Quick PSA: the swapmeet is open!
Today's poll is a rerun from 2010 and 2016, and it's easy as pie: choose one (really! only one!) fragrance that you don't think gets enough attention, and tell us why you think it's so special.

Goddess of rain has blessed us with her spell this weekend. It’s been a long time since it rained for a whole day and I’m kind of happy about it, considering how cool and fresh the air smells. Extreme heat front from Africa is also gone.
Only one more week until I leave on vacation. Really looking forward to it and already started packing.
SotD is Aedes Pelargonium.
Enjoy your vacation!!!
Thank you 🙂
Depending upon your perspective, the week before could either be the best or the worst. Safe travels!
Not enough attention goes to Paco Rabanne Calandre, because it is beautiful and REALLY smells as described. Best blind buy ever!!
SOTD is Moonlight Patchouli by Van Cleef & Arpels. Wonderful sheer rose+ patchouli. The second patchouli ever I’m considering buying a FB of (after Idylle Duet rose+patchouli).
+ 2 to my must sniff list…
Moonlight Patchouli was my sotd yesterday.
Lovely! Are you a patchouli fan? I’m not really a fan, but in this perfume it’s not medicinal or heavy. And so well paired with rose!
I hate patchouli.
I wore it as Best in Class iris without iris in the name.
To me it’s an iris perfume.
Not lucas, but like you, I get rose & patchouli.
I wore Calandre in the late 1970s. Didn’t even know it was still around. Paco Rabanne Metal which I wore in the early 1980s was equally as stunning but impossible to come by now.
But can I still find Calandre?
Just checked. Fragrancenet sells it for $35
Didn’t manage to post yesterday but wore Coromandel as Best in Class Patchouli.
Today I am in Samsara, a perfume I’ve definitely neglected, but threw on after making up some Guerlain samples for an IRL perfume friend. She is just tumbling down the rabbit hole, so hadn’t sniffed any Guerlain and expressed an interest in doing so based on something she read somewhere. I’m not entirely sure she knows Guerlain is a house and not a singular perfume! In any case she’s getting a bunch of samples today.
Oh my, your friend is in for it! I fell down the Guerlain rabbit hole about 5 or 6 years ago – such a newcomer. I’m still down there, marveling at Neroli Outrenoir and Mon Guerlain!
Well, I wish I could say I have out-of-the ordinary ones for her. Just some obvious ones: Samsara, Shalimar, Mitsouko, L’Heure Bleu, LPRN Black Perfecto. But we don’t even have stores with samples of those, other than Shalimar. So it’s a start!
I haven’t sniffed Mon Guerlain yet, and of course want to smell ALL OF THEM.
I think there’s a Guerlain counter at Neiman Marcus in SF? If anyone in Bay Area reads this and can corroborate, please advise!
Yes, there is a lovely Guerlain counter at NM in SF.
There’s a Guerlain counter not far from me in Maryland. I kinda wish there weren’t because it’s such a tease. I think maybe Mon Guerlain is at Sephora, though.
Samsara for me too, twin! Although I wear Samsara year round I like it as the weather begins to get cooler. Such a beautiful scent.
I overdosed on samsara. It happens. I loved it, though.
Nice of you to get some samples together for you friend!
Just about everything from Parfums Divine. I’ve sampled 5-6 scents from this house (and bought a bottle of L’Homme Sage many years ago), and they have all been really, really well done.
I was thinking Divine when I read the title of this post. They’ve created a good and consistent collection over the years. My favourite is their original Divine, which is great as an edp and even better in extrait de parfum.
Would be surprised if they didn’t make a showing in the last 2 polls. Divine & PdN are like permanent underdogs.
AND, they both offer their scents in small sizes, which I sincerely appreciate from any perfume house.
Ditto this!
I think they must bel selling somewhere. PdN has opened another shop in Paris and Divine has moved to a better location there, so I’m sure they have their fans.
Oh, agree. Just think much duller (and more expensive) brands sell much more!
Definitely!
But as long as they manage to survive I’m not complaining. They have both been around since the eighties and that is a very long time in perfume these days.
