It's Tuesday, SWINTON’s birthday and Guy Fawkes Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am sure I will find my decant of Etat Libre d'Orange Like This any minute now, because I know I saw it just recently. Tea at the moment is Mariage Frères Chandernagor. (And a quick PSA: a family member is having surgery this week, so I may disappear for even longer stretches of time than usual. I should still manage to put up a scent of the day post every day, but if not, apologies in advance. Never mind — this just got rescheduled for later in the month.)
Reminder: 11/8 will be Art House / Stunt Perfume Friday...wear a fragrance that you find weird and wonderful but that might not be appreciated by anyone but another perfumista. Bonus points if you've ever received a spontaneous negative response or odd question and still wear it! Suggested by HemlockSillage.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Pito kettle by Alessi ("...the only object that Frank Gehry designed in his long career. An architect known for his outstanding buildings with a highly innovative formal language, Gehry created a sculptural and extraordinary object that is PITO. The kettle's body is made of stainless steel 18/10 and it has a cylindrical shape, similar to that of a wave; the handle and the melodic top are made of mahogany and look like two fishes darting out of water.") is around $520.
Wearing La Fumee, Miller Harris for Guy Fawkes day.
Great pick, and great avatar as always!
Thanks Robin, and I hope everything goes well with the surgery today.
Ha, see my correction above — as soon as my bag was packed they rescheduled it.
Yum- you smell amazing!
Guy Fawkes used to be a big event when I was growing up in NZ but last night I didn’t hear or see a single firework. There is a move to ban private fireworks sales and have only public displays…based on safety and fire risk ( it can be quite dry in some parts in November )
You smell great, and I love today’s avatar, though I love all yours. You should consider keeping an archive of them and link to it for us. I’d love to be able to look back at some of yours.
Just click on my username, I’ve posted them in my Gravatar gallery.?
Ha, well what do you know! I’ve clicked on your username but not clicked on the Gravatar gallery. Thanks!
Hi all! Robin, I hope everything goes well today.
In Hyacinth and a Mechanic, which I realized too late would have been an even better scent for my Tin Man costume. I had a coworker said I smelled like a sneeze while I was wearing it. Not sure what she meant but I’ve heard worse!
That’s so weird. What does a sneeze even smell like?
Our daughter used to have a fit when her dad sneezed. We had no idea what she meant ?♀️
Maybe a big sneeze could be a bit metallic smelling, like a bleeding nose can be metallic -blood like?
Beats me! Maybe it’s the metallic note?
Thank you!! And I would have asked for an explanation, because that’s so interesting.
Hope the surgery goes smoothly, Robin.
Wearing Coco Noir today.
Thank you! It is actually tomorrow, today is travel 🙂
Nothing gimmicky for me–I’m in the ever lovely Sacrebleu
🙂
I adore Sacrebleu!
Sending good thoughts to you and yours this week, Robin.
I am wearing CB:IHP Wild Hunt. I am nit sure this is unusual enough for a stunt, but I am probably a bad judge of that since I would be perfectly happy to smell like latex paint.
Thank you, and thanks for the latex paint laugh!
For the CP
“OMG, you smell like a man! Why?”
Response from my friend when we are at the farmers market and she leaned in too close for a whiff of my SOTD Terre d”Hermes
Chai tea, homemade everyday by my FIL until he leaves.
Ha! I love Terre d’ Hermes and don’t think it leans necessarily masculine.
Chai tea twins, but mine is from that big box coffee place.?
I agree!
When I explained to her, well I think its smells fresh, her response was “I am not convinced! ”
Maybe I remind her of an old boyfriend.
Ha! I got the same response one day when I wore MFK Grand Soir. I had to check myself for chin and chest hair..!
Lol. This actually made me chuckle. Thanks.?
When I was growing up, I was extremely picky eater (still kind of am?), my dad used to always say, “eat it, it’ll put hair on your chest!”
Yes, mine too, especially for things like spinach!
