Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!
Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you're especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today...whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy.

Happy T-day to all who celebrate! I am very thankful for this site (thanks, Robin), and all of you here. Smell good, and eat well.
Total agreement with LisaD, grateful for this wonderful community that’s so much more than fragrance.
I will thank everyone too! It would not be a community without such wonderful people.
Happy Thanksgiving Lisa D!
Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful day, good food, good company and safe travels. Muggy and hot down here, waiting for sunrise and listening to the birds. Chypre Mousse . Thanks to everyone at NST.
It is NOT muggy and hot here, but I think it was 50 which is not bad, and we were told we’d have high winds but that didn’t happen and we just had a nice walk at the local gardens. All sorts of wonderful stuff blooming in the conservatory and more paper whites than I’ve ever seen at once, it smelled fantastic.
I had a wonderful walk through the cemetery and gardens yesterday just after dawn and the scent of all the roses were incredible. I think it has been a good year for roses – maybe because winter was so mild?
I am glad you got out and about, and enjoyed the paper whites.
Robin, were you at Longwood Gardens?
Yes, I was just wondering that. 🙂
Yes! I love going during the day on Thanksgiving and Christmas because those are the two least crowded times during the holidays.
Wearing MM By The Fireside and so thankful for all the generous, knowledgeable and very kind people here.
Oh you smell awesome! I’m looking for my travel spray of this !
Vetiver Tonka, but will switch to something later for dinner
Thankful for NST and all the generous NSTers
Hosting today, wish us luck!
Good luck! Are you hosting many people?
Good luck!
?!
Beautiful photo! Wishing for a piece of that pie right now!
In Winter Palace today, and smelling GOOD!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all here in the US. I’m thankful for too many things to list, but specifically want to thank the nice people that inhabit this little blogosphere. Reading comments here never fails to give me a little boost, and days when I’m feeling a bit surly towards the bi-pedal population, I come here to get re-balanced. Thank you ALL! ✌?
Happy Thanksgiving Deva! I hope you have a fabulous dessert!
Happy last shift Deva!??
Happy Thanksgiving, and last shift!
Happy Thanksgiving! Big thanks for last shift! 😉
Right back ‘atcha!
Hoping pumpkin pie will be part of your meal tonight.
Adding more good wishes for your last shift, Deva!!
Yay! It is your last shift! Wishing you and T-Rex a Happy Thanksgiving!
Whoo hoo! Last shift! A Happy and Safe Thanksgiving to you and T-Rex.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who are celebrating today!
Thank you, Robin, for your wonderful blog and warm wishes to all the knowledgeable and generous commenters.
I am wearing Vanille 44 today.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you lillyjo! Same to you and your family. Hope the turkey turned out well?
You smell great adanst!
Thank you Robin!
I’m wearing Memo Lalibela, the most recent expensive perfume I splurged on. Love it! I’ll be having noontime dinner out at Mom’s senior place, then coming home and cooking for two friends for this evening. Just something simple–salmon, wild rice mix, green bean casserole. Dessert will be my friend’s specialty: coffee tres leches cake. Lots of appetisers and, of course, wine. I am thankful for friends, cats, and the community of bloggers and commenters–such as here–we learned yesterday when Gaia died how close such communities actually can be.
P.S. Robin, that’s a beautiful pie photo! Now it just needs to be topped up with whipped cream!!
Seriously needs whipped cream, I hope they put some on right after the photo!
Our dessert will be a clementine cake with chocolate ganache frosting — not traditional but I can’t wait.
That cake sounds yummy! ?
I bet fish was on the Pilgrim’s menu! You smell wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving!
Survey says that’s probably a smart bet, IMO.
Oooh, coffee tres leches cake sounds marvelous. I love both singly, and I bet putting them together makes a really delicious concoction.
Another friends giving over here; I’m making my favorite big meal – Bo Ssam – for a couple of folks. Friends are bringing chocolate mousse cake, and souffle fixings to bake after dins. It’s going to be a feast!
It is snowing this morning – a rarity here in the high desert. I think it’s kinda cool, but Otto Mi Gato is supremely uninterested in the weird white stuff falling from the sky.
Working a 4 hour shift today. With all the winds we had yesterday, my family and I were without power for 15 hours. My parents are now running around like crazy people trying to do too much at once. Wearing vintage no 5 today.
Hope it’s a fast 4 hours for you!
Vintage No. 5 is glorious stuff. Hoping you have a wonderful day!
