Tuesday and the International Day of Rural Women. Birthdays today: Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse. What fragrance are you wearing?
I have a dab of Memo Kedu on one hand, but I'm mostly wearing Fendi Theorema to cut the morning chill. Tea at the moment is a Hao Ya from Upton.
Reminder: on 10/18, wear a fragrance by Maria Candida Gentile, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, Memo Paris or Miller et Bertaux if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter M.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is the porcelain Daisy teapot from PotteryJo in Stockholm, about $70 at Nordic Nest.
One of my favorite quotes by Nietzsche:
“You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”
I’m in SB Smoked Ambergris for a rainy grey day. If it were a few degrees cooler, we’d be having snow.
I had a patient a couple weeks ago who told me the following story. We were talking about family when he teared up and told me about his late wife. She had previously been married and had a child but had divorced her then husband due to domestic violence issues. When they met he knew right away that he would marry her, and he eventually did and they had many happy years together.
Two weeks after she passed, he found an envelope addressed to him in one of his books. It was a letter from the wife who listed pages And pages of Thank You’s to him for the wonderful changes he made in her life and how grateful she was for the millions of things that made him HIM!
Omg, I needed a box of tissues after that! ?
Sometimes people can be wonderful!
That is such a lovely story, thank you for sharing!
How touching your patient shared his story with you. And the quote, wouldn’t it be great if everyone applied that to their life. I know it would be helpful in my life to follow. Thank you for the inspiration today!
Joining you. ?
How do you like the SB SA?
Very touching! Always nice to hear happy endings.
What a lovely and touching story! ?
Oh my gosh just reading your story made me cry just reading it. Thanks for sharing.
She knew him well to have left it in a book. Very touching. Thanks for sharing.
I am having another Italian morning..but I won’t bore you with all the details.
SOTD Omnia
SipOTD Espresso
Oh, I was surfing the web the other day for a BUB of Omnia. You smell fabulous!
Thank you Deva, somehow I think of you when I use it because I know you like it.
Did you find anything?
Maybe the evil bay?
No, it’s still readily available at a great price. So I decided I didn’t need at BUB right now. ?
That’s exactly when you buy a BUB, methinks.
Exactly!
I’m wearing the wonderful and summery MPG Fraîche Passiflore.
You smell good Robin. I have to figure out where I’ve left my own bottle of Theorema.
In tea news: I’m miffed that one of my favourite teas, a chinese green flavoured with grapefruit flowers is no longer made. Apparently it’s not just perfume that gets discontinued 😉
That is so true, I’ve lost quite a few teas. Also sometimes buy a great tea and the next year it’s crappy because climate — it’s getting much harder to find a really top notch green oolong without paying a fortune.
I don’t drink a lot of oolongs. Which ones do you like?
I like very lightly oxidized green oolongs from Taiwan…Tea Trekker generally has the best, Upton has a few good ones, sometimes Ten Ren’s are great. But in general I think these kinds of teas are not as good as they were 10 years ago.
From Tea Trekker, last really good one I bought was Baozhong Winter Bouquet. It is very expensive but you can resteep several times. And I usually buy one or another of their Milk Oolongs when I run out.
You smell fabulous Robin! Woke up this morning wearing Lyric. I am going to work soon and got a plan. When everyone in my department goes home for the night, I am going to apply vintage Jicky on either my calf or my stomach. It’s still bothering me about what the manager said about the perfume and how I can’t wear it anymore. Doesn’t she realize that just about everything has perfume in it? And I can do as I please at home? What about the customers that drench themselves in perfume, you going to tell them they can’t wear it? The minority wants to control the majority.
That should work!
I hope you sprayed your Jicky!
in OJ Elixir Ta’if. It seems to have added depth/warmth compared to the original Ta’if? I like all the Elixirs i’ve tried so far 😀
Are the elixirs an extrait or a edp?
It’s not specified, and it seems to depend on the perfume! According to a Fragrantica comment, Isfarkand, Osmanthus and Royal Elixir have concentrations of 42%, while Ormonde and Ta’if Elixir mantain the same concentration as the original line with the addition of 1% oud.