My dad too!
I never understood that phrase..
My dad used to say that too, talking about the crusts on my bread/sandwiches/toast. I don’t know why he thought that was encouraging.
That’s hard to believe, because I find Grand Soir very femme fatale-ish!
I love that… hilarious.
LOL. I was at duty-free and wanted to try the Eau fresh version but ended up accidentally spraying myself with the original. I had to femme it up and my fingers landed on Mandarin Basilic!
Ah, so you find it masculine leaning also.
The cheese stands alone.
Why? Why? Why? I find this hilarious. Reminds me of a very young lass at the department store perfume counter, who thought she shouldn’t let me sniff a cologne because colognes are for men.
Best wishes to your family member Robin!
Had a craving for Britney Spears Believe, so I’m projecting a really nice praline and hippie patchouli this morning. This is my favorite Britney perfume that I’ve tried so far….
Anybody else crave perfumes, almost like a food craving? 🙂
Me! Me!
I have frequent cravings..Perfumes, food and shopping in thrift stores.
Yes! And I think that way, “I’m hungry for No5 today” lol.
Thank you!
I’m in my second L’Artisan of the week, and one of my favorites, Timbuktu.
Yum.
You smell great!
Robin, by a staggering coincidence, I was fishing around for a sample to wear and the first thing I pulled from the bowl was Like That, which of course I put on. I am a fan of SWINTON and of ELdO, but I can live without this: I’ve almost drained the vial over time, assuming it would grow on me, and it never has.
I can probably live without it too!
But I do like it, plus I like the idea of it and I like the idea of Tilda Swinton, if that makes sense.
I would probably say the same of Rossy de Palma’s ELdO scent.
Same here. But it is nice to have a sample.
Was too busy at work yesterday to post, but wore Eau Premiere and got a “you smell good” right away in the morning, which is always a nice way to start the day.
Today I’m in VCA Bois d’Iris, many sprays because I love it. When my decant is gone I will definitely be buying a bottle.
I’m off work now til Friday and will spend it writing a paper. This is the final week of my research writing class and the final project is an 8-10 page paper.? It’s been a lifetime, or 3, if you consider the fact that I’ve had 3 kids in the time since I last wrote a paper that long. I love doing research, but writing? Not so much. I’d like to finish strong since I have a good grade going. Then a break from classes til January. Woo hoo.
I hope the surgery goes well for your family member, Robin. Certainly no need to apologize in my opinion. Perfume can wait, family is everything.☺️
Congrats on nearing the finish line (for now)!!! ?♀️?♀️ I feel you- we had to write an 11-15 page paper EVERY WEEK!!! I’m still undecided if I’m continuing with that program…
I always think wearing No 5 (edt) is going to get negative responses, but it’s oddly one of my more complimented perfumes!
Thanks! 11-15 pages every week would have just about killed me! I am actually really loving this program, but will be happy for the little break with the holidays and life stuff going on.
I really like Eau Premiere, even though I’m not a Chanel No. 5 gal. My sister is…so I scored the Eau off her when she didn’t love it as much. Let me make a decant. Must find that thing…its here somewhere.
I love writing, but I find it terribly painful. Does that even make sense? (But doing the research? Love it and often find it hard to stop….)
Yes! I know exactly what you mean about writing. It takes me awhile to formulate the ideas in my head and then putting them on paper is not always a seamless transition from thought to word.
I love the research part too, and the internet has been a real game changer. Any one else remember the days of card catalogs and microfiche?
Yes you bet, and in the olden olden days I had to take the heavy bound journals down the elevator to the library basement to begin making photocopies, feeding in my dime per page, and coming out with the worst smeary light gray copies. Using the electronic resources now to download journal articles is absolutely the bee’s knees!
Microfiche always made me feel a bit queasy and sea sick, ugh.
Interloans were the other big issue living down here…waiting 8 weeks for a thesis or book to arrive from an American library.