Oh no! Power failure at Thanksgiving is just wrong. Hope everything comes together.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I am having a very low key holiday. Mom has been in the hospital for the past two days, so family is here with her sharing the day. We are watching now the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv. Mom has been craving her favorite coconut custard pie, so we will all indulge in a piece later this afternoon. We are all trying to be in good spirits despite the stressful circumstances and we are very grateful not only for the good times, but also for the rough ones we are facing this year. I brought pastries and bagels for the staff early this morning. We are very thankful for their hard work, especially during the holidays. I am pretty sure they would love to be with their dear ones today.
I am also grateful for this wonderful perfume community. You are all great. Thank you Robin for keeping this blog running every single day despite the hard times you also face sometimes.
I am wearing 2 tiny sprays of Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose. A scent that a dear friend in fragrance loves, as much as I do, and that she wears only on special occasions. Today is a special day no matter what and Lipstick Rose is making me feel positive and optimistic.
I wish you all a peaceful and cheerful day!
Happy Thanksgiving pl67! I’m wishing good health to your mom. Enjoy that pie!
Thank you, Lillyjo. Enjoy the day! How is the turkey going?
So far, so good!
Sending good thoughts to you and your mom, pl67. Happy thanksgiving to you too!
Thank you, Madtowngirl! Enjoy your kids and your dinner! May I have a piece of your pumpkin pie? ?
What a year you are having… hope today is a good day with family, and hope your mom is feeling better soon. Hugs!
Thank you, Pixel. Sending hugs back!
You smell lovely. Best wishes for your mom’s recovery.
Thank you, Cazaubon. Have a grat time at your SIL’s.
Wishing much peace today and hoping your mom improves! Craving her favorite pie is a positive sign, and it’s one of my faves, too! Wishing I’d made one myself ?
Thank you ElisaP. Coconut custard pie is my favorite too. I have never made one. I always get it from the bakery store. Thinking if I should try myself for Christmas… ?
I tried making one once a long time ago and I have to say, it wasn’t as good as the Entenmann’s one that I really love ? I should try again…
I love the Entenmann’s pies! Once in a while I grab one from the supermarket and indulge in it! ?
So glad you are going to celebrate albeit in a different setting, I think coconut pie should always make it to the thanksgiving menu. All best wishes for your mother’s recovery.
Thank you, Aurora. Looking forward to more cheerful holidays next year. In the meantime we are thankful to still have mom around. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Best wishes to you, your mom, and the whole family. I bet the pie will taste especially good this year.
Thank you! This year we will appreciate and enjoy the pie more than ever. It is bringing mom some happiness and that is priceless. Enjoy the holiday!
So glad you will all manage to share your mom’s favorite pie regardless!
And I should do a shout out to nurses and hospital staff too, I was actually blown away at how kind and generally wonderful EVERYONE was when we spent time in a huge teaching hospital last week.
I agree with you Robin. The nurses and staff here have also been great. So grateful for it. They truly deserve to be recognized.
Mom enjoyed her slice of pie. I saved one more piece for her for tomorrow. No more after that!
I’m grateful for medical and other hospital staff who are working today, and for our first responders. As folks here have pointed out, the holidays can be very tough if a loved one has passed away or is ill. And for those people who are living on the edge in society, it can be very rough, too. That’s why I’m keeping in mind that I do have many things to be grateful for.
I’m also grateful for the friends I have in person and the folks I can talk with online. 🙂
I was watching the parade this morning, too! Healing thoughts to your mom, and hugs for your family.
Thank you, Jalapeno. I was glad that the ballons were not grounded.
sending you good energy pl67.
Thank you, Apsara.
Sending your family love today <3
Thank you, Koyel. The same to you and your family.
also Sending love and peaceful thoughts
Thank you, Flopper. Sending hugs.
Happy Thanksgiving, Dearest PL67!! ???? (And to all NSTers! ?)
I got your adorable card; it cheered me immensely. I hope you got mine in time! Remember that my bottle of Schweiger’s ?? is always at the ready to refill your decant, so spray away!
