It's Tuesday and International Men’s Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm de-stressing after yesterday's dental work with Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate. Tea at the moment is Shangri-La Estate (Nepal) black tea from Upton. (And a quick PSA: a family member is having a rescheduled surgery this week, so I may disappear for even longer stretches of time than usual. I should still manage to put up a scent of the day post every day, but if not, apologies in advance.)
Reminder: on 11/22, wear a fragrance by Nasomatto, Neela Vermeire Créations, Naomi Goodsir, Nest or Nobile 1942, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter N.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wishing you a Happy Birthday pl67!?
Many happy returns,
Robin, hope your family member surgery goes well. Sending healing thoughts.
Thank you!
Adding my good wishes!
Hope it all goes well with the surgery!
SOTD is Rien Intense Incense by ELDO.
Thanks Sebastian!
You are smelling wonderful!
Thank you!
I’ve only ever sniffed Rien which I love. I’d imagine you smell marvelous.
Thank you! Actually I like Ríen a bit more. The heavy incense in the flanker takes away a bit the animalic beauty in the original.
Never smelled the Rien Incense Intense, but your description makes me think that maybe I should.
I think you should, it’s very nice. The first 3-4 hours are different with a lot of incense (but not frankincense), but the dry down is almost identical to original Rien.
SOTD Is Miller Harris’ Figue Amere (woods, salty notes, and amber).
One of my favorites from her line. I think it’s been about a year since I’ve worn this beauty. This and Antonia’s Flowers Tiempe Passate are my two favorite salty perfumes…
Robin, hope the surgery goes well! Sending healing thoughts!
Thank you SmokeyToes!
I love Figue Amere! It’s one of my favorite MH’s too.
I was so disappointed to see it was discontinued.
I’m wearing the last of a sample of Apple Brandy By Kilian.
I do like that one. Wouldn’t pay the price for it, but I like it.
Ciao!
Robin, sending you healing thoughts!
31 RC today, my decant is almost empty. Anyone have any 31RC to spare that would be open for a swap?
Tea is Rose d’Himalaya
I have the EdP I can send you a decant?
Thank you!
N° 5 sensual elixir compliments of a lovely NSTer – thank you!!
Best wishes Robin to your family.
Thanks flopper!
House twins
Hi all! Robin, I hope everything goes well.
I’m in Corpse Reviver, which I adore as much as I thought I would. It does start a little like a Hersey’s Kiss but once those fruity notes came in, I was lost. I wish it had a bit more sillage but maybe I can’t get much because the sample atomizer isn’t quite doing the job.
Thanks!
I am looking forward to a 2nd try of CR.
Do report back, if you think to!
I’m in a dab of MFK Cologne Pour Le Soir in preparation for a dental appointment today. Just a filling, but I’m still a little tense. ?
You smell great, hope all goes well.
Hope it’s a fast appointment !
Good luck! My dentist has one of those giant screens you can watch while she works on you and I’ve found it really does help a lot. Hope it goes by quickly!
Mine does, too! Fixer-Upper is a good distraction.
I was absolutely wiped out — solely from stress/tension, I think, because it didn’t really hurt — last night after my dentist appt (2 fillings removed, 1 replaced, 1 temporary crown).
Solved that problem with plenty of ice cream and an episode of The Crown 🙂
Hope yours goes quickly!
Sounds like a nice treat! I’ve been bingeing on season 3 of The Crown. It was a little jolting that they switched actresses for the queen and princess Margaret, but I do love both actresses.
Yes, they have done a great job on casting both sets.
Oh, you had a lot of work for one appointment! Yuck to multiple procedures, but glad that phase is over for you.
Hope it’s over quickly!
Even minor dental things are never fun. Good luck!
Hope is over by now. You smell great!
I hope it went well! Tension is tiring- maybe a nap is in order ?
You smell wonderful.
Hope that all is well now, post-dentist visit.
Hope it all went well and fast.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes! The appointment went okay and was over in a bit more than an hour. Whew!
Best wishes Robin! I hope everything goes as planned.
My SOTD is Sweet Redemption. My favourite BK.
Tea was Grand goût russe from DF.
Thank you austenfan!
Naomi Goodsir Or du Sérail for me today. Yesterday I tried side by side the 4160 Tuesdays kickstarter project from earlier this year, Clouds and Clouds Illusion. The first is the natural version, the second the synthetic version. I ordered the synthetic one because it was much cheaper and the perfumer said she it was her personal goal to demonstrate that the synthetic version can smell as good as the natural. Well, I regret only ordering a 9ml spray of the natural version as it is far better than the synthetic version on me. Sigh. Live and learn.