One of my favorite papers in college was a little pass/fail thing that was basically teaching you how to use the 30 or so libraries on campus. Your paper was not on the topic, it was on your research of the topic. You had to do a big bibliography from a variety of libraries and sources, including original. I loved it.
VC&A is available at fragrancenet for cheap ….
enabler
I am going to look..I have warmed up to California Reverie
Sending best wishes to your family, Robin.
SOTD is the thoroughly un-weird Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Nosy Be.
Ha, I wasn’t expecting to have a perfume twin today. We smell gorgeous.
Thank you! The surgery was just rescheduled so we all need a spa day to settle down 😉
Yeah, that switch can cause whiplash!
It is maddening, I feel like we’d done half the stress and now we have to do it over!
I love the opening of Like This, dry down is too much. It’s the immortelle.
By Rosie Jane Leila Lou before Pilates.
Best wishes Robin.
speaking of immortelle..How are you liking Le Mat?
It’s just not working on my skin. The dusky rose is great, though. If you’d like my decant, it’s a 3ml from TPC, I’ll be happy to send to you. I am going to try Rituale next. Thank you for asking. ?
Thank you!
Cons: Needing lots of hot coffee. Trying to avoid icy patches on the roads. Very disgruntled with the weather. Hoping no one ticks me off today because I just might give them the what for! The state park here in town got flooded out, so no place close to access electricity for my heater. ?
Pros: I’m in the lovely Casmir from a generous NSTer. A warm bagel is in my belly. Drinking lots of hot coffee. My four legged friend is undeterred in her search for fun, and is feeling quite frisky today. Off until Friday. Thinking about heading down to Fargo for some shopping.
Also, looking forward to my decant of Winter Palace. The name is quite appropriate for the temps here. Even locals are dismayed by such cold temps so early in the season. The benchmark number here seems to -40F. As long as temps are above that, it’s just “Chilly.” ?
As I sit on the bus in NYC in mid 50s temps, laughing at people with their fur-rimmed hoods up. Seriously?
Crazy crazy crazy weather. NEVER thought it would be this cold, this early. 50’s? Yes please! 50-70F is my happy place. I’m also having fur-rimmed hood envy. I need one of those…?
It wasn’t until I got a jacket with a fur-trimmed hood that I realized how much warmer it kept my face and stopped my eyes from watering. It was like night and day.
Just now read the post and comments. I’m a “post first, read after” kind of poster. Robin, hope things go well with your family member’s surgery today, and that the recovery is short and painless!
It was rescheduled, but thanks — now you don’t have to say that again 2 weeks from now 🙂
Duly noted!
Nice to know that I am in good company with the “post first, read later” MO.
Femininite du Bois from the sample bowl. Barely enough spritzes left but I can get a nice whiff.
Seeing Zombieland: Double Tap today for our Tuesday movie. It’s been awhile, since so few movies have been of interest. Then a stop at Trader Joe’s and then my knitting group tonight. I only have one thing to turn in….feeling kind of guilty.
Seem to have hit a plateau on the weight loss front. I haven’t been horrible, but neither have I been as focused. Two weeks w/o loss….we will see what happens tomorrow….my guess is flat again. Gotta shake things up.
Your day sounds fun! Are there knitting “assignments” for your group?
Also, I think weight loss plateau is fairly normal (?)- I think your body notices the loss causing your metabolism to slow down…
They want us to do a men’s hat each month and another project at least. I’ve only finished a scarf.
Yeah…I need to shake things up…which likely means different exercise. Darn it.
Again I am pretty much opposite the CP because I had the urge for ylang ylang today after using my Klorane ylang ylang shampoo. I went for the richest ylang ylang I have, Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Nosy Be. I wish it came in a travel spray.
Yay twin! I also wish it came in a travel spray. I thought (very) briefly about doing a split but was feeling lazy. It doesn’t really register as ylang to me, but more a woody vanilla, and one of the very few vanilla-centric perfumes I enjoy.