I hope your Mom is feeling much, much better. You are an AWESUM ROCKIN’ daughter…
I was reading the NST post about Chanel No. 19 a few weeks ago, & Angela had an exchange w/ someone within the comments about Esprit d’Oscar. Intrigued, I ordered a bottle of the EDP (tester) on fragcom and that’s what I’ve been wearing for the past couple weeks. The juice is dark amber, which worried me at first & I suspect a lot of the top notes are gone, cuz I’m getting zero citrus. But on me, it’s an iris-violet velvet-powder dream, so of course I thought of you! I cannot get enuf of it – – I keep huffing my sleeves, even in work. ? I’m thinking of getting the EDT, too, but wondering if you (or anyone) knows how it compares to the EDP? It reminds me of a fuller, richer Prada Infusion d’Iris, but some reviews don’t even mention iris being one of the notes. Maybe the ton of heliotrope in it mixed with other notes is coming off as iris? I need Iris Expert Input (you, Robin, et al…)
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Ellebe! ??????. I also received your beautiful card. It cheered me up greatly. Thank you! ❤
Thanks also for your good wishes to mom. Looking forward to better times.
I tried Esprit d’Oscar a couple of years ago. I don’t remember if it was the EdT or the EdP. A creamy floral scent with a very nice citrusy opening. The tuberose note was prominent on me, which was a let down, because you know that tuberose is a note that I don’t handle well. I never got iris from it. I agree with some people that Esprit has a similarity with L’Heure Bleue. That was another scent that it never worked for me. Esprit is a nice scent, so if it makes you happy enjoy it to the most! ?
I hope someone else also chimes in about it.
Sending hugs!
ElleBe I don’t think I have ever smelled it (or if I did, I can’t remember) so I will be no help!
Wishing you a peaceful day and hope your mom recovers soon.
Thank you, Petunia! Enjoy the day!
I hope your mom gets better soon and is comfortable in the meantime, and I’m sure the hospital staff appreciates your kindness. Enjoy the pie!
Thank you!
Late late late. Sending healings thoughts to your mom!
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you celebrating!
It’s just a normal day in part of the world. And the only time I was in the US during Thanksgiving is over 20 years ago. I spent that holiday on a trip to San Francisco with two friends. It was great.
A very big thank you to you, Robin. For keeping us informed (and on our best behaviour 😉 )!
Happy Normal Day Austenfan! And I bet you smell great for the occasion ?
I do and thank you! Inspired by my lovely Divine yesterday I’m wearing the even more gorgeous L’Eternel Féminin by Divine. It’s the extrait version of their first fragrance and my firm favourite from the line.
I need to explore more of this line- I’ve only tried L’etre Aime and Spirituelle- both nice.
Those are nice. It’s a compact line so you can easily sample all of them. I think they even still sell a sample packet.
I liked that Thanksgiving was the one non-commercial holiday, but now that Black Friday has extended to the entire week before and the Monday after, it doesn’t feel that way anymore!
Still, nice to have a day with family, and any holiday with mashed potato must be a good thing 🙂
I’m in Musc Ravageur. My girls and I are about to bake a pumpkin pie. Turkey and all the fixings will be later.
I’m thankful my kids can be home and they are all healthy and happy. Also thankful for NST and everyone here. Your kind words and generosity are amazing.☺️
We were almost twins again! Happy Thanksgiving!
Yay, have fun with the bigs today!
Plenty of whipped cream to go with that pie, hopefully! ?
So terribly sad to learn of Gaia, thenonblonde’s death. She seemed such a caring, contemplative person. I loved her blog and the little touch she had of sharing quotes from recently departed icons of hers. So sad, but fitting, that her husband did that for her. Condolences to all her friends and family.
Oh my God! What a shock! I loved reading Gaia’s blog, and agreed whole-heartedly with your assessment. I’ll be thinking about her loved ones today.
Me as well. I loved reading Gaia’s blog and hearing her musings. Her voice will be sorely missed. Sending my comforting thoughts to Ori and her family (furry babies also).
It is just tragic that she went so quickly.
If anyone missed it:

Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving! My SOTD is vintage Magie Noire extrait. We’re headed to a friend’s for Thanksgiving, I’m bringing a cheese/fruit platter, sweet potato casserole, and honey-minted smashed carrots.
Giving thanks for the love of friends and family, and everyone in our lovely perfume community, but mourning the loss of one of our own – Gaia, of The Non-Blonde. She was a perfume and beauty blogger who unexpectedly passed away last weekend. I’m giving thanks for having know her, she was truly a generous and lovely soul. And she and her husband Ori loved kitty cats (current count was 16). =^.^=
Happy TG! The carrots sound especially delish.
Thanks! It’s just baby carrots cooked until tender, mashed with salt, pepper, honey, butter, and chopped fresh mint leaves.
