It's Hump Day and Mole Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a drop of Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle, which unfortunately does not at all match the artwork I chose for today's post. I do smell appropriately October-ish, though.
Reminder: on 10/25, for International Artist's Day, match a fragrance with an artist or work of art, and tell us about it!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Fendi’s Life Essence.
Love your Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle, actually I love several FM scents. Someone told me Barey’s is in bankruptsy and I worry that will limit my access to sniffing Fm line before buying.
It is hard to say what will happen to Barneys, but it does seem very unlikely that they’ll emerge with all stores.
On the other hand, FM could just decide to expand in other department stores…
FM is in my local Neiman Marcus, perhaps because we don’t have a Barney’s.
They already have a partialpresence at Nordstroms, I would like for that to expand.
The sun is out, another beautiful day in NYC
SOTD is Hermes Terre d’Hermes
A piece of art to match

Cappuccino this morning and thumbing through the newspaper..
My FIL arrived safe and sound last night. He seemed tired but in good spirits because of the little ones.
Love that Paul Klee!
JCE would not like it I guess, but to me Terre is one of the Mark Rothko Blue & Brown thing, maybe
http://www.markrothko.org/no-61-brown-blue-brown-blue-1953/
I agree he would not like but I also agree that Rothko would fit this perfume.
I was trying to find something with subtle yellow color since Terre is like sunshine to me.
Terre and I have been reunited (and it feels so good) after I was going through my closet..
I do like some Klee works myself.
I am wearing several scents as I was going through a box of smellies and every one that I picked up…I may have sprayed on lol. I mainly smell of oriental goodness atm lol.
I misread that for oriental goddess 🙂
Oriental goddess sounds good to me:)
I thought of your FIL last night as I was going to sleep and hoped his trip was a safe one.
Aww! I am so touched. Thank you!
For almost 71 he is full of energy. I think my children keep him young
No doubt they do. I once heard someone say that grandchildren are your reward for not killing your children. (I know, too cynical.)
Continuing on my Soivohle theme by sampling Patchouli Rose today
House twins! I’m in Iris Underground for the second time this week.
Good morning! No perfume yet, unless I still have a bit of Le Petite Chocolatier # 1: Confiture on from last night. Tea this morning is Numi tea: Justine’s Blend.
In the hopes of not being confusing, after the splitmeet is over I’ll round up what I want to give away as freebies. I didn’t put a list up on the last freebiemeet post because I’d need help with postage for things like body sprays and candles. Also, I wasn’t terribly organized at that point.
Scent for a while: sprayed a bit of Kashan Rose right before I left the house. I like it pretty well. 🙂 I don’t know exactly what I’m in the mood for at the moment. If I get ambitious today, I may try to match up with a “Rose, Lily, Lily, Rose” theme. I can picture the painting, but I’m blanking on the artist’s name. Many Dutch still life paintings have those fat Centifolia roses, along with other flowers that don’t necessarily bloom at the same time.
I admire those of you who can think in a more metaphorical way. I remain sadly literal-minded. But I’ll try to come up with pictures of churches or mosques to go with incense scents and such.
Not a Dutch master but John Singer Sargent did Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose if that’s what you’re thinking of
Yes, thanks! I was thinking “Sargent,” but I didn’t trust that I was remembering right.
I got to lily with a sample of Donna Karan Gold. It smelled a little metallic to me close up at first, but I liked it from a few inches away.
If one of the flowers was carnation, I can go with Bellodgia EdT. The bottle is probably from the 1980s or 1990s. I don’t know when Nana A. got it, but I know that it had been in one of the boxes of Nana’s things that Mom inherited for a few years, until I found it. I still haven’t gotten the top of the wee bottle of Bellodgia extrait open, but I’m afraid to try anything drastic for fear of breaking the bottle.
It turned out to be Bellodgia Eau de Cologne. I get a fairly mellow scent from it.
Oh god, the mole – realizing that it was just a constant, like a dozen, was the biggest breakthrough I had in science class. Gigantic lightbulb overhead. Memories …
Anyway, I wore Cuir Ottoman yesterday (with thoughts of Deva and her adventures), and today it’s Feu Secret. I’m past the diesel-fumes vibe now and on to the lovely iris and incense phase. Ahhh.
I have not yet had that breakthrough, might be too late 😉
You smell great!
It’s never too late! Girl in favor of the sciences here. 🙂
I am not in any way opposed to science! I just don’t understand it.
You’re way smarter than I am, SheriG, the first thing I thought was “moles on the skin or underground moles? Hey I wonder if Zoologist will do a Mole perfume!” Then I hit the link and my eyes crossed due to my unscientific brain ?