We do smell wonderful ?
Wow, it’s ylang ylang overdose to me in the best way! And it smells extraordinarily like my shampoo. I have also thought of a bottle split but am too lazy to go for it.
Also, I just got to remembering I have a bottle of discontinued Guerlain AA Ylang & Vanille that might be really similar to the Perris. I’ll have to do a side by side comparison. Have you tried that one?
I haven’t tried that AA, but do want to try that shampoo now!
What a coincidence: I craved that Perris Monte Carlo and bought a Klorane Ylang hairspray instead!! It makes my hair super greasy, so not a very good ‘substitute’…. congrats on your bottle!!
Yikes, sorry about the hair spray. And I wish I had a bottle but have a small decent from a generous NSTer.
Also, have you tried Lavande Velours yet? I’m hoping it’s not terribly disappointing after I talked it up ?
It actually should be arriving today, so I’ll either try it tonight or tomorrow. That split was such a bargain that it’s no great loss if I don’t like it.
True dat, especially for something discontinued and HTF at a decent price.
I adore that scent too!
It’s really lovely, isn’t it!
Best wishes for the family member’s surgery, Robin <3
Thank you, it got rescheduled but the good wishes are appreciated anyway. Hope you are well!
Scent at bedtime last night: Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. I’ve liked it when I’ve tried it before, but last night I wasn’t terribly into it. It wasn’t bothering me to the point that I got up.
Scent this morning: Un Jardin sur le Toit. I seem to be getting some vegetable garden in there, but basically I like it. I sprayed it on because I thought my folks had left the house to go vote, but they’re still hanging around. Go vote, parental units, go vote!
LOL — hopefully they have voted by now!
I was falling asleep, but they must have left shortly after I told them to go vote. Mom had her “I voted today” sticker on her blouse the next time I saw her.
? Look at you, telling your parents to go vote!
It was always Mom who was very insistent I do my civic duty and vote, so I got in the habit from her example. The districts in Pennsylvania were very gerrymandered for a while, but they’re drawn more evenly now.
Anyway, Mom and Dad and I all voted today. 🙂
After I read reviews of Un Jardin sur le Toit, I felt like I was getting some of the fruity/floral aspects of the fragrance, too. But I can see how “cut grass,” “basil,” and “compost” notes would give me associations with vegetables. Cut grass and basil are notable summer scents in our yard.
Scent of the evening: L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage. (Thank you, Katsura!) I like it. Dad has been sneezing this evening, but I’ll blame that on the on-and-off allergy/cold issues he’s been having lately.
I hope everything goes extremely well today for you and yours Robin.
I went with Narciso Poudree from a small decant. Besides white cube, this is probably my favorite from the line.
Thank you Petunia! I like that one too.
I’ve been price stalking a lonely clearance bottle of Poudre at my ULTA. It’s not quite the right price yet. I think it’s the second best one too.
About not-appreciated perfume: I thought I was getting a complaint about my perfume (Musc ravageur that day, it’s a lot…) when I congratulated a co-worker on his birthday the other day. He said: ‘you are so strong…’ , and I thougt ‘smelling’ would follow. But he actually meant my arm muscles ???
Haha! That’s cute.
Yay for that!
Good wishes for your week, Robin! Commando as I had a bad start to the day and didn’t want a bad association with a perfume. We’re having to cut down a 70 year old oak that has branches over a big portion of our house. The tree surgeon says it is climate change and a beetle imported from Asia. So sad.
Aww, that is sad on many levels.
I love trees and feel sad when I lose one of my favorites. We’ve lost several in the last few years as well. Mostly due to massive gypsy moth infestations a few years ago.
That is sad. There is an giant pine next to a rough track I walk on up on the hill and every storm it loses a heavy branch which falls across the track. Last week I went past and it has been chain sawed down to a 6 foot high stump and it actually brought tears to my eyes. I gave it a pat and told it it had been a good friend as I had known it for twenty years. Trees are so special
Love this.
