It's Monday. Birthdays today: Dizzy Gillespie and Ursula Le Guin. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am out of town and commando. It is just possible I might manage some perfume shopping today.
Reminder: on 10/25, for International Artist's Day, match a fragrance with an artist or work of art, and tell us about it!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I would love to do some perfume shopping today. Hope you are having a good time, Robin.
My SOTD is Jubilation 25, I put on a little too much. I have not had any complaints yet, but that might just be out of politeness 😉
No, there can’t possibly be too much of such a beautiful fragrance!
I agree 🙂
Agree too!
You smell beautiful!
Thank you!
You smell amazing!
thank you for reminding me of this beauty, I have a sample and I need to wear it more often.
Thank you! Perfume shopping did not happen, other sorts of shopping did. It all works out in the end 🙂
I’m wearing Samsara from a decant. I always forget how much I like this one between wearings. I really should get a full bottle, which are cheap as chips.
You should just go for it..but buy the coffin like bottle that with the red top.
SOTD is OJ Woman, after it was mentioned as a good forest-y scent yesterday. Retried a bunch of SSSs over the weekend, and found that I like them better sprayed very lightly. Tabac Aurea came out the frontrunner in that experiment.
The weekend thread made me want to wear that too!
Hey, twin! ?
Have fun shopping Robin!
This weeks CP should be fun..
Speaking of art, last night my neighbor had me over to watch a film by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, called Never Look Away. In German with subtitles.
I am in Alahiiiiiiine today, but the solid perfume. I prefer to the liquid. I wore it yesterday and I can still smell it on me today.
Hmmm..a painting to match Alahine..maybe a Chagall..something like this https://images.app.goo.gl/D2RdNo24QnvdtMGKA
You smell meravigliosa L2SG!
I bought a bottle on super sale – I have wanted it for 3 years.
Enabler Pin to You!
I smiled listening to you call it’s name all these years., it seemed irresistible after the 1st dauber.
Grazie AngelaB Bella
I am curious to know your thoughts because I read that its been reformulated?
Beautiful painting–it shows me how that perfume must smell (I’ve never tried it).
I liked that movie – a bit long, but quite interesting! Have you seen “the lives of others”, which is his Oscar winning film also situated in East Germany.
The Lives of Others was superb. Subtle, sad and nuanced. I don’t think that Hollywood would be able to make such a movie. Too many grey areas of humanity.
I see its also by Florian..
Ah, you mentioned that already.
I will have to see if I can watch that one online somehow
I’m wearing the beautiful First Cut.
Anyone have good recommendations for a scent-free hand lotion? I’ve finally found a really good moisturizing one (Burt’s Bees honey and grapeseed) but find the honey scent really takes over my perfume for a couple hours.
what about the ones from Avene? They are scent free
Eucerin hand cream is my favorite for my dry hands/cuticles and it’s unscented. And cheap!
Ditto!
That one is also good..
Thanks for the suggestions! Cheap is good! 🙂 I will look into Eucerin, and I also just remembered that Kiehl’s can sometimes be got for a reasonable price at discounters.
I use and like the Neutrogena hand cream.
I’m going to second recommendations for both Neutrogena and Eucerin hand creams.
Having a sampling frenzy before my shower. I think I have too much perfume, everything smells like something I already have or don’t want.
Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul.
There are definitely days like that.
Today is the big election day in Canada no?
Yes it is. I voted 10 days ago, before I left.
I know what you mean! It seems to be increasingly hard to find something different that really grabs me, but that does mean that I’ve tried lots of things, satisfied my curiosity, and not spent a fortune 🙂
Wearing the beautiful Nahema today ?
I watched two Clark Gable movies over the weekend and they were both excellent: Manhattan Melodrama, with William Powell and Myrna Loy, and the classic Mutiny on the Bounty. What an actor! Anyone have favorite classic movies? I’m putting together a list for winter.
Lots of good ones with Cary Grant, from Arsenic and Old Lace to North by Northwest, and including Bringing Up Baby and To Catch a Thief….