That sounds great, I will have to try it.
I am trying those carrots soon. They sound so tasty!
Oh! Vintage Magie Noir extrait! (happy sigh)
Echoing what many of you have already said, I am very thankful for this community space and Robin’s very kind and capable moderation of it, and for the extreme kindness and generosity of everyone who visits here regularly – helps keep me sane and aware that there are always good people to be found in the world. Mr. G and I celebrated early, last weekend, and today are hunkering down, doing basically nothing and going no farther than the mailbox for yesterday’s mail. SOTM is a little cloud of PG Cuir d’Iris.
Oh nice to have a relaxing day! Since we are hosting but not cooking, we are pretty darned relaxed too.
Cuir d’Iris sounds lovely!
Happy Thanksgiving, all! Wishing everyone peace and joy today. Wishing my day hadn’t started with (a) cleaning up the mess made when I dropped the cat food can on the floor and (b) half an hour later, cleaning up the remaining cat food that had gone into the cat, then came back out. I will be thankful if we have an upward trend for the rest of the day 🙂 🙂 🙂
LOL! I can relate. Hope your day gets better. 🙂
Oh Yikes! Poor kitty cat. SmokeyToes is sharing his displeasure with morning breakfast also. What a wakeup alarm call! Hope your kitty cat feels better soon!
Ha! Ugh. Upwards, indeed!
Ack! Hope things are going smoothly now.
You need a dog because then you could have had c) dog looks at vomit mess, shrugs, thinks ‘mmm could be tasty’, glances around to make sure no one else has the same idea, and then gobbles it up. Problem solved!!!
Oh yuck.
…Our dearly departed cat, Mayhem, once ate up his own vomit. In fairness, the vomit was almost all discrete pieces of food. Still. (Ever since then, we have gotten a lot quicker about cleaning up cat messes.)
Oh, this reminds me of Cat friend vs Dog friend on YouTube. So funny.
Oooooof. I’m all too familiar with the early morning cat barf cleanup. And its late night counterpart. I hope that your kitty is feeling better now.
The turkey is in the oven! It was thawed except for a little ice on the inside. The inside of a turkey is discusting! My son says…
Uh mom, is that the turkey we didn’t eat from last year? ?
I like to think I am thankful every day, but in case I’m not, I am so grateful for my family, and my home. Also to all of you here. You guys help me see the good and kindness around me. Kanuka, you should have seen me trying to appreciate nature while raking leaves the other day! At least im trying.
This Thanksgiving falls on the anniversary of my dad’s passing. 31 years. I lost my mom 5 days before Christmas. Lots of love to all missing a loved one this holiday season.
Sotd is Angelique Noire, thanks to the kindness of a Nster. This is fabulous! I think I’m in love!?❤?
You smell wonderful, I love Angélique Noire.
I can’t believe I’ve been missing it all these years!
I adore AN – you smell wonderful! 🙂
I certainly do!
Wow, that’s a couple of tough anniversaries. Hugs to you and all the other NSTers who are missing loved ones this holiday, especially Koyel and She-Ra, with a special thought to Gaia Fischler’s family who is sitting shiva instead of celebrating Thanksgiving together.
Thank you, cazaubon <3
I agree with the sentiments. *Hugs*
I’m sure your disgusting Turkey will be great ? Wishing you a great day- I’m grateful for your excellent sense of humor, even during tougher times.
Ha! You made my day! If I had any confidence at all, I would have been a stand up comedian. I appreciate you guys being my audience ??
Well, if it gives you any hope, a lot of comedians are neurotic, anxious, depressives who lack confidence. So there’s still time!! Happy to be your audience ?
True, true… but since I don’t like to drive, I’d never show up to my gigs! Lol!
Fingers crossed for the turkey, Lillyjo, I bet you will come through with flying colors.
Thanks, I’m cooking it a little longer, to avoid any poisoning, lol, I will report back!
lillyjo – sending you much love and comfort – it’s so difficult to lose a loved on, the holidays make the ache seem a little deeper. ((hugs))
Thanks SmokeyToes. Part of the blessing of NST is being able to share here, and being here for others when they are sharing.
I am sure the turkey will be delicious!
I am going to have my own moment of silence for my sister later, and will add a moment for everyone else who has lost loved ones. It is so hard at the holidays.
Peaceful thoughts and prayers for you and your family this season, Robin.
I am so sorry about your sister, I always wanted a sister. Hugs.
Thank you cazaubon.