I bet you smell amazing.
Nice teapot, Robin! And quite affordable IMHO.
SOTD = Maria Candida Gentile Sideris

Full points for me today. The incense, benzoin and resins work really well with today’s cool weather. I think the birds are confused. Going home yesterday, there was one flock of birds going south and another going north. I don’t know if the northbound flock turned around. ??♀️
Twins a day apart! I was in Sideria yesterday. ?. You smell great today!
I was surprised at how affordable that teapot was, although still true that I’ve never spent anything like that much on a teapot 🙂
You smell fantastic.
Sideris is one of the specials on sale at Twisted Lily right now.
Incense, benzoin, and resins sound great, no matter what the season!
Back after long abscence. SOTD – caramel leather, Frassai Tissendu
welcome
Welcome back!
Welcome back, Clarissa!
Hi!?
Yay! Lovely to see you back here!
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Nice to see you back!
I’m always a little bit jealous when you wear Theorema Robin, as it’s so hard to find. I will console myself thinking of my second fall buy (please look away Donatella) VCA’s Moonlight Patchouli, that is on its way.
BeautyEncounter used to sell it but not sure if they do anymore.
Thank you! Just checked: unfortunately out of stock. Oh well, so many other scents to fall in love with ?
I found my first bottle in one of those crappy stalls in a mall!
That’s a lucky find for sure!!
That’s such a good one! Donatella will forgive you!
Tuesday!
1) Am trying out Gabrielle Essence by Chanel. I think that this is more of a centered and ‘sparkling’ white floral than Gabrielle. Not sweet; there an almost tinge of citrus that one associates with Hermes, but beautifully blended with the other white flower scents. Lovely and very elegant. Highly recommend.
2) Our database move is…fun.
Your SOTD sounds nice. You giving me hope about Chanel.
It’s really lovely! Please give it a try!
Glad to hear the new Chanel is nice. Will give it a sniff when I see it.
Good mini-review! I like this one so much more than Gabrielle.
Thank you! I really though this was so well done!
Miller & Bertaux (sigh) Oh, ooHoh …oh.
Lol love your sigh. I think some of their ridiculous names are part of their charm. However, IIRC the one you’re wearing has the most ridiculous name. I gave my decant to my boyfriend years ago and he always enjoyed telling me what he was wearing.
Hahaha I’ll bet he did! Sounds like something my DH would do. ?
???
I am wearing a dab of Parfums Delrae Bois de Paradis, sadly discontinued. It’s a powerhouse, so maybe the half-bottle I have will last me a long time…….
Have you ever tried Noir Epices from Frédéric Malle? Same perfumer, similar theme. They are not that much alike but they sort of fill a comparable niche in my collection.
I love Bois de Paradis, and I’m so glad I got my DelRaes when I did, so I share your sadness.
I haven’t tried Noir Epices – thanks for the recommendation!
Clean skin in anticipation for Under My Skin by Francesca Bianchi, blind buy. Has anyone tried this or any from the line?
I have not tried any from the line, but it’s high on my list of brands to try. I hear a lot of good things about her perfumes. Do report back!
Under my skin is amazing. Very interesting take on sandalwood. All of her fragrances are very interesting, although some of them (lover’s tale, sex and the sea) are very challenging.
I had wanted to sample her line, but kind of fell off my radar since no one mentions them much. Looking forward to hearing your impressions!
I have a decant, but i seldom wear it. Its a very sexual skin scent for me
Whoa. Just arrived. It’s sultry, cannot even describe.
Too sultry to describe? Wow.
Ikr?! I’m looking it up as soon as I get out of work tonight!
? This is why I ❤️ you ?
Ha! You just made my morning!❤?
Ha, I have a hard time describing perfumes. It did dry down with a little cumin, might be the leather. But it is very va vavoom.
Cumin doesn’t bother me in the least! ?