My first thought was Caddyshack? But wait, that’s a gopher. Then clicked after reading this post.
LOL!
My brain resisted the concept of the mole for an unreasonable amount of time until I had the “oh, duh, that’s all they mean?!?” moment. I remember it taking a few class periods of “what the heck?” before I caught on.
Yes, exactly! Why did they have to make it so mysterious? Yeeesh!
I distinctly remember sitting in chemistry class, mildly engaged, when the teacher said something like “We have now covered anorganic chemistry and will move on to organic chemistry.”
Me (to myself): “?#$%! There is a whole other kind of chemistry? I’m out of here.”
Yes! I spent about half a term of college thinking about becoming a pharmacist … and then (after realizing that chemistry in any form is just not my bag) went running back to my first love, mathematics. One of the things I love most about math is that there are often multiple ways of solving a problem, all of which come to the same answer. Gives a person faith that the answer is really real, you know?
Hey, at least you were mildly engaged. I was perplexed from day 1. My brain is missing that whole section, apparently.
Cuir Ottoman is so elegant. I need to wear it tomorrow. The fall weather is just right for it.
It really is just made for fall. I love how it gets warmer and a bit sweeter as the day goes on. I might just wear it again tomorrow!
I dug out my rollerball and small bottles tray today and dug around for something that’s been overlooked. Closed my eyes and grabbed Laura Mercier Almond Coconut. I need an app that randomly selects a fragrance from my collection so they get rotated and not forgotten. Does anyone have ideas, does such a thing exist?
Don’t know of an app but your close eyes and grab method sounds effective!
Yes, if you have a Basenotes account and list your wardrobe and samples there, there is a ‘pick me something random to wear’ button. You can also record your scent(s) of the day so see what you haven’t worn recently.
niiiiiice, thanks! I don’t have my wardrobe listed there but sounds worth investigating
This is a much less high-tech option, but what I do with other things I want to work through is pack or stack them all up in a box or drawer. Then any time I want to use them take the one from the front then replace it at the back. It works best with things which are all more or less the same shape and size, which I guess might not be the case here 🙂
TokyoMilk Ex Libris, which is kind of an unperfume, I wear it when I’m not in the mood for anything else.
I need to find something like that – when I’m not in the mood for anything I just get disgruntled and crabby. 🙂
Hiram Green Shangri La today. For a natural, this one has quite the sillage and longevity. Will not need to reapply or choose anything else later today!
His perfumes are very potent, which is surprising given they are naturals. The new Voyage 2019 is a similar vibe but I like it even better. He’s in my top 3 indie perfumers.
You smell great, Shangri La is gorgeous!
I almost finished my sample and I was hoping to get a travel spray, but this scent is discontinued 🙁
(And it seems travel sizes for all scents are gone as well…)
I’m wearing Songe d’un Bois d’Eté by Guerlain. The name reminds me of L’après-midi d’un Faune, which I’ve never heard or seen. Still, it is a link albeit an oblique one.
You smell great! I get a ton of compliments when I wear it.
I haven’t had any yet, but I love this one so much. Really glad I got my bottle (at a discount!) when I did. I also love Rose Nacrée du Désert.
Finally, a beautiful fall day. Wearing Chergui.
And you smell great!
That beadwork is BEAUTIFUL!
I’m Ummagumma Good today. ✌?
Did you see the new bottles? Want!
What new bottles? I just looked at BF’s website and they look the same.
Same bottle, different artwork – bolder!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B37bZojBsfW/?igshid=fubkbyxicd19
Lemming a BUB now?
Interesting that he is not showing this bottle on his website. I like it!
That is strange that they are not on his website!
Deva, have you seen the Christmas sets by Benifit at ULTA? They are packaged in little vans! Very cute.
I’m going to check it out when I get out of the salt mines! Thanks for telling me- I love van oriented stuff??
What a lovely picture, Robin.
I am doing a popular project – finish your samples. Today I finished Arte Profumi Ecclesiae, a church incense with poor performance. Verdict: wear frankincense oil instead.
I tried a sample of Samharam from the Arte Profumi line yesterday and it was plenty strong. I could still smell it clearly 12 hours later. If you have the chance to try it, I would recommend it, for a great frankincense scent.
Thanks! Sounds good.
Do go look at the whole car, it’s amazing!
Hermes Eau de Narcisse Bleu
house twins..
You smell great! Eau de Narcisse bleu was my first Hermès purchase, I still think its one of their most interesting scents.
I also love that beadwork.
SOTD AdP Iris Nobile edt to go with:
https://images.app.goo.gl/w3HTkezSDD1gx44u5
I’m feeling really literal today.
Really, it matches the beautiful, sunny day even better.