Thanks! Love Cary Grant too 🙂
Another GREAT film is Now Voyager with Bette Davis. Along with Stella Dallas–terrific female melodramas. And Written in the Wind with Robert Stack, Rock Hudson, and Lauren Bacall. Directed by the amazing Douglas Sirk.
Thanks Calypso! I recently watched All About Eve for the umpteenth time but haven’t see many Bette Davis movies otherwise.
Calypso,
I can watch Now Voyager over and over. Then The Letter, then Dark Victory, followed up by Watch Along the Rhine.
A Bette Davis day got me through a deep depression years ago.
Douglas Sirk, you bet. Imitation of Life.
Today is Carrie Fishers’ birthday for all you Star Wars fans.
Scentless today except for some Molton Brown coco and sandalwood body lotion.
I too ove Imitation of Life, the ending with Mahalia Jackson singing reduces me to tears everytime.
love not ove, sorry for the typo
Oh my God, that’s a movie you need an entire Kleenex box for.
I like the old musicals. Try mother wore tights with Betty Grable.
If you like Clark Gable, try San Francisco. It’s a good one – great earthquake sequence. When you get to the holiday season, definitely watch The Bishop’s Wife with Loretta Young, Cary Grant and David Niven. It’s wonderful.
I grew up on the old movies, so too many to recommend. Laura is a good noirish melodrama, with an incredible theme song.
I just recorded Laura the other day! Haven’t watched it yet. Thanks for the recs.
Laura, gosh what a great movie. I can remember coming home from school and my mom would have it on the black and white TV.
Letter to Three Wives.
I love Joseph Cotton movies and anything with Theresa Wright… Mrs. Miniver, Pride of the Yankees, The Best Years of Our Lives.
And Shadow of a Doubt. Speaking of clothes…I love Teresa Wright’s clothes in that.
I like Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Also with Myrna Loy. Lighthearted and fun.
Love that movie. And of course Thin Man, with Myrna Loy and William Powell, and then My Man Godfrey, with William Powell and Carole Lombard.
My children like Hitchcock. Vertigo is a favourite!
And Rear Window! If nothing else, for the fabulousness of the outfits Grace Kelly wears.
A couple young friends came over to watch old movies not long ago and one hadn’t seen any Hitchcock movies so we watched Rear Window. I can watch it over and over for Grace Kelly’s clothes alone 🙂
And another melodrama Waterloo Bridge with Vivien Leigh, and for a lighter move Fred Astaire’s 2 musicals with Rita Hayworth: You were never lovelier and You’ll never get rich. Old movies are so addictive.
Yes, and such a great escape! Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly are so incredible to watch. I wish I could tap dance lol.
+1 To Catch a Thief
Sun Valley Serenade with Glenn Miller and his Orchestra.
Lots of the Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy films. Cukors The Women is also a great one. I also love Metropolis and other Fritz Lang films.
My favorite of the Hepburn/Tracy ones is Desk Set. My goodness it’s funny.
If you have never watched Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell, be sure to watch it. The clothes!! And so incredibly funny.
Oh I love that movie and watch it every year. Her apartment and it’s redecorating was amazing too 🙂
Some faves are Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford, Black Narcissus with Deborah Kerr, and The Bad Seed with Patty McCormack as the creepy little Rhoda Penmark!
I’ll recommend Gigi, with Leslie Caron. It’s a fun, light thing set in the Belle Epoque era. And Hello Dolly!
And how could I forget the original version of Sabrina, with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn?
Good morning Y’all!
Felt like reaching for something I haven’t worn in a while, so I’m in Elie Saab Le Parfum. Orange blossom goodness; Mr. Kurkdijan knows his way around an orange tree! 🙂 My only issue was that immediately after spraying, I sneezed and sneezed and sneezed and sneezed and sneezed and sneezed and sneezed. Then I sneezed one more time before I got hold of myself…..LOL!
Hey Jada, I was looking at Ex Idolo Love and Crime, and think I came across a review from you. If you have tried it, can you compare it to anything?
Hi lillyjo!