She died in 2010, so it is a long time ago now but it is still a shock.
You should have heard me trying to appreciate nature as I was pulling out blackberry and weeding the other day!
I hope the turkey behaves itself and your kids enjoy it. They have a totally awesome mum!
Thanks Kanuka! Every so often my daughter calls me mummy, I love it!
Mr. Jalapeno pulled out the giblets today from the turkeys that he is smoking on Saturday. Tomorrow will be the making of the brine. How did your turkey turn out?
All I can say is thank goodness for rubber gloves with pulling things out of a turkey! It turned out fine, I used one of those turkey bags, so that helped. Looking ahead to Christmas ham though, those are easy!
Yay for a successful turkey! ?. Agree that ham is much, much easier and tastier!
Hugs <3
(I'm sure the turkey will be great!)
And one right back to you, friend?
I enjoy your comments and music choices very much, lillyjo! Your son’s comment cracks me up 🙂
Thanks ringthing!
Thankful for the friends of NST. And blessings of family and health.
Couldn’t find my travel of By the Fireplace, so I’m wearing Coco Mad Intense and Angel Muse.
You smell double great!
Flopper, I have a Fireplace travel that I don’t use because it didn’t work for me. Just sprayed few times (99% full). I can send it to you. Please, let me know.
Oh you’re so sweet! I ordered another travel spray after I posted today! Thank you for your offer. ?
Baked 2 pecan pies last night, dinner rolls are in process. Heading over to SIL’s at 3pm for feasting. Wishing all my US friends a Happy Thanksgiving! I am wearing 4160 Tuesdays Midnight in the Palace Garden.
Happy Thanksgiving! You just reminded me about rolls, thanks!
Pecan pie, another fave. I’ve never actually made one. Enjoy!
They are super easy, the directions are right on the bottle of Karo syrup. :-). The most labor-intensive part is my home made butter pie crust.
Pecan pie! How delicious.
Pecan pies smell so wonderful when they are cooking. ?
Yay for pecan pie! We never had it when I was a kid but it’s my southern transplant husband’s favorite. I made a couple yesterday morning with my mother in law’s recipe.
My family has stopped celebrating Thanksgiving, because three family members have died on or around Thanksgiving (at various times). November is a difficult month for my family. Today I’m wearing Dark Horse. The next time Dame has a sale, I’ll be buying a full bottle.
I’m sorry for your families losses. It’s so very tough.
Dame has been running sales lately, I think this week is on New Musk, so keep an eye out.
Aw, hugs to you PriscillaE. I hope your day has some comfort in it.
So sorry that for you the association with thanksgiving is not a joyous one. Wishing you comfort.
Sending hugs and peace, Priscilla.
November is almost over, Priscilla. Adding more wishes for peace.
Hugs Priscilla.
I’m sorry, Priscilla. Hugs during this difficult time of year.
You smell great. Dark Horse is my favorite Dame scent, and though I’ve never gotten an FB, I’ve bought or received a number of those little 5mL travel sprays (though sadly it looks like he doesn’t sell those anymore??), so I’ve probably gone through the equivalent of a quarter of a bottle by now.
I wish he would start selling those again.
Me too! I bought a bunch of those, but I’ve never bought any of his FBs.
That’s so hard. My sympathies to you.
That’s rough, Priscilla, wishing you comfort during this time.
Dark Horse is great.
Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US.
Here in Poland it is not celebrated… but we do have Black Friday sales.
SotD is Jul et Mad Amour de Palazzo.
Black Friday is like an epidemic!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I am very thankful for this lovely community; I swear it keeps me sane at the end of each day. Thank you Robin and all of the contributors here.
Today I’ve already worn some La Pausa edt to the gym (thank you hajusuuri); it was a bit cloudy this morning in Central Florida so thought it would be a good time to wear it. This has since worn off, so now I’m SJP Stash (thank you pl67)! The sun has also decided to show up so I am heading off to the pool to grab some chairs for my golfers who should be home soon.
How do you like Stash? Unfortunately it didn’t work for me.
It’s very quiet on my skin; so far so good! It reminds me of something vintage but can’t put my finger on it yet; I will probably think of it in the middle of the night!
I am so glad you like it!
Stash is Donna Karan Black Cashmere lite on me. I really like it as a no brainer in cool weather. Being able to swim sounds like heaven, enjoy 🙂
The pool! You’re killing me!?
Enjoy!
Lol.. sorry lillyjo! So far so good with the weather; we’ve been pretty lucky.