Awww. that is so sad! I have a 100 year old oak in my back hard and another that’s approaching 100. They are such old beauties, I’d hate to lose one of mine. I have the arborist visit each year to trim and assess their health.
Oh no, RIP old oak.
That’s a shame about your old tree.
My Helicriss came yesterday. I love patchouli, but it’s hard to find a perfume where it doesn’t make me sick. It’s light and puffy but long lasting. And my favorite note of all, Frankincense. The only perfume that has gotten multiple compliments, so other people think I smell good.
How lovely!
I just received a decant in the mail. It was a little leaky, so I got some on my hands. OMG! it smells great. Five O’Clock Au Gingembre. I think I love it.
I love it too. It reminds me of Earl Grey tea and gingersnaps.
I adore gingersnaps! Must pick some up at Trader Joe’s, I think they still make the Gluten Free variety. They are pretty good with a nice heat to them!
Ooooooh, a good gingersnap is one of my favorite sweet things!
Hi all! My SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studio’s Jour Ensoleille – beautiful for cool N. CA mornings and warmer afternoon weather. This perfume evolks much of the same beauty and warmth of the original Safari by Ralph Lauren. Gotta get this morning started, after five months I hired an assistant. Gotta get my butt in gear!
Cuban Espresso – double shot
Spin class, the week’s goal is to do five.
Good luck with your spin class goal…you can do it! I find that getting out of bed bright and esrly is the hardest part when it comes to exercise. I think someone shoukd design an exercise motivatir bed duvet that is time preset programmed to start feeling damp and cold to prevent snuggling up in the morning.
Brilliant idea!
That is hysterical.
I went for a short jog this morning , I am not good at sticking with a routine these days, especially when my FIL is here and I have a pot of hot chai tea waiting for me
Oh, I’d be sorely tempted to stay at home with a pot of chai tea! How does he make his??
I have no idea..
He grinds his own spices and I am not sure what it is or the ratio.
He also makes it with fresh ginger..
He is a chemist, so the one time I was observing he turned and said to me “this is the right time to add the cinnamon because at this temperature it will release its natural oils”
Oh, now I am SO intrigued! Have you ever discussed perfumery?
no, not yet 🙂
Oh Inhad my eye on that one!! You smell fabulous. (I know Santa will be good to me ). It sounds like you have a terrific plan. There’s no way to fail when you start off with a double Cuban espresso!
I am in DSH’s Oeillets Rouges, always a favorite.
I smelled an iris perfume in the halls this morning, maybe VCA Bois d’Iris, but more likely Prada Infusion d’Iris… just nice powdery iris over a woody base – it was very brief, didn’t get a really good sniff.
Robin, hope you and your family have a good result from the surgery.
Thank you Meredifay!
And now nice to smell iris in the wild.
I’m not doing the CP today because yesterday I received my Memo discovery set in the mail. These are perhaps the most beautifully packaged samples I have ever seen with the black and gold bottle designs on the covers of the little folders. I’m trying African leather this morning and like it a lot, but perhaps not quite as much as French leather (with rose) which I tried last night. Looking forward to going to the opera “Saul” tonight by Handel (really it’s an oratorio but it’s being given a very avant-garde performance that has earned rave reviews). It’s a rarely done work and exciting to get to see it. I do have a couple of candidates for the CP for later this week. Robin, I join others in hoping things go well on your loved one’s surgery. The techniques seem to have improved so much especially for dealing with pain and nausea that I think you can be optimistic about it.
I enjoy your IG posts. The packaging was beautiful!
Thank you Calypso! Enjoy your discovery set. Memo really does do lovely packaging.
Best wishes to you and your family, Robin.
I am wfh and happily surrounded by fumes from the Tadine candle, milky mug of PG Tips, and AS Sunday which roasty nutty matcha notes are soooo comfy- love at first sniff!
Thank you! I will be in my AS Sunday later today 🙂
Hello everyone!
