The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2019 11 Comments

In case you happen to have a hefty gift certificate to Buly 1803 and can't decide what to do with it, here's La Douzaine Parfumée, a discovery set with twelve 10 ml sprays: "All the chords are easily harmonised together or individually impregnated directly on your body. Cheeks, neck, hair and beard are soaked in the essence of your choice. From the first twelve hours until noon to another ones until midnight, there will always be a scent surrounding to impress you. The Scented Dozen is a rhythmic and Parisian prelude to your next olfactory strolls." €167.

I think I would have used a different word than ‘impregnated.’ Maybe it’s a translation thing?

Even “soaked in the essence” is not so great. I assume it is translation too, but who knows.

Yeah, it’s a direct translation of impregné in French.

But does impregné, in relation to a fragrance, sound “normal”?

Yes, it is like soaked into the skin, becomes part of the skin – it works okay in French because it has nothing to do with pregnancy.

Yikes, it’s way too close to Halloween to have PR spiels like this- I do not want anything to impregnate directly on my body- sounds like a new SciFi horror series pitch. Paging Guillermo del Toro, got a new idea for you!

The prices they charge & they can’t even afford a decent translator – looks like they used google translate! Presume they pay for a copy writer & this ad copy is representing your company so at least spend some cash translating it properly !

When reading the description of the travel set, my inner 13 year old had to giggle. Couldn’t they have found someone to double check the wording?