Stash didn’t work for me at all. I can’t remember if I got the dreaded dill pickle note, or if it was celery.
Happy TG to those celebrating and peace to those for whom holidays are hard. And just wishing a stress-free Friday eve to everyone.
We’re sitting in traffic. We started out with Google maps saying 49 min, and after 20 min it’s still 48 min ?
I guess we’ll get there just in time to eat ?
The apple-pear pies I made turned out looking nice, and the green bean casserole the hubs made also looks really good.
True confessions: I left the pie crusts out to thaw while prepping and caught my cat licking away at both of them. No one needs to know, right? ?
I’m wearing Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be which is smelling delicious and making me hungry!
Adding my gratitude for this special community- who else wants to listen to me talk about perfume ad nauseam? Uh, no one? Plus, it’s become so much more than just perfume- sharing our day-to-days makes it extra special. Much love to everyone ?
Love the story about the cat, I would have done the same thing. Hope you can get to your destination soon.
Ha! Thanks ? Very hard to find last minute pie crusts. Anyway, heat kills anything.
Lol! Cat’s are clean right!? I hope you get out of traffic soon. Happy Thanksgiving!
Well, sort of clean. I think the only people who might’ve care would be my in-laws. My FIL hates cats. Our hosts have a slobbering (adorable) dog and a cat. Thank you and same to you!
Those pies might taste better after your cat’s contribution! ?. Happy Thanksgiving!
Haha! Thank you! I think so ?
UGH, hope you are out of traffic now and eating those pies!
The pies have been eaten and we were actually home before six, with blessedly no traffic coming back. Short and sweet!
Yay!
The cats just wanted to help with the holiday prep! ?
So very helpful ?
Those are very nice sentiments, Elisa. Sending love to you, too. I think as long as the pies are baked afterwards, that should take care of cat germs. (lol) Glad you had a good holiday. 🙂
O_O Cats really are just the naughtiest >.<
Oh my gawd! My cats used to get up on the counter and lick the butter right out of the butter dish! LOL. Fortunately with a pie crust you won’t see the licky-prints from their little tongues. Hehehe.
Ha! The cat story is so funny and apple pear pie sounds delicious, glad your day went well.

I’m leaving for a family get together in a little while. I think turkey is in the menu but with my family, anything goes; after all, my contribution is empanadas (I outsourced the cooking).
I dropped off mini cupcakes and cookies at the Senior home where my mom stayed before she passed. I am thankful for the 2 weeks and 1 day that she was there, in the loving care of nuns and lay healthcare professionals. I plan on going there at least every few months and perhaps more often to volunteer (spending time with some of the residents).
Have a Happy Thanksgiving ? and happy shopping (I am not done yet ?)!
What a lovely thing to do! I’m sure they really appreciate that.
Empanadas! No occasion is complete without them, lol! Great idea.
It was great..I should have taken pictures. I brought 3 him and have 2 left ?
That should have said brought 3 back home!
Happy Thanksgiving! Save some shopping for Cyber Monday!
Heh, maybe I’ll wait but I stop looking once I buy so no regrets if a better deal comes along!
YUM, empanadas!
They were!
Empanadas are a great addition to any holiday table! Were the ones you contributed sweet or savory?
They were savory! We only had 2 desserts: lemon squares which my cousin’s daughter made from my aunt’s (her grandmother) recipe and a berry pie!
Whoa, holy package change! I really love the new box. The bottle…eh, I’ll reserve judgment until I can feel one of the new bottles in my hands. (I really really liked her old bottles.)
Really love your plan to visit the senior home <3
Thank you. I don’t know if you were reading the day we were exchanging notes and some people mentioned getting velveteen bags, which I didn’t!
Ah, no, i missed that! I’m still contemplating an SSS order, but like some others, I’m deterred by the high shipping cost/free shipping threshold. I expect I’ll cave eventually and will enjoy whatever packaging I get 🙂
What a nice gesture! And thanks for showing the new SSS packaging. We will want a full report on your shopping expeditions of course.
We are having a massive rainstorm and the roads leading to our local mall are flooded and closed. I’m sure the merchants are not pleased, but what did they expect, building in a riverbed?
Will report back on the shopping!
What a lovely thing to do.
I am glad that it brings you happiness too.
I love empanadas.
You win all the way.
Thank you. I think those 2 weeks helped mom but also made us feel better that she was cared for!