Oh that’s a funny twist!
You smell great!
I would have never thought that all-natural version would be better! But maybe it’s just me: I rarely like natural perfumes.
Normally I don’t prefer all natural perfumes either. But it may be that just the key expensive ingredients are natural, rather than the entire perfume, so that would explain the better smell and performance.
Oh gosh.
Yeah, it reminded me that I should buy fewer bottles and higher quality – go for the best.
Hello all! I have missed you while traveling – had a wonderful time in Beijing and Seoul, where I bought some wonderfully fragrant tea and eked out perfume from the handful of samples I brought. (Why do the samples you bring always end up being the ones you don’t want, though?) Anyway now I’m back, allllmost over the jet lag, and wearing Lustre.
Take care of your family and yourself, dear Robin! We’ll all still be here even if you miss a few days.
I’ve not been to Beijing, but to Seoul, and really loved it there! Such a beautiful and interesting city, and a wonderful subway system. Also the people were incredibly nice and helpful.
OMG yes, the subway was so fantastic!
Thank you!
Sounds like a great trip — what kind(s) of tea did you get?
And it is true, whatever I think to bring does not turn out to be what I *should* have brought.
We got some lovely Anxi tieguanyin, and some longjing – those were the main ones but a few others also that I don’t know the name of. This was the first time we tried buying tea at a tea market, and it’s a lovely process where you sit and taste and talk. My husband speaks better Chinese than me so I think he learned quite a lot about all the teas, while I understood about 20% and just sipped and smiled.
Oh, that sounds so fun!
I always seem to bring the wrong scents with me on a trip too (except Hawaii, where I only wear Kai and Monyette Paris).
Sounds fabulous!
Your trip looked fabulous!
So glad to hear you had a wonderful time!
Instagram just remind me of a two day trip to Austin, where I brought a whopping 7 perfumes. You just never know! Luckily we drove so I didn’t have to stick to samples.
I’d love to hear where you shopped, since an Austin trip may be in my future.
Welcome back!
Your trip sounds fantastic and good to see you here again.
I”m commando so far, and undecided about what my day will include. With this week’s project in mind, when I visited Sephora on the weekend, I tried several Nest fragrances, but didn’t buy one. They have cute little roller-ball versions of several, but didn’t have one of the scent I liked the most, which was Midnight Fleur. Does anyone have a favourite among the Nest offerings? (I also like several of their candles, and have bought them as gifts, though don’t have any for myself.)
I used to really like Citron, but I believe they discontinued it.
Midnight Fleur is the Nest perfume that I have liked the most, too. Most of the other scents I have sniffed were too “candle-like” for my taste, though.
Adding my wishes for a uneventful surgery for your loved one Robin. I hope the recovery is quick and painless!
I went with Natori, Natori today because I am wearing a deep fuchsia shirt. Plus, partial credit for the N.
Ah, wouldn’t have thought of Natori for Friday. I have a mini floating around somewhere… And nice color match!
Thanks E! Enjoy your day off!
I’ll wear Natori too I think.
Hopefully today is less busy than yesterday!
Thanks dear. I wish that would happen but like so many people out there, I am underpaid for the level of work that I am doing and worked to death. I have 5- 6 years remaining and wishing my life away so it will come faster.
I Know your job is very demanding. I don’t want you to have to wish your life away , but I totally get it.
Plum note twins today!
I just spilled my Le Labo Lys 41 sample on the floor of my cubicle (cap was loose – maybe from banging around in my work tote) …so guess what I’m wearing? Fortunately there’s still a bit left and also fortunately, I like it very much. Unfortunately, we’re kinda/sorta scent free. Not today!
Robin: may the surgery go well and healing be fast for your family member. ♥
Thank you! And sorry about your Lys, but that is a funny way to skirt the no fragrance policy 🙂
Another day off, so am wearing a nice amount of Papillon Anubis, which is just so good to me.
I also have a bit of Blackbird Targa on my hand to jog my memory of how it smells.
Best wishes for a smooth surgery and recovery for your family, Robin! I’m hoping more ice cream is in the picture to balance out the stress.
There is ALWAYS more ice cream in the picture 😉
Ugh, not sure how my post ended up here ? But you do smell great! That perfume changed eased me into liking lily. Funny about the hazmat spill ?