I haven’t really ever explored the Divine line, and it sounds like I should! I know I’ve liked the tiny sample of a L’Homme of theirs that I got as an extra in a swap years ago.
It is very much worth exploring if you like classical French perfumery.
I really have enjoyed the samples of the Divine EdP that I have when I wear them.
Woke up this morning and it looked like snow. Felt like it, too. Fall is MIA. ?
I’m in SSS Bee’s Bliss in solidarity with hajusuuri. This is a neglected perfume in my collection because it leans just a bit too floral for me to really love it. I only have a travel spray and will probably never use it up, but occasionally, it works just fine. I don’t have anything similar so it fills an empty niche in my “collection.”
Happy swapping to all over in the swapmeet. Hope you get your heart’s desire❤️
I also wanted to give a shout out to the nice people that offered to send me a sample/decant of Casmir after I expressed interest in it earlier this week. You know who you are! Some wonderful folks here!
Listen, if you change your mind and want Casmir or anything else for that matter you know where to find me ?
Thank you, I’ll keep it in mind. ?
I keep hearing about Bee’s Bliss. I wonder if it will be brought back when SSS begins again.
I haven’t heard anything other than the company was sold, but there are many here that are more in touch with the goings on in the perfume world. I hope the original perfumes come back, because there are quite a few I love.
I signed up for the email notifications but haven’t heard anything. I hope all the fragrances come back and NOT with a hefty price increase.
I have seen several posts on Facebook from the new owner, I recommend you follow the page for the latest updates.
The first batches are macerating now, not sure which scents she started with but I am receiving Facebook updates, should hear something soon.
I’m probably the last person on earth NOT on Facebook, so thanks for the update.
Deva I am not on Facebook either. That would explain why I know nothing LOL ? ?
Neither am I. I used to be for a school project a couple of years ago, but have since deleted my account. I know nothing either 😉
Good to know. I suppose I should friend SSS in Facebook. I tend to only use it to see what my cousins are up to.
I’m not on Facebook either.
Also not on Facebook!
I hope so. I need a vat of it.
Your sotd is very touching.
Boo to it feeling like snow! You’re in North Dakota? Sometimes I see snow in October.
Winter may be a bit hyperbolic, but where are the clear, sunny, crisp days of fall? It’s grey and overcast, in the low to mid 50’s, and damp…☹️
Yes, that sounds like late October / early November…
Well dang it, it was 99 degrees in Pasadena today.
After living in LA forever, I bought a fast pass for the first time for my new project commute. I am expecting a lot from my 40 clam a month investment.
I hope you get what you expect and more. 99F is death to me. I’ll take my current weather any day. Although, I’ll still complain about it. ?Stay cool!
The Dakotas are certainly not the PacNW (are you in the Dakotas? I lost track somewhere…), but having spent many years in the latter, “clear, sunny, crisp days of fall” are not a thing. Fall is flood season and early fall is cold, wet, grey & overcast. I’m not sure exactly where those “clear, sunny, crisp days of fall” happen, but I’d love to experience it. 😉
❤️❤️❤️???
And I am very hopeful about Fall in the Northeast. Maybe you should make your way over here ?

That’s a FANTASTIC shot!!!!!
Thank you dear. I am going to make it into note cards to use as thank you notes for those who sent cards, flowers and/or participated in the memorial! I am manipulating the colors a little bit more to make the leaf pop.
Oh that’s a brilliant idea!!!
Maine is on my radar….?
Then as you head south, make sure you stop by NY:NJ because we all want to meet you!
Yes! This!
Baiser de Russie this early and gorgeous morning. Fall is in the air in NYC. Hope it stays around awhile….
Question: anyone tried Arancia di Sicilia by Perris Monte Carlo? I saw it mentioned on Instagram and the notes look tempting.
I’ve been curious about Arancia di Sicilia, too!
In the air in southern PA too! Seems too early, but it is lovely out.
Haven’t tried that Perris perfume yet, but I’m also more interested to try it after an enticing Instagram post. It was probably the same post you saw! However, I did order and just receive a couple days ago samples of the two Jean Claude Elena perfumes for Perris, Jasmin de Pays and Rose de Mai. I’ll report back after trying them.
