my coworker would suggest Cool Water to everyone! No matter what. She had top sales. I loved helping someone find the perfect perfume, I probably took too much time, my sales reflected that.
Ha, that is funny! Or not funny. Or maybe everyone really went home and loved the Cool Water, who knows!
I stayed home today so was able to try out Hiris after my shower. This is good! I got 2 compliments today while at the spa when I was perusing their jewellery. They both commented on how nice it was.
Plus I think one of the huge Florida bugs was trying to get up close and personal with me. Ugh! I hate bugs. Looked like the same one that my hubby had after him about a week ago, which he finally killed (with MY shoe).
Deva, if you are out there, it had an orange body and huge fluttering black wings, almost like it was hovering as I swatted it away from me! I’m kind of afraid to go back outside right now.
LOL…is there NOTHING in the comment policy about detailed descriptions of large flying insects?? I need to get on that stat, I will probably be seeing your bug in my dreams 😉
Oh trust me, I will probably have nightmares about it for awhile!
How long will you be in Florida this year?
About another 10 days; we go home on Dec 16th.
We have a ‘thing’ that if anyone talks about work, they have to have a White Russian shooter..lol.
So, do some people talk about work on purpose, then?
Yuck! It might have been a palmetto bug. I bet Deva would know for sure.
You smelled great in Hiris!
I felt like something fresh today so went with Carnal Flower. I really like this in the cold- it has a nice sinus clearing effect ?
YUM!
You smelled SO good today!
I’m wearing a bit of Montale’s Vanille Absolu today.
Missed Cookie Day yesterday but am making up for it now, as a lovely colleague just brought me a couple of freshly baked pomegranate molasses ginger snaps. Nom nom…
Pomegranate molasses ginger snaps! That *is* a lovely colleague.
Those cookies sound like they were delicious! ?
Yummy! I make cranberry ginger cookies.
I’m happy to report that the cookies were indeed delicious.
And now I want cranberry ones, too…
In Tom Ford Cafe Rose today.
What do you think of CR?
I can send you a little lillyjo, if you want to try it!
I like it a lot Lillyjo, my favorite Tom Ford after Fleur de Chine.
I love fleur de chine so much!
Oh that’s a nice one! Do you have a full bottle?
Yes, I really enjoy the rose opening, Jalapeno, I have a 50ml bottle.
You smell marvelous!
Thank you Kelly, the rose is so natural smelling in it.
I’m wearing vintage Diorissimo.
You smell lovely!
Thank you, Gail!
Yay.
Yum!
Gorgeous!
You smell great Robin !
I am wearing Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta today.
Why thank you, and so do you!
The Cloudfest continues. Despite a few all too brief peeks of sun today, most of the day was thick, grey clouds and a chilly wind. And to add to the “fun”, our water heater is on the fritz. The warmest water coming out of our faucets is around 75 degrees F. So I might be having another cold shower tomorrow. Bleah!
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian EdP, from the sample stash. Needed an incense scent. But, bonus! It has evergreen notes in with the incense.
Oh no!!! Good luck, we went though that and it took WAY too long to get it replaced.
The good news is, the water heater is fairly new and still under warranty. The pilot light still works. But the burner isn’t doing what it is supposed to do. No idea when and what things will be fixed.
Oh good…we had to replace ours. Hope yours turns out easier & quicker.
I think we had a couple of sun peeks today. No hot water stinks! Thank goodness for the warranty.
The cold showers are vividly reminding me of PE class in junior high, with the mandatory showers after class. I could have done without recalling that. ?
Ack! I remember those too, and not fondly. I need to dig out my bottle of Rêve d’Ossian, this is the perfect time of year to wear it. It lasts about 15 minutes on me so I usually only wear it to bed.
I hope they can fix your water heater quickly.
Thanks, me too!
Eeek. I would not be able to withstand a cold shower.
Pretty sure that I will have a few expletives mixed in with tomorrow’s shower. It will be a quick one!
Can you shower at work or the gym?
Nope.
No gym membership for ages. Work isn’t an option for me. Fortunately, it is for Mr. Jalapeno.