I LOVE Love and Crime! It was this years’ birthday present to myself! 🙂 I can’t think of anything specific to compare it too….but think gourmand sweet CAKE!
On my skin I get the most vanilla angel food cake, glazed with a citrus sugary top. It’s a very true to life smell! I really don’t get much cocoa like some do. ONE SPRAY is a gracious plenty on my skin too….it’s a parfum extrait! I spray one spritz in the air and walk thru it…..
Thanks Jada! You make it sound pretty dreamy. I am hoping to get something for myself for Christmas, and am trying to narrow down the long list, lol!
I really love the expression “a gracious plenty”!
It smells a lot like Profumum Dulcis in Fundo on me. Orange creamsicle.
Reading Jada’s description I was thinking of this Profumum too 🙂
Oh no! ?
I love that perfume!
Today I am wearing Issey Miyake a scent by issey miyake which reminds me of Roberto Burle Marx’s fantastic modernist garden landscapes. (https://www.viator.com/en-CA/tours/Rio-de-Janeiro/Sitio-Roberto-Burle-Marx-Tour/d712-8753P17)
How gorgeous that is–what greens!
I love that scent. Sometimes I wear it on one arm and Trefle Pur on the other. They are similar, with a scent being more floral, and Trefle Pur being a bit more about the stems, not the flower.
Yum to both!!
I wore Umma Gumma yesterday and probably will reapply today after my radiation. I haven’t worn it since last winter and for some reason it smells very different to me this year- more hot buttered rum or butterscotch or something. I like it better. Urging all Canadians to vote in the federal election today.
I voted before I left!
Good luck with the radiation. I’ve never heard of your scent, but may it bring you peace and comfort.
Hope everything went well at the hospital.
I hope everything goes well.
Thanks, radiation is a piece of cake compared to chemo, at least so far.
Just got home from voting. Lots of people out there tonight.
UG sounds yummy today on you; glad you are enjoying it. I will have to dig out my sample.
ELDO She was an Anomaly..
Thunk.
I found it on sale at 20% off at Twisted Lily yesterday. I am pretty sure that sale ends on the 22nd.
PSA!
30mls for &38 bucks!!
That kind of deal is an anomaly!
😉
What do you think of this one? I’m intrigued by the notes.
I’d really like to know your thoughts on this one too.
I really do like it – there is a crisp sharp Iris note in the opening that is my favorite part. No powder, all green no carrot . I just can’t tell how long the drydown lasts.’ I am somewhat anosmic to many musks. So I keep reapplying joyously! It reminds me of Le Cri w/o the rose at a much better price point. I will readily admit that I am not an expert.
Nice sale price!!
First day @ new job
Woah loads of information and new people to meet
Sotd is Ormonde Woman
Have a great first day Jiji!
Wishing you a good start!
Best wishes for the new job!
Have a fun day!
Go get ’em Jiji.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Happy first day.
Congrats and buena suerte!
have a great beginning!
Exciting and scary!
You got this!
You smell wonderful, happy first day!
You smell divine and good luck.
I hope that your first day at the new job went well Jiji.
Wearing Jul et Mad Stairway to Heaven.
My feelings for this one are basically the same as Angela described the scent in her review.
Jessica 🙂
Ear worm!
Since Liz Zorn is both a painter and a perfumer I think I will do a week of Soivohle scents. Today I am sampling Femme Seudo
Oh, nice way to approach the theme! And would also fit Bruno Fazzolari, and I think Dawn Spencer Harris started as a painter (and of course she has the series of color perfumes).
Andrea Maack also falls in this category
Yes! And bet there are others I am not thinking of.
Ah, and “Olfactive Studio is an encounter between contemporary artistic photography and perfumery” …
What’s your take on Femme Seudo?
A nice floral tilting towards rose with some fuzziness. Tobacco isn’t prominent on my skin which is fine by me
I’m wearing my recently acquired McQueen rich body cream and it smells like this Mark Rothko painting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Center_(Yellow,_Pink_and_Lavender_on_Rose)#/media/File:White_Center_(Yellow,_Pink_and_Lavender_on_Rose).jpg
Great painting, I imagine the cream is marvelous.