1) Recovering at 80% from a bad head cold (not flu, thank goodness). The nonsense with our database migration is slowy- S L O W L Y- going away but still there.
2) Am in a combo of comfort scents: Carol’s Daughter Angel Food Cake body butter and Petals/Heliotrope fragrance from Beautypie.
My kids have head colds too..
We had to break out the humidifier.
I need to get a humdifier- that would have help so much!
Hope that 20% cleans itself up soon!
Chypre Mousse arrived yesterday ( ordered Oct 20 so not bad) so I am wearing that for the first time before heading out to the hill on a walk. I am enjoying it a lot…it is quite a busy perfume at the moment with mint and fennel, but it’s only five minutes since I sprayed. Blind Buy success . I have been away for a week and during that time many of the roses and the hawthornes have flowered in the graveyard, lots of rowan trees and also ash…the flowers on the ash have a kind of sweaty sock scent. I have a couple of samples with my CM order, but only two from my request list of forest scents
I hope the surgery goes smoothly Robin and recovery is uncomplicated.
Oh, yay! for blind buy success! CM is so polarizing, I was afraid you were going to dislike it when it arrived. ??
Ditto to all of this. I love the line but CM is not my favourite, so I’m so glad that you love it.
I blind bought their Foin Fraîchement Coupé with great success.
Robin, best wishes for the family member’s surgery.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
There’s zero reason not to love this!
In other news, NJ Transit truly is the pits. Going home, a big chunk of rush hour trains were delayed (not even sure why) and they also have not changed the digital clocks back. What’s up with that?
If anyone is interested in the 2nd set of Hermessence travel spray split, please email me. $46.48 plus exact shipping. I may need to defer getting this second set since I am planning to go to the boutique tomorrow to fulfill the first set
This morning, I tried to mail 2 bill payments in my walk to the office. All of the mailboxes (at least 8) were locked tight! I had to drop them off at my office building’s mail slot which usually means a one day delay. Ugh. These are the signs of the times.
Macy’s holiday windows are in progress. If I have time tomorrow morning, I will take pre-reveal pics!
.
I can almost smell my bottle, can’t wait!
Which boutique do you shop at?
Madison and 61st or thereabouts.
That is good to know. I thought that boutique only sold clothes.
Which did you get?
I don’t understand how NYC continues to function. You’d think the basics like public transportation would be all computerized and timely…can’t wait to see your pictures!
You would think!
Boo for lousy commutes! I will be hearing a lot of griping from Mr. Jalapeno… he has road and bridge construction to “look forward to”, starting tomorrow on his way to work. ?
Oy! Good luck to Mr. J!
Ok, if they’re going to lock the mailboxes, why don’t they just remove them? That’s annoying!
Ditto with the locking dumpsters.
My ability to post comments and replies here has gone really wonky lately; sometimes I can, sometimes not. (Perhaps The Singularity has occurred and my laptop’s AI is passing judgment on the quality of my thoughts and writing…).
Anyway, if this posts successfully, the important thing is to wish Robin safe travels and a successful surgery and quick recovery for her person.
looking forward to trying on my AS Sunday tonight!
Glad that the computer gremlins decided you could post today! ?
Thank you FearsMice, everything got postponed but I appreciate the kind words anyway! And sorry you’ve been having trouble commenting.
Here’s hoping for the best for your family member for a successful surgery! 🙂
Thank you SmokeyToes, it is now rescheduled for 2 weeks from now so we will have to do this all over again!
I am joining everyone above (and probably below as well) in sending you my best wishes ! I somehow missed this thread due to an overnight sojourn but am glad to find you in good spirits considering the inconvenience.
Was a busy morning. My mother had a dentist appointment and had to keep our year and a half old Lab puppy from chewing everything. Labs have an extended puppy hood. If your shoes aren’t high enough up, she will destroy them. She has all these toys but goes after shoes. Spent the morning in MKK but haven’t figured out a work perfume yet. Sephora let me know that I still haven’t picked my birthday sample out yet and on the 7th I can get 10% off my order. I might get a Tocca roller ball.