I’m sure it was the same post. It’s the almond that got me….
Where did you order the samples? Those interested me also.
Indigo Perfumery, and the best part is they sell samples in spray form! Still just for $4 for most samples. In addition to those two, I ordered Bengale Rouge, Masque Kintsugi, and Pont des Arts A Chaque Instant.
It was the almond in Arcania that caught my attention too.
Thanks! I ordered some samples from there. They have an interesting brand list. Many I don’t really know.
Hope the fall air sticks around for you!
I posted a late correction yesterday, but the event at Arielle Shoshana with Ormonde Jayne founder Linda Pilkington is not today but rather tomorrow, Sunday, September 8, 1-3 pm.
As for under-appreciated fragrances, I think Santa Maria Novella is a better and more interesting brand than many more admired lines, especially given its reasonable price point.
I’ll admit that this may be a distribution problem. We’re lucky to have a SNM boutique at Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights in the DC area. It would be a better smelling world if more people had a chance to explore this line and find their signature SNMs!
My SMN signature is Melograno which I adore. I agree it’s an underrated line. Maybe because it’s not as accessible?
I think that’s it. Melograno is a great example of how wearable and versatile SMN is for the most part. They do have a few wonderfully weird ones, too.
I agree. Melograno is so good and it has a vintage vibe to it. I sent a sample to a good perfume pal and she loved it so much that I had to send her more.
Distribution AND sizing problem! They need travel sprays.
Yes!
BTW, I went to Sephora last week and was astonished by how many perfumes they have in rollerballs now, including some of the niche lines that they sell. Such a great way to introduce a more people to perfume!
I know many prefer sprays to rollerballs, but I’m hoping the rollerballs might help people learn that they can smell great without over spraying?
There are more sprays in the rollerball size and shape available all the time, especially at Sephora and Ulta.
Enforced portion control 😉
I’m in new EdP 31 Rue Cambon, which I like at a very similar level to the EdT (which I’m on my second bottle of). One loses the lemon-lime opening of the EdT but the sillage is longer and stronger. I also pick up on a distinct star anise phase in the heart of the EdP that I adore.
I think Epice Marine is one of my favorite underrated perfumes (that you can still find). That salty spicy opening is pure heaven to me. I could easily use a 200ml bottle up if I had it.
I like both Rues, too, preferring the edt, though. I have this dream that one day they’ll bring out an extrait!
Good to know about Rue in edp, most heartening!
Jessica McClintock: a gorgeous, green lily-of-the-valley spritz for spring. It was my first real fall down the rabbit hole in 1995. It’s still my No. 1 favourite perfume.
It really is beautiful. I wore through ar least 3 bottles over the years.
Sounds lovely! My 8th grade graduation dress was from the Jessica McClintock outlet in Reading, PA; I loved it so much.
That’s a great one! I wrote about it when I did my first May Muguet Marathon on my blog.
Is your bottle of Jessica McClintock vintage or current?
I’m wearing Cuir Cannage this chilly, overcast morning, from my 100ml “split” with a friend. The bottle was a huge 200ml, the last one in the store, and the scent is being discontinued so we went for it. I’m so glad. It’s really nice, a little less genteel than Chanel CdR, but not so masculine as Knize Ten.
I have swap offerings in the swap thread! Take a look–
Cuir Cannage deserves to be tried, and I think leathers generally are a bit underappreciated.
I adore Cuir Cannage and have two big bottles. You smell great. BTW I will be in Portland the first weekend of November for the sniffathon event, hope to see you there!
I rediscovered Ungaro’s Desnuda while visiting my sister down here in Charleston. I think I have a wee bit laying around at home. It’s soft and subtle, unlike it’s gorgeous sister Diva (which I love, too!)
Perhaps Ungaro as a brand is underrated!
I wouldn’t argue with that. ?
Reglisse Noire for underrated.
Infusion DIris for SOTD.
Just spent the whole morning with eldest Marzipan who is visiting for the weekend. It’s just amazing how my introverted quiet young girl has grown into a confident mature young woman with whom I can actually engage in an adult conversation with. She is loving her new career and while the nursing is challenging in a hospital setting she says she is learning and appreciates the opportunity to grow professionally. I am so proud of her ❤️.