Nice matching! That body cream is luscious. Thanks again for sharing your sample loot. ?
Chanel No. 19 because the decant was catching my eye. Thanks to the generosity of KellyC!
YUMMMM. Love No. 19. I have to dig around for my bottle. This may be either Chanel or Guerlain week,
No 19 is fabulous!
I went back to sleep after the kid’s were off this morning. This is always a mistake. I woke up from a nightmare, and must have been grinding my teeth because my broken tooth is now more broken. Today would be a perfect hibernation day, but I am off to work. Sotd is my old friend, Alien leather version.
Oh no! I wear a bite plate at night to prevent that, I’ve cracked a molar in the past. At least you smell good.
Oh, ouch! I grind my teeth and a night guard helps immensely. I do love Alien, you smell lovely!
Ugh. I’ve done that- and I really need to have that broken tooth pulled already- it’s broken beyond root canal capability.
I third the mouth guard, Lillyjo, sorry it’s been a rough day for you. Old friend perfumes are the best.
I probably should have gotten the mouth guard years ago. I will definitely ask for one my next dental appointment. Thanks everyone!
So sorry lillyjo!
Thanks Robin. It looks like The year of the dentist will carry into next year.
I need to get all my amalgams replaced and I’ve been putting it off…I will be joining you soon in Year of the Dentist.
Oh no! Sorry about your tooth! Hope you can get it fixed soon.
Oh no! What a bummer! That has to hurt both mouth and wallet.
I also have a night guard. My dentist had been telling me to get one for years, and this year I finally listened to her and did the deed.
Hi all, SOTD is vintage Shalimar PdT, loving the tonka, vanilla notes I’m getting. Happy Monday! 🙂
Oh, you smell gorgeous, PdT has fans here, so lush.
I meant Shalimar PdT of course.
What a beautiful scent 🙂
I went with Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours today. I believe this sample was courtesy of the ever generous Hajusurri.
EdV seems fairly similar to the orginal. Still very pretty with great longevity. Guess I’ll need to do a smackdown to see if I can sniff out the differences.
Oohh, I would love a smackdown! The original is so so good.
Btw, I sent you another email Friday, in case you didn’t get it, Thank you!
Ah, yes. I’ll check!
You smell lovely! I keep forgetting that I have a mini of that one. I think it’s sweeter and less peppery with that bit of rose in the top notes. My recollection is they end up almost the same at some point.
Curious to hear your take.
I was hoping that you would comment. ? I haven’t worn the original recently. EdV just seems softer overall. Very pretty!
You smell so pretty in Eau de Velours.
I actually got a very pretty rose note in the Eau de Velours while the original is all oakmoss on me. No floral notes at all.
This is what I got too. I like them both. BV did a great job.
I wafted gardenia yesterday in Narciso so I’m repeating…it was too beautiful to only wear for one day.
Can I just say it? Our tiny apartment is a mess. And I just can’t seem to get motivated on the real cleaning it needs. I really need to purge.
If you organize, you’ll have space for more perfume. Did that help? ?
We are not the neatest or most disciplined about regular cleaning schedules and end up in the overhaul camp. What works like a charm is inviting people over for dinner or whatever. Really kicks ya into gear!
Moving and dying…
Having some different people over for dinner every three weeks is the only thing that works for me, in terms of keeping the house clean. 🙂
I am in your situation. The problem is that I’ll have to take leave to have time to do that, and I couldn’t bear to waste vacation days for such drudgery. A day only has so many hours and I’m the gardener and the cook, which I like (former) and don’t begrudge (latter). But I’m a terrible housewife and organizer.
I can only commiserate, my little house is kind of a disaster right now. I cleaned out my (not large) perfume cabinet on Saturday and I feel more organized but of course the room itself looks just the same 🙁
I forgot to comment that we saw Victor Victoria and “10” yesterday. Both are very funny. I thought 10 might seem more dated but it held up quite well. Blake Edwards was quite the master at slapstick, physical comedy.
