Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Patchouli 1969 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2019 7 Comments

French niche line Maître Parfumeur et Gantier has launched Patchouli 1969, a new fragrance.

Maître Parfumeur et Gantier’s Patchouli 1969: a creation with a “hippie chic” spirit.

The freshness and vivaciousness of this blend refer to the spirit of the hippie movement. Newness of ideas, colours and exuberance of Flower Power can be found in this composition. A fresh and sparkling perfume, that builds on its identity.

The name ''Patchouli 1969'' refers to the Woodstock festival, musical highlight of the Hippie era that took place in Bethel (USA) in August of 1969.

True to the hippies’ favourite fragrance, the accord is built for and around the patchouli flower. From the head notes, the scent of patchouli mixed with cardamom makes for a fresh and bright start.

The elegant heart of the perfume blends this beautiful Indonesian flower with a floral bouquet of jasmine, rose and lotus flower. The base notes are Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier’s signature blend of sandalwood and musk, accompanied by rich vanilla.

Additional notes include petitgrain bigarade and elemi.

Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Patchouli 1969 is available in 120 ml Eau de Parfum.

Not breaking new ground. Next up will be a jazz-themed scent called Blues with notes of iris, whiskey, cognac, leather, and a hint of cigarette.

Maybe lovely of course. I like patchouli, the dirtier the better…

MPG has never seemed to really get back on their feet, it’s too bad.

I will stick with Christopher Street and my own memories.
The packaging is pretty, looks Pucci like.

I like the box too. Time for MPG to get a new bottle though.

Love the packaging, wish they had distribution in the US.

Yes, very pretty paisley packaging. I agree with cazaubon and apsara there.

Perhaps something was lost in translation, but I thought the scent of patchouli came from the leaves?

I hadn’t been born yet in 1969, but I remember that the fashions of the 1960s came around again in the 1980s or 1990s.

Yes, the flowers are very fragrant but small and unobtrusive, and patchouli oil is typically extracted by steam distillation of the leaves.