Excited we just found out we’ll be drumming for the NYC marathon! Last year I uked at the marathon. It’s as close to participating in the marathon as I’ll ever get.
I love your perfume and art pairing…
Yeah for drumming at the marathon. We will go and watch, the runners pass by right by where we live
Thank you!
It’s exciting to watch them. I have much admiration for runners.
They pass here where I live in Brooklyn, too! In fact we get sandwiched in. Last year it took me having to go over the Williamsburg Bridge and back again into Brooklyn so I could get to the other side of the street we were playing on!
? ?
Where will you be playing?
Not sure yet-still waiting for specifics.
Exciting!?
I am wearing vintage BaV at the moment and in a debate. I have made the commitment to buy either the travel set of either no 5 or Mademoiselle, I can get either one or the other not both. I have 4 full bottles of no 5 but I do have a strong liking for Mademoiselle but don’t have any in my collection. I am incredibly indecisive when it comes to buying a bottle of perfume!
So am I!
Haven’t really broken into the fall-winter fragrances yet, even though the temperature is in the 30s. Clinging to the long-gone summer in Tocca Colette.
Last night I watched The People Under the Stairs for the first time. I wish I’d have seen it as a kid, the fusion of 80s childhood adventure movie with horror made it really fun.
I meant to reply yesterday but forgot. TPUTS was one of my favorite movies when I was like 12, maybe even younger. My mom let me rent almost anything from Blockbuster, plus we had HBO, so I saw a lot of movies at an earlier age than you’d expect. I still love the movie.
I’m wearing Gallagher Bergamust.
Have you tried the Wicked Good Vanilla?
I have, if you want a sample I can put it in your package.
I have it too…was just wondering if Priscilla had tried it. Thanks-I feel ?
I’m wearing vintage Rochas Lumière, which as a tropical solar floral accidentally fits the image quite well. It’s a holiday perfume for me; thankfully it’s half term and we’re having a few days’ break at my parents in law. Wales is not tropical though.
Good morning Y’all…..
Enjoying the heck outta Bvlgari Black this morning! I need to keep this one out front and center this time of year…..
Parent/Teacher/Student conference today for my 13 year old son, who is struggling to live up to his potential…..It’s gonna be a rockin’ good time for all. #UGH #TeenBoys
Stay strong for the conference!
Black… You smell amazing.
Hope it goes better than expected!
Oh gosh, I need to pull that out where I can see it, too. Fall is perfect for B. Black.
Fils de Dieu, because I compared it to Winter Palace which I wore yesterday. They are not hugely similar at all but might fill a similar perfume space for me. Fils is a bit more loud and maybe a bit more fun, Winter Palace is more refined and elegant (but maybe I’m influenced by the pricing here). If Fils is Anna from Frozen, then Winter Palace would be Elsa.
I like that pairing, but suspect they would both be in something easier to find!
SOTD = Carner Barcelona D600
Beautiful sunny coolish day in NYC! D600 is just the perfect woody, nutty, iris, vetiver, vanilla scent. My bottle is almost empty but I have a BUB!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B39R0o-hpkn/?igshid=1t91rntl9pj2c
And for a fun Halloweeney picture although nothing to do with the fragrance or the CP:

LVEB woman is not in the office today…
In another commuter misbehaving moment, a guy stepped off the curb into the street, stopped and kept on texting. Meanwhile, traffic was going past him until finally, a car that wanted to use the lane he was standing on beeped its horn twice before the guy looked up and stepped back. Oy!
I was in a hurry today, quickly grabbed my husband’s Tuscan leather. It’s perfect for Autumn!
Today I had a day off and visited my brother and my nephews (1,4 and 4 y/o).
Wow, working again after a few months at home is exciting and it gives me energy. But all the new impressions are also quite overwhelming.
I used to work at a small organisation where i knew everyone (120 people), but at my new job…..I am one of thousands ??
You smell great. Tuscan Leather is delicious.
I’m wearing MFK APOM. Beautiful and happy scent for a pleasant day here in Houston. It’s finally stopped being 90 degrees all the time.
Our Astros had a disappointing loss last night, but I have to concede it was a truly good baseball game, and this World Series promises to be of epic proportions!
I’m in vintage Samsara. The most beautiful sandalwood fragrance that I know of.
Wow, that is a beauty! You smell amazing.
Ditto
In Journey this AM.
I thought about wearing that this morning, but I ended up going with something else. I think you smell great!
I am in Diptyque Essences Incensee 2015. I love this jasmine & rose combination in this fragrance, but mainly it’s the Jasmine that is the regal queen here. The solid is beautiful as well and goes perfectly with Mandy Aftel’s Jasmine face elixir!
Happy hump day.