Interesting, I would have thought 10 would be seriously dated too! I will have to watch it one of these days.
Victor Victoria was the movie that convinced me Burt Reynolds could do comedy.
I’m wearing L’Attesa today since I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to buy a bottle while Indigo Perfumery is having their sale. I think I’ve successfully talked myself out of buying it – not because I don’t love the perfume. I do love it. But I only need a spray to each arm and one to the chest because it’s quite strong. So my little decant should last me a while longer. I also recall hearing that they’ll be releasing travel sprays at some point. Hopefully, by the time I finish my decant, the travel spray will be available.
I spent a lot on perfume last quarter, so I’m trying to be more mindful of my buying.
A travel spray? Their bottles are already only 35mls, hardly seems worth it. But I guess if you only use a little…. I only buy 3ml decants of certain things I only want to wear once or twice a year.
Yes, 10ml. It’s worth it to me because of how little I wear the same perfume coupled with how few sprays I need of this one. I Am also trying to be considerate of my buying. Trust me, I’m tempted to buy the full bottle!
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwr1kKvh2G8/?igshid=1dim6kythphgq
Tea for Two. Maybe a Rembrandt?
Interesting pairing.
It is so gorgeous out today and I’ve already taken several opportunities to just walk around outside- nice after yesterday’s dreary, cold rain.
I’m in Goldfield and Banks Southern Bloom again.
Had a great, albeit exhausting, day Saturday- 3 hour drumming practice and then a performance at the close of the NYC Honk festival which features brass, marching, and street bands. So many great bands and honored they asked us to play!
Wow, you had a busy weekend, hope your wrists are fine.
Thanks Aurora! It was and sometimes I feel like I’m too old for those kind of long days+ very late nights, lol. My wrists are fine- it’s my inner thighs/knees that are bruised from the drum. I really should invest in knee pads!
NEVER too old!
What FUN ElisaP!! I bet you really enjoyed it, and I can imagine how those bruises feel. (I have the same issue with the bongos. Too much metal and feet there )
It is super fun, despite the hazards, lol.
Hey, have you ever run across Batalá D.C.? Batalá International has groups in different cities all over the globe-they’re a branded group, but same style that we play. The NYC and DC branches are all-women. They were who inspired me to join the group I play with- though I’ve not ruled out joining Batala NYC at some point. Some of their members drum with us also. They’re great to check out!
https://youtu.be/aIGTxje7tvA
Oh what a cool idea! No I have not but will definitely follow your link right now. Thank You ElisaP.!
Maybe we will meet at a regional event, that would so fun.
That would be fun! I’m toying with a drumming retreat next year that a fellow drummer did in PA this past Sept. It looked amazing!
OhhhhhhYhis is sooooooo cool. You say funky and I am THERE!
Did you see there is a new perfume shop next to By Killian on the UES
It is called Fueguia
I am not familiar..
Anyone?
I’m familiar with the brand through Luckyscent, but have yet to try any- the one I wanted to try earlier this summer was out of samples. Didn’t know they opened a shop! I’ve never been to the Kilian shop either. Are they on Madison?
Yes on Madison near the Apple sore
It’s an Argentinian company, Luckyscent carries some of them.
Yesterday was a great day to stay inside and make soup or chili!
I was in rare mood for a fruitchouli so went for the original Badgley Mischka, the fruit salad one which I like quite a bit. It is still going strong but now I’m tired of it and in the mood for spices and incense, I’m thinking Caron Parfum Sacre or Molto Missoni maybe with all its cinnamon.
Aurora, here’s a little song to go with your perfume
https://youtu.be/iRu1Yp2br00
??
🙂 thank you Lillyjo, now I’m going around singing fruit salad yummy yummy.
It’s been in my head for 15 years!?
Waiting for my Angel’s Dust to be delivered. Francesca Bianchi. I had a coupon so just had to get it. I’m officially on a no-buy.
Wow, you’re really liking this House!