Girl, skip that shower; now’s the time to pull out your vintage Tuvache Jungle Gardenia! (Eons ago, a band director of mine used to joke that his wife wore JG when she hadn’t had a chance to bathe. Patti of the Perfume Posse claims that you can cover up the smell of numerous dead bodies in the basement with just a whiff of vintage JG. 😀 )
The big thing will be to get my hair washed. I have very fine hair that falls flat even with the right styling products in it.
Hope the water heater gets fixed soon!
Today I wore Candy Kiss, because it is so close to being a full bottle thunk. I’m going to let my daughter finish it off tomorrow. I’m about to soak my foot in Epsom salt. I had a splinter about 2 weeks ago, and it’s still bothering me, even though I’m fairly certain I pulled the whole splinter out.
Yay, for a full bottle thunk!
Hope your foot feels much better tomorrow.
If you hear a big THUNK in the morning, don’t worry, it’s just me?
??
Ugh, body parts that have had splinters in them seem to take forever to feel right again.
Hope your foot feels better tomorrow! Epsom salt should help.
I’ll be listening for the thunk. ?
Yay for a FB thunk! Good luck with your splinter.
I wish I had a daughter to help me thunk!
Wearing JM Assam & Grapefruit and loving it ?
Nice!
I wore MPG Ambre Precieux today. On the plus side: had a good visit with Mom. My friend came and brought her a gorgeous poinsettia, which she loved. I took other items for Christmas decorations.
On the minus side: my brother has had an emergency admittance to the hospital in Green Bay and after several procedures and many tests, things are still unclear. He has a gall bladder blockage and possible tumor so will be kept longer for more tests. It’s very worrisome, particularly since my only other relative, my aunt, is facing back surgery on the 19th. I feel my world narrowing in and becoming darker. (It seems petty to mention after this but my favorite cat is going in to have all his teeth out next Tuesday. I’m not feeling very Christmasy.)
Hoping for the best outcome for your family members, Calypso.
This is a lot for you to deal with! I am keeping your family in my prayers.
Hope everything gets better soon for you, your family and your cat. Sending hugs.
So sorry to hear the bad news about your family members, Calypso. Best wishes for all of them, including your little kitty. Hugs.
Hugs Calypso. I hope it all turns out okay.
Oh boy….thinking of you and your various family members. It’s a lot to absorb!
Hugs. That’s a lot to deal with at once.
I’m sending out good thoughts into the universe for you and your whole family. That is alot to handle at once.
Gosh, that’s tough; hope you get some positive news soon about your brother, Calypso. (I don’t think any of us find it petty to be concerned over a beloved pet, or strange that Christmas doesn’t necessarily feel like a very cheerful time…) Hugs.
On the good side, blessings on that friend who delighted your mom with the poinsettia!
That’s a lot, I understand how you feel. Hugs and best wishes for your brother, aunt and kitty!
Hugs and more hugs sent to you, Calypso.
Calypso that’s just overwhelming…thinking of you.
I pulled out HdP Ambre 114 today. I have been working many extra hours this week and I don’t want anything challenging. Ambre 114 is the only perfume that a student has commented on (my students are aged 2-5!)
Pre-schoolers can be very discerning. 🙂 You smell great; hope the rest of your week isn’t so hectic.
I’m in my first week at a new job and I see many extra hours for me in the coming week. Hang in there.
Started off in a bit of Xerjoff Lira this morning, have now switched to Mademoiselle Guerlain. Psyching myself up for a 7:30pm yoga class, it’s hard to go out again when it’s cold and dark but I know I’ll feel better if I go.
I’m soooo not good at going back out when it’s cold and dark. I was going to make something with bacon in it for dinner- left the store, forgot bacon. Didn’t go back and just changed the menu up haha.
I made my 7:00 yoga for the first time in 3 weeks, it nearly killed me but so glad I went. Hope you made it too!
I did make it to yoga, high five to both of us!
?
Avignon for me today. I needed the serenity!
Pass the Avignon please 🙂