Ooo! And forgot to add that she treated me to a gel manicure….first time in my life ! And insisted that I have my eyebrows and upper lip waxed….also a first for me!!! What a difference! I am liking this taking care of myself now that all the chicks have left the nest ??
A whole new rabbit hole! How fun to enjoy your adult offspring.
That’s right, Lizzie B!!! Manicures, nail salons and face/ hair care is a whole ‘nuther area to explore lol ?
Aw! I am proud of her too, in your honor. Good job.
Thank you, Robin ?? With all the worrying we do as parents it’s nice to have a positive outcome once in a while. Still waiting for the other two to catch up to her LOL ? ?
What a lovely tribute to your daughter! Congratulations on raising such a wonderful human.
I am also extremely proud of my nieces; one is an environmental engineer, the other is an interior designer with an architect’s firm. Both broke into a typically male-dominated industries.
That’s awesome.
Your eldest marzipan inspired me to go get a pedicure as well. It’s been ages and I’m happy she inspired me. Give her a pedicure enabler pin for her tiara. ?
Hee hee! Will do! She will be excited to get her first pin from a fellow nurse!! I tell her about you all the time and we have looked at pictures of TRex. My middle one who is currently a nursing student loves that you are a traveling nurse.
Love this! How lovely for you.
Thank you,floragal ?
Aww, how wonderful! You obviously did a good job raising her.
Thanks , c! It’s sooo nice that she’s finally making her own money ?
Hurray! It’s always great to see the fledglings fly successfully! Congratulations to her and to you. I have two young adult daughters and it is such fun to spend time with them. They joined me, hubby and teenaged son for a birthday dinner out last night; in fact, they picked the restaurant and made the reservation.
Oh that’s beautiful! I hope you had a lovely time last night! If it was your birthday, Happy birthday to you ?
And I realized you have the same configuration as I….two girls and a teenage boy.
Good job you!
Thanks, h! But I think she deserves all the credit. College was a great opportunity for her to learn and grow and challenge herself and she took full advantage. She is definitely not the person she was when she started.
True, but you and Mr. M. gave her the foundation. ?
This thread gave me a very happy case of the feels! ?
I am wearing old-formula Monsieur Balmain on one arm and new-formula on the other. I like the new one better! That’s a nice change. And, actually, I think Monsieur Balmain is a good answer to the poll question. The newer formulation is so beautiful and unusual and perfect. I would describe it, I kid you not, as a Very Sexy Lemon. It’s like a lemon skin scent, which I would not have thought possible. Everyone should try this!
I had big plans to participate in the swap but don’t think I’ll get my act together. I’ve taken on a planning role for a meetup for my feminist Facebook group, and hooboy is it taking a lot of my attention this week. Ah well, maybe in spring!
Sexy lemon! I love lemon anyway. Will need to look for this! What a nice surprise to like the new one better. Thanks for mentioning this one.
Looks like it is not easy to find – where did you find your new formula bottle?
On eBay – it’s the one in the kind of ugly 90s-modern yellow bottle with the bright-yellow cap. (The same one pictured in Kevin’s review, which you should probably also read for a different viewpoint from mine! A lot of people find new MB more chemical, but I think they’re nuts.)
Kevin did a comparison of the 2 but it was so long ago that your new must be newer than his new 🙂
You know, I don’t think so! My “new” is in the bottle pictured on Kevin’s review. I think I just disagree with him!
Oh, quite possible!
I love lemon, will have to try that one!
Felanilla for a grey overcast and slightly chilly morning. Now wearing Botrytis for dinner. Even the boyfriend says its not too bad….
Most underrated in my collection: Theo Fennel scent, a big perfume for an evening out!
You smelled fabulous all day!
I LOVE Theo Fennell Scent and totally agree that it’s underrated. I love it in the winter, especially.
You smell nice. I hosted a perfumista meetup when I visited Vancouver a few years back. Sad to say Theo Fennell Scent smelled like body odor to me and a no go ?