Enjoy!
Had a counseling appointment today and spent a half an hour on the phone to take care of a bill. The website was being a butt for some reason. I woke up no 5 but been commando since 8 this morning. Last night, I was curious to see if I could get just a mini from Andy Tauer’s website but it was a no go, I have to get a full bottle of something. I keep meaning to get a bottle of Rose Flash but keep backing out for some reason. Probably because I am supposed to be on a no buy. Good news is that my dogs are getting a double Barkbox in the mail today and they are going to lose their minds over it. I don’t double the Barkbox too often. I think I will wear vintage BaV today.
Thinking of happy dogs makes me happy 🙂
PdN Vetyver today.
Such an interesting vetiver scent.
I’ve taken a day’s leave today, and am very much looking forward to a day pottering about at home. I’d hoped to take the day off for my birthday last week, but there was too much on. I’m lingering over breakfast, very glad I don’t need to go out right now, there is not only heavy rain, but hail!
I’ll need something warming when I do go out a bit later, maybe Safran Troublant.
Enjoy your day!
I hope that you enjoyed your belated birthday break!
Mohur Extrait today, my bottle is dwindling, I need to get more….but I also need a new winter coat. Oh, what to do? 🙂
Buy the $50 puffer coat from
Costco and whatever the difference is between this and the winter coat you had been eyeing is free money (since you saved by not buying) and I think you just have to shell out a little more for the bottle ?
Advanced perfumath from Professor Hajusuuri! ?
Score! Hajusuuri perfume math for the win!
I am wearing Narciso Rodriguez Santal Musc from a decant and I like it a lot! It’s linear, but creamy and warm and it has some staying power.
Robin, did you smell anything worth mention and have you bought anything?
I did get shopping but did not get to the perfume, sorry! It has been a very poor year for perfume shopping in general — too many other things going on.
That’s not a bad thing. With the amount of perfume some of us have, skipping a year or two without buying and resisting the temptation is a positive thing in the end!
Completely agree. I have essentially sat out almost 2 years now really, although have bought a few little things here and there.
Bottega Veneta today for work. Now I am waiting for some bottles that I bought from evilbay. Vintage Miss Dior and Gucci No3, both for 40€, which was a great price. Hope they are no fakes
Fingers crossed for you tannina!
It’s overcast and gloomy today. I’m staying inside and wearing Desarmant.
I’ve been looking at those L’Artisan amber balls for a couple of years now but just can’t bring myself to pay the asking price. Anyone here have experience with them? Are they worth it?
I’ve seen them on display… pretty, but not much throw. Of course who knows how long they’ve been sitting out in the store.
Ooh…Desarmant….
I have my eye on one too, on sale!
LPRN Black Perfecto. I think I like the bottle more than the perfume – not bad but the cherry gourmand thing isn’t really my jam these days.
A sweet looking bottle has caused me to buy perfume that I probably wouldn’t have if the juice was in something utilitarian. That was in my early days. I think that I am beyond that now. ?
I have a few of those – nice bottles but NEVER wear. I did actually have a decant of Black Perfecto before buying the bottle, so I knew I liked it well enough to wear on occasion.
Cherry gourmand seems to be my thing lately but I wonder how this one is that much different from the other LPRNs..I am guessing not a whole lot different.
Sharing beautiful fall weather with Elisa P today. What a gorgeous blue sky!
SOTD = L’Envol de Cartier EdP, from the sample stash. Nice and low key for a busy Monday.
I bet you smell great, still haven’t tried l’Envol, it’s on the list, though.
L’Envol definitely is a unisex or shared fragrance to my nose. Light honey and woods, but it sticks around for at least 12 hours on me. Worth a sniff, IMO.
Right? Glad you enjoyed it, too! Supposed to be back to rain tomorrow ? How’s Pixel kitty?
Pixel was a very good kitty and took all her medicine doses today. She’s doing well with her new prescribed kibble too. Now if only the other 2 cats wouldn’t eat it…
That’s great about Pixel kitty! Cats always seem to prefer what they’re not supposed to have ?