That is pretty packaging for Bee’s Bliss and a lovely gesture for the senior home staff, you’ve inspired me.
Thanks! I’m glad I was able to inspire!
I am thankful for all of you, for your humor, opinions, and kindness. I’ve learned a lot from this community. And my heart aches for everyone for whom today is cloaked in sorrow.
SOTD is Winter Palace, again (scent twins with Deva!). Like Cazaubon, I made two pecan pies last night. Currently have corn pudding in the oven — it is a Pennsylvania Dutch specialty that I would not touch until my late teens. Now I think it’s the most delicious thing ever. We are heading to a friend’s place in a couple of hours to celebrate with her and her daughter and son-in-law.
Corn pudding! I haven’t had that in AGES. It is indeed delicious, like a cross between cornbread, creamed corn, and quiche.
I have never had corn pudding, and I am right next to Pennsylvania Dutch country! Sounds like something I should eat.
I haven’t ever had corn pudding either. And I’m still a stranger to apple cider donuts. I’ve been slacking on my culinary education. ?
I know corn pudding and apple cider donuts, but not empanadas! Lol
(I have to whisper but my family thinks apple cider donuts are delicious but I don’t get it. They just taste like old school cake donuts with lots of sugar and cinnamon. I’d rather have a Krispy Kreme any day.)
? Robin!
Why do they sound so good? I have never tried them or heard of them until seeing it here.
Well, my husband and my son love them so don’t take my word for it! But I don’t even think they taste much like cider.
Mom. My niece-in-law who hosted us made corn pudding tonight! It was really good- a dessert really. There’s a smokehouse/bbq place that has corn “bread” that is really corn pudding and it’s soooooo good!
ElisaP, Happy Thanksgiving.
Aren’t you a big fan of Equitris? It looks like something is up, it is no longer offered in some stores, there are only a couple still available at Luckyscent in their original larger sized bottles at the original cost.
No affiliation. I thought of you… I always go back & forth between choosing this one & Le Cri della Luminere. as I recall you preferred Equitris. They are all bottled now in 50 mls so it is a great deal for both reasons. (I grabbed one)
Happy Thanksgiving to those in the U.S. I’m grateful to have more than enough to eat and a roof over my head. My circumstances are pretty comfortable, considering.
My hands this morning were scented with fresh sage and thyme. Mom looked up stuffing recipes on the Internet, and we went with a hybrid of a recipe she found online and what Mom remembers of the way her grandmother made stuffing. I said to Mom it was lucky that the herbs were in a relatively sheltered place and still had many live leaves.
I’m sure her Nana didn’t use fresh herbs, but using bread, fresh celery, canned mushrooms and some dried herb seasonings have been consistent ingredients for us over the years.
I belated realized that Kanuka’s comment from the other day about seeing Black Friday advertising was marking something odd, as one doesn’t expect Black Friday sales in New Zealand. (I don’t plan to go out to shop on Friday, but good luck to those who do.) I just the other day finished a novel (fiction) by J.L. Merrow, titled Counter Culture, in which an independent (fictional) British department store was trying to have a Black Friday sales event. The lower-level retail worker characters in the store were mocking the idea for a good portion of the book. Truth is stranger than fiction.
I smiled reading about your adventures in stuffing prep. I’ve made a variant of my mom’s stuffing for ages now. I don’t think she’d recognize it as hers, given the changes I’ve made to it.
Ours was recognizable, and quite good. 🙂 I said that the fresh herbs in it were what made it that tasty. But it’s good no matter what we figure out to put in it.
The comment above should have had *belatedly instead of “belated.”
My brother is sort of a second responder. He’s a social worker, and at one of his jobs, the police call out the team he’s on if they feel that someone they’re dealing with as first responders is in need of mental health care. He worked a full shift today. I’m grateful to the professionals who help people in crisis.
Ah, kudos to your brother, that’s good work.
Scent at bedtime: Tried Comme des Garcons Leaves: Calamus. What I got was pleasant, but I don’t think I got that much of the scent. I’ll try it again when my nose is less dried out.
Happy Thanksgiving to all across the pond: all the talk about food is making me hungry.
Robin, I imagine you cool and collected with no food preparation necessary, enjoy the day.
In Teatro alla Scala today, honeyed animalic, it feels very decadent somehow.
It does sound decadent!
We did enjoy it very much, thank you, and seriously it was so much nicer to have the food made by someone else that I am tempted to do it every year. I have to sit down with a calculator, I suspect it didn’t really cost us much more either.