I love the beadwork in that photo Robin, and your selection of art for Terre makes me want to try it at Sephora next trip.
House twins!
Hi Tein!
It is still one of my favorite Hermes fragrances, do try it!
I’m in the recent version of Houbigant’s Mon Boudoir.
Tell us about it! I am curious…
How sweet, thank you for asking Ltsg! I have a spray sample, and this is my first time trying it. I find it to be quite reminiscent of Shalimar, but much quieter and more delicate and not as dense. It’s beautifully blended with just a hint of powder and indistinguishable (to my nose) florals, and the dry down is predominantly a soft vanilla on my skin.
Here’s what Luca Maffei has to say:
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Luca-Maffei-About-the-New-Mon-Boudoir-by-Houbigant-12591.html
I love your reviews Holly!
Thank you! I recall that you were interested in trying this – shall I set it aside for you? And… in the far drydown I’m smelling a musky, nutty wood accord that I’m not a fan of. Just sayin’.
It’s pretty nice out today, but I’m taking a couch day anyway. I’ve been randomly sampling perfume all morning. I did have to run to the pharmacy though and decided I needed an official perfume to leave the house. I went with Dolce Vita because the color reminded me of the golden leaves outside, plus it’s just gorgeous.
I tried that one over the summer and I loved it! So beautiful
It’s a favorite with me too, very suited to this time of year, you smell all golden.
I was thinking of you when I put it on. I thought I remembered you liking too?
Thank you Lillyjo, yes, I do.
Wasn’t too sure what to wear today so reached for SL Clair de Musc, problem solved, it sure lasts on my skin but remains discreet.
A good no brainer.
Yes, that’s exactly it, Robin.
I noticed my decant of Jacques Zolty Van-Ile was looking lower than I thought it should be, so I thought I better wear it. I absolutely love it and of course I can’t find it anywhere. It’s a lovely citrus, almondy, powdery, vanilla chypre (oakmoss and patchouli) done by Cecile Zarokian.
That does sound lovely.
It’s a nice one. I got mine from a split hosted by clarissa!
I got mine from a swap or freebie from kpaint. Maybe she got it from clarissa’s split…
I’m channeling Sargent’s “La Carmencita” today in Seville à l’Aube. Of course, her clothing may have nothing to do with Seville, but I like Sargent and I love the beautiful yellow in her dress. So, there you go….
https://i1.wp.com/art.newcity.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/la-carmencita-NEW_press.jpg?resize=1832%2C3000&ssl=1
Did local NYC folks see that the Nordstrom is opening tomorrow? I’m not very interested except to check out the scents and grab samples….
Yep. There’s a bus trip to pump people in tomorrow. I was going to join if it was on Saturday. I think it will be nice!
Tried to thunk a decant of Jacomo Art Collection No8, but could not finish it with lots of sprays. Will need at least another wearing, but not tomorrow.
Got a decant of Memoir Woman today, so i am wearing this. And i finally finished sewing my York Pinafore dress, so i can wear it tomorrow for work. I made it from dark denim and its really comfortable. Will pair it with with a striped tshirt.
I love No. 8 – I have to remember to get my bottle back from a friend to whom I loaned it.
I am always admiring of people who sew (particularly people who can sew a pinafore dress to wear out in public).
I’m late to the party. Wearing Diptyque Volutes edt which I got in the Swapmeet several years ago. It’s a wonderful perfume for fall!
Yes it is (and I am even later)!
Put on some Dior Patchouli Imperial from a sample this morning and it turned my skin red and burning. Very unusual for me. Will be scrubbing now and putting on JM Rose & Magnolia instead.
Oh no! That happened to me with a bottle of Patou Joy, sprayed on my arms. That’s never happened to me before either. No lasting damage. Like you, I washed it off quickly.
Chose Grimoire from Anatole Lebreton today.
Hope it is a Bewitching fragrance…
In Safran Troublant today and a colleague said, “I love walking by you – you always smell so good!” How nice of her…
That is a lovely compliment!
Wearing Byredo Rodeo in this Indian summer we’re having in San Francisco. Absolutely beautiful in warm weather.
Met a lovely local perfumista. I think this is going to be fun! We spent the day sampling and I can’t remember which was my favorite, but I smell good!
I’ll smell like garlic, shallots and thyme in about an hour.
Enjoy everyone!
I played sample roulette and dug out Zoologist Dodo for tonight.
Wasn’t going to wear perfume today but I walked past the local seller of Le Labo perfumes, so ducked in to see if they had Baie 19. They didn’t so ended up in a spritz of Santal 33 as I don’t think I’ve ever tried it. So now I’m walking around smelling like pickle juice which is a little distracting.