Relief!
Glad it was a nice wearing day for you?
I enjoyed all the lovely sunshine, for sure!
Smellin good!
If this doesn’t say Fall…

Oh wow! That’s absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the link.
Gorgeous!
Late check in today, for no good reason. Started out in Jacomo #08, which faded quickly, so went to Noir Epices. M’kay, now we’re rolling.
I have a small pork loin braising in the oven. It’s the Italian method of slowly cooking it in whole milk. Never tried it before, so we shall see.
Big thumbs up for Noir Épices.
Oh, I have not done that in years, hope it comes out delicious!
It was wonderful! A homely little thing, but that’s okay. Going into the regular rotation. ?
Yay! I have only made it from Marcella Hazan’s cookbook and should try something new.
It’s also good with chicken, I make this sometimes
Yum! Do you use a whole chicken?
Yes, I loosely follow a Jamie Oliver recipe for Chicken in Milk,
Ahh, thank you tannina! I found his recipe and a couple of utube videos related to it.
Interesting. I’m married to the mob (Just joking, but my last name ends with a vowel) My MIL was a phenomenal cook but never made it with milk. Of course, she didn’t care much for dairy except ice cream so that may explain it. Do you know which part of italy the recipe hails from? So curious..
Hi Petunia! The recipe (which was delicious) comes from All About Braising, by Molly Stevens. I can’t recommend this cookbook highly enough. Her recipes are very detailed and accurate.
Anyway. The recipe intro credits Marcella Hazan, and states it is a Bolognese recipe. There are a lot of versions floating around…Stevens mentions that cooks from the Veneto marinate the pork overnight in white wine and vinegar. I found a version that adds nutmeg, which sounds great.
This link isn’t very pretty, but it’s the recipe from the book:
https://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/475636/#b
Enjoy!
Aww. Thanks so much Nancy! My MIL would be much more apt to use the wine/vinegar recipe. It sounds yummy.
Most welcome! ?
Totally exhausted after a bad night’s sleep (courtesy of snoring husband who of course feels happy and rested, why am I so grouchy he asks?), a trip to Costco (had to haul everything in myself because he tripped and hurt his knee), the dish soap leaked into the car floor mats (so then I had to wash them in the driveway), and just after we returned from Costco my SIL dropped in for an hourlong chat, uninvited (I despise people who drop in and impose on your time, as if you had nothing else planned for your day). Why yes I’m feeling quite cranky. Husband is banished to the couch tonight and I have drenched myself in HG Dilettante.
Tomorrow can only be better, I hope. I would be happy to be drenched in Dilettante.
It was wonderful. I looooove Dilettante.
Snoring husband? Ai yi yi. I know and understand that aggro very well.
Oy, I hope tomorrow is better!
That’s quite a day! Glad your hubby arrived there safely. I hope you have a much better day tomorrow.
SOTD = Jorum Studio Trimerous
Powdery, musky, vanillic, herby, vetiver, and fougere-like orris with a tinge of hay / tobacco. Absolutely delightful! This was what I finally picked up from FedEx after it had taken several rides inside a FedEx truck. The box looked beat up but the inside was very well padded with packing peanuts, the bottle inside a foam cutout inside a sturdy green box. It was yesterday’s SOTD and here was the IG post:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B32Ut_yhFB2/?igshid=1w9m52dxhz6hl
In other news, I heard from Brenda, the new owner of Sonoma Scent Studio, and she basically reiterated what a number of people here said: it’s a pre-order and will ship in November. She offered to refund my money if I could not wait ?. Not happy with the tone of her email but I’ll see how things progress once the it’s operationally BAU.
I was attending a conference today and walked to the venue from Penn Station. I witnessed a sanitation worker having seizures (looks like epileptic as opposed to cardiac but I’m not a medical professional) on the ground while his co-worker thought he was faking it and yelled at him to stop. It was quite upsetting to witness as I walked by (I was in the other side of the street) and I asked one of the people who just stood there to watch if he was aware of 911 being contacted and he said he thinks so. At that point, I had nothing more to contribute and so I moved on. I hope the worker is ok. On a nicer end, I won a drawing for 1 of 10 $50 Amazon gift card. Looks like I can spend double that and consider it perfumath free ?.