I have to say that most of my collection has been neglected for a long time. I have been focusing on trying new samples and decants to me, which I am enjoying. At some point I need to be back to my full bottles and most precious decants.
Wearing Ecco Bella Ambrosia (thanks KellyC!). Sweet fruity/floral scent. Very strong opening that fades into a nice, pretty scent.
Spending the day mostly in bed. For some weird reason I feel super exhausted, with no energy for anything. Wondering if the change on temps are affecting me. We had a fresh, windy, sunny, beautiful day today. I am keeping the windows open all the time now to enjoy the weather.
Have a happy and peaceful weekend, everyone!
I know the feeling of neglecting my bottles. Have to come up with a system for both wearing bottles and testing samples and Decants.
I hear you on the fatigue. I am already in bed LOL ? ?. I think it’s ok for you to listen to your body and not feel guilty about resting most of the day.
I will try to concentrate in my full bottles more. I also have to come up with a plan, so I don’t stop sampling.
Hope I have more energy tomorrow. So many things to take care of!
This time of year always puts me in hibernation mode. We need to rest up and store our energy for winter.
I am totally drained! We need all possible energy to face winter. This is just the beginning of a long journey to Springtime again. Let’s cheer up! ?
Hope you are relaxing and re-emerging.
I remember seeing Molly Shannon in an interview (probably on Jimmy Kimmel) talking about having a ‘bed day’ every once in a while. Sounds good to me!
Silly autocorrect. Re-energising, not re-emerging.
The “bed day” is so necessary! My body seems to shut down sometimes and no matter how much I push myself to move, it just don’t happen. I hope to feel better tomorrow after a full resting day today.
How do you feel today?
Thanks for asking, Hajusuuri! I feel much better today and already doing things at home. Hope to be 100% to start the workweek tomorrow. ??
Glad you’re feeling better! Next time, it should be 100% to start the weekend ?
Hope you get some good rest this weekend!
Thank you! It’s been nice and very quiet. Very comforting!
I think that an abrupt change in the weather can tire people out! My brother and I used to catch colds when we were kids if the weather was swinging between warm and cold in months like March and April.
I am blaming my lack of energy to the weather, but also to the few hours that I manage to sleep every day. I feel is a combination of many things. My body is just having a difficult time handling changes. Looking forward to a better week! ?
I nominate MFK APOM as under-appreciated. It’s a very beautiful light orange blossom scent that won’t offend anyone, yet it has some substance and character. It grows on you as you wear it. Unfortunately, it’s being discontinued, I learned yesterday from an SA at Neiman’s. I exhibited shock and she told me “Oh, they will put it out again. But they plan to rework it to make it more modern.” !! At this, I blurted out, “Oh no!” She seemed surprised by such emotion. Anyway, now is the time to buy some if you can find it!
It sounds like “reformulation” is not in SAs’ vocabulary!
Enjoyed a early morning walking tour of a church and cemetery up in Washington Heights — fascinating! Followed by a few hours of Mahjong. Such a fun day but also quite tired. Sad that Serena lost.. really lost. But, also good to see some of the younger players establishing themselves. Looking for a big win from Nadal tomorrow!
SOTD: Samsara
Also cheering for Nadal tomorrow! Fingers crossed! ??
Ha! Mahjong, I never learned how to play. My dad was pretty good and when he was in Portland 8 years ago for an extended period, he taught my sister in law’s mahjong group some tips.
I really enjoy playing and those I play with. Get to try all kinds of interesting Asian inspired foods too as we all bring something to share for lunch/snacking.
Also hoping for a Nadal victory!
Yay! We got it! What a match!!
I’ll think of something under-appreciated this evening, maybe.
Rambling about my real-life stuff: One of my doctors wanted me to try again with the medicine that can cause gastrointestinal upset, since I had a reaction to it a week after taking it last time, and that could have been from a stomach virus, instead. I didn’t have to be anywhere on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, so I tried it. This time I felt sick a few hours after trying it, but this time I was stocked with anti-emetics. Sunday and Monday ended up being pretty much lost to me, and the rest of the week hasn’t been super-productive, either. I’m finally *crosses fingers* feeling like the stuff has pretty much worked its way out of my system. So that was my week. I can tell Dr. K. that I tried that medicine again, and it was a “no.” I know other people have had much worse weeks, and it wasn’t even my own worst week, as weeks go. But it wasn’t comfortable. /End real-life update.