It is weird that nobody can come up with a dog toy that is more enticing than a shoe.
Sure they did. It’s dirty underwear ?
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay
Oh I love that.
SOTD is Trayee, one of my more meditative scents.
Good luck with the surgery, Robin, whenever it will happen.
Thank you austenfan!
Late to the party this morning, just getting going, it’s a Jungle L’Elephant day today….
All hail l’Elephant! ??
Late to the party!
I was so busy at work.
SotD was Man in black.
Are you adjusting well to the new job?
I’m sampling TF Soleil Neige today. This seems similar to Metallique to me, but I smell lemon instead of vanilla. It’s a little odd smelling, because I also get a dryer sheet smell. It’s very close to the skin. I think it would make a nice bath powder.
Oh, and I thought the tea pot was a helmut and chocolate type thingy.
That’s a lot nicer than what I thought it looked like!
? It’s a good fit for the cp.
SJP Lovely. Back in my fall daily driver. It’s pretty and comfy and reassuring.
I like it too. My cousin gave me a travel size recently and I am really enjoying it.
It’s a great scent! I will have to dig out my bottle.
Dusita La Douceur de Siam for me today.
You smelled fantastic!
Weirdo scent of today is Hyde, which i got in the swapmeet. I one had a tiny spritz and it held up until the evening shower. When the smoke has gone its quite cuddly, but i need no more than a sample.
I had the same reaction! I did find it easier over successive wears so that I could finish the 2mls.
Doing an at-work sniff-off, possibly my first: Bois d’Iris on one arm and Orchidee Vanille on the other. Both have politely left the room by lunch-time – maybe I smell the latter a bit more, being more sensitive to vanilla.
At home today (yay) writing a paper about C. diff (boo) wearing OJ Woman (yay again).
At home, paper writing twin!
You smell amazing!
Ack! C. Diff ??♀️
I bet your paper is amazing!
Olfactif shipment arrived today, so I am in two weirdo: The Zoo Carré Blanc and ELDO Une Amourette. Both have iris, though, so i’m happy.
I took the day off to frantically grade student projects, but I keep getting interrupted by emails from students who are asking for higher grades. Who is teaching them this habit? I appreciate students who advocate for themselves, but we now seem to be a society that just asks for things we haven’t earned.
Iris will give me the stamina to stand up for learning!
Wow, I can’t imagine asking for a higher grade. Earning one, yes. Asking, no.
Yes, it’s so common and gets quite obnoxious. It’s one reason I’m glad to be retired from teaching.
Is it like asking for a raise? Do they give reasons why they deserve a better grade?
I started seeing this when I was a student in college. Some students would go to the professor to challenge their grades.
I would smack my son on the back of the head if he did such a thing. I can’t hardly stand the lack of etiquette anymore.
I had to laugh at this comment!
Well, I just went and asked him if him or the other kids in his class did this. He said “no, why, is that something you did when you were in school?” Lol, I feel better now.
I hope you set him straight about the begging for better grades. ?
Ha! I’ve been teaching for 14 years, and it’s definitely on the rise. In most cases, we have a conversation, they slow down and actually read my feedback, and we move on. But the cultural shift is worrying to me. As a teacher, it makes me feel like a grade factory (and justifier) rather than an educator.
My parents would have hit the ceiling if I would have ever done something like that (beg/plead for a better grade).
Back in the day, the parents were the ones doing the asking…not kidding.
Bubblegum Chic.
Now… why on earth did I buy this sample? Tuberose is my nemesis! I betcha somebody somewhere waxed lyrical about it in such a way that I decided I could ignore the fact that this is a tuberose fragrance. As such, I can see the appeal.
Cool name?
Yep, there’s that too! Oh good grief…
Based on the name, and the fact that it contains tuberose, now I’m interested in Bubblegum Chic. Weird how that can happen.