Also, we did not set off the smoke alarms … we are big fans of the Serious Eats method of cooking large cuts of meat at very low temps and then crisping at very high temps at the end, which inevitably makes for big drama right before you serve 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow NSTers who celebrate! I’ve been listening to the wind whip around the house today, and I am thankful that I am not traveling in it. I am also grateful for this community of thoughtful, kind-hearted souls who understand and appreciate this scented hobby. You all are no doubt smelling fabulous today.
Not cooking our big meal today, so we will be having steak for dinner tonight. I’ve enjoyed reading what edible delights everyone else is preparing.
SOTD = the controversial Alexander McQueen Kingdom EdP, from the sample stash. Yes, it has a BIG hit of cumin in it. I find it a spicy oriental perfume that leans a little masculine on me at first. Not a scrubber on me, but I am not sure how I feel about it. Definitely an odd one.
Happy Thanksgiving! Steak sounds good to me. I had very little wind today, so hopefully it will calm down by tomorrow for you.
It just occurred to me that I haven’t heard the wind since the sun went down. I’m glad to hear that your turkey turned out well. BTW, Thanksgiving turkey makes a great chili, if you are looking for ideas on how to use up leftovers.
It’s been windy here all day. Still blowing even now.
That wind was Crazy!! I was outside in the yard late last night making sure nothing was going to lift off and go through a window. My husband commented that it was windier than hurricane Sandy, which actually wasn’t windy at all, oddly.
Steak sounds great!
Yikes! It sounds like the wind was worse by you today than what I had. Nothing like Sandy down here, thank Heaven!
Kingdom is wonderful!
Happy Thanksgiving to all those folk who celebrate it. We in New Zealand seem to be increasingly adopting the commercial accompaniments – as I see Poland is too!
I’m very glad it’s Friday, although it seems like only 5 minutes since I wrote that last week. I’ll be wearing Serge Lutens Fleur d’Oranger today, I put some on the other night for the first time in a while and had forgotten how much I
like it.
And FdO doesn’t get many mentions here anymore…and NEVER hear about Fleurs de Citronnier, which I liked too.
I love Fleurs de Citronnier as well, it is very much under the radar.
I saw Fleur de Citronier recently at a nice discount on twisted lily I think but doubted the purchase as I never actually saw it in store.
At this point I strongly dislike SL full princing and the reformulations of the ones I liked…
Noted for next time!
Yes, and I have not smelled a new bottle in years — it might be reformulated to death!!
Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful day. Sipping chai with soy milk and wearing Byredo Rodeo.
Hope you had a peaceful day too!
Happy Thanksgiving to all, whether you celebrate the US tradition or not. Giving thanks to all my wonderful friends, family, coworkers, and strangers who do small favors to make life easier for all of us. I felt okay this morning so I’m roasting my Thanksgiving duck today instead of tomorrow and the house smells wonderful. I’m wearing Josef Statkus, a gift from a perfume friend. I am truly blessed in many, many ways.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Enjoy that duck! ?
You smell amazing. I had a sample of Josef Statkus, and loved it. Sadly, I don’t think it can be found anymore (at least I haven’t been able to buy any).
Hope the duck is luscious!
Wow, have not heard about Josef Statkus in ages. Glad there is still some floating around the universe 🙂
SoTD: VIntage L’Air d’Temps, in honor of Mom, on her birthday.
A Happy Thanksgiving wish to you all..
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Thank You lilyjo.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks Jalepeno.
I have a serious empanada hankering now. Can’t shake it, so going to roll with it!
Wishing everyone ( in the US or not) many reasons to be thankful each day. Have strength and grace and love around and always find kindered fragrant spirits when needed.
No Thanksgiving here, had an ample Indian takeout dinner and wearing Sylvaine Delacourte’s Vahina, which makes me think of pastel bonbons.
Oh, a big Indian takeout dinner sounds like reason to be thankful!
It was, I’ll thankfully eating it leftovers at lunch too!
Thinking of empanadas now…
Yesterday was busy since we made the spread for our friendsgiving plus made lunch for mom and ate with her. The whole day was a blur of cooking, eating, laughing and dish washing (also drinking but that’s part of the laughs.) I wore Stash.
So today the house is still relatively clean and there’s a whole pot of gumbo to eat, wearing Hypnotic Poison and relaxing. It’s been lovely to read all the wonderful comments here, more thanks to Robin and everyone for this special community 🙂