Once again today I was sorting through my samples to see what else folks might like to swap for. I’ll add onto my list on the swapmeet thread tonight or tomorrow.
Scent of the afternoon: I finally ended up putting LUSH Cardamom Coffee (from a solid perfume) on my wrists, figuring it would either be energizing or calming. I guess it kind of split the difference? I’ll layer something vanilla over it, and hope for calming.
I have all kinds of bad reactions to drugs so I can really sympathize. Hope things are better for you this coming werk.
Aw, thank you. 🙂 I think they will be.
Layered Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee over the Cardamom Coffee. I think it goes together pretty well, and I’m finding the combination comforting.
That sounds rather tasty as well as being comforting. “Vanilla Cardamom Coffee” would be a great drink for $tarbuck$ to carry.
lol. I agree with it sounding tasty. Maybe I’ll make my own real-life version of this imaginary coffee sometime. I’ve got plenty of cardamom. 🙂
Ugh that sounds no fun at all. Hope this week is much better!
Feeling much better now, thanks! 🙂
I hope you are feeling much better now, neyronrose.
Yes, I am. This week should be a much better week.
I had the day off today. I just hung out with the kids, and picked up pizza for dinner. My favorite kind of day. I’ve been spraying different perfumes all day, lol, but my original sotd was Alien. Sometimes I underappreciate it, because I get distracted by all the flankers.
Is the original your favorite?
And pizza with kids / fun!
I think it probably is. I really enjoy the Taste of Fragrance one in the fall, though, for it’s carmeley smell. My Alien unicorn one is the Saphir version, which was Alien and Orange. It was only out for one minute, and dumb me talked myself out of it. Maybe I will experiment and layer Orange Sanguine over the Alien body lotion!
Do it!!!
And then report back ?
Definitely! I can’t believe I just now thought of this! Lol
Woo hoo – sounds like a winner!
I’m always so tempted by the Alien flankers on FragranceNet. Glad you enjoyed your day off!
How did your Alien + Orange Sanguine experiment work out?
I’m going to try it tomorrow on my day off. Will report back!
Hmm, I have a bunch of oddball stuff, so not sure how to pick the most under-appreciated. Started the day off in a decant of Gallagher Fragrances Rosé All Daé. It says rose in the name but what I got was a whole lot of apple brandy. Wow. Too much apple and booze for me. I switched to L’Antichambre Ambre Chocolat for the evening.
? all Dae reads very very sweet on me. One of the Marzipans borrowed my Decants.
My vote for a scent that’s not appreciated enough is good old Calvin Klein Obsession, especially if you can find an older bottle. It is so spicy and delicious, with incense among the notes and almost a niche feel, like some from the early days of Serge Lutens. Just try it,
Vintage Obsession is amazing. When it was first released I bought a bottle immediately. Then three more ensued….all thunked years ago.
I remember how good that Obsession was when it first came out!
Back in the day, Obsession smelled wonderful on a friend of mine. Sadly, it never worked for me.
I can’t hear about Obsession without remembering the Saturday Night Live satire of the all white tv, ultra modern tv ad. The Saturday Night Live version was for OCD and featured a woman manically cleaning the spotless set.
Yes! It was called Compulsion, I think. Lol
Pure eVe…..sweet powdery almond.
I should give that a try. Sweet powdery almond is right up my alley.
Gosh, it’s difficult to single out one neglected perfume, but I’ll go with Hermes’ Un Jardin Apres La Mousson. I’ve noticed that it isn’t included in some of the Hermes sets of the Jardin fragrances, and I don’t seem to read or hear much about it. But it is a favorite of mine in hot weather, like what we are still having here (mid-90s! in September!).
It is my favourite Jardin, but then I adore melon in perfume.
Totally agree with you on Mousson. I think it’s a perfectly balanced perfume.
SOTD =
commando for now but will look for an underappreciated fragrance to wear later that is also church friendly!