Weird. Exactly.
Hey, I’d be happy to send you my sample! If you’re interested, you can ping me at: harukirumi at yahoo dot com.
I will email you later, probably tomorrow. Thank you for the kind offer.
Wowwww Holly, this would be a straight up blind buy for me! Isn’t it crazy how we all react so differently.
You could win a major enabler pin from me.
The name doesn’t do it….it’s the jasmine and Tuberose…
In Arielle Shoshana Sunday. Soft, comforting coconut and rice milk concoction. Love this fragrance and the 10ml travel sprays.
That one sure sold out quickly!
Oh wow! I ended up arranging to get 3 of Sunday from the Kickstarter campaign simply because I already have 3 or 4 of Saturday when it was still eponymous.
Great description!
Dang, hate to heat that’s sold out because that sounds right up my alley!
I know! Me too! Jumping up & down here!
It’s gray, foggy and quite cold here, but I’m warm in SSS Champagne de Bois. Got a late start on the perfume front after an early morning doctor’s appt. Some yucky tests are in the offing, might need to console myself with new perfume. Although I did just buy a new TV…(Merry early Christmas to me!)
Good luck with the yucky tests. I can see why you would need a new perfume ?
Ugh on the yucky tests. I hope they are over and done with quickly.
Yay for treating yourself!
BeauFort London “1805 Tonnèrre”.
Top: lime, smoke and gunpowder;
Mid: blood, brandy and sea water;
Base: amber, balsam fir and cedar.
I recall getting a sample of this from Bloom’s when BeauFort was young, and it was pretty growly stuff with gunpowder and blood notes. This is from the Discovery set (as Hajusuuri intuited yesterday) and either my tastes have broadened or they calmed it down a notch. My 7.5ml is almost gone and it might be a while before I replace it – simply because I have So Much Stuff – but it definitely suits the project. :^)
I was so enamored with pictures of that Discovery Set that I threw caution to the wind and ordered one.?
It’s been a gloomy Election Day, both weather-wise, and some emotional things coming down the pike. Going to a funeral on Thursday, for starters.
SOTD = Niki de Saint Phalle EdT, from the sample stash. Today it’s green for armor and strength.
So sorry for your loss Jalapeno. I hope tomorrow’s weather improves.
Niki is a great fit for this cp. It’s a little strange and kinda great!
Thanks Petunia. Those grey clouds were a major bummer for me today.
I’m sorry for your loss, Jalapeno. You’ve had a rough couple of weeks.
Yeah, that’s for sure. I found out that my friend’s dad had gone into hospice/palliative care the day I flew out to Colorado. The figured he had a couple of weeks left.
Oooops! Should be “They figured….”
I’m so sorry for your loss, Jalapeno. Big hug…
Thanks Holly.
I’m really sorry, Jalapeno.
Thank you Gail.
So sorry for your loss, jalapeño. I had an irrational expectation that my dad was invincible but he ended up being on home hospice for 8 days.
I also thought that my dad was invincible, until he didn’t come home from the hospital. It’s been 30 years, and it still hurts sometimes. In that sense, I understand what my friend is going thru right now.
Sorry Jalapeno! Keep up the armor.
We had a fantastic turnout in my precinct, that is my little bit of good news for the day.
Thanks Robin! We shall see what the rest of the week brings.
Hugs and more hugs sent your way, friend.
Thank you KellyC!
Wearing about 6 sprays of Dior Addict tonight. Yesterday I had Cuir de Lancome on. Both are great fall scents for me; very cozy!
I will have to review for ‘weirdos’ in my stash ?
?for Dior Addict!
Smelling great!
Have fun looking for perfume “weirdos”!
Nothing odd for me today (at least in my book), I was in No. 22 for a day of unpacking and errands. Probably didn’t match my running shorts and sneakers but alas, I just wanted to wear it!
Chanel will match any outfit and any occasion, IMO.