The Makeupalley fragrance board is doing a sotd week called Too Fabulous, to wear perfumes that you don’t wear often because they’re too special or heavy hitting or for whatever reason just not made for everyday wear. Don’t really have an M for the CP here this week; what I thought was a reaction to the flu shot turned out to be a massive cold coming on so I’m at home today wearing Angel, eek! I do really like it but hardly ever wear it, there’s almost a numbing effect to large amounts. I feel kind of like I’m doing this for science lol 😀
Great idea! Boy, I have not been to the MUA board in ages, I should check it out. Are you a regular there?
I am, old habits die hard, but it’s never been the same since swapping was discontinued. Then earlier this year the owners tried to revamp the site which was a disaster; the boards all disappeared among many other glitches that took over a month to redo. They lost a lot of members and many went to reddit and other places. Still, MUA and NST are the places I trust for honest reviews and perfume lovers and I’m so glad this community exists, Robin 🙂
Oh and I’m still rosarita on MUA. I don’t remember why it stopped working on NST years ago but it’s all me.
Thank you! I should have remembered that but I barely remember my own name. I used to be LastTrainHome there, I wonder if that account still exists.
Yesterday’s bread pudding turned out really well, so I’m having some for breakfast. The silly dog doesn’t like his new bed, too puffy I think, so I’ve put the old one on top, hoping to trick him into laying down on it and discovering puffy is good when you’re 10. I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas.
If that doesn’t work, can you bury some treats in the folds/niches of the fluffy bed? That might help.
i love your breakfast..
What a yummy breakfast! Bread pudding is even better the next day. ?
Your breakfast sounds delish!
Wearing Grandiflora Queen of the Night today.
Tomorrow I have to stay at work until 7 PM because we have some stupid training on how to ‘manage your energy at work’…
One time my son who works for Amazon had a meeting about work-life balance and he said they couldn’t find any other time to hold it than 6pm on a Friday. Riiiiight.
Excellent.
Sounds pretty much like first step to disproportion this work-personal life balance 😛
Good grief. I wonder if they think people are using too much energy or are low energy…
The Amazon thing is hilarious.
It does sound ridiculous, yes.
“Stupid” is a good word to describe that meeting! What a waste of time.
I have the flu or something a lot like it. Today is the first day in a couple that I can get out of bed and think that maybe I won’t die after all.
So I’m just popping in to say hello and that if I were wearing something (pointless as I can’t smell anything), it would be something warm and comforting like maybe my CJ Scents Vanilla Incense.
oh geez..
Did you get your Flu Shot?
Ironically, I did – but I think I was too late. People at work were getting sick all around me so I got the shot last Wed. Got sick Saturday.
Yeah, not long enough to build enough antibodies. I think it takes weeks. But, glad you’re gonna live! I hope you continue to feel better.
Yikes. Continue to take it easy. Relapses are dangerous.
Oh yuck! What a bummer.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon!
I’m wearing Timbuktu.
That’s a good one.
Very nice!
Oh dear. I have just discovered candy corn flavored m&ms. Yummy.
Celebrating this perfect October day with Mitsouko and a cup of Kusmi St. Petersburg. I decided I really did need more and bought another tin. I also got a sample box, so set on tea for a while. Am actually rather proud of myself; I have drunk my way through a considerable amount of my tea stash the last two or three months.
Day off, and I should be doing and should be doing housework, but am reading instead.
Mitsouko and October is a perfect match! I think I will join you in both scent and tea this afternoon.
Sounds like a perfect afternoon!
I am going through a tea thing also. My afternoon tea is Nocturne Oriental by MF. Its almost impossible to find online in the loose leaf refill. Now I am wondering what shall I do now that its finished ;(
Tea is like books and perfume; never enough time to try them all…
Reading is a great way to spend a day off.
SOTD is Papillon Artisan Dyad. While I love the perfume’s concept, it’s not the right fit for me today. I’m wondering whether it would be a good fit for summer. The scent is wonderfully dry, which I might have appreciated more when I lived in a wet climate.
I loved the narcissus note in that one, but the narcissus faded fast and then it got very soft and quiet, like milkweed fluff. Beautiful.
I’m testing samples of Byredo roses today. Rose of No Man’s Land, because Dorsey wore it on Saturday, and Rose Noir.