Yesterday’s SOTD was SSS Bee’s Bliss as planned.

Thanks to everyone who left comments to my post. Yesterday was a beautiful day for my mom’s memorial gathering – sunny, bright and slightly crisp. We had a short gathering in the cemetery’s chapel / mausoleum, then a 5 minute walk to the wall of niches. My sister’s friend brought carnations for everyone which we then left at the base of the wall. I’m not sure I mentioned this but I found a picture of my mom in her iPad. It was very pixilated but nevertheless, the printed version just looked like it had a dreamy blur to it. The luncheon was also just perfect and I’m glad we went with this place as there was private event space (vs. what Olive Garden could offer). It was great to see everyone.
It was not without drama, from the funeral director, no less! He called in the morning to ask when we were having the inurnment and I said today and he said but you did not call me to confirm like you said you would and I said no, you said you were going to bring it Friday so it won’t matter what time the actual gathering started. He knew better than to argue with me and I’m glad my mom’s urn got to the cemetery with time to spare!
I’m glad everything went well yesterday. I really enjoy your IG picture’s.
Thank you, lillyjo! I didn’t think Inwould be able to keep up with postings but it turned out to be a great forum for sharing what I couldn’t adequately describe in words.
So sorry u had to deal with that stressful situation, but so glad it was a positive remembrance service for you’re mum..sending scented hugs you’re way.
Thank you, mayfly.
I’m glad the ceremony and luncheon went well. I was thinking of you. More *hugs* — Em
Thank you! It means a lot.
Glad the day went well yesterday. But sorry you had the added stress.
Thank you, Gail. The funeral home was local so there really was no issue but the fact that he didn’t follow through was irksome.
Glad to hear everything went fine. The day outside was indeed beautiful. Perfect to honor your mom!
Thank you, pfl67!
Hajusuuri, I had missed your posting about your mother’s death. I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Her memorial service sounds like a fitting tribute to a very important part of your family.
Thank you, ScentSpirit. It was exactly a month ago yesterday although having the memorial yesterday vs any other day had no mourning or ritual relevance. She sure picked a pleasant day for a send off by family and friends.
So glad to hear it went well in spite of the bit of drama.
That all sounds perfect, and I like the idea of the “found” pixellated picture.
I’m rather pleased to hear that the memorial service went well, despite that bump in the road with the funeral director. It was a beautiful day for it. Hugs.
L’Antichambre Ambre Chocolat was so good last night I’m having another round today.
Most underrated scent: Serge Lutens L’Eau. This sheer summer scent has sophisticated undertones of mint and magnolia. However, its appearance was a sharp departure from the line’s prior run of rich orientals. So L’eau was criticized for what is was not, rather than appreciated for what it was.
Yesterday my best was “best” match between perfume and dress. i wore a deep black velvet wrap dress with kimono sleeves, i.e., a dress in the shape of a robe. The perfume was the redundantly named “Black Perfecto, Le Petit Robe Noir” (i.e., perfectly black, little black dress.”
Ooh, sounds like a perfect pairing, the dress sounds gorgeous!
I love Leau and Leau Froide which is such a great summer incense.
Mitsouko edp for a beautiful sunny autumnal morning cleaning and sorting, followed by Azemour this afternoon for some printmaking followed by garden pottering.
Most neglected perfume: Liz Earle Botanical Essence no. 15, vanilla, Tonka, herbal, a little bit of rose and cinnamon, really beautiful. One of the first perfumes I bought as a fledgling perfumista, and still a favourite.
I did not get to try #15, but #1 was really well done.
I think u might like it Robin.
Mitsouko is a great choice for this time of year.
Yes!, it seems perfectly matched to the change in light and drop in temperature.
SOTM is Malle Iris Poudre, which (sadly) has gone unpleasantly fruity-sour on my skin this time. I’ve been trying to decide on another Malle to add to the library (I just have Eau de Magnolia at this point) and thought I liked IP based on a prior sample, but today it’s nearly a scrubber. The weather has turned autumnal all of a sudden here, so I think I’ll go scrub and switch to L’Eau d’Hiver.