I managed to talk myself out of a candle run. BBW had a buy 2 get 2 free candle sale. Had a pesky bill that just popped up and decided to pay that in full instead. I am sure that BBW will have another sale like that before Christmas. Spending the morning in vintage BaV but accompanying my mom to her MRI of her knee. I am tempted to wear Chanel Cuir de Russie but don’t think that will go over well so Apres L’ondee will have to do but will wear Cuir de Russie after that Apres L’ondee fades. Haven’t taken a whiff of Les Annees 25 BIS yet.
I went for the BBW sale also, I bought Land of Sweets, Flannel and Fresh Balsam. For Fresh Balsam, I bought two.
Like you, I am sure there’ll be another sale before Christmas 🙂
I really like the Fresh Balsam but I am happy that there is still some sort of deal on the candles though.
Poor Robin! I hope you recover tout de suite. We need a National Dental Recovery Day. Personally, I don’t think I’m a highly stressed person, but throw “dentist” into the mix and I’m done. ?
I’m in ELDO Fils de Dieu fo a day of cleaning out my van. We won’t talk about the frozen toilet. My life is so dang GLAMOROUS! ?
But is it perhaps easier to clean a frozen toilet…?
Frozen toilet? Yikes.
I nearly wore this today, maybe i will do tomorrow. A frozen toilet …oh my….
I just was reading along and had a sudden vision of you wearing a scent called Frozen Toilet, and cringed!
So how does one go about cleaning a frozen toilet?
National Dental Recovery Day! There probably already is one, I must check.
I really made a concerted effort to relax my shoulders, but my back and neck tell me I did not do well enough.
Frozen toilet!
Chanel No 19 Poudre is my SOTD, and I am on my second cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
Lovely on both fronts.
I adore 19 Poudre but the staying power on me is too little time for such a beautiful fragrance. I want more more more!
Smelling great, Barqs!
You smell super good!
Happy Birthday to you !!!
I meant this for perfumelover67 .
DSH Cimabue while I try to battle an approaching cold. We finally got the massive dump of snow we were waiting on this weekend, and my shoulder is still sore from shoveling it. Need to work out more.
Wishing your family luck, Robin!
I hope the cold doesn’t come to much. Snow shovelling – it’s not a thing here and I can’t imagine it’s much fun!
Hope your cold doesn’t get too bad.
Snow and then a cold, that is not fair!
Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur today. I have been holding off wearing until it got cold and in the sparse but fiercely devoted “love it” camp for this one. Hoping things go well for your family member.
I only tried MdO once but I really liked it. I need to test it more but I’ll join you!
I keep forgetting to sniff that one! Too many other scented distractions, I guess.
House twins today, Robin, I’m wearing Kyoto. Hope the week goes smoothly for you and yours.
My fear of dentists and dislike of teeth and teeth stuff is already documented here, and I have an ever pressing dental situation that I have to get checked out soon. All the dental discussion keeps reminding me….I wish they could start anesthesia when the car pulls into the parking lot and I stayed unconscious until the bill is paid. That’s full sedation dentistry I could get behind!
?
Ahaha, me too! Every time I go to the dentist I need something for the next visit – filling, crown, etc, etc.
You can explain to your dentist and if you find a good one, they’ll prescribe Xanax or whatever they call it now, and it truly helps. The only drawback is that someone has to take you and then drive you home afterward. I absolutely have to do this due to my extreme anxiety about dentist visits (caused I think by having my front teeth knocked out when I was about 10 and my little brother ran his bicycle into mine–yes it was all his fault!).
I have 5 more fillings to get replaced! So yes, just going under and waking up to have them all done, I could get behind that.
Robin, sending healing thoughts to the family member having surgery!
SOTD = Mad et Len Petits Papiers
Woody, resinous Amber patchouli. ???
In other news, I usually have lunch once a week at Urban Space where food vendors have semi-permanent stalls and there are tables for four ( down with benches) or places where you can stand up and eat. I will only eat here if I can get here early. Today, I saw a woman sitting by herself and I asked how many people she’s expecting. One. So I sat down. When her friend came, she goes “We have to share a table.” in a snippy tone. Of course I had to listen to their conversation. Apparently, she is supposedly gluten free and her friend was concerned when she came back with high gluten food “Don’t worry about it, I have been eating gluten the past few weeks, what’s another meal?” Their topic of conversation was preparing for some sales pitch which gluten-free fake was going to deliver tomorrow. Good luck. Oh, and I decided to just stay here to take up space while they’re chatting away! ? You better believe I can be bitchy as well.
YOU smell great!!
I would feel bad taking an entire table for two people if others were eating standing up. What’s the big deal? I know it can be awkward but so what? Honestly, they act like toddlers fighting over a toy.