RoNML is very pretty, but I dumped the whole 1ml vial on my arm and am getting only moderate sillage. The Rose Noir started off with a bang, but has faded too. Hmm, it may be time for some Rossy soon! ? ?
I liked RoNML, better than Rose Noir. Rose Noir’s drydown was so bland and a bit saw dusty smelling to me. Rossy is in her own class!
What Elisa said. ?
Yep, for all of the big punch up front, the drydown was ho hum.
There was something almost camphorous in the opening of Rose Noir. Don’t know if you or Petunia got that. Thankfully, it was brief.
Hmmm, I don’t remember that. I just remembered thinking it wasn’t “noir”, lol. It reminds me of Dior La Colle Noire which is also in the fresher rose category.
I wore 31 Rue Cambon edt for a job interview this afternoon, I love this perfume so much!- and I was offered the job after the interview! So tired and relieved now, enjoying the heavenly dry down. Does anyone know how the edp compares? I need to get another decant!
isn’t it gorgeous? I think 31 RC is your lucky perfume.
Congrats!
Congrats to you! I hope it’s a great job experience!
Congratulations on the new role!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congrats!
And you smell classy 🙂
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Oh that’s fantastic! Congratulations!
Yay!
Congrats!
Congratulations! Thais should be a CP – wear your lucky perfume…not sure if we had done this before?
Jour d’Hermes Absolu for some golden warmth today. I really love this stuff- good no brainer, especially for work
Wish I’d waited & bought the Absolu…you smell great!
You smell great!
I have to post and run. SOTD is Sideris but I’ll be back later to read comments.
I think you have at least one scent twin today…
Yay, scent twin!
I don’t have any of the specific ‘M’s, but I do have Majda Bekkali’s Mon Nom est Rouge, and that is an appropriately warm scent for a cold day. We haven’t quite seen off winter yet. We had a very mild winter, but spring hasn’t brought much of a change – there has been the odd nice day, but it’s been mostly rubbish so far.
Sorry!
SotD is Rahele!
I had a lovely day. I spent quality time with my dad, just the two of us and I really need to do this more often.
We visited a museum in a charming old town, had coffee, took the ferry, enjoyed a drive through the gorgeous Dutch river landscape (dykes, floodplains, orchards), visited another charming old towns, and we finished the afternoon in a pub and talked history, politics, society.
What a great day with your dad!
Betuwe?
Yup!
Culemborg (Elizabeth Weeshuismuseum)
And then we drove to Wijk bij Duurstede (via Veer Beusichem).
I’ve never been to Culemborg but I have visited Wijk. I was very agreeably surprised. Quite a nice town. And I adore those old ferries.
Have you been to Tiengemeten yet? If not, highly recommended.
No I have not, thanks for the recommendation. Still so much to explore in our small country! ☺️
So glad you enjoyed a day with your dad! And you smell wonderful.
Very heartwarming!
SJP Covet today. Had a doctors appointment today and have to have a 24h blood pressure. I always had low pressure, but thanks to menopause its getting higher now. I think i will need meds now. I feel old 🙁
Mine drifted up a bit too. I think menopause wreaked havoc for awhile in me and then my body adjusted.
I think menopause is just a major biological disaster. ? I wish it could somehow be done differently.
Interestingly orcas go through it as well. I often wonder whether they have hot flushes.
I feel old too, but we smell great!?
Started the day in the double M of Masque Milano, specifically Kintsugi. Don’t particularly like the salty clay note so I washed it off as best I could at work and am now in Petit Cherie from my purse perfume emergency stash
I will try Kinstsugi one more time. It was not a wow the e first 2 times.
I have so much perfume and so many samples that if something isn’t at least a strong like, I won’t even bother with it again
I was disappointed with Kintsugi. It seems well-made enough, but I don’t find it nearly as interesting, beautiful, or compelling as some of their other perfumes. It could be that it just isn’t my preferred style.
Points anyway, for trying!
Sampling MK Wonderlust. I found an old random Juicy Couture sample and decided to add a spritz to the Wonderlust. Interesting combo and kind of nice, lol….
I recently got a sample of Wonderlust Sublime. It’s the beachy version. I’m saving it for winter to cheer me up.