Can’t for the life of me remember what I wore yesterday for haircut and chores, but it was laundry day and I spritzed our bed pillows very lightly with Tam Dao before putting the pillowcases back on (which was very nice, btw) and that apparently became my entire scent memory for the day. Not that that’s a bad thing.
On a different note, have any of you read any Robin Sloan? I’ve been re-reading Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, and bookbub just alerted me to another Sloan, called Sourdough. I’m a page and a half in and can already tell I’m going to enjoy it.
You have convinced me to go spray Tam Dao on the pillows 🙂
Yay! You won’t regret it. 🙂
I decided on Tom Ford Lost Cherry as underappreciated. It was kind of ironic that I spritzed some in before heading off to church but there you have it!
It is gourmand for sure but not cloyingly sweet (although I like sweet). Yes, it is expensive but that should not be a reason for underappreciating it. I got it at a discount when NM was having 20% off and I also got Cash Back through Rakuten.
Ha! Lost Cherry at church. Love it! I need to try that one considering I enjoy a lot of TFs.
? Wearing Lost Cherry to church! I should re-sniff that one.
I ordered a tiny sample of it, which should be coming soon. I sniffed it at Nordstroms and liked it, but I have lots of other things that are less expensive. I should make a commitment (again) to appreciate what I have, and appreciate inexpensive perfumes, some of which have very pleasant scents. 🙂
I’ll have a few full bottles to confess to Donatella about in October. And we’ve got a few weeks of September yet! Uh-oh! It’s a good thing I’m not confessing about samples, because I have about three jillion now. lol
But I’m glad you’re enjoying it. 🙂
Left New Mexico today. Sad to go but looking forward to new adventures. I thunked my decant of Osmanthus Interdite yesterday. I ended up loving that one more than I expected. I’d be happy if a bottle fell in my lap haha. Today I thunked the last few drops from a Shalimar pdt splash mini. I love this version and was sad it was gone as well!
A perfume that doesn’t get much love that I actually adore is Bobbi Brown Beach haha- it’s the beach from my teenage years in a bottle. 🙂
Shalimar, yum! I just love it. You are smelling fabulous!
I also have a bottle of BB Beach. Have you tried CB I Hate Perfume’s At The Beach 1966? It’s that old school Coppertone vibe! Both are fun fragrances.
Yes, I don’t have a bottle of that one but I did have a sample I loved! I’m a sucker for beach perfumes in summer (or in winter when I’m missing warm weather)!
You have a great attitude about moving! I wish you the best of luck?
Best of luck with your move and adjustment to life in California!
I’ve enjoyed a couple of beautiful late summer days this weekend. Mr. Jalapeno arrived home safe from FL this afternoon. He said that I-95 was fine all the way.
Underrated perfumes IMO are Guerlain Samsara, Calvin Klein Truth, and the Prescriptives version of Calyx. I have all three of these, and should wear them more often.
SOTD(Weekend) = TF Orchid Soleil EdP. Today I added some dust bunnies to it, since I had to clean behind the couch. One of the cats had thrown up there. Sigh.
I totally agree about Samsara. In fact, I wore it today as one of my neglected fumes. It was great for battling the Costco crowds.
Samsara was the first Guerlain that I “clicked” with.
Unfortunately, I can’t wear Samsara, but I love Truth and I also neglected it this summer. Glad to hear Mr. Jalapeno arrived home safe!
Thanks, pl67! I know that you and sandalwood aren’t the best of friends.
Glad you got a chance to enjoy the nicer weather. 🙂 We had our windows open much of the weekend to get the fresh air. And I’m glad Mr. Jalapeno made it home all right.
Sotd is Isabey Fleur Nocturne. And because I couldn’t really think of anything for the poll, I’ll nominate this lovely white floral. It’s starts out as a BWF but soon settles down. It’s gorgeous!
Scents of the day: several kinds of incense perfume while Mom was conveniently out of the house, plus two or three other samples. (Not all at once.) lol
It sounds like you were still reeking havoc in the best way. Holly would be proud! ?
Sometimes with my family, when we’re giving a book as a present, we’ll say, “I had to read it first to see if it was appropriate.” lol. I’ll think of it as needing to make sure the samples were still good.