Ha! I love that you stayed!
Don’t you just hate snooty bitches. I would have stayed too, just to irritate them more. 🙂 You smell great.
Ha – good for you. Take up some space and smell wonderful!
In this sort of situation I would pretend I was on my cellphone on a highly suspect call… “Did they get past customs okay? Do you know how much they brought? Are they going to need some kind of protection while they’re here?” They’d probably shut up and try to listen in on your conversation! 🙂
LOL! Reminds me of a joke between my husband and me, whenever we are traveling separately, we call each other after getting through customs and say, I’ve made it past enemy lines.
Hee-hee! Feels like that sometimes doesn’t it!
Ha!!!!
Your last sentence literally made me lol.?
Your SOTD sounds marvelous! Your lunchtime companions, not so much.
Thank you!
I’m sampling Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale this morning. I got a 3-sample set in the Portland Sniffa swap. Ciel is nice, it’s honeysuckle and other fruits, but isn’t setting my world on fire. Going in the pile for the next swapmeet.
I did not adore any of them but they were all so well done that I was surprised they didn’t make it.
The only “N” I have is No. 19 Poudre, so I went with it!
Although, if it counts, someone at work has bathed in Narcisco Rodriguez…
The big question is whether you enjoy the Narcisco Rodriguez lol. I’m guessing even if you did her being bathed in it is a bit much.
You smell great though! I wore that one this weekend.
nasomatto black afghano that I rediscovered in the great unpacking.
Do you still like it?
I do!
Another day of Mohur, decant almost gone.
My contribution to the dentist talk – I was supposed to be at the dentist yesterday but completely, entirely, forgot, despite being there last week with the kids and saying “see you next week etc.”, despite calendar and email reminders – I plain forgot, no excuse. The slightly annoyed receptionist rescheduled me for February. I was gnashing my teeth over my memory failure when my teenage daughter said: “Do you like getting your teeth cleaned?”
Well, no.
Daughter: “So you forgot. What’s the big deal?”
I couldn’t get across to the teen how not remembering a trivial thing like the dentist puts my entire carefully scheduled and coordinated weekly plan on edge and is thus a very bad thing… 🙂
Yikes! My dentist charges for missed appointments. I hope that you’re back on track and you smell lovely!
Thanks and yes, they now do charge but it’s a pretty humane fee of $25 (for a missed cleaning, anyway). But the dentist and I are friendly, so I’m also embarrassed by that.
I understand how such things can throw you off. You smell marvelous at least.
I have done that with doctor appointments!
I’d already decided on Neela Vermeire’s Trayee before I realised it fitted with the theme. It’s one of my favourites, and wearing a favourite always gives me a bit of added confidence. I’m talking to a recruitment agency today to see what they can do to assist with job hunting. One yesterday, another one tomorrow, it’s keeping me busy!
Trayee is stunning, I hope it will help!
Good luck with the job hunting. Hope the recruiters can help!
Perfect scent choice. Good luck on the job hunt!
Best of luck with job hunting!
Adding more best wishes and positive healing vibes for your family member, Robin.
Inspired by Lucasai’s lyrical review, I surfed The Sample Sea hoping to find Nishane’s Ani…but alas, to no avail. Maybe I sent it to someone to try and so it goes, not meant to happen today! I did bump into several things I want to try sooner rather than later, so today it’s gonna be Bortnikoff’s L’Heure Exquise. That also reminded me I haven’t worn regular old Heure Exquise in ages!
I tested Ani several times. At first I loved it, but like all of the Nishanes, after a while an aromachemical background note started bothering me.
I remember that you loved it! I did start to wonder if the same sort of thing happened to me and I just didn’t want to save it for further testing. It’s the only Nishane I’ve tried since I tend to shy away from brands that launch a lot of fragrances all at once.
Well I was on a Chanel kick all weekend thanks to last week. L’eau on Saturday, No. 19 Poudre on Sunday, and Paris- Deauville yesterday. Good stuff!
Will finish off the last dregs of a Bombay Bling sample for today.
Wanted to mention that I ate passionfruit for the first time Sunday and that scent is just juicy deliciousness. I feel like I need any and all scents with passionfruit now. I know I’ve sniffed and tried some in the past but had never sniffed the actual fruit. Yummmm.
Did you try Saturday by Arielle Shoshana? It has the passion fruit note you’re looking for.
A week of Chanel sounds like a good week!
I have not yet, but I just ordered a sample of Saturday as well as Sunday! I’ve been wanting to try both forever and your comment reminded me to just do it! Enabler (albeit just for samples) pin!