I haven’t been reading all of the posts, which perfume is a pre-order? Is there a newer release from them?
No newer releases. I would say it’s in soft opening right now.
Congratulations on the win! Do you know yet what you will use it for?
Don’t know yet …
Congrats on your Amazon card windfall! But ugh, sorry you witnessed that seizure incident. I would have been extremely upset about something like that. ?
There were a good number of people just hanging around looking at the scene.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Glad your parcel finally arrived! That’s quite the ordeal. And I hope the worker guy was looked after.
Thanks for the update on SSS; I think I’ll pass for now! Money saved.
Your perfume sounds lovely, glad it arrived safely! Sad incident with the sanitation worker, hopefully he was helped quickly. And congrats on your win!
I have witnessed that in public once and it is unnerving- so
glad that you had the presence of mind to get someone to respond. Congratulations on your win. I have 2 samples from SSS on preorder and think that I will fall hard for Jour Ensoleille.
From Sunday night: my skin had gotten very dry because I hadn’t brought any body lotion with me on our trip to New York state. I slathered on some baby lotion when I went to bed. I woke up a couple of times, and tried to figure out a fragrance that wouldn’t clash with the remaining scent of baby lotion. I thought Fresh Sugar Lychee did relatively well at not clashing. A few hours later I put on a bit of The Different Company Osmanthus. I think by the time I got up for the day today, I had kind of a fruity-sweet-powdery combo going, with perhaps a bit of muskiness from all the half-asleep mixing. lol
I’ll likely experiment with some other fragrance at bedtime tonight. This time I have an unscented moisturizing lotion on, so I don’t have to worry about clashing there. 🙂
You go girl with the experiments!
lol. Thanks!
Where in NY was your trip? If I’m being too nosy, no need to answer.
I mentioned it here very late last night on the weekend post. We went to Cold Spring for the wedding of a cousin of mine. It’s a long drive for us. We drove up Friday. The wedding was Saturday. My cousin and his bride had beautiful weather for their day. The wedding and reception sites were very scenic — absolutely lovely. It was nice to catch up with a number of relatives. We came home on Sunday. We were exhausted.
Glad to hear that the bride & groom had nice weather for their big day. Are you rested up today, or will it take another day to recover from all the festivities?
I’m still playing catch up on comments tonite. Eeeek!
Somewhat rested. I should go to bed soon. Have a good rest of the week! 🙂
Scent of the late evening: Farmacia Ss. Annunziata Vaniglia del Madagascar. Just one spray was plenty. It’s far more concentrated than many of the fragrances I use. I may add a chocolate fragrance to it later, or the LUSH Cardamom Coffee. For now I’m good, though. I find vanilla scents soothing. Among other things, Petunia sent me a number of vanilla samples in the freebiemeet. (Thank you, Petunia! Such an assortment of neat things to try!) I’ve got to get together with my friends who like sniffing different perfumes to try those. 🙂
SSS Voile de Violette sample. Nice but me and violet tend to not mesh together super well. Sometimes we do when she’s warmed up a bit by other notes.
Wearing Iris 39 tonight. I started this morning with Chanel No 19 soap during my shower; it’s just lovely! I then used some C&E Iris lotion afterwards; it all seemed to fly under the radar at work as no one said anything.
Yay for sneaking under the perfume radar!
Yes! I may try again tomorrow with Heure Exquise. That one has worked as well.
All my favorites!
I hope you found a lovely perfume today, Robin.
I started today off with Chanel Chance Eau Vive, and now after a shower I am wearing Hove Camellia.
Late, so not likely anyone will read this, but was in Alien today. I have a interview tomorrow so contemplating what to wear (scent, that is. I have an outfit planned).
Wow, that was fast! Good luck Kelly!
We were twins! The best of luck to you!
Wishing you good luck!