I really like Wonderlust Sublime! It reminds me of a floral Bronze Goddess. I might get a bottle once it hits the discounters. ?
Kelly Calèche EDT for me and then I decided to add the extrait. The extrait works better on skin for me…I got some on my sleeve and it has an edge it doesn’t have on the skin. Interesting. Good for today’s crisp weather.
Had to do my official weigh in a day early, which was a drag because I really wanted to hit my 25 lb milestone. Which I did! More to go, but this was a big one for me.
To add to the day’s pleasantries, I stopped off at post office to mail my sister’s bday gift, but there was a huge line so I decided to go back after taking care of other stuff. Still a huge line over an hour later. Then I realized. Tax deadline for those who filed extensions. I decided to wait. It was over 30 minutes. But…I spent the whole time chatting with the nice lady in line behind me. Happened to be a quite successful actress whom I recognized immediately. Yes, they don’t all have people to do those things for them…. Made the wait go faster. But, boy, people were not happy about the line. I tried to be pleasant to the woman working there.
And we are off tomorrow for a quick overnight trip up along the Hudson for our anniversary. Woo hoo!
Congrats on the weight loss!
I’ve never tried Kelly extrait, but have tried the edp and own a bottle of the edt.
Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!
That’s great! And adding my anniversary wishes. Nice little getaway- I hope the weather holds up!
Congrats on hitting your milestone. And happy anniversary!
Congrats!
Happy anniversary! It seems a bit surreal when you bump into someone famous. I once turned my head and saw Renee Zellweger standing nearby in an antiques store. Did a double take because it was so unexpected.
Happy Anniversary and congrats on your milestone!
Congratulations on both your milestone and your anniversary! Enjoy! ???
Congrats on meeting that goal. And you smell great!
Congratulations on the 25 lbs gone forever and on your anniversary!
My SOTD is a sample of PdN Ambre Cashmere Intense. Given my large collection from this line it’s crazy I haven’t tried it before. I suppose it’s because amber is so well represented in my stash that I decided to try other things. I do like it but not sure i need it (unless I drain a few decants of other ambers first.)
Lovely late afternoon sunshine here. Tomorrow will be a much needed rain day… somehow, my area went from having too much rain during the summer to a mild drought here in autumn. Crazy.
SOTD = still commando, but I sniffed a couple of newer perfume samples this morning. Pixel kitty continues her recovery.
Yay Pixel kitty!
Thanks ScentSpirit!
Glad to hear she is improving. Is she eating her goo?
Not willingly. I’ve managed to give her a couple of doses despite that, though.
Glad to hear your kitty is better! We’re having the same weather here.
Thanks, November Rose!
Hurray for Pixel’s recovery!
Her demeanor has improved so much over the past day or so.
?? Pixel Kitty ?
Yay for kitty!
I’m so happy for you and pixel-kitty.
Sotd is Mugler Aura. It’s a good dreary day choice.
“You’re a Mugler girl, in a Mugler world….” ?
LOL! That’s me?
Byredo Palermo. I smelled nice for about an hour.
It was a sample, I hope, and not a FB?
Lol at least it was a good hour.
Maria Candida Gentile Lankaran Forest today. I think this is a really great scent for a fall day that starts out kinda warm but cools off in the evening.
Thanks for all of the good vibes yesterday. My foot is healing well and the xrays look great. The doc said to keep it taped for another 2 weeks but overall it’s healing nicely-yay!
Glad it’s healing well. We are house twins!
So late that I’m sure no one will read this, but I wore MCG Barry Lyndon overtop MCG Leuco. Leuco was so faint that I had to put something on top of it. I really like BL and regret not getting a bottle fast enough when Twisted Lily had it for sale.
Tonight I’m trying a couple from my Sixteen92 order arrival today, Vlad Dracul and I Believe in Mary Worth. Enjoying them both – VD is a Christmasy masculine that will smell good on my boyfriend and IBiMW is based on Bloody Mary. The latter is sweet violets, “melted candle wax”, cherries, “tarnished silver”, and musk. It’s really nice!