I hope you like them Kelly! How is your new job and your foot for that matter?
My foot is all better. A little still around that toe but otherwise good I think. I haven’t started the job yet- last week did the background check and drug screening. They called today and said I start the 2nd! Yay!
Oh, passionfruit is SO delicious! If you find a place that makes sorbetto from it, enjoy.
SOTD was Felanilla, which definitly should wear more often. Made kimchi soup with pork and tofu for dinner. The boyfriend was delighted. Really good on a wet and cold day, and so easy to make. Must make more kimchi soon.
I loooooove kimchi soup! Well, I love all Korean, but especially the soups when it’s cold!
You smell fabulous!
Sampling Cuir Velours from Naomi Goodsir which is nice but probably not full bottle worthy
Late check-in! 🙂
Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere is working it’s magic today…..
Smelling great!
Late for me too, Jada. Eau Premiere is so good!
That’s a beautiful tea set for today, Robin. Best wishes to your family member undergoing surgery.
SOTD = Rihanna Rogue EdP. It’s nice, but nothing at all like Bottega Veneta EdP. I’d call it a lightly sweet vanilla suede with plum topnotes. No patch in it that I can smell. It has also become a skin scent after about 5 hours, where as the BV lasts until I shower the next day.
I’m thankful for this mini review. So much has been made about it smelling like BV, and I’ve stopped myself from blind buying so many times because I just didn’t quite believe it.. BV is perfection imo.
I agree!
I’ve never found a cheaper scent yet that smells as good as the more expensive one.
I’d call the Rogue a solid cheap thrill, though. It’s easily as good as the Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights, IMO.
I am finally getting a teeny bit of patchouli in the far drydown. I’d still go with my description of vanilla suede.
I really like the Fancy Nights bottle better too.
Thank you!
I had a very early appointment for an echocardiogram today. After I got home, I took advantage of an incredibly dreary day, and slept the morning away. I’m wearing many samples as my sotd, because when I’m home I just randomly spray. One of them is Nest Black Tulip, but I think the MJ Love so sweet ate it up.
Oh, and the best of luck to your family member, Robin!
Thank you, and congrats on sleeping the morning away, that sounds like just what to do after an early medical procedure.
I hope your appointment was a routine checkup. It’s been rain and drizzle with cloudy skies here the last few days. Good weather for snoozing.
I have to have the echo about once a year, because of cardio myopothy, I’m hoping for an improvement from the last one.
It was a good day to sleep.? Dreary here too. Hope all was good with your echo!
Thanks. I seriously just want to sleep until spring.
Hope all went well with your test! I love spraying random things when I’m hanging out at home.
I know! It’s when I get to wear the stuff I wouldn’t normally, and no real commitment for the day.
I hope that your appointment went well. Good for you for relaxing after that!
Thanks jalapeno, it’s definitely been a lazy day! But I really needed it.
Hope the results of the echocardiogram will be good, Lillyjo. Wearing a lot of samples is fun.
Thanks Aurora. I’ve been trying to figure out our time difference, are you just starting your Wednesday?
I wound up wearing Ex Nihilo Amber Sky today, courtesy of the generous Hajusuuri. This brand hadn’t come on my radar until just now; she sent me the sample along with my split order,. which arrived last week, and then I saw an array of possibly 80 or were there 1000 of them (!) at Saks yesterday and I was gobsmacked. Holy cow! I like it a lot, but don’t want to buy any of it. The amber seems to be dominated by what I can only call a “petroleum” aura, which corresponds to absolutely nothing listed in the notes, so I can’t explain it. It’s one of those scents that’s fascinating but, to my mind, basically unwearable. I’m very glad to try it though and look forward to sampling more of theirs in the future.
I’ve tried several of the Ex Nihilos and couldn’t find one of them to love. They are all meh, no longevity, or unpleasant on me. Oh well, money saved!
Fleur de Peau for a day of sitting in meetings. Came home and put together two pans of enchiladas for taco Tuesday. Close enough, lol.
Yuk to the meetings yay to enchiladas!
Yum for enchiladas!
You smell great.
Also courtesy of hajusuuri (Thank you!), I’m sampling Ginger Piccante. I like it a lot. 🙂
That could be a really good scent for Thanksgiving… ?
I must have been thinking ahead to the holidays when I got that bunch of Demeter samples. I got mulled cider, gingerbread, and Christmas Tree, among others. I put on Demeter Honeysuckle very late on the night of the 19th. I remember thinking, “That doesn’t smell much like honeysuckle,” and then conking out.
